good teacher
Absolutely awesome professor. Wish there would have been more like her.
Generally good teacher. She'll try to get you married if you are not. Great matchmaker
Quite simply one of the best teachers in Commerce.
Dr. Mintu is great in Marketing Research. One of the best professors in the college.
Dr. Mintu is a great professor in Marketing research and marketing in general. She does a great job and is very caring. One of the best professors in the college. Take her rather than Ahmed.
Take Mintu rather than Ahmed. She is tougher but it is worth it based upon all that you learn. She and Carraher are the best in the best in the college.
Great professor. One of the best three in the college. She is tough but fair. Far better than Ahmed. I recommend her to all my friends. She is fun, caring, and interested in students as human beings as well as our careers.
Dr. Mintu is the BEST Marketing Professor in the college. She cares for students although she does have us work hard. Very fair.
Of course she is the BEST Professor in the Marketing area.
Alma rocks!!!!!!!!!
Outstanding Professor. She really cares and helps you to become better in your field.
Second best professor in the college and Best in Marketing.
Great professor. She, Shwiff, Carraher, and Parnell are the BEST in the college. Take Mintu rather than the other Marketing profs is you want to learn.
Great professor. Makes the class enjoyable.
Very caring and good natured. Bring her food and she'll be nice to you.
Best prof undergrad and grad.. the only prof in grad school tht made me realize why i had decided to ge a masters... I wish EVERY prof in the dept was as good as her and I would have felt I got an excellent education!
Mintu rocks. She is one of the best three professors in the Department and one of the best four in the College.
Needs to be in the office more than once a week. When I go by her office she is only there on the day that she teaches which for full time students can be frustrating. Personally very nice.
Alma certainly is good at marketing herself and knows what she is talking about. I agree that it would be nice if she would spend more time in the office. At least Dr. Ahmed is in 5 days a week.
I prefer Ahmed over Mintu.
She does strange things in class that can be insulting. So watch out.
She needs to be more like Dr. Ahmed and make herself availalbe at the office 5 days a week.
Dr. Mintu is a good classroom teacher but I wish that she were here in Commerce more often.
I agree that Dr. Mintu is a good classroom teacher but she could learn a thing or two from Dr. Ahmed when it comes to being available to students in Commerce. Her speakers are great.
I love her teaching style and she cares about her students.
When she ia around she is a great teacher and she gets away with a lot in the classroom.
On-par with Ahmed although a little better. They are about even as he is around a lot more. She is a better teacher.
Best undergraduate professor in Marketing.
Fun class
She doesn't say a lot of **** things like Dr. Zafar does. She is wild in class but treats people fairly.
Dr. Mintu is the best professor in Marketing. I wish that she would spend more time in Commerce but she is likely one of the top three professors in the College along with Schwiff and Carraher.
She's a great prof I have ever met. Even though she is not available in commerce, but we can contact her via email. She will reply us very promptly.
Great professor - expect to work hard and learn a lot. Her projects are very practical in real-world application, but not necessarily related to what you're doing in class. She is very helpful, even though she isn't in Commerce a lot - she is very quick to respond to emails.
Dr. Mintu is great. Enjoyable class and you learn alot. One of the best at Commerce!
Read the book and be prepared for hard test. Also must work in assigned groups with slackers. Always show up for classes, they are fun and very informative. Projects are related to the real world and she graded them accordingly. Excellant professor, the best by far that TAMU-C has to offer. Actually learned stuff!!!!
One of the worst Professors i have had till now. Very arrogant. Learnt a lot in the class. Would not take her class AGAIN.
OK professor nothing great.
Dr. Mintu is a great professor and one of the very few I've had that still had a "Human" touch and didn't seem to think they were somehow "above" or "better" than you. She will have my recommendations!
Great Professor. Very Fair. I am taking her internet marketing class on the internet. I've never met her in person, but class is fairly easy and straight forward if you keep up. Mostly essay questions and not textbook...all information pulled from internet...lots of case studies. Highly recommend her!
She has her moments, but overall she a good teacher.
Online MBA Program. She was pretty indifferent and snobby however it was not a difficult class. 4 Case studies one page each and 2 exams. Difficult but open book and open note. I needed to fill the square I do not enjoy marketing. Overall for online not a bad experience. She is middle of the road as far as teachers go. Not Great and not Horrid
Excellent professor. By far the best TAMU-C has to offer. Many advanced classes don't require a textbook at all. She creates an engaging atmosphere that makes you want to fully participate. Highly recommend her.
Dr. M is a GREAT professor and very fair. She always promptly answers her e-mail and she is very helpful!!!
Great Teacher! If you take anyone else you might regret it!!!
Excellent instructor. Very engaged in the class and more than willing to be challenged without it affecting your final grade.
Dr. Mintu is wonderful, if you take the right class! The core MKT 521 course is terrible, but any other elective courses she is wonderful. She grades very differently between the two courses. Be prepared for a difficult time in MKT 521! She won't give her expectations of what makes a good "A" paper. As for electives, very good class, easy A!
She is extremely helpful and is always available for questions. I did find her exams a bit tough, she does not simply take terms out of the text book. She gives examples that make you apply the terms in real world situations. If you participate in the weekly online posts, it will help your grade.
Follow syllabus, participate in class and you will do fine. She lays out expectations prior to class beginning. 4 - 1 page case studies, participation and midterm, final exams. Challenging class but A is attainable if you spend time on assignments, study and provide what is asked.
She follows the syllabus exactly and is VERY clear in her explainations. 4, one page analysis due and she grades tough however, her feedback is very useful (set up a time to get that feedback 1on1). Use text CD practice quiz/tests and it will prepare you for the mid-term and final. Participate in on-line chats. Very attentive professor.
This was by far the best class and teacher I've had since starting my MBA. Professor Mintu treats her students with respect and engages them in real conversations. Case studies, two mid terms, and Discussions make up the grade. Tests make you think, but with no trick questions. It takes a lot of class participation to get a high score in that area.
I had difficulty at the beginning of the class but after consultation with the professor I was able to pull my grade up. Probably, the class would be better if she provided a forum for online lectures.
Dr. Mintu is the BEST professor in the MKTG dept! She really challenges you, but always gives hints & is very responsive. She teaches all online courses & uses discussions heavily, which are on current topics. She provides a RICH set of materials to read (lectures, journal articles, etc.) that directly relate to our topics. Outstanding Professor!
This class is heavily discussion based on current events. The book is important, especially for exams. Read the syllabus more than once for clues on what she is looking for in case studies.
online class. discussion topics mostly. 3 to 5 case studys that are 1 page single spaced. 2 exams. Earned a mid B in the course but counted it as an A.
When you ask her questions she is useless. Says "refer to the syllabus" but when the questions you ask aren't in the syllabus, then what? The case studies do not seem difficult while you are writing them. She does not tell you what she is looking for until after you get your poor grade and she tells you she wanted something completely different.
She is very involved with the discussions and has a great attitude. I would agree with the previous person's post in that the cases don't seem too difficult, however she expects a lot in them. It is important to relate cases to the material. The test isn't that hard and she seems like she will curve. I think she is one of my better professors here.
I would rather graduate late than to take another class with her. Make sure you suck up in class discussions and dominate the conversations or else she won't notice you. You have to be the annoying student to call other students out or tell her good job for her accomplishments to get a good participation score despite what she says. STAY AWAY!!!!!!
I really enjoyed this class. The postings were always fun and kept me interested. You must be very detailed with the cases and make sure you touch on each of the specific problems. Study the book AND her notes for the tests. Follow her guidlines for the posting sessions and you will be fine. My B was curved to an A.
Took the online Consumer Behavior class, elective. The professor runs the class like Harvard/Wharton--all applied dicussions, etc. Learn lots, fun and challenging (which is good). If you don't want to learn, why pay so much $ to go to school, rt? She's intelligent, but laid back. Must participate in discussions and study.
I took this course online and really enjoyed this prof. You can't slide by in her class - you do have to pay attention and study, but overall, the discussions are really interesting and she keeps it lively and fun. I HIGHLY recommend this prof. for any course. You will be treated with respect and she really cares about the learning process.
This was my third class with Dr. M...I'd take more in a heartbeat. Best prof I've had; always helpful, interesting and eager to learn more about her students. Discussions are intense but well worth the time and effort. A+++ for the best prof at TAMU-C!
Excellent teaching style. Focuses more on quality rather than quantity of workload (4 cases, 2 exams, discussions). She is very involved in discussions. You must do a lot more discussions than she asks for. For case studies, use concepts from the chapter and use facts from the actual case. Exams are hard! So read the book and type your own notes!
A lot of work and the test are long, but she has a diverse testing way so those that are good at MC and those that are better at writing both have an opportunity to do well in this class. Dr M makes this class tolerable, especially if you dont like Marketing.
Looking at everyone's post.It seemed like majority was impressed with her. I am not very impressed with her. Her teaching style was vagued.
Dr. M's class requires a lot of postings. The grading is fair. 4 case analysis's are required but only 1 page each. She likes detail and active participation. Exam material is from the textbook.
Dr. Mintu is very participative with students, which is good. Tough class but she's a good prof. Be ready to post (and early) on every day she has it open. She will not tell you what she's looking for on case studies-be exhaustive and concise in these. Tests are a challenge. Will I take again? I'll have to think about that.
Reading prior comments, I was warned. Out of MANY years of school, night and day, I have never taken a class where I had high expectations and leaving with such disappointment. One said, I would rather miss a semester than take her again. I would have to agree. Hated the format and the exams - completely subjective. Rather write 20-page papers!
Good Course. I learned a lot. Course is set up so that if you do A quality work you'll get an A. If you slack off or don't pay attention, you'll pay for it. It is a very fair course gradewise and there is tons of stuff to learn in the book and lecture articles. The project lets you create a new product and target a consumer segment.
Although I'm not a marketing person, I actually enjoyed the class and learned quite a bit. The discussions were so much fun. It was challenging - the professor's expectations were high, which is to be expected for a graduate class.
I really enjoyed this class. This is the 2nd class I have taken from Dr. M. A lot of postings are required but the papers have only a 1 page requirement. The exam was mostly essay format (no textbook needed). I learned a lot about Internet Marketing in this class. Dr. M is very active in the class discussions. A's are pretty attainable.
Did not use a book, but rather required study of published articles and papers. Interaction was primarily through the online discussion board, with some email. Very engaged and very helpful. One of the best professors I have had at TAMU-C.
Instructor has high expectations for each student. Students have the opportunity to get grades from exams, discussions, and short cases. As long as a student is trying, the instructor will be as helpful as possible. Instructor is very interactive and expects the same of each student.
Dr M is highly engaged with the students and a fair grader. She has very high expectations and her exams are challenging. Participation is key and will help your grade. She was highly responsive to questions and emails and made you think. Excellent course. i wish more professors cared this much and participated in their online courses.
I'd recommend others to consider taking Professor Mintu. She's clear and very engaging with the class. Her exams are challenging so time manage while you work through it. The case studies aren't so bad either. Just makes you a bit nervous to cram info into 1 page if you write a great deal like I do. But overall manageable course to get a good grade
Great instructor! Very involved with class instructions. If you have questions she is willing to clarify, but will not repeat herself, rather point you to the already posted information. 4Paper requirements are simple, 1pg and easily attainable. Exams can be challenging, but if you skim the book you will do fine. Timeline requirements good. Easy A!
Make Sure you get the book! Be ready to pull topics from each lecture to put in your case studies
Only 2 tests (Mid-term and Final). 4 Cases. Discussion board is a must, you cannot miss one post. Be sure and answer every question for your cases for maximum points. Tests are cut and dry - material comes straight from the book. Read, do well on your cases, stay engaged on the discussion boards and you'll be fine. Stick to the syllabus!!!
THIS PROFESSOR WILL NOT WORK WITH YOU. Extremely RUDE emails. Her class is too easy, but she is hard to deal with and hard to communicate with. Her class was a waste of time and money if you ask me.
First, when doing online, you get 2-3 days tops per week to get homework done. You can't do any homework early either, so you can't work weeks in advance. The mid-term and final is only open for 48 hours. So time management is critical. Second, you don't have to interact with other students online. You can just speakrespond to her questions.
Very inspirational. Participation is must. Exams are multiple choice and some short answers
4 Case studies(100pts), 2 Exams(200pts), and plenty of discussion boards(100pts). You MUST be active if want the full participation. active meaning posting for every a plethora of posts. not just 5 or 6. I thought I was going to get a B but I received an A. She was helpful and I learned alot. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
Don't take her.
Big NO NO!!
Dr. Mintue is the baddest professor you would ever have, she is not there for the students. Busy with her family all the time( especially with her son and his school TCU). She gives too many homework. Her exams are the hardest. Don't think of taking this class with her ever.
Dr. Mintu's teaching style was vagued. Don't think of taking any class with this professor , you won't pass.
She is awful. Very bad professor. Exams are from another planet
Extremely RUDE emails. She is hard to deal with and hard to communicate with. Her class was a waste of time and money.
Great teacher. I have taken two classes from her already and plan to take a third. Participate more than the minimum requirement, read the assigned reading and take your time on the papers and you will do fine.
My advice as a former student who took this class with Alma that if you like to work hard and gain nothing then take her. She is very arrogant and rude. She is very hard and tough.
Dr. M was far and away the best prof at A&M Commerce that I have taken. She "gets" the online format better than anyone, resulting in a better learning experience. She is fair and extremely engaged in posted discussions. I wish she had taught every class I took at TAMU-Commerce. (PS: to Ratemyprofessor: why is "easiness" a good thing?)
Choose another Professor. She doesn't know how to teach.
You couldnt hope for a better Professor. When I started the course she was very upfront about her expectations from the students, and that if you didnt follow the syllabus you would be docked points. Professor Alma Mintu-Wimsatt also wants students to be engaged with one another in the online forums which is required. Easy "A" if you do the work.
She is one of the best online professors I've taken. She understands that most of us have lives and careers outside of class, but is still very involved in discussions and is supportive. There is some work and studying, and you have to understand the materials at least slightly to pass, but a great class overall!
She is very strict, but not hard. Follow her rules to the letter and you will have no problem. Seems daunting at first, but, once you get in her groove, it's all good.
Dr. Mintu refers to herself in the third person. This, added to her warning-laden course instructions, make her seem like her course will be a pain. Don't be fooled. Do as she says and, in a week or two, you'll be in her groove and the class won't be a big deal. In fact, you'll probably enjoy it. She's good.
I ended up taking Dr. M for three of my graduate courses because she is just THAT good. Super engaging and responsive. No books are required. Favorite professor I've ever had!
Read the syllabus very carefully!! This professor is strict and a tough grader. Most discussions are opinion based, but still grades tough on them. You won't know your participation points until it's too late. Go above and beyond on everything. Ended up with a B in this easy elective because I didn't go "beyond the minimum requirement".
Participation is a must. If you are not willing to log onto the class multiple times a day. Do not take this class. She is a fair grader if you answer the questions she asks. Don't write fluff. No textbook used, but read a lot of journal articles. Take her! She is really involved with the students.
She is awesome. The best thing is that she cares about her students. I would most certainly recommend her to anyone taking the marketing course.
Took her online MBA marketing class and would not recommend. Exams are straight out of the textbook so theres no point in reading her lectures. Theres no rhyme or reason to her discussion or case study grades. Dont take this class or prof. Youll learn more and struggle less in a different class.
Dr. Mintu uses weekly online discussions to simulate a classroom environment. Unlike many professors who use implement weekly discussions, she is actively involved. Your postings matter and she will engage you through these discussions. Work on assignments ahead of time and email her questions. She is responsive to emails and will give guidance.
You get out what you put in. If you don't participate or demonstrate an understanding of the material she provides then you get penalized. If you follow the syllabus and respond how she expects then you will pass her class with no issues.
