I took a class with her and Prof Janowitz...as soon as Coudert would start speaking, I would literally die! She tries to be enthusiastic, but she is a very, very dull person. She could make the most exciting thing sound terrible...she killed any interest i had in the subject.
Do not get fooled by no midterm or final. The tutorials for each reading are graded so hard and she gives very vague instructions for the paper. She is a non-Hurst RST professor, so naturally she is just crazy. You have to learn the style of writing that she likes ASAP! She won't fail u, so do P/NP.
Prof. Coudert was VERY interesting and the class was not that hard, just as long as you read and write your papers clearly and with a solid thesis. She is very easy to talk with and extremely passionate and knowledgeable on the subject of religious studies! I enjoyed her humor and her "tell it like it is" personality. Two thumbs up!!!!!!!
She is so dull and all she cares about is turning things into **** arguments. When ever we read anything new she would just compare with the same old T chart. Boring.
She is really cool! She has very clear ideas about what she expects the class to get out of the readings and brings up this theme often. grading is fair and good feedback. Very enthusiastic about her subject and also very knowledgeable. Loved the class
Professor Coudert is one of my favorite professors at Davis. She really wants to improve your writing skills and encourages thought-provoking debates in a fun environment. Her courses are set-up to actively keep students from slacking off so don't expect to just get by.
a feminist who will make every lecture relate to women. 1 page reading responses due each week graded hard.
she's very clear on what she wants from you in class. the biweekly writings take FOREVER so make sure you allot time for that. not a terrible lecturer, but could be better.
one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. Coudert is truly passionate about this course, and truly knowledgeable. She is very approachable, and will go out of her way to help you. Make use of the office hours because she will give you the benefit of the doubt if she remembers your name. Great class.
this class is a total waste of time. the prof starts talking and in about two minutes you have no idea what she is talking about. The discussion sessions are really helpful except you need to get the good TAs. Mine was a total loser, and even if you follow the rubric you still cant get an A. AVOID THIS CLASS
I really like Professor Coudert! Although she is a hard grader and the material is a bit dense, she is very friendly if you go and talk to her and she really wants her students to do well. I really appreciated her commitment to her students and their education. Her lectures often turned to feminist politics, though :).
Friendly, energetic, and enthusiastic about the subject. However... she's very unclear and often wonders off on random tangents in lecture. Honestly going to lecture is a waste, no joke. The papers aren't too bad, and hey there's no final (just a group poster project) so overall the class was a piece of cake. Take her if you need a GE. ;)
She's great!
Self-absorbed, angry and offensive. Divides the world into idiotic, close-minded buffoons and atheists. During her seminar, one girl ran out crying because of her callous lampooning of all religion. Does not know how to censor herself and assumes everyone agrees with her. Becomes defensive immediately if they don't. She even offends atheists.
she is a nice person overall, but not a great professor. she grades hard, is unclear, and if you dont write or say in your papers exactly what she wants, then youre grade is history. while there was no final, there was a term paper, and although she offered to read and revise your thesis, it didnt really help that much. STAY AWAY!!!!
Do NOT take this class, especially if you are Christian (or have any faith, for that matter). You will regret it.
Dr. Coudert is EXCELLENT!!! Her RST 100 class was hard, but the lowest paper grade I got was a B+ and my final paper was an A+(which I wrote the day it was due!)...she grades fair...just read, go to class, participate and write well...You'll get your A. I got an A- and I'm taking her again for RST 102!
Quite possibly the best RST class I've taken, as an RST major. She's very knowledgeable and helpful. A challenging class and subject matter but definitely worth it if you're willing to do the work and willing to learn. I definitely recommend taking this class with her.
likes essays written, precisely, the way she views things...which, in my opinion, are far-fetched. other than that, the class is very do-able...i hated her class with all my guts...as far as individual thought, you only get to do that with our group project...which consists only 10% of class grade :(
Worst professor I have taken: the lectures were random digressions on early modern Europe and feminism, not Christian Origins. You HAVE to put the teacher's opinion in your paper to get a good grade. I've never written a bad review of a professor before, but this class is a complete waste of my time: early Christian sex, Jesus didn't exist, etc.
At least for Christian origins you will not leave with an understanding of the formative years of Christianity. Uses inapplicable anachronistic examples from later European period. Great for highly feminist/critical bias and open minded but only within this context. Allows no exploration providing all (sources/thought) but actual writing for papers
It's her way or no way. Grades bases on how much you stray from her specific interpretations.
Going to lecture was pretty much pointless. Coudert hardly ever explained what the articles were about. The essay/midterm prompts are horribly unclear. She expects you to compare things that are very difficult to compare, and then you get marked down for it.
very boring teacher, i think i was sleepy every leacture, papers are ok, and midterm and final are reasonable, go to section, it'll help w/ understanding
Dr. Coudert was a very good prof. I liked her a lot. She was very helpful and kept the topic interesting
Must go along with what she says. Lectures were boring and useless. Never really discussed readings and made comments off tangent. Her way or no way. You must agree with what she says to receive good grade.
The questions for the midterm and othe short essays were not easy to comprehend. Coudert said there was no right or wrong answer but that was a lie. She expected us to know so much and have a vast knowledge of other topics
unnecessary to go to class because entire grade is based on papers which are based on the books. grade entirely depends on who grades your papers -- TA and Professor ask for 2 entirely different things however, you never know which one is going to grade your work, so it is unclear who to listen to. Not too much work obtainable B, not an easy A
Prof. Coudert cares deeply about her subject matter and her students. She is a wealth of information and provides references to other topics as they arise. She is vibrant and down to earth. You will learn a great deal from her classes; and she is NEVER boring.
Fantastic professor. Excited by her subject, knowledgeable and compassionate with her students. Her enthusiasm makes attending class fun. She pushes for clarity and conciseness in writing. Lots of reading, but always discussed and expanded upon. Highly recommended professor.
Incredibly intelligent, witty and passionate person - a pleasure to attend every interesting lecture! Agree, obtainable B, hard to get A (got A's on most papers, and still ended up with a B+, one of my only B's at UCD). No exams, but strict on writing and assigns a lot of reading (often dense, but always interesting). Not easy, but recommended!
Do not recommend this class! It is interesting material but the teacher is unclear on her demands as well as the TA's. They all grade differently....take the class only for 2 units if you still take it!!!!!
Most useless professor. Her lectures go into ridiculous tangents and she only really summarizes the readings when she is on track. A very biased grader. You have to completely agree with her to get a good grade. She bluntly stated in class that if you took a different view than what she explained in class you were WRONG.
Professor Coudert seems less interested in teaching the course material than she is with expressing her admiration of Michael Pollan. The lectures have almost nothing to do with with the weekly response papers. She spent almost every class period discussing current events that usually strayed far from the class' topic of Ethical Eating.
Allison is definitely not the best professor out there. Much of the reading is useless and going to lecture was more often than not a waste of my time. I e-mailed her occasionally and spoke with her once outside of class. She has interesting ideas on religious studies, but as a professor she was not helpful at all and is biased in her grading.
My most confusing and difficult class of the quarter. SHE FORGETS A LOT. In my case she graded me on someone else's work the entire time-- which then led to a very stessful time getting things in order during finals week. I took this class as a filler for 2 units, however she is so ridiculous in how she grades and doesn't really make sense.
One of the most horrible teachers I've ever had. She grades the papers like a serious writing teacher, criticizes on grammar mistakes in the paper, and makes useless comments pertaining to her beliefs of what you should write. If you write something she doesn't agree with, you automatically get a C. She is a very UNFAIR grader. DON'T TAKE HER!!!!!
this class was not interesting at all. the only thing the professor talked about was Pollan, which was not an interesting read. her hw assignments were just busy work that counted more towards your grade than the final and the midterm combined. a waste of time
I loved Professor Coudert. Best lecturer I had this year. Yes, there's substantial reading, but it's all so interesting! And if you do the reading on time, she does a fantastic job of tying it all together in lecture. Writing assignments are challenging - but you get out of them what you put into them. Go to her office hours - she will help you!
Really enjoyed the class. There was a lot of reading, but if you read her lectures would make a LOT of sense. But if you didn't read, she would do a really good job of giving the jist of the reading. She explained things in a somewhat comedic manner and made everything interesting. Weekly papers were okay, although sometimes confusing.
She changed her syllabus 3 times (once without the students knowing, so majority missed an assignment). very biast. trick for a good grade is to quote her in class and then incorporate her ideas into your paper. she will underlie them and write "great point". Had to read and write responses on the book she wrote. yup what a joke!
I took this class for two units during my first quarter at UC Davis. For the two unit class there was no midterm or final. Just seven one page essays and two get dropped, she even ended up canceling one of them altogether. Pretty easy, you dont have to go to every class and the essays sometimes can be done without reading the books
This Professor makes a mockery of feminism, free thought, and the entire education system. Her lectures are solely opinionated, pseudo-religious (mostly jewish) feminist jargon. Do not take this course unless you fit into this category, she grades based on whether your opinions are to her taste.
The syllabus was confusing, but overall it was a great class. You can tell that she really enjoyed teaching the material. She did want the short responses and essays to prove an understanding of the material and to have good grammer. I personally did not struggle with it and found the topics interesting. I would take Professor Coudert again!
I didn?t enjoy all the readings in this class, but Professor Coudert did a great job talking through everything, which gave me a new appreciation of what we?d read ? a mark of a good teacher! No midterm or final, just six written responses and some pop quizzes. Overall the class was very straightforward, I would definitely recommend her.
I came into this class thinking it would be super interesting, but I didn't like it much..but it did convert me into a vegetarian :) Lots of reading and written responses, but she drops the lowest response. Class isn't mandatory as long as you do the readings. Good TA's.
Class was kind of boring. Lecture seemed to take forever. Professor tried her best to make the material fun. She threw in little jokes and made it better. TA's usually grade the weekly papers, but Professor sometimes grades them (and grades them HARD). Overall, great class. Six papers, and midterm/final are written.
Professor tries to make class interesting, but they were extremely boring aside from a few interesting guest speakers. Written responses were cake and she only counts 4/6. Midterm & final (for 4 units) are similar, so final is easy if you do fine on the midterm. TA was GREAT and sections made the class a lot easier, def. take the class for 4 units!
Professor is great. She offered help and explained the readings well. Those of you who want to change the way you think about food - Take this class! One page responses were easy. Time passed by too quickly in this class.
Intelligent woman who cares about her students but she's confusing to follow in lecture and is pretty forceful about her opinions. She grades papers pretty hard but she's desperate for "everyone to get A's". She encourages everyone to come see her and email her with any questions though so that's a plus.
Lectures were useless, more than half the class only came to lectures the day a paper was due. High expectations for papers.
Dr. Coudert is one of the kindest women I have ever met. She cares deeply about each her students and always encourages the class to come to her office hours for any help. She is absolutely fantastic, and I would recommend her to anyone interested in a historical study of Christianity.
Dr. Coudert was a very thoughtful professor. Her main goal is for all the students to have learned something and pass the class. Four one page papers and a final paper. One got dropped and she let you rewrite one. Didn't go to like 14 of the lectures and passed with a B. She must have been a party girl in college. But loved her.
Professor Coudert was really respectful to her students, however I felt that some of her slides were mainly photos and quotes rather than actual notes. Some of her response prompts were really vague and it was hard to identify what the professor looked for when grading a certain responses due to the vagueness of the prompt topic.
The assignments ended up being more difficult than I anticipated, so if you take as an elective, I'd suggest taking passfail. She'll go over your thesis paragraph with you, which seems key to getting an A on the papers. No tests, but being a good writer and critical thinker seems important. You get to drop lowest score and rewrite one paper too.
Class was crime and punishment specific which was unexpected but not a bad thing. Fantastic guest speakers. Essays graded by someone different each time, but feedback is positive. Rewrites were allowed and final was simple. I'd def. take another class by her. Fantastic response time to inquiries.
I thought the class was interesting. However, she wasn't really clear about what she wanted with the essays but she would send an email giving advice as to what questions to answerthink about. Out of four 1-page single spaced essays, you could drop one and rewrite one. After figuring out what she wanted, the essays weren't too bad.
Coudert is a great professor passionate, available for talking, and interesting. Definitely attend office hours. But her paper graders are tough and biased, and the prompts are unclear. Several good writers would get poor grades on papers for not mentioning a point not clarified as necessary on the prompt.
Very knowledgeable, engaging, and friendly. Keep up with the reading and visit her office hours and you'll do well. She cares about grammar and syntax, so be sure to proofread everything carefully.
Professor Coudert is amazing! She's so incredibly knowledgeable and she's a great resource to majors interested in research. I appreciated the readings in this class, and though the material was challenging, Prof. Coudert was always willing to help.
By far my favorite class i've taken at Davis so far and my favorite prof. Going into the class, the syllabus sounds tough but it's not. Grade is made up of 4 1-page responses. As long as you have a strong thesis you pretty much get an A on the response. No final, just another response saying what you found most interesting. Love her to death!!!
I could never figure out what she wanted for the essays, she would always send us an updated prompt. Four essays, the fourth was the final, so we didn't have to go in for a final exam. Sometimes I felt that I was docked points for the positions I took on certain papers, but oh well, overall a pretty chill class.
Extremely helpful in office hours. Very kind and cares about her students. Her prompts for essays were confusing at times, but overall a very interesting class.
She is dope. Easy class. You don't even have to read because she tells you exactly what she wants on our one page papers. She even cancelled our 4th paper because she was tired. Our final we can do whatever we want, she does not care. And, if you don't like your grade, you can rewrite your paper. The lowest you will get is a B.
Professor Coudert was incredible! She got really into her lectures and I think the material was interesting. Sometimes they get a little dry, but participation helps. I went to maybe half of the lectures and came out with an A, so it isn't too serious. It's a 4 unit class with just 3 essays, some readings, and a final presentation in her dropbox.
Professor Coudert is funny, and although getting deep into the evils of the corn industry sounds pretty dry, she manages to keep you listening. She can have some strong, outspoken opinions about worldviews that aren't her own, but certainly doesn't ding you on points for writing with an opposing viewpoint. Participate, it makes the class better.
Professor Coudert's lectures we not boring and she has the unique ability to be able to keep you entertained. However, beware. Her opinions are VERY strong and unwavering and she brings her opinions into the class. All you need to do to pass is reiterate her opinions in your paper. However, if you feel like learning from your own views, do not take
The professor is amazing however can be very vague. Her class is very interesting, especially when there is debate during lectures where you get to hear out multiple point of views on controversial topics. One of my favorite classes. Her grade consists of 2 one-page essays and one final where you discuss a certain issue.
She really cares a lot about her students and is always responsive via emails. I had been touch with her throughout the quarter and she actually assisted me in picking my final project topic. Very easy, enjoyable, and straightforward course.
I'm conflicted about this class. The lectures are engaging and the workload is minimal, but the instructions/grading criteria for the few assignments in the class are very vague, which can make them stressful. Prof Coudert is nice but very scatterbrained and unorganized. If you're good at writing papers and like to debate, take this class.
3 one-page responses (60%) and a final project(40%). The responses are simple prompts like describe a meal or whats the real cost of fast food? As long as you write what she wants to hear, youll get a good grade. Go to class on days she discusses the response topic, write you paper on points she makes. Kinda wants you to eat less meat.
Easy grader, for the entire quarter it was 3 one page responses and a 10min final project (I just did a powerpoint). Honestly just listen a little to lectures and you'll be fine. I only did the reading required for the papers (so about 6 pdf files) and I did fine. Class kinda feels like vegan/organic food conversion class but its an easy A.
Power points are posted on Canvas, and attendance isn't mandatory. I went to lectures, but at towards the end of the corse this seemed unnecessary. No tests, just a few papers and a final project.
Allison was an amazing Professor, I hope to take her again for another UCD class!
Professor Courdert is really nice and caring. She makes an effort to learn people's names who speak up in class and cares about the students' opinions as well. No final exam, just a final project. Honestly, the lectures were summaries of the readings she assigns for that day. If you do the work, you should be fine.
Professor Coudert's ethical eating class was easy for me since she only required 3 response papers which are a page each and a final project. Her lectures aren't mandatory and can be boring but the material is decent. I would say her class was an easy A since there wasn't any homework or reading requirements.
Honestly she's a gem. She's very sweet and her exams are take home. She posts all lectures. The TA was the only downside to this course; she was a real nightmare.
Coudert was a sweet woman, however teaching wise she read off the slides the ENTIRE time. The TA didn't agree with her and would express that. Barely any sources given during lecture. If you want an easy A, this is the class for you. If you actually want to learn about real stuff, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS.
Professor Coudert is the sweetest lady. Lectures can be somewhat boring and most of them cover topics which seem to be just common sense. There was one midterm and a final each consisting of a few short answer questions and a short essay. Both were very easy. If you are looking for GE credit and an easy A, take this class!!
I can't recommend this class enough. It is so so easy, homework is usually just reading a short article and watching a short video. The concepts in the class are super easy to understand so you don't need to put a lot of work in to get a good grade. The midterm/final were both take-home and so easy. Prof is so nice and caring, 10/10 recommend.
Easy A. Take any class with her if you can. Barely did any of the readings but still got an A. I kid you not this class was prolly the easiest I've ever taken.
Its pretty simple class, all based on readings and what we talk about in class. She doesnt go in depth, if you actually want to learn something, don't take this class, but if you want an easy A thats upper division, take this class.
Shes honestly an easy class but shes so rude. She sent me a nasty email about my English and made comments and remarks about international students not having good grammar and stuff. She thinks shes woke but gives you bare minimum GE level analysis on things like race, economics, sexuality, gender, etc. learned nothing revolutionary from her
This class is one of the easiest GEs you can take at Davis and satisfies a lot of requirements. I did not attend a single lecture. It had 4 short quizzes (10 MC) which you had an entire week to complete. The Midterm was a bunch of short essay questions. Final Project took like 4 hours. Final Essay was an easy 2 page essay.
LOTS of reading. 5 quizzes most questions aren't multiple choice so you have to do the readings, they are soo long. There's a final essay saying what you learned and a final 10 min project. The final essay and project basically saved me because I went the entire quarter with a 70%. I thought I was going to fail so I did pass no pass, but got a B.
Extremely sweet and caring teacher. Lectures are a bit superficial and go in circles, but she's definitely passionate. LOTS of reading. Without the extra discussion, only grades are 50% weight midterm, 50% final - multiple choice and short essay responses but suddenly switched the final to a two-page essay. Overall great professor, easygoing GE.
Online midterm & final essay 2 pages single spaced. Final prompt asked what was learned in the course. She removed points for opinions being "too strong" despite them coming from her course lectures/readings. When I asked for a rubric to see how she graded, she did not provide it, which I would doubt was used at all to determine my grade.
She's nice but very frustrating. I had no issues with her grading, but she gave many students 50% on quizzes because she didn't like their ideas/grammar. She's unorganized. Gave us the 2 final exam essay questions in advance, told us to write them early, then proceeded to change the final after I wrote the essays because she "lost the assignment".
The professor really cares about the material, and it is interesting. However, it is unnecessarily difficult and the grading is extremely subjective making it nearly impossible to receive an A. Professors and TA look for very specific answers on open ended questions. Discussion is mandatory and you won't pass if you don't attend lectures.
The professor gives very vague instructions but then expects more when she grades. She grades unnecessarily hard and this class gave me an unnecessary amount of stress especially for a Ge. It honestly wasn't the material that made it stressful, it was the professor. Avoid taking a class with this professor!!
Even. though the professor is easy on her grades please don't share any information with this professor.
great professor Religious Ethics RST 10.
Good professor very articulate very nice person teaches religious ethics, great fun class.
Good professor of religious ethics, contemporary ethics. Dr. Coudert is an excellent scholar of ethics, really enjoyed the class and is a great class for me during my studies in philosophy.
good professor ethics.
good professor of ethics.
