He understands mgmt sci, but doesn't teach it very well.
Pretty easy course....Fun teacher wants you to learn but hard to understand
Great Prof, reveals test material, no surprises in this course
Excellent prof! Encourages people to come see him for help. A+++++
No Comments
Very Helpful. Wants you to do well. Very nice outside of class. Great guy!
One of the best profs at uni cuz he gives you simple ways of doing the material rather than the complicated way in the text. His notes are like grant's notes....straight to the point without all the theory that you don't need to know.
very interesting course, but he makes it sooo boring. Also very hard to understand his lectures, one of the worse profs ever!!
Horrible. Bad English. Could never understand his lectures. Talked down to students. Worst prof I ever had.
His thick accent makes for difficult learning experience. He does his best to help you understand. Gives hints to exam questions, however, at times teaches one to do questions that differ from ways done in the exam. Overall, he's OK.
So funny! Just like Apu from the simpsons. Very interactive with class, lots of participation marks. Good guy.
nice guy but possibly the worst prof ever. Thick accent, lectures are all over the place, horrible handwriting on overheads. The only good thing is that he pretty much gives you the exam questions before hand.
Excellent professor, one of the best I have ever had. He is easy to understand and always makes you laugh. He also sometimes brings candies and make hilarious remarks about different people.
he's funny and really smart, take int. magt. with him for sure
The class was a complete mess. His marking system was inane, the textbook was completely ignored, and for the final 25% case study exam, he might as well of asked "what number am I thinking of?" He's one of those "professionals" that gets hired for knowing their stuff even if they can't teach it
good guy. keeps the class interesting and people involved.
Worst teacher ever...
Good professor, nice guy.
great teacher! He cares a lot about his students and is always willing to help.
Very willing to help - which is good considering how tough the class is. Went through units at just the right pace, made sure that we understood the material. Pretty nice guy overall, too; easy to talk to outside of class.
Awesome professor, always willing to help students no matter what time or day it is. Very dedicated and I wish there was more professor's out there like him.
Excellent prof. Makes you laugh alot. Knows his subject very well. Heavy accent but still quite clear. Extremely helpful. Take as many courses with him as possible. What a cheerful fellow
nice & cool
One of the best prof despites his accent. Informative and interesting, really open ur mind. Ignore those who thinks that his is not a good prof coz they themselves 'are not in the level' to understand his lecture...
IGNORE EVERY COMMENT BUT THIS ONE. I did not find his accent to be a problem, but then again I took his class first after moving here from India and found him really easy to understand. I am kidding, but seriously he is a GREAT PROF. TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE. He is VERY approachable outside of class, and will be flexible on due dates
blabla
Awesome Prof!! Not only does he teach dynamically, but teaches students to think dynamically....very good, very approachable, and I came out of the class with tons of knowledge, awesome class.

Excellent prof and easy class. He is very funny, and his accent isnt a problem at all. Very flexible and always willing to help. He really cares about his students and our grades.
the best teacher i have ever had
At times his instructions aren't too clear, but I learned a lot in his class. He tells things how they are and doesn't sugar coat it. He is very approachable, and the final exam was easy.
Worst teacher I've had at any level of education, including elementary school. Cannot explain basic concepts effectively and does not demonstrate the application of principles. Terrible. Everyone will get a good mark however. Also indicated that ignoresany negative or constructive feedback...way to strive for excellence (not so much)
Great professor. Is a huge help outside of class for corp fi and does alot of examples in class instead of just reading the notes. Very nice prof who cares for his students. one of the best profs in asper, highly recommend
encourage student, but not helpful with your marks. make hard choices with your course load
i don't understand why he made the course of management science such hard!!!only less than 20students can get a or a+, but in regular and in other professor's class there are more than half of class can get A...
Very good Prof. I loved how he picked on the idiots who would say anything to get part'n marks. Also extremely helpful outside of class. I only hope he continues to teach Poly. My favorite saying of his..."ummmm ..no..." Laughed my @ss off every time. Keep up the good work Dua!
Mr. Dua was a fabulous teacher -- smart, funny...he was always on time, organized and kept his lectures to the point...often used his personal experience to spice up lectures and let us know what it's really like 'out there'. TAKE ONE OF HIS COURSES, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
Here is someone who really cares of his students. He is fair in terms of giving marks in a way everyone benefits. Approachable, will listen to opinions and is flexible in making any changes if he feels is necessary. He has a great sense of humour and knows how to keep the class alive. One of the best business course I've ever taken.
Dua is an all around solid professor. He's by far the best prof. for Corp. Fi as unlike Falk, he spends the entire class doing problems rather than reading overhead slides. He's very approachable and a humorous guy who explains everything to a T. If you have the opportunity to take a class with Dua jump on it.
Dua is an awesome prof! He tells hilarious stories that actually DO relate to the context of his classes. Time seems to go by really fast in his class. Try to keep notes during his lectures, though he gives you slides that will help for his exams. He has tricky/challenging questions in his exams, but overall great!
Great Prof
Awesome prof. One of the best profs at Asper by far. He is hilarious, and he always kept the class interesting. His explanations are very clear, and he spends the whole class actually doing problems. He is very helpful outside of class, and he genuinely cares about his students. Highly recommended.
Wonderful prof! He is laid back, funny, treats everyone as equals and his lectures are so good that you actually retain what you learn! Highly recommend this prof!
Awesome Prof
c'mon....everyone loves dua, great prof, very friendly, funny, marks fairly, heavy into class participation and discussion and less emphasis on the book, come prepared and get easy participation marks. con: his notes always suck, although you don't need them anyways
Dont be fooled by his kindness. If you want a good mark for an easy class like mgmt sci, you have to work harder than students in other sections. UNFAIR! Dua thinks the course is too easy so he'll purposely make all questions harder. I thought this was unfair. The other two profs made it easier than Dua and mark tests much more easier than he does.
He is really nice, and REALLY smart
Dua was funny as usual! Great guy. Classes are always interesting, and he's not afraid to say, "mm, not so much" whenever there is a 'less-than-right' answer provided. Highly recommended.
"You are in good hands, I am very smart. I have 4.5 and 4.5 GPA. No, rrreally. Tink about it, if Albert Einstein came back to school he could not do better than me." See if he says this on the first day. Best prof in Aper
Will give you a d if you miss enough class, even if you do well on exams,
Amazing prof. Extremely witty and highly entertaining. Knows how to keep students from falling asleep in an 8:30 class. I'd definately recommend taking him.
great prof. funny, too. Assigns a lot of work (mostly reading case studies) but if you participate, you'll do well. Attend classes because he gives you marks if you are there. He also really wants to help his students do well, so get to know him through his office hours. His MC tests/quizes throughout the year are hard so STUDY!
Keeps you interested. Funny guy. Clear and straight to the point, he can make you understand anything. If you get the chance, try to get into one of his classes.
Fun, interesting class. Classes aren't mandatory for material, and neither are notes (DON'T BOTHER!)But his printed notes that he sends you better now word for word. Tests are easy (from printouts), harder exam.
Funny and easy to get along with, class is always interesting, but cases are useless. Easy class, but midterm for the class was lower than this years managerial accounting and corp. fin. midterm?!?!?!?
Is there a class this guy doesn't teach?! Dua is extremely intelligent, and while others are teaching 100 sections of the same class, he is teaching 8 sections in 8 different classes. Always fully prepared, gets your marks back to you in no time, and his sense of humour is unbeatable. I made sure to take his classes when I can.
He's Great

Funniest Prof u'll ever have!!!
Great prof, really knows his stuff and loves his job. Honestly the best professor I have ever had. He encourages a lot of student participation and discussion. Always cheerful and very enjoyable. Tests can be challenging, but if you study you'll be fine.
he is a good teacher and extremely lenient with markings
One of the BEST professors at UofM. Very funny and smart (he will tell you about his 4.5 out of 4.5 GPA...haha) Highly recommend! And he teaches a wide range of subjects. Lectures are always interesting and his explanations are super clear!
good prof. funny too.
The best prof in the university hands down. Every class he has you laughing and makes even the most boring topic interesting and easy to learn. Always accessible outside of class and more than willing to help you with any question you bring to him
Professor dua is an excellent prof.He uses everyday examples to ensure that there is understanding. Lots of group participation, fun, imaginative and loving. I do believe that he loves his students and job.
He's really great and will help you out any time you need. Had him for Corp Fi at 8:30am and his voice is so loud it will keep you awake! He's awesome!! Will tell you exactly what to study and that the text is fairly useless for practice questions. Work on the lecture material.
hahaha love this guy...so funny!!!
Dua is the best prof I have had yet, BY FAR. It is great that he teachs so many subjects, I will be looking for his classes in the future. Take everything with Dua if you can!
I love him!
Excellent professor, really cares and wants you to understand. He is probably genious, teaching everything from OT, to Mgmt Sci to Productions, CorpFi...I am sure I missed something. Really good guy to talk outside class too. Definitely one of the best Professors I have had.
The rumors are true! Had Dua for Corp Finance for the first time and it was great. If hes that good for a tough course, mgmtSci or orgTheory must be a breeze. Funny guy, and explains things so anyone can understand. You're the man, Dua! (Plus he finished with a 4.5...but you know that if your in his class...
great guy
he is a good prof. Easy on marks and really can learn something. He is knowledge and funny. The teaching method is very unique and the class environment is very good. A+++ recommended for theory courses.
the best prof ever!!! very helpful and easy to understand.
Am I really the only one who finds his lectures all over the place??? It's impossible to take notes cause he jumps around so much. He's a little hard to understand, but he is really funny and you can tell he's passionate about what he's teaching. He's definitely a smart guy but I don't think he's as good of a prof as he's cracked up to be.
He's awesome! He has a lot of opinions but somehow he keeps it appropriate. If you study what he tells you to study, there's no way you can't do well. The only criticism I had was that he spent a lot of classes going over case studies and we barely talked about textbook stuff, but it was still expected that we read the textbook for the exams.
Best prof ever! He is very funny and makes the classes interesting. Study what he tells you to and you will get a good mark! The midterm was all multiple choice AND you got to do part of it with your group. The final was harder since it was majority long answer, but as long as you read the chapters you did good!
This is one of the hardest, if not the hardest course at Asper...u MUST take it seriously or u will take it multiple times or fail. Dua is probably the best professor I have ever had, he is honest, clear, genuinely wants his students to succeed (but will fail u if you half-ass). Be serious about this class or you'll take it 2+ times, guaranteed!
Keeps things interesting, and makes sure you know how to do the work. Expects you to read the theory on your own time and spends class time on practice, something I really appreciated. He actually teachers rather than putting up Power Point slides that repeat what's in the text book. Puts a lot of energy into teaching, something that is rare.
So much fun! Love coming to the class!
Tells you what he wants
There is a reason why his classes fill up immediately... best prof in asper
Best Prof at Asper, but don't expect miracles in his classes. You still have to work hard. His stories are so funny and interesting. He is by far the most humorous Professor i ever had.
awesome prof, very laidback and approachable, really nice and knowledgeable, very humorous makes ALOT of jokes keeping the class entertained, i love this prof, THE best prof in ASPER!! ps. his final overall GPA was 4.50-he knows his stuff!!
best professor in asper. calls himself god. 4.5 gpa. from what i remember god should be driving a benz.
A rare combination of both great person and great professor. Very good sense of humour. Great overall!
awesome professor- funny , interesting, especially his anecdotes bsed on his own personal experience. the cse study learning was really intersting and fun- he was so encouraging and i felt challenged to think creatively. the final exam though was very difficult for how the course was presented- too much emphasis on memorizing tables and definitions
Many difficult concepts are covered in this particular finance class but a number of assignments allow you to get a decent grade even if you don't test well. Glad I took the class; found myself looking forwards to his classes, even in summer session. Great prof, makes time for students who may need extra help.
summer session - 2 midterms, 1 final, 10 case or chapter summaries (9/10 are counted), 1 group presentation and 1 negotiation simulation... the prof is a bonafide genius and he's so personable! Very funny, never boring, gets you into the conversation... applications are awesome, really gets the theories into action! Best prof in Asper!
greatest
hes an alrite prof. i dint see da big fuss bout him. His test are harddddd!!!!! so study cuz his notes arent helpful at all. He will give you D if u wont participate or attend class. Not recommended go to another prof if u have choice!
Average prof. Tells the same jokes. very easy midterms, super hard finals so he can justify giving you a lower grade (or even fail you). So watch out for classes that weighs heavily on the final exam. Most class notes come from the textbooks and no real insights into the subjects taught.
Funny and nice prof..I honestly think the fuss about him relates to the fact that only marks you have to really earn are on the mid and final exams.Even then, he gives a detailed outline of the material thats going to be tested. The thing I most appreciate about him, is that someone with his energy and humor is a rare commodity at asper. A++ prof.
Highly rated but overrated in my opinion. Not a bad prof by any means, but I won't consider him the best by any stretch. His exams were based 99% on the textbook, with obscure questions not really covering the course content (more memorization of parts of the chapters). He does explain the content well but that is barely on the exams.
He keeps it interesting but that about it. Notes are impossible to follow and tests are hard
He's very clear. He likes to make jokes and apply his personal experiences to the course material. 1 midterm, 1 final, 1 group presentation + summaries and class participation. Exams are hard and make sure read both his notes and the textbook.
least favourite course this year but that isn't his fault. Exams are hard.too many random questions from the text.I think the 15% class participation is too high.Textbook is wordy, super in depth compared to his too simple notes.Textbook terms were different from terms he used in his notes. in general i found text confusing.
Don't buy that expensive text you won't ever use it. Too bad I did. Anyways course is super easy. Exams are pretty much the questions you do in class. Lets you out early but near the end he started going suuuper slow even when the topics were so simple. His notes were perfect for this course unlike his gmgt course notes...
It's always been easy with Dua. Attend the class and you learn something outside of class. Make sure you get the notes package. Final appears Challenging, but as long as you know what you doing, it's all fine.
are you kidding me? the final was ridiculously hard! SO MANY RANDOM QUESTIONS AND PRINCIPLES he never mentioned in class! stay away and take it with somebody else!
This man is a GOD! I've had him twice now and he is one of the best profs in the faculty! Between Dua and Sean MacDonald, they are the reason why people should be in Business!!!
He is by far the best prof in the business faculty. The exam was tricky but if you study, you should be fine. Everything involves effort and nothing is easy. Attend class!!
For MSCI 2150... If you take it with him, DO NOT SPEND $270 ON THE TEXTBOOK! Just use the notes that are available for photocopy in the library and go to his lectures. Excellent prof, crystal clear and explains things well. Had him for OT as well, 10/10!
Do not waste money on the textbook. Dua provides his own notes, and they will cover everything you need. Attend class and you are almost guaranteed a great mark. Mid term exams are very similar to class questions. Final exam was tricky, but marking is very fair.
Great prof. Holds your attention throughout class. Always available if you want something clarified. Understands students very well.
Dua is a really nice guy who wants his students to understand the material. This was my second class with him, the only complaint I would have is that throughout the course you feel like it's an easy A, and then he kills you in the final. Both classes my mark dropped at least half a letter grade after the final.
Really nice guy, really wants his students to understand the material. This was my second class with Dua and my only complaint would be that throughout the course you think it's an easy A and then he kills you on the exam to bring the average down. STUDY for the final! Both classes I had with him my grade dropped a lot after the final.
Really nice guy who really wants his students to understand the material. I've taken two classes with Dua and my only complaint would be that throughout the course you think it's an easy A and then he kills you in the final. STUDY FOR THE FINAL! My mark in both classes dropped at least half a letter grade after the final.
I've had Dua before and wasn't a huge fan, but as the professor for the CorpFi lab he was AWESOME! The lectures (with Paseka) were largely theory, which was good to know, but the practice and simplified explanations by Dua were a great compliment, bringing a lot more clarity to the material. Really appreciated having him in the lab.
Pay attention in class when he says 'you need to know this' cause it will be on exam (only a few major concepts). The rest of the class is a joke and waste of time. All grades heavily based on curve.
Entertaining prof, enjoyed lectures, humour-filled lots of laughs. Studying is a must for exams as they're a lot harder than expected.
Dua is an awesome prof. But he is more about doing examples and helping you learn how to do things as opposed to why you are doing them. In Fin we went through alot of examples but i never understood why were doing it, dua expects you to know theory. In Msci he was great since its more of a math course not much explaining required. FInal is a hard
Very intelligent man, likes to mention his perfect 4.5 GPA. Very helpful, inside and outside of class, speak up in class and he will like you (he gives participation marks). Midterms and finals are easy if you study what he tells you to. very much enjoyed his class.
He is good guys ! he clearly explain the textbook. if you make effort and good attention on class, you will get A.
not that great. his notes are awful and he will show you 1 example of how to do a particular question and there's no other questions to practice on. the participation marks are an absolute crapshoot. even if you have your hand up, it all depends on if he calls on you to get participation marks which are worth 15%. take with someone else.
Good guy to take this course with if you wanna wreck your GPA. Impossible to get a high mark because the marking scheme is BS. Zero feedback so you have no idea how your doing and a final that your not prepared for because he asked in depth questions of material you barely look at in class. Overall very disappointed.
this course only has a midterm and a final exam. Went through examples in class similar to exam questions. Overall not a difficult course and he tells you what you need to know. also he's a pretty funny guy.
I have take many of his classes, he can teach everything except music, at first I did not like him so much because I am new and I can not know his handwriting but later I think he is really smart and interesting, his lab is very good, sometimes his final exam is not tight to what he told in the class is just because he use other prof's exam paper.
Dua is a good teacher to explain. The course is kind of easy and interesting. One problem is his handwriting. It's hard to figure out what he writes.Recommend this course. I got A+ finally.
Very straight forward! --Gets to the point and makes sure you know what you need to know. Excellent Prof!
Good teacher. The class has cases which must be read and summarized for class participation marks which take up a good portion of your grade. The text is only used for the two midterms which are open book. The exam is all based on concepts he teaches in class. Go to class, participate ALOT, write down the notes, and you'll get an A.
Ive had Dua more than once. Overall he is a very lazy teacher. Class is easy but it seems like he never wants to be there. He'll give you questions to do in class then he'll just leave and do his own thing. I would recommend avoiding him if you actually want to get something out of the class.
I had the worst experience by taking course from him. He is very horrible and lazy. Moreover, he's textbook is out of this world. He spend most of his time outside the classroom.
I feel like I didn't learn much in this class. You write down notes in class and he asks you the same questions in the exam but a majority of the multiple choice are obscure facts from the textbook. Everyone says he's an easy prof but he doesn't hand out A's. Makes finals hard to lower your mark in the end.
Dua is a horribly lazy man who wants you to suffer through his class. Despite the fact that he wants you to suffer, he also wants you to pass. Curves his classes big time. Not the worst, but not the best for learning.
I was not impressed with his laziness. The final was pretty hard because he added a bunch of random definitions. However the rest of the class was pretty easy.
I have had Dua for about 4 classes now and he is always the same and has the same structure. He rarely hands out A's but also never fails anyone. If you are a student who is happy with a C+ to B+ then he is the guy for you. All of his exams are almost purely based off the class notes he puts on d2l.
professor Dua is a hard worker! One has to give credit for his dedication to academia! Those who call him "lazy" are most likely "lazy" themselves.
One of the best, I would love to take more courses with him. Very knowledgeable, makes the class interesting, if he likes your class he would make the exam much more easier for all of you. Piece of advise, for him to like u need to participate during class (which is part of your marks anyway, might as well participate)
Terrible professor. Would not recommend. Self absorbed.
Impossible to study for this class as he refuses to use any sort of grammar in his notes. Majority of the time it's unclear what he is referring to. Uses acronyms in the notes but doesn't say what they are. One of the worst classes I've ever taken.
Most classes doing cases and group work which only few concepts make it on exams. Read txtbook in detail even though doesn't go over in class cause lots questions from it be on exams. Group presentation, but peer evaluated so high marks. Talk in class because participation is worth a lot. The final is tough so take time to go over all of notes
Every second class is case study which are not on exams, but this is where get lots participation marks which is worth a lot of your grade. Other classes write out notes, which memorize for exams. Study the d2l notes he posts; don't go over in class but high amount of questions on them for final. Final is tough so make sure study everything
terrible prof.
You think you are doing well in the course and then he hits you with the most unclear final. I am an actuarial major student and found the course very easy. I went into the final with an A+ and walked out of the class with a B. He specifically does this to people after course evaluations are done. FINAL MADE NO SENSE
Really great prof giving space and time for student to work on class project and homework. Strongly suggest this professor.
This was my second course with Dua. If you plan on actually learning any valuable skills, don't take his class. If you plan on memorizing exactly what you did in class, getting the same questions on the exams, and regurgitating this information back to him for an A, take his class. Also, open textbook midterms.
Hilarious guy, very difficult class. He teaches the formulas, but not the theory which is fine for the midterm, but the final will destroy you if you don't read the textbook and spend serious time studying.
Dua is a hilarious guy though he's not the best though for Corp Fi. He just gives you formulas and examples which aren't the most helpful for the final. The midterm went easy but he final will destroy you if you don't dive deep in the textbook. He's also super hard to get a hold of for help and even when you do, he won't be of much help.
Taking a class with Dua is worth it if not just so you can say you have had Dua. Funny guy, decent prof. You might learn something from his frequent life advice and unwarranted philosophical teachings.
He is not a very good professor at all. If you are thinking about majoring in the class he teaches do not take it with him. He gives you enough info to pass the exam, but that's it. I needed to attend a different class just to get the proper info. He doesn't even have his MBA so I am not too surprised.
Taking a class with dua is a lot like drinking anti freeze. Everyone told you not to do it, but you didn't listen... and now you are filled with tearful regret
Pro Dua himself is very nice and humour but the way he keeps typing is a little bit boring; otherwise he's a wonderful teacher and easy marker.
Lectures were pointless, didn't learn anything of value from a would-be "capstone" course. Very unstructured prof, would make up random useless assignments on the spot that he would completely forget about the next class; complete waste of time. Don't end your degree with this prof, not worth the headache, stress, or frustration.
He made the super easy at first but after the first midterm it all goes downhill. He has a super hard final(as usual) but all you can do is dive into your books and hope for the best. If you're comfortable with C+ to B+ grade range, go for it.
Participation is important and gives you more than enough chances to get those marks. Lectures are interesting and you don't need the textbook to pass, though it is nice for extra notes for better understanding. He was willing to tweak the final to what we found as a class important and actually got us to think like managers.
He teaches so man courses in Asper and I wonder how can someone know every single topic among all the business courses!!. He does not teach, He just talks and leave you with your group members while he is out walking around and getting his tea ready. You will not learn any thing in his class and you do not even know what he examines you on. AVOID
Alok is a true gem. People will bash him, but he's an incredibly funny, passionate, and above all, smart, dude. He doesn't mind showing off sometimes, but man, the guy knows his stuff. A genuinely good guy to talk to. Just come to class, no textbook necessary and no outside reading.
He is a bad professor for teach MSCI 2150, on final exam, he will text over a half difficult questions, and he never teaches on his course. if you want to take his course, good luck, I will be never take any course with him. so bad professor.
Makes the midterm very easy and then makes the final impossible to bring the average down. Doesn't even really teach examples, just gives a booklet of questions that are from the textbook
Participation counts for a large percentage of your grade. There is lots of group work, so choose a motivated group. Final was very specific questions so you better study hard. Overall he was ok, but I don't think I would take again
Other classes will go over the basics questions, while Dua jumps right into exam level questions, and actually prepares you for the type of questions you will see. The class slides that are posted are not followed and do not represent the type of questions you will see, so I stress, you must go to his the lectures, even if 75% of them are useless.
Super hard to get participation marks, he usually gives about 60% to each student even if you participate quite often. Let's you have open textbook time for tests (not final) so buy the textbook and tab important definitions and concepts. He doesn't read case summaries so write whatever you want and don't waste too much time on them.
Super hard to follow his notes. Didn't need textbook for final at all, it was only off his online power-points. Online power-points look like crap and are super hard to read. Hard to get participation marks, he only around 60% to each student. Presentation is graded by other students, he goes on his laptop the whole time and doesn't listen at all.
Don't take corp fi if you don't have to. He just comes to class and writes random questions on the overhead projector which you can barely read. Doesn't follow slides at all. Use David's Tutoring books if you want a chance in hell at passing this course...
the most horrible prof I ever had. he is not teaching at all! all the time he is late and gives breaks (only for himself) for 30 min or even an hour. he puts really strange marks, even for class attendance (i didn't miss any class and got only 60). AVOID this professor!!!!
Self-study is must. Doesn't really care about new ideas. Hilarious but a tough grader.
Absolutely worst prof at Asper. This course could be done so much better. He expects you to read the chapters alone, make notes and basically memorize the book, and then he exams you on it. Classes have 20% but he doesn't go over chapters at all, just useless cases. Avoid this prof at all costs, it'd be better to drop the course and take it later.
This class is heavy in examples but the prof doesn't actually teach. He's demeaning, he leaves on breaks for long periods of time but gives you the third degree when you miss a class. He insults his students and his ego takes over the class even if it is completely irrelevant to the topic. There is nothing valuable of taking a class with him.
Absolutely hilarious, probably should spend more time actually teaching than joking around but he was one of the few professor's where I can actually stand listening to. His odd ball ways keeps you focused.
Doesn't cover any textbook material. Overall the class isn't difficult, but you have to learn all the material yourself.
Only take a course with Dua if you have the testbank for the textbook. If not, then I would avoid this prof because getting a good grade in his class requires understanding the types of questions he will ask. Does not cover textbook chapters in class, only the case studies. He always makes the final hard to balance out the grade distribution...
He is a decent prof ! Students often bash him saying he doesn't teach well, but he has his own way of teaching. He might not be great in explaining theory part but is a great . prof when i comes ti numerical questions. He is one of the reason I am pursuing a major in Finance.
He was the coolest prof. Especially if you are an international student
Excellent guy. Makes class interesting and enjoyable.
Alok Dua is the BEST PROF at Asper. His stunning good looks and very jolly personality makes class so exciting! He is truly a gift to the Asper School of Business. Take him every opportunity you get.
Make sure you read the course outline very carefully when you take any course with Alok Dua. He gives you all the information you need to succeed in the course. He also gives pretty good life advice and is hilarious.
He taught superficially in the classroom. But he loves to formulate a tough question. He does not explain things clearly, But assumes that students knows everything. Very disappointed with his lecture and questions.
Very interesting professor, lucky to have corp fin with him. Easy mid-term and EXTREMELY hard final. Get ready for it.
Not impressed by his teaching style. Doesnt prepare students for exams. Too laid back attitude and isnt genuine
Although everyone has mixed opinions, he does care about his students. The finance course is a very heavy class which he odes rush through. Be prepared for his messy handwriting as well. You're basically on your own for how to prepare for the exams, which are very tough. Very relaxed prof who tends to get off topic onto his stocks or life advice.
One of the best instructor in U of m for INTB2200!
Attending class is important. Practice a LOT so that you won't make simple mistakes.
he is not serious, he often jokes about life choices, e makes you feel relaxed until exams. then you know the course is not as easy afterall. I had fun during the class but I would not take him agian
Good prof who shares a lot of personal experiences. For SCM, make sure you read the cases before class and you'll likely get an A. The material isn't hard, just gotta read it.
The absolute worst professor I have ever had the displeasure of taking a class with. His is chronically late, cuts class early, and rarely teaches anything related to the course, instead he low-key brags about his personal life and the pains of being "rich". Rude, arrogant and self-important are his best descriptors.
amazing prof
He's sometimes bad at giving clear instructions, a little forgetful, and is a somewhat strict grader. Exams can be pretty tough too. HOWEVER, I love going to his classes because he is HILARIOUS, really passionate about what he teaches, and is great at explaining class content. He's not the best, but I wouldn't call him the worst. Mixed feelings.
In a word, average. Dont expect to learn much about anything in this class. He will spend more time talking about his life decisions then about HR. You will have almost no clue what to expect on the final but he is a relatively fair grader.
Honestly, he's a bang average prof. Don't have much against the guy. He's funny in class and gives decent lectures, however, he doesn't necessarily cover all the material needed for the final exam, so watch out. Otherwise, he's a pretty fair grader. If you have him don't worry too much, just participate and show up to class and you should be fine.
Very inspirational instructor.
Honestly after today's class i am really disappointed by this guy. He really find 3rd world countries a topic to laugh at. Makes funs of mostly all racist, countries and there culture, with out asking shares his all life issues and opinions which no one care about. Talks about everything except the important stuff.
Definitely one of the best profs I've had. genuanly a nice caring person and doesn't have that bitter teacher attitude. the tests are not easy but the classes are very enjoyable.
Dua is probably one of the worst professors at the University of Manitoba. He never explained any of the cases very well and almost every time put a question up on the board and said "you have 25 minutes to complete this for class participation" and then would walk out of the room until the time was up. No explanations, no questions. Useless class.
The final exam featured 3 questions, totalling about 35 marks (out of 90) that were never mentioned in class or in the textbook. Every single person that walked out of the exam room said "well, I failed that exam." I attended almost every single class and read through the entire textbook and had never seen some of these questions before. Avoid Dua.
The things he taught weren't tested on. He would only show you one example in class then expect you to have a deep understanding of the topic.
This is a class in the evening and is once a week so there were lots of things to take notes in every class. Dua would post the notes on umlearn but there were lots of typos in them :( Also for this course he won't give sample questions for your final. Multiple choices in the final were kind of tricky.
Professor Dua is the most incredible prof I have come around through the University, He is amazing, his lectures are fun and Philosophical from his experience of all those years of teaching. He Understands the modern era of teaching, you just need to come around and understands him with open mind. Best professor in Asper!
Alok Dua is one of the best professors in U Manitoba and tries to make his lectures as interesting as possible. A good teacher and only gives what he teaches to you on exams(concepts and all) TAKE SCM 2160 WITH HIM!
Dua is a funny guy and his lectures are entertaining, but he simply doesn't write the final exam and therefore doesn't teach what's on the final exam. He literally emphasizes that for his midterms, don't read the textbook and focus on his lectures, and for the final to read the textbook. Stay away for SCM2160!!
His final was insane! Can't find the key points. He made the tests easy and it's totally different from the final and final accounts for 45%!
He is the worst prof I have ever had. He is all over the place and makes no sense. The stuff our exams were on were completely different from what we were taught it was terrible. Also, he thinks he is the best person ever (lol).
I guess it depends on what course you take with him but I thought he was hilarious and his lectures were informational, you could say he's a bit of a clown. Take it with a grain of salt since international business isn't nearly as daunting as finance or supply chain where he seems to get lower ratings on this site.
He is Horrible. His mind is not organized. He does not use slides at all and makes you write even tho he can easily give the notes before the class. He does not teach you anything new. He gives grades but depends on if he likes you or not. Overall very poor performance.
Took two courses with him, one of the easiest professors to deal with. Finals are twisted but overall if you attend all the classes, take notes, and read your slides you will get an easy B. Cracks jokes (some lame) but keeps the class entertained. If you can then take courses with him, can't guarantee about knowledge, but yr cgpa will thank you
I had Dua for FIN 2200. When I saw that he taught FIN 3450, I decided to take this course for my international business requirement. No regrets. He was even better in this class than in FIN 2200, since he didn't have to deal with the finance department's draconian governance. Instructions are clear, lectures are engaging, and grading is fair. 5/5.
He is an excellent prof. If you wanna pass Corp Fin2200 take it with Dua just ace the midterm as final is difficult and you will pass the course with DECENT GRADE
FIN 2200 is one hard class. There isn't much good profs that teach it. I took in the summer with Alok and he is one funny guy. He was good for all the concepts for the midterm and then rushed everything after the midterm which screwed me over. I still got the required grade though but that's because I put in a lot of work for this class.
The last class I had with him was 3 hour HRIR class that started at 8:30, he made the class really funny and engaging, and helped to wake you up in the morning and keep you engaged. Assessments for this class were easy, a significant portion of the grade was participation, and easy group work. ill try to be in as many classes with him as possible!
His notes are very disorganized but the textbook will help you make sense of them. The multiple choice on his tests are a bit outrageous but you can make up for it in the group presentations, negotiation simulation, and class participation. He is clearly a mess but kind of entertaining. The problem is I dont think he really has a background in HR.
Thinks he is the best prof at asper, but he's the worst I've ever had. He doesn't explain anything thoroughly and gives very few examples to understand concepts while expective mastery of the material. Brutal professor avoid at all costs.
Avoid him for SCM2160. Puts as little effort as possible into teaching and grading. Ill-prepared disorganized lectures, both those given in class (opens a word doc. on the projector and types strings of words) and those online. Punctuation, formatting, and titles/section headings don't concern him. No feedback on assignments. READ YOUR TEXTBOOK!!!
Unprofessional and irresponsible. He asked us to teach ourselves or spend the entire class do the in-class assignment so he does not need to give a lecture. His midterms are ok, but the final is unreasonably difficult! A lot of content never taught in the class at all! Self-learning is better than attending lectures.
Lectures are informative but lots of questions come from outside the lectures. MCQs are very difficult to answer and very short time given to finish the MCQs and T/Fs questions in midterms and finals, resulting in most students to do very bad in this course. He needs to give more notes and be more specific. Not the ideal prof for INTB2210.
To get a good grade in this course, you have to write a solid 2500+ term paper or you will fail 100%. However, questions come from lectures but time limit is very low compared to the hard MCQs and T/Fs given in midterms and finals. He gives extra credits to all students also and is a good choice for GMGT1010. Show up and get 18% - 20% easily.
The most unorganized prof I've ever had. Very rude and negative in lectures. Does not evaluate fairly.
Rude to anybody who asked a question. Typed out indecipherable "notes" in a word document that were mostly just sentence fragments with many typos. Gave out in-class homework questions and wouldn't explain how to do them, then got very annoyed when we got answers wrong. Went online for COVID mid-sem, he made our group project due even sooner. Yikes
In my 14+ years of going to school, plus additional classes after school, plus extra curricular teachers (coaches etc.), Alok Dua is the worst teacher I've ever had the unfortunate graces to sign up with. He is the essence of a bad teacher. Every bad thing said before me on this site is 100% true. I have nothing new to add. He makes me sad.
You know in elementary/highschool when your teacher tells you "don't just read off the powerpoint" during a presentation? Clearly Alok Dua needs to go back to grade 3, b/c he does exactly this. He writes disjointed/confusing/poorly written notes in notepad, then just reads it. He will give no context for 90% then go way in depth into one sentence.
First time taking a course with this professor and it was certainly a mistake. His lecture notes and announcements were so unorganized and ugly and the midterm was exactly the same. Midterm was mostly textbook related so lectures were pointless. All I learnt from this course with him was that I'm never taking a course with him again.
Unfortunately I registered in Alok Dua's class and he has been one of the worst profs I have had. He has some of the most restrictive and rule-intensive assignments in the entire school. Despite this he randomly makes up homework on the spot based on a conversation that comes up. I would take this class with any other professor besides this one.
An extraordinarily incompetent teacher, perhaps the worst, least informative, most dull, most soul-sucking class I have ever taken, and that's not saying ANYTHING against GMGT 4010.
Only positive I saw was that hes a funny guy. Other then that the lectures are scattered, unorganized, and unclear. Teaches a math driven course but does little examples nor does he provide excersices with examples allowing you to practice. Doesnt follow syllabus, posted the outline to a huge group project 2 weeks late, leaving no time to complete
Nice guy, kind of funny. Horrible, horrible professor though.
Pls, don't take this class with him! Before taking this class I thought all the reviews might off been a bit hard. BUT THEY'RE NOT! He doesn't teach based off the textbook. Does not make his own final. So basically you have to teach yourself, the whole textbook. classes are boring. whole class is about cases, that aren't part of the final.
For international management his class was easy. He was fairly tough for HR 3450 though. The midterms and group assignments were reasonable if you put in some work. The final however was extremely difficult and heavily curved. I'd try to avoid taking him for classes that can be challenging as I've heard he can make them very tough/confusing
One of the most disorganized profs I've ever had. Lectures are super boring and difficult to follow. Did not prepare us at all for the final exam which about half of was never taught to us. Was registered for another course with him but dropped it as soon as I saw he was the prof. Avoid !!!
Tests were based off terrible notes. Multiple choice true or false with very bad grammar. Makes you take notes that dont help at all and the final based off the textbook that wasnt taught in class. Do not recommend this instructor at all!
This class requires you to study and understand the concepts. If you think you can spend the day before the exam then expect to receive a low grade. If you keep up with the readings and are able to think critically then you should have no problem obtaining a good mark. The exam is difficult but doable.
I took supply chain with Alok and do not recommend this class. The lectures are used for course tests however are very difficult to follow. The exam is solely based on the textbook. The textbook is not used in class at all. The materials on the exam are not taken from the lectures at all. You are basically signing up for a teach-yourself program.
Avoid at all costs taking any of his classes, your are loosing your money. Seriously. Disorganized, disrespectful, doest not explain well, unfair grader. The Asper School should seriously consider terminating this prof. He is doing damage to the Asper reputation
Professor Dua is the worst professor I have ever had. He teaches you nothing in lectures in regards to the curriculum, so make sure you have the textbook. Midterms are easy as Alok makes them himself, but the final is shared amongst all sections making it significantly harder for Dua's section. Avoid is professor at all costs.
I didn't think he was as bad as how people described him on here but after taking 2 classes with him, I came to the conclusion that he is a HORRIBLE professor. Although he is really nice and gives good grades, his teaching style is as if we were in 5th grade. The notes are sloppy and unhelpful. Midterms are given out of textbooks and notes. Bad bad
Absolutely the worst prof I've experienced in my three years of university experience. Professor Dua is ridiculously unorganized and his teaching style is atrocious. The fact that he has a job as a professor astounds me. Please avoid this prof at all costs, do not make the same mistake I did.
PROFESSOR IS VERY GOOD
I thought he wouldn't be as bad as everyone said he is. I was very wrong! This was probably one of the worst classes I've ever taken. I've never had to teach me an entire course. At some point, you won't know what you don't know. His exams are RIDICULOUS!!!! If you do take a course with him, wait till you see his teaching style! Horrific!! RUNNN!!!
Alok dua is the worst professor I have ever had. Extremely unprofessional way of communication with students. Extremely terrible notes. You basically have to teach yourself the whole course.
Avoid him at all cost
Pros: Funny, uses real life anecdotes to explain things, easy to get participation marks if you speak up every class Cons: VERY unorganized, goes off on a tangent, has multiple choice exams (12.5%, 12.5% and 50% worth) that are very confusing and full of tricky questions, notes are very randomly written and often don't make sense
Take part in the lecture, take notes, study and you pass. Simple
Worst professor I've ever had. He's condescending, rude, unorganized, and teaches as if you should already know the concepts. He takes no responsibility for the things that go on in the course. For Ex the TA was gonna go over a final exam and Dua posted the wrong exam for us to do ahead of time. I asked him if he could post the right one he said no
The notes are what he dictates and they are filled with typos. Additionally, there is no recording of the classes. This course has been disrespectful to students as there are no efforts whatsoever from the professor's side and this review will not affect him at all but I will have his course affect my CGPA permanently. STAY AWAY!
This has been by far the worst teacher I have had in my entire life. Gives us notes a week later without any recording. COMPLICATED EXAMS. Notes make very little sense. At this point, I feel disrespected at how little he tries to help the students. We are here giving it our all for him to sit in front of the tv and teach us. Stay AWAY!!!
No homework, no posted course notes, the professor uses examples to teach which he works through during class time and posts full solutions too immediately. He teaches you only what you need for exams/tests which are very fair as he tells you exactly what will be on them. Is very funny and asks for constant feedback on how to improve the course
Hes a hilariously funny guy, and does make a boring class interesting. The only issue is that for the class and midterms you need to learn his lectures and not the textbook. For the final its all based on textbook. I went into that final lost. I truly respect him but its like learning two courses, avoid at all costs
Does not communicate well. Many typos and mistakes in midterms and final exams.
Not much to say. Should not be teaching this class. Teaches as if you've taken the class before and does examples without any explanations on how to do them. Class is hard regardless of who you take it with so study hard and pray you're above the curve and you'll get at least a B.
He is a funny guy but his courses are difficult because he is a very bad teacher. Makes spelling mistakes, talks about inappropriate stuff, disorganised.. etc. Avoid taking courses with him if your GPA matters to you.
Avoid him if possible. He shows zero concern for his students and his grading criteria is ridiculous. He has no idea about the questions he put in the exams or tests. For the final, he inserts questions about chapters he did not even cover and justifies it as them being about concepts in the textbook and that they are "EASY".
Dua: Unorganized and intimidating, lectures are almost all practice problems. You must read the theory on your own, he DOES help you individually in class if you ask. FIN: This class is hard. I average As and still found it hard. Lots of online homework, but it is all necessary practice to succeed. Would not recommend taking with a full schedule.
Although he will interrupt you to ask him questions at the end of the lesson. There are some mistakes in the notes, but they don't affect your understanding. But study his class well and review will be easy, the exam is challenging, review the notes he has given, it will not be too difficult.
Messy teaching style with confusing notes. Goes over examples in class rapidly with minimal explanations. Everything up to the final exam is relatively easy but the final exam made absolutely no sense. Looking at other reviews I wish I would have checked him out beforehand because it looks like many people are saying the same thing. Avoid him.
I am just fed up with Asper and their lousy professors. But this guy is on another level of lousiness. The content is easy, but understanding it is really difficult because all he does is talk about controversial subjects. There's also a lot of favoritism in his class. SHAME ON THE ASPER SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Dua is a very good professor who very obviously cares about the students and understands the material very well and explains it very well too! You will definitely not be bored in his class!
he doesnt know how to teach
Dua is the absolute worst teacher in the world. He does not use a text book or bother to make slides. He simply stands in front of the class and types long run-on sentences in a word document. I had to drop this course even if it will set me back in my degree progress because I might pull out all my hair due to him.
Professor with 0 idea how learning happens or what course material is even supposed to be. No guidance given for testable material/how assignments should be completed. Tests on subjects frequently outside the scope of the course from his personal life, and does not cover much of what is mandated in the course syllabus. Had him twice, never again.
Have courage to hear what he says , I mean you know he's a great proff
Dua was alright but it was hard to retain anything from his lectures. His lectures were mostly rants about topics he wanted to talk about.
I would avoid Alok at all cost if you hope to receive a good grade. His teaching format is complicated and has a poor relationship with the students. His ego is so big that he does not even realize his students don't comprehend his lessons. He will ask if theres any questions after a long problem, wait 3-4 seconds, and move on. Smart, but bad prof.
Would not recommend him as a prof. He is very funny, but sometimes in a sexist/ almost racist way. Gets carried away talking about his son and his own mismanage of money. Difficult class, but Alok makes it even more difficult for the students.
Incapable of writing good lecture notes or anything that requires a basic knowledge of English. Exams are not correlated to class material. Each question often has 4 different font sizes and half of them are bold or highlighted. Do not waste your mental health on this man.
One of the worst professors. Wasted lecture time talking about his personal life to the point we knew more about his personal life than actual course material. His lecture notes to describe them simply were absolute TRASH. Very confusing/lacking explanations when he actually did talk about lecture material. Do yourself a favor and avoid him.
There was hardly anything on the final that was taught in class. Was slow and lazy throughout the term. Just rattled out misspelled lecture notes on a word doc that was completely useless. Would not recommend.
Bad Prof.
Do not ignore these reviews!! Don't expect to receive a quality education from this prof, as you will have to cram everything in the textbook for the final because he doesn't follow the textbook at all. He also doesn't have slides, so you have to really pay attention to the class to do well in the midterms. He is so messy too and just a headache.
Not really sure what to say. Having Alok Dua as a prof is an experience so unique it really can not be put into words, one must just go through it to fully comprehend what is going on. Some think he is a mastermind, others the fool. Say the odd intelligent comment and get full participation. Does not post notes. Mediocre tests. Rant heavy.
Cracked up laughing at least once every lecture. Dude is hilarious and the class was ridiculously easy. By far the best experience I had at this university
Terrible professor. Singles out students for his entertainment. Sits down with his feet up during lectures and talks into the mic like a robot while everyone follows along with his Google Doc. How is he getting paid for that? Had to drop the class I could not stand more than 2 lectures with him.
weird exams but great lectures
very entertaining guy, only because he goes on rants every class, sometimes about things we are not even talking about in the course. have had him twice now and although he can be funny, his notes are not great, test questions are very difficult at times and just very unclear about many things within his courses in general
He is fair with grading and testing. He is a bit unconventional as a teacher but is very knowledgeable about what he teaches. Studying on your own will take you really and in my opinion better off in this course.
Dua is one of the more interesting profs i've had. He is very entertaining during lectures but the material and notes he posts are not very useful. The exams are a joke as they have many spelling mistakes and are very difficult. Overall, Dua is a funny guy but i'm not sure i'd want him as a professor again.
Professor is hilarious but disorganized. Rely on unstuckstudy ai and the textbook to do well - lectures are hit-or-miss. Overall an entertaining class, but prepare to put in extra work.
Just ended the second week and I feel stuck, I can't drop this class so i won't get waitlisted somewhere else. I absolutely hate his teaching style, some might say he's hilarious but he needs to be serious for one second and teach the actual material. I'm worried that i'm gonna fail cause he seems like an awful teacher with questionable jokes.
I have no words. We're into the second week of class and this guy is literally all over the place and he does not make any sense. A lot of people dropped the class after the second day. Textbook was required and he's not even following the textbook?? Like how are we already at Chapter 5 when we've only had 2 classes? Everyone is so confused.
You just need to attend one of his classes to understand.
He taught literally nothing but he marked easily so definitely I will take his course again to get high GPA.
Absolute struggle to keep up with this class. If you zone out for one second it is likely that you've missed 5 different homework assignments. Raise your hand and try to ask what he had just assigned? He wont even remember. HIs quizzes are absolute nonsense and not to mention the english he uses is not proper so its impossible to understand.
I mean Dua is just Dua. You don't learn anything and he's all over the place, wouldn't be my first choice.
He was very unorganized and made a lot of jokes that don't relate to the material. He assigns homework during lectures but doesn't post announcements about it. I recommend to study the material on your own time because he does not touch on everything from the core notes or textbook.
he was not really very good nor really bad. i thought i would not pass but i scored well. other than that his lectures are heavy and the quizzes were not related to what he taught in the class. also as it a written course, there were a lot of assignments. overall he was good and helpful.
Funny guy!! Can be definitely taken for electives cause his lectures are awesome (funny).
Goes on rants that are offensive.
Alok Dua = Perfection
Can be confusing during lectures but if you are paying attention you will be fine. Easier grader and test are very similar to the questions given in class.
Super funny, unserious, easy prof if its not about math
mid. useless class but it was easy
A true figure of inspiration. Doesn't flinch at the mention of torture, violence or guns. A man so revered that he personally gets called to the deans office for a talk. I don't what I'm saying. He does need new jokes tho.
Very Funny professor, puts in a lot of effort to try and relate with students and spark conversations within the class. Not very organized so prepare to review the textbook.
i took 4 classes and he's good i know more about his son now
Honestly, hes pretty bad if you want a structured way of learning, but otherwise he gives a lot of examples in class and he tries to be funny. He has gotten less offensive over the years. But dont expect your quality of learning to be that great.
Attendance not mandatory, but you can get extra credit for participation. Easy midterm.
I mean hes pretty bad if you like a structured method of learning. Otherwise he gives a lot of personal experience and examples that help explain an otherwise rlly boring topic. Easy marker. He has gotten less offensive over the years.
his classes are a cannon event you'll have to sit through to truly understand. he is unhinged and can go off topic, but will keep you engaged the whole time. The midterm and final formats are MCQ's and open book but will still have to study hard to perform well. overall enjoyed my time in his class Thanks Dua.
Favorite professor in the university.
If you ever wonder what will happen if you give a clown a microphone and a stage? Alok Dua will not disappoint. He equally makes fun of everyone and never follows his own course outline.
Best Professor
He is very great Prof.
alok dua, is one of the worst profs i ever had, do no take his class for hrm, i learnt nothing in his class, there is no slides, and the final is 50%??? which somehow does not make sense for this class.. he just yaps in class, he doesnt teach anything,.
Lectures are all over the place. You will learn more about his personal life than the actual course.
