very strict and rude
Very clear and helpful. Will answer any question and grades test with curves.Watch out for the only paper you have to turn in.Your class grade is based on 4 test and the paper but if you read the book of notes that he hands out you'll be fine.Don't bother to buy the book.He never uses it.Nice Guy.
Easy class for me but for others it may be difficult. He speaks like a philosopher - but then again that is what he teaches!
tests are very hard and he gives no extra credit and his jokes are lame.
THIS CLASS IS REALLY HARD! THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN PASS IS IF YOU HAVE THE TIME TO READ ALL THE NOTES!THE TEST ARE SO DAMM HARD TOO!DROP IT!!!!!!!!!!!1
his material is well detailed and his classes are very interesting if you like philosophy...
This professor is good,he is fair,if you study the handouts you'll pass all the tests,he makes the class interesting,THIS IS NOT A CLASS FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T EVEN BOTHER TO LOOK AT THE MATERIAL, he grades on a curve,he is good, the book is mild reading he will point what to read in the book.do this you'll get a good grade.
this class was one of the ahrdest classes i ever took. the problem is he is a philosopher!!!!! he expects everyone else to be philosophers as well. but the truth is that he is as helpful as he could be. and he is very clear and his class is interesting and it does make you think and there will be some very good discussions in class.
He is a very passionate teacher who will explain to you thoroughly whatever you don't understand.
Great teacher. Explains everything until you inderstand...somewhat. Hey wtf its Philosophy!
Maybe because I didn't apply myself, but this class was extremely BORING!!! I had to pinch my eyelids to stay awake. My class was always dark, because of his pwoerpoints, which made it even more comfortable to sleep in! Speaks like a philospher. Tests are hard...and oh yeah..HE'S NOT VERY CLEAR..HE IS ALWAYS RIGHT, NO MATTER WHAT.DROP THE CLASS!
the material is hard but he explains it pretty good. Test are hard though but its an okay class to take.
This guy can't teach...he tries too hard to be all "philosophical" and "deep" and whatever, and he only ends up confusing both the class and HIMSELF, though I'm sure he'd never admit it. He's an extremely arrogant person. "I went to Stanford..." give me a break...
WTF DO U MEAN HARD??? you ppl are idiots!!! this guy is easier than your mom on a saturday night!! All u have to do is pay slight attention in class and read the hand outs. It does irritate me that he wears the same thing everyday, but other wise its all good
Very stale, jokes are about as dry as day old toast, and needs to get looser pants. Mcphee blends the world of philosophy with the world of I rather make love to a goat then learn this stuff. Seems to supposedly know everything.. " I went to Stanford." Pllleeaaseeeeeee!. Plenty of notes to keep you studying till your doctorates. So if you like an overload of useless work, Then go ahead and take his class.
material is fairly easy if you read the notes. However makes the class as interesting as watching turtles have sex. I've never had the life energy dragged out of me so fast by the voice of another human being. Also a bit arrogant like his vast education is superior to your inferiotity or some**** like that. But fairly easy class overall. And yes, he has like 100 sets of the same shirt and pants. The McPhee Suit. lol
Makes the class very boring and does not explain stuff too good. He talks too much and even turns off the lights for the overhear projector which is on all the time so make poeple sleepy. Tests are confusing... but he gave extra credit oportunity.
Class is not really hard as long as you study his lecture notes. Does everything with powerpoint & everything he lectures on is exactly on the test. However, he is very confusing, and think hes always right. He will argue with you about something even if its right in his face. Was very rude to me when I went to speak with him about a paper.
He's open minded. He makes you think how the philosopher taught during their time. He clarifies all doubts that you may have or with our world now. Yes it might have been difficult but I got an B in his class. You have to see beyond what you see now, everyone might critic who he is, but until your in his class you might think differently.
Prof. McPhee is an amazing orator. He's funny and is really into his work. He's also Department Chair. That being said, I think that you have to have a special kind of kindredship to philosophy in order to enjoy his class. My problem was that I had the class once a week. You should really try to take it TR or MW, or even MWF.
Great Professor. He does not make the class boring. You will enjoy this Philosophy class better than any other.
good teacher.. pretty easy class just take little notes and read handouts. very easy on grading papers. wouldnt mind taking another class with him.
This professor is the WORST. He assigns an ESSAY, and uses a system which ISN'T accurate to check for plagiarism..if your paper is considered plagiarized, he doesnt even read it, he gives you 3 options 1. Drop the class 2. He drops you from the class or 3. You have the option to do a paper "not to replace your F" but to give you a C average! HORRIB
I do not recommend this professor, one he makes you write essays and depending on a webpage then he will grade it. For his class you buy a book because the school requires it; however, this professor will contradict everything about the book and then quiz you on the book. OHH please do not go to his office hours ?He is very mean and rude, it?s lik
Great teacher, no need to buy book. powerpoint and lectures. 3 essays and 4 tests. If you study for tests and do your essays you'll pass however if your not will to study don't take him or you'll have to drop the class.
GREAT PROFESSOR.. PEOPLE COMPLAIN BECAUSE HE USES TURNITIN.COM WHICH IS A ACCURATE WEBSITE MANY CLASSES USES IT. EASY CLASS YOU JUST NEED TO STUDY. DON'T LISTEN TO THIS NEGATIVE COMMENTS MR.McPHEE IS GREAT...I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM TO ANY ONE THAT IS THINKING ABOU TAKING THIS COURSE
GRET PROFESSOR.. I READ THIS COMMENTS BEFORE I REGISTER FOR HIS CLASS I ALMOST DIN'T REGISTER BECAUSE OF WHAT I READ. SO LISTEN TO ME THIS PROF. IS GREAT.. EASY CLASS DON'T TRY TO BEAT THE SYSTEM TURNITIN.COM IS NO JOKE. DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO AND YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM WILL PASS WITH FLYING COLORS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR.. TAKE HIM..
hes an OK prof. its an easy A. study for the tests, and do ur papers and the discussions. class can be boring at times, but hey, its philosophy.....
Good slack class. you will learn. even better since everything is on angel: 3 biogrphies/ message post/ some philosophy ceremonies to attend. he is a funny guy, very understanding-kinda corny. he brought us donuts! lol good class. easy. you will learn & textbook not used.
I must admit, this was not the type of class I was expecting. I thought it would be more fun and interactive; class discussions, debates. This guy puts on powerpoints and just talks the whole class! I feel like Charlie Brown when he's at school and his teacher sounds like "wah wah wah wah". BORING. He's a dork. Dont take this class
professor mcphee does a great job in making critical thinking interesting and fun with the angel webpage and online postings and discussions both in class and online. you do need to study but he is very clear on what he will use on his exams. TAKE HIM FOR CRITICAL THINKING
I thought philosophy is supposed to help one think? This teacher does NOT use his brain! When you ask him something, he looks at you with a blank stare. He thinks he is always right, not sensitive at all. There are a few screws missing from his brain. Does not follow office hours and does not attend student visits. MDC should have better teachers!!
He is very passionate about his material but personal i found the class boring. no textbook needed everything is on the angel website. as long as you read the notes on line and study a bit you won't have trouble passing this class.
Not all of his lectures were clear. Many things that were on test were not on study guides.
This is the worst professor I have had at Miami Dade. He does not know how to teach. He is really rude to his students. He has no respect for his students and their learning.
Excellent teching technique for the course. This was my first philosophy class but I compared it a bit to ethics class and I must say that Prof. McPhee is good at teaching philosophy. Great explanations and examples but I'd recommend to take the class at least twice a week. Otherwise you get lost.
People professor Mcphee is awesome the guy does everything possible for you to pass. people don't turn in their essays and don't turn in their post on time and then man either lets re-do your paper if you do bad or lets you turn them in late come on ? what more can you want and no text book. I got an A.
I loved this guy! The class is easy if you show up, pay attention and read the powerpoints on the website. He gives you so many breaks to re-do assignments and get extra credit. A lot of people just don't do the work and then wonder why they failed. I got an A, it was so easy! You don't have to buy the book either, everything is online.
Worst professor ever! Please don't take this professor! He's class is so confusing! He doesn't know how to teach. Though his tests are open notes, trust me they won;t be easy. He uses ANGEL for everything, and I do not understand how he averages all work, my grade did not make sense. When i tried speaking with him he was rude and not helpful.
I loved McPhee! Great teacher, concerned with your progress, helpful and funny. The tests are pretty much what is on the powerpoint and everything is on Angel so your grades are posted online. People that sat in the back were always complaining and they did badly because they were lazy. I got an A.
i had him for a mini term i ended up with a C. really picky grader he's an okay teacher but i was confuse half the time. you can use your notes for test but you better be able to take really good notes. just read the power points a couple of times and your notes and you'll be fine.
Talks A LOT! Class can be confusing. The papers are easy and his tests are based off his lectures and power points. The subject itself is boring. He gets really into his lectures and is always in a good mood. Overall if you can the class was do able, but requires effort when it comes to tests. Not an easy A but more like a some what effort B.
Tests are based on power points, not a book. He is very passionate about his lectures. Tests are a bit cofusing, not easy.
He makes the student use a smallbook, 50 pages long that you have to do 2 Gordon Rule Assignments on. What I did: go the last half time of class & study the notes on Angel the day before the test, you can get an a this way.
explains everything on powerpoint presentations, tests are open book and work is all on Angel website. he can sometimes make tricky questions but the overall exams are easy. picky grader tho for the discussions part..i still passed with an A for summer term. just study your packet of notes!
Study and you will pass.Pleasant professor, answers questions.Passion for philosophy.
This professor is very inspiring. You will learn a lot. He is motivated and the class is interesting. He will give you plenty of chances to pass the class. You will learn about history of philosophy. You alsohave the chance to learn about how to think..!! Thank you professor McPhe..!!!!
Professor was great, philosophy is hard subject overall, but it's interesting and it makes you think in ways that you can't imagine. He makes the class fun, and has a total of 4 exams no midterm or final. You also need to turn in 3 essays that are fairly easy. You will not be the same person after you take this class (good way) I got an A+
this guy is the bomb and has a really positive attitude. most of the time you will have no idea what you are learning... as long as you pay attention you'll understand some of it. this is not an easy class and the tests are HARD even if you do study. but with my essay and extra credit i moved my grade from an B to an A.
Great professor. He is very helpful and always in a positive mood. offers tons of extra credit. the tests are multiple choice and very fair. everything is in the notes which are available on Angel. study his notes and power points and you are sure to pass. no need to buy any books. Highly recommend.
Grades harshly and lectures make no sense if you get stuck with this stick with the online book and ignore everything he says also he dose not explain the writing assiments clearly so most the class maid mistakes
He is SO funny! Class is never boring and he's very interactive. There's only tests which he gives you a pretty straightforward review of it AND lets you take an index card full of ALL your notes on it when you take the test. Write small and you have all the info you need. There's no way you should fail if you do that. Super helpful and awesome!
Super Nice and Fair Prof. However nobody would pass this class if he didnt let you use a index card on test. Way to much info for intro class. You can pass it w good grade but you must apply urself
I loved his class. I struggled on studying because of work, but he made it easy. Review the notes he provides and you will be more than fine.
Great professor. He seems to love what he does and is knowledgeable. He loves to talk philosophy. Gordon rule required 8 page essay on 3 chapters in the book. Four 45 queston computerized multiple choice tests. You are allowed an index note card for each test. Intensive for a 6 week class. I would choose him again if I were continuing philosophy.
I was very interested in taking this class, read all the ratings in here and took him.I got an A, but his class is really hard. his PPT are all over the place. What ever he talks in class I took notes and the test are completely different from what he teaches.I don't recommend taking him.His jokes are not funny!BoRiNg!!!
One of the greatest professors I've ever taken! His exams are easy and critical thinking based so you must understand the material and comprehend what the question is asking from you. A fun class; 2 online quizzes for each section(easy), 4 exams (must study), 6 page minimum paper, and provides extra credit. Overall, he's witty and makes time fly.
Class consists of an 8 page essay (you need the book for this only), 4 exams (2 online quizzes that help) & some additional extra credit to help you pass. Class is not hard but you do need to study in order to pass. Professor is very funny & interesting & he knows how to catch & keep your attention. Would definitely recommend. He rounds up your scores to improve your grade. Passed with an A:)
Great Professor. He's to the point and answers questions. He is very excited about Philosophy, which is a great way to help you learn it. The paper is the biggest thing you'll have to complete, and he helps you along with that as well.
Mr. Mcphee is a nice and caring teacher. He is extremely intelligent and educated. He is always happy and hyper. His lectures and class changed my life. I am now aware of my thoughts and how they function. I also now use my reason and logic. It felt like we traveled back in time to the time of the philosophers when he would begin to speak. Amazing!
Test can be hard but if you study you will pass. I almost failed but he helped me pass. So A+ for this guy right here.
I love this guy. His teaching style is very flexible and he will respect your opinion on the philosophy discussed. You can tell that he is very excited to be teaching; he clearly loves his job. He's very good with breaking down complex philosophical concepts to everyday analogies, often in hilarious ways. I would take again any time.
This professor is interactive with the class, so be ready to talk in class. If you study, its an easy A. I liked the class overall. He is nice and helpful if you do not understand the material. He wants his students to do well. He is also funny!
Good Professor, expect some quizzes online and 4 exams in the computer courtyard. The final is a little tough, just study. Everything that is on the quizzes and exams are on his lectures and power points. He gives extra credit and attendance is mandatory.
I never saw him in a bad mood! HE IS ALWAYS HAPPY!! Excellent professor. The tests are easy, he lets you take some notes for the test! Take him, classes are interesting. The only tough thing is a 8 papers project at the beginning of the semester. But, you can do it.
He is amazing, I strongly suggest taking his class. There is a large essay due, but it is the only essay for the entire semester. He's very funny and exciting. I strongly suggest you take this class. He keeps you entertained at all times.
Not for those who are not good at complex thought. His test are based on the lectures but those are kinda of confusing for some. Not only do you need to know your philosophers and theories you need to know how to apply them real life.
Took this class in the summer and got an A. Had to take a bunch of notes and study from his powerpoints, which we have access to. Philosophy is boring but he is funny. Makes you work for it, but enjoyable. I recommend him.
Professor McPhee is very nice and very passionate about philosophy. He is very caring and gives 2 extra credits to help you pass. However, his tests are hard. You really have to study from everything he gives you in order to pass. His YouTube videos help a lot! Also, there's a very long mandatory essay. However, it's very duable.
Professor McPhee is very energetic and funny. His class is easy only if your read the notes which are easy to read as well. The lectures he presented were fun and very informative. Everything is set on blackboard. The class consist of 4 test, quizzes and a 7 page essay which is the only essay he requires the whole class to do.
The lectures he gives are really dry and boring. Unfortunately, his tests are incredibly hard, but at least he lets you use a note card. Make sure to do the extra credit, it will save your life.
4 unit exams. 8 quizzes (online and have 4 chances for each quiz). 1 long essay in the beginning of the semester. Lectures are quite boring, but the class is very do-able.
This professor is amazing, he goes over everything that will be on the tests. He will also give you online quizzes before every test that has most of the questions that will be on the tests. Tests are computer based and quizzes are through blackboard. But lecture is very important, he will go over the power point he creates for class.
Funny teacher, interacts with students, the material isn't hard to learn, take notes from ppt and blackboard. he has one "big" essay which is really 3 short essays bunched together, its easier than it sounds. homework: study and essay. he has quizzes online to help you before the test. He also allows a flashcard for test. He's pretty chill.
Professor McPhee is a phenomenal instructor and I had the pleasure of being his student for Summer A. He is very caring, approachable, and gives extra credit opportunities if you need it! Blackboard notes are your savior for the exams and his lectures are crucial in understanding the material. His tests are NOT hard, you just have to study!
Professor McPhee is hilarious, caring, and inspirational. He knows what he's talking about. I took his class after taking a gap year and I was inspired and motivated to learn as much as I could about everything. I definitely recommend him. Real down to earth guy.
He claims his style of teaching is not typical, which can make it hard to understand especially if the topic is philosophy. Online quizzes need to be taken throughout the semester, the only good thing about his tests are the notecard cheat sheets he lets us use, even with that I would get a C. Difficult to understand, watch out for the Nagel Paper.
he is an interesting guy, using blackboard for everything, 4 test , 8 quizzes online there all on quizlet, lets you use flashcard during test, class can be borning yet intriguing. maybe i would take him again, he can be funny at some time, must engage yourself for credit.
8 quizzes, 4 test, an 8 page essay (3 mini essays combined into one. Don't get scared it's easier than you think) LOTS of extra credit. His lectures are a bit long and boring but if you participate the class goes by quick. He has a great attitude and is energetic. As long as you communicate with him, he will help you out with whatever.
This professor was great honestly as long as you do what you are told you will pass, you have a research paper to write, 4 exams and 2 quizzes per module. He lets you use some notes to help you with the exams, i would recommend anyday.
EASY A. I took this class online and honestly it was a breeze. You must do your work though. I thought it was pretty awesome that he let us make up any assgnt. of our choice. The final was 4 questions. Please take him you will not regret it!!
He teaches with such energy, which is good! But his lectures are hard too understand and will cost you dearly.
Professor McPhee ALWAYS approaches lectures with a lot of energy, and his grading is very clear. He goes the extra mile and posts online lecture videos that gives all the information that will be on the tests. He is always very understanding of unexpected circumstances that affect his students, he will work with you as long as you make an effort.
Best PHI prof. Real bright guy. A term paper based on 3 chapter. 4 tests that you can use an index card(write all the powerpoint on it lol). And a few online quizzes(quizlet). The tests are easy and the quizzes. The paper is the only thing to worry about, just get that over with and then you are set for the class. He doesnt like to fail students
Professor McPhee is extremely good at what he does, that being said philosophy is a hard subject to teach. He is however, able to bring a fun energy to the classroom and is willingly to work with you to help you pass. The exams are difficult but tend to have a curve which helps, and if you do well on the Nagel essay and quizzes youll be fine.
Professor McPhee is awesome and can seem a little strange but is really trying hard to say things in a way for everyone to understand. He makes videos of his lectures absolutely watch them I passed my final with an A after listening to every video.
Easy A. You don't even need to take notes. He explains the material in an easy way for the students to understand.
This is the worst professor I have ever taken. He doesn't care about his students. He thinks everyone is plagiarizing. He's very unreasonable and does not treat his students with respect.
This professor really cares about his students. He replies to the emails if not same day , next day. Get ready to read. Final is proctored and there was no midterm.
Very good online prof. He replies to any questions & sends emails with reminders & recommendations on how to do better. No complaints at all! Yes, U must read & yes, it's not super easy. But he's not a tough grader & if U bother to listen to his tips on how to pass his essays & HW there's no reason not to get an A. I got 100% on all assignments!
He truly pours his heart and soul into what he does, Professor McPhee makes lessons fun, despite it being a 3 hour class. Instructions were clear, many opportunities to pass the class were given, extra credits, very easy to talk to. Always in a great mood, 10/10 would take again
Lectures rather quickly, doesn't take time to full elaborate.
Not clear in teaching the lessons. Ask him questions he does not know how to answer them. He tells you that your feelings and what you think are irrelevant in front of the whole class. Hard to meet his rubric, mandatory paper to pass the class. Complicated exams, Not one good way to study. BORING LECTURES - Death by powerpoint. Heavy accent.
McPhee is a fantastic professor, quite a character, very knowledgeable of the material. He gives you all the tools to succeed plus countless assignments for extra credit. He gives you all learning objectives/power points on blackboard and you only have quizzes and tests as your graded assignments. Index card on tests. If you put in the work, easy A
4 tests and 1 paper, each worth 18%. So there goes 90% of your grade. Attendance counts 5% and quizzes 5%. Tests are a bit tricky but EVERYTHING THAT GOES ON THE TEST IS LITERALLY ON HIS POWERPOINTS!!! He also lets you use flashcards on the test!! And the paper is based on 3 chapters of a book (dont panic, the chapters combined are about 20 pages)
Great stage presence much better than dua lipa's but not as great as Madonna's of course. Very passionate about his work. Conducts 4 tests throughout and 1 mandatory paper. Actually listen when he talks about the paper rather than being surprised that there's a goran rule paper due a day before its due. Study the tests and you won't fail. Trust.
He is very funny and he makes the class content very clear. He is very friendly and works well with his students. His class is not hard to pass, just do the work correctly. He is not a tough grader.
Professor McPhee is an interesting and funny guy. The classwork consisted of 2 quizzes and a test per chapter (4 Chapters in total). He goes in depth with his lectures and his power points are very helpful when studying. You have to do a mandatory 8 page essay on Thomas Negal but he gives you lots of time to work on it and even lets you revise it!
Professor Mcphee is a great professor. You need to show up to pass, supper easy. I took him for Summer B mini term. 8 small quizes, 4 test and 1 long essay. He gives extra credit. Would I take him again... Yes but not for 3 hours long. If you want an easy A, take him for a longer term like Summer C. AND TAKE NOTES, it will help a lot.
Excellent Professor and quite a character, he makes the content extremely clear and in a digestible way. Gives you all the tools to succeed, all you have to do is do the work. Power point based lectures that you can use to study for the exams, content is very clear and there are no curve balls or unexpected questions. Makes you enjoy Philosophy!
I took McPhee a couple years ago when I decided to start going to college. He is the reason why I'm a philosophy major.
Great professor, highly recommended.
Professor Mcphee truly is one of the best professors ive ever taken he loves philosophy and he cares for his students to pass. quiz are online test are a little hard you need to study or you wont pass. 1 important paper seems harder than it is. i did mine in one day and still got an A . I would take his class again
Philosophy can get a little boring but this teacher lectures and makes it funny! He wants his class to pass and even lets you use an index card full of notes to help you out on tests. No homework. Just 4 multiple choice tests and a philosophical paper. The paper is long but its about a super short book and literally just write what you believe.
I will never forget my first day of class with this professor. He is so funny. He is a true philosopher and very passionate. His class can be easily passed. I loved it. One of the best professors and one of my favorite professors I have taken.
Study and you'll be fine. Anything that is going to be on the test is in the review videos and texts that he posts. There are 4 tests and a research paper (plus an optional biography for extra credit). Attendance is mandatory. I recommend taking him for a longer period, like summer C. The lectures are long.
Amazing professor! Take him. The class is not hard, and he allows the use of a flashcard for the exams. Do the extra credit paper! It is worth so much. His class was super interesting.
P. McPhee isn't good & is a tough grader. He also doesn't try to help u pass this class. I took this class online & had an emergency while I was taking the test & failed it, I emailed him about what happened maybe considering on letting me retake it & he said yes! a few weeks passed and he said no I changed his mind. I got upset for that dont take!
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! the class is interesting but hes not good at helping students pass and is sometimes he's very rude.
His exams are very difficult and does not try to help students pass the class. He also is really bad at responding to emails. My advice is not to take him!!!
dont take this class with professor McPhee. His tests are super difficult and he doesn't care for his students.
Nice professor and really easy assignments but he does take long to grade and catch up. 3 essays the whole course but there are journals and quizzes every weekend. overall would recommend if needing an extra boost in your GPA. Mandatory final that is 5% of your grade.
Very unorganized. He doesn't grade on time - so your not sure your writings are what he's looking for. Gives due dates but then deducted points for turning it in on the due date. So nowhere states papers need to be turned in 2 days before the dues date. Why have a due date? I waited the entire semester for more than half of my grades. Skip him!
Professor McPhee was a good professor. He really cares about his students and will do his best to keep you updated so you can pass the course. His class is lecture heavy and the test are difficult if you dont study. Also, you have one essay (Gordon Rule), 10 pages, and if you fail you fail the class. Difficult but doable if youre willing to study
You have 4 chapters the whole course, two quizzes and one proctored test per chapter. Attendance is mandatory otherwise he will drop u from the class. You also have one mandatory paper and some extra credits.
Very unorganized. He doesn't grade on time - so you're not sure your papers are in line with his grading criteria. I spoke up in class against his first test because prior to the exam he had flip flopped his answers on whether or not we could have a notecard during the exam and the one time we could he said we couldn't. I do not recommend his class
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! He is a really cool but if you take his class you are going to struggle. these reviews are legit. I read them before taking him but I took him anyway, I regretted my decision. All his exams are proctored. He has a required essay(10pages) for the course, half of the class failed the paper. Think twice before taking him.
This professor is very rude. I'm in the access program and he doesn't understand that I'm an access program and he doesn't give me extra time on none of his work.
I wont take this lecturer again! This class that should be enjoyable is so test heavy and difficult. The actual philosophy was 5% of our grade He put these 4 difficult cram work tests as 70% of the final grade and guess what? the tests are proctored! And he talks too much. Funny part is what he blabs about don't come out in the test. No xtra credit
If you're genuinely interested in philosophy, I think you would like the class and the professor. The homework and quizzes are easy, but the tests are 70% of your grade. Attendance is mandatory and having your camera on is also graded. I personally enjoyed the class and the professor.
He gives a lot of journals and gives exams based on the lectures so pay attention overall he is a good professor!!
I was in his class for no longer than 3 weeks because he was absolutely unfair and rude when it came to grading. The entire class failed the first exam and he had to curve everyone's grade because the content that he gave on the study guide was absolutely nothing like the things on the exam. He is the absolute worst, would rate -100/10 if I could.
As others have mentioned on their reviews, this professor takes a very long time to grade assignments. He won't help pass the class or give positive feedback, only feedback he gives is negative. He will give you a hard time with every assignment and grade them very late at the end of the semester. I wouldn't recommend taking a class with him.
Mcphee was not rude to our class whatsoever, obviously when you are in a philosophy class there will be much debate and often times people will disagree with each other, so just speak your own truth even if you know someone will tell you you're wrong. The exams are difficult but he curved all of them for the entire class and the homework was light.
Tough grader, but the class is doable if you stay on top of the work. Exams are challenging, but the professor curves them. Unstuck study helped me prepare for the tests. Overall, not a bad class if you're interested in philosophy.
The grades consisted of 4 papers, 4 quizzes, and 4 exams. One paper, one quizz, and one exam for each unit within the class: Ethics, Metaphilosophy, Metaphysics, and Epistemology (in order). The modality of the class was blended, and the exams were online (with Lockdown browser + webcam). Watch his videos and you'll be fine. He's a good professor.
I took him for logic and all I can say is he just gives you a packet expecting you to know the material all by yourself, while also depending on the class to carry him in lectures. He babbles a lot and is not very constructive with his feedback AT ALL. He will just stammer awkwardly and just says "You're wrong. I don't know what you did here."
Poor communication, inconsistent grading, and passive-aggressive responses to concerns. Promised a curve for effort on Exam 4, then contradicted himself. Felt misleading and dismissive. Be ready to self-teach as he offers little support or clarity.
Class is fairly easy, grading is weird 4 tests make up 78% of your grade and are assigned at random times (usually Sat), can be annoying. Most of the class is lectures, and everything else is done online. There are journals, quizzes, and module tests. Grades slowly and by very few things, so your performance on those few assignments matters a lot.
Odd individual as a teacher. His class is very hard to pass as your final grade is 80% of your test score average. Attendance also heavily impacts your grade. You need at least a 70% on all the writing journals (4 in total) in order to even pass the class. If you get a 60% on a writing journal but a 90% average on the tests he will fail you.
