GREAT TEACHER funny too, and you have fun learning!
He's a great teacher and I learned a lot from him!!!!
great professor! interesting class!
EXCELLENT TEACHER! Lectures are interesting; tests are appropriate.

only 3 tests and 1 long paper. class is interesting and he is a nice guy. i would recommend him.
Awesome professor, makes lecture interesting and relates to everyday life. definitly recommend.
Awesome teacher. He almost made me want to change my major to Soc.!!!!!!! Makes time for his students and his lectures and assignments changes the way you look at the world.
Hes a really great teacher. You only have 3 tests, and one paper. The book you need to read for the paper is pretty intresting too. If you need to take sociology, get him as a teacher!
Enjoy the class. I've learned alot thus far. He's given me a different perspective of looking at society.
Great teacher and interesting person...straight lecture but very informative and really makes you think about the world we live in
good teach... enthusiatic with material... cool class... make sure to show up for class or to get notes if you miss thou... tests are pretty easy
pappas is a very interesting teacher. it is unbelievable how passionate he is about the material he presents in class. his format is usually preet easy too. just three tests. and to do good on the tests you have to show you read the books.
Excellent proffessor. Interesting lectures and course material. Tests arent to bad and the paper you have to write on a book called Slim's Table is a lot easier than it seems. Highly reccomend this guy.
he came to teach our class when our teacher was sick, for only two days. i wished he could stay he is very clear, fun, gets the class to really think about the lesson. A+++
pappas is cool. if you want to see someone who is passionate about his subject then take it. he is biased though. (oh, and wait see his defintions on morality and truth.) i like him, but he doesn't know what the hell is talking about morality and truth.
He talks and you listen, he has the most interesting style i've seen. It is very easy to fall asleep in his class, but try not to-tests are straight from lectures. oh and somehow he remembers your name just from hearing it once!! So be careful
His tests are right from his lectures, and they are multiple choice, true false, and one essay. He tells you what the essay will be too. He's very passionate, but very nice. Theres never homework, but one big paper. 3 Tests, 1 paper, each 25% of ur gr
His class was very easy and interesting. As long as you take notes and listen in class, you will do fine on his tests. His tests are easy; you can write anything you that relates to the topic of the essay. His facial expressions are great!
You won't be bored in this man's class!...he is a cool guy!!! I thought his class was a bit challenging, but i had him for a 400 level theory course.
STUDY FOR THE FIRST TEST. Only 3 tests + 1 paper, every point in that class counts, not much room for error. Tests are somewhat hard, but the class overall is pretty easy, and is a great professor.
Great teacher, study for the exams and do the readings! Paper is easy. Not the easiest class, but he's a really good teacher who truely cares and is always in a good mood and open to questions.
do readings and study notes and tests are a breeze...readings are so interesting you wont believe you are doing school work...the class in general is great and pappas is so interesting...gives you a new outlook on life and makes you think
Yes, his style of clothing is eccentric, but he is a good lecturer and a very interesting professor. Keep up on your notes-tests come straight from them. Try to ask questions in class as well, or else it may seem as if he is taking at you and not to you.
He is very passionate about sociology making lectures very intresting and he makes note taking easy to follow even early in the morning. Tests are pretty easy if you review and do the readings. There are three tests and one paper so make sure to study.
Good guy, genuienly loves what he does. Always willing to help for any problem, subject related or not. Class was a little dry, but wasn't his fault b/c it was 101. But make sure to TAKE THOSE NOTES!!!
This guy knows his stuff in a very complex field, be willing to do the work and earn the grade, but class is very fun.
strangely tan and amazing pecs. also looks likes robert redford/dinosaur combined.
This is one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. Even if you have no interest in sociology take this class. He's very passionate and kept my attention even though it was in the morning. Study for the tests. Great guy. You will remember this class.
very good prof. interesting tests are true false, mult choice and essay that he gives you. read the book for the report ahead of time. SO CUTE!!
full of bull...... only his ideas are right and everyone's problems are because of society Do not take if you have any individuality or beliefs
He is the best, and his test are straigt foward, just listen to the lecture and read, i love him cuz he is so easy and very very clear.
he knows what he is talking about, can explain it well and is very helpful. he wants you to do good and will work with u if u have any q's. material is easy if you come to class, just really have to study it. tests are pretty easy; mc, t/f and essay. he also presents material in interesting way.
Best class I ever took here at Salisbury! Dr.Pappas totally knows what he is talking about in this social interaction class and is the most passionate professor I have ever had, aside from maybe Dr.Dunn. He is extremely intelligent and I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone and everyone!
This class is not that easy but he presents the material in a very clear manner. I would take him again and again! He is always willing to help and really wants his students to do well. tests are essays and he give partial credit for most everthing .He's adorable too!
AWESOME! i only took this class as a gen ed requirement, but totally loved it! Pappas made me want to change my major! he is so knowledgeable and makes class interesting by relating it to his life in a way we can understand. 2 tests and the final (non-cummulative). tests are easy- essay section but he tells u the essay ahead of time. take him!
take good notes, do the readings, all essay tests, I never got much from his lectures (at least not enough to do well on the tests)
Dr. Pappas is really interesting and actually cares about his students. If you need help, just ask and he's more than willing to explain things in a way that you understand.
I love his class! :) So interesting.. he's soo passionate about his material...
he was an excellent professor. i loved going to his class since he made it so interesting. if you take good notes and read you will do well on his tests! and if you need help he is more than willing to help anyone. take him :)
Class was not that hard, only 3 tests and a paper. He was always willing to help you out. if you study and do the readings you can get an A.
If you don't go to class your going to miss a lot since he doesn't use a text. Lots of reading for a paper and your tests. Grade based on 3 tests and a paper.
He's amazing. He is so dedicated to his topic and it makes it so much fun. Take 201 with Pappas, Social Problems, it's worth it. I mean this is my first Sociology class and I am in love with it. He isn't the easiest teacher, he expects a lot, but he's easy to talk too.
I can't believe everyone's comments about Pappas leave out the fact that he is a hardcore communist. 101 is basically just preaching and very little actual teaching. Not a hard class though.
great guy! fun class! he's passionate about what he does which makes the class enjoyable! 3 exams-which you MUST prepare for, they're not impossible but you must study and then there's one paper due at the end...taking a few classes qwith him and highly reccomend him!
The 1st class I HAD EVER WITHDREW from & this is my 3rd yr in college!! Worst teacher ever...I need structure and he does not give it he just lectures and gives no notes what so ever just talks! He gave 5 readings(PER TEST) that were so long and had 2 ?'s per reading so its hard to kno what to remember! IDK just didnt work 4 me!
He is a really nice guy, but just kind of weird. He is all over the place with his teaching style. If you are like me, and you need an A+B=C approach, this teacher is not for you. He tries to help and has no problem seeing you after school, but be careful because he tends to confuse you more than help you
ABSOLUTELY NO STRUCTURE. He really just likes to hear himself talk. His lectures are all over the place, I know more about his life story then the actual class. He assigned two textbooks for us to read and write a paper on, and has never mentioned those textbooks again...guess we are on our own. He is a nice guys and likes what he does...
aweful teacher...goes off topic too much...political most the time and is weird...you dont get any facts in the class his test are hard!! even if you study they are hard... he makes you read the sections from the book but only uses the book for 5 questions on the test...only 2 midterms 1 final and term paper....not a good teacher
I don't agree with all the comments about no structure in classes and how you don't learn. I've taken Pappas for a lot of classes and he is my favorite. He gives lists and clear definitions in lectures. You have to work hard, read everything, but can pass his tests. Very interesting, helpful, passionate, and by far best professor there.
Pappas is a trip and a half...I found his lectures compelling, and on a personal note he is very kind and helpful. I turned out the best essay I have ever written for his first Theory II exam, and I learned a lot. He's hot in an aging surfer kinda way.
A decent amount of reading from assigned books but you don't have to have it done until the day of the test which gives you weeks. keeps it interesting. Great Style!
can a professor get any more liberal than pappas??? the man is hilarious he doesnt care what others think and he lets it be known he always goes off on a tangent which can get boring but if you to him he will pretty much guide you to what will be on the exams. hes nice to look at it buts hes really nice
Ok so here's the deal...Pappas is great. He's very unique but I think its hysterical. Everyone on here who complains just didn't want to put in the effort or can't adjust to a class structure thats not exactly what they're used to. To be successful you just have to show up in lecture and take notes (easy b/c he repeats everyhting you need know)
Had him for a few classes. he is the best professer at the SU soc department. Must go to class because the notes are key. but he always tells you what to write. very liberal. he's the man. he's got some crazy stories too.
His exams are really easy, and he keeps you entertained in the lectures for the most part. He says attendance is mandatory, but not really because I probably missed 8 classes and still passed. He's a nice guy, very liberal though. Only like 3 short exams and 1 3-part paper due at the end.
Great, Organized, Clear teacher! You know what he expects from you the very first day of class. If you take good notes, he goes over the material by date and tells you what will be on each test. Tests are pretty easy and only one paper required that's divided into three different parts. He's nice, seems like he loves teaching; take him!
He was a great professor! I really don't like the subject, but he made the class interesting. He's a fair grader, you just have to make sure you do the work and go to class.
He is a very good professor. All he does is lecture for the whole 50 minutes but as long as you take notes you will do fine. Make sure you study your notes and write everything he says down. Go to his office hours for clarity and help. He loves his job and makes the class interesting with his stories. I definitely recommend him.
He talks the whole 50 mins. Take notes information he speaks about will be asked about on test. 3 test, 1 12pg paper about a book due at the end of the semester. Start early. He doesn't take off points for not attending but you will get brownie points if you come to class. Info he talks about is interesting. Class goes by fast. Good teacher.
Professor Pappas is a great teacher. Assigns readings in the beginning and a 12 page essay due at the end of the semester. As long as you do the readings before each exam and study your notes, you'll be fine. He wants you to come to him and get help. Very passionate about this class.
Pappas is a FANTASTIC teacher. Favorite professor at SU so far. He is very liberal, but hilarious. Great sense of humor. Decent amount of reading for every test. 2 exams and a final. One 12-page term paper but he breaks it down for you on the first day of class, it really wasn't hard at all. The tests are T/F, MC, and an essay each. Take him!!
Dr. Pappas is great! He is so passionate about what he does and it makes time fly by. He has no problem going off topic if you have a question and offers the best advice. Go to his office hours, you'll score major brownie points! Tests are easy and the 12pg paper is a breeze as long as you go to class. I love him!
Wonderful professor. I didn't do so hot on the first exam but he doesn't judge you by grades. I went to him for the next two tests and got an A on both. He really loves to get to know his students and wants everybody to succeed. Go to his office hours!!!
Very cool teacher. His lectures are long but very concise and to the point, he gives you the info you need for tests. There are 3 big exams and one large paper with the same format. Pay attention and take notes and you will do just fine.
Dr. Pappas is an amazing teacher. I love how passionate he is about the topics he lectures on. As long as you read and take notes during lecture you'll do fine! He always encourages his students to come for help during his office hours too.
Pappas is a great teacher and very enthusiastic about his subject. You need to go to class in order to understand the information and get the lectures, make sure to take notes on everything he says. Reading is required that sometimes can be very liberal. He is there and encourages you go to his office hours. Recommended!
Dr. Pappas is a really good professor. There are 3 tests and a 9-12 page paper due at the end of the semester. If you read the assigned readings that he gives you and study then you will do fine in the class. He lectures during the entire class and you take notes. He is available during his office hours if you need help.
Pappas was easy, fun, and interesting.. VERY PASSIONATE!! You only have 3 tests, and a 12 pg paper.. please, whatever you do. do NOT procrastinate. Get the paper out of the way, its on code of the street and read it asap. If you ask for help he helps you.. brownie points for attending class, not mandatory but he wont fail you if you attend class.
Great professor, lectures can get kind of long though. Tests are not terribly hard, but it's hard to study for them with the way he lectures. Love taking classes with Dr. Pappas he loves teaching & his students, also YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING IN HIS CLASS
Pappas is a really cool guy! His lectures are interesting and it really opened my eyes to the world, even if it can be a little difficult to care at 8 am. Its definitely not a class you can slack off in, reading is a must! I would probably take another class if he offered it, he really knows his stuff even if he's a little different!
We had one long paper which i think was 15 pages I wrote. His exams are kind of difficult, they are worded tough. He's a great lecturer and a nice guy! I recommend him.
Loved him! He talks fast during lecture but always went over things to make sure you had them down for the test. had one paper to do but wasn't bad. Super nice & I'm taking him again next semester!
He won't grade your exam if you don't show up! There's a 12 page paper, and you have to read exerps from the text for exams, easy tests if you read! He's a sweetheart who cares about everyone and tells you " you're important" every day! He really motivates you! Like don't take any other teacher!!! Keep in mind it's hard to focus at 8 am!
Great teacher and very informative.
All you need to do to pass the exams is read the textbook readings he assigns like twice and go over lecture notes. Make sure to pay attention in class. He's a pretty cool guy and cares about you. The 12 page paper isn't as bad as it sounds.
He's a really nice guy!! His class was interesting however the lectures did kind of drag because he is typically the only one who talks (not a discussion based class). His exams are easy but only if you read the materials he has assigned. He definitely shows he wants the best for you and will ask you to see him if he feels like something is up!
For a gen ed class, the amount of reading assigned is ridiculous! There is definitely an easier Sociology 101 professor to take than Pappas! He is a super nice guy, but the readings he assigns are unnecessary.
Definitely not a hard class, but you still have to put in some effort. There was a fair bit of writing in this course, usually short essays. Sometimes writing assignments were a few pages long, but not usually. Professor Pappas loves to use multiple learning styles to teach his class. He had guest speakers visit on a couple of occasions.
I would totally recommend Dr. Pappas. He made lectures fun and he was very caring. If you attend class and read the assigned text you will pass this class easily. He reviewed for the exams the class before so we knew what to focus on when we were studying.
Rants a lot in lecture and makes it hard to know exactly what to study for exams. There are 3 exams and a term paper so not a lot of room to mess up with grades. He's very caring and will help if you need it.
Laid back, easy going guy, approachable. You have 3 tests and a paper. The tests are ok. You have to read the assigned readings and study to pass. The last class before the exam he'll go over what's on the exam and encourages you to come in to talk about it more. His handwriting isn't the best but he makes sure you understand what it reads.
I love Pappas, he wants everyone to do well and be interested in what he is talking. The test are exactly what he says they are. He constantly tells jokes (which aren't funny) but he'll say stuff and not mean it to be funny but will have you falling out of your chair laughing. Does take some warming up to.
Really amazing guy! For me, the lectures were very interesting! You should go to the classes though because the exams are primarily based on the lectures. If you are unsure of anything, he will definitely help you out! There is only one paper done for the class, and he will review it and he gives overall good feedback. One of the best profs.
Prof is a GREAT guy with a structured class. The BIGGEST thing if you want to succeed is go to class!!! Almost half of the exam is lecture stuff so if you don't go to class you won't do well. Also take detailed notes and turn them into flashcard questions.
I had Pappas for social problems (socio201). Probably my favorite course i have taken at this university so far. He strictly lectures but is very knowledgable about the topics he teaches. This class was very informative and interesting. There are only 3 exams and one term paper as your grades so you have to study and attend classes.
This is an awesome class with an awesome man. Only thing that sucks is the 15 page paper due at the end of the semester. His exams aren't that tough but def study for them. His lectures are so interesting, he makes you want to come to class.. Not an easy A but a very cool class with a great professor.
he lectures the whole entire time and talks really fast. you for sure have to read and study hard. only 3 tests and 1 paper go into your grade.
Dr. Pappas is very passionate about class material, so sometimes he gets off on tangents, but overall a great professor. Your only grades are three tests and a paper (based off of a book you must read) but the tests aren't hard if you go to class, and you can get him to look over your paper before you turn it in.
At first I loved Professor Pappas. His lectures stay interesting for the most part. He was kind and straight forward up until he told me I would receive an A, and then proceeded to give me a B- with no explanation. He stopped responding to my emails and would not discuss MY grade with me. Because of this, I can no longer recommend or respect him.
Allan Pappas just might be the worst professor I've ever had. Please take someone else. Does not give good feedback, and does not care about his students.
Not a hard class at all but still some work to be done. There are 3 tests and there's 1 essay and that's what you're graded on. The only homework you really receive is readings to complete for the exams. Professor Pappas is really interesting to listen to and an overall nice person. He is always responsive to emails in my experience. I'd recommend!
Pappas is very knowledged in sociology. His lectures, if attentively listened to, will give you a strong, well rounded background in sociology. That isn't the issue with him. He has four grades; 3 exams and 1 final paper. He posts nothing on MyClasses, and wasn't responsive to my emails. Nearly impossible to reach him virtually. don't procrastinate
3 exams each worth 25% and one 9 pg term paper but it's super easy if you pay attention in class and take good notes. He always reviews before an exam and basically tells you what kind of questions he will ask and what will be on it based on the readings so it makes it much easier studying for the exams. He is nice and not a hard class just pay att
Professor Pappas is a really nice guy and he'll help you if you email him, but his lectures can be pretty mundane. Your grade consists of just 3 exams and one paper, and the exams are based off readings he gives you but also on his lectures, so take very precise notes because it's word for word.
Worst professor ever. Was missing class bc I had health issues AND doctors notes. Emailed him numerous times and rarely got a response. Finally met him in office hours hoping for guidance and he told me I need to find the notes myself and think about withdrawing from the class. DO NOT TAKE!
He was extremely engaging and made the lecture heavy class interesting. The grading style consisted of 3 exams and an essay about a book. Each exam is based on in-class lectures and reading assignments. The review session before the exam often gives hints and answers about the test material. Show up to class unless you absolutely can not go.
Great teacher, 3 exams, 1 paper, each worth 25%, cant mess up, each exam covers a section, nothing is cumulative, 3rd exam is given as final. Class is the same every day, you take notes and he lectures but hes passionate and enthusiastic so its not bad. Speaks to you as equal, not a student, enjoyed his class, he reviews before each exam, easy.
Im not good with the whole lecture and taking notes and everything. When I tell you, you have to make sure you write what he says in order to get a good grade you have to! There is 3 exams including the final and one paper on a book very easy but the exams are no joke you have to read about the context in order to revive a good grade!
Good professor, but doesn't use PowerPoints. He just talks about what we need to know and occasionally writes on the write board, but it's supper sloppy and you can't read it. You really need to write down everything he says in class and read the readings he gives over and over.
For the entire semester we only have 4 grades so each item is worth 25% of your grade. In all of the classes he lectures at you the entire time (doesn't really get any questions). He will occasionally write or draw things on the write board but his handwriting is pretty much ineligible so you can't really read what he wrote.
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT NOTE TAKING. Dr. Pappas is an amazing lecturer who does not use powerpoint or even myclasses. He gives you everything you will need to know and does a review day prior to the exam. The course is made up of 3 exams and 1 essay (9-12 pages, but it is easy (START EARLY)). No homework assignments to keep grade up.
Dr. Pappas is my favorite professor I have taken and I am a senior so I have taken a lot. I was so excited to go to this class everyday. The class is purely traditional lecture: no powerpoints, just talking. He stands at the front and talks for 50 minutes. I thought it would be boring, but it wasn't. It was so interesting. Tests are very easy.
Dr. Pappas teaches in a way that works so well for me. His lectures seem to go off on tangents but when he ties it all together it makes it so much better for remembering. The stories he tells tie into the vocab words and allow you to clearly see the picture. His tests are super easy if you read the assigned readings and take good notes in class.
My favorite professor at SU! He literally tells you questions that will be on the test exactly. He has review days where he tells you what exactly from lecture you will be tested on. With the readings he tells you what you need to know for the test and essay. As long as you come to class, take notes, and study you can get an A easily.
Very interesting and cares about students. Glad to help you understand and go over material out side of class. Makes lectures interesting. Not tech savvy so nothing on my classes really. Available by email all the time.
Great teacher! Lectures for 50 minutes with no PowerPoints. Will write important info on the board or specifically say ok write this down. On review days he gives you specific things from lectures he will test on. He tries to remain unbiased and if you come to him with a problem or issue he does his best to fix it.
Dr. Pappas is awesome! He's very engaging and obviously cares about the topics he's speaking about. He will literally tell you "you might want to write this down" before explaining important topics present on the exam. His handwriting is messy when he makes points on the board but he'll always say it verbally too. Sweet guy, doesn't mess with tech.
Dr. Pappas has some pretty great lectures and the material is fairly easy. However, the only grades he put in were 3 exam grades and 1 paper grade so if you're not a strong test taker or writer this may not be the course for you. Do not expect to be able to find your grade in my classes either (he only uses email). Sweet guy though.
He only goes off his notes so he does not use PowerPoint and lectures are hard to follow. When I was having trouble in class and went to his office hours he would not let me talk or explain or ask questions. He was interruptive and was degrading because I was failing the class. He gave the impression that he does not care, and is very rude. Avoid
Pappas was a really great lecturer. I was never bored in the class and always walked away having learned something new. I defiently looked at the world differently after taking his class, so I would definetley recommend it to anyone. There are only four assignments but in the gradebook, but his grading criteria is very clear and easy to follow.
As long as you study and go to class you're good. Gives answers on exams in classes.
Prof. Pappas runs an engaging class with clear expectations. While note-taking is key, he provides helpful exam prep. The workload is manageable, and Unstuck AI proved useful for study prep alongside the textbook. Overall, a solid class if you stay on top of the material.
