Overall a good teacher. He's actually a pretty good looking guy, really nice. Answers any questions you have. I recommend for anyone taking this class!
a great teacher. he is explains EVERYTHING in complete detail. I would recommend him to anyone.
Ok, so I didn't take him in college, but he taught me the equivalent of MTHSC 208 in high school. One of the best teachers I ever had, thoroughly explains everything and makes sure you know it. Get him if you can
Mr. Guest os a great teacher for 106. He tends to teach what he knows will be on the tests and he is ALWAYS open for questions / help outside of class. He is a super nice guy and I would get to know him. He gives weekly quizzes which actually help, and he gives opportunities for small ammounts of extra credit. Take Mr. Guest for 106.
He explains everything in detail. If you need help, he'll give it to you. 206 is a difficult course, but he makes it a lot easier. You will use Maple for some homework, but never for exams. Get him if you can!
great teacher, explains everythng in detail. HW is optional and the HW that isnt optional is an easy grade booster. Very fair grader, def. take for 206
This man is an awesome professor! The material in 206 is difficult, but he goes over it well and tends to offer extra credit assignments from test corrections to Maple projects. If you ever need help, he is always willing to assist students. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Even with the new style of the class, which limits the amount of lecture time each day, he provides students with excellent instruction. He is very helpful during daily activities and wants the students to understand the material. Great teacher so far. Also speaks english, which is more than can be said about a few other math professors.
Very good professor. He is very helpful and teaches very well. He teaches what will be on the tests. He also only checks homework once a week. Overall, a great professor for Math 106.
Prof. Guest is extremely well at what he does. He explains things and is paitient with everyone! I would not suggest anyone else!!!
Excellent Teacher! What more can I say? Take him!!!
Great teacer, highly reccommended. Tests are exactly what you'd expect, no tricks. A page of notes and calculator is allowed on tests. He gives a bonus assignment after each test. In class assignments and homeworks can be done in groups.
He is very helpful.
Mr. Guest is a great teacher, he is not very difficult but gives you enough work for you to the learn the subject. His personality is also pretty funny and he is a nice guy.
Good understanding, keep up with homework and you should be ok.
Great teacher, Gives you at least one group quiz a week, but will tell you if you got the right answer or not. Tests are never tricky and you are allowed one sheet of notes and a calculator on the test. Easy A
GREAT TEACHER! I am not very good with calculus (just barely got a B in 106) so I was dreading this class. But he really wants you to understand and tries to get you really prepared for the exams. Really nice too.
Good teacher,106 is hard, but he is american and he gets right to the point
Wants his students to succeed in class. Tough class but trys to explain everything so that it is clear to students.
Im pretty sure hes the only math teacher who can teach. Guest is terrific hes quirky but nice and does what hes supposed to and goes the extra mile when he needs to help someone. I hate calc but Guest made it much more tolerable for me. If you actually want to learn math register for him quick his class always fills fast (wonder why)
Easy class! Attendance is mandatory because he gives graded class work 2x/wk. Easy tests, and they are straight forward. Only caution is that he is extremely lazy, but overall he is 100 times better than other math professors. Take him!!! Easy A!!!
Easy class! Attendance is mandatory because he gives graded class work 2x/wk. Easy tests, and they are straight forward. Only caution is that he is extremely lazy, but overall he is 100 times better than other math professors. Take him!!! Easy A!!!
I would definitely recommend taking Mr. Guest. He's an excellent teacher and while sometimes he is hard to get ahold of outside of class, he explains stuff really well so it doesn't matter. Our class was able to use a notesheet for every test (handwritten) and could use those notesheets again on the final. His tests are straight forward, no tricks
Hands down the best Calculus I teacher. MTHSC 106 is a difficult course because of the material. All tests are created by the department as a whole. Guest teaching though is helpful and the learning activities prepare you. Be sure to study as your grade relies mainly on exams. MyMathLab is an easy way to boost your grade as well.
Absolutely fabulous. I wish he taught every class I took! Calculus isn't easy, but he does everything in his power to help you succeed. He really cares about your education!
Excellent.
Works with students and gives many examples to help you understand the material.
best calc teacher by far
One of the best teachers I have ever had, and from what I have heard easily the best 206 teacher at clemson. he gives one in class group assignment every week (90% of the time on thursday) and gives 2-3 fairly simple HW assignments during the week. Tests are never tricky, so if you study the examples done in class, it is a pretty easy A.
The best. End of story.
Great teacher. Probably the best math teacher on campus.
The class is very difficult, but Professor Guest is very clear on what is expected. Teaching difficult material and focuses on questions likely to be on the test. Took Guest the second time I took the class and he is the best at teaching. It is worth changing your schedule to have him!!
Mr. Guest is by far the best Mathematics teacher at Clemson. He does not have a Ph.D. but he makes some of those tenured professors look like complete clowns. Go out of your way to get this man--you will be extremely glad you did.
Excellent calc teacher. Extremely helpful and reasonable throughout the semester. A+
By far the best math teacher at Clemson. I've never heard anyone say something bad about him. He teaches quite a few levels of calculus so get him if you actually need to know the stuff later!
Love him. He was so helpful and caring. There is no other teacher like him.
Makes difficult Calculus concepts crystal clear. Great professor!
Great Teacher; possibly the best. Always willing to help. Do the minimal homework and in-class assignment and your set.
Guest is a good teacher. Not as amazing as these other comments led me to believe, but who knows, maybe he's just not my style and he might be better for others. Would recommend him over most 206 professors though!
Guest is very smart, but sometimes cannot express what the material he is trying to teach into words that are understandable. Don't worry though, if you keep asking him to clarify, he will tell you exactly what is going on. Tests are hard, but they are counter-acted by the WebAssign work which counts for a lot.
amazing teacher! go out of your way to take him
Great professor! If you're taking any math class and Mr. Guest is teaching, take him, he is the best!
One of the best math teacher I have ever had. Highly recommanded.
He was a good teacher that was always willing to help you if you had questions. He had a hard time getting the information to the class clearly but he will clarify if you ask. The test are not easy but they aren't extremely hard, just make sure you study and ask questions.
Good teacher, flexible with missing work if you talk to him. Department coordinated class so he has no control on tests/exam. Recommend him.
great!!
GREAT TEACHER
Dr. Guest is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He teaches in a way that will not bore advanced students but also will not alienate ones who are lost. I found every day worth attending. He is very understanding and rather lenient in grading, and certainly humble. Calculators and note sheets were used on tests, which are big helps.
BEST MATH TEACHER AT CLEMSON! He makes every thing very easy to understand, and it was worth it to take 8am math to have him as a teacher.
I took 206 with rios-adams and did horribly because i had no clue what she was saying but when i took it with guest i got an A and didnt have to try much at all. I definitely recommend him.
Over summer school, I had Professor Guest. He was articulate and moved at a manageable pace. If you pay attention in class, you will be fine.
great overall math teacher. Explain this very clearly and absolutely helpful outside of class.
This guy explains things so clearly. He also refreshes your mind and goes back to things you might have forgot from previous Math classes. Helpful with anything. Extending HW when needed.
Great professor. Very lenient on homework policy and can email him with questions.
One of the best math teachers I have ever had! Extremely helpful and goes over plenty of examples. Take him if you get the chance!!
Could'nt have asked for a better teacher. Very visual, draws examples of everything on board and writes all notes on board so they are easy to copy down. Also, very good at explaining things and explaining the math topics. And if you have a problem with a type of question, he will sit down with you and help you until you figure it out.
Very great math teacher. Very helpful if you have a question about something. He has hard exams, but offers extra credit.
Guest is a great instructor. Thus far, he is the only decent math professor I've had. He makes difficult information easy to understand. I wish I could have taken him for 106 and 108. I can't imagine getting a bad grade in any class he teaches, he's just that helpful and knowledgeable.
Mr. Guest is the best math teacher I have ever had in my life. He is extremely analytical and presents explanations in the most logical manner. If you have a problem he will sit down and help you. Never makes you feel stupid which is more than can be said for most math teachers. If I could take him for 108 I would but he wasn't teaching it. GET HIM!
Best math teacher I have ever had. I just wish he taught 108... Probably wouldn't have had to drop it.
He's an awesome teacher. Lots of homework though! Best 106 professor. I wish he was teaching 206.
Great teacher! He never just throws a formula or idea at you. He always builds it up first with previous info, then gives a geometric interpretation and then gives you the formula and by then it makes sense! He gives bonus which helps A LOT!
Professor Guest is fantastic. He explains things clearly and the class goes at a good pace. This has been my favorite class at Clemson because Guest is actually a good teacher unlike many other professors at Clemson
Awesome teacher, Mathsc 106 is notoriously a hard class, and it is, but you have to take it, and he is probably the best guy for the job. Crystal clear explanations, and he was very nice and patient, although he kept a very good pace. Do not miss class though, or you will fall into a hole.
Really great professor! Super clear and makes everything understandable. Notes are very well thoughtout and easy to follow. Some effort is needed since it is calculus but he makes all the material easy to understand. Definitely Recommend!!!
Mr. Guest is an awesome professor! He is currently the coordinator for MTHS 1060, meaning he makes out the exams. No quizzes in class, just group learning activities which are hard, but he rounds your LA + MML average in the end. His class is enjoyable and he's definitely more of a visual teacher (which helps with concepts). Take him if you can!
Excellent teacher, makes material clear and easy to understand. Always willing to help you out and explain in more depth.
Incredible teacher. Takes hard calculus concepts and makes them a lot easier and more manageable. Always fair in grading. Tests are hard, but what did you expect? It's calculus. Random bits of sarcasm keeps things lighthearted. Don't come late, he can get a little frustrated.
Dr. Guest is a pretty great professor. If you ask questions, he'll definitely help you out. The one downside is that 1060 is a team taught course so he doesn't necessarily make the tests, so they can be a little brutal. If you work hard, go to all the classes, and do all of the work, you'll be fine.
Math 1060 is departmentalized so it pays off to have a good teacher. Guest is a cool guy and was interesting enough where I wanted to go to class. Great at explaining things, not too much mandatory homework. Most likely the best 1060 professor. Would take him again in a heartbeat
Good teacher explains things well and at times is funny.
He's pretty good at explaining things I guess but he really makes things more complicated than they should be. He is very willing to help though.
He's an amazing teacher, but you have to go to class and listen and take notes. You also have to practice problems constantly.
Great guy and teaches clearly
Dr. Guest is an excellent professor. He takes the time to explain everything you need to know, and he is very insightful about the exams. He knows what you need to know and he does a good job of making you learn it. What more could you ask?
Calculus was a huge struggle bus for me, and mainly because i didn't start out on the right foot, but Professor Guest is one of the nicest guys, and he does an excellent job of teaching the class. You have in class group work to help and he makes himself super available for office hours. It's a lot of hard work, but he's a gem.
Okay so calculus was a struggle for me. I didn't start out on the right foot and I wasn't prepared for calculus in college. However, Guest is a GREAT guy and a good professor. You have group work to help and I wish I made more of an effort to go to office hours. I am going to have to retake it but definitely recommend Guest for a professor.
Great professor all in all. He was skilled in actually communicating the subject material, and he was animated enough to keep the students' interest. He also provided examples of applications, which a lot of math professors don't do but should.
Really a pleasant person to be around. Good policies great teacher. Definitely recommend. Has some quirks but funny usually and honest.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. I'm not really a math person, and he made calculus easy. If you actually do some practice problems once in a while outside of class, the majority of Calc 1060 isn't too difficult. If you're honest with yourself about what you don't know and go to him for help, it's totally possible to get an A.
Has a passion for the fundamentals of calculus and really tries to show you how it works. He can seem like he's putting you off when he tells you you're wrong but its b/c he just deals in true/false statements. Very clear. Fast-paced. lots of in class work and weekly hw. not mandatory but you have to go to class!! take advantage of PAL sessions
Best math professor at Clemson, hands down. He is passionate, caring, intelligent, and makes sure all his students know what is going on. His teaching style is really conducive to learning the material in and out. Doesn't give pop-quizzes like other professors, but instead gives extra homework and in class activities.
Definitely one of the better math 208 professors. He's very intelligent and is always accessible outside of class willing to help. Lectures can be hard to pay attention in as he sometimes gives long seemingly unnecessary proofs, but stick with it, listen and ALWAYS TAKE NOTES. Don't slack off on HW or note taking or you'll be lost.
Great professor. Take him if you get the chance! He has a lot of proofs in lecture, but it helps you understand the material. It is a difficult class but that's because it's difficult material, not because of the professor.
Lectures are brilliant, uses proofs and good pictures/graphs to explain hard concepts. Lots of hand-written chalk-board examples. He will make you work hard for your grade but you will learn more. His class is VERY organized and well-planned as he was the course coordinator for MATH 2060 this past semester.
Guest is a phenomenal professor. If you put the work in there is no reason you cannot make an A in his class. He will push back HWs if he feels enough students need more time and has the best office hours I've ever been to. His notes are some of the best I've ever had. If you can schedule this man take him.
Guest is a cool guy, personable, and easy to follow in class. There are quizzes every week which can be hard but he drops one. There are webassigns on every topic but he always pushes back the due dates. He had all 3 of our exams online through webassign so if you can copy down enough examples on your cheat sheet, they are not very hard.
Professor Guest is easily the best professor/teacher I've ever had. His lectures are so easy to follow and you can tell he genuinely cares if his students are understanding the material. He's also very helpful during office hours and an overall awesome person!! If you study the material he recommends before tests, you'll do great!
Guest is easily the best Calc 3 professor. Don't take anyone else. He prepares you so well for the exams, just do the learning activities and learn the process for each type of problem. The 3 semester exams were easy if you practice, but the final was pretty hard.
Guest was a thourough instructor and gave opportunities to "argue" back points if he misgraded something. He was tentative and quick to post answers to worksheets, homework, and the exams. His exams were somewhat easy. The final exam took a complete 180 and was the hardest exam that I took in his class. I went from a B to a C from the final exam.
He's the most practiced guy teaching calc 3 and he really knows what he's talking about. You need to take advantage of the extra credit opportunities; they're not that hard and they heavily boost your daily assignment grade. The average for the three exams was in the mid 70s but the final average was in the low 60s. Prepare well for that one
Amazing teacher, very funny and informative. 100% the best option for calc 3 at clemson
Guest is one of the best professors I've had at Clemson. The class is definitely not an easy A or even an easy B or C, but he really explains the concepts well and really wants you to do well. He has awesome office hours and makes himself available everyday. His exams are tough but if you put the work in throughout the semester, you'll do great!
Professor Guest is amazing! I took this class this past semester as a freshman, and boy was it hard. I had never taken physics in high school and had only taken BC, so a lot of the material was completely new to me. However, he really makes sure that everyone understands a certain topic before he moves on. The tests were difficult but manageable!
He is the best professor if you actually want to learn. If you don't test well, I would take it with another professor because his tests are difficult. Overall, his classes are great.
Tough content. Online homework often took 3+ hours, but was really helpful to see what other problems could be done with the content we learned in class. The online homework had a "show me step by step" option. Very useful. Professor Guest was the best teacher I had my freshman year. Take his section.
Guest is a great teacher and my favorite professor this semester. I'd recommend him if you're interested in learning the material. He can be tough on syntax but otherwise, he's a fair grader. Don't skip Tuesday classes because usually there's group work. The bookwork isn't graded too tough so don't stress it. Also, he is pretty funny too.
Allen Guest is amazing. As long as you take good notes (which is easy to do since he writes everything on the board), you're set for the homework and tests. He also posts his old exams for you to study, which helps a lot. He's really laid back, and for a calculus class, I really enjoyed his class. I would definitely take him again if I could.
I like Prof Guest a lot. He was funny & made class enjoyable. The final replaces your lowest test grade & the homework and class work is easy. Lectures are really helpful, he writes really good notes on the board & he post past exams & lots of practice problems, so while the exams are difficult, you know what to prepare for. Hes a super nice guy.
Cool dude and a good teacher. But that doesn't mean the class is easy, I found it harder than calc 2 which is notorious at clemson. As always, I recommend doing old tests to study. Fair on grading and assignments. Textbook is just used for the homework notebook and he skims through that. Free online textbook is given.
Gosh darn it. - Prof Guest when he drops his chalk I loved this class. I was super intimidated of Calc 3 as a first semester freshman, but he explains things so wonderfully and simply as long as you take notes and pay attention you will not only pass, but actually learn! (Which is more than I can say for the other math teachers I've had at Clemson)
Prof. Guest cares about his students. He is always ready to answer questions or help out on homework problems. He gives lots of opportunities to practice tough concepts during in-class learning activities.
The best prof for calc!! He cares about his students so much and is always there to help. His grading is pretty lenient and he'll give you HW extensions if you ask. He's the nicest prof I've had so far. His lectures are super simple yet you learn everything you need. Calc is hard, but he definitely makes it a lot better than it is!
His lectures are fantastic and very easy to understand. However, missing even one lecture can put you back really badly. My one gripe, is that when he uploads assignments could sometimes be the day of, and the times they are due are not always consistent. As long as you check for a surprise assignment daily, he is a phenomenal teacher.
I wasn't the biggest fan of Prof Guest. I took Calculus in high school for two years, so I took this class as a refresher before taking Calc 3. I didn't really like his teaching style, and the exams were a lot more difficult than I was expecting. He did teach it well, but I just didn't gel with how he taught the material (example heavy lectures).
Guest wasnt a bad professor at all. I just hated the way he taught the class. He was very good at explaining how to do things in his lectures, however the homework was extremely hard and didnt seem to have anything to do with the lectures at times. You are also required to teach yourself a subject every Thur in his class. Not bad, just not 4 me
Professor Guest is great at explaining topics that seem daunting at first. Classwork is actually helpful and not just busywork, and he will walk around the room and answer any questions you may have. Definitely would take again!
Hes the best! its a hard class, but he makes it interesting. Hes a really nice guy and is always willing to help. Tests aren't too bad, homework is pretty time consuming. Would def take again!
I had to take calculus over the summer and I was so glad I had Dr. Guest! He was understanding and worked with me because I was also working a full time job. He is considerate and does a great job of giving lots of materials to help you understand the content.
Nice guy. Hard class tho
Great class, great professor. Although his way of explaining things is confusing at times, I will without a doubt take his Calculus II class if he is teaching one.
He is very helpful during office hours. Very funny and if you review for the exams using the practice he posts, then you will do great. I took AP Calc in high school, so I knew the material from before but his lectures are well taught and he always asks if anyone has any questions.
I took this class first semester of my freshman year so I was not prepared for the workload. He was willing to work with you if you missed an assignment here or there. He cares about his students and is a fantastic teacher which is a quality that most professors lack. Highly recommend him.
great lectures, very clear. Lots of homework thats gonna apply to any calc course. Lots of examples and ways to discuss with him if you need help. The days before each exam is just spent reviewing and those were so helpful to me that I started going to a second session of his class before exams. no zoom for thursday either so you can do it whenever
He's really good and really understanding with his students. Whenever I had a question outside of class, he would respond super quickly via email, and was flexible with due dates if you have been performing well up until that point. He was a really great professor and I definitely recommend him. Plus his dry humor is funny too.
Guest is a good Math professor, and he does a good job with introducing the first set of concepts of Calculus. If this is your first Clemson Math class, be prepared for a lot of test questions that involve trig, ln/e. While Prof Guest doesn't emphasize those types of questions in his lectures, he's always extremely helpful with any questions.
Best professor I've had overall, and definitely the best math teacher I've ever had. Attendance is optional, but I'd highly recommend going. He explains everything super clearly, and just going to class and participating made Calc 1060 honestly a pretty easy course. Definitely recommend taking him if you can.
Really great lecturer. Really great at explaining questions till YOU fully understand the answer. Was very approachable, and had open office hours.
What a GOAT. He's the best math professor I've ever had. He's old school and works out all the problems on a chalk board which I like because he takes his time and explains what to do. He's good at lecturing, make sure to go to class though, especially if you're not good at math, Calculus is not easy. He'll always help you if you go to office hours
He was very funny and enthusiastic about helping students.
This man is the greatest math professor at Clemson. He lectures solely on chalk boards but is very thorough and open to questions. He likes to walk around after giving an example to solve and give you advice over your shoulder. He really cares about students!
Cannot recommend enough. Actually teaches you everything you will need to know. As long as you put in some effort and don't skip you'll do great. He actually cares whether you learn the material or not so don't be afraid to ask questions.
Guest is probably the best professor Clemson has to offer. While he is great, this class was so extremely hard not even he could help me. The course came easy to a lot of people but it didn't to me. If math isn't your strong suite TAKE HIM!!! He'll be your best bet to pass. He is really easy to reach and always guides you through problems. Love him
Professor Guest is a good guy! His lectures are easy to follow, and he really goes in-depth into each topic that needs to be learned. You can tell he enjoys math, which makes him more enjoyable. If you can take him, you should definitely take him!
Professor Guest is amazing to learn from; he prepares you for all material on exams, has great office hours, and has the driest humor which is so funny. Attendance not required BUT learning activities/handouts so go to class; you will fall behind too because of the pace of the course. Take 1040+1070 if it's too fast; 1060 final is exemptible.
Funny guy and likes to teach topics from the ground up. "Now does anybody have any questions about this?"
Elite teacher
Highly recommend for everyone. Amazing teacher.
His lectures are very clear and he does plenty of examples in them. Old school, only uses a blackboard and chalk. Weekly quizzes that you need to go to the PAL sessions for to be really prepared. Super funny guy though and a fantastic professor.
Professor Guest is a great math teacher. His lectures are engaging and he really cares about students learning the material. Using Unstuck study along with the free textbook helped me stay on top of the challenging content.
I had taken AP Calc BC in high school, but Professor Guest was very good at explaining things and always encouraged us to ask questions. He can be a bit of a savage sometimes, but it keeps things interesting. I went to his office hours, and he's actually a pretty cool guy outside of class. I would recommend
My favorite math professor thus far! Even though I'm engineering, math doesn't always click instantly for me and he does an awesome job listening to students and breaking down tough concepts. Don't get me wrong, Calc 2 is going to be a difficult class regardless of the professor, but I highly recommend Allen Guest.
I loved going to class with Allen as my teacher. He is such a joy to listen to him geeking out about math in his southern accent saying "Ah Ha!" when he makes a connection. Makes me smile thinking back to taking his class!
Dr. Guest is my favorite teacher yet! Very helpful and funny. There are in class activities once a week that you have to show up for. Yes, he lectures on the chalk board but is good at what he does.
Professor Guest is great at illustrating concepts and is super approachable for questions. Felt like I had a leg up on friends taking 1080 with different professors. He loves the chalkboard!
Amazing professor overall. Very strict about cell phones but it really wasnt a problem as his lectures were very interesting to listen to and the class went by quickly. Will get you ready for the exams.
The single best math lectures I have received in my life. Truly, my only complaint is that I'm worried that I'll never have such a good math teacher.
Everyone says calc 2 is the hardest math at Clemson but Guest makes it super easy. The only way to get behind is if you don't pay attention. He knows every student by name and will never make you feel dumb. He's one of the best math professors I've ever had. Love his southern "damnit" when he makes a small error
Great professor who makes a hard class much easier to learn. Easy to talk to and is very helpful. Weekly quizzes were annoying but the exams were not bad.
Really good professor, gives good answers to questions in class and provides a multitude of material for study if you need it. Weekly quizzes can be tedious but not bad at all.
Fantastic teacher. Understands the content extremely well and if you ask a question in class he will drop everything until you understand it. content is extremely difficult, and you will have to study hard outside of class and do many practice problems, but lecture is incredibly helpful, and you should pay close attention and take good notes.
