She forces students to read in front of the class and become comfortable and confident in their writing. As far as playing favorites, students can easily point fingers at professors who issue bad grades. Attend the class, do your work on time,no worries

Great class, great teacher. The reading was interesting and so were the assignments. Gives out extra credit assignments and grades fairly.

Alegra is a nice person. Sometimes she may seem...out of it, but its all good. If she gives you the oppurtunity to let her read your essay before you hand it in, DO IT!! I did it and got an A. She's got strict rules, but be nice to her, you'll be fine.

She brought about a different view of english, focused more on philosophy and world problems than grammar and puncuation. I liked her, but she is not easy

She is so much fun! I wish I had her for other classes. She is the most fun instructor in the English department. It is obvious that she cares for other students, and she shows lots of respect towards students.

I thought that this class was easy if you show up for the discussion then you are set. I believe that she was very helpful and seemed to be genuinely interested in what you had to say. I liked it.

She is a teacher some will love and others won't. The discussions about the reading were great. She can be a difficult grader for those who do not have a good background in writing. key for papers is good research and plenty of info to back up your point

She may grade hard, but thats only because she wants you to improve in your writing. Take her classes, she has a wonderful sense of humor and loves hockey! The assignments she keeps interesting and her advice she writes is only to help you improve.

SHe makes you want ot come to class, and that is a very odd occurrance. She is intelligent and fun at the same time.

One of the best instructors I had! She really squeezed the creative juices out of me. I had so much fun in her Creative Writing Class. Her class got me hooked on writing poetry because she helped me realize I could write well.

really awesome teacher. she speaks to you as equals and not like she's better than you. i took a creative writing class at MID and didn't learn anything compared to this class!! sometimes forgetful about doing things, but still a cool lady.

At least you can tell she loves what she does. You won't come away from the class a genius, but you'll learn that having your own writing style will benefit you in the long run. She'll give you some confidence after the semester.

Great Prof! Very helpful and she doesn't act superior! Loves what she does and wants students to succeed! Not too many assignments in either class! Moderate reading but its interesting! Both great classes and an extrodianary Prof!!

Took this class last semester. Very good and interesting teacher. She prefers student involvement and values opinions. She does miss class due to chronic illnesses however, but you always know what to read because she utilizes blackboard very often.

Allegra was a cool professor! The first and second paper along with the group projects were a breeze but that last paper brought me down a half of grade so start on that right away!!!

Allegra is great...One of the best profs CMU has. Everyone who says she grades hard, obviously didn't apply themselves. She gives you the grade you deserve. Very helpful, a truly great person. You would be lucky yo have a class with Allegra Blake. I only wish she taught some more of the English classes that I need to take. Great person, great prof!

I loved this prof! She has to be one of the smartest people I know and she loves to share her knowledge in a way that is interesting to her class. As long as you put in the effort, she rewards you with the grade. Our group had the hardest part compared to the other groups and she took that into consideration when giving us our grade.

She is very smart. She gets a little upset if the class is uninformed about current events, but other than that she is really nice. She is very intense and wants to draw students into the class. See her outside of class if you need any extra help! You will get a grade based on how hard you worked.

She is usually nice, and helpful, but a VERY HARD grader.... don't listen to what anyone else says. I have about a 3.9, and she is VERY HARD to get an A from. She is nice and helpful, but don't get her started on politics, and make sure to "agree" with her liberal views.

She is an amazing professor, probably one of the best here. She actually cares about students and she really enjoys what she does, which isn't something you see often. She pushes everyone in her class to do well, so if you don't like to make an effort her classes aren't for you.

Professor Blake is the best English teacher I've ever had. Her class was easy going, very interesting, and WAY easier than my ENG 101 class. The best part is, no 6 to 8 page papers that you have to end up typing junk work on the last 4 pages.

Dr. Blake is a very nice professor. She has Lupus so some days she's off but that doesn't keep her from teaching. She actually invited us all to her house for hot co-coa! She grades our assignments very thoroughly and gives us tips on how to write better. She's a great, understanding, and nice professor. Take her class and you won't regret it.

BEST ENG PROF! She is so nice and always available for help. I highly recommend her. I got good grades, but i love writing. I dont think she hands out As but def not extremely difficult. Great class! p.s. make sure you do her assigned weekly readings, they arent too bad and they really help with the in class writings and other essays as well!

Amazing teacher, this is my second time taking English 101 and i wish i had her as my teacher the first time. When she assigns papers she gives you topics to choose from which is really helpful. She has you read books and the course pack is honestly sitting in my dorm room still wrapped in plastic so i doubt you really need to buy one.

I learned a lot in this class, I feel very prepared for 201. Gave a lot of different topics to write our papers on; assigned books to read that were actually interesting. She is extremely helpful; I would recommend taking her for 101 or 201.

Easy papers, dwells on the topic of Iraq alittle too much. She assigns books to be read on your own time, but they're not required. If you borrow a copy from a classmate to glace over your fine.

Very understanding professor and willing to help you. Assignments at first don't appear challenging, but can be if you want an "O". Ended up with one "U" in the whole class, everything else was an "O" expect for a few assignments. Ended up with an A-, very enjoyable class, very personable professor, recommended!

The class is very easy if you read the pages she tells you to by the date they're due. If you do this and go to class frequently (note taking not necessary) you won't have a problem. She's a laid back, inspiring, caring person in class and in her office. **Use your best writing skills! This is a great class.

I love Allegra. She is by far one of the smartest and most interesting people I know. She takes time in class to really explain the material. She also gives you so much time to work on assignments it's almost impossible to not do a good job. This is my second time taking her right now and it wont be my last; and I'm not even an English major!

Allegra is one of the best professor's at cmu. Shes super smart, funny, and cares about her students so much. Sh goes above and beyond to help and do anything she can to help you become a better writer. She's a great professor and I wish there were more at cmu just like her!

Allegra is very nice. Make sure you follow directions on every single paper, because if you don't you will get marked down drastically. She is a tough grader, so if you are struggling with your papers go to her office hours because she is very helpful. Class itself is kinda boring, and you basically get nothing done. But overall Allegra is a joy

Allegra was a great teacher! Her class was one of my favorites! She grades a little difficult, but nothing drastic. Had fun in her class and would take her again if I could! You do need the books.

This class was pretty easy for an English class. Allegra is really nice and is more than willing to help you with your papers. It helps to do the readings, both for in-class discussion and the papers you'll end up writing. As long as you follow her directions and meet the page requirements, you should get a good grade.

Allegra can be annoying but overall is a good teacher. If you are having problems with an assignment tell her and she will usually push back the due date and help you out with it. She is very understanding and just wants you to pass.

Super fun class--Blake is a great teacher and really helps you understand the literature. Take this, especially if you're a freshman, because she helps you build a foundation for later English/Literature-based classes. Seriously--amazing class, not to mention she's a really sweet person.

She's a sweetheart. You read really cool essays and you use a great textbook. In class discussions are very interesting. If you come to class, do the work, and are decent at writing it's an easy A.

Blake was a fairly easy grader but she assigned very difficult essays. Many essays were difficult to write but she always gave me a good grade on them even when I thought I did poorly.

I never rate my professors but she is deserving of it. She's cool as hell and she is very intelligent. Her class is fairly easy and she gives out extra credit opportunities. If you have the chance, take her class.

Professor Blake is one of a kind! She's an amazingly smart teacher who truly cares about her students. She grades fairly well and the assignments aren't hard.Overall you MUST take this class with Professor Blake! You will learn a thing or two and I guarantee you will actually enjoy her class :)

She is a sweetheart. I like that she uses blackboard for everything. She talks a lot but it's interesting things. You learn a lot about her because she likes to share stuff about herself. I'm taking her for eng 201 as well.

This class can be tough, so make sure you actually read the books. She claims spark notes makes mistakes and she knows when people used it instead of reading the books. She's a very sweet lady and is always open to help you. There are 6 quizzes (one on each bookplaypoem), one paper (which is great for a WI), a group presentation, & a final exam.

Extremely nice professor but was sick many times throughout the semester due to some disease she has. All quizzes and tests are in essay form but not hard. Never knew what grade I had in her class because she refused to use blackboard. Overall, not a hard class and I would take her again. Probably one of the easier WI's offered at Central.

Professor Blake is an amazing individual. I would recommend anyone who is serious about writing or studying literature to take a class with her. The class came easy to me being an English major, but some people in my class said otherwise. Nonetheless she is the nicest, most caring, and most approachable person I have ever met at this school.
