Dr. Salerno is very energetic. He is a great comp teacher, and easy to get along with. He grades very fairly, so it's not hard to make a good grade. He cares more about what you write about than format. Nothing to worry about.
Dr. Salerno is one of the best teachers I've had at Auburn. Makes things very interesting early in the morning. He's a fair grader and cares about what you write and how you analyze things more than grammar, spelling, format, etc. Has pop quizzes but only count 5% of grade and are easy if you read. Take him if you can!

Dr. Salerno is a very energetinc interesting teacher but he covers way too much information for one semester. Everything was jam packed to fit it in, then when the final came, you couldn't possibly review it all. Also required to buy NA plus two more books plus print off TONS from internet, uses lots of ink! Tests are pretty intense.
He's ok. I was basically pissed off by the fact that the quizzes are worth %10 of your grade. They are by no means "pop" quizzes. He gives them every 3 classes on the reading of the day. I made a B in the class because I had like a 5/10 on quiz averages. The essays are easy. Got an 88 and 90 (last minute). Final and midterm is an esy B+. Take him..
He was very energetic. He gave pop quizzes. If you read they generally were not to bad. I came out with an A. He wasn't the easiest teacher I've ever had, but he was very fun and really a sweet guy. I would take him again if I needed anymore Lit classes.
Hes a little odd, but a good teacher. Doesnt grade papers to harshly. Midterm and Final, 2 papers, a creative writing in class assignment and quizs. Its not bad at all just alot of reading.
He's awesome. I normally don't like to discuss in class, but his discussions are very intriguing and keep you interested. HIs class goes by faster than any of my other classes. He picks interesting works to read, but it can take a couple hours to read it before class. He focuses on overall themes and abstract concepts more than concrete plots.
Nice enough guy, but his grading is rather skewed. In class discussion he's very open to other ideas, but if you don't write what he wants to hear in papers, he finds obscure reasons to take off points. I'd take a different teacher if I could do it again. First B I've ever gotten in English.
Dr. Salerno is a great guy that really wants you to be better at writing. Funny guy, interesting classes, and helps out ALOT. The only downfall is extremely difficult papers to write but he is a lenient grader in the end.
He is a very energetic teacher. You can fail all his in class quizzes and if you make B's on your papers you will have a B. Reading before class not important, dont waste hours.
Pretty easy, but for me the class went by quite slow. It can get really boring at times. There's lots of readings, but they're easy and short.
Very nervous, awkward guy. The readings he assigned were very long and boring. I love English and it has always been my strong suit, but I hated this class. Grading is very fair. Class begins on time and you will NEVER get out a MINUTE early. I was never interested in class discussion. He is a nice man and means well, but I would not recommend him.
Prof. Salerno always seemed a pace or two ahead of us but always in a good temper. He understood that all of us weren't English majors so he forgave all of us who needed work on our grammar. I've always been bad at writing and shall probably be bad again but I learned that if a thing's worth at all, it's worth doing well from Prof. Salerno.
Dr. Salerno is a great teacher. He is always in a great mood. He is very helpful when it comes to feedback on your papers. He is very passionate about English, but understands that not all of us are. Homework is very doable. I would recommend this class to anyone!
4 Papers and grades fairly difficult. Easy if you give effort to get a B but needs to be very good to get an A. Go the first 2 weeks so he knows your face then go at least once a week and check blackbord for quizzes. Read the assignments for quizzes. Easy B, work hard and get an A. Nice guy.
It's clear Dr. Salerno is very passionate about his job, and wants his students to succeed. Papers count for most of your grades which are easy to make B's on. Readings are frequent along w/ pop quizzes at the beginning of the semester. Great teacher!!
Dr. Salerno is so passionate about his job. He brings enthusiasm to everything. He is more than willing to help you with your papers. He lets you choose your own topic and doesn't give you a required thesis like another teacher at AU does. His class is fun and is a wonderful learning environment.
He is a great Professor and very energetic and optimistic! He is generous when it comes to grades and extremely helpful. I got an A with a small amount of effort.
Requires alot of work, but is relatively easy on grading. Requires attendence or knocks your final grade and has pop quizes that are worth 10% of the final. 3 papers and 2 tests for the many difference works you will read. Doesnt do well known works for the most part. Odds are you wont have heard of most of them, but likely have heard of the author
Dr. Salerno is a fantastic teacher with plenty of energy to go around. He make sure you read the texts for Lit with quizzes. He doesn't grade too harshly, but expects you to put in work. I took him for World Lit I and II. Everyone should take him.
Dr. Salerno was terrible for Brit Lit. He assigned the worst and most boring stories and expect you to pull random elements from it for the midterm and final.Attendance is mandatory and the quizzes are ricky. Don't take him
He isn't very easy as many people say he is. He gives everyone a B on their first paper. He gives a 95 on all peer reviews and libraries which is his baseline but will still hurt your grade no matter what. He gives pop quizzes and makes you read a lot. I would suggest picking another teacher if at all possible.
Reading quizzes every 3 days or so. Be prepared to write about what he wants to hear in papers... otherwise its a straight 80. essay prompts seemed fairly odd.. at least not something i'd pick. some stories are decent reads and other are from left field. nice guy though
The material and essay prompts are all easy, he's just a tough grader. He never gives full credit- the highest you can get is a 95/100 on anything. Papers are easy to get Bs on, but it's really hard to get As. He gives good feedback on all of the papers and The final was super easy. Very energetic and eager to help.
He is a really nice guy and cares about his job. Very energetic for a 9am. Very hard to get an A. The highest grade he will give is a 95, even on completion activities. Super easy to get a B though. Make sure you read the reading assignment because he gives reading quizzes weekly.
He's a nice guy and tries his best to make the material fun, but the readings he doles out are absolutely terrible. I have a B+ at the moment, and with a little extra effort I could make an A, but most of my class can hardly bring ourselves to read (which is a must, unfortunately). He springs quizzes on you randomly, so don't miss class.
Honestly, the WORST class I have ever taken. did not like the material, how much of it there was, and especially the instructor. gotta take someone else if you can. freaking nightmare...
Way too much work for a two thousand level class. The reading assignments are long and boring. Take BRIT LIT past 1789
Assigns a LOT of obscure readings and the pop quizzes are difficult. He is really enthusiastic, especially at 8am, and he expects it from you too. Three papers, two were 2 pages, one was 4. He doesn't give higher than a 95 and lower than a 70 on anything, however, so if you want an A or a D, you've got to work for it. If you love to read, take it.
There's good news and bad news for this guy. The good news is that he's a very nice, energetic guy who keeps you interested in class because he's so hyper. However, the bad news is that he expects the MOST out of your writing and he's a very strict grader. Didn't get an A on any essays. Highest grade I got was an 85. Ended the year with a flat 80
If you don't like literature at all, I suggest not taking Salerno. I didn't find any problems with the amount of reading myself but others did. He does assign papers but I had him read my first drafts and he gave me great feedback and told me what I could change. He's very enthusiastic about literature which I liked.
I really wish I had tried harder in his Brit Lit class and I would have gotten an A. Actually do your readings, because there are pop quizzes but a lot of the readings are actually pretty interesting. Only two short papers, and then a longer one at the end or you can choose to pick a creative project. He's an energetic guy!
I really enjoyed Dr. Salerno's class. He really knows the material and is passionate about it as well. You must show up to class. He usually gives quizzes over the readings, so you have to do the readings! It's kind of hard to get an A on his papers too. I made high Bs on both of mine. Also, it pays off to participate and speak up in class.
The reading Dr. Salerno picks is amazing. I liked almost everything that we read. The tests are easy. He likes when your papers have an original idea so don't write about things you discuss in class. You can choose a creative option for one of your papers. He gives a participation grade which helps if you are borderline.
I am someone who does not like writing. It is a essay based class, however you only write 3 essays. He is a very interesting and upbeat professor. We had lots of pop quizzes on homework readings. He gives plenty of help with how the essay is supposed to be written. His feedback was also very helpful before, during, and after each essay.
The only grades are papers and participation in class, which would be fine except getting an A on a paper is super rare. Only take if you are already a great writer as he doesnt really work with you to improve your skill
He's a great guy, I didn't read a single assigned reading for homework and still managed to get a B. He's very generous with grading and cares about the students' success. Also, for one of the essays for the semester he allows it to be a creative project instead of a boring typed report which was a definite grade booster. Highly recommend him.
He's a quirky, caring guy that loves his job. I personally love writing essays, and I usually got a low A or high B on my papers- he always has a lot of feedback and can be a tough grader. He has pop quizzes on the readings and takes attendance. He loves class interaction so do what you can to participate and you will end up with an A.
Nice guy- does care about his students. He LOVES pop quizzes and is often tricky in his word choice. I often found myself still bombing the quizzes even after reading. He is a stickler for attendance and won't really work with you if you're sick. Nice guy, tons of work. I didn't love the class but he isn't a terrible professor just be ready to read
Very great teacher, energetic and good at English. "pop quizzes" are really just on the readings an almost every time. Grades pretty good, I got the same grade on every paper. If you go to class and participate the lowest you will get is a B probably unless you're just really really bad at writing papers. Also there isnt a final exam or any tests.
Definitely suggest taking this teacher. All literature teachers/classes are tough, but if you are going to take a literature class take this one. He only assigns 3 maybe 4 papers and the midterm and final are not bad. His in class layout is all discussion based with a few group in class days. No written tests. He gives extra credit. Very good teach
Really hard to make an A. His topics for papers are very confusing. Comments about papers subjective so its difficult got what he wants from you.
Dr. Salerno cares a lot about writing. He is a tough grader but is very helpful at office hours. If you put in the work and go to his office hours, you'll get an A.
What an incredible teacher! The subject matter is tough and very boring, but he definitely makes it come alive, such a lively teacher! there are quite a few pop quizzes and he does grade on participation. If I were an english major or had to take more classes I would love to take a class with him again! Try to be in one of his classes!
reading quizzes killed my grade and you are graded on three short writings and three major essays. he isn't very clear about what he is grading on and I normally do well in English but didn't in this class
Salerno is relatively easy, he doesnt require attendance but gives extra credit for it. The tests a practically straight from his slides (which are boring as well as the lectures) that he posts online, but all tests are also only 25 questions so to get an A you can only get 2 wrong. Dont get the textbook
Salerno likes for class to be driven by student discussion, so every class really forces you to pay attention. There is always reading, but Salerno is fair and does not over-assign. He gives great feedback on essays and is always willing to hear your interpretation of the works you will be reading.
Dr. Salerno is an incredibly passionate man who loves what he does. That being said, he assumes that everyone sees the nuances, symbolism, themes, and whatever else is in literature. His essay prompts are very vague, along with his feedback. My classmates who are good at literature loved him, but if it isn't your thing, maybe find another prof.
Salerno is very nice and very caring. Just read, he gives reading quizzes. He has interesting classes. Take notes on what is said in class- you will be thankful later on when midterm and finals roll around.
Salerno is so kind, engaging, and genuinely cares. He is tough, but he is so knowledgable and will make you better at analyzing literature! He grades papers difficultly, but reading and reading the spark notes (so you can understand what you read) is imperative. Take notes on the main themes, google main themes, and memorize those themes for exams!
he is a fine professor, I didn't love him, I didn't hate him. he is super odd though, so get used to his weird laugh and demeanor. texts are not difficult to understand, he just crams it all into a short time frame so it is easy to get behind. papers and midterm isn't too bad either, not very many assignments. just not the most enjoyable.
I took him as a freshman for English 1100 twice a week. He is passionate, entertaining, and caring. The first couple of papers you could turn in your rough draft for comments from him which are really helpful. Do take him and be respectful of him!
Honestly, this class is as difficult as you make it. If you do the reading, attend class, pay attention/write decent notes, and make an effort, you will do fine. I will say his exams are pretty rough as it is mostly just interpretations of what you read, not questions that have a distinct right/wrong answer. Overall, good professor/class.
Really interesting class, you can definitely tell he loves what he does. Not a big fan of english in general so really didn't read the books as much as I probably should have, but extremely lenient grader, everyone got A's and B's on exams and papers. Definitely would take him again.
The class is an easy B if you don't read. I consider myself a good writer, and when I felt I did a C job, I got a high B grade. There is a lot of reading, and if you just do the reading, you'll probably get an easy A if you are insightful. It's pretty easy and Dr. Salerno is very energetic and makes a boring class fun.
I loved Salerno's class. The reading quizzes can get you at times, so be sure to read the readings. He's a tough grader on essays so apply yourself. Do all the extra credit you can. Attendance matters be sure to go to class. Overall, we read some interesting pieces and he always kept class lively and upbeat. He is very passionate about this course.
Such a passionate person! Knowledgeable about the subject and provides for a very engaging class. You get what you put in, you HAVE to keep up with the reading to succeed. Can be a tough essay grader, but he'll help if you ask! Pop quizzes and extra credit opportunities too. You'll work for this class but he's such a great prof that you'll want to!
One of the best lit professors hands down! Super engaged with class and loved the material, which made class fun and enjoyable. You have to keep up with reading so you can understand the bigger picture stuff and pop quizzes, but hes always available for help on essays and offers a good bit of extra credit. Go to class, do the work, youll do well!
This is a general literature class that everyone at Auburn has to take but he must think we're all aspiring to get a PhD in literature. His grading is excessively strict and he expects you to read 100+ pages in a week. I thought that taking online Lit would be an easy A, but how wrong I was. Please avoid this man and this class.
The worst English professor I've ever had. Will nickel and dime you for everything. Prompts are unclear and difficult to understand. Avoid his class.
If you're considering switching majors or have a gifted talent in liberal arts, take this class. His expectations for a prerequisite core lit class are very high. I spent about 2 hours every class day just reading the required texts. Office hours don't do much.
Dr. Salerno was a pretty good professor. Generally I enjoyed the class but I didnt feel like I was learning a ton. It wasnt super difficult but as the class went on, he started grading things pretty hard. Hes a fair professor. Go to his office hours (hes a really nice person), make solid effort and you should be able to make As or Bs.
Dr. Salerno is actually a very nice man. He's super passionate about what he teaches but that makes it a bit more difficult. Lots of reading for British Lit, but he provided most of the texts. He gives reading quizzes that are difficult if you didn't read, but the papers weren't bad and the midterm and final were redemptive. A pretty solid choice.
I liked Professor Salerno. The reading is not easy but is reasonable. Usually 2-3 poems or about 100 pages of reading due each class if you're taking the Tues+Thurs classes(might be less if your MWF). "Pop" Quizzes that happen pretty much every Monday. Very easy class if you actually read and pay attention in class.
Sweetest teacher ever, he really does care about you and your grade. However, if you do not love to read and cannot read a lot in a couple of days maybe do not take his class. Reading every day and usually very long and hard to understand. Pop quizzes are every week and participation matters a lot.
Really loved his British Lit class. He really appreciates participation and assigns a good bit of homework, but the class itself is very interesting. You definitely have to do the reading, and I would recommend taking detailed annotations of the reading and general notes of class discussions. Very funny and incredibly smart professor.
Allen is a super jolly and happy man. I never knew someone could enjoy British Literature this much. That being said, I don't like reading or British Literature so it was a long semester. Expect a quiz weekly, 3 papers, a midterm and a final. Attendance Required.
Dr. Salerno is a great professor! He is very passionate and cares that his students understand the texts. Expect homework/reading due at the beginning of every class reinforced by occasional pop quizzes. As long as you read and pay attention class discussions, you should do well.
I had to take this class as a science major. I am not the best at English and I tried really hard in this class but he is a tough grader. I got a B on a big assignment because the pictures I drew weren't as good as others he recieved... that assignment took me at least 5 hours. Be ready for pop quizzes too for any reading assignment.
I personally would not take this professor again. I took his class because I needed the english credit. Usually english is easy for me and is one of my best grades. But with this professor it is one of my lowest grades when I am in other difficult classes. He gives long readings and hard pop quizzes. Also is hard grader.
There are readings for a lot of classes, and quite a few papers, but he was pretty easily my favorite professor for one semester due to the passion that he has for the subject, and the fact that he gives feedback on what you're working on at every possible turn. Very fun class.
Allen Salerno is a very enthusiastic and caring professor. His teachings are unusual and abstract and doesn't follow any curriculum I've done in the past. Such as not having a standard, structured thesis and putting a conclusion sentence at the beginning of a paragraph. He also talks in a very formal language.
As a STEM student, I highly recommend Dr. S. 3 essays (1 creative, like making a board game), midterm, final, and some pop quizzes on due reading (we had 10, he dropped lowest). Fair grader; going to office hours helped for essays. I liked his open discussions on readings--you could talk or not talk, it wasn't for a grade. Attendance mandatory.
On my first essay I was told my essay was great and received no negative feedback. I got an 85% and he was unable to provide an example of how I could have attained an A. Gives out very difficult pop quizzes with obscure questions you won't remember even if you did read. Has a very high pitched voice and is borderline impossible to listen to.
I'm not the best writer, but he gives so many useful tips on how to improve writing skills. He is sweet and patient. His reading quizzes can be a bit difficult, but if you reread the articles before the quiz you will be good to go. The articles he gives us to read are also interesting, so it makes reading less of a chore. He's always there to help.
Allen is a silly man who loves his job. harsh grader, tests are difficult, and the reading homework is basically every night. But he is not unreasonable and a good grade is hard but attainable if you show up to class, do the readings, and are able to understand the texts. i enjoyed most of the readings he gave us once i forced myself to read them
His voice is the worst thing ever. He talks like a cartoon character. So many readings about gay people. He gives good feedback, but even when you fix what he tells you to, you still get a low A on the assignment. Lectures are long, stupid, and boring. Pop quizzes are super hard, even if you do the reading. He's nice, but don't take him.
TAKE THIS CLASS. Dr. Salerno is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students. His work can be challenging at times, but if you approach him/attend office hours he will be sure to help you. Also he gives amazing feedback and helps build your confidence as a writer.
I'm a pre-med student and this is my lowest grade by far. I'm a very good writer and I work hard in all my classes, but that's not enough for this course. There's 3 essays and he grades hard even if you get his help. He gives no extra credit or score rounding at the end, and you have to talk every day in class to receive a good participation grade.
Professor Salerno is honestly great, no complaints. He really cares about the success of his students. He assigned many shorter but more frequent papers as well as short writing assignments before almost all essays. A lot of class readings in beginning through the middle of the semester and he does give pop reading quizzes so beware of that.
Avoid this course if you can. British Literature is just in general very boring. For both the mid-term and final you are required to be able to pull from each text and remember what is in the text itself as a whole. Lots of Activities are due and there are other things in the course such as pop quizzes, short essays, and long essays.
Do not take his Brit Lit class if you are just looking for an easy A. Theirs is a lot of reading and participation is graded for the discussion class on Fridays. However, he is a good professor, passionate about what he teaches. A good grade is attainable as long as you work for it. The midterm and final are long and require thoughtful answers.
He is a very tough grader, and is very confusing in dialect as far as what he expects out of an assignment.
Mandatory readings & pop quizzes on them with odd specific questions. Essays aren't bad if you start early, but the criteria is VERY strict and meticulous. Midterm requires you to recall 20+ texts very well with a mix of regular questions and a 2-page in-class essay. For a core literature class, the requirements far exceed what you'd expect. Avoid.
The class was not bad as he is a really nice and fun person so being in class was not bad at all. Wrote many essays which I did well on as he isn't that bad of a grader. What killed my grade was the pop quizzes he had without notice over the reading we did the night before. The quizzes had very minor details and were only 5 questions. Overall good
Tough grader with unclear guidlines. Getting a 100% or close for a essay is impossible as "why would you be taking this class you should be a professor". Usually one pop quiz a week, If you read the assigned reading they are easy. The final exam is ridiculous.
I honestly loved Dr. Salerno. His class was so fun every single time. He is always super clear on what to expect on tests. As long as you do the readings each time (which are never all that bad) you'll have a fine grade. The people who don't do well in his class don't read the assigned readings.
Dr. Salerno really cares about what he teaches. He is very passionate about each piece of writing which makes it much more interesting and engaging while in class. Participation matters and he awards extra credit to those who raise their hands.
Dr. Salerno is passionate about literature, and that makes his class so enjoyable. You must read, attendance is taken most classes, and the grading is not a cakewalk. You must have comprehensive knowledge of the readings to do well on the exams. If you truly enjoy the subject, you will love this class! If you are not a fan, this will be difficult.
Loved him. Attendance is mandatory, but he has optional draft days for peer reviewing, etc. Assigns readings for the next class. Will give pop quizzes, but only like 3 or 4. That's what will kill your grade so it's best to read. Goes over everything you need to know for the essays. If you had questions, he was right there to answer and help.
attendance is mandatory and you HAVE to read because the tests will have very specific questions. essays arent too bad but he makes you think hard. hes sassy and doesn't let anyone talk in lecture
Prof. Salerno is very passionate about the material which makes lectures way less boring. Mandatory attendance, 2 shorter essays, 1 longer, 150 word assignment weekly, a midterm, and a final. Required readings for every lecture but most aren't too bad. Essays can be hard if you're not good at them, but overall recommend for sure!
do not take this class if you need an easy english credit. attendance mandatory, tough grader, and tests are very in detail. out of every exam i am studying for this one is taking the most time. for this class to be a core credit for so many, he treats it as if everyone is an english major. avoid if you can, if not get ready to put in the work.
I learned more from my discussion class with my TA than with Dr. Salerno. He is extremely picky in his grading, but the essays are pretty straight forward. Your main assignments are your essays but I think he expects too much reading every day. Overall, he is decent but if you hate reading I do not recommend him.
There is mandatory attendance, two shorter essays, one longer essay, a 150-word weekly assignment, a midterm, and a final, but he is VERY nitpicky. Dr. Salerno is hard and makes an A very hard to obtain. i learned from my TA more than Dr. Salerno. LOTS of reading and you can't have notes for the midterm/final like other profs.
If you're passionate about literature Dr. Salerno is a good choice. Otherwise avoid if you can, way too much readings for a class that all students have to take for credit. Lectures are boring and essays are graded meticulously, the tests also suck (study all readings and powerpoints).
Attendance was mandatory and you only get 2 unexcused absences for the semester. He grades very meticulously even on the short writings.
Loved his class. Participate often and he will like you. Class gets boring but just pay attention and he will appreciate you. Graded off of pop quizzes and a four papers but gives feedback. Quizzes not hard just pay attention to reading and take a few general notes. Good communication online if you needed help! Loved him would take again.
Dr. Salerno was an amazing professor. His course was difficult at times but my writing and researching skills have improved significantly. Participation DOES matter. He docks your grade if you do not engage in discussions so be prepared to have something to say.
Dr. Salerno was such a difficult professor. He grades every paper very hard and gives pop quizzes as well. Attendance is mandatory but you get two unexcused absences. However, if you miss on a day he gives a pop quiz, it will tank your grade.
He was a decent professor but there were lots of readings and pop quizzes to go with it. The class was extremely boring and felt like the longest hour and 15 minutes of my life and participation is important in this class. He had a different style of writing but it's easy to understand what he is looking for and he also gives great feedback.
Lots of readings every week, random pop quizzes but overall not too bad. Three main papers that he gives ample time and instruction on, and he seems to really care about students and their success. Content is pretty boring but it's not really his fault. Very engaging in class and overall a really nice guy!!
He treats this class like you are all english majors. Readings for every single class and they aren't short. You will have random pop quizzes on the readings too. You have 3 papers, 2 that are short and one long. The class itself is painfully boring but you get two free skips. Avoid it if you can
This class was unnecessarily hard for a core credit. He expects you to read long/difficult texts before each class and does pop quizzes on them. Even if you do read, they are so hard you are still bound to miss a few questions and fail since they are only 5 questions each. He's a really nice guy, but class is boring and assignments/tests are hard
With a very rigorous english education in HS, I would still say this class was unnecessarily difficult for a core credit. Readings are very long, and the pop quizzes given at random times throughout the semester were ridiculous. I read and would still get 60s on some quizzes. Lectures are awful, papers are ok. Avoid if you can.
He is a difficult grader, but going to his office hours is going to help! He will help edit your papers and tell you what he wants you to change. He does give pop quizzes on the readings, but you can usually predict when he's going to give them. He's really nice, especially if you talk in class.
This will be one of the most boring classes you've taken but its pretty easy as long as you do good on the papers you'll be fine. There are pop quizzes of the readings but I just skimmed through the readings the day of the quiz and did fine. Hes a very "interesting" guy. If you can get through really boring classes its fairly easy.
Such a sweet guy. Attendance is mandatory which is understandable in this case because his lectures are important and informative for the assignments. You'll have readings before most classes, and although some can be pretty lengthy, they aren't too bad. He gives great feedback on all assignments so you can tell he really wants to help you improve
He is probably the most boring person I have ever listened to. It was expected of me to be and English major to get an A. The TA's say they will help you and grade easy, but they don't. Lots of reading. If you do the readings, you will still not do good. They place an absurd expectation on you for this being a required course.
Dr. Sallerno is a pretty good professor. There were weekly readings that were discussed in each lecture and weekly assignments based on the readings. You can get by with missing reading every now and then, just pay attention. The midterm seems daunting but pay attention to terms, themes, etc. Don't fall behind, go to class.
Salerno's BRITLIT course requires consistent effort, but he makes the content engaging. Readings and essays are demanding, but using resources like Unstuck study can help manage the workload. Overall, a rewarding class for literature fans.
You only have 3 very easy essays, The first and last essays are only 2 pages The second essay is the longer essay and it's 4 pages. There is amidterm exam and a final exam, along with bi-weekly reading quizzes (5 questions). You can tell that he loves his job and the subjects of British Literature. He is a very generous grader.
Very loud for 8 in the morning. Assigns a lot of reading due before each class that there are sometimes pop quizzes on. You have to read very deeply to do well on the quizzes. Papers are not bad though and the midterms are not horrible if you study well enough.
Had a lot of energy and cares for his students. However, you have to read before coming into class every day. There were a lot of pop quizzes that weren't the easiest to answer (even when you read the material). Papers and midterms/finals really aren't bad and I usually made good grades on.
An interesting guy. He was once a theatre kid, and it shows. Overall, classwork seems unnecessary, but the papers weren't hard, and he set very clear criteria. He also provides excellent feedback if you do the optional peer review. But he's definitely a character.
I adore Dr. Salerno. He is so sweet and super lenient when it comes to grading. There is a lot of reading though and I personally found a lot of the plots hard to remember when it came time for the reading quizzes (pop quizzes), but other than that I really enjoy his class!
He is very nice and quirky, but its a lot of reading and some of the pieces are hard to understand. He gives a good amount of pop quizzes so if you didnt read or understand the reading you are cooked. The essays arent too bad, his grading is pretty fair, just go to office hours and ask for help and critiques before submitting.
Professor Salerno is an extremely funny and interesting professor! He is an attentive lecturer, and his class is discussion-based with participation being very important. This is a reading-heavy class, and there are frequent pop quizzes. He is a bit of a hard grader, but he is extremely accessible and very helpful. Would take again!
This class was great and I would recommend people take it. A couple comments: his grading is tough, so essays should be high level. There is reading assignments every class, and pop quizzes (he will sometimes hint at them). It is a very discussion based course, so the more you talk, the better the class is.
This class isn't easy by any means, but Prof Salerno is passionate about his subject, and he facilitates great discussions. Be prepared for heavy reading and quizzes though. The essays aren't terrible if you budget your time for them. He's a really funny guy who loves English
He is very sweet and interactive with his students, and he's very fun and energetic. He prompts you to think about things on a deeper level and is introspective. I made the mistake of not reading for some of the quizzes, and that's why I made a B, but if I had read more, then I could've easily passed with an A. It's easy if you just read.
I love Dr. Salerno. He is very interesting and you can just tell he is a nice guy. Lots of reading and pop quizzes. I missed a few classes which reflects my grade. Def would retake knowing what I know now!
I usually get A's on essays but only got B's here. Never skip the reading; he gives pop quizzes worth 15% of your grade. The class feels like a fun book club. Read consistently and go to office hours if you want to boost your essay grades.
