There is no life in this teacher. The only excitement is watching students heads hit the tables as they fall asleep. Easy class but a real sleeper.
A bit bland, but it is still my favorite class. The material is intersting and she brings up good topics for discussion. Just participate and you will get many ideas for papers. She will help you if asked and if you get a bad grade in this class it's because you didn't try.
Easy class but I can't help falling asleep. It's not really interesting at all but she accepts my papers when they are late, so she is pretty lax.
Shes so nice, but the class is SOOOO boring. But she definitely was the nicest professor I've had.
very nice professor, really tries to interest the class, lets you turn in papers late, very laid back. Grades papers fairly. And didn't take attendance.
Really easy teacher. Let's you rewrite every paper if you want. Always helpful and open to questions. Good teacher to take to fulfill writing requirement for those who aren't crazy about english/literature.
sweet lady. cares a lot about the students. drink lots of coffee if you want to be able to stay awake during her class. and she doesn't take attendance, but it's a good idea to go to class every so often.
very very nice teacher, she has no problem working with any student to help bring up your grade. overall i wasn't too interested in the course subject, but she makes it an easy environment to participate in. usually let us out early
Prof. Blyler is the BEST! She is so sweet and nice, she's interested in her subject matter and she really cares about helping her students become better writers. Grading was tough but A's are possible, deadlines are really lax, and she lets you rewrite papers. Plus if you go to her she'll help you a lot. Highly recommended for WR 150!
Best writing professor at BU!!
She's a sweetheart, and really cares about her students. The class is definetly dull 95% of the time, but she is very lax about late papers. She is a fair grader, and always will help you if you ask. She is also very non judgemental, which I love.
blyler is a saint - she let's you revise every paper for a higher grade, generate topics for papers & workshop in class & is helpful in office hours i got a B but if i'd tried harder i could have gotten a better grade - revise early and often -and work with her - she has lots of good paper topics & she is very super nice - thank you prof. blyler
professor blyler is pretty much amazing. you can revise all your papers for a higher grade which is awesome. she is a really fair grader, more on the easier side than hard. she is SO helpful one on one, gives you great ideas for topics for papers and helps you so much if you don't know what you want to write about. best choice for WR 150!!
She is wicked chill and friendly! She makes class so enjoyable, i actually look forward to it! The essay due dates are almost always pushed back, and she is very understanding. She didn't penalize anyone for skipping her class to go to the Red Sox Parade!
Blyler is an excellent writing professor. She is always there for her students, and will allow for papers to be turned in late as long as they get in in a nominal time. I do not even like writing, but i look forward to her class.
She is one of the best professors I had at BU. She is very nice and very helpful. She completely changed my writing style. She is not a stickler for grammar either. Class can get very dull. But, definitely worth taking.
Prof Blyler is great! Had her first semester freshman year, is a nice break from intimidating lecture halls, she really takes the time to get to know her students and genuinely cares. Workload is definitely not bad, gives great feedback, not an extremely tough grader. Go to her office hours and you will definitely appreciate her!
Well considering I only took this class because of her ratings, theres not really much to say. She NEVER gives papers back on time, she barely answers emails, isnt always available outside class, and shes always late. However, she gives really good feedback. Overall good class.
It is completely true that you don't have to do any work during the class--bring ur laptop for entertainment. It is very likely that you will not read most of the books. She did not return the majority of the assignments (4th paper, final paper, summary, BUWA, or rewrites # 2& 3, and there was no option to rewrite paper #4)comments were easy to fix
She's a great professor and is pretty nice. She's willing to help you out on assignments during office hours, and that's very helpful for essays. She allows you to turn in assignments late, but she does grade harshly sometimes.
You don't really have to participate/come on time/show up to do well haha. Just turn in your work, go to office hours if you really want to, do a fair amount of reading. She'll notice the effort, and her grading is decent. She is a really nice person
Great teacher. I had no interest for the topic coming into her class, but she really helps you through everything. Im not a reader, nor do I like long essays but this is an awesome class. She's really nice and helpful.
LOVE her! The reading material can be sooo boring but I love the flexibility Blyler gives with assignments... She totally understands that WR150 is prob not everyone's first priority. Anyways I don't like writing at all but she is mad encouraging, and class isn't difficult if you put an eensy bit of effort it
Blyler is amazing!!! She is a phenomenal teacher, willing to help you out whenever you need it. She is lax with attendance and assignments, and is easygoing my nature. A highly approachable teacher who is great to just talk to as well! I hate writing but she made it easy on the class. She grades very fairly too. Literally, she's perfect!
She is very nice and a fair grader. She is knowledgeable and is a helpful editor and is a great help in office hours. You still have to write the papers and put the effort in, but overall she is a great professor.
Her assignment outlines can be kind of vague, but she does a great job explaining ideas in the text and putting examples on the board. she really gets to know her students. so, so so nice
She is the sweetest lady I had her for American Homestead. Don't buy the books. You only read small sections and she gives you links to find the books online. Her grading is fair and she'll always give you ideas and rewrite your papers for you if your stuck. Great class not so great subject matter
She's a really really nice and helpful teacher. A fair grader, but don't expect to get your papers (or your grades on them) back within a month...or two...
Blyler is extremely relaxed about due dates and guidelines. She is very nice and approachable. Her discussions are often boring and rambling, and I never got much out of them. The readings and subject were not as interesting as I'd hoped. She grades slightly tough.
Always willing to give you more time to work on your papers. If you meet with her and try to follow her comments you will probably get a decent to pretty good grade. She usually doesn't give anyone anything under a B- or C on any papers. She is so nice and although the topic is boring it is worth taking if you want a teacher who is easy going.
Blyler is great. She is very approachable and helps you a lot with your papers. She is an average grader, wants specific analysis in each paper but is willing to help you if you put in the time. Lectures are so boring, i never paid attention but did the reading and the papers were easy to write. Very flexible and so nice!
DO ANYTHING TO TAKE HER! She is the best professor ever! Although class is boring, she is really understanding and allows you to turn in your paper late (as in within 1 month). She tries her best to help you if you see her in her office hour. No attendance taken after first 3 classes but is always good to show up once a while. She is GOD, Take her!
She is a really nice lady. Don't do the readings, totally unnessecary and class can be painfully boring sometimes but at least she is sweet and pretty fair about grading! Will help you get an A if thats your goal
She is a very nice woman. During class she just rambles the entire time while everyone is on their laptops not pay attention. However, she is always very willing to help you if you ask for it and is very helpful outside class. She is a fair grader and if you're looking for an easy going class take this one.
Her class materials are dense and boring. In class, she would always just keep talking for an hour while all her students are not paying attention. However, she is a nice lady when she is working on your paper individually. She would do anything to help you improve your paper. And, as long as you show the effort, she will give you a fair grade.
she is best writing teacher at BU. doesnt do anything relevant in class and as long as you turn a paper in you will get an A. Do anything to take her. easiest A at BU.
So far, this writing class has been amazing because Professor Blyler is such a nice and understanding professor. No lie. She is a unbelievably nice person. Knowledgeable but boring, she will tell you everything about American Homestead. Essays may be long+dense, but attendance is not kept track after first three classes. You can ask for extensions!
She is SOOO nice and lenient. The topic is SOOO boring tho and the reading is dense. Attendance doesn't count after the 1st week or 2. She's super lenient and nice so extensions are very possible. It's hard to get an A but almost everyone gets a B.
No offense to her but class is a bit of a drag. The material itself also isn't exciting. But she is the sweetest lady! She really wants you to do well and she is so nice. If you go to her office hours, show you are putting in effort and use her feedback she will grade you fairly!
Blyer is a very sweet and friendly person. However you can easily doze off in her class because the topic can be boring, but when it comes to writing papers, definitely seek help. She is very helpful. I got an okay grade, but no class here is ever an easy A.
Class is unbelievably boring. You will either fall asleep or just not go. She writes notes on the board that are illegible and you cannot hear her when she speaks. That being said, she's very nice and will help you when you need it. If you want a guaranteed B, take the class. It's hard to get better than a B, but almost impossible to do worse.
Great Professor, she really makes you think!
All the positive comments before this are true. The topic is somewhat boring, but it's an easy class from the workload point of view. The downside is that it's hard to get the A. Almost everyone gets a B. Also, don't buy the books cuz they are almost all online
This class is very unorganized and very odd. The topic was bland, but broad enough so that you could potentially just write your papers without any knowledge of the readings. I don't think any As are ever given out, but you'll definitely get a B regardless of whether you put in full effort or none. Attendance doesn't matter.
Professor Blyler was super helpful during meetings and gave a lot of useful advice! I got a pretty good grade in the class and the meetings were the most useful in getting a good grade. Paper 2 was a bit hard because of spring break/topic was boring but overall this class requires a lot of effort for the 3 papers.
I'm not sure about other classes of Blyler's I got an A- and know of at least three other students in the class who got at least that. She's helpful and reasonable and I recommend
I took American Homestead with Professor Blyler and it was the perfect choice for someone that is not majoring in writing. She makes the topic interesting, is always available outside the class and appreciates when you put in the effort.
Very nice, soft-spoken woman. Topics can be dry. Class is very easy, and may be boring at times. Your experience will be dependent on your class, as she tends to focus more on talking/trying to get people to participate, but she needs to be more assertive. Wish she pushed a little harder. GPA booster, but nothing overly memorable.
I loved Professor Blyler so much, she is the nicest lady and she really cares about her students. I enjoyed talking with her outside of class so much. That being said, she is passionate about her subject matter, if you're not interested in it-- don't take this class or you will be bored. Very flexible teacher and an A is achievable if you work hard
Professor Blyler's classes tend to be a bit bland and are more lecture style even though writing classes are intended to be more like smaller size discussion classes. That being said, you can use the time in class to write your papers. She is very helpful and will work with to improve your papers. She is a fair grader but it is hard to get an A.
Professor Blyler is extremely laid-back, and runs a class that is very conversational. She gives good feedback on essays, but is not a very tough grader. Reading is dull at times, but manageable, and any writing is a collaborative process that often happens in class. Blyler is sweet, curious about her students' topics, and easy to work with.
Very laid-back professor, lenient and a kind person. Her class can get a little boring, but if you participate even a little you'll be good in her books. I liked her a lot! You really don't need to buy or even rent any of the books for the class because she posts pdfs of the readings.
Professor Blyler is an amazing professor. Attendance is not mandatory, and she won't actually punish you for missing any amount of classes. As long as you are willing to put in time to research and write the papers, and make an effort to meet with her to discuss your progress, she will do everything to get you an A in her class.
by far the most chill prof I've had. It's ok to not do readings, just look up summaries/quotes for essays. PARTICIPATE-- legit talk to her about anything (even offtopic) and she will love you. gives ample time to work on essays in class. took attendance the first few classes, but isn't strict about it especially if she likes you. truly a BRO
Professor Blyler is a really sweet person and she really cares about her subject and her class, however her grading is a little all over the place. You never really know how you are doing in the class because she doesn't hand things back or give feedback. I honestly have no idea how she calculated the final grade. It's hard to do well.
Blyler is a great professor and a really nice woman. Everyone should try to take a class with her.
Professor Blyler was super chill and personable. She is available a lot outside of class and gives great feedback before the final versions of the essays are due. She doesn't really take attendance.
Super chill prof. She doesn't care about attendance as long as you hand in things on time.
She is super flexible and understanding. Definitely one of the best professors I've had here at BU.
Readings are optional Attendance not mandatory Super easy grader Super chill in class Will give you extensions if you ask nicely Helps find useful sources for research paper
Professor Blyler is the definition of a gem. You only have three generally short and easy essays. Lots of reading, but you don't have to do it to pass with a good grade. Feels that Vibe Check is a technical term. Lots of group work. You get to go on adventures. If you want to go back in time and feel the pure bliss of daycare, take this class.
Professor Blyler is one of the kindest teachers I have had all semester. She is always open to your ideas when it comes to papers and is available outside of class in case you want to conference with her. She also offers great feedback on individual writing and is a person you can openly talk to.
She's super chill and will give you extensions on assignments if you have a legitimate excuse. Her office hours are super helpful when it comes to writing the final research paper.
You have to do alot of reading, however, its not really required because she goes over the summary of the reading during class. Very caring and polite professor. Had amazing converstations with her. If you are struggling or have personal problems, she completely understands and will extend deadline. Very relaxed. Easy grader
Professor Blyler was incredible. I was a bit hesitant before taking her class but she is a true gem. Especially with our online format, she was very generous with deadlines. I know its said a lot, but she does genuinely care for her students and makes herself available outside of class. I truly wish I could take her for every course here at BU.
Shes amazing and so caring. This class always put me in a good mood afterwards. She gives so much feedback on papers and really wants us to succeed. Fav Professor at BU
This class is amazing. She is so kind and caring and is very interested in this topic. While it is a bit of reading in the beginning, it eases up as you begin to work on projects that you pick the topics for. We also class times cut short to do walks across campus, it can't get any better than that. I cannot speak highly enjoy of this professor.
Blyler is a great professor. Very easygoing with her students. Not at all a hard grader. If you like nature, definitely consider taking her class!
I absolutely adore this woman. She is very sweet and passionate about her subject. She is extremely lenient and gives great feedback on essays. I highly recommend her for an easy A and also because, again, she is such a sweet lady. I def will be taking her WR150 class.
She is very chill and lenient. Make sure to give your best and you will receive a good grade. I did not put much time and effort into this class and still ended with a good grade.
Blyler is very flexible with deadlines and will grant ANY extension if you ask. There isn't a grading contract so grades are at her discretion so it's good to participate. I participated in class but didn't turn in half of the assignments and still got an A-. Lectures can get a little mundane but the class is super easy so it's whatever.
I am more lukewarm on Professor B than other people are. Her lectures are very boring, she just kind of drones on about deadlines and minutia all class and nobody really listens to her. However, her class is an easy A and she's super kind and forgiving. She assigns a ton of reading but you don't have to do them. Decent if you just want the credit
Absolutely incredible professor. So sweet an accommodating, rolling deadlines and extensions always offered. Walks instead of class often, and highl
Easy class, papers were not graded that harshly
Took her migrations and sanctuaries class. She is very flexible when it comes to due dates and will give you an extension if you ask. Grading is fair and the reading doesn't relate that closely to what you do in class so you could get away with not doing it.
I did not read a single thing that was assigned for her class and still did fine. Especially with the grading contract, low effort is required to succeed in this class.
Boring Lectures, but the class is elementary. I had decent absences but as long as you submit work semi on-time you should be good. Keep in communication with her during the semester and talk to her if you need extensions, she grants plenty of them despite what the syllabus states.
I hope she Professor Blyler a great day every day and her pillow is cool every night. Such a good and interesting class.
Professor Blyler is really an excellent teacher. She clearly cares about her students writing development and provides great feedback on drafts. Classes were engaging and the way Professor Blyler encourages students to interact and think deeply about the content of the class is amazing. Cannot recommend enough.
Quite simple and easy, Professor B is very nice and very kind, the classes can be a bit boring but overall a great writing class to take.
Such a caring professor and chill class - there is a grading contract so you just have to complete two extra assignments if you want an A (one extra for an A-, and a B+ otherwise). She is so generous with extensions; I would only say that sometimes the assignments were a little vague but super open-ended so you could write about anything!
Great person to talk to and get to know. Amazing content and I love that we weren't in traditional class settings all the time. This class is very nature-friendly and we've had some chances to go and explore the city. 1000% recommend.
A very chill and eye opening class! We had walks around campus and outside of campus. She uses a grading contract and in order to get an A- or A you just had to write an extra paper. I found the readings to be a bit heavy in the beginning but they became less frequent as the semester continued. Also Prof Blyler is a super nice person in general!
Prof B is literally one of the BEST professors you could take for WR120. Reading the main texts & showing up to class are necessary to succeeding, but it's very chill. She's super generous with deadlines, basically encourages/validates any insight you have on the texts, & is generally a super caring person. Do urself a favor and take her class!
contract grading! the beginning of the semester is a bit more reading and small writing activities but the rest of the semester is just working on the two projects of the semester. she also has a time bank that gives extensions on assignments.
Definitely one of the best writing professors at BU, went by contract grading and was super helpful on feedback with assignments.
grading contract so you dont have to worry about bad writing. you can experiment and try different writing styles. took her Boston Natural History and some classes you get to walk around campus. its very chill and class is mostly doing your assignments
I love Professor B, I took WR152 with her after doing her WR120 in the fall. She's genuinely so caring and passionate, and the grading contract means you can focus on learning without worrying about your grade. For this course we went on a few walks including Amory Park/Hall's pond which was gorgeous!
LOVE THIS PROF! She was so sweet and you can tell she genuinely cares about her students and the material she is teaching. The class was very easy... and it is interesting as a first-year who is new to Boston. She uses a grading contract so as long as you put in effort and participate in class you should get an A. CHOOSE HER GUYS!
She was so understanding throughout the entire semester and the work she gave was very writing heavy which is to be expected from a writing course but the instructions were very clear and reasonable. She gave us lots of time to work on them and was consistently engaged with everyone in the class and really took the time and effort to meet everyone.
prof b is adorable and very passionate about Boston landscapes, love how she gets to know each student. class is mostly worksheets and discussion and can def feel repetitive, but her grading contract makes it completion-based with optional work for an A- then A. there are a few in-class outdoor days which are the best, they are very refreshing!
TAKE HER CLASS!!! prof b is genuinely the best professor i've had here so far!!! this is the first time i enjoyed a writing class in a long time. she is super dedicated and caring, and it really felt like she took the time to get to know me. she's also super chill and pushes deadlines a lot. contract grading so it's an easy A as well!
Professor Blyler is an amazing professor! She genuinely cares about how students do, so she gives feedback on every essay. Her instructions for essays are really clear and easy to follow. Contract grading, so you just need to do one extra assignment to get an A- and then do another to get an A.
Professor B is the best! The observations we do for class are helpful and fun. She is also very understanding of students busy schedules and will push deadlines often. The class is on a grading contract with two additional assignments needed for an A, which aren't very difficult. I wish every teacher was like her!
