Good Prof, interesting at times
Good prof. Overexcited about math
Very good prof, gives good examples, fair marker!!!

passionate about class, but came unprepared, often got examples wrong!
does the job, corny jokes, explains well
Worst. Class. Ever.

Great prof. Very clear with course material and examples. Definitely recommend.
it was a great class
Explained things well, good class
too much theory, corny jokes, gets examples wrong WAY too often for my taste!!
Great prof. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to pass Math103.
very good prof but has ahrd tests.

A very good professor and can teach well
Makes simple concepts complex. Avoid at all costs.
DO NOT TAKE MATH WITH THIS PROF!!!!Avoid at all costs! Very unclear in explanations and screws up examples all the time! Can not explain even the simplest concepts! Tests are short, but if you get even one question wrong, you pay for it!
not bad...not bad...sometimes screws up examples///some units were very confuzing and some easy!
i would recommend this prof to anyone. his tests are absolutely simple and so are the assignments. if you ask him for help he'll explain anything until its completely clear, and if you can't understand something he'll show you a different way.
A decent professor, yet in math 221 he often moves far too quickly through complex concepts. His tests are extremely difficult and require a lot of prep. He often assumes the students know axioms or concepts in advance. Good one on one.
very good prof. made an impossibly hard class not quite so impossible. clear explanations, although he did go pretty fast over one of the toughest units. if it came down to taking a class with him, or another math prof, i'd choose him anyday
I think he is a great guy..just too smart to teach this class..everything goes way over most peoples heads and it really shouldnt..but im sure if he realized that he would find some way to try and dumb it down
Makes simple concepts difficult to thin the class. Is vague and gives ambiguous answers when one on one.
He is good! and the class is well organized~the test is very simple, same as the assignment.
Herman is so unhelpful!!! I was disappointed with his answers and attitude when i approached him with questions. Made me feel like an idiot!
Herman is a decent teacher, but he knows too much to be teaching math 101. he uses alright examples and the course has decent structure. herman doenst offer much help example wise, if you dont get it, your stuck pretty much unless a classmate helps out.
Absolutely brutal. Don't bother asking questions, you end up more confused than before, plus he makes you feel like an idiot. Do not take a class from him!
Way too high on math this guy is!! He would be better off teaching advanced courses where people enjoy math and actually want to learn. He usually makes evrything harder than it actually is with his "shortcuts!!" If you take a class with him, the textbook will be your best friend!

he is not the greatest prof, he goes way over the basic idea, and makes everything harder than it is. he thinks ppl know what they are doing before they get into class. His exams are hard, and have no relation to what we learn in class. dont take a class with him, unless you love math with a passion
I would never take another class with him. The test are nothing like the review questions, unless you really love math and can put lots of concepts together dont take this class. He is to smart for this. And if you have a question best idea is not to answer...He makes you look stupid!
A serious and appropriate math prof for a serious math class. Bouncing with energy.Thinks about twice as fast as most people--be prepared, pay attention, and don't miss classes(!!). I loved his class, but it was difficult, and I didn't show up as much as I should have. Best math prof I've had yet.
Easy class, my high school math class was harder. Tests are questions from assignments, so if you know how to do your assignment, you can do well on the tests. He sometimes goes on too long with examples, or he will do an example wrong and then try to explain it but just confuses everybody.
A horrible professor. He judged me from the first time I approach him, and was horribly rude to me on first contact without being provoked. Herman treats some people well and others poorly, all based on how he sizes you up on first appearance. If you can take a Math class from a Professor either than Herman, I would strongly recommend it.
Awesome, awesome, awesome! This guy is so happy about math! I love it! I can't wait to take more classes from him. I recommend him as a prof. Awesome!

Dr. Herman's class would be very difficult for those not VERY strong in math (I came out of Calculus 30 with a 99 and sometimes find this material quite difficult). He goes WAY beyond the simple material with his massive assignments. However, he is very enthusaiastic about math (I don't get it either) and the tests are easier than assignments.
Has a passion for math, but doesnt understand that the majority of the ppl in the class simpley don't and are no where near as sharp with math as him. In compairison to other 110 classes, his tests are long, challenging, and cover way more than is nessisary. He gives awful assigm=nments that dont pertain to the questions. Only take if you love math
very jittery and all over the place, also very difficult to approach. he'll help you, but he makes you feel very self consious. not very easy to follow or very goot at explaining. I dont recomend him for a lower level math class. his odd quirks and see-through shirts do make math fun. hard class tho.
The best math prof I have ever had. He is easy to understand, very helpful, and very entertaining (making it much easier to stay awake through a math class, lol).
best math teacher i've had. very patient, always willing to help. he does make math interesting.. but his tests are a bit of a **** :)
this guy doesn't even teach, he's just out to proove that he's smarter than everyone.his exams are incredibly difficult and then he proceeds to blame us for having what was it a 54% average on both midterms? last midterm, at 330 (already 10 minutes past the time limit) 7/122 people handed it in. sitting in the aisle, i saw the look on peoples faces
Easy to understand, relays concepts very well. Probably the best "Teacher" i've had in math. Very unique and flexible assignments. TEST ARE HARD. No gimmy marks on these ones guys, you gotta know your stuff, and know it well. Expects you to applie what you learn, instead of going through the steps. Throws monkey wrenches in questions on tests.
really good at explaining what to do, if you can keep up. Is helpful but has "superior" tendancies. can be pretty funny, and provides good study guides for exams.
Goes over all the material and doesnt try to trick you on his exams. Very clear content shows all the steps involved in getting to solution. Always has good reviews for his exams. Weekly assignments helped me have an understanding for questions. All around good guy, (get some new shoes though, runners dont look good with khakis and a vest haha)
Great prof. Very clear gives lots of examples. Made material very easy to understand. Lots of assignements but the material on the assignments was all very relevant. No tricks on exams just wants to test knowledge not trying to trip up his strudents. Would definitely take anouther cllass from him
Excellent Prof. On time. Very organized when teaching. Gives excellent reviews for midterms and the final. Weekly assignments, but very relevant. I am extremely weak in math and he made it make sense. Also, the text (by Bluman) was excellent if you are ever stuck. Would take another class from him!
Excellent prof.
Excellent Prof!Gives a ton of examples, notes are all on website.weekly assignments but they are not really hard and help you learn the material. Very approachable, if your not understanding something go to his office and he will help you understand!
Boring class, kinda a boring guy. Very average prof, not great but i would still take another class from him. Lots of examples. Assignments every week gets old fast however
Definition of a Math Nerd. Not at all interesting to listen to, teaches through examples, no assignments, five quizzes worth 5% each that were easy. I lost a lot of what I learned in high school calculus because I zoned out to make attending this class bearable. There are a lot of other Math/Stat teachers that would be a better choice!
Not very good at all. If you struggle with Math even somewhat... you should not take a class from him. How well you did in Math 101 is NO INDICATION on how well you will do in this class.
Very good prof, very smart. I was never that good in math in high school and I got my best mark with him in University. Gives easy easy marks on assignments if you just write stuff down on your paper. Very clear, helpful and easy to understand. Im no extremely smart person and Allen was a good person to have for one of my weaker subjects. Thumbs Up
He is very interested in math history and it shows in his teaching. He is actually a proff that asks if you understand what he did, but not always in the most convenient places, as some times he goes over some examples to quickly by doing multiple steps at once, and that is not helpful when your calulus skills are rusy. take this class with him!
goes through everything like you already know what to do, skips steps, assumes you know everything. go for other teachers
doesn't answer student's questions. one person asked what happened there and he said "we're done class now so" , he should help student and answer the questions. terrible.
Makes more mistakes than half the class. Does an entire example to change the original question once he can't find a solution. USELESS if you have a question. Skips the hard steps to go through the easy steps slowly. FIND ANOTHER PROF
Super enthusiastic and quite entertaining with classes where he showed applications (Guy can solve a rubik's in less than 5 mins!). Show up to class as he writes a lot of notes. Assignments are great practice for exams. Super helpful in office hours (will spell things out for you). Does really good reviews before exams so pay attention.
Always assume that the student know the material, skip steps and does not answer a student's question correctly.so confusing!
I am really enjoying Professor Herman's Introductory Finite Mathematics I. Lectures move along at a good pace and include everything you need to know for the quizzes. He is accommodating. Students weren't grasping some of the concepts, so he spent one class just reviewing material from a previous class. Not a heavy course load. A great class.
He is a very confusing teacher. I always struggled in math in high school so i barely passing this class. While he is teaching he expects us to know what he is talking about so he skips a lot of steps.
he works fairly fast, like when he's is giving notes, and you will have to do work outside of class to understand somethings, but he is a good grader and give marks for just trying the questions.
I honestly thought he was hilarious, even though he might not have been trying to. I feel like he is just too smart for us to comprehend and has a million things going on in his head. His jokes were beyond lame but they were incredible ad he was really entertaining.
Class content is not overly hard, however, the stuff he teaches and the examples he gives you to study are nothing like the questions on the midterm or the final. his tests are tough.
Prof. Herman is a mathematician and skips over steps in his examples and just assumes the students know what he is doing. He gives marks for just trying which is probably the sole reason I passed his class, so I did appreciate that. Questions on the exams are nothing like what you will go over or practice. He is a nice teacher though overall.
Number Theory is rank, but he gets you through it. He always helps with assignments, and believe me, you will need help. Also, try to arrange with him ahead of time to get more time for tests, because you will need it. He said the midterm would be 6 questions but it was 12.
not the best at lecturing but really cares Spent 2 hours reviewing the day of our final Sets it up so your best marks count and is helpful over email Tries really hard to be funny( he isnt) I would recommend if you have a good basic math knowledge since he does skip some steps( he will go over if you ask, however)
Dr. Herman went through the concepts quite quickly, and his explanations/examples may be confusing at times. Be sure to do the homework, though it is non-mandatory, because it helps ALOT. I found his corny jokes hilarious, and he's a great guy, but would recommend taking this course from another prof because he wasn't the best at explaining things.
Allen is a good guy, he wants you to pass and gives you everything you need to do so. Youll still have to spend time studying to make sure you have every ingrained in your head, but he does amazing with what he teaches. Makes classes worthwhile, this is a prof youd want. Allen is a safe bet
Allen is an awesome prof. He stresses understanding and can actually make the class more enjoyable. He lays out requirements for exams very clearly telling you what to prepare for. Overall very good.
Very generous when it comes to giving out marks for trying during tests, and he often reviews the content learned the previous classes. Caring guy, but wouldn't recommend taking him if math isn't your strongest subject, he expects his students to already know a lot of the content and doesn't explain everything in detail. Funny without trying though
Difficult and long assignments, okay midterms, and okay final. Professor cares about his students. Does review sessions before each midterm and before the final. If you have any questions about the assignments or the grading, he will gladly help you if you go to his office. Curved the first midterm, and had midterm replacement grades on the final.
Math 111 is so hard compared to math 110 its ridiculous!! Allen seemed like a very nice guy and I really wanted to like him, he just didnt explain anything like at all! I found math 110 easy but this class was terrible, the ciriculum is so much harder and you need a prof who explains it well, so I would not recommend Allen as I was confused 24/7
Herman gives hard assignments but then decent midterms and final. Does require you to do practice questions outside of class for homework. Never seen a person get as excited over math as he does, but that makes the lectures a little more interesting. Definitely would take him over some of the other math profs at the U of R.
Not great - messed up lots during lectures, would ask the class for help finding his mistakes. Made the final really hard and doesn't explain sequences/series well so you'll have to teach yourself. If you didn't have experience with difficult integration from AP calc or another former class, good luck. Nice guy but kinda iffy, wouldn't take again
If you want your average to fly up to the seven heavens. Take this class with this prof.
I'm honestly glad I passed this class. Barely understood what I was doing or what was being taught in the class. In the end, I'll definitely not take the class again
Mediocre prof. Makes you work for your marks, but if you are willing to put some work in after class you should be ok. He does work fairly fast and skips some explanations, but if you ask him questions during the lecture, he will go back and explain it again
This was a very hard course. He goes on about things that arent relevant to what we need to know. He does a lot of math extremely fast, leaving the class really confused. If you visit him during office hours to ask a question, hell make you feel stupid that you couldnt work out an answer. Very very hard course.
doesnt explain any concepts clearly
If you attend the lecture daily, you would surely pass with good grades, his teaching is so difficult to understand and grab the knowledge. one more thing his paper would be sort of easy and tricky
If you see this professor, just drop the course. It will be good for you. He does not provide any materials for study and for exams as well and had a tough exam. If you want to score good, you have to be a puppet fr.
You can pass the class without going to lectures like all other classes. But highly recommend going to his. It will be difficult to understand some things due to him going in too in depth. However, this is also a very hard class. BEAUTIFUL HANDWRITING. His office hours are flexible and he will help you until you understand why and how. amazing prof
