Mr. Hamilton is a master storyteller, and he teaches History as such. Instead of lecturing, he presents American History as a "Soap Opera" (his words ;]). His tests are based entirely on the Notes Handbook *he* wrote & gives you a study guide of terms as well. You'll never be bored in his class!
Prof. Hamilton is the best teacher I have ever had! He is funny, then serious, then sexy! A great guy. I hate history but I took him for both courses!!
This teacher is very funny. Makes the class fun and interesting. I never liked history. I thought is was boring but he made it very interesting. Recommend for history.
Mr Hamilton is the type of prefosser I plan to be. He is excellent and very intresting. I would highly recommend everyone to take his course.
Best Prof. in St. Philips
Mr. Hamilton is hilarious. The way he teaches makes it easy to follow and because he can't help but be funny his tests are easy.
kick ass professor!!!!
That is my coolest teacher
Took the telecourse version of this class but I would've liked to take his regular class. He is a great story teller and makes history interesting. Hold on to the study guides and you'll make an 'A'.
Best history teacher ever! Loved his class! He makes history very awsome!
i took him for hst1301, so you can say he is a great professor
I LOVED this professor so much I took him for both histories!!!!! He really made history easy and fun and I actually learned things in the class. If you just listen in class and read the notes you will make good grades.
ok, i hate history....but this professor is the only professor that i have ever had that made it interesting and funny. easy tests (if you study your notes), textbook not needed. The best history professor....oh and final is a take home!!!
Internest History Course-He is very organized. Responds to emails.
took this class online..so hard, if you slack you will fail, there is a test for every chapter, your test is only 30 minutes long for 30 questions and each chapter is about 15 pages long...would not encourage anyone to take his class online.
I took him for History 1301 & 1302 Internet. He is very good and responds to emails.
I am currently taking his 1302 class and it is THE WORST internet class iv ever taken. Majority of the classes i take are online and this one is soooooo hard. No matter how much u study, do reviews, pretests, etc the tests are impossible. I DO NOT recommend this internet class
OK, some dimbulbs have complained about how hard his internet class is; I took both of his classes, and they are not easy but come on guys!! You have to read 15 pages a week and take a test! BOO HOO HOO, so hard. He drops your two lowest grades, there are no term papers, no discussion groups. What else do you want? This is college ya know.
About 15 chapters and 15 quizzes over each chapter. No papers or final. A+
I took this class over the internet. We took one test a week, and wrote a paper at the end of the class, which is not graded but has to be college level...duh! I would take another taught by him.
I took this class over the internet last semester and had a horrible experience. I have never done so badly in a class before. I do NOT reccomend this teacher.
he is good
Mr. Hamilton is fun. He using today's literature to help better understand history. His test are multiple questions and with the option to write an essay on some topics chosen for half the test. It's strickly lecture but FUN. Don't fall asleep, he will wake you up but for me the class was to fun to fall asleep. I FULLY recondmend him 100%
Look if you are going to take his class take this class in person! He is great, intelligent, and will make you like history. He believes if you are smart enough to teach yourself online what he went to school for years to learn then you better be ready to study! Plus he has written a book and if you want to pass his tests get his book!
I took the online course for 1301 & 1302 and this is was a easy class for me. If you are not good at history I suggest you study, but the shedule of the course work is not hard and the only grades you get is from the tests he assigns you. However you have one final critical reading essay which is not part of your grade but is still mandatory.
This instructor is fabulous! If your not that interested in History you will be. When he lectures he will keep you interested. If you want to pass his course just buy his book. If you don't want to take a final just maintain an 'A'. Its just that easy. Attend class, buy a book and take his exams! He loves what he does. And you will too : )
I took both Internet Courses with him. I love that he treats you well and works with you. Gives all the test to take. Expects first six done by mid-term and other six by final and one critical essay to write that is not graded but mandatory...oh and he drops at least 2 of the worst grades...You do have to discipline yourself to get it read and done
I love this professor! He is intelligent, witty, and entertaining. He does everything he can to help you pass except give you the answers to his multiple choice tests. You have the option to write a short essay or do all the multiple choice questions. AND! he suggest you buy a copy of his outlined notes that have been published and are very clear.
Online course: You take all 15 chapter tests, but he drops the 5 lowest grades. Pace yourself for 1 per week b/c he does have timelines for tests to be completed by. The online practice quizzes helped, but the questions come straight out of the text, so read! 1 non-graded, 600 word essay due to get a grade for class. He expects professionalism.
HIS CLASS WAS SO EASY. I WOULD TAKE ANOTHER CLASS TAUGHT BY HIM AGAIN.
Loved his class! The textbook was not dry whatsoever! I enjoyed his readings and he drops your two lowest grades!
Very prompt on email, clear, straight-cut and to the point. Blunt but truthful too. :) There were a couple problems with some of the questions in the tests being from the older edition of the book but that was out of his hands. Just study hard and do the tests on time and you'll get a good grade. Hardly any student discussion at all though.
I took HIST 1301 and 1302 online with Professor Hamilton. YOU MUST READ THE BOOK! All tests are based on what you read. You need to turn in 1 paper. He is clear in his instructions. Great instructor and very helpful when you need assistance.
THIS is how online classes should be! Like most people who take online classes, I don't always have a lot of time. This professor is mostly work-at-your-own-pace which is wonderful! The workload is very reasonable, and I just pick up the work when I have the time. Would recommend to anyone!
I took this class in flex one this spring there are 15 tests he bases your final on your 10 highest test and that includes your final. Say you fail your final but you have 10 test were you passed. He bases your grade on those. He has you write a 600 word paper which is about two pages. Its not graded and its at your own pace. Great class!
Took the online flex course. Class was very clearly outlined. 1 paper 10 tests and one final. 2 lowest grades will be dropped and if you turn in the paper early he'll drop 3. Always 1 or 2 questions on tests that could go any way, but generally As are very reachable. Self motivated learners will thrive and As are very attainable.
This course is not as easy as people say.The prep quizzes seem to cover a lot,but not what's on the test. The test covers the rest. After doing all the prep, make sure to think what else could that be... those parts you have not been prepared to - they would be on the test. Maybe the trick is in purchasing professor's notes as commented below.
Did not like this class at all. The only positive thing was that he drops 5 of your lowest exam grades. If you don't have amazing memory skills, you won't pass the exams. The study guides don't help either.
Prof. Hamilton is great. I took the online Flex class and it was a breeze! So long as you don't fall behind (2-3 chaps a week and you're golden!)and read the chapters fully, you'll do great. He is very helpful if you have any questions or issues and usually answers very promptly. I'm planning on taking HIST 1302 with him as well. He's wonderful.
15 chapter exams 5 of the lowest are dropped. Don't bother w/ the "pre-tests" as the test is completely different. I recommend buying the ebook as you can search key phrases to assist you while taking each exam. 600 word essay due at the end of the course which is not graded. This is probably required to make sure you "attended" the course
The most interesting man, he made me love history, and he made it fun.
His online classes involve very little "instruction." You have to read the chapters and then take the exams. You learn by reading. Be prepared for the exams, though, as the questions can be obscure and a bit tricky. You can use your book during exams and I suggest you do so. Take your time, do your reading, and you will do fine.
This was the worst online class, so many tests and none are dropped. Questions are tricky and meant to confuse you. The course is online and he makes the questions the way he would only understand them. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Interesting read, was engaged in the book and took many notes as well as completing the pre tests. The actual tests have no relation to the pretest and the questions had too many either or choices. Don't recommend after taking this course online. The only up side to everything was that he drops some tests.
Took this course during summer online. You are tested on 15chapters in 5wks. There's A LOT of reading, pre-tests are time consuming (didn't help). The tests are timed, worded very tricky, confusing even after reading & doing all pre-work! Even after dropping 5 of the lowest tests it was still hard to pass bc tests are HARD. There is a final to.
Took this course online and must say it was very difficult. Test are worded tricky and all the answers are straight from the book which is to much to remember . Also there is a lot of reading, pretests do not help at all and are a waste of time. Only good thing is that he drops the lowest 5. I do not recommend taking this class.
I wish there were Test Reviews. A lot of reading and note taking. But a lot to absorb. Some Test questions were easy and some where difficult.
Professor Hamilton's online class is ALOT of reading, yes. However, he tells you that from day one in your syllabus. Are his tests straight out of the book? No, you have to think outside the box, but again, he tells you that from day one. He lets you work at your own pace and when you get in a bind, he has such an eagerness to help.
I honestly thought this online course would be simple because of the few assignments he provided. However his exams are the worst! I had a history major help me with an exam and I received a 40! He requires you to take 15 exams for each chapter that you read and gives you 50 minutes to answer difficult questions. Make sure you take lots of notes!
Didn't have any lectures to follow, everything is by the book. It's a lot of reading, very boring unless you're a history buff. You must be able to take excellent notes in order to pass!! Very difficult tests. There are 15 tests over each chapter you read, and a final test that will determine your grade. I struggled in this class...
Professor Hamilton, was the perfect professor for me, especially since this was my first online college course. He was extremely fair and helpful when it came to some questions I was concerned about on tests. He obviously wanted his students to succeed. He cares more about learning than he does testing. He was gentle in his responses to me.
Took as online flex course. To me he was not interactive the way he did it. All he had you do is read the chapter and take a quiz on it. I received a C because I wanted to long to read the chapters. Make sure you read in a good amount of time. He just was not my style of teaching.
This course can be time consuming, but I would rather read then write, so it was great for me. The review quizzes I didn't do. The chapter outline and on line chapter work sheets were very helpful. I really enjoy reading the text, and found it interesting . It was a very fast pace, but over quickly. don't fall behind.
Professor Hamilton was one of my favorite professors. The online class worked best for me. I would recommend this class to anyone, like all college level classes you are expected to do the work. He was very accessible, he emailed me back within the hour even on sundays! he also goes above and beyond for his students and puts his students first.
Great class!
Took online history 1301, struggled until I found out the tests were open book. Skip the review quizzes- they're not related and he often makes mistakes on them. There is absolutely no help from him, you just have to watch the office hour videos (made by the writer of the book, not Professor Hamilton), read the chapter, and hope for the best.
Awesome professor! This class consisted of like 10 tests and a final, all of which you pretty much do at your own pace. There are 2 deadlines for the entire class. I hope he teaches the other history classes that I need, I will chose him every single time!!
Professor Hamilton is great and I enjoyed his reading assignments, I learned a lot. No essays only a total of 10 quizzes and a final exam. He gives you an hour on each quiz and there a total of 20-25 questions. Pretty easy overall as long as you read your book.
Opens up all tests (10 total plus final) at beginning of term, no papers required. Gives 2 due dates to complete everything, so you can go at your own pace. Lots of reading, gives reviews and supplemental reading as pdf's. Drops 2 lowest test grades. Don't leave everything to the last minute, you'll do fine. Would take again.
10 tests, final, & extra credit; 25 ques & 1hr for each test. No essays or discussions. Need the book for tests. Opens all of them at beginning, but there are two due dates to finish them all by. Drops lowest 2 test grades. Best prof for TX HIST if you need the credit.
The grades in the class consist of 10 tests, and thats it. The online course I took with him was self paced, and pretty easy to knock out. The tests were kind of difficult so make sure to get the textbook. The answers can't be easily found online, its best just to read. He does drop the 2 lowest grades so its easy to get a good grade.
Took this class on flex. Super easy class. Everything on quizlet! Hepls you boost your GPA.
Easy class, just read the book. he drops the lowest 3 quizzes. but beware he added lock down browser on the quizzes and final.
Lots of reading! Tests are the only assignments! Total of 10 tests & the final. Professor uses LockDown Browser. Some questions for tests arent even in the chapters required to read for the tests. Started with 100s and high 90s on my tests and slowly went down to 60s. This class is difficult and there is no lecture powerpoints of any kind. AVOID!
Class made up of tests (open book), he drops 2 lowest test grades and final exam if its lower. I'd would take his class again. Easy as long as you don't wait to take the tests.
Took this class for summer 1. This class is full of test they are open book! He drops the 2 lowest test grades, there is extra credit given! He replies fast if you need help with anything. LockDown Browser is required for all test. Very easy class as long as you don't wait till the last minute.
TEST/QUIZ ARE SOOO HARDDDDDD
Professor Allen Lee Hamilton. Lets you work at your phase. he does not babysit you. if you want to be babysat do not take this class. He lets you know you must read and complete the tests and will drop your lowest test. You can work at your own phase. Tests are open to be done whenever you want. took this class online and it was stress-free
only 10 tests + final. no papers, no discussions. uses respondus but without the webcam. tests aren't google friendly, you're gonna have to read the text book. only 2 due dates, can work at your own pace. drops lowest 2 test grades, can replace 3rd lowest with final grade if final is higher. couple of opportunities for extra credit.
I had to take this course for my major and I had to take the course online because of my work and home schedule but I have to say that I enjoyed the class. You will have to read a lot and every chapter has a test. He gave us a syllabus of what was expected and as long as you follow it, you will have no problem. I would his classes again.
Hardest online course I've taken. I sent him a panic email within a week expressing my concern of failing. But he reassured me that he drops the two lowest grades and replaces the next lowest with your final if its higher. I ended up with an 85% (even with getting two 65% on tests) but he bumped my final grade up to an A+. He offers extra credit!
Took this class as 8 week flex online. Lots and lots of reading to do. No assignments just quizzes and final exam. No simple questions, wants you to think outside the box for each question on tests. No lecture presentations, just reading, and the study guides do jot help. Does drop 2 lowest test scores at end of semester and gives extra credit.
This online class was almost ruining my GPA. Literally, I read the book verbatim, still made 88-92 range mostly. Reviews are not related to the test's questions. He wants you to guess what is his own answers in his mind. I don't know his in-class performance, however, DON'T takes it online. You might be regretful. Watch the census date to drop.
currently in this online course got on to vent. With someone who has anxiety issues I struggled beating the timer. Yes it's open book and I printed out review sheets so I knew what to look for and took notes but the questions have nothing to do with the review. I try and get back to the book but it takes so much time. I cry after class is stressful
Professor Hamilton is great! Especially for those who manage their time well and like self paced classes. There are only tests in this class but he drops your lowest two grades so that helps. Its really important to understand what you are reading and not just think you can skim through the book.
Great program and professor
Professor Hamilton class is very tough. You will definitely read 2 chapters and then test over those 2 chapters. The tests doesn't always match the 2 chapters that you have read. I study and re-read each chapter twice and I still had a hard time answering most of the questions. He has trick questions. Yes all test are timed.
I never did rate my professor before, but this was the worst class I ever taken! This class only consumes of test! The test have nothing to do with the study guide and presentations. The teacher wants you to think outside the box or think how his mind thinks! So horrible I regret it and glad I dropped his course first time to having to drop a class
Although the class is tough and you have to have a good understanding of the textbook, it was a good class overall. You only have to take tests and extra credit assignments. He also drops your two lowest test grades and does a test evaluation to where if 75% of the class misses one question, he doesnt count it. Also very helpful!
I took the excellerated summer semester for this class and while it is tough and heavy reading, Professor Hamilton is quick to reply and very helpful. He allows you to take two tests over and drops your lowest two grades. He also has flashcards, videos and notes attached to help you along with textbook reading, as well has extra credit opportunitie
Professor Hamilton is great! If you manage your time well this is the class to take. Its important that you read the chapters. He provides a lot of information for the chapters. There are only tests in this class but he drops your lowest two grades.
Get ready to read. The reading is easy but the test does not make up what is in the chapters. All of your assignments are tests so if you get low grades there is no possible way to make it up since there are no extra assignments to do. I would not recommend this professor.
An okay professor. If you're not a reader or have ADHD, beware, you're gonna need some kind of stimulant or medication to get through this class. It's only tests which can be a double-edged sword. This professor also uses Lockdown Browser, so note usage is iffy. If you want to take this one, use the Inquisitive program to help you. Has extra cred.
Such a great professor I took his class online you have to take the test on an app called lockdown browser. I once had a glitched and got a 12 score I told Mr. Hamilton and he gave me another opportunity! He answers fast and the class is so interesting even though it's a lot reading. My advice is not to wait last minute todo the test and take notes
I wish I read the reviews on rate my professor before I signed up for this class. The whole course is literally just reading long chapters in the textbook and taking tests on them. Some of the questions aren't even covered in the chapter. It's frustrating when I spend hours studying and still get a bad grade on the test. Would not recommend :(
I do NOT recommend this professor. There are no ppts. Tests are timed, with webcam required pointing to different angles. He would ask for any small details, such as names and years, in the whole chapter. Second chance tests are not similar to the first chance tests and harder. No way to get good grades even if you study hard.
Terrible. grade based on 15 quizzes, although 5 lowest dropped, and 1 final essay. sososososososo bad
I like Professor Hamilton as a person but his class is insane, he is way too hard none of his questions match his material it's outrageously difficult, do not take him
I'm not a fan of history. Took this as an online course. Really didn't think it was that bad. Just a lot of reading, & make sure you take notes on every detail you think is important. 15 chapters to read & take a proctored open notes quiz on each. You get 2 attempts, although each one is different from the other. Lots of bonus points opportunities.
No good guidance on what to concentrate on when reading. During tests it will be open note and you have to use Lock Down Browser. You cannot reference your textbook. When reading you will need to take note of every person, book, newspaper, and date. I would take 10-12 pages of note. Tests uses publisher bank of questions at a very difficult level.
This class is nothing short of torture. The only form of grades are test and some extra credit. You have to read the class book which is pretty long, then be expected to memorize every syllable of it for the test questions. You can use notes, but not too much because of the short timer on test. This class, dare I say, is worse than the holocaust.
