Although she was not the actual teacher for this class she is responsible for writing the tests. The tests suck and you basically have to know the Chang textbook and your lab manual forwards and backwards. Pray that you get an easy TA for your lab reports because they are the only thing that saved me in this class.
Evil Dragon Lady from Hell!!! Gets pleasure from making students fail and feel inferior. If you see her, just run!
Dr. Soult is awesome: she will help a student FOR HOURS on ANY of the material in CHEM 105/107 OR 115. CHEM 115 (lab) is NOT a breeze -- it requires active application of what is learned in CHEM 105/107 and the tests reflect that. THOROUGHLY prepping for EVERY lab will make the tests much easier. "EASY" TAs are NOT beneficial in prepping for tests.
Doesn't go along with CHE 107 at all and the labs are very drawn out and pointless...watch out for tricky exams.
She will screw you over. I was going to have a guaranteed A in the class and because I missed ONE LAB CLASS she dropped me to a B. She loves to own kids for stupid stuff. Necessary evil though for Chem Lab. All I can say is DO NOT MISS A LAB FOR THE WORLD.
if you take gen chem lab you'll likely have her, she is not very personable and really likes to make it difficult on students. If she can aid in lowering your grade, she will.
Not helpful at all. If you didn't get something she would look at you like your dumb and that you should have being knowing this for years. Don't care for her.
Yeah, she is not helpful at all! She is rude and if you don't understand the material the first time, then you must be comepletely stupid according to her. If you need help, find a good TA (Chris Noe, Miranda Lange) and get their help. Avoid her at all costs!
call her Dr. Salt and see what she does. lol
My experience with Dr. Soult's is I was asking to make up a lab because I missed due to weather inclination and she didn't look at me, she looked at her computer. Then she turned around to her microwave and started cooking lunch. That is rude.
the tests are completely dumb and drawn out. its like taking one of the exams for the regular class....never in a million years did i expect a lab to be so terrible!!
Dr. Soult must have written the 1 comment that is positive. Ha ha, that is just what I would expect! Dragon Lady is polite. It is true that she is hateful toward students, and really seems to seek out ways of lowering grades. She takes what could be a really cool experience and makes it miserable! Class average is purposefully held at a C.
Midterm/Final have nothing to do with the labs. You learn NOTHING from the labs- NOTHING. Huge waste of time. Lab reports are a joke. A good TA will save your life/GPA. These lab classes are a joke. I'm pretty sure she tries to fail students by making test questions harder than some on a che107 test. Hope she realizes no one takes her class serious
Terrible lab supervisor. Forces the TA's to grade "drafts" of lab reports without a student having any knowledge or teaching of how to write one. Can ruin a GPA. The online BB quizzes have flaws/inconsistencies & she simply doesn't care. An okay lady, but TERRIBLE at teaching students about lab reports & TERRIBLE at communicating. So disappointing!
I am an "A" student, or shall I say I was until taking this class. It is purposefully conducted to screw your GPA. Good TA (Chris Noe) but terrible lab supervisor. I've never even seen her face and yet she's our professor? It doesn't matter how much effort you put into this class, the way that the assignments are graded will ruin your grade.
I have never seen her before. Basically, your TA teaches the lab. If you have a good TA its awesome. If you don't you're screwed. I've heard of people going to talk to her and her not caring.
awful awful awful. she doesnt seem to care that students really struggle with the lab. the entire semester all we did were titrations. the class wouldnt be completely awful if there wasnt a midterm or final. the exams are harder to take than the chem lecture exams. soooo glad to finally be done with the lab!!!
Wow....the absolute worst teacher at UK. NO joke, she is absolutely terrible. she is mean to her students and extremely condescending if you have a question for her. Seriously, she is the worst.
I am not sure why everyone is dogging on Dr. Soult. I only went to her office hours once and she was very helpful and nice.
I think Dr. Soult is wonderful. She is VERY nice and helpful. I think her attitude toward you depends a lot on you and how you approach her. She was NEVER rude to me.
The lab manuals that she writes are straight forward in 111, but in 113 they were very foggy because she didn't give us any procedures to our experiments. That was kind of annoying. Overall, the labs are really easy. The lab reports suck but actually are really easy too. The only things that were difficult were the midterm and final in 113.
Hard class. she is no help at all. She is extremely rude and seems like she hates what she does
Horrid teacher. She will not help you if you are the least bit lost. She is rude, and acts like she's better than what you're attempting to talk to her about. Should be FIRED.
Extremely difficult to obtain an A. Midterm and final exam are written intentionally to be more difficult than lecture exams. Experiments are written vaguely and follow up questions are very diluted.
I had Soult for 111 and 113. She is not helpful. Very strict about her policies, NO MERCY. Almost impossible to get an A. She firmly believes in a C average. A lot of your grade depends on your lab TA, however. Pay attention to Blackboard and her emails. People miss her deadlines and online quizzes because they don't read Blackboard.
VERY rude and unapproachable. Tried to visit her office a couple times when I had questions but eventually never went back. She was much more interested in what she was doing on her computer than anything I was saying. I felt stupid for trying to seek help from her.
She is extremely rude and unhelpful. Going to her office was a terrible decision and she tries to be as unhelpful as possible. Probably one of the worst professors in the chemistry department. Has ridiculous rules about leaving class early, even if there is nothing left to do.
Don't know what everyone's beef with Soult is...I assume you all failed. She is very strict, & expects no BS. I went to her office many times for help. She's fairly unapproachable, but just brown-nose a bit. Be super nice & respectful since she isn't forgiving. She won't cut you any slack, but if you make a noticeable effort, an A is obtainable.
I agree with the comment below...Soult isn't bad, as long as you don't bother her with useless crap. She helped me every time I went to her office. Just approach her nicely, knowing she's strict and doesn't offer any leeway. My lab partner was scared to talk to her and got a B...I got an A.
She is absolutely TERRIBLE.I would say not to take her but for CHE 103, shes the only teacher. She is not helpful and she makes everything harder than necessary. Good luck
Not very helpful and can be rude. But her teaching style is not that bad.
I don't know why everyone hates her. I love her teaching style. I practically live in her office, where she is nice and helpful. She's very patient if you don't understand something. She is easy to follow and makes things simple. Just don't waste her time and DO NOT TEXT IN CLASS. But if you study, you WILL get an A
I don't know why everyone doesn't like her. I love her! One of my favorite professors. She makes everything understandable. She does move fast sometimes, but just ask questions and she'll be very helpful. Don't waste her time and DON'T TEXT.
Not the friendliest person in the world. but, she is clear and helpful whenever you ask a question. Bring your clicker everyday and DONT TEXT!!
She explains things really well in lectures and seems willing to help in office hours. I think she is a great professor.
Soult feels like a high school teacher in a lecturer's shoes. She is all business in the lectures, and she covers the material by the book. She does a pretty good job of explaining the material, though. Don't expect to enjoy the lectures at all, but if you go to them and pay attention the tests aren't too bad.
I think she is very helpful. I heard alot of people dont like her, but I dont get why. She explains everything and allows for questions. Make sure to bring your clicker and I would suggest to print out the lecture powerpoints so you dont have to write down every little thing. :)
She explains things well and asks if you have questions often to make sure you understand everything. Seems more like a high school teacher which makes the transition to college easier. I recommend her, just don't have your phone out during class.
Overall good professor. She always was available if you have questions, and responded to emails quickly. She does talk very fast,so be ready to take notes. She posts her powerpoints online which is helpful. Make sure you read the textbook while studying, because tests are hard and her lectures dont always cover whats on the test.
The most wonderful professor I've ever had. She always kept me interested in the class and was always willing to help. After having Dr. Soult I changed my major to chemistry.
Dr. Soult was essentially a high school teacher and not in a good way. She was a stickler for phones and used every last second of class. The homework is tedious. Her notes and the material appear easy but the exams end up being very difficult. It's nearly impossible to make a mistake on the exam and get an A since there are only 25 questions.
Dr. Soult was probably the worst professor I have had. I am a nursing major and was required to take this course. The semester before me was also a nursing class. She ended up curving their grades 5% and didnt curve ours. And that was our competition. I ended the course with a 79.8 and she wouldn't round it. She doesnt work well with her students.
Dr. Soult was knowledgeable of the subject matter, but did not know how to teach it. Her lectures were not helpful, I ended up watching Dr. Woodrum's podcasts to understand the material. She felt as if her job was to tell us the information and move on with her life. She could care less about each individual student. I do not recommend her at all.
I had Soult for both CHE 105 and 107. She was much better for 105 than 107 in my opinion, but her class was still fairly easy. She is a fair teacher and if you have a problem she is very easy to talk to. The best way to succeed in her class is to read the text book, take practice tests, and watch Woodrum's lectures that are available on iTunes.
Dr. Soult is an amazing professor. She is willing to help students during office hours and even makes time outside of office hours for students. I was always in her office with questions. USE YOUR TEXTBOOK! You can't expect an "A" if you don't work at it. Doing the practice problems at the end of each chapter is helpful.
Coming from a chemistry major, Soult really knows how to teach the beginner chemistry. Honestly, if youve never taken a chemistry course before, Id recommend her. Ive heard Woodrum is better but youll be able to learn what you have to from Soult just fine.
Very helpful but lectures are kinda dry
i think she is a very good teacher. she relates old material to the new material so you hear it a lot. very helpful when you email with questions. super nice!!!!!! clicker questions are very helpful also. her tests are over the basics and are not tricky at all. class is not very interesting but i don't enjoy chemistry in general.
She really knows her material, and although lectures get kind of dry, the tests are very straight forward! If you read the text book and do the practice problems at the end of the chapter, you can easily get atleast a B in the class. Shes very approachable and patient if you have questions, I would definitely recommend her.
She is a good professor. She will allow you to text her if you have questions. She answers questions pretty quickly. She is pretty strict about talking in class which is a good thing because she wants students to learn. She allows you to ask people around you and share answers. Her exams are somewhat hard; you need to study and keep up to do well.
A boring professor with weird phone and computer policies. I like her homework policies and she is helpful. There are better options for chemistry 105 though.
Soult very obviously cares about her students but she lacks as a teacher. Lectures are dry and homework comes from content in the book, not her lectures which makes some questions nearly impossible. She tends to answer the same questions 5/6 times which is very annoying. She knows chemistry though extremely well and is always helpful w/ questions
It was not bad but its hard if you don't know chem. if you don't know end you go to every class you still won't know it study study study. All I can say.
Good professor but her tests are tricky. So if you're not a good test taker, avoid her course. Other than that it's an interesting class.
Dr. Soult is willing to help but moves through material VERY quickly during her lectures. I found it hard to learn during lecture and ended up teaching myself what I could. Be prepared to study if you want to make a decent grade in this class and DON'T take it with multiple demanding science courses.
She knows how to teach the material, but moves VERY quickly. Most students have to learn the material on their own. She can also be demeaning to students, so not many will ask questions in class to clarify material. She will help though if you go to her office hours. Be prepared to study HARD and read the book often.
Dr. Soult knows chemistry, but for me this class was HARD. You really have no idea what is going to be on the exams and with only 25 questions, there isn't much room for error. If you go to class, do all the homework, and do the bonus assignments, it will help your grade a lot! Be prepared to work hard.
She has a weird phone policy but you'll definitely learn in her class. You have access to old exams and they're extremely similar. Homework is time consuming but pretty easy to get full credit.
Although I received a C in the class, Dr.Soult was a great teacher. The overall chemistry department at UK has an increased level of difficulty. She is very friendly, but professional. She makes jokes in class and tries to keep students interested. Study, USE THE BOOK for practice (VERY HELPFUL), and take good notes. Wants students to succeed
Simply amazing. Weird cell phone rules. She knows her chemistry and is there to teach, listen, and help whenever she can.
Tests are hard! With only 25 questions, there is no wiggle room. You either know the material or you don't.
This class was HARD. Homework is very time consuming. Soult is very knowledgeable, but moves really fast through notes and will call you out if you're on your phone. Her lectures go "bell to bell" so to speak down to the last second. Use old practice exams, tests are hard. You definitely need to study. Book practice problems are probably helpful.
Dr. Soult is engaging and interested in helping students understand material. The material is inherently not easy but she breaks it down so it is easier to learn. I don't like chemistry but didn't mind it in this class.
Good teacher, I have her again this semester for a different class. She's a little twitchy and it's easy to fall asleep, but she puts the print version of her notes online so it's not hard to catch up. You really need the book, but an old edition does just fine.
Dr. Soult seems a bit strict in class, but i can understand as the class is primarily freshman. However she really shines in her office hours. She is extremely helpful and clear, and very personable. She bent over backwards to help me and accommodate me (in particular for a final exam rescheduling issue). Highly recommended.
Great professor for CHE 105. Moves fast, but you have to keep up with the pace of the class. Very helpful and great at explaining things during review day for tests.
Almost the worst professor I've had. Cannot teach in class so I am paying all this tuition money to teach myself chemistry
She moves quickly, but she knows her stuff. Do not miss class if you can avoid it, and make sure you leave lots of time to do the online homework. The book gets used somewhat, but you have to have it as a reference for data. Dr. Soult doesn't baby you, but she's not out to crush your spirit either. Work hard, prepare early, and ask questions!!!
Overall, I didn't like her as a professor. She doesn't teach with a whole lot of enthusiasm, and is very hard to follow at times. I never went to her office hours, mainly because I like to teach myself the chemistry content. Be sure to do all the homework assignments and get all extra credit possible. This class is not as easy as CHE 105, for sure.
This was a required course for pre-nursing majors. This class was very easy for me, but a lot of my friends did not feel the same way. You have to basically teach yourself. Make sure you read and understand the book and you will be fine. This was the first textbook I actually read! Also, office hours are very helpful.
Tough class obviously. Soult moves fast so keeping up with her and the class is a must. Textbook use is heavy if you want to understand the subject better and practice for the tests.
I am no good with chemistry and this class was a breeze for me, She used tons of examples to dumb down the material. She's really nice too and always does her best to help you understand the material.
She's a great professor and expects students to put in the work
Shes not bad at the job. But i feel like there was something to be desired. I would have liked a different professor.
Hard class in general no matter what professor.
She goes way too fast to keep up. You basically have to teach yourself or hire a full time tutor. Do not ever skip or she will hate you and you will fail.
Her lectures are not specific and the practice problemshomework is completely different from the test questions. You basically have to teach yourself the material. Make sure you do the reading and take your own notes, or you will not understand the tests.
It's a weed out class, just get through it. She's better than most
The mastering chem assignments are way too long and the lectures get old fast. She does a good job explaining the material though I didn't have any trouble with the material just do the work no matter how tedious it is.
She is very easy to follow. However, when it comes to the tests you'll realize she didn't cover all of it. You really have to read and hope you pick out the right things to remember because when it comes to theories she does not touch them. Other then that she does a good job of teaching and will take questions until everyone stops asking.
BUY THE BOOK! It helps more than Dr. Soult. She is nice, but you literally have to read everything in the section to get a good grade on the test.
CHE 105 is a difficult course for most because of the amount of content covered, but I felt that Dr. Soult conveyed everything effectively. She takes steps to ease the transition from high school into college more than most professors, like posting videos to Blackboard that explain the algebra of more difficult chemistry problems.
Dr. Soult is very open and friendly. I never felt the need to go to her for help, because her lectures are very clear with lots of analogies and examples, but I know that she was always there when students needed her. The textbook is a good guide, but I don't think it's necessary to complete all the problems or anything.
Dr. Soult has a structured and informative class. She is very helpful during office hours and beforeafter class. She has lots of clicker questions and optional practice problems. The only disappointment was group days--I would've preferred to have lecture instead of group because the material was new.
She was decent. Not bad, not good. Lectures weren't very interested.
One of the best options for general chemistry classes. Not as good as Woodrum, but better than most professors. Lecture can get kind of boring, but she explains things well enough that you should totally understand it if you actually pay attention. If you take good notes, the textbook is completely unnecessary.
Horrible professor and not very nice. Took the class once with her and failed, took it again with a much better professor and did a lot better. Her teaching is awful and she doesn't even cover whats on the test half the time. If you get her, drop and add a different section with Blue or Woodrum.
As long as you pay attention in class, professor Soult will give you everything you need to do well on the exams. Most people don't do well in this class because it is one of their first college courses, but take her advice and practice book problems and do the homework. She's so good at explaining and will clearly answer any questions you have.
Soult isn't an awful Prof but her class is a nightmare. The test are a foreign language compared to the practice work she gives you. Most of the class averages on the exams were C's or D's and she does not curve. I made above average on all but one exam and still had a C. Participation and homework grades count for virtually nothing.
Soult was pretty good. I have to agree that she doesn't emphasize what is on the test enough. Her grading system was weird. I had a C at midterm and B for my final grade but didn't get below a B on tests. Her analogies really helped me understand conceptual components of the class. I would recommend taking her just be sure to read over chapters.
Good prof overall. Knows what she's teaching, but you gotta work for it.
Hardest class and professor I've had all year. Almost feels like she wanted no one to succeed in this class. Material taught in lectures never corresponded with the exams and three of our five exams were at a D average for the whole class. Incredibly difficult course, if you have to take this class like I did, then just try your best to survive.
She doesn't teach well at all. Considering I'm a visual learner and lecture classes are usually hard for me to begin with, but with this class and this teacher it seems impossible to get a good grade. I have been having to teach myself this whole semester and have never had to do that before and its so much harder than you think. Pick another prof.
Unclear lectures. Assigns HW over stuff you don't even know. Tests are not over stuff taught in the class. Doesn't really care how the class does bc test averages are usually Ds or lower and she doesn't address the issue. Make sure you read the book for extra info.
When studying for tests, USE THE TEXTBOOK. She will have a tab on Sapling that shows everything you need to know and the corresponding section in the textbook. I took notes on those sections before the tests and had no problem getting A's on them. Be sure to come to class and ask questions. She isn't the best but will help if you need it!
During lecture I always felt like I understood everything but the exams are completely different. She always says to do practice problems in the book but the exams are so much harder. It was an ok class, but I don't think she is a good teacher at all.
This is a hard class but Dr. Soult really goes the extra mile to make sure that you have covered all the material and you have as much practice as possible before the exams. The exams are fair and if you take her advice for studying you will most likely do well.
If you want to pass a test, prepare to learn everything on your own. The only reason I'm passing is because I have read the textbook over and over again by myself. She doesn't cover what the tests do in class, and it's really difficult to know what to expect. My advice: learn everything, if at all possible. Class is not helpful besides attendance.
The class is a little tough because it's chemistry, but she makes it so much easier to learn. She does so many examples and is always there to help her students. She is easily my favorite college professor so far! Take her before any other teachers for CHE105
Hard class. Need to study and keep up with it. Exams are hard. There are clicker questions everyday, and they count for accuracy. She was a good professor though
Very hard, and is not very understanding. Be prepared to work for your grade. I would not retake this course with this professor. I would suggest you find a different professor. If you struggle in chemistry, the University of Kentucky offers a CHE 109 and 110. It is CHE 105 but split up in two semesters. The lab is the second semester.
Dr. Soult makes her grading criteria clear, but doesn't really teach. She thinks watching videos can replace her lecturing. Get ready to teach yourself and read a LOT. She says she's there to help you, but will just direct you back to the text/practice problems. Only reason I have an A is because of the Gen Chem Center. Avoid her classes.
She is the worst professor I've ever had. She never teaches the content that's on the test and expects the students to teach it to themselves. When she does teach, she teaches "watered down" versions of things and puts much much harder application on the actual test. She expects you to teach yourself chemistry when many have never had chemistry.
She is a horrible professor. I taught myself the whole semester. Everything she taught in class is easier than what is actually on the exam. On group work days I was left clueless. Attendance is mandatory and poll questions are for accuracy. I would never take this class again. Good luck.
Soult is a great person! She is a good teacher for students who have had chemistry before but for me, someone who has very, very little chemistry, I'm lost. She talks extremely fast and doesn't do many examples. The Zaption videos she gives as extra homework is very helpful. On the 3 exams I got a D+, D-, C-. I have to retake CHE 105 next semester.
Soult is a nice professor. She is not much help if you haven't done much chemistry. She goes extremely fast through the material and does not give any examples. You should always go to class since your grade is 10% attendance.
I thought Dr. Soult was a fine instructor. The people that complain do so because they're lazy. She provides you with so many resources to help you do good on exams, which aren't as hard as she makes them out to be. As long as you pay attention and study you will do fine.
Pretty good professor. Made chemistry about as clear as it was going to get. Definitely willing to help during office hours. Likes to use technology in lectures. No complaints really.
Great at explaining concepts.
Awesome professor, definitely my favorite. Although the class is absolute hell, completely unfair, and the worst thing I've ever done, she is a very talented professor. Would not take course again.
I think Dr. Soult is an excellent chemistry professor. She was very clear about what would be on exams (i.e. FOCUS ON THE "LEARNING OUTCOMES" IN THE TEXTBOOK). She answered questions 24/7 and I think she does a really good job explaining difficult chem concepts. Do the practice problems in the book to study for exams. Go to class every day.
The class is tough, she knows what she is talking about but only covers about half of the material she tests you on in class. Definitely go through the text book (which she wrote herself) and work out ALL of the practice problems, the solutions will be posted to canvas. Go over ALL group work and sapling, nearly all questions are drawn from there.
Soult is very clear with what is expected of you. You will not pass this class by only doing homework and attending class. Highly recommend outlining each chapter in the book and doing the chapter review problems in the book.
Stern but like able, knowledgeable, ask for help if needed
Dr. Soult is a great teacher and an even better person. My interest in chemistry was the bare minimum and if I hadn't had her, I probably wouldn't have passed. She tells you exactly what to study and goes through everything on her power points in depth. You obviously have to take some initiative yourself, but she makes it very easy to suceed.
If you go to class, do the homework, and prepare for exams you'll do fine. The people who complain about her do so because they aren't willing to work hard. If you want an A you're going to have to work at it, but it is not by any means impossible! Use the homework and study questions in the book and LEARNING OUTCOMES to study for exams.
Very hard!
She is a very hard teacher. She makes you teach yourself the last chapter and you don't get any new perspectives because she is the person who wrote the book. She is the only CHE 103 teacher otherwise I wouldn't have taken the class. The problems on the test are nothing like what she actually gives you for practice. The tests are tough.
DO NOT TAKE HER. SHES THE WORSE. I warn you dude DONT. she does not explain most of the materials in class and count on you to do it by your self. You have to respond correct by using the clicker app, so you can get the attendance score. Incorrect choice mean, you do not have an attendance score for that day. She does not care about her students
She is a very difficult teacher. Each test's average was in the upper 60s. A good teacher would not have an average so low. She will help you if you go to her office hours (but theres about 20 other students there each time). She scoffed at me whenever I would ask a question which is demeaning because I have never been confident in chemistry.
I took Dr. Soult for CHE 105, one of my first college classes, and absolutely loved her! She gives great lectures and helped me outside the classroom with online homework and understanding concepts. Wish I had had her for 107!!
This class is essentially teaching yourself. She puts videos online that you have to watch/take notes on before class, & then usually doesn't review them in class. Class time is spent working on hw. She tells you what will be on the test, but a lot of times these topics weren't covered in the videos. Super tough, don't take it if you don't have to
Dr. Soult is usually very clear in criteria and what is expected from each student and each class. Also, the online textbook is very helpful and old exams provided along with instructional videos. You get what you put into the class.
Her lectures are online and you listen to them before class and take notes on them. When you get to class you work on homework the whole time. She doesnt review the material in class. The material in her lectures are very easy but when you receive the test it is nothing like the lectures.
I found this course to be challenging but defininteley do able Dr. Soult makes herself available 4 hours every week for questions you may have. Its important you understand that during class time we cover the general concept of that unit and its your responsibility to understand ALL of the learning outcome. If you do so y will be successfull.
Dr. Soult does not teach you Chemistry. You will watch videos online before coming to class and then you will do the homework in class, which doesn't make much sense to me... I found it helpful to make practice tests over the Sapling Assignments and do the practice problems in the book. I would just suggest not taking Dr. Soult..
get ready to teach yourself chemistry for an entire semester! She does not lecture during class, instead she makes you watch videos outside of class teaching you the lessons then you come to class and work on homework that you never get done during class.
Soult is fine as long as you're willing to spend time actually studying. The worst part is the lecture system she uses-- you have to watch them outside of class so it's up to you to make sure you know the material. Otherwise, the concepts aren't difficult and the homework is fairly straightforward. Just pay attention to the lectures and study.
Dr. Soult does have a "reverse classroom" style, but her class is not as bad as other people make it seem. She gives SO many outside resources available for her students. If you take advantage of her resources and study hard for this class then it is easy to get an A or B. I overall enjoy the class and Dr. Soult!
Dr. Soult has the reverse classroom style which is not for everyone. That's part of the reason why I didn't enjoy her class. In class, she doesn't teach at all and just makes you do assignments. Sometimes she could get a little "snappy" if you go ask for help in office hours.
Her voice is not pleasing to listen to. She is not a good teacher because we have to do lectures outside of the classroom and homework in class so the level of motivation to go to class at 9am is zero considering I never learn anything new in class. She does REEF so it sucks because you can't miss or it'll hurt your attendance grade.
Had to teach myself all semester. i am a person who CAN NOT learn this way. very disappointing bc she thinkings a "reversed classroom" works better than a normal classroom. You WILL be teaching yourself. She goes over things but the homework will be things you've never heard of.
If you don't like a reverse classroom setting then this class definitely won't be for you. Overall, Soult was a very caring and friendly professor. The exams are weighted very heavily on your grade and you need to study hard to do well, but Soult changes the weight of your worst exam & offers extra credit that you can earn throughout the semester
A lot of outside of class work!
I think she means well, but she is not a "teacher." You are expected to learn everything on your own. Class time is used to answer a couple general questions that may or may not apply to the current course work. After that, you work with your group on homework and she does zero instructing. I squeezed by, but did not really hang on to concepts.
Dr. Soult is someone that has not benefitted me/my education in any way. Her flipped classroom is smart but NOT for chem 103. The sad thing is, she is a nice lady that genuinely believes her methods are beneficial. Nobody else teaches this class so get ready to study 10+ hours a week outside of class to be successful & go ahead and book your tutor!
This class is not set up in a typical way. You do have to do a lot of outside class work, but she gives in class time for any questions. The tests are not that hard if you study for them. I recommend going over the past exams because some of the same material is on there.
I loved having Dr. Soult as a professor! For this semester chem was my favorite class, and she was a big reason why. 10/10 would recommend her as a professor.
Dr. Soult is very nice but she doesn't teach at all. She makes you watch videos that are very confusing before every lecture and I personally didn't understand anything she was teaching. I was better off getting a tutor because she wasn't helpful in office hours or in class. Definitely not a very good teacher at all.
She's an awesome professor! The flipped classroom took some time to get used to but she is always willing to help if you have questions. Its a large class so you do have to put in work to understand the material. Before every test do all the practice exams and the practice questions in the back of the book and you're golden!
Doesn't actually teach. You watch videos for homework that replace the lectures but you are graded in the middle of them. Is completely unhelpful if you have questions. I did well but only because I had already taken AP Chem, the rest of the class struggled a lot and for good reason; She doesn't really teach the material at all.
She didn't teach at all. The class consisted of her sending out videos before each class that were time consuming and hard to understand and doing homework in class (which the homework doesn't help for exams). Also there are only about 26 questions on the exams so you can't miss more than 5 questions to get a B! If you can avoid this class I would.
This class was tough and you most certainly have to put in work to get the grade you want. She is very easily accessible but seeking outside help may be necessary for success. To do well you have to do a lot outside of the class, especially if chem isn't your strong suit.
She does not teach at all! She makes you watch videos outside of class to teach yourself and the class is very exam heavy with grades. You have to put in a ton of outside work because it is incredibly demanding. I know of so many people, who put in SO much effort for this class without their grade showing it. Avoid this class if you can
This was a flipped classroom which I feel had a lot to do with why Dr. Soult did not teach very well. A majority of assignments and learning was completed outside of class and it was very time consuming. She rarely explained things during class, but she provided an online forum to ask questions in which responses were prompt. An A was strenuous.
This class has absolutely no instruction. You will teach yourself, with absolutely no help. I studied 40+ hours for each exam and did all of the required homework and went to tutoring and still couldn't get higher than a C on any exams. Exams are 75% of final grade.
This is a hard class. chemistry sucks either way, but Dr. Soult has lots of office hours and is always wiling to help. there is a lot of 'busy work' and its annoying, but definitely do it because you need all the points you can get. tests are hard. study with the old exams!! they're just like the real thing
You will put in tons of work outside the classroom for this class. You have to watch videos before class and answer questions about new content as you watch the video and you're graded on it. So if the new content in the video doesn't make sense to you, you're gonna miss questions and get a low grade. Avoid this class if you can.
Dr. Soult was wonderful. She really wants you to do good but she believes in students working for their own success. If you solely study the old exams you won't be prepared, doing the practice problems in the back of the online textbook she provides allows you to master the content. I have passed every test with an 85 or higher and I suck @ chem!
She uses a reverse classroom where you teach yourself the material at home and go to class and do homework and ask questions. There's not enough TA's so chances of getting your question answered is slim to none. Soult spent less than 10 minutes a week teaching us complicated chemistry. Worst class and professor I've ever had
get ready to teach yourself basically everything. the playposits due for homework are extremely vague and not helpful whatsoever, so therefore, you will miss the questions. the flipped classroom is horrible for this type of class because you basically teach yourself everything at home. i wanted to cry everyday during this class. BUY A CHEGG ACCOUNT
Dr. Soult is always willing to help students. This class has TONS of outside work, like watching videos before class. Come to class, attendance is taken every day with a clicker.
This so called instructor is terrible!! She doesnt even teach she posts her lectures online and you have to teach yourself!!! You do iclicker for participation points and the questions are hidden so if youre not in class you cant answer them. Your tests are 75% of your grade. Youll be drowned in homework that barely raises your overall grade!!!
Dr. Soult is a nice lady. She helps, kind of, if you go to office hours. You have to teach yourself and the TA's don't help as much either. Tests are 75% of your grade so if you do bad, you will fail. Even if you study, it's too much material for one test.
I could write an entire essay on Prof. Soult. Her favorite saying is "I make it hard on purpose to prepare you". That would be fine and all except her idea of making it hard is not teaching most of the material. I'm doing well in the class but that is from teaching myself. The only upside is a lot of stuff is dropped and reduced at the end.
If you have the opportunity to have a different professor, take it. I would never recommend Allison Soult, she does not know how to use the flipped classroom setting and then gets upset with the students. Use the TAs provided and the groups you are in to get your questions answered in class because her answers will be vague and unhelpful.
I put sooo much time and effort into this class. If I had not gone to office hours I would have done awful. I dont think you should have to go to office hours to do good in a class though. I spent many hours each day doing homework and trying to learn the material. Things were rarely gone over in class to the point where I actually understood it.
I was not a fan of the set-up of this class. Class time is a waste and consists entirely of iClicker questions, so you have to go even though the information is basic and repetitive. The material isn't difficult but this in this class, you pretty much have to teach yourself. Homework doesn't align with what we're taught, just frustrating.
Had I not taken AP Chem in high school, I might not have done as well as I did. Dr. Soult is not bad, but if you do not ask her questions directly about content, it can be hard to understand something. There is so much work for this class, so you need to have a schedule to spread it out so you aren't overwhelmed. Tests are worth 75% of grade. Sux.
The way this class is set up is so unhelpful, I barely learned anything and when you ask for help she passes you off to someone else. Shes a very sweet woman , I just cant get with the way this class is taught. It also takes up so much of your time every single day.
Soult gets paid to make videos that dont explain anything in her PlayPosit videos and then stand in lecture and not even lecture. She does not teach very well in my opinion, and her tests are graded heavily.
currently taking this course and this is by far the worst taught class i have ever been in. we are forced to learn from 3-10 minute youtube videos, and do a random activity in class. you can study as much as you want and will probably either fail or almost fail. soult does not believe in lecturing and fails at properly teaching this class
If you can take this course anywhere else, do it. This class does not have to be as hard as it actually is, but Soult has been failing for years to properly instruct the class. the tests reflect little to nothing of what has been discussed or in the homework and are worth 75% of your grade. Take this class at bctc because this class is ridiculous
10/10 would never take her class again. She is so hard to contact outside of class and is totally stubborn when it comes to grading and slip-ups on the students part. Her tests are ridiculously hard and although she knows what she's talking about, she is just plain rude and probably the least understanding person Ive ever met.
Its a reversed class a lot of time is dedicated outside of class. If you pay attention and study its not terrible the content is just hard
Dr. Soult is the worst professor Ive ever had in my life. She teaches things in her lectures and gives us practice problems in our homework that dont match up with the tests at all. I understood the class material and for some reason ended up failing almost every exam because of how she sets them up. Her teaching ability is awful in my opinion.
I say this with sincerity, if you need a good gpa, dont even bother taking this class with Soult. Shes insanely insecure over criticism of how poorly she teaches the class and does nothing except blame students. The class average is almost failing, which in itself is telling. Talk to your advisor and see if theres any other options you have
She is the hardest professor I have ever had. The whole class is based from PlayPosIts, so class time is irrelevant, but you still have to show up for some reason. This class was a requirement for my major, but I wish I never had to take it. Good luck pre-nursing majors. I used to love chemistry before this class.
There were a lot of problems with this class. Exams are a big one. I also think that going to class was a huge waste of time. If we're going to have to listen to lectures online, what's the point in doing busy work group activities for 1 hour? She also acts oblivious when students express their concerns about not being well-prepared for exams.
I was awful at chemistry until I took her class. This class had a very heavy work load but she was always available and gave you many opportunities to improve your grade. You have TA's to help you but I found I talked to her just as much in class as I did my TA. Highly recommend her
If you don't have a strong background in chemistry from high school, this class will be intensely difficult. It is an absolute nonstop barrage of new concepts that are introduced then dropped just as quickly for more. Playposit lectures give little room for error as you learn the material. And homework takes up several hours a day.
Awful Prof expect to teach yourself everything. Always has a bad excuse for why she post EVERYTHING late. Cant teach or take feedback.
Just to warn you, this class is legit torture. She cannot take feedback and her class averages for years have always been either failing or almost failing grades. The class is insanely ridiculous and you essentially speaking, teach everything to yourself but the content is so hard. Ask your advisor if there's any alternatives to taking this class
Soult has to be my least favorite professor by far. Her grading is so unfair and she does absolutely nothing to try and help her students raise their grades. The class is not easy. The playposits do not accurately represent the material presented in saplings and tests which makes this class 100% harder. Good luck if you have her.
This class is pretty difficult but Dr. Soult does a good job of making the content a bit easier. The only major issue with this class is that the homework assignments are usually quite a bit different than the tests. Exams are worth 75% of your grade, but all of them are open note. Don't stress too much about this class, but be prepared to study.
I found this class very difficult. Playposit videos were simple for the most part and then the homework was extremely difficult in comparison. Playposits and Sapling have little impact on grade, so the exams are very important. Even with the exams being open note, this was the most I've ever struggled with a course and I barely scraped by with a B
HORRIBLE class. Tons of assignments that do not help you on the exam. I refuse to repeat this class with her again.
She's a really good professor. She is good at explaining things and talking through things with her lectures. She sets all of her students up for success. Amazing professor, chem is just a difficult class.
Wants you to fail. Does not even teach. Dont waste your time taking her.
Tests are your determining grade for this class. Your homework assignments will take your time up, but are very complex compared to the examples shown in lecture videos. No late work accepted ever, never gives extensions unless under EXTREME circumstances (where proof is needed.) Dont bother emailing her. You fail you fail, she doesnt care.
Awful, worst class I've ever taken. She doesn't care about any of her students except the ones doing well on the tests. Very inconsiderate, condescending, and rude. 0/10 do not waste your time or money on this professor or class.
I haven't been in this class since last year but I'll always return back to warn future students of taking this class. Do not think you'll be the exception, this class is the worst taught class I've ever been in and unless you practically already have a degree in chemistry, this class will be torturous. Talk to your advisor about other options pls
do not take any class with her. she doesn't care about students unless you're in the top percentile. when you ask questions she just tells you to refer to the syllabus and study harder. her alone made me want to switch majors.
Actually dont mind her. Does she make class made extra hard on purpose for no reason? Yeah. But if you do the work, the practice problems, and the practice quizzes before the exam youll be fine. The ppl that hate her are the ones who don't put in the time and work for a good grade. Its a college class yall, gotta work for an A, its not given
lol lol lol do not listen to anyone that acts like criticism of this class and the professor is an over-exaggeration. this class was the worst constructed and taught course I have ever had in my entire academic career. do not waste your time and ruin your transcript with this professor if you can. best of luck to those enrolled
Shes rude and the worst professor ever. She doesnt teach but expects you to know it. Good luck teaching yourself!
Terrible experience in her class. I am ending with a B but she is not easy to communicate with and it feels as if she would prefer students to fail than pass. She expects students to drop everything and focus on this class only and even then its horrible.
Allison is a nice lady I'm sure, but a terrible teacher. Chem was a disappointment and I don't feel like I will retain any information. She does not help her students at all. :(
Took this class over the summer and I'm always skeptical of online science courses. Professor Soult is awesome and her modules and lectures are straightforward and easy to understand. I would definitely take her again.
Dr. Soult is by far the worst teacher I have ever had throughout my educational career. She DOES NOT CARE about her students. Soult has an average of FAILING after teaching this class since 2011. Her play posits are simple, easy to do. when it comes to class, she does not teach. YOU WILL TEACH YOURSELF. DO NOT take this class with Allison Soult.
Allison does not care about her students at all. she does not teach you YOU WILL TEACH YOURSELF. I would not recommend this class but if you have to take it be prepared its not a easy class. The achieves are not at all what the playposits talk about and the test are not easy at all. GOOD LUCK.
flipped classroom. she doesn't teach anything in class. you will do worksheets with your group for majority of the class (harder probs). the lecture videos are contradicted by her explanations in class. office hours don't really help, neither does sucking up. if you did okay with chem in high school you will be fine, those who didn't, good luck.
Most of the learning is done from videos you watch before class which can be helpful if you put in the effort to learn the information outside of class. Tests are fairly hard but if you study past exams and practice exams you should do fine. She's not as bad as some of the ratings would suggest. chemistry is just a hard class.
She is really bad and doesnt help much outside of class.
When your 2-hour final covers content that might have been covered once for 5 minutes at some random point in the semester and doesnt even almost resemble any of the 8 practice exams you posted on Canvas, it can only be assumed that you want your students to fail. Dont look so surprised. Grades are a reflection of teachers, not students:)
I loved having her as a professor. You can't blame the teacher because she is required to teach difficult material. You have to work hard to earn your grade. Taking notes on the playposit videos is very helpful. Group work makes going to class enjoyable. She gives her students the materials to pass, it's up to you to put the work in.
terrible teacher.
THIS IS THE WORST CLASS I'VE EVER TAKEN. She is not understanding or helpful WHATSOEVER. You must attend class, but it is a waste of time because you will only be doing group work. Even the TAs are confused with the material and dislike Soult for setting her students up to fail.
This class was awful. It is self-taught in a "backward classroom" format. You literally watch videos for credit outside of class, and in-class do a "review." Nothing is really explained. Also, you spend hours doing playposit's that are only worth 5% of your overall grade. This course needs to be changed because its horrible.
This class was very aggravating to take considering you teach yourself all of the content. She is not understanding whatsoever of any situation outside of class. You spend hours doing playposits (teaching yourself) and achieve assignments that are barely worth any of your grade. If you do poorly on 1 test your grade will suffer. Do not take her.
Don't take the reviews TOO seriously. Yes, the class does require >10 hours of homework a week which is frustrating given its only worth 5%. The backwards classroom where we teach ourselves does suck, BUT she handles it as best as she can. She responds to questions very fast (even if they aren't super friendly). I've had much worse than her.
SO much HOMEWORK. you spend HOURS doing hw and achieves but they aren't worth anything, only your exams are worth something. It's a reverse class so you teach yourself and do hw then do busy work in class. please do chem 105 and 107 instead. also if you decide to leave nursing, this class is useless !!
Insane amounts of homework almost every day and has no regard for the fact that students have other classes. Once asked for an extension due to a flare up of a chronic illness, with a doctors note, and she denied me. Wish I could tell you to avoid this professor but for nursing majors you really have no other option.
Make use of the resources Dr. Soult gives you such as end-of-the-chapter questions, practice exams, and khan academy. You will have to do a lot of learning on your own if you do not understand the concepts in her playposits. I am glad I took this course over the summer because she is more helpful when she does not have to teach 200-300 students.
Be prepared to teach yourself and not have time for literally anything else
This is by far the worst class I have ever taken. For nursing majors, it is required. BE READY TO TEACH YOURSELF and learn the material outside of class. Her grading is very tough and the exams are a VERY large percent of your grade. Play posits are there to "teach" the material, but they contradict what she says in class.
People made her out to seem a lot worse than she is. The class can be difficult and requires a lot of work outside of class, watching videos to teach yourself and homework assignments while in class is small group assignments. If you put in the work, getting a good grade is very achievable.
You teach yourself outside of class and in class she just barely goes over a few questions
prepare to cry.
Dr. Soult teaches a flipped classroom, with learning/notes as homework and practice in class. Must go to class to answer questions for credit/points. Hard to reach, and makes you reach her through a website to ask questions. Not very clear on explaining concepts when asking her in person about how to do something.
this was 3 years ago but i watched this woman tell a student whos father had passed away that "a death in the family is not an excuse to take a vacation from homework". thats all you need to know.
My high school teacher could have taught this 100x better than this professor. She doesnt explain things clearly at all. She grades videos which is how we learn.. through videos. She told a classmate that her goal was to have 50% of the class fail or dropout if this isnt setting a horrible example for the university for freshman idk what is.
You teach yourself outside of class through videos which count as a grade so good luck if you get questions wrongs. INSANE amount of homework with some days alone have as many as 13 assignments due. Attendance is mandatory but you don't actually learn in class. The exams will make or break your grade. no extra credit. contradicts herself 24/7
Soult has soiled my experience with the chemistry department. She is one of the heads of the chemistry department even though it is hard to fathom why she even has that job. She does not teach, she requires play-posits as homework but will contradict what she said on the play-posits the following day in lecture. One word to describe her: booty.
I barley made it half way with this class. If you have never taken a honors or dual credit class SIT THIS ONE OUT! she does not care if you have accommodations took me over a month to get mine approved. You'll have no social life as this class take up 99% of you time. She seems very nice but she is horrible to deal with. save your mental health!!!
So much HW HW HW HW HW. 24 assignments given every single day. But they are just worth 5%
don't take this class unless you are able teach yourself everything
You definitely have to teach yourself outside of the class but more importantly, you really need to be prepared for playposit, achieve and Iclicker. Those are all count toward as particpation grade but you really have to get most of the quesitons correct, if you get too many questions wrong, then you'll grade won't be stable. Be prepared. Good Luck
It's not too bad. It is okay. Just be aware of many assignments. It's okay to complete many assignments including playposit, achieve, but the thing is that the insane amount of assignments in this class can affect doing other classes assignment or project and keep missing other classes assignment due date.
Absolute worst.
Terrible Terrible Terrible
Achieves are annoying.
Worst class I have ever taken (and I took many dual credits in high school and have taken other UK classes as a freshman this year). You have to teach yourself everything as the only time she "teaches" is in her videos. The videos are very short and do not explain the concepts well. In class, she just has us do IClikers and group work. 0/10.
She really doesn't like to respond via email. Only thing she wants to respond is Piazza. So ask questions and reach her to piazza. One more, allison soult does not teach, just grades the video which is playposit and also grades achieve and Iclicker in class. I don't understand why she is professor and also chem director. Our mental is already gone.
This professor makes the assignment right BEFORE the EXAM. This is somehow very crazy. Imagine you study yourself outside of the class for 5 chapters, getting more CRAZY. But there is no option because chem is pre-requisite and if you don't take this class, you have to graduate late or take the chem class later one day even you don't take this now.
Just take the AP Chem and get AP credit... before coming to kentucky. Please Please Please do it. This is Way better. Save your time, Save your mental and also save your credit and grade in your transcript.
Attendance is mandatory because you are doing Iclicker every time in class. DO NOT miss Iclicker because this count towards your grade. Unless you have doctors appointment or something, you definitely have to go to the class. There is a Iclicker and group work in the class so missing class will impact a lot worse with your grade together with exam.
Dr. Soult is a very kind lady. She, however, does not teach Chemistry well. The way this class is set up makes it very difficult to get an A. I took a high school Chemistry class with twice as much material and got an A. There is so much homework, but tests make up your grade in this class. There are very few questions and no partial credit.
So this class is in person but every time I felt was that this class was meaningless, worthless. It's true because the instructor does not teach! The problem is that a truly "decent professor" means there to be to teach the students in the class, not outside of the class. Then why should we go to class? We can just take this class online instead ha
Iclicker is the only thing she does in the lecture. But the iclicker is just nothing. Here, the main point is NOT teaching outiside of the class but the difficulties to teach ourself outside of the class. Simply meaning if there is a video that student can't understand, it might be better to teach students in lecture instead of outside of the cr.
The entire reason I might not be able to become a nurse is because of this professor. Expects you to learn new material through videos and then come in and know exactly how to do it. Each exam has almost 2 months of complicated learning and topics. Honestly the worst teacher I have ever had.
Worst experience in my life to take this course. I saw that there are so many people not attending to class. Actually this class is mandatory because of the iclicker. But for real, I don't want to go to this class at 9am. I don't know why I always have to go chemistry class. I don't learn anything. I always don't know what I'm doing in this class
Not expected what my final grade is going to be. Just feel very nervous. I'm tired. Just hope my grade goes up or maintain so I can safely get into nursing school. Especially the only reason I come to university of kentucky is to study nursing but the university made me very disappointed. Take away my scholarship and always meet worst instructors.
It was fine for me when I wasn't get in the deans list at the college of nursing. I wasn't that smart like other students and I was just normal student. I just tried my best and did my effort. But many things are making me so stressed and tired. Actually this is my last year studying pre-nursing at uky. At least I want my grade up It is imp for me.
I personally think the instructor has to be changed at some point. One professor teaching same couse for many year isn't that great. And especially allison soult doesn't teach well. Assignments (Playposits and Achieves) are very contradict and opposite to the lecture which people always do iclicker in class. She is not a true professor.
Only 1 month left for final but I'm just not surprised with my grade that I recently got. One thing I want to say is this. If I can't get into the nursing school, this course is going to be the main reason. Well, there are some several other courses that I don't like that much but this course is one of the worst course I've ever taken at uky.
With the way this class is set up, you are expected to teach yourself. With multiple plays postist a day and a lot of HW due every week. tests are a majority of your grade and they are very difficult. it's a weed-out class. take it the fall semester so if you fail you are able to retake the same year and apply for nursing school.
You are required to teach yourself. All she does in class is iClicker. Your workload outside of the class is extremely heavy. She is not a good teacher at all
This professor uses a reverse classroom method of teaching which requires a large amount of time needed to complete the lectures on your own time outside of class. There are so many homework assignments, but they do not affect your grade at all, and the exams pretty much determine how successful you will be in the class.
Class content isn't that much difficult but what makes more difficult is the professor.
I sometimes don't understand why Achieves assignment name is achieve. Especially we can't achieve the achieve assignments in the class. Awful Achieve. And also, is this class gen chem? org chem? or mixed class? Oh my god....
Wish I could take this class in summer if I had a chance but I can't actually retake this course again because my case is unique and I can't directly go to nursing school right away after I finish this semester. I have some problmes I unfortunately have to leave of absence for 2 years and then rejoin my nursing school so for me, it is important.
Even they have experience in chemistry, this class is extremely hard to be success. People tried to do their best and also helped themselves. Even they still pay attention and work hard, it is NOT fine. Not a good class. Understanding is limitation in this class. Thinking oneself and act as selfish isn't great for other people to see this review.
Problems of this course is the 75% of exam percentage with the remain 25% of the participation but this 25% of small participation is difficult to reach out to get a full grade meaning, there is a iclikcer, playposit which is a video and achieve for macmilian learning but those are still deducting the points which is awful. That's the real reason.
Course content is hmm... just fine and okay and it probably?might be little helpful for nursing before enetering bsn program, however the ways we learn in this class and the course grade percentage is awful.
If you're a nursing student taking this class, I'm sorry. She is very condescending and will make you feel dumb for asking anything. You will be focusing majority of your time on this class and will probably still get a crappy grade.
Well sometimes, giving up is okay. Not always but sometimes.
Nice Teacher. Her lectures are flipped so you do the lecture outside of class. I would recommend to TAKE NOTES it helps a lot. She was there to answers questions in class when you needed. If you just do your work, pay attention to lectures, and show up to class you will do completely fine! She gives lots of credit for participation also.
She doesn't teach or know chemistry well.
The only justification I can think of for Dr. Soult's low rating is that most of her students are freshman who expect good grades to be handed to them. Yes - it's a hard class. It's chemistry. Office hours are very, very helpful. Show up, do the work, study throughout the semester. If you think that's too much, you're in for a real treat later on.
Office hours does helpful but it is very difficult to schedule the time. It is very hard to scheduling the office hours because some office hours does overlap with other class schedules so even if the office hours might be helpful, it is still difficult to go to office hours and ask some questions. Everyone has different time management. So..
very nice person but not very good at teaching. You basically have to teach yourself all the material. your grade really only depends on exams. So much homework but doing it doesn't really effect you're grade. I do not recommend taking this.
The only justification I can think of for Dr. Soult's low rating is that most of her students are freshman who expect good grades to be handed to them. ? What..? NO.. there are many sophomores too.. in her classroom.
Chemistry is a hard subject. The problem is that she uses a flipped to teach class which confuses students because the videos are used for us to learn content and all that happens is class is iClicker/group work. Students paid to have the class taught in person, NOT online. Also 75% of your grade is tests (This makes the outside work useless)
1. Condesending and Rude 2. Disrespectful and >DOESN'T FOLLOW SCHOOL POLICY!!! 3. Unwilling to help students who are struggling 4. Don't even bother emailing her, won't respond 5. Doesn't even teach during lecture, must teach yourself. 6. RIDICLIOUS HOMEWORK RESPONSIBILITIES. 7. Teaches "by the book" will send you out of the class if you argue!
Wants you to fail chemistry. Does not want you to succeed. No sort of empathy for anyone taking chemistry. Not very nice.
Professor didn't teach a lot, she assumed students knew what she was teaching and didn't go over the basics of the unit, and uses iclicker in class as a grade, so I found myself looking up answers in class and not actually learning it because you need to get a good participation grade. You have to teach yourself basically everything.
Was the reason I dropped out of school this semester.
Very hard class don't understand much of any of it
Soult is not approachable outside of class, even with her office hours. she's condescending and her lecturing style isn't helpful, for me at least. she will also assign homework that's due at 8:50am the next morning on the night of an exam. she doesn't seem to empathize with students and she doesn't except late work.
I thought she was great. She explains things clearly and is always willing to help. She was extremely friendly and had a good attitude the entire semester. Yes, you have to do work outside the class. Welcome to college. It's not realistic for her to cover everything. Just attend lecture and use all the recourses to study (especially the textbook).
Hard class but it's to be expected. Good professor but you need to make sure you pay attention to lectures. Stay on top of work.
Rude/uptight on most anything involving her class. Tries to be funny and connect with students but I feel as if it just annoys us. No extra credit or make up work. Only positive is how she grades the final exam. 4 parts each corresponding to the first 3 exams and the final material covered. Do better on a certain part and replace old exam grade.
I thought she was pretty nice. Chemistry is hard, obviously, but she explains things in a way that is easy to understand. She is very open to any questions that you have, in class and over email. As long as you attend lectures and do the homework, you'll be fine.
She teaches at 1000 mph and she throws a lot of work and information at you at one time. It's easy to fall behind in this class therefore I wish she could find a new teaching strategy.
