True, she is a difficult teacher but she is not unapproachable. I've worked with her and she is very intelligent an d cares about her students. Just don't try to bull**** her.

Great Professor, know your readings before you come to class. One of the best Poly Sci. classes that I have ever taken

All you have to do is show up and you'll get an A.

She's wonderful, I hate political science and even I did well.. no studyin' or nothin'. And she's hot too. take this class.

It depends if you are interested in IR. I thought it was a good class. Just do the readings, and show up for class. Work ahead of time for the final paper.

I liked this class a lot, but it is WAY too hard for a 100 level gen-ed. Expect to do a ton of work, take extensive notes, and be required to read/know a ton of information. She's the most thorough grader I've had however and will take time to help you.

Very, very thorough for an intro class. The midterm average was 73%. Study really hard and you might get an A.

Good teacher-LOTS OF INFORMATION THOUGH for a 100 level. TONS of note taking first half of semester. more group discussion/participation 2nd half. Hard midterm..Lots of reading, STUDY YOUR BUTT OFF! Good teacher though-always willing to help anyone.

She is very demanding, but is an excellent teacher. If you don't understand something, she will go over it until you do. Very easy to find her during her office hours. For her upper division POSC courses, midterms and finals are usually take-home essays.

I have no idea why so many people are complaining. She is the easiest professor at Towson! If you need an A to boost your GPA, then take any of her classes. Oh, and she's a hottie; definitely some eye candy.

Lots of readings and notes, but makes things interesting and clear and easy to follow. Has high expectations, but pushes you to do your best. Good teacher!

This class does require a lot of reading, but you will learn ALOT! This class is not an easy A, but a B is very attainable :) She is very helpful, so if you're lost (which you shouldn't be) you can always ask for help.

the grade is based on midterm, final, and a research paper. she is firm and expects a lot which i think makes her a very good teacher. i studied more for this class than any other and i got a B

Expected much more from the Exam and Paper. Very nice professor, but hard in grading. Studied a lot, didnt sleep a lot, but dont like the grading. Hard for internationals. I feel bad. I would be pleased even to get C.

I've had this professor for a couple of other classes and she is definitely one of the best teachers I have ever had. She expects a lot out of you, but she makes you feel motivated to actually do the work. You will learn a ton.

A 100 Level class turned BAD. Work like a Graduate Student--treated like a 7th grader (moving all personal belongings to the fromt of the room during tests). Also study guides don't help b/c she puts every single term on it. MUST DO ALL AUTHOR READINGS

I agree, for a GenEd it's too much work, she requires to much out of someone just tryin to fullfill a GenEd...but what can I say don't all GenEds.... All in all she's a nice professor

Great prof. never considered being a poli sci major before taking her intro class. she's not too hard and very interesting. reading is a must. hot too- best on cold days.

By far the best teacher I've ever had at Towson. If you're not willing to work, don't even bother. But if you are, her classes will be the most beneficial classes you take at Towson.

The best professor EVER! SUCH A HOTTIE! Very easy on the eyes and NEVER takes attendance- class is easy as cake. JTM, BABY!

Kick ass class...don't join the class, stick around for a week or two then drop it....that makes you a sorry person. You will learn so much and this class is almost guaranteed to help get you a government-related job out of college. McCartney RULES!

i have taken at least one class a semester with her... she is the best teacher i have had in towson... if you are looking for an easy class... her classes are not for you... BUT if you are looking for a challenging class where you will gain alot from it... then her classes ARE for you...

By far one of the best POSC teachers TU has. You have to work hard, but this is college people, not pre-school - get over it. You get out of the classes as much as you put in. She is willing to help you if you make an appointment with her and is truly an awesome person to know.

I have taken POSC 107, 307, 471 and 490. It has been the most rewarding experience of my college career. To those who throw hate her way citing the difficulty of the class, Learn how to use the english language. After accomplishing that, have fun serving me and all the other students that succeded our burgers in fries while you wallow in self pity.

Very hard class. Only take this if your are willing to do all the work and not half ass anything.30 page paper. however, mine turned out to be 74 pages. Lots of presentations that can be tedious at times but very helpful in the long run.Dr. McCartney is by far the best Poli Sci teacher at Towson. Very nice and fun. Wish i found out abt. her sooner

LOL! I love the students that speak so badly of her and the class, yet can't spell or use ther right "be!" Morons!This class makes you work you butt off, so don't enroll if you are lazy or a slacker. Save yourself, and other group members the time. This class REQUIRES a $#^+ load of time and engergy, if you are lazy,stay the F--k HOME..or take art!

ICONS -- Difficult but REWARDING class... I made a lot of friends in this class and had fun :) The work load is a bit tough but manageable – go to class, meet deadlines: Improvement is REWARDED HEAVILY. Big paper to do, but by the time it is due you have all the information. It is the toughest class you will ever love.

This class is difficult and requires commitment. However, it is by far the most rewarding class I have ever taken. Take this class if you are looking for a rewarding experience that is tons of fun. The classes where she lectures are easy on the eyes too :-)

Dr. McCartney is a dedicated, intelligent professor who will challenge you academically and intellectually. Her classes tend to have a higher level of difficulty than others, however, they are more rewarding. Each class has different challenges. It is a good way to test yourself. She is helpfull outside of class and is a great advisor as well.

Hands down, the hardest class you will ever take... but it is the best class you will ever take. Be willing to work hard and you should do alright

I took this class specifically because I was looking for a challenge, and it is one of the hardest Honors classes offered. You can BS the journals but still get an A by asking intelligent questions, perfect attendence is extra credit, ace your mapquizzes and always speak up in class and you can get B's on everything else and still pull off an A.

i took a couple classes with her, she expects a lot but is a really intelligable lady. really informed on current events. and really makes you work. her ICONS class is not for the shy at heart...be warned, but also know you'll get a lot out of her classes. i reccommmend her, for sure.

This woman knows her stuff! Easily one of the most intelligent professors I've had at Towson. She demands a lot of work and her exams can be really rough, but if you stay on top of the readings and really pay attention in lecture she tells you everything you need to know. DO NOT take her ir you're looking for an easy GenEd credit.

Absolutely THE hardest class you will ever take at Towson, but if you work your butt off for it, will be the most rewarding! You write and do research like a grad student in such a short period of time. ICONS becomes your world.. accept it, and it will be ok. I'd be crazy to take it again, but it would be totally worth it.

Class is A LOT of work, but if you are willing to do it then you will get a good grade. A lot of reading, and class discussions based on them. Midterm, final, 8 pg paper, a short current events presentation, some groupwork, and a lot of discussion. Overall this class is hard but you will learn a lot!

Pretty time consuming (especially considering it is an intro level course). If you are just looking for gen-ed credit, stay away. If you are a POSC major you might as well take her class because it is all stuff you need to know and will definitely help you. She takes role everyday and wants lots of participation. EXTREMELY intelligent! Dr. McCartney knows her stuff, and makes it easy to ask questions and offers clarity with everything. I have learned so much, though this entry level course is far from easy. She is a wonderful educator!

Hardest class I took in my college career and most worth it, even though it wasn't directly related to my major. Loved ICONs and love Poland.

At first she seems like a hard teacher, but she is so knowledgeable about the topics. I absolutely loved her class and she made me fall in love with a political science major! I definitely recommend her if you are willing to work and go to class. her class is totally manageable and she really pushes you to your fullest potential!

The 2-5 pg journal entries each week will keep you up very late if you put them off! Research paper is intense, but can really help your grade if you're lacking in other areas. Attendance is graded, as is participation, so don't expect to coast through! Very rewarding class, you learn a TON!

Dr. McCartney was a WONDERFUL teacher! Sweet lady, really knows her stuff. If you're looking for an easy gen ed, this is NOT the class for you. If you're looking to learn/ challenge yourself, the class is great. Lots of reading, weekly 2-3 pg journals, map quizzes at end of sem, one current events pres., midterm, final, and 12-15 pg research paper

High expectations, but I have learned a great amount of information pertaining to civic engagement and the structures of the United Nation.

I don't know what these people are talking about, saying she's a bad teacher.. I love Dr. McCartney! She definitely gives a lot of work (especially to the honors class) but she'll help whenever needed. She's very friendly and makes the class go by fast. I recommend this class if you're not afraid of writing papers!

If you are going part time and are interested in the subject matter I would suggest her. However, for the many students who work and are taking on a full course load I would look elsewhere for your Poli Sci credit.

Really engaging class. Dr. McCartney is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, don't be afraid to ask questions. She is a very tough grader on papers, but it really helps you develop as a writer. There is a lot of reading and you write 12 journals. I feel extremely knowledgeable after taking this class. But be warned, it is not easy!

Dr. McCartney knows her subjects and is very respected by her peers and students. Can be intimidating but she grades your improviment. Read and participate and keep up with the assignments. Civic Engagement class has a lot of assignments but they are all very interesting. Don't procrastinate!

Dr. McCartneys civic engagement class is by far the toughest class I've taken- but it was worth every second of work. She causes her students to strive to be engaged, I wanted to work even harder because of the possibility of putting it on my resume! definitely recommended.

I took McCartney's US-Russia relations class and It was a heavy workload. However, it was probably the most I have learned from a class while at Towson University. There was a probably an assignment due every few weeks, but it was explained in detail. If you do the assignments and show up to class you should be fine.

Dr. McCartney is hands down one of the most dedicated and caring professors at Towson. I took both her POSC 474 Civic Engagement Class and POSC 307 ICONS with her and have never been so encouraged to succeed. The workload is heavy but her classes really help you improve your writing and communication skills.

Civic was VERY demanding but equally rewarding. You will learn a lot from Dr. McCartney if you do your best and are passionate, but I wouldn't recommend this course to anyone who isn't interested in international affairs or the UN. She wants students to succeed academically and she will set you up with opportunities if you can prove yourself.

If you are going to take ICONS, know that it is NOT a class for the weak. I have never in my college career had so much work and assignments due for a class, like I did in ICONS. With that being said, McCartney is one of the best professors I have had at Towson University. She truly cares about her students and pushes all of them to do their best.
