Allison is an exellent teacher. She is one of those rare science teachers that can actually teach the subject, so that those who are not scientifically inclined can comprehend it. She isn't easy, because science isn't easy, but she gives you many opportunities to be successful.
I loved this instructor. She is fun, interesting, intelligent, and an excellent teacher. Tests are hard, but she gives extra credit assignments.
Hmmmmm great gal, hard on the tests. I hope she gives extra credit.
She is, without a doubt, intelligent, but her test are at a different level than her lectures. She needs a little more experience teaching and she'll be the perfect teacher.
Very hard class, but she makes it fun and enjoyable. Allison is such a smart and intelligant woman for being so young. She is ahead of her time.
Alison is a great teacher. Her tests are hard but once you figure out what she is testing on she is easy. She is very helpful. Great teacher, wish she was teaching more than bio..
She teaches with enthusiasm and humour. She pushes you to the limit as far as the material and her tests are not easy. Fun class with lots of field trips. I learned a lot and she is not hard to look at for an all day class.
Not a good teacher. She doesn't teach anything, all she does is write a bunch of crap on the board, and expect you to know what she's talking about. Then she quizes you on things she never talked about, and her tests are way off subject, and very difficult. she also takes the class on feild trips at your expense, not cheap either.
Allison is very enthusiastic about what she teaches. She takes you on awesome field trips! Her tests are hard, but everyone tests differently, so what's hard for you may be easier for others. Her tests aren't directly from her lecture. She really makes you learn the material. If you don't study hard you may not do so well...I would take her again!!
Very clear on lectures and tests are directly from the lecture. However, she is unfelixible about exams and assignments. Even when things happen like going to the hospital!! I don't consider her helpful at all!!
I didn't find her helpful at all. No make-up tests even if you are in the hospital. She is a psycho. Don't take her, you will regret it. I did!
This is one of the worst teachers I have had here at Grossmont! Her lectures don"t make ANY sense. Her exams and lab practicals are PAINFUL , lots f trick questions. Shes psycho! What ever you do don"t complain or she will get crazy! I wouldn't recommend her class to anyone.
The reviews were given to Allison below are extermely incorrect . I am currently enrolled in her class and let me tell you, it's a very hard class; However, Allison is a great teacher. She makes Biology fun and intresting to learn. If you want to pass this class, yo just need to show up, study, and do the work she gives you. it's not tricky!
This teacher takes an already difficult subject and makes it ever harder! Her tests are at a completely different level than her lectures.(which do not make any sense at all!)Plus she grades really hard, you cant win with her! Dont take her you will regret it! Go to Cuyamaca! You will be better off.
Makes biology as fun as possible. Keeps it entertaining and has her own jokes. Definetly want to keep ahead of the reading in the chapter. It makes a huge difference on your test scores!
She is an awesome teacher. Yess...you have to work in her class, but if you are having a hard time talk to her, she's always willing to help.
Anatomy is a hard subject. It takes lots and lots of studying. It is never an easy "A". I think a lot of the people who wrote negative comments on here were expecting something else. Allison knows here stuff. She is willing to work with you in office hours if you are having trouble with a topic. I would take her again. I wish she taught physiology.
Allison is a GREAT teacher but she is not going to just hand you an A. If you need help or dont understand something, just ask! She is an awesome teacher and really knows what she is talking about! But this is not a class that you should take if you are not willing to work! Ask questions, read, read, read, and ask more questions!
Allison is a great teacher, I am currently enrolled in her class and am doing good, if your a lazy ass your not going to like this class, you have to study for each exam like its a midterm. It is not easy but it is worth taking because you LEARN ALOT!! and that is whats important. she is very helpfull She is not crazy, very good teacher!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont know what any of you are talking about! And I dont believe any of these comments... She is crazy! Her lectures dont make any sense. And she grades really hard and unfair! What ever you do dont get on her bad side or you will suffer in more ways than one! Dont take her, you will be sorry.
She is hard. Her homework questions, I found online from another class in PA. It's anatomy, yes it is hard, but she takes it over the top. You all can yell at me. But she is not the greatest anatomy teacher there is!
Hard class. But dont get on her bad side or she will make your semester not fun. Has her favorites and if your not one of them good luck in the class. Actually has made me want to change my major because of the experience in her class.Lectures are ok but you literally have to study every single day to pass
This is a serious class. If you dont have the time and cant put forth the effort, then either take it with someone else or enroll when you are ready. Shearer is very helpful and makes herself available as much as possible for her students. Her lectures/labs are interesting. If you can make it through the first month, it gets better.

She's tough but fair. Work hard, study big time-she gives lots of tools. If you're taking this class you need to learn this stuff for the future. I like her lectures-study your notes & outline really well. She's good in lab, too. She's helpful and knows her stuff-if you want to learn then take her class. You won't get an easy A but you'll learn.
Ms. Shearer injects HUMANITY into the dryly exhaustive study of Humsn Anatomy. Sure, she has her favorites: those who stay on point and apply themselves. Most who complain cannot even spell English, so how might they memorize Greek and Latin terminology? Exudes charisma, wit and patience - no, maybe not the best teacher - but certainly one of them.
I really love her lectures which are very clear; her labs are quite interesting and she always willing to help you; but this is not an very easy class..so you have to study well her lecture's notes and read attentively and intelligently the anat book. I hope I could take her physio class for bext semester but I already took it!
she is tough but fair and is an awesome person, once you get to know her. cares about all her students so she gives you all the tools you need to succeed. not an easy A class.
Hard course! You must do all home work early, answer lecture outlines as soon as possible, read ahead always, review lecture notes within 24 hours of each lecture and strategically use your lab study in conjunction with the Biology Learning Center. Go to office hours with questions and she will answer if you show you tried to answer it yourself.
AMAZING teacher! I've taken this course 3 times, and I can honestly say she is the best teacher I've ever had. Study HARD; utilize that BLC! Trust me, you need all the study time you can get. Form a study group early, you can't imagine how much it will help you! She is ALWAYS willing to help as well, so use her! Be nice and she will be too, promise
Not only is she smart and helpful, she's HILARIOUS! Awesome sense of humor, makes the class a lot more interesting. Knows her stuff, so ask her! She's always making herself available, utilize that time she's putting aside for you. And, if you're feeling brave, ask her to do the cilia dance. You won't regret it!
Professor Shearer is an EXCELLENT teacher. The class requires that a lot of material be covered, but she is a realist and knows if anything should be cut out. She hands out a list of things or outlines for each test. Follow the lists, attend class, take notes, and you should do well!!!! SHEARER IS A GREAT TEACHER!!!
Allison is an amazing teacher!!! The class is difficult and there is a lot to learn. Know the packet and you will do good in the class. This class requires a lot of studing, but is worth it. Allison makes the class fun and she is hilarious! Allison is by far one of the best teachers at grossmont! Take this class!
Hot and the Best!
I still remember of reading negative comments about Allison before I took her class. But now, that I am finishing the semester, I will just say that all those guys who say things like "Allison is a psycho" are simply lazy, and expect to get through class into it. Grow up! Allison is an amazing teacher, and the one who truly KNOWS her stuff! TAKE HE
She loves the topic. She is very hard. She needs some anger management classes
Nice person, but HORRIBLE teacher. You may think you understand the lecture & the study guide but the way she asks/words test questions makes it almost impossible to get them right. She is available during office hours which helps a little, but even then, if you do not do well learning with her style of teaching and testing then you will not pass
She's hard because she cares. Be prepare to devote a lot of time for this class, as it can be very demanding and time-consuming. Wouldn't trade another professor for this class, Allison is simply the best. Use BLC and know your classmates, as they can be very helpful. It's a bad idea to survive Anatomy on your own.
I took her for 140, 141, and 142 this semester. Great professor and very funny! Tough material, but she really takes the time to help her students. GO TO OFFICE HOURS, read the material, do your homework, chapter questions, follow the study guide, and go to lecture and you'll do fine.
Hard class. online exam, really hard. But she is so sexy.
Be ready to loose your soul over this class. Anatomy is hard but she makes it even harder and yes she has favorites her tests are tricky go to Cuyamaca where the teachers r decent you wont have to write a reaserch paper either, my respect to the people that make it out alive and pass her class and their soul intact
Learn to love the BLC.Take lots of pictures and try + ace your lab exams as they comprise of most of your grade.1st two lab exams are the toughest.Complete research paper ASAP!!Lecture exams questions can be unclear. She will not clarify much for you on exams so its best to ask ?'s ahead of time.Don't plan on taking a heavy class load this semester!
This is a class with a lot of information and is not for the slacker. Study everyday and you will do well. Go to the BLC and study the models. I really enjoyed the class and learned alot. I have used a lot of what I learned in her class everyday at work.
i took this professor for anatomy, physio and physio lab. she is honestly THE best professor i have ever had. she does expect you to study and expects you to learn the material (hello, most of us are going into the medical field to work on real patients) but she will do what it takes to make sure that you understand what you are being taught.
this instructed is not willing to help you. It is a dog eat dog class. No tutor for this class, her test do not go with her material. I will not take her class again or recommend her.
Tough but great class. Work hard, start strong and you will do well. Prof Shearer is a bit hard to approach in class, but makes herself avail in office hours for questions and help. Expectations are clearly defined. Very Organized.
Not even half way through the semester and am already fatigued from this class. Word to the wise, do not take any other hard classes in conjunction with this class! LIVE @ THE BLC. *Nursing majors-Due to the newly instituted point system, you must earn at least a B in this class to even be considered for the nursing programs @ Grossmont!Good luck!
Allison is a very good teacher and you will learn a lot. I have taken her for phys lab, anatomy lab, and anatomy lecture. I did live at the BLC, but this is a class that requires some studying regardless of the professor. Its not an easy A, but she will help you and she is kinda fun.
She is one of the best teachers I've had at Grossmont. Very helpful. Slacking off will you get you an F. Studying and working hard will give you an A. I've had her twice, and trust me, she knows her field. I highly recommend her for people majoring in Nursing.
why does this person who commented last sound like a professor? i would not trust that this person was an actual student. If you want to be successful dont take her. Waste of time. GO TO CUYAMACA PEOPLE!!!
Allison knows her stuff! If you actually want to be prepared for the medical field and learn from the best, she is definitely the way to go. If you're not willing to put in the work expected at the college level, you don't have a chance.
This is a very difficult class prepare to work hard, exams are extremely difficult and don't go with the lectures,She is not very approachable, but she knows her stuff and her lectures are good. You must study hard to succeed in her class.
Allison is very hard, but if you focus and put forth the effort you will do well. If you want an easier class that offers extra credit, take Caldwell. Allison doesn't respond to emails timely and has an attitude. It's impossible to catch up once you're behind. Semester started with 70 students, ended with 12. Average grade was a C.
Just took the final today... hard. You have a test once a week and a case study as a final. The entire class (before the final) was only worth about 200 points, so every 3 point assignment counts. She's not the most approachable teacher, but you will learn a lot. Taking her lecture and lab together will help. Half the class was left
She's a great teacher, explains things clear. She has a reason to be hard on students entering the medical field. You must enter the class understanding that she's going to expect a lot from you -just be prepared. But overall I'm truly glad I took her.
People who says she's horrible are just lazy. If you want a teacher that really cares, then I highly recommend her. She's very helpful and clear. Anatomy is hard, but she makes it easy.
Allison is by far the BEST teacher I have ever had. Yes, she is very difficult, but she is preparing you for the Medical Field. Lectures are fun & easy to relate to. Lab tests are plain & simple: know all of the stuff on the study guide. She is available during office hours at least 2x's a week. FORM A STUDY GROUP! Would take her again! :)
I will like to say that she is the best teacher I ever had. She has so much knowledge in the material. honestly is not easy is a matter of study hard do flascard. Is abour dedication and lots of study :)
This teacher makes Anatomy almost impossible. She teaches like she is a high class university professor. None of the tests that she gives are from the lectures and the questions are worded so tricky there seems to be multiple answers. She is condescending and insults your intelligence if you are not one of her favorites. My advice: Live in the BLC!
Be prepared to be lectured and keep qestions to yourself, unless you can make the 80 minute office hour/study session. Can't make it to office hours to bad, this is the only time you may come a knocking on her door or be sent away. She is very smart, but that doesn't make you a good teacher. I went to be taught not lectured.
Allison is awesome. Her class is by no means easy, but doable if you know how to study for it. I definitely learned alot from her...she is an excellent teacher, and has great taste in shoes :)
By far one of the best Anatomy teacher out there! She give you the best mnemonic to help memorize all the bones, muscles and skin. She gives clear instructions, expect the best from students, she has high exceptions but only to help student prepare for the future. She is not easy but the way she teaches will help student in the long run!
I began this class with the best intentions. Shearer has a reputation for being "tough". I did not realize she was totally unapproachable, has major attitude and enjoyed belittling her students. This was the biggest waste of time and my hard earned money! Exams are impossible and not aligned with the material lectured. Recipe for failure!
Amazing teacher, really tough, but you will definitely learn! She makes a really dry subject into a fascinating and sometimes funny one. She's hilarious. Take her for anatomy.
Very sarcastic, very tough on grading. Has the appearance of having it all together, but lectures and outlines are choppy, makes a lot of mistakes, she gives very few examples and doesn't tie it all together to give us the big picture. She uses a lot of student sumitted questions for the exams, which results in errors and a very random feeling.
By far the worst teacher at Grossmont College. They shouldn't let her teach at all. She acts like she's teaching University level. After the first test she told me it was impossible to pass her class and she failed me on purpose because i put all my effort. She's rude and moody. She makes fun of everyone. Don't take her classes.
I took her BIO 140 & 141 together. Both classes are very difficult, but if you put in the time and effort it is definitely doable! I got a B in both classes. The tests are hard especially in physiology. Go to office hours and ask questions! She is very helpful, but she does not just hand out the answers.
Take this teacher at your own risk. She prides herself on being tough and guarding the gate to the nursing program. That would be ok if she could actually teach well. What you get is sarcasm, putdowns and treatment like you are 5 years old. Again, take this teacher at your own risk..you have been warned.
i took her class last semester and i got a B+ even though i should have got an A because she miss calculated she is very condersending, but she does answer questions well enough for you to understand...phiso is alot of information to take in but she does try to have u learn through fun activities at times....she isnt bad but ive had better
Allison is brilliant, well spoken and means business. I loved her class, and would highly recommend her, only if you are serious about medicine. Lectures are fast paced but she is organized and easy to understand. (I recommend a digital recorder) Lab practicals are extremely difficult, but if you put in the work you will do well. Final optional
its a difficult subject to say the least. if your going flake or think you will cruise through dont bother signing up. you will get behind and drop. after the first month she was more approachable. never made it to an office hour because of another class, something might consider. if you smoke or drink energy drinks she will harp on you to no end.
don't waste your time because you will drop it at the end , we had started 45 and the class ended with only 12 students, sooo tough and her outline not organized at all , weird test questions
I just had my first exam. Was expecting an A but feel like I'll pull out with a B. exam was difficult considering I stay on top of material between exams and probably put in about 60 hrs of studying the 7-8 days prior to the exam. She knows her info but she seems rather unapproachable. She hasn't been rude directly to me but she is towards others.
Tough class but if you want it bad enough you will. she is a tough teacher yes, but she is really funny and helpful if you ask. don't miss class its not worth it. record lectures. i failed the first two tests but still came out with a B. if your not willing to put in a lot of time and work don't take this class.
Sarcastic, rude, provides outlines but doesn't stick to them. She is all over the place - you never know what is going to appear on the tests because she uses student submitted questions instead of coming up with her own!!
I LOVE Allison! She is an amazing teacher! Her lab lecture is so clear and easy to understand! She writes all the notes you need on the board. She is a tough teacher but I love that about her! Her sense of humor is awesome too! If you want an awesome Physiology lab you should take her class!!!!!!!
Allison is great. Her class is really hard because there is so much information packed into such a short amount of time. She is super helpful and is a great teacher. She really knows her stuff so if you have any questions just ask!
I absolutely LOVED this teacher. She is strict but if you are planning on attending the nursing program you want strict. She is very clear on what she expects, some say the exams were difficult but they were medium difficulty for me. You will need all the time you can to study, don't cram at the last minute and don't be late to class:)
She is amazing, overall she wants you to know, understand and apply the info learned. She is heavy on the book and also assigns extra reading materials. She could stress on more on drawings for hard concepts during lecture because her lectures get very robotic/ too prepared. Shes Definitely helpful, just be yourself, b e confident and ask questions
Loved this class, and loved her teaching style. She is very organized and provides an outline for you to follow and read ahead on. Reading the material in the book is important, and spending lots of time in the ALC is important as well. She is willing to help as long as you ask the right questions, there are no freebies in this class.
Allison is a wonderful teacher. She is enthusiastic about the material and seems to really enjoy teaching. Her sense of humor is awesome, too!
Take her class if you are planning to get into a health care field. If you don't, you are making a mistake. She will do her best to make sure you understand the material. Best teacher! Really glad I took her class. Miss her so much! Class is extremely hard. But if you do exactly what she tells you to do, you will pass with B or above. Good luck!
Very strict, very particular, student is always a suspect (you can only look at the ceiling or your paper during tests, & no bathroom use; otherwise you fail), absolutely no middle ground & she is always the one that is right if there is confusion on any question, & self learning is big. Does this make her a good or bad teacher? That's up to you.
My biggest issue with Prof Shearer is how she chooses to teach. She leaves you with most of the work, which IMO is irresponsible when teaching an introductory Anatomy class. She states the facts & leaves you to figure out her critical thinking questions. It seems she's not interested in engaging students. I think this makes her a poor teacher.
This is a tough teacher. She's not friendly, not helpful, doesn't care about you, won't answer questions, and expects you to know everything without even being taught the material. She's inconsiderate, strict, and a tough grader. She's excellent prep for Allied Health Science courses but egregious in her teaching style and very bitter. Be on time.
This is by far the best class I have ever taken. Her class inspired me to be a better student. She really has a passion for anatomy and is willing to help. She is extremely structured in her lectures and lab, which could be seen as strict, but she is basically giving you an outline to succeed. A LOT of work but absolutely worth it!
She it one tough professor but in the end you will appreciate how much she pushed you. Independent reading is a major part and she basically makes you learn everything on your own but she answers any questions you have and is very clear. i would recommend her.
Shearer knows her stuff but she is a ruthless teacher. She is ridiculously strict in lecture as well as lab. Don't be late. Not even 5 minutes. There are better BIO teachers, so avoid at all costs.
Best teacher Ive EVER HAD. If you plan on succeeding in State, she'll kick your ass into shape for it. READ anything and everything she gives you, and go to office hours. She gives a study guide, and many of test QsEssays come from back of book, Study Guide & HW. I don't recommend taking with other 45 credit classes. She has zero tolerance for BS
She is really strict! Don't take her class, she is also a tough grader. When it comes to lecture, she expects you to know everything and expects you to read before coming to class. When you ask her questions, she would ask you questions like: Did you check your textbook? You should know this by now right? Totally don't recommend her.
She is the toughest teacher I've ever had. Tests weren't very clear and would never help clarify what she was asking you. I understood later on how to get the hang of how her tests work, but by then it was too late for me and I had to drop the class. Be prepared for a lot of memorization and self teaching because she will not help you
Had to drop her class, she is one of the toughest teachers I've ever met. I wouldn't take her if you aren't planning to go into nursing. Her entire class is to prepare future nurses. So if that isn't your goal, don't bother. BUT she is an amazing person, who is really passionate about her work. So if nursing is your thing, she will prepare you.
Professor Shearer is truly the perfect teacher to take during your prerequisites for any allied health programs, especially nursing. She is a tough grader, but she has open office hours in the Anatomy Learning Center, so if she isn't available you have the tutors. Also, most of her lab classes are open study time, which really helps!
I really enjoyed being in professor Shearer's class. She made both lecture and lab fun and interesting. She cares greatly a bout her students and wants them to succeed. I looked forward to being in her class everyday.
The hardest teacher I have EVER had. If I were do it again I would've started reading way before class even began. Read ahead of her! Make sure you do concept checks and answer all the questions in the back of each chapter (she pulls some questions from there). If you don't understand ask a tutor or in her office hours ONLY
She really is a tough teacher, but mission is possible. For most people, her recommendations are vital, but for those who knew something before, her class is rather an entertainment. If you don't necessarily need an "A", then go ahead and take her. Her "C" means and contains more than "B" form other teachers.
Students! There are better teacher out there so don't waste your time taking her class. Her lectures are useless, confusing, and demanding.
No no no and noooo! Wouldn't take any class with her ever again! She is the toughest grader on campus and she is the most unhelpful teacher that I've met. Why I wouldn't recommend her: 1) Tough Grader 2) Expects you to know everything 3) Confusing Teacher 4) Not Hilarious at all 5) Not Helpful 6) Plain Boring 7) Lectures Alien Language
I didn't really like her at first but I definitely ended up respecting her so MUCH! Read ahead and ask questions during office hours. If you go to her office hours and sees you trying SHE WILL HELP YOU get the grade you want/need! Good luck!
The hardest class/thing iv'e done, this class will challenge you. I would recommend taking another professor. It's true she will prepare all future nurses but, let's be honest if you're applying to SDSU a high gpa is an obligation, taking her class will simply lower it and hurt your chances of even getting in
She's one of the best teachers I've ever had. I've learned a lot from her, she's open to questions and she is willing to help you get to where you need to be. Anatomy alone is a hard subject, but she made it a lot easier for me.
If you are serious about entering nursing school then this is the teacher for you. She's a tough cookie. But, she's preparing you for the real grueling world of nursing. If you just need to take anatomy for another allied field career, Cuyamaca is a far better choice.
Study guides were somewhat pointless for exams. Staff was somewhat difficult to approach. Students pretty much had to learn material on their own terms or with a good study group. Learning environment could be distraction at the ALC a lot of times. Tutors were helpful though.
One of the hardest classes I've taken up until this point but so worth it taking this teacher. Get to know her and she is very approachable. Very willing to help her students. Enjoyed her as a professor and a person. This class will challenge you like you've never been challenged before but this will only prepare you for nursing/ other programs.
Professor Shearer is awesome! She is definitely one of the better lecturers I have taken, and I have had a lot of professors in my life. She uses humor to facilitate her lectures, and has a lot of energy. She explains the information in a way that makes it easy to understand. All the anatomy information is up to you to memorize, so be prepared
I had to drop her class. I have taken Anatomy before , but this teacher is more intense. She gives you study guides that are pointless and her lab test are hard I dropped before I knew my grade. I would not recommend her.
Professor Shearer is the best teacher I have had at grossmont. She really cares about her students and does everything she can to help you pass but you do have to do the work. If you are taking this class because you are going into the medical field take her because she will help you prepare for what your next classes down the line will be like.
Professor Shearer is the best professor I have had. I came back to school after 5 years and anatomy was the toughest thing I have ever done but professor Shearer is very invested and willing to spend the time on her students. Keep on task and this class isn't so intimidating. Professor Shearer creates a great learning environment.
Shearer is a great professor! I took her for anatomy lab and she goes over everything you need to know for the test in class and sets up practice stations to help. Youll have to put in an effort to study outside of class everyday, but as long as you keep up with the material and study EVERYDAY you will be solid
This is the most challenging class that I've ever taken but she will prepare you for ANY healthcare-related program. Chapter review & study guides are VERY helpful. Work on them as you get through the chapters, get them checked & review. They help you understand the material & they really do appear on the exams. Written answers EASY points!
Her class is hard!! you have to put in the time and effort.. but she will do everything she can to help you
She is very bad teacher, Actually she should not work as a teacher, she should work as an inspector because she does not trust anyone. she is tough teacher never take with her again
She is disrespectful and rod teacher, she is crazy and make us crazy with her. Everyday came with different mood and treat us with hedr which make us feeling very bad
she is the worst instructor I advise do not take her class and if you do you will keep in mind that you will pass with C or may be you will not pass the class, she is not understandable
she is tough, vain, disrespectful teacher. she treats her student as children. do not take any Bio class with her.
Worse instructor ever!! she needs to work as a police officer instead of a "Teacher" because she is very strict with everything in the class and she doesn't provide good educational environment.
Anatomy was the hardest class I've ever taken. I took Shearer for anatomy lab. She is a great teacher and is more than willing to help, but YOU have to put in the effort to study! EVERY DAY! 4 lab practicals, nothing else. Take advantage of open study time and the ALC. If you put in the effort, you will pass! Lab is only approximately half of grade
Professor Shearer is no doubt THE BEST professor I've ever had and i can confidently say you are making a mistake if you take Anatomy with anyone but her. Put in the effort and she will recognize it and help you pass. Go to the ALC, OFTEN. Read before class, and study consistently. Taking her class has rewired the way I approach studying and exams.
She is one of the best professors of groomsmont college. She makes learning of the hard subjects as interesting as possible. She has a great sense of humor. Everyone will enjoy her class. She will goe above and beyond her line of duty to make sure you understand the concepts.
By far one of thee worst professors I have ever had in my entire school history (I have 2 degrees already and am working on my 3rd). Never in my life have I had a 20 page syllabus distributed on the first day of class, that was bizarre and I should have known right then and there that was a red flag. I dropped by the deadline; get out!
Her class was terrifying. It's like being smacked in the face with a giant bag of common sense, humor, and accountability. Can you imagine a college professor that expects you to show up for class and actually use your time to study the subjects? Yeah, she did. Now imagine a professor that enforces rules. Yikes. Put on your adulting pants for this.
Shearer prepared me for nursing and life itself. Anatomy is considered the right of passage for most pre-med/nursing/allied health careers and it WILL be a hard class regardless of the instructor. You must form a study group and utilize the ALC almost daily if you intend to pass! AMAZING PROFESSOR, but be warned she will make you earn your grade.
I found both lecture and lab incredibly detail heavy, but what else can you expect from a college-level anatomy class? Prof. Shearer presented everything in an informative and helpful manner, and there is no doubt she knows what she is talking about. Plus, she's got a great sense of humor. Definitely not an easy A but the hard work pays off!
I do not recommend taking any of her courses. She is way too difficult, isn't really much help, she treats her students like children instead of the adults we are, the little credit we get is not enough for all the work we have to do, your grade is mainly based on your exam scores for lecture and lab. Again I do NOT recommend her class!!!!
This is the worst class I have ever taken. She belittles her students instead of encouraging them. If you do well with negative feedback then this is the teacher for you. Anatomy is a VERY tough class anywhere but she seems to make it harder with IMMENSE amounts of information without much explanation. Be ready to learn everything on your own.
phenomenal teacher. Not only did she do everything she could to teach us and make it interesting (great sense of humor), but she cut out 2 labs to help us study for our lecture portion of class because our lecture teacher wasnt getting the job done. Super organized and understanding of your outside life & gives you the tools you need to succeed.
Her explanations are very clear. She cares about her students and try her best to help them understand and succeed. The best professor. I highly recommend her.
By far the hardest class I've ever taken but with the best professor ever. People giving her bad reviews should be mad at themselves because she gives you all the tools you need to succeed. She is caring and very helpful if you try. Reading is a must and so is studying in the ALC if you want a chance to pass. She will prepare you for nursing school
Very tough and challenging class! But she will do all she can to help you better understand her materials. She will continue to work on your time management until the end of the semester, and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities to increase exam scores. I loved the bingo sheet, it was very stressful and fun ;D Overall, best professor!
For lab : get a whiteboard, utilize the websites she provides, VISIT THE ALC For lecture : RECORD, listen and add to your notes, rewrite lecture notes, read the book, do study guide, pay attention to hw qs, ASK QUESTIONS IN THE ALC Professor shearer cares, makes you work for it, and prepares you for whats to come. Good luck and keep striving!:)
Most condescending teacher I've ever had. Speaks to people like they're inept. From day one she treats everyone like they're 5 years old, and somehow thinks this sets people up to succeed? Most of my class failed out or dropped because they could tolerate it. I can handle the workload, but this teacher does not have one single leadership quality.
She is amazing! It's a very challenging class and if you want to pass, you need to work hard for it. Study everyday, watch videos of the topic online and record her lectures, these will help you pass. By far one of the hardest classes I took. But she explains her lectures clearly. She is very knowledgeable and caring with her students.
This is a challenging class so study a lot and watch videos. She is a great teacher and is helpful if you ask questions.
Excellent Professor. Very tough class to be taken over 6 weeks during the summer. All expectations were given up front, and she was consistent with every one of them. Study guides are difficult, but prepare you for the exam. This is a real college course, you must put in a lot of hard work if you want a good grade. Motivational Professor, and funny
She's funny and makes class entertaining. However, she puts on a show like she is this super nice lady and she is there to help. Yet when you ask for help- she makes you feel tiny and stupid. It is like she gives up on the students towards the end of the semester. If you have a C at seven weeks, just drop then. NOT EVERYONE IS A NURSING MAJOR.
The first lecture test study guide was 9 pages and the second lecture test study guide was 12pgs. the lab tests were just as much. Have to purchase online access($100)HW. If you are a nursing student this professor will teach & push you the way you need it! She offers helpful study tips. She does not care about your grade and can be harsh at points
Any anatomy class is going to be difficult. Prof. Shearer is extremely knowledgeable, an amazing teacher and tells you what to do in order to succeed. If you have a hard time in this class, then perhaps you should choose a career path other than healthcare. Prof Shearer provides plenty of resources for your success: ALC, tutoring, office hours, etc
Great professor, just grades at a pace comparable to that of the movement of the tectonic plates.
I'm currently writing this with an 89% going into the final. Shearer is a fantastic teacher. With that said, she makes it practically impossible to get an A. You will devote hours studying and reading the book, and she doesn't care. I'm sure you can find a teacher that will give you an easier A, but if you want to learn take her
The best teacher I've ever had. She is so knowledgeable, approachable and gives you plenty of opportunities to be successful. If you don't put in the hard work, then your grade won't reflect it. Simple as that.
I only took Shearer for lab & she is the absolute best! But don't get me wrong, as amazing as she is, she will make you work for your grade. It is not an easy pass class. You absolutely have to be on top of the online work & her weekly quizzes can be difficult so you can't just wing it. However, I stand by the fact that she is an amazing teacher!
Shearer is an awesome professor. She is very knowledgeable and teaches you so much in class. You definitely need to work hard for you grade, that includes reading the book, record and re-listen to lectures, complete the study guides, review notes, and homework assignments. Passing the class with an A is definitely possible. Also do all extra credit
Professor Shearer makes anatomy enjoyable. Yes there is a lot of work and memorization, but it will be the same in any class of this nature. She gives extra credit throughout the semester before each exam (both lecture and lab 4 exams each). There is an optional final to replace your lowest lecture score. She will make you earn an "A"
I was given only 4 exams for the whole semester. Everything was combined to memorize as if you were already a nurse.
She has an amazing understanding of anatomy, a killer sense of humor with reasonable yet demanding expectations. Many are overwhelmed by work load/tests. However, if youre going into The nursing program then this is the perfect class to prepare you for its rigors. For an A its a minimum of 20-30 hrs per wk. ALC time with models A MUST! good luck
difficult to bring your grade up because what really matters is acing her exams. doing homework barely helps. even doing her extra credit is a hassle because she's strict with grading them and only gives you little points. in the 2nd half of the semester tho shes less strict with grading them. gotta study lots of resources for her lecture exams..
Hardest class I've taken. Anatomy's notorious for being difficult, but Prof. Shearer's willing to help, very knowledgeable, funny, and posts good memes! LEC: besides basic prep: record lec, rewrite notes, READ AHEAD, try dynamic study modules in Mastering AP (really helped me). LAB: study in chunks, ALC, REPETITION w/ white board. Amazing prof!! (:
Anatomy is no joke. It's obvious this class is one that you have to work for, and Professor Shearer made it very tolerable. She has a quirky side to her and is nice to have conversations with. She has a clear grading rubric and has many sources for her to be contacted. Very organized and straight to the point. Direct and no beating around the bush.
This class was difficult. More than expected. Prof. Shearer kept her expectations high and clear throughout the semester. Read before lectures, record lecture, review lecture and add to notes, get a white board for lab, utilize MasteringA&P. It is a very time consuming class, being online made it more challenging. Tests count for majority of points
Fall 2020. I had to drop this class due to overload on classes. Terrible format of her teaching. Everything is basically self-taught with the exception of some lecture videos that she provides. No class meeting besides the test review dates that you need to go to. You must prep at least a month in advance or else you will fall behind and fail. :(
This is a hard class, but Professor Shearer made it doable. She allows students plenty of "self-study" time during class. You can use anything in the classroom to study, take pictures, use your phone, etc. Her tests can be hard, and at times I found certain questions confusing. She is not easy, but surely prepares you for higher division courses.
The worst of the worst that I have ever dealt with in my 13 years education journey. I would have given her a 0 if I could, she is not approachable. She thinks she is teaching the last semester in life, I am writing this because I don't want no one to suffer from her. 100 questions for 90 minutes. I wish I knew this before class started.
Zooms are mandatory for lectures. This isnt an easy class and this professor doesnt make it any easier for you. She expects you to know what she knows in a short amount of time. Work and test are somewhat unclear at times and no extra credit is given. I would take this class again if she was the only professor available, I dont recommend.
Professor Shearer was amazing and did everything in her power to help. She makes it clear that Anatomy and Physiology is not easy yet offers amazing resources that help you along the semester. Homework and tests are based off the book and if you read the chapter and study it, you'll do fine.
Terrible professor, expects you to do quizzes and assignments right before the semester even started, but she refuses to answer emails no matter how simple your question is till after the first day. On top of that she is pretty rude and can be quite a bee with an itch. Just avoid her if you plan on taking Anatomy.
Do not take this class with her. you will not pass the class unless you get a passing grade on the exams. The exams go up on points each time up to like 100 points and we have about 3 homework assignments a month or even only 1 and they're 1 point so 1 point compared to 100 is nothing. Its literally about passing her exams.
Very rude and overly critical. She makes sure you suffer. Save yourself the headache and suffering, if there is anyyy other option, take it!
Professor Shearer is very smart, that is not up to question. However, her teaching method is "confusing"and not good. Anatomy isn't easy and she is not helpful at all. If you have questions she would tell you to read the book. Your grade depends on the exams. Attendance is mandatory and if you miss more than 2 zoom classes, you're out.
This professor was very difficult to work with during this semester of anatomy. The class started with 50 people and it ended with only 10 people barely passing. She expected the textbook to teach us absolutely everything and the lectures she supplied did not cover much of what was asked on the test.
This professor was kind of bipolar. KEEP IN MIND she has this rule where you have to pass 3/4 lecture exams and 3/4 lab exams in order to pass the class even if you have a 75% in the class she will fail you if you fail more 2 exams in either lecture or lab. She does not reply to her emails ever and always uses excuses.
Professor Shearer is an extremely knowledgeable professor who prepares her students very well for higher-level courses. She sets clear expectations and is very transparent about the difficulty of the class, but provides many resources for her students. Take advantage of the provided note packets, lecture videos & study guides on Canvas.
Do yourself a favor and pick another human anatomy professor. if you fail 2 exams you automatically fail the class. I took this class two times and thinking that the second time I would pass but no (: so if you either are a fast paced learner or a genius then this is the class for you but if not take another professor.
Lecture tests were so hard and counted for 60 percent of your grade well lab counted for 30.Her lecture exams were probably 1 of the hardest test I've taken, and the sad part is she doesn't teach lecture. When we go to class all she teaches is lab we aren't allowed to talk about lecture. You basically teach yourself everything. No power points
Dont recommend lol. Gives you so many exams with no time to deeply understand what we are learning. Her lecture part is basically us teaching ourselves and her lab is giving us load of information so quickly. She let us know that most people will not pass her class, and recommended some people to drop the course because they were doing "bad".
Weird grading policy and very strict in class. Treats you like a high schooler even though most people in there are in their early 20 and mid 20s.
Don't recommended I'm a student who has been smart all my life but this teacher makes anatomy harder than its supposed to be I'm wondering how she even got qualified to teach when she doesn't teach us lecture. She expects the book to teach us everything then gets mad when most of the students end up failing her test. Please take someone else
Professor Shearer is a very caring and fun professor. I would highly recommend her, she explains the material very well and gives you many chances to succeed in her class. It is a very tough time consuming class, so be ready to study before and after class and read, read, read! As long as you put in the work you will see it reflect in your grade.
Very kind and it shows that she cares for her students. She is willing to explain material in different ways to make sure all students have a good grasp on her lessons. One thing I will say is that attendance is very mandatory as she goes over a LOT in every lab lesson. Overall very fun professor!!
Shearer is one of the most passionate professors' I've taken! She sets very clear expectations on the first day and offers help through out the week during her office hrs. It's a heavy info class so be ready to STUDY. Record lectures to revise your lecture notes, utilize lab time, read before lecture, and use her study guides and the textbook's!
This class is tough and time-consuming. The professor expects you to learn everything from the textbook, with lectures providing minimal additional help. While she's knowledgeable, her teaching style can be confusing. For study prep, try Unstuck AI alongside other resources to stay afloat.
This is by far the worst professor for anatomy you can take. Within a week before not even starting the class she sends an email stating the class is set up for you to fail. Has so slideshows, no chance for extra credit, her exam questions are not understandable. I remained in the class after failing first 2 exams and drop, she doesn't help.
you have to already know anatomy to take this class. that pretty much sums it up. very dense class
Expects you to use vocal recordings to practice for visual lab demos and allows absolutely no recordings at all. The lecture exams are full of questions about information outside of both lecture and textbook content and pretends that you are already a health professional. She info-dumps everything and expects you to memorize everything immediately.
Very lecture heavy, which normally isn't a problem, however notetaking is difficult for a visual heavy class. Recording visuals are not allowed, and the textbook and lectures are wildly different from the actual exams. Class is abnormally difficult for an entry level class, difficulty would make sense if it were a high-level class set for a career.
Enjoyed her lectures, but I didn't learn anything. You have to memorize the book on your own outside of class, while memorizing completely different material in lecture+lab; and you're expected to remember all of it come test time every 4 weeks. I understand it's to prep us for allied health programs, but her style of teaching is inefficient.
You're expected to learn and retain info by voice recording lectures and labs, as well as taking pics of bones and models AFTER class on your own. Tests cover nothing discussed/recorded in lectures. HW assignments take several hours bc her questions are more complex than the simple answers from the book, and you can only use the book for answers.
Shearer is honestly one of the best professors I've had. This class is definitely difficult but as long as you put your part in, it's manageable. I recommend to record lectures and take advantage of the ALC!
Don't be fooled by these other ratings-- Shearer is an amazing professor and so knowledgeable. Believe her when she tells you that this class is heavy and takes a lot of dedication and time, but nothing is impossible! Record her lectures and listen/take notes and you will be successful in this class. Take advantage of the ALC and study time in lab!
Questions are phrased to intentionally confuse you to “prepare you for nursing school.” Studied for multiple hours a day all week and barely cracked an A. It shouldn't be that hard. Having Alagia for lecture was so much better, showed me what a professor respecting students effort and learning actually looks like. Take someone else if you can.
This professor is horrible and even though the waitlist is full and it gets filled out, the class is nearly empty at the end of the semester because of how many have quit because of this woman. Does trick questions "in order to prepare you for nursing school". Very hard to follow. Is not very helpful in understanding.
I'll be straight to the point. No tech class. Can do voice recording for lecture. Notes need to be taken on paper. No pictures can be taken. Weird bc this is such a visual heavy class. No slides. Format of written lecture is not organized. Uses nursing to justify making the class hard. Would not recommend. Take if you absolutely have no choice.
She is a horrid professor. She expects students to memorize hundreds of things in very short amounts of time. She also loves to use her lecture time to talk about Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. I've listened to her brag about how her class is very difficult to pass. She often gives directions and then goes back on her word and gives Fs. 0/10
To be honest, these ratings are extremely dramatic. I'm guessing for most people this is their first class they can't cheat in. She is an amazing professor. Yes, you need to work hard. But you are going in to healthcare..so that comes with your major. It's not the professors fault you can't study. Work hard, study daily for lab, you'll be fine.
Half the class drops by the end of the semester because of how bad she is at teaching. She claims you need to know anatomy before you take anatomy and makes the most confusing questions and then doesn't explain them. Will kick you out of class for wearing certain clothes or if you have a phone out, no matter the situation.
