She contradicts herself constantly and likes to single out struggling students to make herself look better.
She's very helpful, but you need to go to her during office hours. If you miss out on assignments it really kills your grade. She demands a ton of work. You need to do a lot of reading, because if you dont you mess up on the quizes.
She is a very strict teacher, but always willing to help. She wants her students to succeed and takes great pride in her teaching. She is NOT an easy A, but if you work hard, you will gain so much from her class.
Fair, and very helpful
I do not recommend taking this teacher
She's a very difficult teacher. She assigns a lot of reading. She will test you on the reading also. You need to know the titles of the stories she assigns for reading and the information given about the authors. You can't do half ass work, just make sure you turn EVERYTHING in for @ least a B.
Do not take Murray!!! She is very strict and difficult. The is a quiz almost every week and her she has a tough grading system...Trust me, NO!
I would like to note the awful grammar and sentence structure of students for whom Murray was found offensive. It is telling to openly admit distain for challenges in English, while criticizing with base writing ability. Those planning transfer to a four-year are advised to seek challenge.
The entire class had to deal with the subject of a "just war." Ms. Murray is not easy and you must do a lot of writing and reading. She is however nice to look at. It was tough but I ended up with a B in the class.
i don't mind that she is a hard teacher. but what bothered me was her condescending attitude. she thinks she knows everything and she's always right. she acts nice and polite, but i don't get a sense that she's truly sincere. and she does play favorites. i always got A's in english, and i know i'm very good in english. but i got a B in this class.
for 105, pretty hard. Grades essays nicely but do not recommend her if you don't want a challenge. the room is also pretty depressing but that's not her fault i guess
she is a awesome teacher.she is a challenge but her students learn alot. After her class I took english 1 and it was so easy (she teaches her 105 classes how to become wonderful writers)if you want to learn alot take her class.Im glad I did because I went to english 1 and did awesome.
Allison is demanding and is probably the best LBCC teacher at engaging a class. She knows her information, is clear and helpful, and is damned good looking by my estimation. Highly recommended.
She had high expectations , explained well. She put her ideas out there a lot about stuff that had nothing to do with the class. She seemed to get frustrated easily
A femanist. A liberal. Do not take class! Asks too much from students. Class is repetetive.
I highly recommend this teacher. She's about the hottest teacher on campus. I enjoyed her involvement with her students, though at times that gives her reasons to be very demanding. You'll learn something all the time. And for the guys, the least you'll

she doesn't seem to care much about the students

She made this class very interesting and very involved. It was very difficult yes, but she was always willing to help the students out. She won't write your papers for you, but she will help send you in the right direction. Definitely recommended if you want a challenge, even if you don't this still a really good class to take.
She likes to stick to formulas, even when she knows they don't work. She once said of her English 3 mid-term: "A lot of people don't do well on this mid-term, it's really hard." AND SHE NEVER CHANGED IT. Talk about setting up your students to fail.
Maybe easy on the eyes, but avoid her if you can. She really believes in herself, but not in her students. Thinks she rules the roost, and demeans her students. Take someone else if you can.
Most of the students complaining about how hard Ms. Murray is are probably the type of students always looking for an easy A. No question she is challenging, but if you want to prepare yourself for upper division courses she is the right teacher to take--her classes are not for slackers.
too hard expects you to have perfect grammar and ideas according to her. hard to please her regarding subject , grades hard, not for someone who is not into english.
I took her for Eng 1 and absolutely enjoyed myself. She is the type of teacher who doesn't give in to the slackers. She makes you work for your grade. Eng 3 wasn't easy but she was very helpful. If you don't like WORK then of course you are going to hate taking her...but if you want to be prepared for the University level of college writing...
Total ****!! She bags on her students, doesnt encourage free thinking or opinions. Insults anyone thats makes a point. Doesn't teach. on her papers she doesn't state your errors. Highly avoid her at all cost. Talk to other instructors and they will repeat exactly what i have stated. Complain to the Dean as her current class have. thank you
She is not the easiest teacher however she is very helpful and she goes over all the material clearly before she moves on to the next thing. I really enjoy her teaching skills and her whole attitude.
SHE IS VERY BIAS. DO NOT RECOMMENT. STATUS GETS TO HER HEAD. A PHD IN ENGLISH SAID SHE IS NO GOOD. CAN REALLY GREAT NEGATIVE VIBES FOR A STUDENT.
Horrible Teacher, do not take her. She will mostly talk about going to the gym and working out on her body. This biznotch is so vain she took up 45 minutes of class time talking about she was the only woman on the planet who could do a perfect pull up. Their was no sarcasm or hyperbole in that last statement whatsoever.
Very challenging, intense & a tough grader. She's a work out freak & talks about it too. gives a lot of work & is very structured. However, I did learn a lot, but her class was a pain! Shows no mercy whatsoever!
she doesnt seem to care very much about her students. she is rude and insulting. overall though she is a good teacher. her teaching is good but her personallity is very set. she will not change or take anything from anyone.
the woman is koo. just that she has a tendency to belittle her students. she once told a guy next to me in class that his time limit on his "smart-a*%" was up. it was so funny that i stayed in the class just to hear what else she would say about her students. what a teacher!!
She is the best english teacher i've ever had. Before taking her class I could barely write a one page essay; today I can write four pages with ease. However, she is very challenging, and if you aren't willing to work hard...
Simply the BEST!
Overall, I didn't have to work too hard in this class to understand the material or pass, but I did need to spend time on my essays. Fair grader. Midterm is blunt and easy if you read. Good teacher to take if you like to know lots of information about a specific topic.
Her class is very hard. You have to do very well on the essays to pass the class. She always talks about her working out and sometimes give bad vibes. She makes students feel bad afer they give an opinion. She doesn't care about what her students have to say.
Attend class, do all your work, and pay attention. Don't get on her bad side. Great teacher, I learned a lot.
She is very opinionated. she asks students what they think and if they dont agree with her she will make them feel like idiots. good teacher. seems full of herself. the class wasn't too difficult.she is a good teacher.
She's a bit intimidating but really, she means well, I honestly felt myself becoming a better writer after taking her class. She cares for students she feels want to learn, and simply chooses not to waste her time with people she feels doesn't care. She's insulting at times to certain people, but if you look pass that you should be fine.
Aviod this teacher at all cost if you can. Your wasting your time taking Ms.Murray. By fear the worst the English teacher I have at LBCC. Aviod this teacher shes a joke!
She is just a waste of time her readings are boring and she is a hard grader who criticizes too much like she was perfect.
omg!!! avoid at all cost. too full of herself. grades horribly hard. nothing is good enough. demands perfection. lots of hw.
No good. Dont take This class at all. Ms.Murray is full of her self. Boring class to. Dont waste your time taking Allison Murray. Her potlical views are one side to.
A waste of time. biggest Liberal that teachs at LBCC. Omg Ms.murray never shuts up. If you want to kiss up to her poltical views than take her class. but other than that no good. Aviod if you can. Worst teacher in the whole English department at LBCC.
Dont take Ms.murrays class. A WASTE OF YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Aviod Murrays class if you can! All she talks about is the most left wing potlical views and how her grandmother meet barck Ombmas grandfather lol. She talks about how great he is. he isnt going to fix the econmy. Hes speeding more money. Ronlad Regan would have fixed it not Ombma lol.
Great teacher. If you don't get her then I don't know what is wrong with you. Very thorough and straight to the point. Keeps students interested with side stories that relates to the topic of debate. Great, Great, Great, if you want a teacher that is straight forward and fun then this is the teacher for you.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T TAKE HER! I'm only 3 weeks into the class and I've wanted to drop it from day 1. She doesn't even teach! She talks on tangents for about 20 minutes, then makes us go over questions, with a group, in the book instead of discussing it with us if we had any questions. This class is a waste of time! The book is also ridiculous.
A class that requires effort but provides a good foundation for writing papers in other classes. She is knowledgable and fair. You're in college now, expect to work harder! For those that gave her a low rating, consider all the spelling errors and horrible sentence structure in their comments. No wonder they had a hard time and are whining. BooHoo!
She does not teach, she degrades her students, she swears she is always right, and she gives her students no sense of freedom. She will embarrass you if she disagrees wh you. She can be unprofessional. A student told her he was taking her for Eng1 and she said Oh Great being very serious. She criticizes everything! Do not recommend her Take C.Kane!
Lot of work, but good teacher. Just do your work
Had this teacher in fall 2008. JUST DONT TAKE this class with this teacher. She does have a clear poltical agenda and anyone who disagrees with her will get called out! Potlics is more for a history course not an ENGILSH CLASS!
I came back to visit her recently. she was one of the best professors I ever had in college. She makes you work hard, but it will help you succeed in the rest of your college education. I couldn't get even a couple sentences on paper before taking her eng 105. she made the difference. Take her. Success come with hard work. DUH!
Talks more about Politics and has a really liberal agenda. If your a Republican this teacher is one to stay clear from. Very closed minded.
Do NOT take her. I am a 4.0 student, used to working really hard, and doing well. But this woman is ridiculous. Yes, I got an A, but she is not a good teacher. She wasted talking about things not related to class... diets, her husband, kate middletons wedding dress. I didn't learn anything, and yet I still struggled all the way through.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She also goes by the last name Pop, be careful! She is the worst teacher I have taken at LBCC. Not helpful, more like judgmental. She is so self centered and likes putting others down with her remarks. If you're late, she makes you buy bagels for the whole class the next day! Grades essays extremely hard. Stay away!
This Professor comes off a bit arrogant and self-promoting at first, which is true, but, like the Greek heroes she teaches about, has the accomplishments and credentials to back up any perceived bragging. However, she is a fair grader. If you show up for class and do the necessary work you will do well. In truth, she is a very nice, good person.
Murray is one of the best teachers I've had at LBCC. If you are in college to learn, she is definitely the teacher. Otherwise, don't take her! Gives almost eight essays , but she is flexible and helpful. All of the essay topics helped me to grow as a person. I would for sure take her again! But seriously, only take her if you are goal-oriented.
She is by far one of the best, well-rounded English professors I know. She will change you in one way, and she changed my way of writing. If you really want to improve your English writing for the sake of your future, take Professor Murray. I'm not saying she's easy, nor is she difficult, but she will teach you things that you may overlook.
Read the consensus within and stay away. SERIOUSLY.
You live your life, stories then told from experiences. But if they were published then why does a person who spent one semester with you claimed for the credits and bragged about it over and over, it doesn't make sense, but that's how Alison Murray or Pop does. Does she know that a book is cooked by a team that is bigger than her.
I was very skeptical to take this class due to the fact she has such low reviews. However, I went through and took the class and absolutely loved it!! Hard greater but it makes you more proud of the grade you earned! Lectures are cool because she relates to everyday stuff. Very organized and structured class. I hated outlines b4 & now I love them
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She is the worst teacher EVER! I got a B in her class, but it was very very very hard to achieve. She grades SUPER hard and is not thorough with essay requirements. Her lectures are irrelevant to the hw & goes off topic 80% of the time. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM HER CLASS AT ALL COST.
okay, so i took her class besides all the bad reviews, but let me tell you how much i regret it! please help yourself out and *STAY AWAY FROM HER CLASS* she's a tough grader and lectures hardly have any resemblance to the assignments.
Excellent professor! Definitely not an easy A, but it is incredibly rewarding. She provides great feedback is very accessible after class. She seems to genuinely care about her students and is willing to help you if you need assistance. My writing has improved drastically since taking this course. I have nothing but good things to say about her!
Hard grader. Class is tough but you will write a lot of papers.
This class is highly recommended for those in a English major. If you are in a different major you may struggle a bit because there is a lot of literature analyzes. Follow the syllabus schedule because it is like the holy book that will guide you to success. Beware of pop quizzes on weekly readings, 2 essays, midterm & final. Any textbook ed. is
This woman is a very aggressive and egocentric person. She is a very tough grader and doesn't give good feed back. She can be a bit on the mean side. I wouldn't recommend taking her again, it was not a good experience. Be careful
I am a psychology major, but I do not need to fulfill the education in order to analyze this individual. She does not belong in the education field as an instructor, students need guidance and not humiliation nor listening to an egocentric, who is more interest in showing off and inconsiderate to their need. Why does LBCC still hiring her?
I'm going to make this short- Do NOT take her class. You'll regret it all semester.
I don't understand why she has so many low ratings. I guess maybe she's different with her honors classes. Having Prof. Murray was a wonderful experience and I have nothing but good things to say about her! My writing has improved drastically since taking the course and I have become much more confident in my academic abilities.
You receive a detailed syllabus at the beginning of the course so you know what's due each class meeting. 4 major essays with outlines & rough draft/peer edits, 3 in class essays, 2 extra credit opportunities, & pop quizzes based on readings in the beginning of the semester. Overall fairly doable but you definitely work for your grade.
This professor is by far the worst I have ever had at lbcc. She is a hardcore feminist, rude, arrogant, and harsh at times. As well as discusses her political controversial views throughout class that to some can be quite offensive and in no manner should they be discussed in an academic setting. I dreaded taking this class the entire semester!
You will regret taking her class. Trust me! I've never dreaded going to a class as much as hers. She doesn't put any effort into creating a comfortable learning environment & complains when you ask for further explanation on assignments.
Sign up at your own risk unless you want to to class to listen to her personal life boasting of academic achievement(she does not have PhD)how many push up, how many miles bike ride she could do. When you ask for guidance she would be little you. Btw, bad teaching programming.
I found that her class was unnecessarily difficult. I used to find joy in English, but this class sucked all the optimism I had for the subject out of me for the semester. I didn't find her feedback very helpful and was actually more of a "what" you did wrong instead of "why" it was wrong. Also, she could be a little bias. Wouldn't recommend.
Her class was unnecessarily difficult. Murray's feedback only tells you what you did wrong with her rude comments. She does not help you to become a better writer, shes very discouraging. You will regret taking this class.
Avoid taking this teacher if you can. Likes to put people down and the class is set to fail from day one. This class was waste of money and time.
Professor Murray represents the problem with tenure. Very scattered. Students must depend upon her whims. Very poor lecturer. Rarely stays on point. Makes inappropriate comments about her children which should stay private. Has no tact when someone in class disobeys her rules. A tortuous experience to what was fascinating material.
I have never thought about dropping out of college until I took Mythology with Professor Murray. I'd like to mention that the class was split between honors and regular students yet everyone was basically doing honors work but not getting the deserved credit. She was very rude on several occasions. I'd never take her class again I'm traumatized
I took an online clas from Professor Murray in Fall 2018! She was an excellent professor and gave constructive and positive feedback. The homework and mandatory peer reviews really helped me with my own essays, and I can honestly say that I am a better writer after taking her class! She is so sweet!
Obvs tenured overthinking perfectionist content not hard but class made harder by her approach stay out of your students discussions, more of a flex of her knowledge vs Useful feedback when given feedback is rhetorical vs Instructional inconsistent instruction respect your students ime boundaries u dont know people's lives nor are u entitled to.
I won't lie, she's tough. She's very knowledgeable, and it helped to go to office hours regularly. Tons of work, but rewarding imo. Absolutely not a good class to take if you just need an english credit, but great if you're seriously interested in the subject and have the extra time to dedicate to it.
I really enjoyed taking her class and would do it again if I had to. There is a lot of writing (4 essays, 3 in class essays, 1 in class final exam, 1 oral debate). She gives great feedback and helped make writing one of my strengths. In class discussions are also really interesting and actually fun.
Prof Murray is great but it's not an easy class by any means. She's a very tough grader and extremely strict on showing up on time or early. She actually told students she was going to drop them for being late in front of the class. You will need the textbook and you will need to work hard on papers and presentations. Good luck. You'll need it.
I actually liked her lectures but being in her honors course was tough. The essays were a lot on your grade and it seems like she was never satisfied? The lectures were engaging though and I took the course online with no textbook, so it was a bit cheaper than other professors. A lot of participation is required in order to enjoy the course.
Hi! I didn't hate her class and English is always a bit scary for me so... Anyway, she does want to help her students become better writers and knows what she's talking about (strict? yes). All the reading was free and online. We did breakout rooms a lot on zoom for peer review and group work. She accepted my late/poor work for credit, too!
Online, Asynchronous Although I respect the amount of feedback and effort given, if your taking an ENG class just for the units, might want to look elsewhere. Prob the hardest I've had to work for a non-major class. If you're decent at English, the work load and strict grading will still surprise you. Taking ENG1 with different prof, way easier.
i'm sure while everyone has valid negative experiences on here, there are also AMAZING experiences with her that musn't be ignored: best english class ever. never boring. thought provoking. and the entire class was really close. def recommend for english honors! just participate, be openminded, do your work, go to class, utilize office hours, etc
Professor Murray may have her quirks but I enjoyed her class a lot. She was the only professor I had that didn't complain about classes being on Zoom and she made it work. She gave a lot of different approaches to learn the material. She gives thorough feedback, even though intimidating at first. It's not an easy class but is one of my favorites
Very responsive, always there to help, readings were entertaining, and she engaged in discussions asking thought provoking questions. The most involved professor you'll have for an online course that actually checks to see how you're doing. Very tough grader which actually helped me evolve my writing skills once I put in the work.
Her feedback didn't help me improve my weaker areas. It was tough to put so many hours in to get a B. If I had gotten the grade that matched my effort or if the class had helped me become a significantly better writer, I'd feel it was worth it. You should be prepared to experience at least some of the issues mentioned in the other reviews.
After being a bit hesitant to take this class, I very quickly learned that Prof. Murray is incredibly passionate about what she does, and she shows it in how she works with her students. The most challenging class I've ever taken, both work wise and subject wise, but I learned SO much useful information. Absolutely worth it, be prepared to earn it!
Compared to other professors on campus Professor Murray's class may seem difficult. However, Professor Murray is honestly trying to get her students prepared for the next level. She is very caring, hilarious, and she loves her craft. Although I really had to put in effort to pass, I would take Professor Murray again in a heartbeat!!!
I was concerned that Ms Murray would prove an excessively subjective grader, but that wasn't true. Doesn't accept late work but offers 2 free passes to request extra time. Murray lectures more on the cultural contexts of mythology than on myths as literature (exception for The Iliad). I found her talks funny and relatable with great photography.
Professor Murray is very compassionate and caring about the success of her students. She offers to guide you through the tough assignments and is clear about expectations of the class. Of course there is a lot of reading but what class doesn't have reading included in the course material. I would take another class with her if I could.
She's alright kinda rude I would find another professor
Professor Murray is passionate but can be intimidating. While her class is challenging, she genuinely cares about student success. Utilize office hours - she's happy to help. unstuckstudy also proved useful for prep.
Unfair and strict grader with unclear deadlines. Would not recommend.
She changed my life. Her class requires work, but you will be rewarded. I went from not knowing my commas to feeling confident writing at a college level. I am eternally grateful to her; she will believe in you when no one else will, and cares deeply about her students. I would urge you to take her and put in the work, and your life will change!
Never walked outside of a class with a longer list of recommended books till now. She has a genuine passion for literature which is enhanced by her experiences, knowledge, and well-spokenness. Gives very good feedback. Do your reading, take notes even if not related to the assignments. Heavily incorporates politics, psychology, and anthropology.
Attending this class is the biggest waste of your time AND it's required. This is a MURRAY3H class disguised as ENGL3H material. The first 14 weeks were about her accomplishments and political agendas, then she assigns you ENGL3 homework. When she isn't pretentious, she's a great professor, which is as rare a 4-leaf clover. find a dif prof
Do not come in super confident. She will humble you, but in a gentle, respectful way. I thought she didn't want to give me full credit for my work but after reviewing her feedback, I agree with the grades I received on my assignments. She's very easy to talk to and gives great feedback. Be prepared to do a lot of reading.
The main challenge is the volume of reading in her advanced literature classes. Attendance is essential; prepare to do a lot of small group work (if you enjoy that). She's not a super hard grader--she truly subscribes to ungrading principles--but if you need remedial work in composition, it may seem difficult. She wants to meet you where you are.
I could give 17312 reasons why I love Ms. Murray! She's so kind and always helps if you show effort. I took her class a while ago, and I still think about how far I've come with the tools she gave me.
Professor Murray truly changed my life, her teaching methods really broke down the barriers I had with writing. I feel that a lot of the reviews on here are people who didn't really put in the effort. Personally her class had the same amount of work as any other English class but she really pushes you to be the best writer you can be.
I took Professor Murray for ENGL3H She explains things clearly and really wants you to improve. She's super fair with grading and you can tell she cares about how well you do. As long as you stay on top of the material, you'll be fine.
Professor Allison Murray is a great professor. She is very passionate about her subject and wants you to gain the best college level writing skills. This class is 4 units, you will have to spend 3 hours everyday outside of class. There is a lot of group work and opportunities to participate in class. You will become a better writer.
Professor Murray transformed my view on education. She is supportive, organized, and dedicated to student success. Her modules build lasting skills, and her weekly office hours strengthened my writing. I am excited to take her Critical Thinking and Writing course in the spring! If you want to pass this class, show true effort, efforts will reflect.
Prof Murray is a very objective grader that gracefully lets us resubmit assignments with no penalty. Got 0s on several assignments (important ones too!), resubmitted following feedback and earned 90+ on each. If you want to sincerely learn and be held to the standards of true collegiate-level argumentative writing, I'd strongly recommend her class.
Professor Murray has a lot of respect for English literature which shined in her willingness to help me both in and out of class. I improved on not only breaking out of bad writing habits, but improving my critical thinking as well. If you come with an open mind, you'll find this course to be worth the time/energy.
Professor Murray is a very demanding instructor, but if you put in the effort, you will leave her classroom a transformed student. You won't just be better at writing; your ability to analyze information and think critically will level up dramatically. I highly recommend her to anyone who genuinely wants to learn and is ready to be challenged.
