Great teacher. First exam is tough.
Organized, helpful, and a very nice woman.
Very nice to look at.

She is a very hard teacher. Boring class. You have to pay attention.
Interesting but get boring. Need to attend class to get good grades.
She is easy on the eyes and a great teacher.
She's cute
go to class, pay some attention, don't buy book, interesting course.
DO buy book, keep up and you'll do fine

willing to help you if you don't understand. go to class and take notes. easy.
Very nice women, must attend class to get good grades. Drops one test.
go to class for a good grade, helpful when you go to her
has a combination of funny accents, makes it difficult to listen to.... go to class, and you'll probably do fine!
Lotssss to memorize so go to lectures. Start studying for tests early. Don't talk in class, she'll pinpoint you even if you weren't the one talking! Go see her if you are struggling she'll help you out. Read the book material it WILL be on tests.
Interesting art class, very nice teacher, dont talk in class! she'll pin point you. Tests are just memorizing facts like dates/titles etc. not hard if you study. 1 paper. 1 essay, not hard. Dont buy book, you really dont need it-just go to class.
class is easy... just know your slides and the history of them. study what she tells you to and the tests are a piece of cake
her test a easy but you have to take good notes directly from lectures. She doesn't write much on the board, and she talks very fast.
though lectures can be hard to sit through at times, class is interesting. i enjoyed it. tests are alright, easier to study for if you go to the lectures. grades easily on the essay (only 3 pages) to insure a good grade probably should read book
lectures are boring learned nothing
Super easy art history class but the microphone will drive you crazy! She says you need to read the book but really she says all you need to know in lecture. Hard to pay attention unless you REALLY like analyzing works of art.
Essays aren't that bad as long as you do the readings and have a good idea what they're about. She's very nice, pleasant, clear in lectures; there aren't any surprises or tricks in exams as long as you take good notes & do the readings.
she's a good teacher although the lectures are REALLY boring. good luck staying awake. either pay close attention to the lecture or do the readings and you'll get at least a B. 1 easy paper, 3 midterms (drop the lowest grade), and a final.
boring class. she makes you feel stupid when you go to office hours
Nice lady but lectures are boring. It's not hard but you have to know the slides well to do good on the test. Don't really need the book if you pay attention in class. Three tests, drops the lowest, one paper, and one final
Go to class, pay attention or read the book and this will be an easy class. Do the outside readings because you will have to write essays on them, but very easy essays. one paper, 2 midterms and a final.
you'll learn interesting stuff about the paintings but i had the class at 8 a.m. and it was like pulling teeth
Be prepared to study like it's a grad class. lots of slides and outside readings. interesting lectures, but a lot of work.
Really good professor, her lectures are not boring, but interesting, you will learn a lot, just pay attention and take good notes.
Boring lady who beats around the bush. Brags about grad school europe trips. Annoying whining voice...couldn't stay wake. Says one thing and then changes her mind especially when it comes to dropping the final as the lowest test score.
Class sucks. Its really boring and the tests are on slides. There's four tests and she drops the lowest score. There's one paper but its not too bad. The tests are hard cause u need to know details from the slides.
nice teacher. prepare to study like crazy. a lot of slides you have to remember. this is not an easy A class. 4 exams, 1 paper. she drops the lowest exam. you think it'll be easy but her exams are pretty detailed. you have to read and go to lectures.
I can't believe she made such a interesting class so boring. Where's Mrs. Woods? now she's a fun teacher without a whining voice. I'm just glad I passed her class. Don't get me wrong, it's easy if you study.
Great teacher but not a memorable personality. Easy to fall asleep in 8 AM class. She made the class ridiculously easy. Go to all lectures and read excerpts from book regarding just the slides from class and you will do well. requires a lot of memorization for each slide.
i love this class. the teacher rocks! It's a lot to memorize but if you follow along and don't miss any class you should be fine
Very easy class if you do keep up with the readings. Gives out good study guide and gives list of the essay questions on each test and picks two for the actual test, so as long as you write those in advance your golden.
take good notes and study if you want to get an A. book isn't necessary if you go to all the lectures. williams is nice enough, but can get a little over dramatic when she catches someone talking while she's lecturing. the good thing about this class is that you know all the work you're going to have to do beforehand. there are no surprises.
she's pretty boring but you don't have to buy the book if you go to lectures. That's good
Terrible professor. class requires constant memorization of tons of art. She is full of herself.
I would have appreciated more of a social-historical approach to the subject matter with less emphasis on formal elements. Other than that, I enjoyed the class. I never want to see another madonna and child again.
Tends to go off-topic at times, but other than that, she knows quite a lot on art history. Take notes at lectures and read the book (there's info there that's not mentioned in lecture that will be on exams). Recommended for morning people (class time is usually at 8:00 AM).
so hard to remember everything that she throws at you. she goes really fast and doesn't necessarily explain everything as she should. the book is a necessity if you want to do remotly good in her class.
Fairly decent class. Take notes!! Books are very helpfull for essay part and cramming, but most everything on tests come from her mouth. Doesnt take roll but you'll screw yourself if you miss too much. Term paper is 6 pages for undergrad, and 15 for grad. Anal about talking during lecture. Final is really LONG and drawn out. Study!!
she is really boring but the class is really easy! if you go to lecture and take good notes you will get an A (without ever opening the book). you get to drop a test score which is nice and can really help your grade out. One museum paper is required and its a little harder...but its still a good, informational, and easy introductory course
This professor should be formally reviewed by the University. She is rude and extremely unhelpful to students. Commonly misinterprets student's questions and ends up yelling at them. Oh yes, CONSTANT EXCUSES!!!! She never has assignments back on time and more than 75% of her lectures are thrown together overnight, and it shows.
I took 575 last semester and thought she was a pretty cool teacher. Her tests are easy (mtlpe choice) + one 6 pg paper. She is very smart and knows a lot about the pieces, which is nice. I didn't really like this time period though, so the art was not interesting to me.
very easy listening, not boring at all. Extremely interesting class with fairly easy exams
The class is really interesting, even if you aren't an art major. Although, I feel like she interprets paintings in her own way and that is how she expects us to think. The class is really easy, no need for the book, just go to class and study your notes and thats all you need.
she is so knowledgable about the topic, her lectures are very interesting. just take notes. the research paper wasnt bad, just start working on it early or else all the books in the library will be gone the night before its due. great class!
Art was a boring subject to me, until I took this class to fulfill the GE req. Dr. Williams is an excellent teacher and really knows her art! Very interesting and she is a bit liniant on the tests since there is no essays just 3 multiple question tests and a final since its a big lecture class. If you havent taken a lecture class this is the one!
Very smart lady. I really respect her and enjoy her lectures. I especially like that she is very down to earth, whereas some teachers can be very impersonal (especially when they are phD status). I would recommend her to anyone.
Awesome professor !!! I am not an art major and her classes make you feel like you are. Very clear, lectures are not boring and she knows her stuff. She loves art and don't expect anything less. I took both her art 259 and the art 575 and did well in both. She is helpful and wants to see students do well. Take this class for GE or for a major !!
the real review is this: she's unprepared with slides, she's full of herself, she doesnt stick to the slidelist provided and jumps all over the place, & her heavy accent is incomprehensible at times. tests are always hard no matter how hard you study. for most students its mandatory to take this class, so god help us
WATCH OUT! I loved my art 258 class, but 259 was a total disappointment. I know more about her personal life than renn. artwork. The short of it: she is mean, unprepared, annoying, and opinionated. Don't bother going to class. It's almost ALL in the book. If you go, bring a pillow. I slept though almost every class and got a B+.
I took Dr. Williams for Norther Renaissance Art. It's a great class if you're interested in the subject. She's always helpful and willing to clarify. Exams are easy if you really pay attention in class and take good notes.
I took her ART259 which I totally loved, and continued to take her ART573 and I got A in both. I know her 200 classes are very early, but you've gotta attend her class! Her interest shows really well in ART573 class, and it was really fun to get to know the stories behind each art. Tests are based on lecture, which is why attendance is mandatory.
truthfully. SHES HARD! everythings about online readings and posts and book readings. Her lecture almost has nothing to do with her tests. you need to prepare essays in your head before EVERY exam. and you need to memorize 2 full essays for the FINAL. Avoid at ALL costs if possible.
Dr. Williams seems to come off as a strict teacher, but she actually is really helpful and nice. Her tests are definitely hard, and require a lot of studying and memorization. I took Art 258 along with this course and felt that it was a lot easier, especially the tests. Although, her essay assignment was easy. Overall definitely a challenging class
Dr. Williams is very nice and helpful. She is very enthusiastic about art history and it shows. Her tests aren't too difficult as long as you study. It requires a lot of memorization. There are four tests, she drops the lowest score, and one gallery paper. You will earn the grade you deserve if you put in the work and effort.
I like her and feel she is very knowledgeable in the subject of art. I did think that her ART573b class was really hard! I also believe her tests are way harder than they need to be, a lot harder for me than her European art history course. Williams is a very nice woman and I feel she explains things really well it's just her tests are dizzing!!
Dont take her if you can help it. She is extremely disorganized. She rambles on and on about information she says will not be on the exam. Contradicts herself. Boring. Try if you can to save yourself!
She is one of the most helpful professors I have ever met. Very very helpful!!
very very very nice and helpful. When I was confused she explained it real nicely. Make sure after each lecture you make flash cards regarding what was taught. I prolly end up with an A. Book is helpful in clarifying everything. She drops lowest test score, and final is mandatory and a simple 3-4 page paper is due.
I had a hard time keeping awake in this class. Pass this class only by reading the book and friends' note cards.
Pretty chill class, only 3 tests and a 3 page paper final. Don't really have to attend class, but it helps. Recommend this class to anyone, should be an easy B if you study a bit before each midterm.
Class was way too early for me but nonetheless, i attended everyday and through lecture alone, the class is VERY easy. never bought the text and did well without. only 3 tests and a rather easy essay. interesting class if you enjoy art!
Williams is a pretty good instructor. You will do well as long as you study. All you need is to study off of flash cards and you will get a B at least. Her lectures are to the point and are informative.
Loved her! Kept me awake even at 8 in the morning. Pretty easy class. Attendance not at all mandatory. 3 exams (lowest grade dropped), 1 final, and 1 gallery report essay. Very nice and helpful, always available for office hours. Quick grader! Great choice for a GE class!
Class was alright, i mean of course it was boring, its art history. 2 exams and one essay. just study the slides for a bit and you can pull off a high B. She was really helpful when i went into her office hours so she could look at my term paper, before turning it in. I would try and avoide the class because its boring but it's not unbearable.
very helpful & understanding. She let me turn in the museum paper the day before the final because of some things I was going through. At times class dragged on but for the majority it was interesting to learn about.1 paper,2 MC tests (memorize the slide lists!), and some small online assignments (EASY). would def. recommend, and book not necessary.
very helpful professor, shes great one on one and always seemed to let people know she was willing to coming in on days that weren't on her normal office hour schedule. I had very litlle interest in this class coming into it but now Im really glad I did. Art History is really fascinating!
Was not interested in art history but somehow the slides she went over where interesting. I fell asleep a majority of the time. One museum paper if you want a better grade she lets you redue it. Recommend the class just memorize the slide list!
Print out the slide lists and take notes on what she says in class, and then do the online hw. Study those 2 things and your almost guaranteed a A-,B+. Theres 3 tests and 1 museum paper, really easy stuff.
If you go to class, listen to online lectures, take decent notes and skim the book you will get an A. There are 3 tests. the final only has 5 more questions than the midterms. You write one essay that is NOT a research a paper, and therefore very easy, and also short. online quizzes are easy, you get 2 tries and it takes your highest score.
Don't buy the textbook. If you go to class and pay attention, and study the slide list you'll be golden. There is one essay but she's an easy grader. I got a B in the class which is pretty average I think. An A would be possible if you study hard.
Do NOT buy the textbook, biggest waste of money ever. 3 tests and a paper, if you go to class it will be a lot easier to do well, however she doesn't require attendance. The class was interesting, but you needed to study a lot for the tests, cause it is straight memorization of titles/artists/ect. Flashcards are the way to go with this class.
You were only allowed to miss three classes and then your grade started to drop. She's pretty easy, but sometimes you do the assignment exactly as she says and you still don't get a great grade. The assignments are time consuming but there aren't very many of them.
I do NOT care for Alyson. She is very unclear, goes off on unrelated tangents and ART296 is completely irrelevant and useless. For art history, use the book, and make flash cards for the final. Online Assignments AKA QUIZZES are extremely easy. Overall the classes are easy, she's just not a very good teacher
She's a very interesting teacher! She has a european background and passion for art history! Take her class if you are really interested in Art!
This class was easy. If you can, pay attention during her lectures because a few of her lecture points show up on the exams. Only gripe I have are her exam essays. She crams way too much in them. Don't worry about pulling all the separate art pieces into a cohesive essay. Treat it more like a short answer portion, she just checks for key words.
not the best teacher she is very self absorbed. Her online lectures and reviews are a waste of time. I didn't really learn anything from her the book taught me more. Easy A just memorizing the artists paintings and names for test.
She has online tests which are mildly annoying because she doesn't list the dates in the syllabus, but you get 2 chances to take them, so it's easy to get an A on them. There's one Essay which is super easy. Her lectures are a waste of time though, I only went to a few classes and I'm getting an A. Her tests aren't very hard either.
Pretty easy class if you're willing to put in some work. Tests are strait forward and easy to pass, but not easy to ace. A lot of fact recall on tests. Weekly online tests make up a majority of your grade, and those are easy to get 100% because you can take them twice and she gives study guides. Overall simple class.
Very easy course. But be prepared to do a lot of reading and sitting through her online lectures. Her tests were easy (if you've done what I mentioned above). She's an easy grader on her essays as well.
She loves to talk and the lectures were hard to sit through. Her tests are rough too, because she talks so much there isn't clarity of what is going to be on them so you have to know a ridiculous amount of work. Upside-little homework. One museum paper. Easy if you really study for the exams.
I took the hybrid version of art history. It was my first time with an online class. Take good notes and you'll be fine with the tests. There were a lot of assignments from short quizes online to a museum visit with a paper. The good thing is the quizes can be retaken and you can always get 100% the second time around pretty much.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT AN EASY A WITH LITTLE EFFORT. I took it expecting little work because of the other rates I read on this website, but NO. You can definitely easily pass the SEVERAL online quizzes, and effortlessly do the two papers she assigns- BUT THE TESTS ARE MEMORIZATION. You need to memorize the whole entire study guide.
I've taken 2 other history classes with her and to be honest i dislike her assigned readings, they're boring and long and for this specific class there is an assignment due every class for a reading, or multiple ones (no tests for this course) but i still wish there were more of the mandatory history courses with other professors in the mornings.
Art history is a pretty boring subject all around in my opinion but Allyson made it moderately interesting. Only one museum paper and the class is basically memorization, so be sure to print the slide list.
Dr. Williams is friendly & knowledgable - an expert in her field. Just make sure you take thorough notes and make notecards your best friend. Her tests are difficult because she expects you to know everything about everything. She appreciates participation. She WILL call out people talking in her class. Paper is super easy. Try to learn something
She's ALL over the place in her teaching style but if you just study and memorize the pieces and required info a couple of days before the test it's easy enough. The class has potential to be interesting but she kinda ruins it. Online tests that you can take twice and get 100% on every time. Not the best teacher but not too tough of a class.
There is a LOT of reading in this class. It's almost completely readings, summaries and class discussion. No tests, one 6-8p paper that will be presented to the class. Almost all the reading is from blackboard. It will take up your time. It is necessary to do it. Participate and show up. I was terrified of this class, but it ended up a favorite.
I really liked prof Williams. She gives these online quizzes but you have two tries and the questions are identical so if you fail the first one just write the correct answers down and you'll ace the second one. Material was interesting, i didn't open the book once and got an A. This class is almost too easy.
was looking forward to this course and was very disappointed in how the teacher taught the course. Took it to fulfill an upper-division GE and Allyson took the course way too serious. Required students to download a lockdown browser and webcam students while taking tests so they didn't use their notes/book during the test.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She comes off as a sweet lady but she's the devil. She takes this class, supposedly a Humanities class (for you to learn something new) and she wants it to make you an art major. She grades her essays as if you were getting a PHD in art. The online model sucks and she is super uptight about everything. TERRIBLE!
I took this class to fulfill a lower div GE, but she expected you as a student to be an art. Her exams were not as fair because You wouldn't know what to really expect, she can go down to literally the tiniest details or the broadest. She isn't helpful either, and such a hard grader especially with the papers. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
She is hands down one of the worst professors I've ever had. For a intro to art history class, this course was extremely hard. She forces you to use a webcam to take her exams, which are really hard. She is a tough grader and unsympathetic. If you can take anybody else, avoid her at all costs. Really rude too!
Tests were pretty challenging, if you dont make it to class or zone out for a bit you might miss something important
DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS. She's the worst. Makes you use a lockdown browser and webcam. Her quizzes contain questions that she hardly goes over, you have to be incredibly attentive to detail to get them right. If your internet goes out during an exam, she won't reopen it for you.
Heavy lectures and monotone voice. Multiple choice and essays, and you gotta visit 1 art museum and do a paper on it. If you're trying to fulfill your humanities elective, don't take this one.
This professor, is great person, all you have to is homework and pay attention to her quizzes try not to miss any one. I really admire this person, her class was fun, and have learned a lot. I regret that I put a bad comment about this person. I really want to take it back. My apology!!! If you do properly there is an easy A or B waiting for you
Dr Williams. excellent person, respectful. She gives online quizzes, all you need is a flashcards, and watch her video lectures. You don't need a textbook. The class Was fun and it has interesting material. Very easy class, easy A. Only one project required to visit Meseum or so to boost up your credit. I am looking forward to take another class.
Loved her! really made me want to learn more about art history
Lectures weren't interactive really at all. I took the hybrid course and she was on top of her online lectures through zoom. It was just a lot of information and a lot of memorizing on things I didn't really see matter unless you're striving to be an art history major, or history major. She knows her stuff and is very educated on art history.
This is class is a lot of work compared to all other art history classes. She requires you to have perfect writing as if it is an English class. The things that are required of you are; 6 journals, 6-7pg essay, 3 exams. Exams require you to memorize the artist, title of painting, date and facts and to answer a essay prompt within an hour.
The reading for journals can be around 30 pages or more. There is tons of writing within this class. I do not recommend as she knows people have work from other classes but yet still expects us to memorize every single thing in the same way she suffered through her college years.
Professor is very passionate, but acts like her students are majoring in History. Lecture heavy do not miss class. 3 exams, 4 Blackboard discussions and 1 museum paper. I would reconsider taking this class as a GE, will have to stay focused all semester long to get a passing grade.
This class is graded mostly off of 2 tests, the final, and paper where you visually analyze a museum piece. Her lectures are rather interesting but for the tests she mostly wants you to recite the title of a piece, the artist, the year, and sometimes the artistic movement it belongs to. Rarely do those fun facts from the lecture show up on tests
interesting if you enjoy art! the only thing is that it involves a TON of memorization. for all 3 exams you are expected to know every detail about 40+ pieces of art including the date it was created, who it was created by, the art movement it was part of, where it was made, etc. so this was definitely annoying. quiz answers are on quizlet!
She is sweet and approachable, but she goes through the content of the course incredibly fast and it was so hard to keep up with typing notes. Her tests refer to very specific things she said during lecture, so you have to show up. 6 homework assignments, 1 6-page research essay. Regardless, I still enjoyed looking at all of the gorgeous art.
Took her for 557. She isnt leanient at all and grades tough. She thinks everyone there is studying to be an art historian. And her tests are difficult even if you study hard. I tried my best and got a D+ in the course because she didnt wanna bump me up 1.5 points for a 70. She needs to realize most students taking this class are graphic designers
She's very sweet, but her lectures get stale after a while, sadly. Her tests aren't too bad but they do require some preparation beforehand if you want to pass.
Respectful, understanding, and very knowledgeable. However, I could see how her teaching style may not be everyone's cup of tea. Lectures are fast-paced, and it can be hard sometimes to discern tangents from information that you will actually be tested on. It takes time, but look up each piece on the reduced slide lists individually to succeed.
Her lectures are boring and long, she is VERY DISORGANIZED. She thinks everyone in the class wants to be an art historian, and most of us are taking her class because its a requirement. I pass her class but I really needed to work hard, just do not take her "she is the worst".
She is a well of knowledge and you can honestly learn so much from her! Pay attention to her details during lectures. She gives cool nuggets of information, she usually tests on those facets of information. The textbook saved me, which I know is hard because they are most of the time expensive. you can't miss much she records lectures!
This is a pretty standard art history class, with tests consisting of multiple choice slide IDs, questions about the artists and the artwork, and an essay question. There are a few easy journal assignments and a research paper due at the end of the semester. The lectures can get a little boring, but overall an okay class and a good professor.
I wouldnt recommend Professor Williams if you dont need to take the class. This class is for a student who really like and enjoy the art history. The test is heavy for me, more than 20 multiple choices questions and 2 short essays (thiss the part took time). One museum paper, and some discussions (will effect ur grade as well.) Read books!!!!
Straightforward lectures with good test review and study guide before exams. Graded on open note exams, a couple journals regarding readings, and one longer research paper at the end of the semester. Class is easy to follow if you're trying and paying attention. Passionate professor, no surprises and learned a lot. Recommend if you enjoy art.
Lectures are what you'd expect, does test reviews & provides study guides before open-note exams. Take DETAILED notes and look through textbook for exam answers, a GroupMe also helps to share notes lmao. 3 midterms but drops low score, 5 journals based on readings, 3-4 pg research paper, 1 final exam. Pretty easy overall to fulfill art history req.
I love Dr. Williams. I thought it was an easy class because most of her test questions are on lectures. As long as you watch the lectures and take notes you can do fairly well on the tests. One museum paper. 3 midterms, lowest dropped, plus the final. She's super nice. I think the people that don't do well as those who aren't interested in art hist
Dr. Williams was the best professor I've had through this whole covid / online learning situation. The assignments were clear, her lectures were interesting, and the tests were straightforward. She is super knowledgeable and goes out of her way to help students. Easy A.
I took Prof Williams as a remote learning class last semester. She's awesome! There is a lot of material to know, but taking it online was easy. Her lectures are really interesting and fun if you enjoy art. Keeping up with the lecture is essential to passing and understanding material. 10/10 would take her class again.
Professor Williams is a sweet professor. I like how enthusiastic she is about art, and I can tell she really likes teaching us. I do have to say that her lecture videos do get a little boring and it's hard to keep up because there's no text. Only images and loads of explanations. Gotta really be into it if you wanna pass.
Dr. Williams is a good professor but her class requires heavy work. Lots of reading. You cannot rest a day. Read and watch long videos. Hardest class ive ever taken. If youre taking this class, dont take more than 2 more courses.
As long as you follow the syllabus and took notes on *all* the material, you'll do just fine on the quizzes. One thing to note is that the material is sporadic. For example, you won't find all the information you need in just the lectures, so you have to do readings in order to score well on the quizzes.
I took Fall 2019. Easy enough. I breezed by with low effort and cramming. I wish I'd tried a smidge harder to get the full A. Her lectures were kinda boring, but they were recorded and posted online so I would just skip class and watch at 1.5x. This would be even easier if you practice daily study habits like using anki on each new painting.
Covid era - Prof Williams knows A LOT about euro art and that's great! Her lectures are rich in knowledge and very vivid. She really does paint a picture of life in the ye old days - but that means you HAVE to take good notes and lots of them. If you do, you can get away a smidge without reading the textbook so heavily. Attending class is vital!
Lots of homework, readings, and assignments. Tough grader.
Very annoying class, and I'm a big art history person. Her lectures are confusing, you'll jump from Ancient China, to France to Hindu Temples in the same lecture. Probably 10 hours of videos and 15 hours of reading every module just to have the quiz be completely random questions not mentioned before. Lectures are prerecorded so quality is bad.
She makes you work hard for your grade. Weekly quizzes, 3 midterms, final, and 1 essay worth 25% of grade. Her lectures can be confusing, she jumps to different works of art and doesn't explain herself clearly. During exams she shows an artwork on the screen and you have to answer questions quickly before she changes the slide. Long lecture videos.
ONLY do online for easy grade. does provide heavy amounts of pre-recorded lectures & readings, but tbh don't read/watch them bc she does a live study guide the day before a quiz (recorded, I watched on 2x speed & took notes) & that summarizes everything. have to use lockdown browser but no camera. 4 dis. boards & 1 museum paper. def passable!
there IS a textbook that u rent/pay for (like $30-40), which sadly I bought but tbh I didn't even use it so save yourself some bucks. all in all, if u just want the credit it's an alright class, could even get an A doing less work than she expects but I took it CR/NC anyway (pre-approved w the art dept so it counts as an elective). good luck!!
Honestly, her class was so dull. I had to take this class for my major, and it was not super hard. I read a ton, but overall she was okay. I've emailed her a few times, and she was pretty rude to me for no reason. Her class is boring, but I passed, so if you are going to take it, do your homework, and you should be golden.
She doesn't take attendance and posts lectures online. For the journals make sure to make time to read them bc they can be heavy and convoluted. She allows 2 pages of notes for tests, WRITE GOOD ORGANIZED NOTES. For the essay, your writing style or typos won't count much but she cares about research and the points you present.
Professor Williams is very passionate about teaching art history. However, the lectures are so long and it's a lot of information to remember. I didn't do too good with the exams. The professor gave me the wrong score on my first exam, and it was a long process for her to change my grade. Make sure you're assertive when talking to her. Good luck.
No homework other than 1 museum/analysis paper and weekly quizzes that have the answers online usually. 2 tests and a final that all get 2 pages of notes front and back. Write down everything you can during lecture. If you want the best grade possible you have to read the textbook (provided), as some test Qs come from there.
The lectures are extremely boring and sound monotone. Exams are confusing due to her moving too fast through the powerpoints, making it hard to see for the people in the back. Only grades discussions and exams. Also passes around an attendance sheet once in a while at the end of class.
There is no other Professor teaching this course. She is rude, condescending, dismissive, and inconsistent with her grading. Her demeanor and actions contrast extremely prior to and after the student drop deadline. She is resistant to change. A new Professor with an updated course curriculum and point of view would increase course comprehension.
There are not any other Professors who teach this course. Encourages the student to meet with her and email, but then she's demeaning, condescending, and dismissive. Course and topics are not interesting, diverse, or inclusive. Uses the same course lectures from past years; needs modernizing. The worst educational experience, but no other options!
Don't know why she has such high ratings. Super unreasonable when it comes to students memorizing content for exams. Also passive aggressive, I never want to talk to her because of it. Doesn't understand that it's a prerequisite for many students she acts like this is the only course we have. What's worse is she's the only prof for this course.
Save yourself the stress and annoyance by taking Art259 at a community college. This professor is extremely unreasonable. She expects you to memorize an insane amount of information for exams. To her, it's normal that the class average is a D. Not only is she unreasonable, she is rude and passive-aggressive as well. RUN WHILE U CAN.
I absolutely despised this professor. I work with student disability services regarding attendance and test taking, and she made it so incredibly difficult for me to take exams in her class. There's so much studying involved just to get a C on her exams because of the course load. For example, I would study for 12+ hours and I got a D on her exam:)
Lectures are fast-paced and all over the place. Exams are long and entirely memorization-based, not permitted to use note sheets despite students in previous semesters being allowed one. Class average on exams is a C or D which is absolutely not normal. Very excessive workload for a class most people are taking to satisfy a gen ed requirement.
Avoid this class at all costs. The lectures are extremely fast and there is way too much information on the exams. She has allowed her previous classes a page of notes on the exams, but decided to not let us use any notes whatsoever. She is passive aggressive and unhelpful.
Avoid this class!! Your grade only depends on three tests that are impossible to study for. After spending 10+ hours studying I failed both tests.
She no longer allows notes be used during exams, explaining the decline in her score on here. There are 3 exams in the class where you have to memorize 40-50 artworks including name, artists, general idea of when it was made, art movement, and other random facts she sometimes includes. Also tough grader on museum analysis paper.
Very difficult class. You are not allowed to use any notes for exams, lots of memorization. The content she is teaching is actually so interesting, but she makes the exams and assignments very hard. If you are a busy student I would avoid taking this professor.
horrible, worst professor I have had at state. take it at a community college instead because she was so rude and unhelpful. does not respect her students.
She gives us a list of how to respond to her reading reflections and when we follow each point of what is important to us she still gives a bad grade as says we should have talked about other things even though she specifically says things that are important to you, who is she to tell us what we thought was important from the reading?. Boring class
Your graded on 5 writing reflections and 3 tests. Hardest part about this class was the tests, I studied pretty well but would still get 70%. I would say that the reading reflections are easy if you read them but be warned they are LENGTHY! If you are a busy student don't recommend. The teacher was accommodating tbh pretty nice, just expects a lot!
I do not recommend as an intro to Art History class, you will spend hours studying dates and names for her difficult tests that everybody does bad on. Also very long boring lectures just don't do it.
Would not recommend Her lectures are very heavy and requires you to memorize a lot of information. She does not give study guides, and it doesn't help either that her class is mostly comprised of 3 exams and a paper. She actually encouraged us to drop the class if we did not do well on the first exam, as she believed we would not succeed.
She makes me want to rethink my major. Her lectures are long, boring, and heavy. She goes too fast between powerpoints and does not talk about specific points that are on the tests. Highly don't recommend taking her class.
Art History as a topic requires a lot of memorization and studying. She presented all the information in interesting ways, and is so sweet! I absolutely loved her class and loved her passion for art history. Definitely would be a hard class if you don't already have interest in art history. Take lots of notes! Kind, caring, great lectures!
I wasn't expecting to enjoy this class but I did. You can tell the professor loves what she does and it makes her lectures very interesting. The lectures can feel a bit unorganized sometimes, but not too bad. You are graded on 1 five page paper, a few journal responses, and three tests. The tests can be intense but you get one page of notes.
The lectures are extremely disorganized and very long with random tangents. You are given adequate time to take all of your notes, however it is about five hours of note taking before every quiz. For an online class, it is a lot of work including going to a museum in person meaning you must have transportation. However, she is passionate about art.
Dr Williams knows what she is talking about. However, during the lectures she overloads the students with information and makes it harder to remember everything. Get ready to read. She is a hard grader and has high expectations. If she would simplify her slides, it would be easier to remember the material.
Professor Williams is understandable if you have any issues the whole semester, its a heavily quiz-based class, and her lectures are a little hard to follow, but if you do the online assignments she posts for every quiz, it is easier to understand the subject. She rambles about her personal life sometimes and she is funny though.
Really enjoyed her lectures that engage you in the material you are talking about. It is a lot of reading, but not bad and there are (mostly) weekly quizzes on the material. The midterms cover a good chunk of the pieces discussed in class and does require a lot of studying, but definitely manageable.
She just put up images and talked about them. It was up to you to decide what to put in your notes of what was most important. My personal experience with her made me struggle because I had medical issues. She didn't wanna work with me so I had to withdraw from her class
She knows what she is talking about and is very passionate about art, however she would only lecture every class period. She would overload the lectures with info and I never knew what was important enough to write down or not. As a required class I was expecting just to learn about art & have fun but it turned into my most demanding class.
