Prof. Q is a great teacher. He makes lectures interesting. You will have an online homework module each week, but it only takes about 45 min total to complete. Tests every three chapters. No papers or anything. He is a very fair professor. He doesn't take attendance, but if you go to class, you won't need the book.
Absolutely love this teacher. Gave extra credit for coming to class on Thanksgiving, super chill grader. Drops 3 online modules and 1 test grade. Very enthusiastic, loves what he teaches. 7/10 in looks according to my friend.
Great professor. Super nice guy, and he really cares about his students. Can't find anything bad to say about him. Take him if you want to actually learn and want someone who cares about his career and his students. Awesome guy and easy class if you want it to be!
Attendance is mandatory and there are chapter reading quizzes every week but as long as you study the vocab then you'll be fine. Tests are all multiple choice/matching.
Had this professor twice a week at UCF and lectures were always entertaining. Quiz every Sunday on the chapter we learned that week, answers straight forward from the book or google. No actual assignments just the weekly quizzes and 3 exams, the 3rd exam is also your final. Pay attention and study some, you should pass the class.
Professor Quackenbush was amazing! He makes the class so chill and fun! He's funny and unfiltered and isn't afraid of saying his opinion on things but is very intelligent when he gives his own ideas! Please take his class you won't regret it! Also, I didn't buy the textbook & I have an A in the class right now so you don't really need it.
Great Professor! Very funny and will make you look at government and politics with a unique perspective. Save your money and don't buy the book. Attendance is mandatory but he makes class extremely enjoyable and fun. I highly recommend taking Gov. with Quackenbush!
Prof makes politics fun and engaging. If I had the credit room in my degree, I'd do a Poli sci minor because of this man. Take a class with him of you can! He's a fantastic professor and you'll love going to lectures!! Definitely take him again.
Cool guy but goes off-topic WAY too much. The last ten minutes of the 1hr 15min class is usually devoted to lecturing. Easy A, but did not learn anything to be honest.
Enjoyed going to his class. Goes off-topic a ton, but his exams are pretty easy and so are the quizzes.
Very nice and funny. I enjoyed his lectures, although they almost where never on the course content. Easy A.
Great class. Would take again. Some students say he goes off topic, but he talks about current events and answers questions that are relevant to the class and course. Some students just want teachers to read slides and tell them EXACTLY what they should know. This teacher wants you to think and apply information. Great choice.
fantastic professor
Professor Q was very strait forward. I missed several classes and still did well on his tests. He says his tests are based on lectures but I found the tests more difficult when I didn't read the textbook because there were a lot of specific questions.
By no means a hard class. 2 tests (MC, T/F, 1 essay), 16 quizzes (he drops your 2 lowest), and 1 paper (2000 words). He goes off topic literally every class. Attendance isn't mandatory and to be honest you can skip his classes, just go to the class before the test and he'll tell you what the essay question will be.
For a Poli Sci professor he's weirdly out of touch with current events. He literally has no clue what the current administration is doing or what the FL legislature is doing - his point of reference is always "years ago". Easy class though. Couple tests, online quizzes and a paper. He brings in guests - the UCF lobbyist and Supervisor of Elections.
Prof. Q is extremely nice. He gets really off topic during lectures and going to class isnt really necessary but I did anyways because I found the class interesting. Hes a fairly easy grader esp. on the 1 term paper. Weekly quizzes are pretty simple 20 questions. Hes responsive and cares about his students!
Get ready to study! One of my favorite teachers. Hilarious, loves to tell stories, and is very clear with his explanations. If you take him make sure you REALLY STUDY. Tests get progressively harder each time!! He gives homework but its an easy A and you can redo the homework until you get 100! Final is cumulative so make sure you SERIOUSLY STUDY!
He's a cool attractive guy, but very disorganized and talks your head off. He is a little condescending and grades the essays in a tough way.
I absolutely love Professor Quackenbush. He makes basic American Government so easy to understand. Make sure you always go to class because he doesn't post his powerpoints on Webcourses, so class is the only way to get the notes. InQuizitive was super easy to use and accessible to get 100s every time. Take him!!!!
Class was simple af. Quiz every week 20 questions worth 10pt just to keep you engaged. Lectures were funny at times with his rants. Tells real life stories, so he's more relatable for that. 1 paper (8 pages) its easy if you know how to site sources and prefer papers. Quizzes are easy questions straight from the book, which you will use
A lot of what is said on here is fairly true about him. He does take a while to get grades back, which is understandable w/ his child. His grading is fair but sometimes there are glaring issues on the test, sometimes resolving it correctly. I wish he gave a study guide for each test.
If he teaches online classes, definitely take him online. Teaches straight from power points but his classes are super easy. Class is boring so I would just read my textbook because lectures come straight from the book. Caring and funny guy just lectures are boring but tests are easy.
Professor Q is a great professor! He loves to tell his stories but he's a great professor. When it comes to lectures, you can tell he's passionate and well educated. He gives study guides that are almost identical to the tests. The book isnt necessary- but you need to show up to class for his lectures! Awesome professor and amazing person!
His tests and quizzes are awkardly worded. For a class that's so test heavy the tests need to be clear. His lectures are also rough bc he essentially just reads the textbook and tests you on stuff that isn't found in the textbook as well as stuff inside of it.
Take him! He is so funny, not to mention very hot. He goes off topic a lot but it's entertaining. No homework, so only graded on a few things. His tests are pretty moderate, just study vocab in the book and pay attention in lectures. he gives LOTS of extra credit, just for showing up so SHOW UP.
The class is heavily weighed on the tests, but if you study by reading the book, using the flash card modules he posts, and looking over past quizzes, youll do alright. You can get away with not going to class, but I recommend going to the ones before the tests. Sometimes he will do reviews. Also he sometimes does extra credit for attendance.
Professor Quakenbush's class was very easy. We had chapter quizzes due almost every week and they were pretty easy. We had three exams that covered three chapters and he did a review before every exam. He includes a lot of real life examples while explaining the concepts also. He also gave a lot of extra credit just for showing up to class.
From the moment class started, Quakenbush gave me a hard time and was unwilling to cooperate or help in any way. Believes every man for themselves. Delayed my fin aid, barely taught/only ever ranted, but I managed to pull a B. Actually, an 89.5%+. He refused to round or even give a B+. Do not take if you require more help than some powerpoints.
Very respectful, energetic and professional. He wants you to succeed and understand everything that he teaches. There are 4 Exams, and each week you have 20 questions quizzes based on the book that you can get online (preferred). It is important to go to class once he gives extra points for attendance and a lot of information about exams.
I've never been into politics, but this guy is amazing, and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. Exceptionally passionate and knowledgeable about his field. Definitely go to lectures, they're very entertaining and contain information for the quizzes/tests that won't be in the textbook. Also gave out quite a bit of extra credit at random for attendance.
He is very funny, and provides a great atmosphere for debate and discussion on the material and pressing political issues. He offers more than enough extra credit mainly based on attendance which is distributed on random days and when you pick up tests and truly wants to see his students succeed. One essay and four tests, one of which he does drop.
his lectures were amazing, he's a super funny guy that makes the atmosphere comfortable for you to learn. thoroughly explains topics. take notes on the book and show up to lectures and you'll be fine. exams were slightly hard if you didn't study or pay attention, but overall an easy A if you care for the class (which you will, its interesting!)
Here's the actual tea-- he's a great guy. He's quite entertaining. However, he does kind of go off topic pretty often. He just talks a lot lol. For those of us just taking the class for a gep it's a little tough. I stopped going to class bc I lost interest haha, but I still got a B.
Professor Q lives and breathes politics. He is extremely knowledgeable of the information he is teaching and is more than happy to answer questions if you are confused because he wants to help you understand everything. If you perform poorly on tests then this might not be a class for you, but you will learn so much if you study and pay attention.
Prof Quackenbush is a great guy. I've taken POS 3122 with him as well. He is clear in what he expects and tests are mostly from the lectures so go to class and take notes. He is super passionate about his field. 3 exams, a paper, extra credit for attendance. He wants his students to do well and has been super accomodating in COVID-19.
he is a very good lecturer, but often gets carried away. it is really hard to focus in his class because he talks about random things far too much
Took him online , never taught us once , if you had a problem he was very rude through email and act like he knew your whole life story and at the end didn't want to help you at all. All you do is read and take a quiz , so if you really want to know about the subject I wouldn't recommend taking this class. Literally learn nothing.
Overall this class is easy, it is really only a few assignments determining your grade. It is based on 10 easy discussion posts, 1 written assignment, a midterm, and a final. The reason I did not give him a five is that he seems very conservative and if you show a left-leaning bias in a discussion then he will likely dock points.
I had no issue with Prof. Q as far as the assignments in the State and Local Gov class. However, this prof does make it clear what his political opinion is. He didn't communicate with the class much, except to show his own political opinion. If that irritates you, I advise to not take the class. I found it a little unprofessional of him.
This course has only a handful of assignments so if that's not your style you might want to stay away. Only 5 discussion posts, a single 2000 word paper, midterm, and final. Very simple course layout with easy to understand material. I only read his PowerPoints and was fine without reading the textbook.
This class had gone well up until my professor disapproved of my classmates' discussion responses. He was "surprised" at our overwhelming left leaning responses towards COVID-19 and police departments. He went out of his way to privately message all of us too! He also referred to COVID-19 as the "Wuhan virus" and told us Trump should not concede.
Overall good. Remind us that critical thinking is important.
My biggest problem is that this class is completely bereft of any critical examination of the systemic failings of American mass media. Why is it so hated? Why are they never critical of war? Is the profit motive and corporate consolidation bad for accountabilityðics? Read Chomsky's 'Manufacturing Consent' instead of registering for this class.
Worst professor I had at UCF. Not only does he often make factually incorrect claims during his lectures that are easily disproven by a simple Google search, he will deduct points from your writings and quizzes if you disagree with his extreme right-wing views. I avoided taking him again at all costs, I would advise you do too.
Not quite sure why there's so many negative reviews. Maybe it's just a preference thing. All assignments are Inquizitives so it is literally impossible to get less than 100%. No papers. There are three tests total. I will say that you really need to thoroughly understand the content in order to get good test score. No skimming. Listen to lectures.
Good teacher, funny guy, go to class, not that hard
Mixed feelings. I like that he ties the material to current events, but he talks way too much about his own opinions. Class feels like his therapy session when he rants. If you're a PoliSci major, this class will be too easy and boring. Take this to complete a GEP requirement. Quizlet will be your best friend. His personal opinions angered me.
I liked that he spoke from a point of view of both political ends. He respects all views which is rare at a liberal university! tends to trail off during lectures but he gets involved and cares about his students. The class was easy but make sure to study his power points before exams.
Great prof. Cares about his students and is super funny and relatable. I loved this class and how he respected all opinions which is rare at liberal colleges! Best prof I've had!
He was ok. The lectures were pretty boring because he talked about many things unrelated to the subject. Didn't help that the subject was boring either. He is a tough grader when it comes to the discussions, but not the paper due at the end of the semester. Overall, It shouldn't be too hard to get a B or higher in his class.
Very easy class, along with some others he teaches. He throws in his own (sometimes problematic) political opinions in with the lectures, but its really not a huge deal. You dont have to show up to class or read the book. Quizzes and discussions are super easy, along with the paper. If you are a PoliSci major and need an easy A, then here you go.
Offensive & rude. Showed up to class 2 days after coming into contact with coronavirus. Take from that what you will.
He cleaned up what he says in lectures since the protests on campus. Makes the class interesting with stories and jokes. He doesn't upload class PowerPoints to WebCourses, so show up. I encourage you to read the chapters, but it's not necessary to pass. Graded on discussion posts, chapter quizzes, & tests. Tests are taken in person on paper.
Doesnt really teach the material during lecture and a lot of things he says can be easily searched and found false
homework consist of a total of 5 discussion post, weekly quizzes which you need the textbook to get an A, 2000 word paper on a current topic and exams. You can submit a well written discussion post but if he disagrees then points will be taken off. You can go to class everyday and it will be pointless fro the exam because all he does is rant.
I would give 4.5 if it was an option, but opted for 5 bc he's honestly really cool. Don't get me wrong, he definitely can off on a tangent (once a class at least) and if that's not okay with you then don't take him. However, he's passionate when he speaks and is respectful of all opinions. Takes attendance sometimes and uses that for extra credit.
His lectures are never boring and the course is not hard. Quiz due weekly and the answers are on quizlet. Occasionally there is a discussion, but as long as you put effort you'll get full credit. Tests are not hard if you study. Attendance taken occasionally for extra credit - he gave a point on your grade total for every time you were there
Professor Quackenbush is a great professor and a genuine guy. Attendance is not mandatory but showing up to lecture is helpful since he does randomly give extra credit throughout the semester that can boost your grade significantly. Goes off topic during lectures but stories are funny and applicable. Tests are not hard as long as you study.
People dislike him for his more right-leaning views, which seems ludicrous since many professors lean left at the college and that's fine with them. He's a stand-up guy and a very solid professor. I've found him to be funny and easy to talk to. While he does express his opinions, he also allows students to express their own and respects them for it
Goes on rants. Gets off topic often to talk about personal opinions. Talks about his opinions on covid a lot. Grades tough on discussions. Tests are multiple choice. quizzes every week 20 questions. Doesn't post lectures so you have to show up.
Yes he does share his political views, but you are more than free to raise your hand and challenge something he is saying. The class itself is pretty easy and as long as you take good notes on the powerpoint while he's lecturing, you'll be good. Don't get the textbook, the tests are lecture based. Pretty easy A if you show up to class.
To me he's alright as a professor but good as a person. I would like it if he didn't rant as much and actually got to the material. He tests so you can actually know the material and be able to apply it to scenarios. His tests are multiple-choice and matching. Drops the lowest discussion grade which is nice. All quiz answers are on Quizlet.
His lectures are interesting, but he tends to go off topic. Exams are straight forward. Going to class and taking notes is the easiest way to learn the content. Stimulates conversation with students and allows different perspectives. It would be difficult to do bad in this class.
Randomly takes attendance and counts that as extra credit, very heavily weighted (could bring you up a full letter grade). He gets off topic a lot and sometimes we don't get through the whole presentation and he doesn't share the slides with students. The exams are extremely difficult though, but he drops a lot of the assignments.
Prof. Quackenbush provides quality education with a deep level of passion for his subject and his students. He may mention his political views a lot but he doesn't penalize students for not agreeing with him. I really enjoyed how he included current events into his lectures while adding sprouts of humor as well. I enjoyed having him as a professor.
go to class because he randomly takes attendance for extra credit, a quiz at the end of the week based on a chapter from the book and sometimes we did discussion posts. 4 major exams that are multiple choice. He can get off topic sometimes during class so make sure you read the book. He drops ur lowest exam and quiz at the end of the semester.
Professor Quackenbush was honestly a lot of fun! There are a lot of essays, but there were 0 tests throughout the entire course. He was also so lenient on homework, essays, and quizzes. He would drop the lowest 2 of each category! Honestly, he is a joy to be in a class with so definitely take him!
Professor Quackenbush is a really funny professor. He does get side tracked easily throughout his lectures. There were 6 discussion post, 15 InQuizatives, and 3 test (each covering 5 chapters). No feedback on the discussion posts and all of the tests are in person which means you need to buy brown scantrons. Good luck, the test are really hard.
Overall it was an amazing class and would love to take another class with this professor. He is clearly passionate about government and makes it interesting/applies it to real world. Lectures are funny and have helpful notes for exams. There is a very small load of homework, but you have a week to do it and a discussion post every 2 weeks.
Prof. Quackenbush is funny and a great professor! Like others have mentioned, he does go off topic sometimes during class but he still makes his lectures engaging. Attendance isn't mandatory but he sometimes gives extra credit just for going to class (so I really recommend you do!) His tests are easy if you study and textbook is only needed for hw.
Very nice professor, but can easily get off topic and not complete his lecture slides. His tests relied mostly on things in his lectures, but he gave out a lot of extra credit just for attending class. Tests were somewhat hard (mostly multiple-choice, matching, and some fill-in-the-blank), but all other assignments were easy.
Tends to get a bit off topic sometimes, but he's kind and funny. Counts attendance as extra credit and the three exams aren't that difficult, memorize a good amount of the lecture PowerPoints and you'll be fine. The assignments and discussions are very light. Highly recommend Quackenbush.
This class was an auto-A if you show up and do your weekly assignments. Professor Quackenbush gives out extra credit for attending class and it will really make a difference in your grade.
Lectures are entertaining bc he rarely stays on topic. Book is only for hw, super easy. 3 exams, weighted heavy, so study hard for those (all multiple choice). Attendance extra credit ends up boosting your grade 11% if you get all of it, it's so worth going to lecture just for that. Would take again! Nice guy.
Bro would make up verifiable false facts on the spot to support his opinion. Example: he said Alaska had the lowest unemployment rates while it had one of the highest a few of us googled it he didn't like that Easy A take the class only if you're willing to play into his ideological game. Easy to guess what he wants on a test/paper
Complained about being "new" to teaching the course for MONTHS. Incredibly lazy "teaching" style as every ounce of content is from the pervious professor. Required more than a dozen sources for each assignment and has ridiculous discussion requirements, Due a week before the actual date, minimum 3 sources, and 2 responses. Dont bother with this guy
If you can, take another professor. We have had nothing but trouble with him this semester. All of the material is from another professor with their name and everything plastered on all the assignments. The dates are all weird for submitting and discussions are a pass or fail which is not great. There are much better professors.
Attendence=extra credit so GO TO CLASS! His lectures are VERY off topic and useless. His tests are weighted heavy, 80 questions, and mostly true or false with small words that are off. VERY difficult tests. For a GEP I don't recommend, take another professor. Quizlet assignments each week, super easy.
This professor is very biased; if you have any ideas that are very different than his, you will get a lesser grade. He also gives weird thoughts in class that are not true.
Attendance offers extra credit, but lectures often stray off-topic and don't align with heavily weighted exams. The professor is a tough grader. If possible, choose another professor for a clearer and more effective learning experience.
Good luck
Great class and very good lectures. He occasionally goes off-track to add his political views into the topic but helps give you a perspective on other ideologies. He has a way of making the info easy to remember and attending every lecture def helps for tests. Assignments are very easy. Overall hes amazing but get ready for some political rants lol
This class seemed relatively easy & I was interested in learning more about this topic. Unfortunately, he brings his personal beliefs & politics into most lectures. He also changed his syllabus halfway through the semester & docked points off of assignments that didn't fit his beliefs. Avoid taking this class if you're interested in learning.
This class was very easy and he gives a full letter grade's worth of extra credit through attendance. The tests are very easy if you study off of his powerpoints, and his discussion post assignments are interesting. There are textbooks but you can get an A without ever looking over them.
He's a good professor. I have seen some complaints about his interjection of personal beliefs, but I believe this is only noted so heavily because his beliefs do not align perfectly with the beliefs of the average Poli-Sci student. That is a good thing! You're here to learn. It is a fun class, with lots of conversation, and not much homework.
Honestly, Professor Quackenbush is not a bad teacher IF you are willing to sit and listen to every single topic from his point of view only. Just to name one example, the entire lecture on women's rights was tailored to how the movement is harmful to men's rights, He also tried to cite the Bible as a legitimate GEOGRAPHICAL source. Disappointed.
not the worst prof or class I've ever taken but it had its moments. he does go on crazy rants and will say some odd things. gave extra credit for attendance. every week you watch a movie, one class is a lecture the next is a movie discussion. the discussions he is really
Goes on a lot of tangents during class. Attendance is extra credit, but if you don't go to class you'll miss a lot. Definitely not someone to take if you're looking for an easy A.
Easiest most organized online course. He drops 3 quizzes (2 attempts for each quiz), 1 discussion, and 1 module grade—no final. Ended with a 100. Take this class.
Took voting and elections not a horrible prof. Goes on side tangents that sometimes go on for a huge chunk of the lecture time. Discussion assignments most part of the course, with three exams, lowest scored one being dropped. A whole lot extra credit for just showing up (*attendance is not required but, exams are done in person, so just warning ya
he was a funny and nice guy!! such a yapper tho, and often got off topic. he used a program (inquizitive) and you had to buy it, but i think it was like 20-30 bucks. attendance was not mandatory, but he took it like every other week for extra credit, which really added up (so go to class!!) exams were in person and on scantron, so be prepared.
This class was lowkey a waste of my time lol. We never finished our lectures because of the crazy rants that he would go on, but he gave out a lot extra credit. Every week was a long discussion post and we had a big paper in end, wasn't always super clear about why he would take off points, it almost seemed random lol. not bad but wouldnt recommend
Amazing lectures. He tends to go on little side tangents about his personal life. Only one lecture day a week, the other day is just group discussion of films. Weekly discussion assignments about the films, and 1 test a month. One Paper. He drops the lowest exam, and the two lowest discussions. Also, attendance a lot of extra credit so show up!!!!
Very interesting person overall, goes on many tangents. GO TO CLASS, attendance is extra credit and will amount to a lot. He is a very good professor, this is my second class taken with him and would recommend. If you need an easy A take any class with him. The lowest two discussion posts were dropped along with a quiz grade.
This professor is awesome. Go into this class with an open mind, and be willing to hear others' views. Like others have said, he is a yapper and tends to go off topic often. That being said, go to his lectures. I gained about 8 points of extra credit from just showing up to class at the end of the semester. Exams are long. Everything else is easy.
This professor is ideologically compromised. Professors lean both liberal/conservative, but I've never had a professor spew disinformation to their students. He's tried to convince us voter fraud exists despite every study saying the opposite as well as misrepresented why states gerrymander, he seems to like every right wing talking point.
professor shows extreme bias regarding personal political beliefs and goes on irrelevant tangents. Also has poor film choices and the topics of discussion are laughably shallow, listed the Lorax as an option for a film to watch and discuss its message on the environment, a 2nd grader could do it, but at least it's an easy A.
He needs you to know his life and political beliefs, more than he needs you to learn. Spends most of his lectures talking about things that aren't about the lesson. Tangent heavy.
I learned more about his life than the actual course information. He does give extra credit for just showing up. There are four exams, with the lowest-scoring exam being dropped.
This professor is very open minded and presents all sides of every argument. Unfortunately in today's world some students have difficulty doing that. He is very knowledgeable and uses personal stories to illustrate course topics. Some students might call them "tangents" but if you pay attention they have relevance. I recommend the class.
