She takes attendance randomly throughout the semester, you compete for your attendance on Kahoot. I quit going because she doesn't even teach, you get in groups, stare at each other cause no one knows what's going on, then you leave and go teach yourself at home. Dead week = final project that's taken me 5 hours, and we still have to take a final.
The class has a ton of busy work that should be cut. It feel overwhelming at times but stay on top of it and you should come out with at minimum a B. Vowell is nice but doesn't put up with nonsense
Doesn't teach at all and you're expected to learn the material yourself. The last two exams were nothing like the homework or classwork. Would not recommend.
She talks fast and it was very hard to concentrate in her class. She gives a lot of homework, and the exams were very hard. I did all my homework and got A's on the homework but failed every exam I took. So that was why I failed the class.
This is was an online course and she never once uploaded a video of her teaching. The only instruction you get is from videos from a textbook that you are meant to watch weekly. They are not helpful when completing homework assignments, which makes this class extremely difficult.
This teacher never answers emails so get ready to figure things out on your own. Doesn't finish half her lectures in class so you have to do it on your own time. Tests are so hard, nobody ever passes.
We spent 75% of the class on kahoot doing random quizzes and then she never finished her lectures. Her final review packet had no step by step help because she didn't finish the problems on any of them which caused my grade to suffer.
This is a very hard class. However, between the TONS of extra credit, and the fact you can use your notes on exams, it makes the class more bearable. Vowell also rounded my 89.15 to an A, so that was super kind of her. Need to work in this class, if you plan on doing the bare minimum find someone else to take this with.
She was consistent and engaging, made accounting fun! She has developed many resources to help you succeed, but you have to use them; almost every question is broken down and explained on Canvas video tutorials. If you just briefly do some of the pre-class work, it will make her lectures very digestible. ACE is a good resource too! Good luck :)
If you are a good student and willing to put in the work you will have no problem. I love professor Vowel she is amazing. People rate her low because Accounting sucks and is a hard course however, Professor Vowell makes it bearable. She is very willing to help students. I hate Accounting but I love her! Most of these reviews are really exaggerated.
Despite what the other reviews say about Professor Vowell, I would highly recommend taking her class. As long as you stay up on the case studies and the lecture packets you will extremely well in the class. Also, outside of class she is very responsive on Microsoft Teams and email.
This class is SO HARD. Had perfect attendance and went to tutoring twice a week, and still failed. The tests are most of your grade, so you will fail if you don't get great grades on them. The tests are nothing like the homework and all you do during class is Kahoots that barely cover what you're learning. Not given enough time for tests.
To get a good grade in this class you need to hold yourself accountable for time management and general motivation. If you lack these, do not take the online course, you will get a bad grade. I would get a much better grade in this class if I took it in person. Vowell is a good teacher but the good grade depends on the students' will to work.
This class is pretty easy if you apply yourself. Professor vowell is an outstanding professor and she explains the topics very well. If you do the homework and study, you will do fine it this class. Before the semester I was worried about this class because of her reviews, but they are completely false. She is an outstanding teacher.
VOWELL is amazing! she knows accounting is hard and makes her class very easy. extra credit quizzes and one small group project. open note tests and study guides given! made me love accounting.
I took the honors section of accounting and we had one extra assignment per week. You have more than one attempt on the homework each week. vowell overall an awesome person. Showing up to class is super important and she goes through the workbook with you, you can use your workbook on all 3 exams and you get a cheat sheet on the final.
Mrs. Vowell is super nice but I feel like she talked too much. She would talk for AT LEAST 20 minutes every single class so that would leave 15-20 minutes for teaching. Then, would fly through everything and leave most people hanging. A majority of my learning came from TAs on Friday and the videos she posted. I really didn't learn much from her.
The assignments were not clear and she made everything so complicated. There is a booklet you have to get that makes everything 10 times worse. And you watch videos online before the lecture which is dumb because at that point when you go to lecture it is truly nothing you havent seen and rather its like running accounting drills. it was not fun
Hard class, good prof
Lacked somewhat essential communications
I feel like I would have learned better in this class if we spent more time working through problems and if it was more interactive. She just talks for most of the class, and only leaves about 15 minutes for the lecture at the end of class. I liked the idea of having the packets to work through and use as a resource on tests.
Vowell is great. The class is tough but she's super sweet and easy to talk to when you have a question. You have to study outside of class and put the effort in and do the extra credit.
This can be a difficult course, but Professor Vowell makes it bearable. TA's are available to ask questions to on Fridays, SI meetings are held weekly. Don't get behind on the HW/booklets, attend class, and you will be fine. Multiple extra credit opportunities and grade drops are available. Lectures felt rushed at times, but were overall helpful.
This class has plenty of extra credit opportunities, and she will replace your lowest exam grade with your final exam grade if your final exam is higher than an exam grade, which can make a big difference in the class. There is plenty to do outside of class, 2 workbook assignments and one McGraw Hill assignment per week. ACE lab is helpful for HW.
She is a great professor but you need to put in the effort and work your hardest to pass.
i genuinely dislike being in her class, she comes off nice but deep down she wishes nothing more than an F for anyone who isn't a perfect college student, The course blows and so does her teaching. vowell ur not sigma
Vowell is an amazing prof. ACCT is def a difficult class and you probably wont just get by without doing any outside work. The info is kinda hard to grasp but Vowell tries to make it as easy as possible. She also has a lot of bonus opportunities towards the end of the year
I regret ever taking this over the summer. SO SO much work. The homework and quizzes and tests will "only have a few questions but in reality each question has about 20 other questions within them. You are not given enough time on the quizzes and tests to be able to get the correct answer properly. Just horrible.
NEVER take this class during the summer. it was SO. MUCH. WORK. doing at least 8 hours of homework every single day, even on the weekends. the work load was insane, she gives you ZERO time to do tests or exams, always submitting the exams blank because I ran out of time. it was so unfair. The TA also were no help at all.
DO NOT take this class online, you'll be dropped in with no idea. Most of the classes I've taken online through OSU are terrible and lack any meaning teaching, but this class has to be the worst. 90% of the work itself is easy, but the way the course is organized is terrible, unintuitive, and the professor is unresponsive. Just take through TCC
I loved Professor Vowell. I'm an accounting major and took the honors section of the course. Many hate this class. It's very fast-paced, but it's easy if you pay attention and make sure you learn the material. You need to have your pre-packet notes completed before class. There are walk-through videos that explain everything in the packet.
Do not take this class online if you have a choice, and choose a different instructor. The syllabus chapters often don't match with the chapters she's discussing in the lectures, exams are very different from the material you spend weeks working on, dates listed wrong in canvas, assignments not listed in the correct week, and even more issues.
Professor Vowell's class is challenging, but manageable with effort. The workload can be intense, but the material is well-taught. I found unstuckstudy to be a helpful supplement alongside the textbook and in-class work.
I was TERRIFIED to take this class from what I have heard about the professor. However, if you apply yourself you will definitely get an A or B. I would say everyone is being extremely dramatic about this professor. I was deployed overseas for half of this class and still got an A easily. It is A LOT OF WORK, but it is manageable. Great professor.
This is one of the harder spears gen-ed courses. You have to care and try in this class to get a good grade. People that rated her poorly are just mad that they couldn't slack off inside and outside of class. Vowell has very helpful videos and offers plenty of extra credit. There is also a tutoring area in spears called ACE, very supportive.
If you are terrified to take this class because of these reviews - I heavily encourage you to take it!! I was so scared to take this, but I ended up with an A in the class. It is a lot of work, but if you apply yourself and don't slack off you will very easily get an A/B. She is a great professor and gives many resources to succeed in her class.
I am currently taking ACCT 2003 and love Professor Vowell. Her course is a lot of work but it is manageable. You have to be good at time management to succeed in this course. I am taking it online and put aside time everyday to apply myself in this course and I currently have an A in the class. It is not as bad as these reviews make it seem.
The Professor is nice, and the class isn't that bad content-wise. However, the workload is pretty heavy. I personally don't think the amount of work is necessary to assign.
This class is a lot of work. Vowell is very nice and fun, but the actual workload is a lot. Attendance is taken every class. You need to show up to do well. She moves fast but walks us through everything. There is online assignments every week which can take a while to complete. Vowell is a decent teacher, but accounting is horrible.
Not a class that should be taken online unless absolutely necessary. She has too many students to get the testing figured out with proctors. Just find an in person section maybe it would be better.
This was my first Spears class. I looked at all the reviews and thought it would be hard: It was not. Just do your homework and show up to class, and you will be fine. If you get above 900 points before the final, you already have an A, so you get to skip the final. This shi was light.
This class is difficult, but professor Vowell does her best to ease it. Attendance is mandatory and there is a semester-long packet that is went over in class. She overexplains the little things sometimes but if you put in the effort you can succeed. There are 4 tests and you can use the packet and notes on it, so do the packet. Nice teacher.
Vowell is a decent professor for a boring class. ACCT2003 is not a hard class, and she does a great job with making surface level course work applicable to real life accounting. Mostly anybody who has something bad to say about her, didn't try very hard. Although she does yap quite a bit before lecture.
Professor Vowell gets too much hate. If you genuinely care about the course and make an effort to engage with her, she is a really great person. My only critiques of the class were that there were so many assignments that it was difficult to keep track. The other is that the final group project felt frivolous and could have been done individually.
professor Vowells intro to accounting is a fairly easy course. However it is not a blow off class, expect to have homework, and to study for exams (the online exams are formatted a little weird via EXAMIND) . She is generous with extra credit and has walk through videos if you're struggling with the homework. Enjoyed the class wound take again.
There were a lot of assignments, but they were helpful to the overall grade. It took her a day or two to respond to emails but she was very willing to help with questions about the course or material.
Very annoying. She thinks she's better than everyone else and just expects you to teach yourself. Absolutely would not take again.
Don't believe everything you hear. this professor is absolutely amazing. she is consistently encouraging her students and truly wants them to succeed. although i do not love the subject, she teaches it in a way that makes it fun. i am so grateful for this professor. also there is tons of extra credit. i got C's on tests but i still have a 97.
This professor is the best professor in the world! She responds to her emails so quickly and is very good at lectures. She gave a good amount of homework and made the test pretty easy. She always had a good attitude and kept things VERY organized. She made me feel very seen and always helped me with anything I needed! I love this class. PLEASE TAKE
So nice and caring! Love this professor. She gives so much extra credit! I highly suggest this class!!!
