Favors Girls. Enthusiastic. Somewhat Immature.
amazing amazing amazing - so much energy, loves people who take a sincere interest in her class (not just girls), incredibly smart
Took the class in '03. It was great, so was she. Then again I am about to start Law School. A+++++++. Tough exams if you're not careful.
awesome teacher
Most amazing teacher I have ever encountered at Emory. She is the reason I'm in law school.

Professor Burdette is phenomenal - top 2 professors I had at Emory. period. She has this amazing way of making a class exciting (she sings and makes up funny things) when it could otherwise be bland. Her tests are insanely hard, but they really make you apply what you learned which is helpful. She's just absolutely phenomenal.
burdette was the best professor i had at emory. you will not find someone more excited about the material than she. pay attention and write down everything she says. go to office hours with any questions and you can get an A. you just have to put in the time!
Absolutely love her. Tons of personality, really made class interesting. Go to class and pay attention to the examples. If you go to her and show her that you're really trying, she'll definitely help you out.
Burdette makes every class engaging and interesting, even when we're learning the incredibly dry topics. She'll sing, dance, make you laugh... as long as she knows it'll help you learn the topic. I have to scribble as fast as I can to take notes on everything she says, but its so worth it. Everyone needs to take her class.
She's awesome. Very challenging but she got me and many others interested in law school.
She takes business law, the most boring subject you could imagine, and makes it awesome. She teaches her class by telling crazy funny stories. Shes also one of the most helpful people I've ever met, and she doesn't hold it against you if you just don't have the law mind set as long as you work hard
Super enthusiastic, very helpful, and wicked smart. By far my best teacher ever!
Definitely one of my favorite teachers. Cares about her students. Manages to make a seemingly boring subject actually incredibly interesting. The only teacher who has ever kept my attention for every minute of class every single day. Having said that, you have to keep up with the material (readings, podcasts, etc) to do well on the exams.
Amazing professor. She makes business law engaging and fun. Kept me awake for 3 hour long lectures!
So cool!!!
Burdette is my favorite professor I've had at Emory. B-Law is a demanding course, but she is an absolutely incredible lecturer. She really cares about her students and is passionate about law!
Burdette seems crazy at first, and she kind of is, but it makes for highly entertaining lectures. She has a story to go with each topic and you will laugh a lot in her class. It's tough because there is so much content to learn, but she makes it very fun. Loved her class.
She is a great person and professor. Her classes are never boring. She explains difficult concept with lots of examples which makes them a lot more understandable. I also like her because she raises our awareness on the problems and issues of this country's law and justice system. Be sure to listen to podcasts and listen in class.
Best professor at Goizueta. Oh wait, most loved business law professor in the USA. Don't believe me? Search "Allison Burdette Bloomberg". They wrote on article on her being the favorite business professor at Emory...
Best professor ever had at Emory. Unbelievable amount of energy and ready to help student! tests are insanely hard and long.
Professor Burdette is one of the best professors you could have at Emory. Her class is hard but definitely learned a lot. She could explain hard and boring business law content in a very easily understood way. Those concepts will be in your brain years after graduation. PS. She is HILARIOUS!
Best professor in Business School. She is able to make dry material super interesting. She'll sing and dance and tell hilarious examples in order for us to get the material. Exams are tough, but as long as you go to lectures, listen to podcasts, you're good!
Burdette is a gem! There's a reason she's the most beloved prof at the b school. Super zany and energetic. Could not be more caring. She makes the material about as interesting as it can be. I would recommend getting to know her and going to office hours. She'll help you do well and probably even make you want to go to law school.
Extremely disorganized material scattered all around the Canvas page which makes your review miserable. She wasted so much time on class that she posts extra podcasts. Way too much stuff in exam and THEY ARE NOT IN LECTURES! Her popularity does not make sense at all.
Burdette is one of the best professors I've ever had. Her lectures are incredibly engaging and she always has the funniest stories to help you understand the material. She's amazing to talk to during office hours and if you participate she will love you. You must do the podcasts she assigns though or you won't pass the tests
Best B school professor. She actually cares if you learn the material and will help if you dont understand (very committed to helping). Lectures are fast moving, but never boring. She keeps you engaged with the material and in class. Exams are long, but doable if you actually follow her study tips. Shes not exaggerating, do not wait to study.
One of the best professors in the business school. Will make you want to go to law school!
Maybe this class is better in person, but online is awful. She uses 20-minute 'breakouts' rather than a regular class time, so barely anything can be covered. Because it's only 20 minutes, there's also no time for asking questions. I tried to like this class, but the disorganization of the material on Canvas makes the class even more difficult.
Absolutely hate her class. The canvas page is super disorganized (which is especially problematic now that classes are online) and the breakout room format is terrible. Honestly don't get the hype but it could be because of classes being online.
Burdette does not respect her students at all. Humiliating expressions and terrible feedback. Self-oriented. Disorganized class. Guess what? She is the only professor who teaches b-law at Emory. Good luck with her and her weird screaming.
Professor Burdette makes you work to understand the law, but if you put the hours in it is an extremely fulfilling class. She finds a way to make even the most dry material interesting and gives legal tips on how to not get scammed in our career/life. One of the most eye opening courses in BBA program.
Literally have to take at least 5 pauses in her 20 minute podcasts because of the screaming (which my girlfriend CANNOT stand!). Her "breakouts" are literally filled with more screaming, random jokes and recapping what I've already learned in the podcasts/PowerPoints. Basically have to teach yourself the class. What a waste.
really caring and enthusiastic. get ready to study and read more than you have in any class yet. crams a lot of material in to the semester, but if you stay on track of things and keep up, you should be fine. i suggest reading through the tutorials, voiceover PPTs, podcasts, and study guides to prepare for exams. long tests. make sure to do the ECs
A big fat nope on this one. The class is very hard, and her style of teaching (which consists of 20 minute breakouts and a disorganized Canvas page vs. actual lectures) does not do this class any favors.
One of the worst and most insufferable professors I've had at Emory. Her class content is so disorganized, you'll spend more time trying to figure out what to study than studying itself. She routinely yells, making you want to claw your ears out. She's rude to students , and we don't even go over class content during the breakout sessions.
This is the most unorganized professor I have ever taken at Emory. The way she teaches really does not make any sense in an online situation. Her materials are so disorganized and she never introduces the concepts for law terms beforehand. She just go straight into it in her podcasts. Be ready to look up concepts on youtube.
Worst professor I've taken while at Emory. Extremely rude.
So disorganziaed
Burdette is amazing! She's funny and really cares for her students.
Prof. Burdette really loves law and you can tell how passionate she is when she teaches it. Her lectures are so straightforward and amazing, you definitely have to put in the work and actually understand the materials! Definitely take her, she's funny!
She's awesome and caring! I really don't get the negative comments. Class has a lot of materials covered so get ready to be challenged.
This class is a mess. You'll spend more time trying to navigate the canvas page than actually studying. Lectures only scratch the surface of what's covered in the exam and most of it is self-study. Also exams are 4/5 hours long and for what?? Irrationally hard class.
Worst professor/class at Emory. Exams are ridiculously long, 5 hours long during weekends. Extremely unorganized canvas page and lectures. She has an army of TAs that don't know what is going on, except for her lead TA. Exams have lots of mistakes b/c her TAs write most of them. Unfortunately it is a required class and you have to put up with it.
This class is not a 4 credit class, its probably worth 12 credit hours. Lecture for 3, Quizzes for 3, and podcast for 3! Literally taking up more than 20 hours of study each week. There are a total of 3 exams, all of them are 5 hours long which is all longer than finals in other classes! It also took up all my time for studying other classes!
To be honest, I believe that her way of teaching this course is extremely unfriendly to international students. If you do not have enough background knowledge about US history, politics, and government structure, it is impossible for you to do well in the first exam. And you will also have a hard time to understand her analogies and jokes in class
Horrible professor. Everything about this class sucks. This class and professor will ruin your mental health. She even tells you the weekend before an exam: "have a horrible weekend" and laughs. Not sure how she went to Harvard.
Hardest required course at bschool. Get ready to be grilled and screwed because LAW IS A HARD SUBJECT. You will learn a lot if you put in your effort though.
She's the only professor who made me feel REALLY uncomfortable in class. I have been trying very hard to think she is just teaching in a very different style so that I can withstand her weird screams and rudeness...
The professor makes or breaks a class, Burdette makes B-Law fun, her energy is infectious. I love the class. I love Burdette. John Moon and team may have t-shirts, but I will have a picture of Burdette in my house. Is this the beginning of the Burdette Cult? Maybe.
Extremely rude, worst experience at goizueta
Someone will go after my family for this...but I like Professor Burdette. The first week or two was almost a nightmare, but then you come to the slow realization that she does actually care. Yes, her teaching style and high-caffeine personality aren't for everyone, but she tries. Her canvas page is an absolute mess though, needs to fix that.
I will qualify this review by saying Burdette is like marmite - you're either gonna love her style or hate it. She's very passionate, very high energy - and so what if she's a bit kooky, she knows her stuff. This course is gonna be difficult if you're not someone into law or who has a knack for analytical writing. I wish I could take this again.
HER CLASS & SHE CHANGED MY LIFE! She is truly one of the most incredible people I have ever met, and I am convinced she is pure genius. It was so enlightening and fulfilling to learn what she taught us in BLAW, and I would take BLAW pt 2 if that was an option. Of course, the homework and tests were so much but this is real life stuff people!!
I don't understand why it is a requirement for everyone. I am an international student who doesn't plan to find a job in the US, meaning many things I learned are of no use, even though I spent tons of time on this course and got an A. I get why some people like Burdette. However, I do feel hurt and not respected by some of her comments in class.
If Burdette's class was not mandatory, nobody would take it. She is extremely unorganized. The best advice I have is to work on the canvas modules weekly (expect a few hours a week) and make an AMAZING study cheat sheet. BTW Burdette's CANVAS PAGE IS DISGUSTING and her TAs are not helpful. The class is a 5/10.
Burdette is one of my favorite professors in the business school. She is genuinely passionate about the subject and caring towards her students. Do you work and go to class just to enjoy her lectures - she will give you SO MANY practical life advice! She makes an effort to know everyone. Her personality may be very bold but is honestly so sweet.
I enjoyed Burdette's passion and high energy (you may not like it though). Gives a TON of extra credit for her long and difficult 4-5 hour exams (avg usually 80s after EC). The canvas page is very messy and I spent hours grinding for exams (and less time than most people too). Curve is very helpful, and recommend taking it before senior year.
What a woman!! Burdette is truly one of a kind. I laugh so much during her lectures and I appreciate how authentic she is. If you pay attention in class and make sure to understand the tutorials, the exams shouldn't be that bad, they're just long. Queen Burdette.
Don't willingly take this class. If you have to take it, take it before senior year. Great professor and interesting concepts but insane workload and (4 hour) exams are ridiculous
You either love her or hate her and there's really no in-between. She does genuinely care about her students and wants everyone to do well, which is nice. The biggest issue with this class is there's too much content covered. Exams are obnoxious: four hours on the weekend. If you cram a few nights before, expect to get around the average (C+).
Yes, the exams are crazy long. But Burdette is great and makes class really entertaining/funny. Some people will hate Blaw, but others will like it better than expected. Personally, I liked this class more than managerial or corp fin. Pay attention in class, start studying early, and you'll do okay. Burdette is b school a legend
Here's the deal with Blaw- you've just gotta embrace the suck. A week before the exam, dedicate 3 hours every night and just got through the modules powerpoint-by-powerpoint. That's it. Just show up to class and enjoy Burdette's lectures, and teach yourself the stuff at home. Burdette is hilarious and cares about each student. A+ class.
BLAW was the hardest class I ever took at the b school. Burdette is a fantastic, funny and charismatic professor but the class will consume a big chunk of your semester. To do well on her tests focus on her quizzes and PPT slides and then apply those concepts to the real world. She is all about application > memorization.
Source of pain and anxiety. She could've made this class much more accessible to her students but she didn't care. Some might argued that she tried to improve, but what would you think when you notice that virtually every quiz assignment on Canvas contains grammar error and unnecessary political comments?
All you can do is pray.
I literally took the class online during the summer while working a job and ended up fine. She cares about you knowing the why and how of the concepts, and short answers req clear, short, and concise sentences. If you use chatgpt to help you understand cases and give examples of diff vocab/topics, then it's much easier to understand the mc on tests
She is absolutely the worst professor in B-school. She is known for micromanagement, yelling at people, and making rather disrespectful jokes that only she finds amusing. Her quizzes are full of mistakes, typos, and terrible formatting issues that distract students' attention and waste a ton of time. Should be fired immediately
Pain... Doesn't explain much about the content in class, but quizzes are super hard and time-consuming, formatted in a way that is not visually human-friendly. Her class is really free-flow and structureless, the way she teaches content is less helpful than learning everything by myself, if u have no background in law you're cooked. It's pain...
Class set up is kind of insane with 4 hour exams on the weekends that make up 75% of your grade. Just grind the week of the exam and you'll do fine. Law is not my strong suit and I did alright. Knows her stuff really well tho and makes class entertaining. You'll find she actually does care about y'all if you just took the time to get to know her.
Prof. Burdette is absolutely amazing. Her class was difficult, but it gives you a taste of what law school is like. She inspired me to consider law school and has inspired others in the past. It might be a difficult course for some, if this kind of info doesn't come naturally to you, but I actually found it not too bad. Highly recommend!
Exams are really hard, but the course materials are interesting. Would take again if not for credit.
BLAW itself is not difficult, but the workload is what makes it challenging. Compared to compsci or econ majors, I still think we have it easy. This class is doable, and its reputation for being difficult is overblown slightly
Genuinely the WORST organized class I've ever taken. She knows her content and seems to care that we learn it, but every resource she gives is atrocious. Her canvas seems as if it was designed 10 years ago and never touched again, and her quizzes and assignments are riddled with spelling and grammar errors that make it hard to understand.
She can't format to save her life and her lessons are more of a PE class mixed with a bunch of yelling rather than teaching. I genuinely feel like I am in a Walmart during black Friday every time I sit in her class.
She is the most disorganized person I know. She treats this class like it's the only class you are taking. She expects you to do work for this class every day and tests you on things she never taught you in class. 80% of this class is self-study...but honestly, you're stuck with her since she's the only professor Emory has for blaw.
She's caring, wants you to learn, passionate, and knowledgeable. But she is very disorganized at times. You will likely be teaching yourself most of the content from her Canvas page, which isn't updated and has content from over 10 years ago. If she had more structure and updated her canvas regularly, she would easily be a 4 or 5/5.
I think a lot of the other ratings are somewhat lying. Yes the class is hard, but she's a good teacher and she does care about her students. She's made the class very fun to be in considering it's BLaw and I am happy she is the teacher for this class. I probably won't even get an A or A- in this class either.
Burdette was a very polarizing teacher but i loved her. it was one of the few bschool classes i truly enjoyed taking and the material was very engaging. wish i had her for more classes.
Burdette is entertaining, passionate, and slightly crazy. However, she is an awful TEACHer. Success in this incredibly difficult course REQUIRES hours of self-teaching and rummaging through her disorganized and convoluted Canvas page (ifykyk). The only bright side is the solace of knowing that all business school graduates must go through Burdette.
I understand this is a hard class and appreciate the challenge, but the course is so unnecessarily difficult in many ways. Everything is communicated through all caps canvas announcements, there is no syllabus, and exam questions are horribly written and formatted. this is ironic considering she makes a fuss about following "writing rules".
Burdette is THE most engaging professor in the business school. She cares about her class and her students. However, she is a horrible TEACHER. She doesnt explain concepts and spends all of class with stupid ways trying to get you to memorize things. Nothing can prepare you for the tests because none of the material is similar to the tests.
She's actually so funny and engaging I was happy to come to class all the time. Was pretty confused every time I didn't do the pre class readings or quizzes because she doesn't go over it in easy terms. But it's all available to you so just listen to the podcasts she makes over and over. Her voice will 100% haunt my brain forever but she's awesome
