Very good teacher overall. She actually is an osteologist so she knows what she's talking about. Good at explaining concepts and very animated. Assignments are graded pretty easily and tests are based on lectures which are powerpoint.
great teacher, really entertaining. Some hard material, but mostly very doable. She's friendly and approachable, but don't expect her to remember your name. Tests can be tricky, but you dont have to read the book for the most part since she lectures from it.
Very awesome teacher. She is enthusiastic about what she is teaching and that you understand the material. AWesome, AWESOME CLASS.
She does a good job making the subject as entertaining as it could possibly be. Class is pretty easy if you go to class take notes and skim through book every now and then.
Excellent professor and she definitely knows her sh*t. I learned a lot and really enjoyed the class.
Lectures are a small amount of information packed into a long class.
the most boring class ever, lectures are long and she likes to go off on tangents. 3 tests, 5 assignments, total 400 points. i wouldnt take it
Awesome class. Teacher is enthusiastic. She knows what she is talking about. Tests aren't difficult if you go to class. My favorite class.
lectures are long and sometimes boring depending on what your favorite subject is. Her tests are very fair and homework is all based on coming to class and paying attention. She will apply her work related material into the subject proving she knows her stuff... overall one of the better classes of my first quarter here.
It took me a while to decide what I thought of her, but after a few weeks I came to like her pretty well :) she talks about her dog *a lot* so be ready for that. The tests are hard- but fair. It's all stuff that was covered in class, just be sure to study your ass off and you'll be fine. Overall- good class!
she's awesome, funny, willing to help
She's an enthusiastic/fun prof. She lectures from ppt and there are a few movies and short answer assignments. Her ppt notes seem kind of jumbled and just scratch the surface of a lot of subjects. I'd recommend reading the chapters and going to the lectures to pick up on anything you missed. Tests are semi hard. Some small things you don't expect

I dont know why people like her so much. shes not funny but she tries to be. she doesn't put her slides online and its really hard to follow along in class because its so boring. the tests are kinda hard because shes tries to trick you on a lot of questions. i wouldn't suggest taking this class unless you love monkeys.
Great Professor and super entertaining. Class wouldn't have been so good without her random ancedotes. Tests are not super hard but you still need to study and go to class to get them. Overall a pretty good class.
One of my first classes at Western. Funny, smart teacher. You can learn a lot from her if you are willing. PowerPoints were gone through quickly, a little hard to keep up with taking down notes on them. DEFINITLY had to read the book to get all the info for the tests. Basically I LOVED THIS CLASS AND HER! Plus, she owns a poodles and shows pictures.
young and enthusiastic, a bit kurt when you answer things wrong. Some times too much opinion and not enough fact.
She is very enthuised about what shes teaching so it makes it fun to be there. Read the book! She goes over the powerpoints quickly so keep up with notes! The assignments are easy if you take good notes in class. The exams are hard. I dont know what it is about 'em. They are just hard. Take this class w/ someone or make friends to share notes!
she lets you out early almost every class. She can get off topic easily. The powerpoints/notes and book are very similar. No homework except for 3 assignments & if you take good notes you'll do good on assignments. Tests are multi. choice and T/F scantron. Tests are hard and feels like half the materal on them was never really covered.
Spectacular Prof
This was by far my favorite class at WWU. Professor Rollins is very enthusiastic and really knows the material (and she is a hottie). I definitely recommend this class.
Rollins is always willing to help students after class or in her office. She makes this subject matter FAR more interesting than it could be. Wish I could take more classes from her.
Great class!
Amazing teacher. Class was 4pm in the afternoon but her enthusiasm made me want to come to class. If you have the chance take this class. She works outside of the university so she knows what she's talking about and how it realates to now.
I took her my first quarter here, and she's probably the best professor i've had yet! She was so funny and made the class interesting! Talked a lot about hobbits and if you remember the anatomical vocab she'll love it. I had to walk home in the dark but didn't mind after that class! She even brought her poodle to class. . .Dori Rae haha
love love love alyson! everyday i went to class eagerly and left inspired...
Interesting class; I actually looked foward to going to class sometimes. That's the key, go to class and take notes, follow he study guide for the tests by using the book and you'll be golden...I'd probably marry her.
Her class requires a lot of note taking and even though attendance is not mandatory I would recommend just going to class and taking notes to avoid having to read the text. Her 3 exams are not cumulative, and there are 3 easy small assignments, take the class and attend it and you will get the A.
great class, fun teacher, lots of notes but shes super interesting
She has a definite passion for teaching and anthropolgy. She doesn't post notes on blackboard, but she makes it worthwhile to come to class. Very clear and consistant in her powerpoints and explanations. I would definitely take her class again!
Great experience regardless of whether you have an interest in Anthropology or are just looking for a good GUR.
Really fun class and great teacher. First midterm is a breeze compared the final two tests. She is a great teacher, but read the book once in a while to clarify and get specific details.
A class that has the potential to be very boring with the wrong professor, but is completely the opposite when Alyson is teaching it. Very passionate about the subject, and I agree about the clarity and consistency of her notes/lecture with the test. Good for GUR or if you're just interested in the subject!
I loved her class! She doesn't post any notes on blackboard, so you actually have to go to class to get info. Tests and 3 written assignments are easy, she's really fun and has a passion for anthro and teaching. It's a really interesting class with a great professor. I'd definitely take class with her again.
She is an awesome teacher and I wish I could take more classes from her. Very interesting class for a subject that has the potential to be very boring. I loved going to that class. She's very nice and helpful. Easy class if you keep pace and study a bit. Oh, and she's a cutie :) I know a few students with crushes on her. (mostly girls, haha).
Prof Rollins is great! She is enthusiastic about the subject she teaches and is always willing to clear any questions up during class. I wasn't too inspired by the material but she makes it interesting. Great GUR to take if you need it.
interesting
love her class, she is very helpful and will clear up any questions you have. none of her ppt's are posted so you should go to class. i didn't read the book just went to every class and got an A. she is enthusiastic about teaching the material to you and i rather enjoyed the class. funny and loves her dog, some times she has extra credit ?'s
I LOVED THIS CLASS. Rolllins made it so awesome, because she loves what she does, and she makes it really funny. I enjoyed going to class, even though it was in the evening. Tests aren't bad at all, but take notes on what she SAYS, as well as whats on powerpoint. Awesome, awesome class!
Go to class and take copious notes on her lecture and ppt slides. The book is largely unnecessary. She tries to be engaging, but I suggest sitting more in the middle of room since that is where her focus is primarily. There are a several films which are worth taking notes on. Only three homework assignments that are all easy A's. A good GUR, imo.
LOVED This class!
Amazing professor, this class is very interesting I would highly suggest going to class everyday otherwise it may seem more difficult than it is because she does not post lectures online. Very clear about what she expects from her students.
Great teacher, very passionate and nerdy about the subject without being boring or ridiculous. I'd recommend going to class because if not you'll get to class. Just do what she tells you and you should pull and A or B depending on how much effort you put into studying. If you go to class you barely need the book, but you might as well read it.
Good professor, knows her stuff. Willing to answer questions for you outside of class. Not much homework. Reading the textbook isn't necessary. The tests are all straight off the lecture notes. As a 100 level class, there is a ton of material covered, but just go to class and take notes and you should be fine.
Great class, wasn't that excited to take it but she's really passionate about the subject. A little nerdy but really funny. Really important to go to class, test off notes and they aren't online. Sometimes will put questions on test from a movie or something, but lets class decide (a "reward" for coming to class).
She makes the class pretty interesting!
The class was more interesting than I thought it would be, but the tests usually have a lot of dates, which are quite hard to remember. Tests are multiple choice/true-false. Read the book, because there will be questions on info form the book. Come to class unless you know someone who takes great notes. Rollins is usually helpful and passionate.
She's really funny. You don't need to read the textbook as long as you go to class. Two midterms and a final and she posts study guides. A couple homework assignments too but you have a week to do them and they're easy.
I thought this class was interesting at first but then it just got really boring and irrelevant. She's "nice" but her jokes are pretty corny. GO TO EVERY CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES! Recommend reading the textbook and study super hard for exams because there are a lot of dates, locations and terms to remember!
This was a good teacher. However the hardest part was the exams. Requires lot's of planning and studying time. If your good at remembering names, times, and facts you should be set. Homework was annoying but there isn't a lot of it. Only like 5. Going to class is important and paying attention is necessary. Fell asleep sometimes though. 8.2/10
I got a C in this class, but that was because I was stupid and it was Freshman 1st quarter. She's really knowledgeable and highly ranked in her field. Very personable and receives feedback well. Just go to class and keep up on the homework and you're good.
Such a fun teacher, she made this class very interesting! You do not need the textbook if you go to class, she had one on reserve in the lib which was helpful. The tests require lots of studying, 5 easy homework assignments.
She's very helpful and passionate. Go to class and take good notes. She puts questions from class in tests. A very typical lecture class, only a few homework assignments that are easy if you go to class. Tests are multiple choice and again, easy if you go to class. There's a lot of material so if you miss a class, get the notes.
ANTH 102 is a lecture based class, which is understandably boring. However, Rollins tries her best to make it interesting and succeeds. She is funny and very helpful if you have any questions. There are 5 assignments and three tests, one of which is the final (NOT cumulative!). If you want an easy GUR, take this.
pretty easy class, also really dry, but she livens it up slighty
She does her best to make a lecture class a little less boring. The class is really easy and you really don't need the book besides a couple times so share it with a friend. If you go on option review days, movie days, or stay after when class is let out early she will let you choose some questions that are going to be on test. HW is graded easy.
Easy class if you attend the lecture. One of the most enjoyable classes I've taken. Don't stress too much about taking detailed notes either - it's better to be there paying attention than trying to copy everything down.
LOVE her. She manages to be funny and engaging even with a class of 170 people. As has been said, quite easy class if you pay attention, take notes and review them before the exams. I was tentatively interested in anthro before this class, and now I'm looking into a major because I love it so much. Take this class! Professor Rollins is wonderful!
I thought she was a great professor. I laughed quite a bit in her class. read the book maybe two times. Its important to come to class. for being 5 credits this class was really easy to get an A in. Do the work and pay attention and you will do great :) really fun class.
Rollins made sure to engage as much of the class as she could, which is a feat wi/180 in a lecture class- I found myself laughing frequently. What she lectures in class is most important, and the text is more supplemental. Office hours were right before class and she is super helpful if you have any sort of question relating to Anthro.
Class content was super interesting! She always had jokes that were so not funny that they were hilarious. She gives very helpful study guides and gives answers to exams away in lectures - so go to class! I never read the textbook and managed to get an A.
Interesting, uses a lot of videos, and funny. You have to work hard ot get an A, and sometimes the grading is inconsistant, but I reccomend the course.
Pretty awesome professor. Lots of enthusiasm for the subject, and pretty good help as well. Shame she only teaches 1 class, or I'd take another.
I love this teacher. She made lecture really interesting and REALLY knows her stuff. She is passionate about her work and knows how to relay information to her students. I would definitely recommend her to anyone wanting to take an anthropology class.
I loved how Rollins is so passionate about Anthropology. I would recommend, not buying the book, you don't use it at all. All her tests are from lecture. You just need to study all the little details and the test should be easy.
She is a fabulous professor! You have to attend class because the tests are based on the lectures, really clear when answering questions, super funny, I used the book for clarification but it's not necessary to pass the class if you attend lectures and pay attention to details.
Really clear professor. Very enthusiastic and funny. Really helpful and approachable. Attendance not mandatory, but why would you want to miss it?Take this course. It's a fantastic introduction to Anthropology.
I really learned a lot in this class and am now going to minor in Anthropology because I enjoyed the subject so much and the teaching style was so well done that I could understand everything really well.
I loved Rollins! She's a fantastic prof because she's so enthusiastic about what she's teaching. Her passion for the subject was awesome. The material was pretty well organized and you watch a couple of really cool videos. I really enjoyed this class, learned a lot! I would definitely recommend this class to anyone who has even a mild interest
I loved this class! It was difficult, so make time to study, but it is so interesting and you can tell Rollins is very passionate about the subject. You have to go to class because she doesn't post lectures on canvas. I would recommend this class!
She is very upbeat and fun to have as a teacher. She is also very easy to ask questions and actually tries to help you pass the class.
Alyson was a very fun and interesting professor who had a great passion for the subject! Her lectures are organized and easy to understand, but she doesn't post them online so make sure to go to class to get notes. Overall, she's helpful when needed and I'd highly recommend this class!
Favorite teacher! she made me fall in love with anth specifacly bio anth! funny, goofy, sweet, smart, i wanna be like her seriously shes awesome and the class is almost always interesting
This was my favorite class taken at western so far! I always looked forwards to it. She made this class so awesome, she's super funny and straight to the point. I'd recommend this class and professor to anyone
Class is boring, but that's not her fault. She knows a ton about her subject but she expects us to laugh at her stupid jokes. Not sure how helpful she is at office hours but it seems like her TA handles everything. Was way more excited to take this class than I am to go to it. Lots of memorization and tests are all in-class scantron.
Professor Rollins took a potentially dull course and made it so interesting that I wanted to come on here and give her 2 THUMBS UP! She was very chipper, energetic, and sometimes funny. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND Rollins for anth to any major.
Without a doubt, my favorite professor I've had during my 2 years at WWU. She's enthusiastic, hilarious, and very sarcastic. Her tests are easy if you study a lot for them. Only complaint is that she is a little intimidating and hard to approach
So much fun! I originally signed up for this class just because it seemed like the least boring one to fulfill the GUR, and it quickly became my absolute favorite class. I only used the textbook once, for one of the assignments, and pulled an A by just paying attention in class. Attendance optional, but only if you can get the notes from someone.
Such a great professor, she truly turns a boring subject into something interesting. I WANT to go to class and I enjoy listening to her teach. Is really helpful and has quite the sense of humor. One of my favorite professors I've ever had!
Professor Rollins is great! Her lectures are very captivating and interesting and she's funny too. Only three tests in the entire quarter and five assignments. Attendance wasn't mandatory but she doesn't post her powerpoints on canvas so if you don't go to class you'll miss a lot of important information. Would take another class with her for sure!
So funny, so interesting, so worth it!
She is a great professor! You need to pay attention in order to do well on the exams because all of the questions come from lecture, which she doesn't post to canvas. But if you're looking for a fun class with a fun professor, this is a great option!
Rollins is an awesome professor! She's really passionate about her subject and is very clear with her lectures. She's extremely organized and you always know when something is due. She's an avid user of Canvas, which is always nice. Overall a great professor; however, the tests are extremely difficult if you do not go to class or read the text.
Alyson was my first college professor, and I can honestly say that she's one of the best teachers I've ever had. She's absolutely hilarious, and is a total Anthropology dork. Mad class a blast. The class isn't an easy A necessarily, but it was so interesting that it hardly felt like work. I would recommend studying HARD for tests!
Rollins is super sweet. I took this class as a GUR, and she made the topic interesting and engaging. He lectures were content heavy, so you had to go to class, but she provides detailed study guides so you know exactly what will be on the test. If you ever have to take an anthropology class, I would definitely recommend her!
Such a great professor. Understands her students and her lectures are really useful and funny they're never boring. You just need to show up and take notes to pass. Also DONT BUY THE BOOK you never open it. There's supposed to be stuff on the tests in the book that's not covered in class but I've never taken a test and not gotten a good grade
I loved having Alyson. She is funny and makes lecture very interesting. I would recommend going to class because she adds a lot that is not on the slides and the slides aren't posted on canvas. Overall, Alyson made me really appreciate anthropology. I highly recommend taking an anth class from her.
she was amazing. 170 students and it was never a challenge to keep everyone involved for the hour and twenty long class. She made a seemingly interesting class fascinating! She's really funny and kept me into it the whole time and i really don't like big lectures. Doesn't post slides so attend everyday, but that's not a problem. good looking too!!!
Her lectures are interesting because she using a lot of her experience with current projects she is working. I really liked her enthusiasm; it was easy to tell she loves her field of work.
Easily the funniest teacher I have ever had. She took a topic I wasn't interested in at all before the class and made it extremely enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend this class to anyone looking for a good GUR to take.
Prof. Rollins is great! She really peaked my interest in anthropology with her amazing personality and enthusiasm. I really enjoyed this class! There were 3 exams and 5 assignments, so this class didn't have a big work load. Go to class cause she doesn't post her powerpoint online and study and you will do fine. You don't technically need the book.
She's not the best professor, but she's definitely not the worst. She goes pretty fast through the slides, so get ready to write quickly. Only 3 tests including the final. And 5 assignments that are SUPER easy, you can get them done within 30 min. She jokes around a lot, is pretty funny, but also immature at times. Easy AB. Humanities credit!
I don't like most anthro profs at western, but rollins really was the highlight of my semester. She's funny and tries to make what could be a really boring topic funny and upbeat. The work load was light, and the assignments are pretty hard to do bad on. If I ever take another anthro class, it'll be with her. Show up and pass!
Mrs. Rollins is the reason I changed my major to involve Anthropology. She is an amazing teacher, has interesting lectures and is very helpful during office hours. She took time to get me in contact with the Anthro advisor. Her tests are very specific to lecturebook material and you need to memorize a lot but she is so fun and engaging.
Rollins is a witty Prof who will have you both laughing and 100% engaged in her lectures. She's super into what she teaches, and is guaranteed to get you into it, too. She has amazing stories, is super knowledgeable, and very approachable. I definitely recommend her. Also, sometimes she passes out a sign-in sheet, so you can get extra credit.
This course was really fun, and I wish I could take it over to get a better grade; at the time I was really stressed with non-school related things and began to fall behind. Doctor Rollins loves telling stories about her life she is very funny and loves what she teaches.
Go to class, and you will pass easily. Used the textbook once, so its a waste of money. Only 3 tests all quarter, all multiple choice. Use your notes to study and there is no way you cannot pass. Would love to take more classes with her!
JUST DO IT SHE IS GREAT
Best anthro professor at WWU. Just take her class so that you can see what a good professor looks like!
I loved Intro to Human Origins. Prof. Rollins is very passionate about Anthropology and it shines through in her lectures. She's very enjoyable to listen to. Read the chapters! Go to class and take notes. She does NOT post her PowerPoints online, apart from a slide or two if necessary. Use her study guides and go to office hours if you need help.
I didn't ever think that this would turn out to be my favorite class. Having a 180 person lecture wasn't my thing, but Rollins' amazing lectures kept it far from boring. she doesn't post anything online, textbook is useful & required, lectures include short videos & humor to make class go by. 5 hw assignments, 3 tests total. very straightforward.
Rollins is a great professor. Clear and easy to listen to. No surprises in the course.
She's really nice and clearly smart in her respected field. However, her tests are really hard and the content is very difficult to sit through. I took it hoping for an easy A, and that wasn't the case whatsoever. If anthropology interests you, you'll enjoy the course, but I hated the subject.
TAKE THIS CLASS. Seriously, prof Rollins is amazing. She is so dedicated and passionate about her work, and it really shows in her lectures. I truly enjoyed going to this class and listening to what she has to say. Tests aren't the easiest, but this class is so worth it. I'd take any class Prof Rollins is teaching.
She's wonderful. Anthropology isn't the most interesting area to me, but she made long lectures very enjoyable. Plus she has a great sense of humor, and loves getting to know her students, even in a large lecture hall. 10/10 recommend
Rollins is my favorite professor so far and I loved ANTH102. She made class enjoyable and the topic is very interesting. She loves what she does which makes everyone else interested in anthropology. She's quirky, funny & is good about clarifying. The class is challenging , mostly because it's new information for most people. lectures aren't online.
This was my favorite class at western so far. Rollins is so passionate about anthropology and it definitely shows in her lectures. She doesn't take attendance but her tests are based more on lectures than the book. I didn't buy the book because it's available in the library and you don't really need it.
Amazing teacher! The lectures can be long, but it goes by fast, because the way she presents the information. Really connects with her students and is extremely passionate about the subject and knows how to make the class fun! Wish I could take another class with her! She's great!
I liked professor Rollins a lot, I would have liked to know more about what I was getting myself into with this class. I didn't realize I was signing up to learn how to distinguish between early primates by their dental structures. Would not recommend this class for those not interested in ANTH. A lot of memorization and reading.
Loved this professor! Dr. Rollins is extremely knowledgeable, witty, and overall just great. I was not expecting this class to be so fascinating! I would highly recommend it to anyone. Textbook is far less crucial than lectures. Just show up to every class, take good notes, make sure you know everything in the study guides/tables and you're golden.
She's a great prof who keeps class interesting and who is obviously passionate about what she does. She covers 99% of what you need to know in her lectures (she goes over the important stuff from the book and provides more examples--I hardly used the textbook except for a few assignments) and the rest comes from stuff you go over in assignments.
DON'T TAKE IF NOT INTERESTED IN SUBJECT. Not an easy A. Barely needed text book, her lectures covered 99% of the book. Requires lots of memorization. Professor Rollins is nice, funny, & very knowledgable. MUST go to class. Love anthro so class was fun & interesting. She keeps you engaged & tells amazing stories. Highly recommend!
She is amazing. All lectures are on a very well written power point, and she will does not post or give it out. Go to class, or have a good friend that can give you notes. Tests are very similar to what she goes over in class.
Alyson is such a good prof. She makes the topic so interesting and makes sure to make the lectures funny. I want to take any other class I can from her. She actually made me revisit my interest in anthropology and has made me switch my major. I would totally recommend. The tests have a lot of lecture in them but are fairly easy.
I took anthropology on a whim because I needed a social science GUR and it sounded interesting. I actually learned a lot from professor Rollins and found the course a lot more interesting than I thought it would be. She can be intense but that's just because she's so passionate about the field. Show up and take good notes and you will be fine.
Easy to pass, really hard to get an A. Her tests are pretty challenging, and I studied a lot in this class and averaged a B+ on the exams. We had some homework which helped boost my grade to an A, but the T.A. was kind of a tough grader. I personally wouldn't recommend as an easy class, but I definitely learned a lot, and i'm glad I took it.
Alyson was a great prof. She obviously loves the subject and talks a lot about her super cool job outside of the classroom. Super easy to talk to, and answers questions thoroughly. Her tests are easy but no online powerpoints, so show up!
I never realized how cool she was until my next antro teacher
I really liked Professor Rollins, however I hated the class. She was an amazing professor but the material was really boring. I suggest taking the class if you like this kind of stuff, but take something else if this isn't your style. Rollins does try hard to make lectures funny and I appreciate her for that! She's also super nice and really caring
Love her passion and enthusiasm!
Rollins is clearly knowledge and passionate about her field, but this class was awful. We only spent about two weeks talking about the genus homo. She doesn't post her slides online, so unless you want to read the textbook (I didn't even buy it), you have to show up to class. If this was my introduction to the anthro field, I'd be turned off.
I loved professor Rollins. She was funny and smart and her lectures were enjoyable. I'm an "art person" who thought that an anthropology course would be a drag but it wasn't. Her lectures were clear, concise and engaging. I didn't need to read the textbook at all to get a 90% in the class. Just show up and take notes.
Rollins is so passionate and inspiring that I ended up declaring bio/anth as my major. Her lectures are easy to follow and all the information on the powerpoints and what she says verbatim will be on the test, so as long as you show up to class, the textbook isn't necessary. Make sure you remember dates she gives for species/fossils!
Allison is an awesome professor! The tests are really based off of what she says in class, and she doesn't post the lectures online, so attendance is important. This was never a problem for me though because her lectures are intriguing and she is just a really cool person.
This was one of my first college classes I ever took and it has stuck with me. Alyson is an amazing teacher. She is very knowledgable about her field and is very passionate about Anthro! She goes through the lecture slides quickly and its crucial to attend class to receive a good grade. Attendance is extra credit!
Rollins is literally the best! Really funny and always there to help. She lecture everyday on the chapters of the book that you have read so it gives you time to ask questions about things you werent sure of. If you skip class I do t think shell care but if you skip lab then youre probs not gonna pass.
Extremely nice teacher, who is good at what she does. But class was very hard, not much is in the grade book, so you have to do well on tests, and the midterm. It is a bit unfair that you can show up to class everyday, study a bit, attend labs and still not get a great grade. Do well on the tests because the labs are not worth enough to carry grade
I didn't really enjoy this class but that had nothing to do with the professor and more to do with the fact that I couldn't care less about anthropology. I enjoyed Rollins' way of lecturing although she does get off topic a lot. Her grading on assignments always has a rubric. Her exams are hard so be ready to study for days upon days before an exam
For a level 100 class, you definitely have to study for the tests and go beyond the study guides given. There is a lot of information given but she does a very good job of executing it. I found the class interesting, and if you skip hopefully you have someone willing to take notes for you because she doesn't post slides.
My favorite course I've taken so far. She has plenty of stories to share, and they all pertain to the topics. Never a dull moment in the classroom. Lots of cute videos of chimps. I will for sure be taking her Bio Anth course!
Great class! Prof. Rollins tells amazing stories that all pertain to the subject matter and help to get a better idea of what each aspect of the material is used for in real life. Attendance is not mandatory, but a lot of things on tests come from what she says during class.
Rollins is an amazing professor hands down. I took her ANTH 102 class just as a GUR and I left the class knowing so much about the subject, totally blows my mind. A total perspective changer. Be ready to pay attention to her lectures because she solely tests you on lecture material, making the book optional, but a good supplement. Take this class!
No bad things. The class was interesting and lectures were captivating. Just 3 exams and a few homework assignments so an easy way to get 5 credits.
Hands down my favorite teacher ever. She's amazing and just a really good teacher. The class isn't easy but she wants to make sure you understand the concepts and gives you as much help as possible. I only used the textbook once, otherwise most things are covered in lecture. Highly recommend either of her classes. My second time taking her class.
Exams can be tough if you don't study. She doesn't post powerpoints so make sure to go to class. Only need the book to do one assignment, so you don't really have to buy it if you use course reserves. Hilarious, fun lectures. Interesting materials. Lots of monkey videos
Alyson is awesome! Get ready for lots of cool bones and quirky jokes. Bio Anth is a moderately easy class that does not require a textbook if you take meticulous notes. Study your notes before exams and you can cover the whole study guide - though I did purchase the textbook and enjoyed using it as a resource - it was helpful and interesting.
Prof. Rollins is a fantastic teacher. She obviously really cares about the material and her lectures are never dull. Her tests can have more obscure questions but they are overall fair. You must go to class though, because she doesn't post her lectures online. But, she's funny, interesting, and the class was my favorite this quarter.
Alyson was really funny and kept the lectures interesting, while conveying all of the information we needed for the exams. She incorporated videos and tangible visuals which helped solidify the information as well. I definitely recommend her for ANTH 102!
Rollins is such an awesome person as well as an awesome professor. She cares that her students understand the material and has a good sense of that. I have taken a couple classes with here and absolutely loved each one.
I enjoyed professor Rollins' class. It's necessary that you read and pay attention in lecture, she doesn't post her slides. The tests are kind of difficult so make sure to take notes on more than the slides.
This class is incredibly interesting, it is very clear she cares deeply about her students and her profession. She is very knowledgeable and dedicated to her field. She doesn't post her lectures, but everything you need to know is on the slides she puts up in class (just make sure you write it all down and you'll be golden). Great class and prof!
This class was such a blast. Rollins is clearly a pro at this thing, and has some crazy stories that keep things interesting. It's really information heavy, though, so don't take if your looking for an easy credit. Stay on top of the assignments, show up to lectures, study up, and you'll do fine.
Guys, I was originally a Psych major and now I'm an Anthropology major because of this class. There are lots of lectures and she doesn't post them, but the info you learn is so interesting that going to class is worth it.
Rollins is a great professor! her passion for the subject really shows during lectures. The tests are kind of hard, but all based on the lecture, so take good notes and study. She doesn't take attendance, but she also doesn't put her slides on Canvas so you should go. Handful of easy online assignments, which are pretty simple and she grades easy.
Seriously such a good class and professor. ANTH 215 shouldn't be taken for easy credits, but if you're at all interested in the field of anthropology this class is SO worth it and interesting. Alyson is helpful and informative in lab, lecture, and office hours. I really miss having her for this class!
Her class is amazing! SHe is super funny, gives great explanations, and the labs are very hands-on and clear! I absolutely love this class, it's so fun.
This class is definitely intro level and full of freshman. Rollins loves what she does but sometimes that doesnt translate well to a phenomenal lecture. The writing assignments are graded by the TA and very simple. Exams much harder but doable. Got by in this class without the textbook and went half the time. Good gur filler
Alyson is a really cool teacher. This class is good to give you an introduction to anthropology classes but if youve already taken bioanth and archeology its really easy and can get a little boring. Definitely study for the exams!
Super friendly! She doesnt offer extra credit or post slides online. But, the homework assignments are very straight forward and easy. She moved at a good pace so it isnt difficult to take notes in class.
Aly is my favorite professor I have had to date. Her passion for the subject is what inspired me to choose Anthropology as a major. Before this class, I had never taken an Anthro class and honestly didn't even know what it was about. You don't need the book to get an A but you need to go to each lecture, Aly will make you want to go to every class.
Rollins was a great professor. Some things to keep in mind, attendance isn't mandatory but if you don't show up you will not pass the class. Quizlet comes in handy for this course as there are 3 tests. Every class expect a boring long lecture talking about apes or old fossils, Rollins will make a couple jokes that are corny but still good.
Really enjoyed this class, though if you're not into science it's probably more boring. Everyday is just a lecture, but she is very knowledgeable and good at answering questions. Definitely go to class; she doesn't post the slides and the test material is almost directly lecture material
If you are looking for an easy GUR like I was, avoid this class. The tests are heavily memorization based with lots of biology and history (dates) aspects. Knowing what I know now, I would avoid this class. Rollins is a good prof though and really does care about the material. Most of the stuff is cool to known but memorizing dates pissed me off.
Alyson gives great lectures and this class is super interesting! She doesn't technically check attendance, but she doesn't post her lectures online so you really have to go to class. The tests are not too difficult if you study the lectures and textbook readings. Overall this was one of my favorite classes I've taken at Western!
Rollins is very passionate about her work and always presents in an engaging manner. There are five papers and three exams. The final is not cumulative. Her lectures are incredibly interesting if you pay attention.
The best class I have taken at WWU. Professor Rollins shows genuine interest in the class content and the students. Her enthusiasm has given me a much greater appreciation for anthropology. I made all my friends sign up for this class.
She's very funny and is totally passionate about ANTH. Read the text, go to class, get the notes if you have to miss, but honestly, she's worth it. Really makes taking your last GUR pretty fun.
Alyson pours her heart out into what she teaches, making the course material engaging and interesting. She sometimes deviates from topics but it's always funny or interesting and is at least somewhat relevant. The class is pretty much all lecture based. She doesn't upload her slides so be sure to go to class and take notes.
The online class was definitely on the difficult side, but I sure had fun participating in the online discussions and watching the videos. The tests were VERY hard, I think because all the lectures were on slides, and a physical in-person lecture would have been easier for absorbing the information. I'm sure the regular class is great!
I loved this class. the prof is hilarious. osteology test is really tough, study for literal weeks and possibly pass the test. She is a fair grader. I would totally take it again. almost no homework, just a few quick pre-labs. She is very clear what she expects and gives good notice of when stuff is due. attendance only in lab.
3 exams, 5 short papers, powerpoint are NOT posted and lecture is for frantic and stressful note taking. I thought it was really hard to obtian all the information on the powerpoints. She uses the book as a basis but creates her own material that she teaches from. Its a hard class to take if you are busy. She is not that flexible or reasonable.
Alyson is a strong choice of professor. Her lectures were based around her interest in Anthropology rather than the textbook's structure, and I really appreciated that. However, sometimes she puts questions on the exams that are related to something she brought up in passing, so write everything she says down and be sure to study.
Alyson is one of the raddest profs I've had western. her lectures are always engaging and her love of anthropology is what makes it. The lab component is awesome the one big thing to look out for is the osteology practicum where you have to identify landmarks on 50 skeletal samples in what doesn't feel like enough time.
Dr. Rollins obviously loves what she does. She makes her class interesting, engaging, and relatively easy. The labs are time consuming, but the exams are mostly definitional and fill-in-the-blank. When studying, skim the lecture slides. Can't say for sure if the textbook is necessary, but it helps. This class is a great LSCI GUR credit.
Although I didnt really talk to her she did provide good feedback and fair grading when needed. On all the assignments I only missed one point and she was quick to comment what I could do to prevent that from happening on the next. Overall easy A, with the extra credit I passed the class with a perfect 100%. Great professor.
This class was asynchronous, so no zoom lectures. The assignments were straight forward and easy to understand. There was no feedback on homework at all, only missing points. I learned very little but the content I did was interesting and fun. Wish the class was more involved or in person.
I took her Anth 102 class online spring 21 and hated it. I basically taught myself the material as only one lecture was posted per week (with very very little talking just google slides) and the rest was reading the textbook. Weekly assignments were lazy - multiple assignments were to simply watch a bootleg Nova and write 3 things you learned.
This class was asynchronous, so we read the chapters every week and reviewed the google slides because there was an assignment due every Friday. If you don't like to be self-taught it is better to take this class when we are back in person. She gives good feedback on assignments and it was pretty much an easy A.
Rollins is a good professor, but the workload is intense. I would recommend pacing the assignments and lectures out throughout the week. The lectures online are long, and it is hard to stay engaged. There is also a lot of information in the power points, so it is hard to keep up and retain information. The tests are difficult and memory-based.
favorite prof in the anth department, always an honor to be in her class. wish it could have been in person
easy class and she knows what she's talking about
Professor Rollins is a really good prof, 10/10 recommend at least for Bio Anth. She was really good at explaining things for the labs, and the tests are not difficult at all as long as you did a good amount of studying. She is really sweet and funny and the lectures are engaging. Overall, great professor.
I really enjoyed taking bioanth with Professor Rollins. She is very knowledgeable and funny. Expectations were always clear.
SUPER nice, funny,& very passionate about what she does. she jokes the perfect amount, you'll remember facts simply because you also remember something funny or interesting she said with it. fantastic woman, doesn't talk too fast, great volume& enunciates her words very well. You cant skip class or you'll suffer but you most likely won't want to!
Rollins is an amazing professor! She shows enthusiasm and knowledgeable teaching which makes class very enjoyable. By incorporating witty jokes and a personable attitude she kept me engaged and excited to learn. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the 3 exams that make up most of your grade, but I did well. Just study the readings and pay attention.
I came into this class not knowing a lot about anthropology, but holy cow Alyson made lectures super interesting - you can tell she really cares a lot about anthropology and it's clear during her lectures. Super fun class, if you're taking an anthropology class try to take it with her you won't be disappointed
I've never enjoyed a class as much as this one. I had never taken an anthropology course in my life, and I'm considering it as a major now. Professor Rollins is the funniest and nicest professor I've ever had, even with how many lectures she had I was always engaged. Workload was very reasonable, and exams were easy if you used the study guide.
rollins loves what she does and you can really see that in her lectures. she made a topic i'm not really interested in seem more interesting!!! i attended every single lecture, took notes, read the textbook, and used the study guides but still had trouble with the exams because it was very content heavy. labs were easy and connected to lectures.
Professor Rollins is hilarious and engaging. Her slides are light and her lectures detailed. Always happy to answer questions. Attendance not mandatory but I recommend if you want to excel on exams. Use the study guide closely for tests. Grades assignments easily and allows for some late turn ins. Unforgettable professor. Inspiring and passionate.
Class usually consisted of reading, lectures, and one discussion OR assignment per week. Not too much work. The lectures are pretty good. A lot of students ask questions during lecture that get answered. Sometimes we got a little off topic. I was a little frustrated by the exams though. Some of the questions seemed unimportant to the subject.
i didn't do as well in this class as I had hoped but rollins is a funny teacher and explains things well. some things were on the exam that we didn't have time to get to in the lectures and labs were tedious and repetitive. science is my worst subject so take this with a grain of salt. This class is definitely work, but is doable and rollins is fun
An amazing professor who likes to get off topic during lectures and tell story about her life, it's all absolutely delightful, she's hilarious!
She has a lot of really interesting professional experience, which makes her lectures unique, interesting, and easy to follow.
Rarely went to class and I'm thriving. One assignment a week with three online exams, no midterm, no final. She's a great person and she's pretty funny the few times I went, great professor.
I love Alyson, her lectures are interesting and informative, she's engaging, overall a really great professor. She says the readings are required, but she covers everything she wants you to know in the lectures. As long as you go to class you shouldn't have a problem passing. All 3 tests are online, 5 assignments and 5 (easy) discussions.
I absolutely adored Professor Rollins. Her lectures were engaging and she was very laid back. Very approachable. Although, her labs are a little but knit picky, so just make sure you have all the correct answers. I didn't go to class every single day and passed easily, so if you miss class every so often it wont jeopardize you.
Never had a class with her I didn't enjoy, she's probably the best anth professor at WWU. She loves to tell stories related to her experience and she has such a great personality. Her lectures can get off-topic but it makes class a lot more fun and engaging. I wish she taught more classes, I would definitely take them if I could. Def recommend!
Lectures are engaging and very important for passing exams. Rollins is hilarious and makes the material interesting. There's only about one assignment a week and three exams in total, so it's very manageable. I cannot recommend this class enough.
Alyson single-handedly put me on to biological anthropology which I am now majoring in. She is extremely well versed in her profession and delivers class material coherently and in a way anyone could understand while also mixing in light-hearted fun. The teacher truly makes the class and Alyson is the epitome of that. Labs are fascinating as well.
I would definitely take Professor Rollins again; she has an amazing and caring attitude about the class and all the students. This was a morning class and she was always very bright and tried to lighten the mood. Labs were easy but mostly memorization of the bones. Overall and easy class with a great professor definitely recommend.
Lectures were always super interesting and engaging especially for an 8 am. Tests and quizzes are online and easy. Attendance is mandatory for lab but not for lecture. There is a required textbook but I never used it and still excelled in the class. Highly recommend taking this class
The nicest person ever she makes lectures funny and enjoyable to go to. She cares about her students and is there to answer questions. There's essays every other week, but they are super easy and short. Quizzes are online and taken in your own time. There's only a few throughout the quarter. There's a textbook, but you can easily get away without it
Very interesting and engaging lectures, slides are posted to Canvas so it is easy to see what you missed. She is a fair grader and most of it seems completion based. Wasn't a very difficult class as long as you kept track of and did the work. The highlight of this course is definitely the lectures, they are amusing and interesting.
Enjoyed her class a lot. Would take again.
Prof Rollins is such a caring and funny teacher! Her lectures are nice to go too, and if you don't go the notes will be on canvas. She has a study guide for tests but all I needed were my notes to do well in the class. You can tell she's really passionate about Anthropology.
Professor Rollins is very caring and sweet! She goes over a lot in lectures so I didn't really need to use the textbook. Your weekly assignment is the lab and that's it. 3 exams are all online. Lab once a week and you need to stay the whole time even if you finish your lab. The lab is just bone comparisons.
I really enjoyed this class, Professor Rollins provides engaging lectures and is very knowledgeable. You have a reading and one assignment/discussion a week. I took this class for a GUR but found it very interesting.
a total kick in the pants. she really loves what she teaches and has a tendency to go on tangents that aren't relevant to the class material, but still manages to cover all of it with usually ample time left over. very easy A and would definitely recommend! ask to see her bone collections
She was super helpful with helping me learn APA citation and had leeway in the grading of essays for the learning curve of APA. Responded to emails very quickly, and has a wonderful sense of humor! She's so passionate about the subject. Even though I'm not into anthropology I was enamored by the subject in every lecture. Perfect for your SSC GUR!
Alyson Rollins was a great professor, although lectures could get quite boring unless you're very interested in the basics of anth. Class is graded on 5 papers, 5 discussions, and 3 exams. All exams are online and given over the weekend to complete (Fri-Sun window). Overall a very easy GUR.
I LOVE PROFESSOR ROLLINS!!! She is such an amazing professor, and inspired me to pursue the BioAnth major! Her lectures are wonderfully set up, and the weekly assignments were very digestible. Exams are easy if you show up to class and take notes, and she's very lovely to talk to if you have questions. She was definitely the favorite part of my day
Professor Rollins brings her passion for anthropology to life in engaging lectures. While the workload is manageable, attending class is key. I found unstuck study and my notes sufficient for acing this course.
This class was awesome. Alyson's lectures were really interesting, and her grading criteria were clear. There was a textbook reading each week, but it was a manageable amount. I really enjoyed the subject material of this class, and you can tell Alyson does too. She knows what she's talking about, and it makes the work really engaging.
SO lovely as a professor. I took her online course where there's a weekly email for attendance, and she's so funny. She gave great feedback and seemed to enjoy congratulating students on their good assignments. Highly recommend.
Personally I found the textbook (which most of the class is based on) very dry and hard to get through, but overall the class is pretty good. She was very responsive when I had issues w the textbook and overall seemed like a nice person, her video lectures were always interesting and helped me understand the text better
Professor Rollins is incredibly sweet and fun to converse with. She really helped me out this quarter, I find her teaching style to be exceptional as well, especially for this being an online class.
