Great teacher. Very good at doing examples and will try to do her best to grade fairly.
Very good at examples of complex material. Encourages in-class interaction/group activities. If I had to take another econ class, it'd be with her. Also very fair with grading.
Great teacher, made material seem easy, fair grader and made class fun with different projects. Also quite the looker.
She takes concepts that could be difficult and makes them easy. If you can do all the homework problems, then you're MORE than prepared for the test. She hands out a practice test that is almost identical to the actual one, so study that. She responds quickly to all emails, and she's a very good professor.
Economics isn't a particularly interesting subject, but she makes it bearable. She understands that most of the information is easy, and accommodates that well. Even with no economic experience, you should be able to get out of this class with a high grade. Exams are easy, labs are easy, and homework is easy. It's easy.
Tries to cover a lot of material in one class, difficult to keep up in notes. Funny-ish lady. test questions harder than hw
She is SO boring. Terrible class. She adviced me to buy the online version of our text book that comes with the homework without even bothering to tell me that it wasn't the textbook for the class. She is completely useless and doesn't know what she's talking about. Her ability to teach the concepts she understands is sub par. Don't take her class.
She's a nice teacher. Class is mandatory. Some test questions are quite tricky so make sure you double check your answer.
I loved the smaller class. The experiments were fun and she engaged the class instead of just lecturing at us.
Dr. Reed is by far my favorite professor! As a first year student, her class was the one I looked forward to most (which I never expected as an Engineering major). She does demonstrations in class that really help you master the concepts and imagine them in a real scenario. Take her class if you have the option!
Professor Reed goes through the PPT slides really fast, but the material is extremely easy coming from someone who knew nothing about Econ. She was super nice, helpful, and easy! You don't need to purchase the textbook because all the test questions come from her lecture notes.
SUCH an easy class. Everything is clear and to the point.
ALR is a very good professor but can be a little moody sometimes. Definitely recommend her though. Her class is pretty simple: do the homework, practice tests, and lab assignments and you'll do fine. Also reading the book helps DRAMATICALLY. Going to class is a must and so is note taking and paying attention. Tests are a little hard so study hard.
Do your work in this class and you'll be fine. To be fair I had econ in high school, but I know people who didn't and got the same grade as me by reading the book. Takes attendance everyday, so show up. "Lab" success depends entirely on easiness of the TA.
Loved her teaching style. Was very helpful and gave amazing lectures. Buy and read the book to supplement her lectures. You will learn a lot!
The book you have to buy is written by her and it SUCKS. Not written like your typical text book which I hated. She gives out practice tests which are helpful but her lectures and book are not very reliable for preparing for tests
She takes attendance every day which is part of your grade and has printouts of the notes online. The lectures were clear and the lab portion of the class was very easy. There was lots of memorization but the tests were straight forward. I defiantly recommend her if you have to take Econ.
Spends way to long in class with useless demonstrations instead of teaching. Her tests are not worded correctly so be prepared to spend 5 minutes per question to make sure you are putting the right answer. Concepts are easy but she cannot teach well.
I had to take an econ class for the general education requirements and I'm glad I picked this section. Professor Lowe-Reed made the class as simple and straightforward as anyone could hope for, with the only downsides being the Friday labs that don't add much to the course and the occasionally mind-numbing lectures (material is easy, but sizable).
Lowe-Reed is an ok professor! Her lectures are straightforward! The mandatory labs in this class were basically pointless, though.
Allison structures her lectures as to not bore her students to death. Homework and lab are extremely easy. If you don't pass this class, it's your own fault.
This class is by far the easiest I've ever taken. I paid attention in class most days, which wasn't difficult because she really engaged students. Oh, and there was candy sometimes. I did read the textbook always though, just for further clarity, but you could probably pass without it. Great teacher & I would definitely recommend taking her class.
Easiest class EVER. She covers everything on the test so you won't be surprised when you get to it. Ask questions during the test and they give you the answers! Lectures are engaging. Print off the slides before class and take notes in class and you'll never have to use the textbook! Less than an hour of homework a week. TAKE THIS CLASS.
She was good, made everything clear. would recommend
Probably one of my favorite classes so far at State. The course was easy, Dr. Lowe Reed made it hard to do poorly in her class. Take her class it if is available!
Her lectures are pretty interesting and she throws in some entertaining elements. I definitely learned a lot in this class. The homework is not too demanding nor too frequent. Hope you get a good TA though.
Great instructor. Super nice and helpful. Attendance is mandatory. Lectures are interactive and not too boring. One homework assignment given per week, super easy. Only two tests the whole semester, if you study you will do fine. Lab once a week that is easy and kind of pointless. I recommend taking Ms. Reed's class.
Lowe Reed is one of the best EC201 teachers. She clearly knows the material and how to explain it in ways where students get it. There are 2 tests, 1 short essay, and one homework assignment per week. Lab is your chance to test the material you learn in lecture so take advantage of it. Highly recommend her class.
Dr. Lowe Reed makes Economics as simple as possible to understand. Instead of saying random abstract concepts she really "dumbs it down" in a good way. Her tests are very fair and I liked the class enough to become an Econ major.
I took EC201 for my gen ed and landed in ALR's class. She makes the class very easy to understand and makes a point of saying everything on her tests comes directly from lecture slides. If you're looking for an easy GPA booster, take this class.
This class was definitely my easiest class first semester of freshman year... she explains the material in very simple examples that freshman in high school could still easily understand. Don't ask dumb questions in the middle of class because she will make you feel dumb. I scored 100% on the first test but the lectures got boring towards the end
I had to take this class since First Year Engineering students need Economics. ALR is a great lecturer and is very helpful. She is very clear and concise. Her class made me want to minor in Econ. There is one hw assignment online a week, if you use the textbook they should be an easy 100. Two tests that are fair. Easy A.
OMG SHE'S THE BEST! I never shut up about how cool she is! It's extremely rare to find a professor that's able to make an 8:30 class so much fun. Also, the first slide of her first lecture (my first lecture ever at NC State) had GTA V's box art on it! I WAS LIKE YO! AND I DON'T EVEN LIKE GTA! Not to mention her fun "chocolate" demos with volunteers
she is the best teacher. I had the same class ith somebody else and i can tell what the difference she makes when she teaches:)
One of my best teachers this semester! So funny and her lectures make the material so easy to understand. The textbook is good to just go over a topic if you didn't fully understand it in class.
At NCSU, Economics is required of many students that are majoring in things very different from economics and business; ALR knows this and it shows. She gives good clear lectures that cover all of the material. She is very easy to pay attention to. The hardest part of the class, for me, was the weekly homework, as they were often worded awkwardly.
Take Allison Lowe-Reed! She is a great lecturer, but even better one on one. Go to class, do the homework, and visit office hours and you'll get the basics of economics down pat in return.
10/10 would recommend! Her lectures are engaging and she explains economics with such simplicity, you barely have to do any studying on your own if you just go to the lectures. Added bonus: she has a great personality and is guaranteed to make you laugh!
Lowe-Reed is passionate about economics and this class was simple: attend class, takes notes, study them, attend lab and do your work then take a test. The subject is not difficult and Lowe-Reed is excellent in explaining the curriculum.
Amazing microeconomics professor! I could reiterate all of the comments below, but honestly, just take her class.
I love her! She is laid back and so awesome! Economics is tough at times, but she works with you. Just listen in class, read the textbook, and do the assignments and you'll be fine. Go to her if you need help, she loves getting to know her students :)
I took this class over the summer. She is an amazing professor who is passionate about the subject and her class is decently lecture heavy. If you pay attention in class you barely have to study outside class and she has really less homework. She is really funny and her lectures are really interesting. Definitely take her if you can.
Frickin love Allison. Her class is easy especially if you're interested in the subject matter. She is probably the best lecturer I've yet to have. Very engaging, encourages/demands people to ask questions, even in a 300 person class. Pretty easy hw once a week and frequently let's you out early
Shes an awesome professor. Class was really straight forward and as long as you take notes you will do fine. Only 2 tests and a final and then simple HW once a week! Really good at getting everybody interested and involved even in a 300 person class.
She hates laptops. Dont bring them.
Professor Lowe-Reed was a great professor. Her lectures were very interactive and while we covered a lot of material, she made sure everyone understood it. The tests were a bit tricky and she's a tough grader. However with the pandemic she has been extremely adaptive and thoughtful to make sure the class ends well for everyone.
ALR was great. id never taken an econ class before and this was a great intro. pay attention in class and you will be well-prepped for the tests. she makes the book optional but id say get it. it has chapter summaries great for studying especially for the final. shes a really nice prof and was very responsive to emails etc. would def take again
Very knowledgeable and funny but will make you work hard! Only 2 exams and a final with a smattering of quizzes and homeworks in between. Gave her a 3 because to me, she could have explained some parts of the class better but she did an awesome job dealing with corona and made the final optional!
She is such a sweet and understanding professor. Her classes and exams are straightforward and not hard as long as you pay attention and take notes on the slides. I would definitely take her again.
ALR is a great lecturer (I watched the recordings) and she seems really organized. She's very clear about how to get the grade you want, and she's really great with questions. I felt like the textbook was a little unnecessary, but it was helpful for studying. Great class.
ALR is a phenomenal professor. She is sweet and kind and genuinely cares ab students. If you are taking it online, watch the lectures, take notes and you will do fine. The textbook was okay (I dont think it was necessary) but it did help in studying!
She is such a sweet professor! You can tell she knows what she is talking about as an economist. She makes her lectures interesting to watch! Just go to class and pay attention and you will do just fine on tests. Love her!
Lectures are fun, ALR is very nice and definitely knows what she's teaching. There's not much work at all in the class. Hold off on buying the textbook, I didn't and did not need it at all
Ms. Reed is lit she has a sense of humor and she is good at explaining economics. I never used the textbook but I still got an A so if you're ever confused then just google. The labs are meh but her lectures are fun.
Prof. Lowe Reed is a great lecturer and very interactive in her Top Hat questions and lectures. She explains Econ concepts well and is accessible for questions. Textbook is unnecessary as long as you pay attention to her lectures. Only complaint is she takes 3 pts off everyone's grade and allows you to get them back via three extra credit points.
Mrs. Reed's grading system is very strange and not thought out. She has "extra-credit" assignments which will actually count against you. The material covered isn't hard, yet the class average was stated around 74% so that should tell you something. The clarity of this class definitely fell short, especially for a required PCOM class like this.
Professor Lowe-Reed is a great professor. She is always really nice and funny. I had her online and she was still really interactive. She asks tophat questions for participation and you need to pay attention in class to get them right. If you go to class and study the material, you'll do good!
ALR was my favorite professor this semester by far. Her lectures are great and the work outside of class is not bad at all. You most likely won't need the textbook, I used mine maybe once. She truly enjoys what she does. 100% take her for Econ if you have the chance.
This is a pretty simple class. Go to class, do the homework, go to lab, and it is really easy. She is very understanding and gave me a chance to take the final after I misunderstood the time it was supposed to be. She is awesome and very clear with what she teaches.
Professor Reed is one of the nicest professors I have had. You can tell she really cares about her students and takes the time to answer any questions. Make sure you go to class though because she uses Top Hat as a participation grade, but you can also watch from Zoom. She explains everything really well.
Easy class if you just pay attention. Lenient grader, with lots of knowledge about economics. Only a few tests, which for the most part are common sense combined with course knowledge. Labs and projects were fun and pretty straightforward. Definitely recommend this to anyone who needs an EC 205 credit.
This teacher is the worst teacher I have ever experienced. She posted videos on her Moodle page that took about an hour to watch that taught me more than all of her lectures combined. Every test had an issue, she tries to make trick questions but ends up putting two correct answers for the question. Class is easy so take it if you want an easy A.
This class was really hard for me because I have no experience with ECON, and Professor Lowe Reed caters mostly to finance students. She blazes through a ton of topics in one semester and I honestly have no idea what is what from that class. If you feel you can handle the subject without much help, take this class though- it's graded easily.
I do not recommend this professor. She was very annoying and her course is unforgiving. Her tests confuse me and I got B's and one low A, I feel fearful for the final. She thinks she can do no wrong and boasts about not replying to emails. Her demeanor was not appealing in the slightest and it was hard to learn from her due to her attitude.
Professor Reed made very complicated economics topics much simpler. I understand so much more about economics and what is happening in the world because of this course. Despite being in a lecture hall of 300 people she still made sure to interact with students. She made the class fun by using simple, relatable analogies to concepts we were learning
LOVE HER I WOULD TAKE HER FOR ALL MY CLASSES IF I COULD. VERY CARING AND WILLING TO WORK WITH STUDENTS AND REPLIES FAST TO EMAILS. FOR EC 201 WE TAKE 3 MIDTERMS AND SHE DROPS THE LOWEST GRADE SO THAT ONLY 2 TEST GRADES COUNT. MULTIPLE TRIES FOR HOMEWORK. GENUINELY WANTS THE STUDENTS TO SUCEED. I LOVE YOU MS. REED!
She is not a bad professor. Her lectures are clear and to the point. It is an entertaining class sometimes. The only problem I have with her is she doesn't adequately answer questions you email her.
Take Professor Lowe-Reed if you can! Grades comes from weekly homework assignments (you get two attempts so easy 100s), your highest two out of three tests, the final, one paper (super easy and she gives clear instructions), recitation session assignments (done in class in groups), and attendance (only need to attend 15 classes to get full credit)
Lowe-Reed is not a very good professor in my opinion. She often contradicts herself during lecture and is not very clear in her explanations. Her tests always have questions that do not have a correct answer and the rest are ambiguous or hard to understand. That being said, this class is super easy and requires no work so I would still take her.
Although Dr. Reed is a great professor and is able to apply topics, I find it difficult to the matter of defining topics properly. Tests do not have many questions and ask for questions that only partially relate to what is given in slides, making it difficult to grasp concepts.
Allison is a middle of the road teacher, her lectures are dull but the only homework is pre class videos. However, her tests may very well the most idiotic things of all time. All of the questions are worded poorly and at least one question has to be dropped from every test because it had no correct answer. Good luck.
Introduction economics should be relatively easy, yet this professor made it twice as hard. You should expect bad wordings on tests and the video assignments, making it harder to score As and Bs on the tests. Your lowest exam score is dropped though. For the sake of your CODA and cumulative GPA, don't take classes with this professor.
I would not reccomned this professor. The wording on her tests are confusing and result in a low score. I feel like I am getting graded on my englihs comprehension not econ knowldge. This class has really messed up my GPA and I regret taking it. Had I know I would have avoided her class altogether.
A solid professor for econ, she is good at explaining concepts if you pay attention and the material is taught at a slow pace. Tests are easy if you go to the lectures and do a bit of studying. She posts videos for homework that cover 90% of what she discusses in class, so if you take notes on those you will be fine.
This class had videos for homework that would align with what is taught in the lecture, which is helpful. Your grade is heavily determined by the tests which should be easy if you pay attention during lectures and take notes while watching the videos, but the tests were worded poorly and always harder than any of the practice questions.
Clearly cares a lot about her students and is mindful about our opinions, excellent lectures that were clear
A really good economics professor overall. The lectures were engaging, and paired with the recitations made for an enjoyable class that taught me a lot about economics. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 is because the wording for some of the video HW questions was confusing, and made it seem like the correct answer contradicted in-class content.
A good professor! She really cares about her students; often checks in & engages with students at the start of lectures (asking where our favorite places on campus are or what our favorite PCJ drink). You have 2 attempts (sometimes more) for the weekly hw in Moodle, an essay due at the end of the semester, 3 mc exams & weekly recitation assignments
Allison is kind and engaging; lectures are entertaining, especially the demonstration of utility! You get 2 attempts on homework. Only downside is the tests, which are more difficult than the examples covered in class and recitation. Allison has acknowledged this issue, yet has not adjusted class material to better prepare students for tests.
Overall, Lowe-Reed is the best professor for this course by far. She tries to make concepts as simple as possible, and she goes out of her way to help us the best she can! However, this was my hardest class this semester. The tests are oh so difficult...they do not compare to the easiness of other assignments. But overall, go with Lowe Reed!
You only need to attend 15 classes, but have to participate online in them for full participation credit. She teachers by assigning videos to watch and discussing them, so her lectures didn't feel necessary. If you take the class as a GEP, I would recommend ARE instead because it's less time consuming. She also brings up politics in class.
Dr. Lowe-Reed was an amazing professor and actually made me enjoy economics, which I never did before. She gave great lectures where I actually learned a lot. Attendance was not always mandatory but I went anyways because it was helpful. Tests were fairly easy if you studied and recitation assignments were easy and helpful. I recommend taking her!
Prof. Lowe-Reed was very reasonable. She was always very kind and understanding. There were only 9-10 HW assignments the whole semester that were quizzes with 2 attempts in Moodle, 1 essay, and 3 25 multiple choice question tests (lowest grade dropped). This class was always the least of my worries, and I would highly recommend taking her class.
Dr. Lowe-Reed is an engaging and caring professor. She doesn't allow laptops in class. This semester has been pretty rough with the number of student deaths and I really felt like ALR cared and she checked in with us. She drops the lowest of the three tests. The attendance/participation policy is a little confusing but very lenient.
ALR was by far my best professor this semester. She was extremely caring throughout the semester and was quick to respond to emails and other inquiries. There were homework assignments but you got two attempts and they were fairly easy to understand. Other than that we took three multiple-choice tests and wrote one essay. Lectures easy to follow.
Professor Lowe-Reed was an amazing professor. She is very kind and caring and accessible outside of class. You take 3 tests, one is dropped. You only have to spend about 20 minutes a week on homework, besides studying for tests. You only have to attend 15 in person lectures, but there are top hat questions for a grade during the lecture
This class based on the grade distribution appeared to be an easy class, but it seems that post-Covid it is very different. The tests are unlike the homework and recitation assignments and because it is a large lecture class there is no help. Very blunt professor and seems to be talking for herself during the lecture rather than teaching it.
Professor ALR is a great teacher who cares about the class. The lectures were a bit plain, but if you pay attention and do the homework you'll end up with good preparation for the tests. Even with a bad TA, I felt like she taught well enough to let me do well. She doesn't allow laptops, but it's really not as big a deal as everyone says.
This class is very easy, Allison doesn't teach much though and doesn't seem super knowledgeable beyond the slides. 80-90% of the class comes from relatively short HW videos with questions. Recitations are annoying but not difficult. 3 Tests, 1 gets dropped, and relatively straightforward project. All the tests had some poorly written questions.
An overall decent professor. Lectures were pointless for me, as she just talked through the slides, but there is a good attendance policy. Doesn't seem too knowledgeable beyond the basics. It was hit or miss with test questions, and a couple of the final exam questions were dropped because we hadn't covered them.
Dr. Lowe-Reed is a good professor, responds very fast to emails, and lays out clear guidelines about her class. If you study you will do well. I also would recommend going on Youtube and watching other videos about economics to better prepare yourself.
She was an average professor, most of the stellar reviews on here are derived from the fact that the course itself is easy, rather than the professor being excellent. She was fairly accessible outside of class, gave pretty boring lectures, and frequently had to correct errors she made on her own tests and videos. Get attendance outside the class.
So much hate for this class. She absolutely caters to students who already know about economics. do not take this class dear god, and definitely don't take it with her. she goes so fast and likes to call on random people every class. the recitation is also bs and doesn't help at all and it's mandatory to go. tests are not hard but worded weird
Good teacher, and good lectures but the final exam had a lot of content that we didn't have the chance to go over, and had trouble communicating with DRO students
Prof. Lowe-Reed is awesome. She explains the material really well and wants to help you learn.
This class is straight forward, but she assigns videos for homework and these are were you learn the most. She is not a bad teacher but can be difficult to listen to during lectures. Class isn't super hard but tests can be challenging. If you understand the material you'll be fine, but can be difficult if you do not understand the lectures.
She is an outstanding microeconomics teacher and very caring for her students. She makes the lectures engaging and puts effort into making the course understandable for all students. Getting an A is very doable in this class. She is also just genuinely a sweet and respectable person.
Ms. Lowe-Reed is an incredible teacher. She takes the time to help her students and she makes it completely reasonable to get an A in the class. Tests were difficult but completely fair and manageable. Extra project helps boost your grade a lot. She's lenient with attendance but make sure you do the Top Hat questions even if you didn't go to class.
Very kind person, I could tell she actually cared about her students. Tests and exam weren't too bad, mostly pulled from the notes and class examples.
Dr. Lowe-Reed was very sweet and her class never felt too demanding. You learn primarily from the pre-class videos she assigns (lecture slides were okay too), and the recitation grade is also an easy 100 if you attend class. Tests were reasonable and the final project was not hard.
She was a nice professor who cared that everyone actually understood the material. There is no reason to avoid this professor, if you're thinking about taking her, just go for it, you will have no troubles. She had plenty of office hours and gives you plenty of opportunities to get a good grade.
I truly believe that Professor Lowe-Reed is not the sharpest tool in the shed. She consistently misspeaks in lectures and every test had at least one question removed because it was so poorly written. She may understand economics sometimes it doesn't show. Easy class.
Does a good job keeping you engaged in lectures, really enjoyed class. Material was hard but she offers office hours and you only need to come to class 15 times. She seems to care about her students.
Honestly, this was the hardest class I had this semester lmao due to the fact that Lowe-Reed did not prepare us well for the tests. Sure she had practice tests but tbh they had no relation to the test at all. Recitation was easy tho, and was the place I learned the majority of the information as the lecture was just to boring.
A great professor who was available outside of class and explained material well. Tests were slightly hard, and recommend using the practice tests she posts and doing a lot of practice problems. All and all, recitation and project assignments were easy. Not a huge fan of how Tophat worked, but other than class was nice. You'll get what you put in.
Weekly HW. The lowest of the three midterm exams is dropped. Fairly difficult final. Expect to be similar difficulty to chem 101. Easy A if you know how to study and prioritize your grades. Great person and extremely nice- will buy students coffee if you schedule an in-person meeting with her.
Dr. Reed did a great job making it clear what was important to know for the tests and homework. Her lectures were very informative and simplified the concepts through familiar analogies. As long as you pay attention to class it is an easy A. Homeworks were very short and the one big project can be finished in a couple of hours.
Dr. Lowe-Reed is a great professor. She makes lectures fun, and she is not a tough grader. She even gave candy during a lecture. She is understanding of students' filled-up schedules and does not give too many homework assignments. If you go to all her classes, whether in person or online, you will be prepared for the exams.
Mrs. Lowe Reed is a good professor that cares about her students. There is a textbook for this class, but it can be found online and is free. There is one HW assignment per week that takes 30 minutes and there are three exams and she drops the lowest exam score. It is important to pay attention to the lectures in order to be successful.
She is a caring professor that does a good job teaching
Worst class I have ever taken. Horrible teaching, short-tempered, and a huge superiority complex. Reed made this class unbearable, and any classes with Reed should be avoided at all costs. Clearly despises her students and pays people for good RMP reviews. Lowe Reed taught students so little, not a single person out of hundreds passed the 1st test.
No homework, just tests and pre-class videos to watch. Tests try to trick you up but other than that, easy class.
Dr. Lowe-Reed was a great professor and I definitely recommend her for Principles of Microeconomics. There was typically one homework assignment each week that wasn't too hard, and three tests over the course of the semester. Use the textbook as it was easy to comprehend, and a good resource when studying for the tests.
Dr. Lowe-Reed is the sweetest ever. This class is also pretty easy reguardless of who you have but she makes it more fun. The tests can be tricky but she is a great professor and barely any homework.
Prof. Lowe-Reed was great. Engaging lectures, hardly any homework, helpful recitations, and honestly the most accessible professor outside of class I've ever had. Tests were reasonable and the lowest gets dropped. Sometimes the test questions felt intentionally tricky but nothing extreme. Overall a great, easy, low stress but informative class.
I had high hopes for this professor as she had a handful of great reviews, but boy was I disappointed. She made learning microeconomics SO hard, and her lectures were so incredibly boring. The only good thing I can report was that recitation on Fridays was helpful, that's the only place where I learned anything. She can be pretty rude sometimes.
Professor Lowe-Reed was caring and made sure to provide ample opportunities to contact her outside of class. Go to lectures, office hours, and take good notes and you will be fine in her class.
The lectures were good, and she made it easy to understand. The tests were awful. The practice tests were entirely different from real ones. Tests had very confusing questions were vague and ambiguous. sometimes the questions were so bad that she would strike them from the test. she was rude and made passive aggressive comments towards students.
Very engaging lecture, easy to follow. The textbook is costly but ye landlubbers can get it for free online. Practice tests are very similar to real tests. The final is the same difficulty level as the midterms. She cares about the wellbeing of her students. While I learned ARE201 has an optional final exam, I would still take this class with ALR.
EC205 is a common sense course. Lowe-Reed was a great professor, attendance IS mandatory, but you are allowed 6 absences. Midterms 30%, final 20%, the rest is practically free points. Tests are fairly easy. I took notes on the first lecture and never again, still ended with an A. Would highly recommend if you're completing the engineering econ req.
If you don't study, you're going to have a pretty hard time in this class. She posts a link to a bunch of YouTube videos that explain a lot of things you learn in class. Watch those and read over the slides and the worst you'll get on a test is an 80. She communicates a lot, no matter how late she always seemed to get back to us. Office hours help.
Had fantastic lectures that clearly visualized all the econ concepts very well (Super helpful as a visual learner!). She also asks questions through TopHat for participation which help a lot for learning. No need to read textbook unless you want practice problems. She makes practice tests for every test and has many avenues for asking questions. :)
Professor was very good at explaining economic concepts and the tests were pretty similar to the practice tests. Recitation was fun and really helped me understand the concepts better.
Lowe-Reed is awesome, it's as simple as that. Her lectures are entertaining, and she made herself available for help in almost any way possible. It shows that she cares a ton about her students. Make sure you study for your tests, and the worst you can make is like an 80. The practice tests are always very similar to the real tests.
Professor Lowe-Reed is amazing! She always presents easy to understand and engaging lectures. She has a lenient attendance policy (allowing up to 7 or 8 absences before losing points) and drops the lowest test grade since she doesn't do makeup tests. There is not much homework, and the material isn't too difficult. She was very helpful and kind.
Very interactive and entertaining lectures, I never had to go to office hours but she makes fun muffin or cookie meets with the class, she answers any questions quickly on moodle or groupme. Class itself wasn't hard and she drops one midterm grade out of the three. If you put the effort in, it's easy to get an A.
Professor Lowe-Reed was pretty good. I'm bad at Econ in general and she made econ concepts easier to understand. I would say her lectures and practice tests are the most important thing because she says additional information separate from the slides. I felt like her practice tests were always a little bit easier than her actual tests.
Prof. Lowe-Reed was amazing. She is so sweet and caring. There is no required reading from the textbook, but it's useful if you want more detail on something. You get 6 free missed attendances before it affects your grade, but you NEED to go to lectures if you want to do well. Lowest test grade is dropped. She does NOT round up/change final grades.
Professor Lowe-Reed is very nice and has lots of office hours (sometimes with food). Most of my studying consisted of rereading the lecture slides the night before a test. The homework questions are very similar to the test questions, so studying those is probably better. The final project is individual, but easy to do once you do the practice.
ALR was great. Easily accessible through GroupMe, Moodle, office hours. Textbook is free online. My complaint is that I wish there were more practice problems for tests. I really felt unprepared and confused as to what to study. So I wish there was more than just one practice test but at least its better than nothing. Overall she was great though!
The way the class was graded was a bit confusing. Overall, the class was okay, it was pretty boring, but not too difficult. She does drop the lowest of 3 test grades which is nice. Not my favorite class that I've taken, but I've also had much worse classes. I understand why she gets the rating she does, but don't entirely agree with it.
Dr. Lowe-Reed is an amazing Economics professor. She makes the class very doable and makes the lectures fun and engaging. She exempted the lowest test grade at the end of the semester which helped out a lot of people with their grades. The recitations were also helpful and beneficial for understand the material.
DO NOT LISTEN TO OTHER REVIEWS. Lowe Reed offered extra credit to students who left positive reviews, but is one of the least prepared professors at State. She will try to trip you up on every exam, and always makes mistakes on the exam she refuses to admit were mistakes. Though this is an intro class, she caters towards those with knowledge on it.
Great lectures. Only thing was it was a bit to study for. HW was really easy and test were quite hard with poorly written questions at times
Dr. Reed is a great professor! Her lectures were very informative and I genuinely enjoyed coming to class. You can miss 8 classes and still get full credit for attendance, and the recitations assignments can be done online. She is overall very flexible and is easily reached outside of class. I would take her again 100%!
Reed knows a lot about economics. The main issue was the way she would teach the material was kind of confusing and she sometimes seemed unprepared. Drops the lowest exam score which is very nice. Also felt like tests would try to trip you up. However, if you study the previous semester's exams which she gives you access to, you'll do alright.
I highly enjoyed taking EC 205 with Professor Lowe-Reed. She is a fantastic professor. Her lectures were informative and easy to pay attention to. She provides an abundance of resources to do well in the class, including access to the previous semester's exams. The exams are easy if you take good notes and do the practice exams.
Grade is determined by many things, lowest test score is dropped, she is an amazing lecturer but does not round final grade.
Professor Lowe-Reed is a great professor, but the tests are unnecessarily confusing. Lectures are straight to the point and pretty easy to comprehend, especially with some practice. Tests always felt easy but clearly were not after you receive your grade back.
Prof. Lowe-Reed is overall a nice person and her lectures are very useful, easy to understand. However, she is quite stingy in her grading and does not offer any extra credit. She doesn't care much about your grade throughout the semester, but curves at the end. Also, her tests are quite difficult and don't match the difficulty in lectures. -HY
She's a nice lady and runs an organized and engaging class. My complaints are that attendance was required and I felt like there was material on the final (specific terminology) that we had not touched on during the class, and my grade suffered as a result.
She is a great teacher, I just hated that it was econ at either 8:30 or 9:35. Her tests were only 25 questions so you could only miss two to get an A. Also, in the syllabus, she has that you can miss a certain number of classes and still get all the points, but this is a lie, because you would miss the participation points from the class.
She was good teacher
Professor Lowe-Reed is a great lecturer, and her classes are straightforward. While the tests can be tricky, her free textbook and useful tools like Unstuck study make studying a breeze. Attend lectures and use available resources to do well.
Prof Lowe reed is amazing in lecture and made sure the class was engaged! There is a recitation section that is optional but I found it helpful for the assignments that were required. It is a lot of information, but you don't need the text book and I enjoyed the topics. Having a good TA is very important if you need extra help.
Pretty simple and easy class. Everything on the tests is right off of the lecture slides. No homework. Only one project for the final. 3 exams. Reading the textbook does help comprehension, but it is not really necessary. You can message her on groupme or in class forums for quick responses. Lectures are interesting with examples.
Decent lecturer, class is very easy, the most annoying part of the class is the attendance, taken every period on TopHat and you still lose points despite the 2 class "buffer." The class is easy but annoying to attend early in the morning. Room is always very humid and warm- don't wear a hoodie/sweatshirt
Tries too hard to tie concepts together which ultimately are useless on the test. I ended up needing to use a different prof's notes to study for Reed's test. She has a high school teacher vibe and doesn't let you use laptops during lectures. Frequently kicks people out if she's in a bad mood. It's econ, so it's easy, but she can be confusing.
This class is mostly graded on tests, but there is no homework. I enjoyed the lectures, but not all class time is utilized towards them. We usually start 15-20 minutes into classtime. However, I thought she was a good lecturer and explained concepts clearly. I just wish there was more assignments we were graded on.
Very strong lecturer and there is a recitation session each week to support learning. Tests are not very hard because practice tests prepare you properly.
Professor Lowe Reed is a talented lecturer who knows what she is talking about. Her tests can be challenging but fair. Recommend doing assigned readings outside of class and watching supplemental videos as well. Overall, I had a great experience and feel more knowledgeable about economics.
Sometimes I felt like what we learned in class didn't exactly match what we did in recitation or what was on the tests. Recitations are also fast paced but they are good practice. Overall, I enjoyed her lectures, and nothing ever felt rushed. She took her time and made sure students understood. She also provided lots of practice tests as review.
Very easy class. She was a boring lecturer but got the job done. You have to pay attention in lectures otherwise she will call you out in a lecture of 250 people. Three tests the entire semester but drops your lowest score. Final project that is worth 20% of your grade but, it takes less than an hour and has a very clear rubric.
Professor Lowe-Reed is a solid lecturer who is able to give useful examples and thoughtfully answer students questions. Your final grade will ultimately consist of 2 of your highest test grades, participation/attendance (easy), 1 practice worksheet a week (easy), and the final. Recitation attendance not required. JUST DONT TAKE AT 8AM!!
Dr. Lowe-Reed was an AMAZING professor. I learned new material every lecture and didn't have to read the textbook much because she covers the material so well in class. Attendance is mandatory so keep that in mind (8:30am was not fun).
Dr. Lowe-Reed's lectures were engaging and I enjoyed the course. You will do well on the exams if you pay attention and study. No complaints.
Does a good job of explaining overarching concepts. Regularly holds muffin meetings in case you need to ask her something or just want a muffin. Assigns very little homework.
Lowe-Reed taught an amazing class and it was easy to manage with the other classes I took. There was almost no homework and if you pay attention in class you won't need to study for exams. She cares about her reputation, which makes her very open to feedback. She will adjust to make a better learning experience. 10/10, well done.
Lowe-Reed the material well, but the material was not very intuitive. College econ is a lot different than high school econ. All exams were multiple choice and there was one final project, but it was really easy and well graded.
While the class itself is boring, she is a great professor who has a deep knowledge of the content and cares about her students. She explains the concepts well and there isn't much homework involved with the class. Her tests are similar to her practice tests so there is plenty of study material for everything.
Allison Lowe-Reed is the epitome of a bad professor. She will try to trip you up on tests, and then realize she was in fact wrong and will tell you about 5 questions on each test do not have answers. The material isn't hard, but she is snarky and unapproachable. Also offers extra credit for positive RMP reviews, which should not be allowed.
Offered us all extra credit for a Rate my Professor review of 5.0. Enough said.
Overall the class was 'okay'. ALR does know a lot about econ, it was just a lot of information to understand and sometimes she was confusing. Gives you past exams as practice, but for us the real test was harder than the past tests. Even when I felt confident with the past exams when I hit the real exams all that confidence deflated. Use Textbook!
Lecture isn't long and the attendance is only required for a certain percentage of the term so after you get enough points you can stop going to class. Also the exams are not as easy as you would think so you do have to study.
Class is really easy if you take good notes. Nice and caring but can get a little annoying when you have a laptop out in a 300 person lecture. Lowest test grade is dropped, and you have a really easy project worth the same as a test. I'd recommend her.
Great slides and study guides. Answers questions thoroughly and a fun class. Clearly cares about students, but will call you out in class if you're being disruptive.
Dr. Lowe-Reed is a girlboss. Her outfits are always serving. She lectures well but Econ can be a way more tough class than you'd expect. Don't have your laptop out, don't talk while she is, and pay attention and you'll be good enough. She's super accessible and never shuts down questions even when they take up a lot of class time. Sweet person too
The professor is nice, but her laziness shows. The practice test and actual test barely match. Exams are confusing and outdated. Her kindness doesn't make up for the frustration and wasted effort students face.
Dr. Reed made me hate econ. She reads slides &doesn't actually explain anything & makes attendance mandatoryby location. Very rude if we ask for regrade requests, She in turn takes off points for the mistakes her TAs made. Worst slides to read; recitation drops grade. No reply to emails. Her ratings high cuz she asks for good reviews on ratemyprof.
I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming from. I had a good experience with Dr. Lowe-Reed. She explains everything very clearly and is a fair grader. As for the class, I didn't need to study outside of lectures, and I did really well on the test despite never having taken Econ before.
She has pretty high expectations but nothing impossible like some reviews are saying lol. Lectures aren't that bad and she usually starts the first 15/20 minutes with questions and announcements so not as much content as you'd think. The structure of the class feels like a lot tho but if you know how to ask for help and use ur resources it's fine
Overall very easy class until the final which nearly everyone I talked to (including myself) said was much harder than the practice exam. Very common theme of practice exams being much easier than actual exam.
Overall, she's a good professor. She is very knowledgeable about Econ, but the class is quite hard. I did not necessarily enjoy the coursework, but if you apply yourself, getting an A is achievable. Use the practice exams as your primary study guide. She tries to trick you with wording on exam, beware. Also, do the ECM well, it's a grade booster.
Dr. Reed doesn't care about her students and her lectures are very boring. Test questions often cover material not taught in class or shown on slides. Some are unclear or unanswerable. Recitation assignments are difficult and unlike the tests, while the practice exams are much easier and misleading.
Overall this class was pretty good. Exams were often harder than practice exams but still not bad. No homework outside of class except for a final project which only took about an hour. She is nice and explains things well but will call you out in class for things like having your laptop out or talking. Very accessible outside of class.
Dr. Lowe-Reed makes for an easy class. Her lectures are generally interesting. However, she spends too much time answering questions in the beginning of class so we always fell behind. There's no homework which is nice, and she's generally easy to reach outside of class. Don't take the class if you don't like hearing stupid questions though ;)
She was a really sweet person and the few conversations i had with her were great. I didn't enjoy her lectures because they didn't add much. I would stop listening because she would call out students for speaking during her lecture, which would just throw me off for the rest. Her practice tests weren't helpful, good luck!
She is super nice. Her classes are really lecture-heavy heavy so be ready to take notes. The exams are somewhat tricky, but if you study, you should be ok. Your grade is made up of exams and recitation assignments. Not much room for an easy A homework assignment.
Lowe is awesome! Her lectures are easy to follow, and she is great at explaining difficult concepts. The tests are a little hard, but put in the work and you'll do great.
Nice person but never let me take recitation assignments outside of class. You literally have no choice but to go to recitation
This course was extremely easy, but Lowe-Reed presents it like it's incredibly hard. Her tone feels patronizing, and the lectures seem are more filler than actually useful. She would be better suited to teach at an elementary or middle school. Honestly, this class could've been an email but Lowe-Reed would convolute even an email.
The tests are harder than you expect, but the lectures are good and interesting, and she is overall a really good professor.
Lowe-Reed has the best outfits of any professor by far, and she's pretty fair about credit. You can replace your lowest test grade, but you'll probably fail one because the content is so easy that you won't want to study. If you don't like her teaching style, just go to the lectures for attendance and read the slides at home.
Despite that fact that she seems a little harsh and is an incredibly boring lecturer, her tests are very similar to the practice test and you do not need to study your life away to get good grades on the tests. She also offers test corrections for one test and drops your lowest score! claims if she could give out no tests she would
Dr. Lowe-Reed is a very caring and nice professor. She's extremely responsive outside of class through groupme and very understanding of events outside of the classroom and gives very clear and engaging lectures. Take her for your EC req!!!
For many people her lectures may not feel useful, but if you really pay attention, they are great. This is an easy class, with very clear guidelines. She is very passionate about economics and will answer any questions you have to the best of her abilities. This class usually has tons of people, and it is often hard to teach such a large class. :)
wish I could say nice things about her, but I really cant. JUST DONT TAKE HER CLASSS IDK HOW SHE HAS A 4.6 RATING!!!!!
Dr. Lowe-Reed clearly cares about her students with test corrections, review sessions, and curves, but her lectures often felt hastily put together with a lot of filler. Her tests sometimes included material she said wouldn't be covered, and often didn't match the practice tests. Good professor if you like self-study with practice problems.
Dr. Lowe-Reed is a decent professor who instructs very well but often gives the impression that she does not care to be there and she is trying to get past the class block and go do other things. Recitations are unhelpful and egregious and grading can be quite unforgiving. Though, lectures are quite helpful, and homework is not very demanding.
She was a great professor who explained things really well for this intro class. The tests were sometimes a little dificult as she pulls some of the questions from a question bank and does not ask them like they were presented in class or reciation, but overall a good class.
Lowe-Reed's class was okay. She's very knowledgeable and makes herself available for help. The lowest of 3 midterm exams are dropped. However, her midterms and the final exam were quite difficult and don't accurately reflect the lectures/recitations. Getting an A in the class is achievable, but you're gonna have to work frustratingly hard for it
Good class, just a boring presentation of material. I liked the idea of discussing a current event's economic impact. My only issue was that it took longer than it should've. She doesn't make this class more difficult than it needs to be, which is really admirable, but don't underestimate tests.
She was very kind and accessible. Tests were very difficult. Everyone rushed through group work in recitation which hurt everyone's grades. Not much work to do outside of class and homework is a guaranteed 100%. Do practice tests or you'll show up unprepared.
Great professor, lectures are very helpful. Easily accessible outside of class. Explains concepts very well. Good grade weighting and lots of opportunities for corrections and help. Recitations could be better; they are not too helpful.
She goes over all the material clearly in class and is available and capable both inside and outside of class to answer any questions. Practice tests are provided and helpful. Recitation is a group work worksheet, so depending how your group decides to do it, you might not get to practice every topic. Homework was a free 100.
She's very chill. Not too tough on students. Tests and assignments are reasonable.
Dr Lowe-Reed is amazing. She explains concepts well and takes time to answer questions during lectures. Only 1 homework assignment per week. Tests are super easy, all mcq (she claims to only use tests because she is forced to, and wouldn't if she didn't have to). Only knock is the class is pretty slow-paced and sometimes, but it's not bad at all.
The final was easy
Professor Lowe-Reed had informative lectures, the homework assignments were easy, but the tests were difficult. We had three tests with the lowest grade dropped but the practice tests provided didn't prepare you enough for the actual tests. The recitations were sometimes difficult but depending on your TA with asking questions they're doable.
Easy enough class, she seems a little disorganized. She put both 300 person lecture classes in an huge group me, combined everything for both classes on top hat and moodle, etc. Recitations can be frustrating and TA was unhelpful. Lectures are pretty clear and helpful but she doesn't allow laptops only ipads or handwritten notes.
Great teacher with required attendance. 3 tests and a final, lowest test grade drops automatically, and final can replace next lowest test score if needed.
