Alan is very passionate about the teaching of English and using technology in the classroom. He is also passionate about post-colonial literature. I have taken 4 or 5 of his classes and have enjoyed every one. He expects a lot of you but you are guaranteed to learn if you rise to his expectations.

Allen has a real passion for english, is a little strange at times, i think he is pretty ambiguous with assignments.

I can't say enough about him - he is fantastic. He truly cares about his students and the topic that he is teaching. I learned a lot from his class, though it wasn't "easy." I wish I would have taken him earlier, so I could have taken more classes taught by him. I had heard that he is politically biased, but I found the opposite to be true.

Allen is a great guy. His teaching style will be comfortable to anyone out there and he's really down to earth. Teaching is very innovative and helpful for the future.

Dr. Webb is easygoing and understanding but still dedicated and professional. He really cares about his students and is obviously passionate about his subjects. I'm not an English major and I took his class for a gen ed, and it was amazing. If you get a chance to, definitely take his classes!!!

The material itself isn't difficult, but the reading requirement is extremely high. However, I found the literature very interesting, and I enjoyed the class a lot more than I expected to. Learned a lot. The prof is great and very helpful.

He was a solid professor who always got people talking. Our class was a community and you always felt comfortable speaking your mind; your opinion matters. There was a decent level of work to this class, but it was worth it because of how much you take away. Sometimes I fell behind, but I could still recover. He is understanding.

This class was very entertaining because of the different techniques there are to learn when being a teacher. I enjoyed most of the literature we had to read, and the homework assignments were interesting and unique

Dr. Webb is a dynamic professor. His knowledge of technology and teaching are so helpful. His approach in the classroom is open and group oriented. He has been my favorite teacher at WMU!

Allen's teaching style will ruin every other class you take at WMU after his, because his class is so laid back and interesting. Classes are mainly discussion-based, and discussions flowed well. He does a great job creating a warm atmosphere from the very beginning. He also includes a lot of technology in assignments, which is great for future use.

Allen's teaching style is very laid back. We sit in circles so that we can see everyone for the discussions we have. On the first day we went around until everyone knew everyone's name which was very helpful into feeling comfortable with your classmates. Classes are mainly discussion-based.The books you MUST read for the discussions. Great Class!

I am a graduate of WMU and I am now attending WSU for my Master's in Special Education. After having various Professors, I still consider Dr. Webb to be one of the top professors I've ever had. For those truly committed to becoming a teacher I highly recommend Dr. Webb. He will teach AND inspire you.

Great professor! He is extremely helpful and easy to reach if you have questions. Lots of reading, but the majority of the books are pretty interesting! We read 7 books in our 8 week online course and had a quiz on each book. Daily discussion posts and 3 papers are also due. Semester outline is posted and easy to follow. Overall, great course!

I took African Literature and be prepared to read because we read at least 7 novels, a play, and 2 online sources. You also do a big group project which is super inspiring but just requires a lot of work. And it gets frustrating when other students dont pull their wieght. He is understanding, though. And will help you with anything you need.

Dr. Allen is hands down the best professor I have ever had. He genuinely wants you to learn and grow and gives you many opportunities to do so through reading and discussion. I have never had a class like his where I was legitimately excited and interested in what we were learning. He is a great professor and great person who really cares.

Allen Webb is a phenomenal instructor, incredibly educated in every field in which he teaches. He is knowledgeable and accessible if you are having difficulties in anything.

He is a WONDERFUL professor- his philosophy is to teach you, and for you to learn, and he is much less concerned with performance than he is with effort.

Beware that all of Allen's classes can be a little unnerving, because his way of running a classroom (like a community, where everyone has something valuable to share) is so different than regular classroom (where the professor acts as if they are only there to put knowledge in your head).

I would encourage you to speak with him if you feel overwhelmed in his class. It is certainly reading-intensive, but the material is interesting and not too difficult.

Dr. Webb is honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. His class is fun but has some work behind it. He makes you really think about becoming an English teacher, and all the pro's and con's with it. He is an awesome writer and gives great feedback on papers and projects.

Dr. Webb is a favorite professor. His class is discussion heavy so make sure to at least skim some of the reading. There are many papers, but they are easy writes. He gives great feedback (try to turn your papers in hard copy) often in the form of audio clips. Your thoughts on the course itself are specifically asked for at the end of the class.

Dr. Webb was one of my favorite professors this semester. There are a lot of papers, but he is a fair grader. He gives feedback in unique ways and very quickly. Also he is very caring and understanding. If you are struggling, communicate with him and he will help. Would Definitely recommend taking his classes.

English major or not, take at least one class with Dr. Webb before you graduate! He is very approachable and lenient that he blows most of the egotistical and uptight professors at Western out of the water. If you communicate with him about anything you're struggling with ASAP, he will more than willing help you out. I highly recommend him!

His Summer online course may terrify those who can't handle a 15-week workload crammed into an 8-week timeframe. However, he is very lenient on deadlines and will make an exception to extend it if you're struggling to keep up. As long as you communicate to him beforehand, you shouldn't have a problem with passing his class. He is a stellar teacher!

I absolutely adore Allen Webb and his summer online course! As he suggested to me, if you're going to take his summer classes, do not take other courses on top of it. His workload is that of a regular 15-week semester, but if you're struggling to keep up, he will gladly extend the deadline. Just communicate to him beforehand and you will pass!

Unlike most of the uptight professors on Western's main campus, Dr. Webb is exceptional because he cares about his students and their success. I recommend him to anyone, especially those registered with Western's DSS office because he is accommodating. Just speak to him after the first class meeting so that way he knows what you need to succeed.

Out of all of the English professors I've had at Western so far, Dr. Webb stands out the most. His summer online course maybe difficult because the workload feels crammed, but he is very lenient with deadlines. I had Dr. Webb for his summer online African Lit. course and loved it! I wish he would teach other English courses that I need because that's what I'm majoring in! At first, I was not excited about taking this class, but Dr. Webb made it so much fun! Out of all of the teaching classes that I have taken so far, this is the one I that I absolutely enjoyed the most! The classroom atmosphere is really laid back. Intro. to Secondary Education class was a very easy and a lot of fun! If Dr. Webb is available to take for this class, he is highly recommended. I learned so much in this class that I will take with me in future teaching! The final exam is just the methods you would use in teaching, no right or wrong answers! I highly recommend taking him!

Probably my favorite professor at Western. Yeah, he does the whole "I'm just as hip as you guys," but it's not a front. He will be VERY helpful with feedback and allows you to work at your own pace, giving as much help as you need. Very good professor if you are looking for lots of genuine encouragement.

Allen Webb is the most helpful and down to earth teacher ever! He knows how to capture an audience. I have learned a lot about expressing myself in papers. You never have to turn your papers in before the portfolio group grades them, but you really should keep up with doing them, it will help alot later.

Allen Webb is a great professor that tries to help in any way possible. If you go to class and write the three papers for the end you will pass the class. You determine 1/3 of your grade, Allen determines 1/3 of your grade, and 3 people in your class determine the last 1/3 of your grade.

Allen Webb is the best professor I've had at Western yet. He is always willing to help and does everything in his power to help you get the best grade possible. This was the one class that I always looked forward to going to every day. Plus, he's very lenient with deadlines if you're struggling to complete any assignments by the due date.

Allen Webb is intrested in his students lives outside of class. He is very clear about what the class consists of and his expectations of you. Interesting teaching philosophy, very kind and understanding if you mess up on an assignment. For some reason a little off-putting in one on one conversations, though? He tries very hard to care about every student, but sometimes it comes off a little forced.

African Lit. is an interesting class to take. I enjoy the texts we read and discuss. Grades are based on a few papers and DP so you have to make sure you do well on all of them. Running an idea by him is no problem. He can be a bit odd sometimes but in a funny way. He knows what he's talking about. One of my easiest English classes here so far.

Overall, I was impressed with Allen Webb. He does have a tendency to force introverts to participate in class, but they have opportunities to say what they think. He is very enthusiastic and animated. Therefore, I found his class to be entertaining at times. He is a great guy and is always willing to help his students, especially on papers.

Allen Webb is a great professor! He doesn't expect you to teach yourself. He wants you to think deeply about literature and not expect him to feed you insight. He wants you to think about the literature and make arguments with textual support. Go beyond the class discussions in your paper and write without any filler fluff to get the page length.

There is a lot of reading and his lectures are not the clearest, but they are interesting and can be hilarious. There are 2 longer papers and 1 shorter one, and he allows rewrites on them. If you are a strong writer, you will be fine, and besides he is always available for help. Beware though, there is a lot of hw in the online summer class.

Despite not using eLearning, one can pretty assess what is their grade in the class based on one's grades from the papers we have to write. I appreciate and respect Allen Webb, a lot. I think he is an outstanding professor who is passionate about literature and has us all asking the deeper question, "Why does this matter?" I recommend him!

African Lit. is a wonderful class to take with Allen Webb! He is funny in class and has a real passion for the material. Only 3 papers and a final (mine was take home). He gets us to talk a lot in class. If you work really hard on the papers, you'll get an A. If he thinks your argument is strong, he will overlook minor grammar issues.

Allen made my first year amazing. I used to look forward to going to that class every day. Not only did he make a conscious effort to ensure the comfort and general well-being of each student, he also made assignments enjoyable and eliminated the pressure to write a "perfect paper."

Definitely one of the best classes I've taken so far. Dr. Webb is a very kind and caring professor, very understanding of any circumstances that may impact your grade, and definitely worth taking. The assignments seem intense, but really, as long as you put in the work, you'll do just fine.

I enjoyed Allen for Literary Interpretation and thought that he picked out really great books for us to read. He is great at leading class discussions and providing some historical background on some of the books discussed. If you need to take this class, I recommend that you take it with this professor because he is a kind, caring gentleman.

I enjoyed Allen's online African Lit. class over the summer and thought his book selection was just right. Even if you do poorly on the quizzes or forget several discussion posts, you can do the extra credit by doing a plethora of investigations (need to accumulate at least 100 points). You can literally get by this class with extra credit alone.

Allen is an absolutely amazing teacher. I took him for a teacher education course and he absolutely loves what he does. His reading material was amazing, but you can honestly get by without the readings

Dr. Webb has become my favorite professor I have ever had. This course was so fun and informative. He hears you, and is available for anyone struggling.I have never met a professor who cares as much, or been so willing to go far to help students. I am taking his African Lit next, and would take every course he offered if I could. Highly recommend!

Allen taught me more in a semester than I did all through high school. He truly understands and wants to help in any way shape or form with learning how to be an educator. I'm keeping an eye out for any other classes he teaches that I can get for credit because I want him again so badly.

Dr. Webb is one of the most caring and enthusiastic professors. He is incredibly understanding, and clearly loves what he does. He makes sure to become your friend and mentor outside of his role as a professor. He is hilarious, transparent, and encouraging. If I could have him as my professor every semester, I would.

Dr. Webb's class inspired me by presenting new material regarding African history while allowing me to explore topics that fascinated me through "investigations." I highly recommend this class to English Majors, as it was counted as one of my required literature classes. It was a rich experience.

Allen was one of my favorite professors, he is so passionate about his work and teaching. This class seems like a lot at first, but I never had an issue with the readings or projects (Ai is required and encouraged) with 18 credits and 10-15 hour work week. This class is an environmental science / English class that focuses on climate change.

This class was super insightful as a mixed race woman. If you are not a reader I suggest doing audio books and hard copy. If you are aiming to succed this class should be very easy.
