Great teacher. Explains all concepts in great detail. Always there to help and take questions.
Worst Stats professor ever offered. She's horrible and makes no sense. Sometimes I wonder if she even knows what she's talking about
Loved her. Went into detail and always asked if everyone was okay with the work. Tests based on homework assignments, that is helpful and the test are pretty good. I sucked at math in HS but i got a pretty good grade with her and i actually understood the problems.
Arazyan is a pretty good calc professor. Shes a lot better than my high school teacher. If you have any knowledge of calc whatsoever its so easy. Moves kind of slow so its really easy to understand. She gives a fair amount of hw, not too much and her tests are pretty easy and straightforward.
she's OK professor,, not too boring, not too funny, she does her job though, she comes in, begins teaching lika machine, that's all, overall, course is easy as hell, if you just follow along, and have little bit of calc exp,
Im finding this class to be very easy (1/2through semester)BUT I also took Calculus in high school,if you didnt take calculus before I would think it would be REALLY HARD because the class goes fast.Overall she is nice but I think my high school teacher taught material better.Average1st midterm=75
She's really good. I mean she's not the best prof. but she explains concepts over and over until you get it right even though it may be boring. But the TF sucked!! He didnt know what he was doing at all.
So many problems with this professor. She cannot explain things clearly, she does not talk with the TF and she honestly isn't the most pleasant woman either. She uses examples straight from the book in class but throws curveballs on tests. Clearly does not want students to do well. She is NOT hot.
She is pretty easy esp. if you took AP calc in hs. She goes very slowly and always asks if the class understood. Al you have to do is always do your hw and never miss a quiz/test and just look over your notes and practice some problems for the tests. i recommend her. very easy :) ps: if you understand the material never go to the TA. waste of time
She gives very detailed notes in class and explains things thoroughly, going through many practice problems, making the Discussion a waste of time. She says "Are you guys with me?" a million and one times, and her tests and quizes are quite difficult, given the supposed easiness of the lecture. Expect curveballs on the final, especially.

Lectures are very clear and to the point. Many worked examples that directly apply to quizzes and tests. Homework is not overbearing, and is given with ample time to complete. By the 100th time she says "are you guys with me" in a lecture, you pretty much are. Overall, the class was enjoyable and worth taking.
I hated my Stats 1 class because I had an awful professor, so Arazyan was a relief for the second semester. She was really clear and used a lot of examples to explain the material. She did care whether or not students understood the material. Always reviewed before tests and the final, and posted answer keys online to study from.
"Are you guys with me?" NOOOO. You are a terrible professor. This woman makes Statistics feel like Calculus.
Overall, very straightforward and easy to follow during lectures. She's pretty funny and interesting for a math teacher. Tests were fair, but the final was ridiculously hard, with not one but two questions (out of 5) on something that we had never used before.
Her class consists of her doing the examples on the board in an unclear manner. If possible, avoid.

She goes through material at a decent pace, but she doesn't explain concepts that well. She may seem mean at first behind her accent, but she's nice. Test quetsions are mostly from book/hw. Do the homework and you'll be fine.
If you've had a calculus background this class is extremely easy. Even without the background, do the homework and review the chapters before the exam and you will do well. Her exams and quizzes are very easy and homework is a big part of your grade so definitely keep up with that.
Very straightforward and clear. Fair tests and quizzes. She's nice and understanding and even funny sometimes.
She is straight forward, and very willing to help. Tests are easy if you understand the homework. Homework is graded kind of unfairly though--she picks 5 random questions out of 30 and gives your grade based on those 5.

Prof. Arazyan is the best female teacher i have ever had. She is clear, helpful and straightforward in explaining concepts. It's not mandotory to go to discussion or lecture, unless you need to to turn in homework or take a quiz/test however if u go to lecture and listen, the class will be a piece of cake!
Amazing professor. Very clear and concise and is willing to help
She is pretty bad. VERY tricky on tests. "Let's separate the A students from the B students". Jerk.
awesome professor. i loved her. she's nice and her stories about her son are awesome. it's an easy class if you know study before tests and quizzes although the final will have you thinking you're on an episode of punk'd - still an easy class & she's an awesome teacher. if you need a math divisional, take this course!
Very nice person, tells fun stories about her son. She tries to make everything very clear. You need to do your part by reading the text and doing practice problems. DEFINITELY do the homework. it's graded, and counts! try not to skip class too much, you might miss quiz/test announcements, etc. She is fairly lenient with absences/excused hw's.
At times lecture dragged, but all in all she is clear and uses a lot of examples. I feel if you don't understand at the end of the course it is your own fault. She is very approachable and her notes are amazing. Homework is short and to the point. Posts homeworks and such online, which helps. She also talks about her 3 year old son = adorable!
fair class. but i was wondering if shes gonna let us drop off the lowest hw grade...that would be awesome
So difficult to understand, seems like she hates teaching. If you can take another MA class with another teacher..i would advise it.
Confusing and I had to unlearn what I knew about calculus to use her notation. Doing the homework is the only way to learn the material because she goes very fast in lecture. Discussion is optional but helpful. 6 homework assignments that are mandatory and take 4+ hrs. You need to study for her exams and quizes from the HW, lecture, and book.
One word. Homework. She gives homework and if you do it on your own, you shoudl do well. no need to go to class unless you don't have a clue about calc. Everythin is done from the book excpt ex's. they respond to the hw. hmwk is graded weirdly, which also takes forever to do. only 4 problems worth 40 pts are graded, with 50-60+ problms to do total
Very clear in her lectures and always ready to answer questions if you have them. Lots of HW, about 60 probs but she gives a lot of time to do it. HW ends up being worth quite a bit of the final grade. She is understanding and helpful. If you do the HW, the quizzes and tests are easy.
Okay, homeworks and quizzes are manageable, but expect major curveballs on some quizzes and epecially tests. Difficulty shoots up as you proceed through the semester, and a curve is NOT guaranteed.
Assigns a lot of HW problems for each section. Go to lecture though, since she does some of them in class. Sit in front too becuz it's hard to understand her from the back. Tests aren't that bad as long as you do the HW. TA was horrible, don't bother going to discussion.
Not a hard class as long as you go to lecture, the course material gets harder and more confusing as the semester goes on, put effort into homework its graded and can help your grade if you bomb a quiz but if you do the homework that shouldn't happen she assigns so much of it you get good practice
She is a very friendly person. She seems mean but she really isn't. She moves through the material EXTREMELY fast. tests are based on hw problems so it is in your best interest to do and understand hw problems. goin to lecture is useful only b/c she does alot of problems, some of which are in he hw..other than that lectures are pretty useless.
Generally easy class, but not very understanding professor. I got As on everything but one test and got a B+ for the class. She doesn't curve anything higher than a C.
I aced high school calc and yet I got ripped off in this class. If you learned calc already, she makes you relearn it her way. Also the homeworks is weighed WAY too heavily. She takes off points for anything and never does it consistently.
HOMEWORK HOMEWORK HOMEWORK HOMEWORK HOMEWORK HOMEWORK it's basically free points, ask her or the discussion TF to work the problems. good practice for the quizzes, tests are a little bit harder than the quizzes. Start off strong, do well on the first few homeworks and quizzes and your grade will be solid
i had never taken calc before her class, so for me it was tough. for most kids it was easy cuz they took this course rite after high school and it was an easy A. her methods of grading suck. she would look at my work and say i dont know what you did here. basicly if your good at math you could take arazyan, but there are way better teachers.
Very clear about what she wants you to know. Best part is that she does out a lot of the homework questions so that you actually learn how to do the problems rather than just stumble along in the course.
This class requires the most ridiculously long HW assignments only for four problems to be graded. In addition, she gives four quizzes (They each only have two problems). Unless you want an incredible amount of busy work, don't take this class with her.
Lectures are clear and she asks if anyone has questions about anything to be clarified. If you go to lecture and do the homework (a good amount of problems to do in 2 weeks) you will do well. There are 4 quizzes, that she warns you of and what will be on it, so it's clear. Exams are straight forward. If you do the homework the exams will be easy.
Pretty easy class, just need to keep up with the work and you are almost a lock to get a B- or higher
People have mixed feeling about her, so do I. At times she is energetic and truly a great professor and means well for her students, at other times not so much. If you have already taken calc before, and do the homework your solid for a B+ ...her test/exams have some intense questions and the TF is useless so dont bother asking questions at dissc.
She's a pretty nice woman, very helpful in office hours. I suck at Calculus, and I ended up doing okay. Do the homework and you'll do fine - warning, she curves at the end of the semester instead of after every test, so don't get too disheartened by midterm and quiz grades.
She does carry a thick accent but attending lectures are vital to comprehending her style of solving problems. She is very straightforward and is willing to help her students at all times. If you've taken Calc before, this class is a breeze. As long as you solve the hw problems, you'll do well on the quiz and her tests are fairly simple as well.
Definitely the most boring, slow class in calc out there. Her lectures are usually pointless, as she simply states whats already in the book. Exams are all based on the HW she assigns, but dont count on that for all the quizes - some really tingle your brain. Its an okay class, especially if you know the material and dont feel like goin to lectures
She has her lessons planned out to the last second. She asks for questions often, writes very neatly and in a comprehensible order for nice notes. She has quirks such as erasing the board as cleanly as possible and dotting after every equation. Overall, great professor for an intro to calc class. Attendance not mandatory!
There's something about this class... Prof. Arazyan is not a good teacher. Everything she says comes from the book. Doesn't clarify much. She tends to throw curveballs on tests/quizzes. I got a C in this class, and I've received A's in Pre-Calc/Calculus prior to this course. If she was straightforward with her exams this would be a decent class.
Arazyan rocks. She has a crazy(/cool) accent. If you don't understand something in lecture, she's always helpful during office hours, and she's very nice. Some of her tests were difficult, but she curves everything in the end - I got very low grades on tests and ended up doing fine. Crazy curve.
Calc I was great, in a small classroom, she had great teaching style. Calc II was terrible: huge lecture room, bad for her teaching style, too "caught up" in what she was doing. She does have an accent, so sit close and listen closely. I recommend going to lecture, but you dont have to every day because she follows book dead-on. Good professor.
She's a good professor, but the only problem was the class size. If you took the time to go to office hours, she'll help you out. There was a good amount of homework, but all calc classes have homework... She doesn't grade homework, but you should do it because tests are based on it...
She prepares very well for lectures, and follows the textbook directly. Explanations of concepts are usually good, and she gives very clear instructions for processes for solving problems. Do the homework and ask questions, because the quizzes are based mostly on that. Exams were straightforward and not any harder than what we covered in class.
This class is so boring. She says "how are you guys doing" and "are you with me" more than anyone I've ever met. I did not find her to be a good teacher at all, and I took calc 1 & 2 in high school. I would NOT recommend anyone taking her class. The class is honestly not bad if you put the time in to study, but it is so boring!
I liked her a lot. I had her for both Calc I and Calc II. I got an A- in Calc I without trying and I got a C- in Calc II trying twice as hard. She's a good teacher, but Calc II is unnecessarily hard.
Prof Arazyan is an awsome teacher. There are no surprises on the quizes or tests and if you do the assigned problems and go to the lectures, you are sure to do fine. People complaining clearly just didn't try or did bad. Not done with the class yet but more than half way done, and I like calculus a lot more than I once did.
Needless to say I loved her as a teacher. Good quizzes. Exams could be shaky but do homework and you will be fine. Go to her office hour and get to know her. She is a very nice lady -funny sometimes- and helps you with concepts you don't understand. She made me like calculus a lot! and i didn't take it in high school. Take her for MA 123 if you can
Arazyan is generally a nice person and very willing to help you, especially if you go to office hours. Her accent can be hard to understand at first, but you get used to it after a few classes. She doesn't do very many proofs in calc 123, which depending on your learning style can be a good or bad thing.
She is a very nice lady, but I was unable to learn from teaching style. It is very hard to understand her, but she is very helpful if you meet with her after class. Even so if it is possible, I avoid taking her.
Arazyan is pretty chill. Quizzes are straight forward. If you get the basics you'll do well. Plus she gives you plenty of time on tests. I'd recommend this class for a math requirement.
Arazyan is a great teacher! The tests are easy...there are no trick questions and the tests are very similar to what she goes over in class. She's really nice, funny, and extremely approachable. She teaches the material clearly and very well.
A below par professor, bad teacher, easy class. She taught this class right out of the book. Her tests are also right out of the book. If you want an easy professor who ask straight forward textbook questions she is good. No need to go to classes, would recommend going and making limited effort. If you can answer textbook questions you can get an A
The professor teaches the class very straightforwardly. Most of the questions from the quizzes and exams come from the textbook, so it's helpful to do the homework problems. "True story."
Extremely boring lectures. Arazyan commonly made mistakes or forgot portions of the subject being taught, increasing the distrust students had already developed.
Although everyone seems to be praising her, I am not fond. My calc average in high school was a 97, and i am currently PRAYING i get a C. She goes over and assigns the simpler problems but then puts extremely hard ones on the quizzes. I was really excited for this class before taking it, too :(
She was extremely good at the beginning of the semester, but it all went downhill from there. Not enough time to finish tests, no extra credit or flexibility at all. DO NOT TAKE HER if extra credit and flexibility is important to you
arazyan's chill. i try to complain about her class, but that's because im in college. her lectures are clear, hw is always on topic, test/quiz questions are always examples from class, hw, or other quizzes. very easy to talk to in office hours, cares about the subject alot. highly recommend her
Do not take this class if you want to do well. She is really hard and basically copies the textbook in her lectures. She gives an insane amount of hw and if you don't do it, you will do awful on the quizzes that she gives EVERY friday. There is barely a curve if any. I loved calc in high school and had a 100 average, but now im just hoping for a B.
She goes over simple examples during lectures, but throws 4 much more difficult problems on quizzes, which would be manageable if the time limit (20 mins) was not so unreasonable. It is as if she intentionally wants students to fail. I had an A+ in high school calculus with a 5 on the AP Calc AB exam, but my grade now is garbage in comparison.
She goes extremely fast. Calculus is based mainly on limits and derivatives and she covered derivatives in maybe 2 classes. She gives A LOT of homework and you are better off doing it because its helps on the quizzes but that doesnt make them any easier. Her tests are extremely hard. GO TO DISCUSSION
I loved calculus in high school. I kick ass and got credit. Perhaps it was my mistake trying to jump back into calc 2 sophomore year after not taking it freshman year, but it was just too much. This, coupled with limited memory, orgo and cell bio, is not fun. Plus she goes fast and my TF had the worst BO in the world. Had to drop it.
She is the worst lecturer I have ever had in my life. She doesn't explain any concept and she doesn't teach.
She goes everything too fast in the class. I barely go to class, but I get an A in the end. If you can study by yourself and finish all the hw questions. you can do well. Her hw is hard and time-consuming.She is a nice and fair grader!!!
She has a heavy accent, but you get used to it. Class is not too hard, and her tests are straight out of the homework.
Good teacher, quizzes and tests are straight out from the book. It means if you finish the hwk, and do some even numbers one, you should be able to get a good score. Time yourself well, tests might be a bit long IF YOU dont study. Good that she gives exams that she had covered in lectures. Good devotion in teaching, but strict in timetable.
I don't understand why Arazyan has a chili pepper. She is definitely not a great professor, although she is very nice! She lectures quickly pointless lectures, often times confusing herself, gives 1 example (most likely the 1 in the book), and assigns a lot of homework. She just cannot teach. I had a great registration time and wasted it with her.
Everything is easy EXCEPT the final exam. I think that the problems on the final are too hard because the professor did not show the way to solve them explicitly during lectures.also final exam costs only 25% of the grade, so if you do your best on homeworks, quizzes and midterms, you'll be fine.go over all exercises. It'll help. Good luck!
I feel like she's just reading stuff straight from the textbook. most of people in class don't really seem to understand anything that she says. she just lacks general teaching skill. this course goes over stuff super fast so this just adds on to her bad teaching skill. This is the first class I've gotten a B. (i assume no curve in this class)
She goes at an incredibly fast pace and unlike other professors, she goes out of order in the book making it unlikely that one of your peers also taking the class but with another professor will be able to help you. Tons of homework, but only collects maybe three problems. Tests are difficult and hard to finish in the time limit.
Worst professor I've ever had at BU. Completely unreasonable, refuses to listen to the overwhelming class opinion, n is inconsistent with her grading. She was not clear on her formula sheet requirements for the 1st exam n did not seem 2 have specific issues with it, but deducted points for the 2nd exam 4 reasons she didn't bring up 4 the 2nd exam.
I usually get As in math courses, but she is just discouraging and does not see math from the students' point of view. avoid if you can!
She's a great professor. Sometimes tough to understand but she knows what she's talking about and she'll ask how the class is doing if she sees too many blank faces. Exams are tough.
lectures are extremely boring, and can be confusing. But she is definitely willing to help you, you just have to ask for it! very approachable.
Go to classes, she explains everything clearly. But the final exam was too hard, thus make more stress on homeworks, quizes and 2 midterms. Btw, it's not an easy A class. I Recommend to take her classes
Multivariate is a very interesting and useful tool for engineers. Arazyan's accent and lack of versatility are what make this class a bit of a struggle. My grade was hurt by not caring about the final- don't do that. I went from an A- to a B- very quickly. Great course average professor.
Arazyan is a very helpful teacher. Her lectures can be dry sometimes. It is a hard class for non science/engineers. Take 121 it is easier. It is a hard class and requires you to work throughout the semester. She is very helpful, and if cannot make her office hours, she will specially come on other days to help you! Very approachable too! Take her!
She is extremely fast-paced and has an accent. If you've taken calc already, it'd be a fairly do-able class. If you're not a math person, I don't recommend at all; she doesn't explain clearly enough.
She is a wonderful teacher, some people say her accent is hard to understand, but after a week or so it's no problem. She's very helpful and if you ask questions she will do her best to explain. Very helpful and fair, willing to help if you ask.
She is great! I love her. She is very helpful and the exams are easy, so it is not difficult to get a good grade in her class. Take her in Calculus!
Okay. Why are people complaining so much? She is the most straightforward math professor I have had. Everything she explains in class has the potential to be on a quiz/exam. She even puts up example problems on the board. Yes she teaches from the book, but what would you prefer? A less structured lecture?
She explains concept effectively, and there is no problem understanding her accent. Not heavy workload, and the exams are not tricky.
Fellow Terriers if you want to teach yourself Calculus take this teacher. She is EXTREMELY fast paced. You get a ton of homework that you don''t even have to pass in. You have to rely on yourself for everything. Unfortunately I had to drop. I also had a hard time understanding her. Bottom line if you''re not comfortable with math be cautious.
Arazyan is awesome. She goes at a nice pace and is very clear. Definitely not a difficult class if you do your work. I never attended office hours and often skipped discussion (which is helpful if you have questions) and I was fine. The homework problems are great for practice even though you don't turn them in. One of my favorite classes.
She is an awesome teacher-- very funny! She can go really fast during lecture, but if you let her know, she'll slow down and break down the steps. It really helped doing the practice problems. The tests were easy. There were never any curveballs thrown at you. Take her!
Boring lectures, but she covers EXACTLY what is needed. My class notes became my textbook. The textbook I actually bought were for assignments only, I didn't use it to study at all. Like most math courses, don't go into a test without understanding everything. Tests should be easy if you do understand. The final was noticeably harder though.
Her tests are kind of really long. You think you understand but they take you by surprise. She's friendly though.
If she gives the option to do problem sets but requires only a certain number of problems to turn in, don't just do the required problems, make an effort to do the entire problem set because her tests can have problems that she may not have gone over in class. Her tests are also pretty long too if you get stuck in the row reduction processes.
Arazyan's class is by far my favorite I have taken so far! As someone who struggled with calc in high school, she made it very easy to understand. She never puts problems you haven't seen before on the test but it's really important to keep up with your homework and do ALL the problems. Also, make sure you go to the lecture before the exam.
Her tests are long and hard, especially the final. Do ALL the homework problems.
Super fast pace. She reads everything from the book. Her test question is much harder than the examples on the textbook and in lecture. If you are not good at math, avoid her.
I used to consider myself unteachable at math in general. If you fit this description: TAKE THIS CLASS. She explains every step of problems in lecture and organizes topics by number such that they relate exactly to sections in the book. Between the two you'll get it. Tests are hard, but do practice problems and take good lecture notes. She's great!
Arazyan was a great teacher. However, from what I've seen, she seems to be the hardest professor for MA 121. She doesn't water down her tests, allow note cards, or give a specific indication of what will be on the test. This strategy works though and I now know more about calculus than I did before. DO NOT SKIP LECTURE!
If you are struggling in her class, just drop it now.
Arazyan is an amazing professor. Lectures are very organized and she pops up a joke at the end of most of the classes. She is an okay grader (neither tough nor easy). However, if you understand the material and do the problems she assigns, there is no reason for you not to pass in this class.
Taking Calculus with Arazyan is a poor choice. First of all, she does not explain concepts very well, and this is not because she is ESL. She also goes through concepts in a blistering pace which is hard to follow. Tries to be funny, but is really not. Exams are very tough and almost no curve (How's life?). If you love math, just show up to exam.
If you just Do Not understand math, but still need to get in your math requirement, this is the class to take. Doesn't take attendance but you don't even need to open the textbook if you go to every class. Tries to give you as much credit as possible. Still hate math but would take a class with her again just for her.
Her exams focus on ability to work with tough numbers/decimals, which is a real shame because you can 100% understand the calculus you need to perform, but get stuck on factoring weird decimals and fall behind (because her exams are time consuming) which can trip you up. GREAT CURVE though! Many students fail which keeps the average low. Get above!
Withdrew once. Thought I could get a better professor but others are worse. First time around averages were in the B range. Second time around averaged were in the D+/C- range. Ended up with B-. She apparently makes it more difficult when she feels like it. TF the first time around gave test problems ahead of time, second time around didn't. GL
Do not take a class by this professor if you don't have to. I took her statistics 1 class (MA115) and thought it would be easy because I took AP stat in high school. Going to her lectures confused me more. I literally only learned in the discussions which are taught by the TF. She teaches the hardest methods and doesn't let you use a calculator.
How could anyone think that her class is hard? She spends half of her class going over example test questions, and she literally tells you what she's going to test you on in lecture! I didn't even study for her final and I got an A! She's also a really nice person, once you get past her foreign sense of humor.
read the textbook and take notes on that, go to discussion sections if you have questions, do the homework, lecture is a complete waste of time I only went to submit homework once a week and left right after because she is hard to understand and explains things horribly, study and be prepared for exams, do well on those and get an A in the class
Professor Arazyan is a very nice person, but her class is just not that great. Her explanations are not very clear and often leave the class confused. If you do take this course be sure to make full use of the textbook (it's actually pretty good).
worst teacher i have ever had, does not teach just rambles whole time and never shows how to solve problems, text book sucks, do not take a class by this teacher it will be the worst decision of your life
She tends to have bad reviews, but I think she is a great professor. She covers topics thoroughly, gives time for questions, and reviews homework problems before you turn them in. She is always willing to help her students out, and tries her best to my calc simple. Most considerate and caring of students professor I experienced at BU. Easy class.
Arazyan is a very clear lecturer and is very great about explaining confusing topics, but her tests are ridiculously hard. Toward the end of the semester, most people had no idea what was going on and she didn't provide much clarity in that aspect. Overall, very clear but her tests are crazy tough.
I took Calc in high school and expected this to be similar and not too difficult. I was wrong. She has a very distinct accent which made her hard to understand and she would just do problems on the board w/o explaining expecting us to understand them. I feel like there are better calc professors in BU and ones that have easier tests as well.
Professor Arazyan makes Calculus easy. She goes over every concept and explains them well. However, the averages on her midterms weren't high. No curves
Very straight forward professor. She lectures on statistics for 50 minutes straight, every class, from beginning to end. Her accent isn't a big deal but I felt her exams were quite difficult in comparison to her lectures. You could probably find a better professor who is a bit more engaging. Attendance isn't mandatory, most people skip until exams.
I hate stats and regret taking 115 over 113 lol, but Dr. Arazyan obviously cares about her students. Her lectures are tailored towards students who learn in a specific way so they really didn't help me much and I had to teach myself from the book for the most part. The tests are doable if you do the homework and practice questions.
Professor Arazyan is not great at explaining calculus very well. It's a fairly hard class and her accent and tendency to go off track makes it even harder. The midterms and finals are quite hard and the averages are low.
Arazyan has a light accent which some may find difficult to understand, but her examples and slideshows are very clear. I recommend seeing her outside of class or at least showing up to lecturing and listening if you are confused. She has weekly hw, like every other stats class. MyStatLab is great for teaching yourself the material, if necessary.
I love her so much I am taking her for Stats next semester too even though it's a 9am . She makes jokes and small talk at the start to ease students and despite popular belief her accent is not an issue. Provides numerous and relevant examples and doesn't expect you to know anything except the things she taught you.
She explains concepts well, but if you're not interested, it can get boring quickly. One big difference between the course and high school is how quick the syllabus goes - if you don't have any experience taking calc before, make sure you listen. Solid choice overall.
Professor Arazyan is nice, but she is NOT my kind of professor. Her lectures aren't interactive whatsoever (for example, doing problems on the board together, etc), and she talks at you nonstop for the entire lecture. Her slides are all directly from the textbook and even the examples she uses come right from the book too. I am a hands on learner..
Nice woman with painfully boring lectures, she just reads off the slides that come directly from the book so you end up teachigng yourself everything anyway
Dr. Arazyan might not be the most engaging Prof but thats not her fault because it's stats and everyone is bored. She tells you exactly what you need to show on the test to do well. The class is not difficult at all even if you don't have a strong math background. Overall very caring and nice person.
The homework for this class was way too easy, the bridge from homework material to exam material was nonexistent. She also didn't have very much availability outside of class which I think was also a problem because if you got something wrong on an exam you could never track her down to figure out where you went wrong.
I would not recommend taking her for Calculus 1. Her homework questions are far too easy when compared to her exams.
Prof Arazyan is a really nice, caring woman, but her tests are not on par with what she goes over in lecture. The final exam was extremely difficult in comparison to the homework and review problems. She tries her best to give partial credit, but her exam averages are a lot lower than other professors. If you want an easy A, take someone else.
Professor Arazyan cares a lot about her students and makes a lot of great small talk during class that lightens up lectures, however, she gives a huge amount of homework and the problems assigned don't accurately reflect what is given on exams. Doing well in this class, especially if you have never taken calc, is so much harder than it has to be.
Very sweet and caring, always stops to make sure you are understanding. Very clear explanations of concepts, but lectures sometimes disorganized. Very easy HW. Accent is very clear. Also brings out her bunny who is adorable. She is great professor, would take her class!
she is very sweet, but not the best lecturer. very clear with examples, but then doesn't provide you with enough to succeed on exams. very hard tests so make sure you do all hw + extra practice problems + read book
She is very sweet and takes time to check in w/ students, but under prepares you for exams, even with open notes tests. HW and class are very easy compared to exam difficulty. Lectures are clear and she explains concepts well, but overwhelms you with info and doesn't tell you what you really need. Be prepared to know everything, even small T/F.
Dr. Arazyan is a caring, sweet woman, but not a very good educator. She reads off pre-made textbook slides and doesn't prepare us enough for exams, which are worth 25% each in MA115. Homework is not worth enough for the amount of time it takes up. Lectures are boring; thankfully attendance isn't mandatory. Choose someone else for stats if possible.
COVID UPDATE: Lectures recorded and posted. Very basic calculus. Class notes relevant. Exams taken online, test day assigned but take it whenever, open note, not recorded or monitored. She always told us exactly which types of problems would be on test, and were (different numbers) but the same as the examples did in class. So nice, loves questions
Prof. Arazyan is extremely sweet and funny during her lectures. She's always willing to help if you ask for it as well. There is only one homework assignment at the end of each week so the workload is light, but the exams are noticeably more challenging than other professor's exams. Nothing too challenging though!
she is literally the sweetest lady ever. her lectures are very clear and she will do any example problem you want, just have to ask. no curve though, so pay attention. minimal homework, just get it done. if you put effort in (attend lecture, take notes, do the optional practice problems) should be an easy class.
Really nice professor. She helps students get ready for exams by going over example questions. Homework every week, exams are similar to hw questions. Lectures can be boring but this is a math class.
Dr. Arazyan is soooo sweet and caring. Go to her office hours if you take her. However, she's not the best lecturer. She reads off of pre-made Pearson lecture slides and the classes are pretty boring and dry. Very exam-heavy; they are worth 25% each, and the final is 30%. Good lecturer but take someone else if available.
Prof Arazyan's lectures aren't the most exciting since it's math after all. However, her explanations are clear and intuitive. She only sets 3 homework questions every week which is very little. Her tests are slightly harder than her lectures but nothing nobody can't do.
She was a great professor-hilarious and managed to recognize every student in the lecture (I took the class in person in 2019). Something she did that no other professor's ever done that I really appreciated was that she told us the approximate minimum grade we should've gotten on the first exam based on the curve to be on track to pass the class.
I dont know why she doesnt have a better rating, she doesnt just read off the slides like I saw one of the other comments say. She clearly explains the material and uses examples. I dont even like stats and I thought this class was an easy A, especially considering it doesnt really take any studying compared to most STEM courses.
She is a really good professor, definitely very knowledgeable. However, lectures are kinda dry. Graded by: 10% textbook problems 10% online HW problems 25% first midterm 25% second midterm 30% final Not a very difficult class. The material builds on each other. Just make sure to keep up with the material.
Professor Arazyan is really an amazing Professor. She cares about what you learn from the course instead of whether you get the correct answers for the exam. All the grades are fair and resonable. She make linear algebra esay for understanding.
I took Professor Arazyan for MA242. Linear algebra is a difficult course in that it's very unlike other fields of math, so the course by definition is very tricky. However, Dr Arazyan was so kind and always dedicated a ton of time to questions, and was always willing to explain again until you understood.
Professor Arazyan needs to improve on her teaching skills. She gives very little homework, and none of that prepares you truly for the midterms because the tests are way harder. Also, she likes to speed through everything. So if youre ready to use Khan Academy the whole semester and teach yourself everything, take the class!
She is such a sweet lady but if you are the type of student who needs to do math to learn it, I would not recommend taking her class. She reads off of the lecture slides and goes over what she is reading but doesn't review practice problems or homework. 3 tests make up 85% of your grade so if you are a nervous test taker, pass on this class.
Professor Arazyan is knowledgeable in the field, theres no denying that. She provides good examples in class, but she doesnt provide enough resources to properly succeed in class. TA hardly spoke english, nor was he coordinated with Professor Arazyans lectures. 80% exams, 20% homework. Tests are significantly harder than homework or class work.
This class was the absolute worst. The midterms are nothing like the homework. I did so well on the homework practice problems, but absolutely flunked on the midterms. Grades are based heavily on the two midterms and final which I think it absolutely stupid.
Dr. Arazyan is nice and all but does not provide nearly enough resources to succeed in her course. The TA could hardly speak English and was completely unhelpful. The tests are weighted 80% and are significantly more difficult than any class example or homework problem. She goes through material too quickly and does not provide clear explanations.
I hated calculus until I had Prof Arazyan. Kind, passionate, engaging, VERY intelligent. Will help you if you just ask! Attendance is technically not mandatory, but passing w/o attending won't happen unless you're well-versed in calc. Also, you can tell Prof Arazyan genuinely wants all of her students to succeed!
If you have no experience in calculus or pre-calculus, DO NOT take her class. She was very difficult to communicate with and her lectures were hard to follow. If you want to pass, you have to do well on the exams since the exams are worth 80% of the grade.
I would say if you don't have any background knowledge about calc it will be very hard to understand. She assumes that everyone understands and skips over the little things that would clear up confusion. Also the TA didn't really help either since they were not coordinating. Just make sure you do the practice problems and use khan academy.
Arazyan is decent. She understands her stuff and explains things somewhat well, and is always available for questions. If you don't like math you'll have a hard time. 80% of the class is midterms and finals, and the midterms only last 50 minutes. I nearly failed because I'm terrible with short-timed tests. PRACTICE ENDLESSLY to go faster on tests!
Her grading system is one to be avoided. She only gives 2 tests which count for 50% of your grade and a 30% final which you have a 6-week gap between. She does not offer extra credit and the test are much harder than any of the homework or lectures.
Professor Arazyan is a very nice lady, she is caring, and her lectures are very interesting. However, when it come to testing, you will need to study on your own (DON'T JUST REFER TO THE NOTES, YOU'LL FAIL). Midterm 1, and Midterm 2 are 1 month apart, and these are a lot harder than the HW. Please, if you want to take her, learn Calc by urself 1st.
i think people on here forget this is an obvious weed out course. Yes its test heavy and yes youll have to put in some time on your own, but overall her lectures are extremely helpful and give a great outline of what will be on the test. The MyLab homework is also a fantastic tool to study and overall i dont think this class is anything unexpected.
She's very nice and the materials are easy to understand during lectures but expect it to be harder on the test. The majority of your grade is the midterm (2, each 25%) and the final (30%) and if you fail them, you'll fail the class. If you haven't taken calc previously or don't understand/like it then this course will be hard for you.
Prof was decent. It is very easy to get lost during lectures, but if you took calc in hs or read the textbook before class you'll be fine. This class was easy for me because I took calc my senior year, but I also stayed on top of the sections and I would read the textbook and do all the practice problems. She gives all the resources to do well.
I think Professor Arazyan is a really nice person but her class is extremely difficult. I took calculus in high school and I found this time around harder than the first time. Her exams are extremely difficult but she does curve at the end of the semester.
Greatest and nicest Instructor I have ever had in my whole life. Lecture comes with a little side jokes, exam are slightly easier than the practice problems that she provides on the text book in my opinion. Just come to the lecture, finish every assignment on time, and do all the practice problems that she provides on the syllabus, ez A.
Very nice person, best stats professor at BU in my opinion. Lectures are incredible boring and slow and homework is tedious and makes me want to pull my hair out not going to lie... Exams are rough but stay on top of the lectures and assignments and chug along to the end and you'll do fine. Ask her about her bunny! she feeds it cranberries :)
This class wasn't so bad (and I wouldn't consider myself a math person.) I took calc in high school so I did have a little background, but as long as you attend lectures and do the homework you will be totally fine. She outlines what will be on each midterm/final the lecture before so you can know what to mostly expect.Ask questions- she will help.
Arazyan is a good lecturer, but she does go through material pretty fast. I took calc in high school, so I was able to do pretty well, but people who don't have that background tend to get lost, from what I've noticed. Expect exam questions to be harder than homework.
the class is easy and she provides recording during COVID, I never go to class but still get an easy A since she just simply read the slides. the exams are easy as long as you know how to figure out the process with a calculator.
Great teacher. Gives you all material necessary for tests (literally spells out whats gonna be on the test) and gives homework that is actually useful for them.
Keep at top of the materials and you'll be fine. She is very caring and always available. Also willing to explain any question in or after class. This course is test heavy because it's just mathematics so what type of participation do you expect. As of exams I can't say much but they are similar to the homework. Won't say avoid. It is what it is.
Overall, Arazyan is a very good professor IF YOU HAVE TAKEN CALCULUS BEFORE. She lectures through giving a ton of examples, which makes sense for students with calculus knowledge, but can be hard for new learners to grasp. Her exam reviews are amazing, as she spells out exactly what's on the exam, but BEWARE that no calculators are allowed.
Really wants everyone to succeed. Outlines everything you need for the test beforehand. Very good!
Although I struggled to keep up in this class as I had never taken Calc before, Professor Arazyan made me love math again. We moved through material quickly which was stressful, but Arazyan's funny jokes and care made the class enjoyable. Would 100% recommend this class for Calc IF you have taken calc before.
Arazyan is a good professor if you had prior calc knowledge before this course. She provides several examples but she assumes everyone knows the basics of calculus. It is very test heavy (Midterm 1 25%, Midterm 2 25%, and Final 30%) so your grade is determined by few assignments. Overall not terrible but it was difficult to raise your grade.
The lecture can be a bit dull but if you attend she literally outlines exactly what will be on exams and what you have to show work for to get partial credit, which is incredibly helpful. Exams are very fair and reasonable.
Lectures can be boring but she gives pretty good exams that are not too easy but not too difficult. She gives really good review sessions and explains what she expects from you. Her exams don't have any surprising problems and they are manageable.
I rarely went to lecture following the first midterm and was still able to pass with a much higher grade on the second one. Just do the weekly homework assignments and utilize MyLab's study guide, and you're pretty much set! Her grading is very reasonable and she applies points simply for conception even if your answer is wrong. I'd recommend!
The final is really hard, but going to lecture really helps and she does explain the concepts in pretty simple terms.
She is good professor, she tells you whats going to be on the test exactly, and she is accessible outside of class.
Very easy class if you show up. Most people do not show up and just learn through the notes and textbook. Homeworks are posted weekly and do take a while, but they count for 20% of the grade so it is fine. The midterms are not all that challenging as long as you pay attention. Teacher does a good job of explaining if you show up.
if you haven't taken calc before at all, you may find the class difficult like I did. 80% of the grade is just the exams. homework is doable and mylab is VERY helpful. i got a wonderful TA so he made it easier to learn. prof can go kind of quickly at times but she curved the overall grade by a whole letter so that was nice.
Show up to class! You will find the lectures being way more straightforward. Arazyan is a very nice lady and strongly encourages questions, and students will never few dumb if they get confused. She also tells EXACTLY what will be on exams and guide you through all the problems in great details. Maybe not the most engaging, but definitely helpful.
Her lecture is boring. Exams count for 80%, but she gave great review sessions before each test. The average of the first midterm is 80, for the second midterm and final the average is only about 70. I never went to her lecture but still receive an A. Just make sure submit each homework on time and follow the study guide on MyLab you'll be fine.
Try not to say mother challenge, level impossible.
Her lectures are heavily practice-problem based, but I really like how she is always super receptive to questions.
Her lectures are the best thing to go to if you want to do well, however, she sometimes overexplains things or explains them TOO technically/perfectly. She sounds like a textbook sometimes, but not in a bad way, just like she knows a lot about calculus. Not all the time but it happens. Fun character, would take again :)
how could you not say mother like that's mother... all jokes aside i adore her and if you go to the lectures and try on the homework you'll be fine (and this is coming from someone who hasn't taken a math course in 2 years) she lets u know exactly what's going to be on the exams and is overall very helpful!
Her level of willingness to take questions already exceeds most mathematics professors here. Frequently asked for questions, always begins with "Good question," and very willing to re-explain if anyone is confused. Lectures may be boring but it's not her fault. Tests are not easy but not hard either as she holds useful review sessions before exams.
This course is DEFINITELY test-heavy, but as long as you are paying attention in class and are up to date with the homework assignments, there's nothing to worry about. Arazyan is super funny and she'll make sure to keep you engaged with jokes and whatnot. Pretty standard course, make sure you are attending class (it will be so much easier).
Professor Arazyan is clear and engaging in lectures, though the class is test-heavy. Using unstuck study alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the material and ace the exams. Definitely recommended for math-savvy students.
She is funny, BUT her lectures are fast. If you took calc before it should be easy, but the class is as expected. Take it, but you have to study...
THE BESTTT. I literally hate ALL type of math but honestly she made all the topics so easy to understand. 2 Midterms and 1 Final which are honestly very easy to do IF YOU GO TO LECTURE!! She goes through so much during it and it will help a lot with the weekly homework's and if you need to review for the exams! Love her!!
Loved her!! She makes these little awkward jokes in class which is so silly. She can go a bit fast but don't hesitate to ask her to slow down or any other questions! She's very thoughtful in that sense. Although she has notes on BB i suggest going to class for exam prep
Just do what she asks you then easy A. You are not even required to attend every class, her Pearson Lab will teach you everything you need.
She is funny and does a great job explaining difficult calculus topics. Even though her exams are a bit challenging, she outlines each question she will ask in her reviews, making it much easier to study. The grade breakdown is 20% homework, 25% Midterm 1, 25% Midterm 2, and 30% Final. Highly recommend. She is mother.
Motivating and compassionate professor. Lectures were extremely straightforward and understandable. Gave incredibly comprehensive reviews for all exams. Literally mother.
Nice and passionate professor.
There are only 2 exams and a final and together they count for 80% of the grade. The worst part is that the problems on the midterms and final were nothing like the problems on the homework, or the ones she did in class. The exams also didn't reflect any level of learning in the course. How important each subject was on the exams wasn't conveyed.
She is very sweet, like a mom. Always asks how we're doing and if we understand the material. It's your typical calc class. She moves through stuff relatively fast so it might be slightly challenging if you haven't taken calc before. She does many examples in class, and problems on exams are very similar to those examples, as well as the HW.
I wish I got the chance to know Prof. Arazyan better. She is genuinely a very sweet person and a very organized lecturer. Has clear expectations and outlines the exam the class prior. Def recommend taking math courses with her if you could.
Prof. Arazyan is super nice and cares deeply about her students. Definitely go to her office hours as she will explain problems very well. Her teaching style though is hit or miss. For some it's really good and for others the material just doesn't resonate with them. Definitely study for tests as those make up the vast majority of your grade.
Arazyan is a good professor. If you've taken calc before, following her lectures is not that hard. Her lectures are true stories though. Homework assignments are a bother. It takes hours to complete some assignments. The issue I have with her is her exams. She's alright if you're good with math exams but if you can, just take a different professor
Her class is completely pointless, there is no reason to go to her lectures. I hope you dont have a disability because she does not care. She is extremely difficult and inconsiderate to all of her students. TAKE SOMEONE ELSES CLASS.
I've never taken stats before but Arazyan's class was reasonable and manageable with some effort. Homework assignments take some time to complete but are extremely useful to prepare for exams and thoroughly understand the content beyond lecture. Arazyan is really nice and very willing to explain things until they make sense, so go to office hours.
3 exams that make up 70% of your grade and a cumulative final. She always tried to stay engaging but I found every lecture to be boring and she didn't explain some concepts in the best way. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CLASS IF YOU DON'T HAVE SOMEWHAT OF A BACKGROUND IN CALC
Professor Arazyan is truly one of the best professors I've had at BU. Not only is she the funniest person, but she really displays great knowledge and passion for her job. The material is DENSE!! Having taken calculus before I found that this class really helped strengthen my understanding of subject. Attend discussion, its optional, but so helpful
She gives very fast paced lectures, but you can keep up by using the notes she posts of last semesters. She's super nice and genuinely cares about students. Tests can be hard, but the discussion PSets can be very helpful. Can be a challenging class if you've never taken calc because of the fast pace, but put in the effort and you'll be fine.
Really feels like she wants you to fail with how the grading system is set up. 25% 2 exams and 30% final. Homeworks take a while. Never got much out of her teaching style but thats subjective. I wouldn't recommend taking this course as one mistake can really hurt not just your grade in this class but your gpa as a whole.
If you took calc in High School, this class shouldn't be too hard for you. If not, then this will probably be a difficult class. Arazyan is a great person, and it helps a lot to go to lectures. DEFINITELY make sure to do your homework and study for exams, the grading is strict and based on ONLY homework (20%) + 2 midterms (25%) and a final (30%)
I have always struggled with math, and I went into this class with a lot of anxiety about it. I had never taken calc before. Her lectures have such a kind and warm vibe too, which is such a stark difference to my math teachers in the past. As long as you attend all her lectures and take notes, this class will not be difficult.
I wouldn't recommend this professor if you're looking for someone caring or compassionate. I had a serious medical emergency the day before the exam and had to be taken to the hospital. I provided a doctor's note, but she refused to let me make up the midterm. Instead, she combined the midterm and final into one grade, which I felt was unfair.
Her office hours didn't work for my class schedule and, multiple times, she turned down a request by me to meet outside class. Lectures are fast paced but she's available before and after for questions. Tests are pretty fair and the review sessions are accurate for the content represented on them.
tells u what will be on the exam so you can study better, has light homework but to succeed, you need to show up to ever lecture as she doesnt record them and you need to practice the concept after learning it as cramming before the exam might work but this will guarantee you be great at math
Overall, her teaching just really isn't strong. There's not the biggest benefit to attending her lectures, although there are times when she does explain things well. She does her best and clearly is trying to be as accommodating as possible. The biggest benefit of Arazyan is that she is a really nice grader with plenty of extra credit.
she is very nice and she tells you what exactly will be on the exam the lecture beforehand.
Difficult class, lectures can be at times difficult to follow but the material is presented and explained well. The tests are very difficult but she gives a lot of partial credit and curves depending on how the class does at the end of the semester
Attendance is not mandatory but I found that I learned a lot more in lectures rather than self-studying. Homeworks are long and take hours, but I personally enjoyed the workload as a math lover. Exams are difficult and require exceptional conceptual knowledge of topics, however she is extremely generous with partial credit. Love her personality.
attendance not mandatory but those who go to her class succeed more than others, do all the homework, she tells you what is on the exam beforehand so you know exactly what to study. overall, not that bad of a prof but maybe it is because i had history with calc in high school. keep up with the lectures and homework and you will be fine
Dont take this class w Araz unless u have to. Exams are difficult, lots of homework, inefficient & boring lectures. She gives a lot of partial credit in FRQs on exams but no leniency on homeworks if its late. Good luck 😭🙏🥀💔
Her lectures are painfully boring and hard to stay engaged in. Exams vary by professor, which is surprising for a standardized course, and hers are by far the hardest. She packs the most questions (6 with many parts) into 50 minutes, making them nearly impossible to finish, when time gets called; not one person stood up and no one finished early.
her lecturing style is really interesting, u definitely have to pay attention in class if you want to get good notes. other than that, this class was really not hard and shes super funny! clear guidelines of what will be on the exams and the homeworks are a lot but they are super helpful when studying.
She is genuinely terrible lecturer for Stats. She just mumbles over the slides and describes exactly whats on the slide rather then explain the concept. All stats sections have 2 HWs a week, and her exams are more difficult than the other professors. If you can avoid her for stats do. Great Calculus professor though.
She is very clear at explaining what will be on the test. Make sure to attend lectures to get the most out of the class, she ofter goes over problems that will be on the homework or on the tests. Make sure to do the homework on time!
Her homework & test prep system is one of the best I have ever experienced (she literally tells you what is on the exam question by question). Could be difficult to understand if you are unfamiliar with the topic, but she definitely cares about you and wants you to succeed. Exams have a really extreme time crunch, so remember to practice speed.
Lectures were very informative and heavy. She is hilarious yet still somehow manages to put me to sleep. Lots of assigned homework, but at least it helps prepare for the exams. Goes through what problems to expect on the exam beforehand, which helps a lot.
This section of MA225 did not allow a cheat sheet or formula sheet on exams, even though the course is very formula-heavy. The exams focused much more on memorization than on critical thinking. Many students in this section are worried about failing, while students in other sections are easily passing.
Her lectures were fine. 80% of your grade comes from 3 exams, which are much more difficult than any homework assignment. She likes to add radicals and annoying fractions as coefficients to functions and variables, which takes up too much time on an already INCREDIBLY short exam slot. Skipped class and entirely used textbook, and got a 96.5% total.
Dr. Arazyan is ok, her teaching style is just reading off of slides, which I find not that helpful for learning calc, but she is nice. She spends a lot of describing concepts rather than practicing them. You'll need to do a lot of self learning and practice to do well in this course.
The lectures are completely unhelpful. She was too theoretical and does little to no practice problems and leaves all studying to be done after class. If you did not Calculus before this class, good luck! you will be thinking to drop this class while preparing for her 80% weighed exams. BU shame on yourself
