read the text and do the work, she's nice and she's lenient
Amazing ... just amazing ...
cool teach
Interesting, not hard, and she's super nice. Good experience.
AMAZING teacher, very nice and lenient. really helps you out and makes everything clear. no classwork just group discussion. 3 papers total but little assignments in between. GREAT TEACHER !
She is funny and tries to get everyone to participate. If you do not read she will give you a pop quiz. She gives reading assignments every night and you must do them. Also there was a presentation. Her class is okay. I wouldn't pick her again though. She really tries to make it fun and is helpful if you stay after to ask questions.
She is a good teacher, and will help you individually
She is honestly SO particular and a very hard grader. Her assignments are rather confusing and the prompts are very difficult to write about. She is nice and funny occasionally but don't let that fool you. Other comp2 classes are MUCH easier. I personally didn't enjoy the professor.
I recommend you take this class, not only will you actually learn something but the class is enjoyable. She is an excellent professor and keeps the class active. She grades fairly; the grade you get is the grade you deserve.
She is really nice and helpful, but is a very particular grader. Attendance is mandatory and she gets mad if students don't read the readings that she assigns from the book(she'll wind up giving you a quiz on the spot if she notices a lot of students didn't read). I felt it was impossible to get an A on any paper. Always wound up with B's.
The essay prompts are incredibly boring. Although, she does give a decent amount of time to write the essays it's impossible to receive an "A". Overall her class is under stimulating and quite frankly lull some.I strongly suggest not to take her COMP I & then II class for fear of hearing her monotonous jokes.
Absolutely the most arrogant professor in FGCU. Extremely difficult to follow. She was not very helpful and defensive when you question her grade. I felt the positive comments about her were highly over-rated. If you are sincere about working for an A, avoid this instructor.
Extremely difficult to comprehend. Completed all assignments and I felt her grading was difficult to understand and quite subjective. She was behind on posting grades on time. I do not recommend doing an online class with her.
Extremely hard grader, her expectations for an A are impossible to achieve. Her lecture is easy, however, quizzes and exams are challenging. The grading scale is very different, in which its almost impossible to receive and A. She never posts grades and takes at least a month to grade papers and quizzes.
She was an amazing professor. I took her for both sessions of my composition class and she was always willing to help. She is very friendly, polite, and sweet; plus, she is a very fair grader. She usually assigns 3 papers total and you have to put some effort in if you want a good grade (I worked HARD for my A-), but passing is easy. TAKE HER CLASS
Very hard professor when she is grading your work. Very harsh in comments that she makes within your writting assignments. If you plan on getting an A in this course do not take it with this professor. Also, is very slow with grading assignments.
She is rude, and if you do not agree with what her opinion is, you're wrong. I was miserable every time I knew I had her class. She grades everything months an months later and never emails you back. I would find another teacher for whatever subject she is teaching.
I really thought I was going to enjoy this class but Dieppa ruined English for me. I didn't think I was going to hate it this much until I took British lit. Also her grading is so flawed, she doesn't grade based on quality of work but only if your interpretation of the literature matches her. DO NOT TAKE HER
She is a very tough grader, especially for an elective.
She really does want everyone to succeed, she's EXTREMELY clear, you won't ever be confused about an assignment. She's also super organized, it's easy to keep track with the class. Coming to class is for a grade, and yes she is a tough grader but I have yet to get an A on a paper. But besides that i would definitely take her again!
Most inconsiderate teacher I've had so far at FGCU. She grades everything with what she thinks and not with whats right. She is a science nerd so if you don't get science humor, don't expect to laugh often. Many in class quizzes and tests are relatively hard.
Dieppa is a good professor for Comp 1. She only assigned 4 papers (one is a research paper) and one group project for the entire semester. She is a tough grader, however. It is difficult to get an "A" on a paper. She is funny and sassy. Reading the text book is required, she sometimes gives quizzes on the material we were supposed to read.
I registered to take this professor, but some other person graded everything. Don't take on so many student if u push them off. Grading and feedback was simply ridiculous. You get points taken off papers for using college level words. You are supposed to expand your vocabulary in college but this class wants you to dumb down and use "simple words."
I took the class online, so I never met Dieppa or the other 7 graders for the course. She sent out 2 weekly reminders for that week's workload. Take advantage of the feedback tool before submitting any assignments. While discussion posts seem like a breeze, put in effort if you want the full credit. Tests are common sense and multiple choice.
She doesn't even grade any of your course work. I tried emailing her three times and never got a response. Would not recommend her!!!
She is an extremely tough grader. Writing is my strong suite and I did not pass because of a couple small things. I wouldn't recommend her
Didn't buy the book. Prepare to devote 1-2 hr/wk. I had to write 10 discussions, six papers, and take four tests. Discussions - Two paragraphs each, discussing the strategies learned Papers - All of them are specific scenarios with a SOLID grading rubric. Two of them are revisions of the first paper. Tests - BREEZE (if you read the FOP/Strategies)
This class is medium difficult. You have to be on top of your assignments to get a good grade. Lecture/discussions are based on the reading so it helps to be caught up. I think we did 3 papers the entire semester so I liked the fact that the lessons built up to acquiring the skills needed to write each paper.
I'm currently taking Comp 2 with Dieppa now, and so far, she seems pretty decent. She's a slow grader, but I believe she does care about helping her students. She is a bit of a tough grader, but it's almost better that way because you're getting honest feedback. hate her grading scale though, as you need an 86% to even get a B- and 93% for a-
Most arrogant professor I ever seen. The class itself is designed very poorly. You have a class of 100 students, and 3 preceptors who are grading your work. The people who are grading the work are not even experts in their field. Also, the feedback is very vague and very generic. Overall, this was the worst course I ever had to take in FGCU.
Professor Dieppa never graded my paper. There are three preceptors, and the one I had, gave very poor feedback on writing assignments. You're pretty much dependent on the lessons on the computer. This was a required course for me, and a good online course to take from home for summer credit. Grading is tough, feedback is poor.
This is an online class where you are 100% independent and the professor just grades the work. The class is easy, the assignments are easy (currently have a 90%, A), this professor however is a TOUGH grader and gives no feedback at all. In a writing course there is no way to improve if specific feedback is not given. Manageable, not recommended.
Literally such a tough grader that is actually leaves me with my mouth open. Basically impossible to get a 100% on anything she grades. Luckily, the class is graded well enough that I am passing with an A.
I really liked this class. I learned a lot that will help me for the rest of my life, in regards to professional writing. You need the book to help with exams and writing essays. There's 4 writing assignments, about 10 discussion posts, and 5-6 exams, and some tutorials. It's a good class and I love how she teaches it. Easy and fun comp class!
Her online professional writing course doesn't require much time but it's very hard to get a 100% on anything she grades, she tries SUPER hard to take points off. What strikes me is how shockingly passive aggressive and rude she is in her emails and other communications; it's quite disgusting, especially for someone teaching "professional writing".
AWFUL professor! So glad I did not have her in person, online was bad enough. She addresses her student's as "pawdawans" and demands respectful emails. Very unclear syllabus (wrong dates) on when & where to do assignments. Has these silly "badges" that require you to go on campus when you're taking it online. She's a very vague, bad communicator.
She doesn't even grade the papers, her TA does. I would not take this class unless your a business major; her class is built around preparation to write business oriented response even if you have no experience and do not plan to enter the blue suit work force. Lots of papers are left to your interpretation even with the standard rubric in place.
Literally impossible to get an A in, I'll take hours and hours on my papers and I KNOW they're good, but I still won't get higher than a C. Tests are hard even though they're online even looking through all powerpoints, etc. that we have access to. Grades very tough on discussion boards and it's overall just too hard for what it should be.
The professor is the toughest grader and really aims to take points off of the most meaningless things. Impossible to get an A. If you ask her for any help she dumps you onto someone else or tells your to call tech support. Thanks
Professor Dieppa has been my favorite professor so far at FGCU. It was a fairly easy class as long as you payed attention, showed up to class, and wrote your papers on time. She does care about her students and she's funny too. Really enjoyed her class.
Dieppa is a good online professor. Her canvas page, her homework, and her assignment instructions are VERY clear. She has set up this class well. I really enjoyed this class, and much of what I learned is applicable to the real world.
worst online class I've ever taken I get that she tries to really make you interact with canvas but it is just way too much she grades so hard on papers and big assignments by the end of the semester I was just getting so sick and tired of the amount of assignments she had us doing
Teacher gives 4 essays a semester relating to science. Also expects you to check the everchanging syllabus daily for homework/readings from textbooks.
She's energetic & you can tell she enjoys the subject she teaches. But she is a very slow and tough grader which are not a good combo. She grades as if people are taking this class to be English majors and not as a Gen Ed class. Her class is the first time I've ever gotten below a B+ on an essay(got a C). Her grading scale is weird too.
The most infuriating thing in college is taking an easy class but the professor makes it impossible to get an A due to her stubbornness. Dieppa makes the class way harder than it needs to be. She refuses to give anyone higher than a B on papers for no apparent reason. She would not even respond to emails if you didn't format them professionally.
Professor Dieppa grades SO HARD. She grades as if everyone taking this class had a Ph.D in English. She will take points off for anything and everything. It is impossible to get an A in this class as she will not give you higher than a B on any paper. Im not sure why she grades like this but it is unnecessary. Professor Dieppa is awful do not take
If you enjoy a decent GPA do not take. She will not give an A.
Honestly one of the worst professors I had at FGCU. I took this class during Summer B so it was online so I knew it was going to be challenging but did not know it would be this bad. She did not even grade our work the teacher assistant did. Most of her instructions did not make sense. I passed by the skin of my teeth. I would not take her again.
This professor is not willing to work with you at all. She will give instructions and then change them in an email so its confusing to know what to follow. She doesnt even grade most of her own assignments and all of the TAs grade differently as me and my classmates discovered
honestly suprised she doesnt have a higher rating. Shes nice and always avaible to answer questions even with an online class. Yes, there is work its because your in college but honestly not bad 3 tests, 3 papers and a dissuction post everyweek. also alot of options for extra credit
The most strict teacher I have ever witnessed. No matter how hard you work, dont expect more than a 70% on all of your assignments. If you use a similar template to other students on an assignment, you will get a 0 and either reported to the deans office or threatened even if the template is from the book. Beware of this teacher.
SHE IS TERRIBLE TO BE AROUND. Mean, manipulative, no problem humiliating individuals in front of the class. She’s on that “teachers high” where she just needs to assert her dominance 24/7. Everything she does is annoying. Slow af and can’t grade. She thinks she’s the best and everybody’s there for her. Like no sis I pay you.
If you are looking for an easy A, I'd suggest taking a different course. Assignments are graded a bit harshly, but if you did a good job, you shouldn't get a poor grade. Also, there is extra credit opportunities available if you give students constructive criticism on their writing assignments, so take advantage of that because it made my B+ an A-.
Expect for the Professor to not grade any of your assignments. The weekly papers/discussions get graded pretty harshly by different TA's. I found the weekly learning material to be vague in comparison to what was expected of us in our writing assignments. I also recommend doing the extra credit to boost your grade.
Extremely tough grader on papers, received a B- on a paper due to it being "overly formal". I've never once had below an A on any essay written throughout the years; the grading is irrational and blatantly biased. Inconsistent grading along with sporadic assignments that have nothing to do with course content are reasons to avoid this professor.
Honestly one of my favorite professors I've ever had. Tries to keep class fun. You're in college, participation and work ethic are expected of you. The content isn't too difficult and she's very forgiving when accidents happen. She actually grades things, no participation grading. 3 papers and she walks you through every step. Fantastic professor.
Took Dieppa for ENC 1102 & ENC 3250, would definitely take again if needed. Class consisted of 5 discussion posts, 3 guided practice, 3 unproctored tests, and 4 writing assignments. Provides extra credit for peer reviewing groupmates' writing prompts. Easy class, pay attention to the guided practice and do your work. Textbook not necessary
Professor Dieppa treats her students like first graders. Constantly doing pop quizzes too "discipline" students who do not do the readings. She will tell you to put your phone away during a lecture just like you are back in high school. Not a hard class, but she makes it hard to sit through.
Prof dieppa is very lecture heavy, and 90% of the time we have a quiz about the reading at the beginning of class, so skipping or absences are impossible to make up for. The lectures make class so long and unbearable, no curving and not many extra credits available. She treats her students like middle school kids, no phone policy/no leaving early.
I took her for LIT 2000 and I personally couldn't stand the way she leads her discussions. She definitely picks favorites and it's annoying. Be prepared for random quizzes after any readings. I got an A in her class but I wouldn't recommend her at all. I wish that I just took intro to lit with a different professor because she ruined my interest.
First, she's a really kind professor, but I took her for Lit 2000 and she was very boring. I regret it. Her class is 95% lecture heavy, while the rest is taking pop quizzes after readings. The readings are long and boring. I was forced to take this class because every other humanities class was full. I should've switched to another professor.
LIT 2000 - Take this professor if you want to have a miserable life & grades very harshly. I wouldn't even recommend her to my worst enemy. That's all I gotta say.
LIT2000: In my opinion, people leaving negative reviews are very unserious. As long as you do the readings, the pop-quizzes will be very simple. I found the in-class discussions to be very engaging and interesting. If you participate, you will get a lot of value out of the class. Take her if you can, she genuinely cares about her students.
I had a good time in LIT 2000. The quizzes were hard but ultimately fair. If you are mature enough to do readings before class (which are actually fairly short, longest was 12 pages if even), you can get an A. I always thought the discussions were pretty interesting too. In all a good professor.
I had Professor Dieppa for Comp 2 and I took her again for Professional writing. She is very kind and sweet. I did both online and they were not bad at all. However, if you are not good at writing, get ready to be toughly graded. She is serious about her papers. I thought I was a good writer, and I never got an A in any of my papers.
She is millennial humor at its finest. She does grade pretty tough though. I got points deducted on an annotations assignment. How can you annotate wrong?!? Pop quizzes here and there. I missed a class because I was sick and sure enough, it was a pop quiz day. Other than that she made me interested in the topic. The readings were long though.
Do not take this professor I had her for LIT 2000 first and took her again for Professional Writing. She was nice at first but in this class, she was hard to work with. She grades way too harshly and inconsistently. She didn't grade an assignment for 2 months and graded it the last week of school. I would email her and she never responded to them.
Grades way too harshly on her papers. The average grade on her main essays is 70-75%, with the highest grade averaging at around 84%. She is very polite but when it comes to your work she will mark you down on everything.
I would not take again. She expects you to understand the books after reading them once. Alot of pop quizzes. Does not give good enough instructions. Do not take.
So unresponsive. Clearly has no interest in the success of her students. Directions for assignments were poorly written out and corrections were not constructive. Should find a new profession because this definitely does not bring her any joy or fulfillment.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! There is no value; she is very late in grading and offers no constructive criticism. She fails to return emails in a timely manner. There is no logic or reason to her grading system, teaching methods or her review comments. As an educator, she fails in every respect, offering no encouragement or respect for her students.
It's a straightforward online course with four writing assignments, one revision assignment, four tests (not proctored), and discussion posts (no replying). I did well on the writing assignments because I attended her office hours. Some of her directions do not make sense, so if you take this class, go to office hours, trust me.
Lit 2000 - honestly don't know why she's getting hate, she's passionate about what she teaches and as long as you show up to her classes and read the material she assigns you will have an A. anyone who doesn't get an A in lit 2000 with Dieppa is being lazy. The pop quizzes are easy if you do the reading. Loved her tbh!
I only gave her 1 star because 0 wasnt an option.
This class strengthened my ability to analyze texts, but Dieppa made it more stressful than it needed to be. She grades inconsistently, and very slowly, and she expects you to fully understand the text after reading it once. Her online course is very organized at least. 2 proctored exams, 2 essays, weekly reading/annotating & discussion & lecture.
I took her class last semester actually and ever since have been thinking about taking another course with her. If you complete your work and participate in class you will do fine. I felt encouraged throughout the class to the point of reconsidering my major. I genuinely liked her not only as a professor but an individual as well.
One star only because zero isn't an option. Easily the worst teacher I've ever had. Takes forever to grade, expects full understanding after explaining things once, and holds grudges. The class has 3 papers and a proctored final. Very political. This is the first time I've rated a professor, she was that bad. I'm surprised she still has a job here.
She assigns a book that you have to read and annotate weekly. There are also weekly lectures (sometimes discussions). There are two papers/tests in the whole semester. She's a tough grader when it comes to the papers and the tests are monitored with dash cams.
Don't take her class. Doesn't follow her rubric for grading, grades off how she feels. Doesn't include all extra credit in your grade. She gives a "study guide" for midterm and finals that pretty much just says look over everything from that half of the semester, it doesn't help at all. Just overall a waste of time class that is miserable to take.
Give useless feedback, overall condescending. Wayyy to many assignments. I would do what was asked in the rubric and still receive 77s every time. Would not recommend. Do yourself a favor and take literally anyone else for Professional Writing. I created an account just to warn people against taking her class.
I don't know why there's so many bad reviews. Dieppa was honestly one of the best professors I've had. Each class I genuinely enjoyed and learned something. She was also very respectful and understanding. As long as you do the readings, participate and put in some effort you'll easily pass.
Took her for LIT 2000. Lots of reading required, and there are quizzes on each story read, but they are easy if you did the reading. I thought she was very nice and funny. Participation is somewhat of a grade.
Don't talk, don't go on phone, don't forget to read, don't talk to people in other classes, the list goes on. could have been a good professor but picks on students and has favorites.
Professor Dieppa was great. She clearly cared about the subject, making me care more. My only complaint was the group discussions near the end of the semester, if you were not one of the four students speaking that day, class was pretty boring and felt unnecessary. Before group discussions class was engaging and I felt like I learned more everyday.
Teacher gives out lots of work and was a struggle to work with. She showed no effort to help me understand her coursework and gave me little reasoning for bad grades.
Avoid her for LIT2000. She grades very harshly despite good work, especially on the few writing parts of this class(one of which includes sections of the final). Just avoid her. This school has good LIT professors. She is the only reason I don't have a 4.0. I have As in several STEM classes that should be way harder and take up less time than this.
