Mrs. Kang is a great teacher, super friendly and easy to work with. She has very clear lectures and is good at explaining things, although can move a bit fast. She posts all slides and notes online, which is nice. She uses a combination of in-class and online activities.
Allison is a good instructions, very open to questions and tries her best to help each student succeed. That being said, BIO 160 is an extremely challenging class due to the content regardless of who you take it with and it is clear a lot of people struggled. That being said, Allison is extremely friendly and always doing what she can to help out.
I had her for fall 2013 and I LOVED her. Sweetest science professor I've ever had and she was so approachable when It came to asking questions. She is tough but I enjoyed her so much that it made it totally worth it. Allison is great!
Prof. Kang is an outstanding professor! She is extremely kind and fully prepared to help her students learn. The resources she makes available are always worth reviewing and break the hard stuff down. Go to lecture everyday, it's not hard when prof. Kang is so ecstatic about biology!
Allison is really a great professor. Her lecture is clear and her test is easy if you did the study. She is always welling to answer question and gives a lot of office hour. Really recommend her
Her lectures are pretty good, she does offer A LOT of help outside of the classroom before and after class. Super approachable and will answer questions in as much depth as you need. Her 'reviews' aren't so great, but she has study guides for every chapter online, lots of resources to use. Exams are all multiple choice with a few short answer.
A friend suggested I take her class and I'm glad I did. She is really nice, understanding, and knows what she is talking about. I'd recommend her class to everyone that needs BIO 160 as a prerequisite.
This class isn't extremely hard but you need to put in the time to earn a good grade. Allison is very nice and is excited about biology which makes the class worthwhile. Tests are a little difficult and make sure you study the book in addition to her lectures. I would recommend her to anyone needing to take this course. I worked hard and got an A.
She is fantastic! I enjoyed class.
First off, reading off a powerpoint isn't teaching. I can do that at home. The only reason I go to class are the ambiguous daily questions she has about her lectures worth about 3 points per day. Cannot make these points up. The topics on the slide are not elaborated unless you read the textbook. Lot of facts, but the facts aren't tied together.
I took her for Biology 160 and she was okay, but I think she is more for auditory learners so if you are a visual learner I would not recommend taking it with her. Her exams were straight forward and if you study, you will get an A.
Very interesting and engaging! I love a professor who I can talk with. Easy going and helpful, not too much homework.
Seemed like this professor had no idea what she was talking about. Only expanded on material when a colleague was evaluating her. Created packet covering irrelevant material based on a high school textbook that students had no access to. Very general lectures, but had detailed yet ambiguous tests questions. Hard class to begin with, why make harder
Overall, she is a nice teacher, but her class lecture will not help you in the exam. You must read a lot and look up terms you never learn before. Lab are easy and no homework. Class avg exams mid 67-70.
I loved Allison! She's very kind, helpful, and cheerful. You have to read the book and come to class for lectures in order to understand the material. We do labs every tues and thurs and she clearly lets us know what she expects us to do. There are 3 exams and a final. If you study each chapter thoroughly, you should do fine. I recommend her class.
DON'T TAKE HER BIOLOGY 108!!! super long lecture, exam are not based on lecture. There is no way to study. Class average of exams are about 60...... Final is cumulative
Nice person. she doesn't know how to teach. Exam questions are not covered in class. Class average for exams are about 60 something.... If you want an A in bio don't take her class
This class is truly a waste of time and effort! No matter how hard you try, you will not receive the grade you deserve. She often grade her exams wrong too..... Seriously!? I regret taking this class with her. I was a 4.0 student, but this class just ruined everything.......
The average of every exam is 60-70 that makes student feeling unmotivated. The context is too intense for a 100 class and the final is accumulate which means 18 chapters. I don't see why there are people think she is a good instructor, yeah a nice person but there are so many cases showing she obviously didn't prepare before teaching. Just dislike.
You need a photographic memory for every detail for pictures and fight for your answers. She does not guide labs well and expects expert knowledge of very specific information. Her lectures are not worth the time because they are highlights, but you need the points from clicker questions.
You will get an A in this class if you are prepared to work hard and be on top of all the assignments and readings. Good lectures, open note online quizzes each week, and moderately easy labs. She'll post printable PPT slides to take notes on since the material goes by fast. Having a smartphone is handy for in class open note quiz questions.
She doesn't teach so much as just give powerpoints that you can get online. She isn't very clear in regards to labs and lectures. I signed up for MTTh and I'm doing work on those days plus three more! It's very online based outside of class almost like a hybrid, which I did NOT sign up for. I have to teach myself from the book. Will not take again.
The exams are very hard. You need to study everything by yourself and don't expect anything from her lecture. The lecture won't help to get 50% of the Learn Smart quizzes and exams. You actually just need to sign up for class, stay at home and study by yourself then come to class to take the exam. YES. It's all on you. Very poor lecture.
Literally the worst teacher at BC. Completely awful. Nothing in the lecture is relevant to tests or quizzes. Stay away.
HORRIBLE. Nothing on the exams was revelevant to what we actually learned in class. She must have had pre made exams because the average exam grade for that class is 60%. She told my class to specifically study a certain chapter for the final; there was NOTHING in that chapter that was on the final, and it was all on the earlier ones. Stay away.
Excellent teacher. Allison is very engaged both with the material and her students, gives clear, well-thought-out lectures, and many opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester. Do not miss labs - you can't make them up. Expect to work hard - tests are manageable if you prepare for them and don't cram. Not an easy grade. But great class.
i am shocked at all the bad feedback allison got. This teacher is AMAZING. was the class easy? far from; one of the hardest i have taken actually.. but i would take her again in a heartbeat. this was a hybrid class. But she's super understanding, works with you, loves to help and just great all around.
Ms. Kang is a great teacher. Although the class might seem really bad in the beginning, she is actually very fair and just. Online homework is hard to get a 100% but you can still get an A in the class. Memorize every question on the exam study guides and you will ace the tests. Get a good lab partner.
Allison is a teacher that sounds like she can really help you. I have never gone in and have her help me because instead I go to the tutoring available on campus. The tests are hard so study well. She doesn't give out practice exams and she depends on you to do it on your own. She gives you resources to use but they are not all that helpful.
She's a great instructor. You can ask her questions about anything your stuck on and she will explain it well. The quizzes are open book but do make you think while the exams are much easier but require you know understand the fundamentals of the subjects learned. Overall great teacher and person in general. I highly recommend take her class.
Her lectures are very hard to understand and her power points are not very helpful. Tests are extremely tough.
Uses technology very effectively in class. HW is all online and grades get posted quickly. If she knows that a chapter has been hard on students in the past, she'll go over it again and again... and again. Lol. Some days were easy, some were rough, but there's no reason you shouldn't do well in this class. Labs weren't tricky either.
This was a tough class, but if you put the effort in you will we rewarded. Kang is very helpful and easy to approach, and her lectures and Powerpoints are easily accessible and easy to understand. I wouldn't want to take BIOL160 from anyone else. She always offers after class help and has test review sessions.
Allison is incredibly nice, helpful and knowledgeable. The class is very time consuming with homework and quizzes, along with studying. Some of the labs were interesting and she tried to make the lectures interesting. Overall great teacher.
I really enjoyed this class! Prof. Kang made biology an enjoyable learning experience, and that is great for an intro class! Exams are a significant part of the grade. There is a hefty amount of homework per week, but mostly just online. The labs are pretty easy, and aren't graded very harshly. Try and attend class, but you won't fail if you skip.
I love Allison's teaching. Bio 160 was my first course back in a college setting in many years, and she made it inspiring and informative. You'll work hard and exams are closed-book and not super-easy, but don't take her for an easy grade - take her because if you're into the biological sciences, you'll be in good hands with her.
She always wanted the students in her class to succeed, so she was available after class and answered any questions you has during in-class activities as well as labs. If you forgot your lab manual at home, she was very lenient and allowed you to still participate. Her tests are primary focused on her lectures, which are interactive and engaging.
She is honestly so sweet, I loved being in her class. Pay attention during lectures and take lots of notes and you will pass. Her lectures are on certain days and are not mandatory to attend, if you cant make it, just access her power points online. Amazing professor with pretty easy test (multiple choice and a couple short answer).
She was amazing! The lectures were often slow enough to be able to follow easily and the labs weren't that hard at all. Prelabs took 20 minutes, tops. Weekly quizzes, but they were harder than the tests and the hw was online and built so you read the textbook and practiced at the same time. Would definitely recommend this teacher!
Allison is awesome. She is very patient and always willing to help. She has even helped me in a different biology class when I was no longer her student. She explains things clearly and cares. Highly recommend.
Lectures are easy to follow, she always hangs around after class for questions and she's very easygoing. I was nervous about the class but I ended up enjoying it a lot because she makes it understandable. You will have to focus some time to read the chapters but the app we use makes it easy-it highlights the stuff you need to know.
Allison is sooo nice and sweet. However, all her lectures are long and dull, so it was hard to pay attention. Labs were interesting though. She doesn't give you study guides for the exams, so you have to go over powerpoints, slides, textbook yourself. She uses learnsmart for homework and weekly quizzes. Just make sure you study up on the materials.
Loved this teacher! All you need to do to study for her tests is do learnsmart practice quizzes and if you do well on them you'll ace the tests. Test questions were just like homework. Labs are mandatory and she always uses them to help you further understand the chapters. If you put the work in you can get an A
Ms Kang is really caring and walks the way to make sure everyone understood important concepts. Despite the class being an online class, she sacrifices her time to go over the subject. Definitely will take another course with her.
she is one of the best teachers I've took in BC. Her ppt was helpful and almost detailed in everything she went over in class. Need to get reading before the class. Because this is not an easy class a lot things have to memory. 3 exams plus 1 final exam, she would dropped one lowest score and an extra credic was provided.
Not an easy class, but Allison is fair and makes otherwise dry and confusing subjects incredibly interesting and even funny. Expect at least 15 hours a week of reading, additional study, homework, quizzes, etc. Great use of technology, and very prepared. I wish she taught more classes at BC.
Very very very tough grader, very unforgiving, a lot of homework, and unlike what others say, sometimes she is not very clear, she splits us into groups in the beginning of the quarter, but then we never work with our group. very heavy exams, you have to memorize everything, sometimes I dont even get what she is taking about, don't take her.
I had her for biol160 she did great at explaining difficult topics. Their is a lot of memorizing as with any science class. Weekly homework, 3 exams and 1 final and she'll drop the lowest scored exam. Extra credit is available.
Allison is very good at teaching Biology. She is clear, and clearly knows a lot about biology. the homework assignments are easy to complete in the allotted amount of time and they help you learn the material really well. but, if you want to slack off, don't take this class. tests are averagely hard.
Allison was awesome! Her lectures are interesting and helpful. She loves the subject, and made me love it, too. I would 100% take another class with her!
heavy test! don't take her class if you wanna keep your GPA high!
She is a nice teacher, however tests are a huge percentage of your grade. So if you don't do well on the tests you'll have a hard time getting a good grade in the class.
I dont remember the specifics of this class, but I do remember that she was very kind and sweet (most likely still is) and that her class wasnt difficult at all. Just pay attention!
Prof. Kang is one of my all-time favorite professors. She goes out of her way to accommodate her students, provides extra credit to give an extra edge to those who study, and is very clear with her expectations. I was really bummed when I found out she doesn't teach any higher level courses, but she set me up with a good foundation.
This was a hybrid summer course, w/ exams &labs in class 2x a wk & all other materials (lectures incl. online). Focus on the material in the lectures and use the book to supplement. Easy to understand lectures, multiple extra credit chances, uses Connect for wkly quizzes and assignments, & fairly easy multiple choice w/ a few short answer on exams.
I love Professor Kang. She is absolutely caring and wants everyone to do good in BIOL 160. I took this class during summer and it is a condensed, 7-week quarter. Be prepared to study and participate weekly on canvas. I will definitely take her classes in the future.
I had this professor and I remember she looked at me and she just looked at the other students and she was like "No". Like she never taught anything the whole class I had her.
I took her for summer quarter. If you want to do that, you'll have to teach yourself quite a bit. Especially in the summer, you'll really be relying on the smart textbook which is great by the way. As long as you do the work, not too hard to get an A
She is very organized with her assignments, tests, and lectures. Her lectures will follow the textbook, and assignments and quizzes were on scheduled days, ex: assignments due online on Wednesdays, quizzes due online Sundays. She is very kind and will gladly help you with any questions you have.
Allison was wonderful! Labs twice a week, 3 exams and a final. The course was very interesting. I highly recommend Allison!! You will learn a lot and she is very helpful!
Took her for an online class, she was really well organized and the expectations for the class were clear from day one. Labs due every Friday and reading HW due on Sundays. Two tests throughout the quarter. I'd definitely take her again, she responded to any emails I had really fast, by far the best online professor I've had at BC.
She is just Perfect, if you wanna understand everything perfectly take her class, theres online quizzes every week and lots of examples and problems that you can work on. She is a good grader and very kind! Tests are from only the things she covered. Spends a week on one chapter. She is just perfect.
Allison is the most caring teacher that I have ever learned from. Her heart and mind are completely focused on her work! Be prepared to give as much effort as she does in order to really learn the material and come out of this class a better student that is prepared to move onto the higher level sciences, or walk away with a great intro to Bio!
Uses Pearson heavily, but read the chapters, and you'll be fine. Provides lots of EC. Super nice. Exams are multiple choice and easy, just review vocab. 1 midterm covering chapters 1-5, and final covers chpts 6,7,10,12.
Allison was one of my first professor at BC and I just LOVED her, she is amazing, perfect lectures, perfect exams, so fair and always goes through students problems. I would take her again for sure!
She is caring and patient teacher that will always provide extra materials and time for the students to master the concepts being studied. There are lectures that I advise to be watched after reading the material in the book. There are 3 big quizzes and a final, which is cumulative. Study for all 3, or you will get a low grade on the last.
Allison was an amazing bio160 teacher! Its not the easiest class and there are labs every week, but if you try and show up to class then you will do just fine. She is extremely nice and made me feel welcomed whenever I had a question outside of class. Really easy to meet with during office hours and an all around nice person! Definitely recommend.
Allison is amazing! She really cares about the success of her students and is very communicative even if you need help outside class she is willing to work! Labs are easy and interesting. She uses a variety of different assignments but if you pay attention they are easy. Two exams probably should study but not too difficult! highly recommend
As long as you show up and try, you can pass. Just requires some effort but Allison is very straight forward and you'll know what to expect.
Allison is super caring for her students and is always willing to answer questions even during office hours. All she wants is for her students to succeed. Labs every week and quizzes once a week. 3 exams, dropping your lowest, and a final. You will need to study outside of class but as long as you show up and try it's an easy A.
If you don't attend class, you're going to miss basically everything, she's a really tough grader, even if you are 0.1 or 0.2 from a good grade she won't change it, her lectures are incredibly boring and it's straight up from the book so reading it yourself would help you out a lot more. You have to take lots of notes and do a quiz every week.
Very boring online class and tough grader. A lot of robotics quiz practice and heavy homework, and really upset for her class. not recommend her at all.
Allison is a really knowledgeable and caring teacher! She is extremely nice and always is visibly happy to be in class. The class is not easy but its not hard by any means. By studying for 2 hours, I would be able to get As on the tests. Must show up to class for labs, just as any biology course. If you put in effort you will get an A!
A lot of homework and very heavy assignments, tough grader, very boring and rush lectures, no time for explain and discussion, robotics grading system, students felt hard to ask her questions and share thoughts. Not recommended her at all. Very upset her online teaching format. Not recommended at all.
Professor Kang was super caring and understanding, I loved that the course was fully unlocked so if you wanted to, you could crank out the course over the weekend. I learned a lot and she gave plenty of extra credit opportunities, highly recommend.
Professor Kang is a gem! Very accessible and thoughtful. Tests are proctored, and remote labs are sometimes confusing but thats not her fault. Overall a great Bio100 class!
The teacher is always available. There is a lot of reading. The homework does take time but if you time it out you will be fine. The quizzes aren't too hard. You have to do each part of the homework to get an A on the tests. The study guide read through the textbook very well, and sometimes very specific details as well. Teacher is understanding
Very kind. Available in office hours. Hw is very easy. Cheat sheet allowed on tests, but not needed if you read the textbook. All assignments made sense and connected to the tests and what we were learning.
expect a lot of quiz-like assignments via mcgraw-hill connect. easy as long as you dedicate time to study and prepare notes ahead of time for the weekly quizzes.
Allison has prepared for her class, lecture and lab; while Alison don't have power to support you if you have experienced by bully at biology class. Bellevue College Admins continue the cycle of systemic abuse, inequity, and oppression. The administration system makes students feel really upset.
Prof. Kang wanted students to succeed. Quick replies to emails, frequent office hours, set up chats/study groups for students. Weekly work: 2 homework assignments, 2 short virtual labs, 1 quiz. I'd say ~2/20 questions per quiz were tough, otherwise a simple class. Overall, great for an online asynchronous course.
Professor Kang is clearly knowledgeable in the course content. The class is very organized. Weekly quizzes, only test is the final. Uses the textbook a lot for assignments. If you study using the study guide assignments you'll do well. Very nice and lighthearted professor. Drops a quiz and also offers lots of extra credit opportunities.
She was a great teacher and genuinely cares about her students. She's always available if you need extra help. But there are weekly assignments, quizzes, and study guides to complete. If you have the motivation, it shouldn't be too tough for the assignments but the quizzes are a challenge.
Professor Kang was a great teacher, while I didn't try my hardest in the class I still received an A-, which considering the amount of effort I put in the class, really was a great choice of a teacher and class. Would say if you have a decent amount of common sense, the weekly quizzes are easy, the only tough thing about the class is the final.
Allison was an amazing professor! You can tell she really cares about her students and tries her hardest to help them succeed. Very accessible outside of class, and is a very pleasant professor! I took her hybrid class and attendance is super important. She gives 1 make up lab and not attending every class was what hindered my grade the most.
The only thing that was tough was studying for the quizzes, sometimes the questions didn't fully line up with the study guide and it was difficult to figure out how to study best for them. Didn't matter though, she gives a ton of extra credit opportunities and it the sweetest person ever. Always available outside of class and willing to help.
I loved this online class! Fun virtual labs, no buying a textbook. There is an awesome virtual textbook that has "smart book" assignments which I genuinely found fun. No final exam! Many assignments were purely participation points, if you did it you get 100%. Get 2 tries on all quizzes and allowed a page of notes. Great lectures too
This class was extremely heavy and hard she was a very sweet person, but she expected us to do 2 to 5 worksheets every week quizzes every Tuesdays with 22 questions as well as taking questionnaires every Wednesday or Thursday online and then labs every Thursdays.she will run the class time farther than class is scheduled so u end up having more HW.
I really appreciate professor Kang. As a single parent that works full time. She was very accommodating. Accepted late assignments she drops your lowest quiz score. Quizzes and exams are all multiple choice and are on lecture and study guide material which makes it easy to study. wants you to pass.
Ms. Kang is really great and makes the class fun. She is really caring with his students. The quizzes are really easy you just need to study the papers that she gives and the text book. I study like 1 hour 3 days a week and it was perfect.
If you don't like biology, prepare to have your mind blown. Professor Kang makes the class so intriguing that its honestly impressive. I personally only took this class to knock out some credits, but it turned out to be a very enjoyable class. Its fairly easy, and the labs are never boring. Mrs. Kang, please adopt me.
If you do everything assigned in the class, you would have to actively try to fail the class. She is very nice, cares a lot about student success. Weekly quizzes, and a lot of assignments. She drops your lowest quiz score and offers extra credit on every quiz and also on a few end of quarter assignments. No in class lectures, all online.
I took FYS with her last year (had to put this out there bc it was so bad) and she was awful. She simply flipped through PPT slides and would often go into great detail about her personal life. We spent one class having her monologue about a weird dream she had. I didn't take this class to be her therapist. I skipped half the classes and got an A+.
Professor Kang is a very caring professor who is willing to answer any questions you have. The amount of information you must learn is heavy and lectures are long, but if you stay ahead by using the weekly schedule, you will be fine. The exams only asked questions relevant to the lectures and pre-written notes. No outside information needed!
very professional and kind. good resource for bio majors!
I was dreading taking a Bio class but Allison was a great prof. A good amount of homework but they are all easy and quick assignments. The quizzes aren't too bad either but they are proctored. You can use one page of notes during it which is very helpful.
I really liked her, but she would just read off a PowerPoint slide, you will have to teach yourself. There are weekly quizzes, which are relatively easy as long as you study using the slides provided in class. No homework as long as you do everything during class time.
