First class more than half of the class left(the others like me stayed just for respect)but for sure everyone will drop it, I didn't know what kind of language he was speaking, it's really dificult to understand him, he also told us that we will be doing all financial calculations by hand, we are not allowed to use the financial calculator.Don't ta
More than half the classed dropped. Although his background is Great graduating from Columbia. He doesn't understand how CSUF works. Since the beginning they taught us to use the Fin Cal. Now he is completely ignoring what the whole finance department has engrained into our brains and going by what he thinks is right. You can be the test but im not
If you like doing everything long hand take him. If you do not and like most of us like to use practical knowledge rather than theory than don't take him. Doesn't apply real life experience to his class, I bet when he went to Columbia they drank coffee all day and did math equations rather than getting a real job. Bad accent!!!
He has got to be the worst teacher in the history of Cal State Fullerton. Approx. 15 people have dropped from everyone of his classes. He is not very helpful and does everything by long hand. He will talk the entire class about nothing!! I do not recommend him. He is very hard to understand!! RUN IF YOU GET HIM!!
Don't take him. Unless you really like bad grades. Has to be the worst teacher to date. Honestly I don't really give bad reviews on anyone but there is always a first thanks to Da Silve. I hope Stohls recognizes this and fires him and gets a real teacher.
vary bad teacher, wait another semister instead of taking him
DaSilva is not as bad as it sounds. His lectures are off the walls. Very difficult to understand and follow his lectures. His first test was not that hard, especially with the curve. If you know TVM, then you're good to go.
take somebody else if you can. he is not that bad but he is just difficult to understand. material is in-depth study of 320. my notes from 320 are more helpful than his lectures.
I think he's a good professor to take. The class hasn't been any different from any other class I have taken. His practice exams are very helpful and he listens to what the students want. Just study the pratice exam and homework before the test and you'll do fine.
new teachers usually makes the class easy, but in his case its the other way, he made it very difficult. I dont think many people are gonna pass the class. he is ok, i would not take him again.
Guys, he is not a bad teacher. He is a nice guy, great enthusiasm, but is just new to teaching and wants to do it the best way for the students. Not all students are thrilled about that if it means actually having to work a little. Use the practice tests, do the homework, and pass the class...Simple
Agree with most recent posts, not a bad teacher if you want to learn something. If your a moron, then take another teacher. Practice exams are similar to actual ones and final includes everything. Learning formulas actually made you think of how things effect price and such. I think most who came to class will pass.
This class isn't an easy class, but it's not the teacher's fault! You people need to stop your b*tching and apply yourself to learn the material. If you don't have enough common sense to figure this out, you shouldn't be a business major! God forbids if I have to work with one of you dumbasses someday.
Professor loves teaching but is not very good at it yet, he is a new teacher. You will have to teach yourself but his tests are fair. Two tests, one final, and a group project. Also, it helps to memorize his formulas he will not teach you how to use a fin. calculator.
Guy is really good not doubt, lot of knowledge and willingness to transfer it. However, not allowing the calculator is ridiculous.Where ever you go in practical life today, people don't waist time putting the formulas together and spend 10 minutes to find a PV when it could be done in 50 secs. Bottom line: IF YOU CAN STAY AWAY!unnecessary work!!
good teacher. exams are VERY similar to practice exams. HWs are easy and help out too. Project is easy if you follow his instructions. doesnt teach you the fin calc very much but does let you use it in exams. so if you dont remember how to use it from 320 then read the instructions. HERE'S YOUR CHILI PEPPER THAT YOU WANTED!
Prof. Da Silva was really awesome! He was very flexible with me and allowed me more time to study and do my homework when work got in the way. He took extra time out to further explain things during his office hours and was very patient with me. THANK YOU for all your help, Prof. Da Silva! :D
Extremely patient and helpful instructor. Always available for students.
He is a very cool professor, he is very intelligent, and very helpfull. Please disregard the comments below, HE DOES LET YOU USE YOUR FINANCIAL CALCULATOR ON THE TESTS. The homework and practice tests are very similar to the midterms, which was very helpful. I highly reccomend him. Spring got B+
An OUTSTANDING prof. He knows so MUCH, he is a math genious. One of the nicest person I've ever met. Extremely helpful and patient. Teaches from students perspective and treats students like human beings. Gives out sample exams which are very similar to the actual exams. Do the project and HW prob sets and you'll do fine in this class.
This guy is a no go. You wont learn much in the class. He didnt let the class use a cheat sheet in the 1st exam, so the average was very low. I dont recommend this guy. I passed this class by staying at home and reading the text book!
the guy means well but is not at all clear. went to class all the time and could not for the life of me figure out what he was saying or doing. read the book its better than going to his lecture. NOT recommended.
WOW! I’m very surprised about all the good reviews this guy has!!! Considering more than half the class wouldn’t show up to class. I was one of the few that went to almost all his classes and I didn’t learn any thing from the guy. The guy can’t teach if his life depended on it. Do not take this guy, TRUST ME. One of the worst professors in CSUF.
STOP COMPLAINING PPL. THIS IS ONE THE CORE MAJOR COURSE, IT'S NOT SUPPOSE TO BE A WALK IN THE PARK EASY!! GO TO CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION AND STOP COMPLAING CHILDREN.
He’s not the best teacher but, he means well. The test are almost the exact same as the sample test and a quarter of the questions on the sample are on the actual test. There is six group problem sets and one large group project that can be hard if you don’t pick the right company. If you can do the problems on the sample test you should do fine.
Worst finance professor I have ever taken! Do not take this guy...
This guy is clueless on how to effectively teach an uppder division coursre that is really very difficult. Trust me, if you take this class you will deeply regret it.
This professor is really smart and the class is not difficult at all. All these complaines are from lasy students. Just ignore them. He gives almost the same problems on the test as the ones from his simple test. Just have to review them. He is really cool in grading. With a little effort you can get B-. TAKE THE CLASS
I agree. This professor is so nice, helpful and knowlegable. His lecture is clear and understandable. 3 exams & 1 small project. Tests are easy and straight forward. I got a B in his class because i skipped the project. Highly recommended. DO NOT LISTEN TO THOSE PREVIOUS STUDENTS. They were not patient enough to get to know the professor.
His accent is comprehensible but can get irritating when the material is difficult to understand. There is a group assignment due every week, then a large project that doesn't even count much. I had to work my ass off to get a B but it isn't impossible.
Professor Da Silva is extremetly helpful. He is very smart, and he knows a lot about the subject. Finance 332 is not easy subject therefore you have to go over your notes. He provides with power point presentations, sample tests, and problem sets. If you do your work you will be fine. You should take him!
Mr D was awesome, learned so much from his teaching, go to his class he will provide you with everything to pass, gives you sample exams, and i think he tried his best to help the students, its a hard subject but he is an awesome professor take hiim!!
Nice is not a substitute for competence. Has ZERO practical experience in finance. He is unable to answer "challenging" questions. Doesn't have basic communication skills required of a professor. He knows of his low ratings and tries to defend himself. Easy class though, just read the book, lectures will confuse you.
Easy class. I agree that the teacher does not know what he is doing, but he explains everything that will be on the test to every small detail. READ the BOOK and you will do fine
Taught in the summer. Too much work, tests too long, final was so hard no one even made an A on it. In the end wasn't willing to work with students. Many different short comings in teaching this class.
easy enough to get a good grade. pg of notes per test, got a b+ over the summer without trying to hard. must take
Da Silva is a nice guy. There will be times though where he doesn't have an answer to questions you ask him. He allows you a page of notes on the exams, study sample exams because he will take the exact same problems from it. Easy class to pass as long as you go to class and do the work.
this guy speaks broken english..he is cocky...he doesnt want us to get the book so we can learn it his way. He actually tries to trick you from getting the correct answers. Dont take him unless u want to get a bad grade or fail.
Class is not that difficult, you do have to really study tho to understand the concepts. Teacher is helpful, gives sample exams and problems sets. Tests have like 10 ques. from sample test and 1 or 2 from problem set. So, if you do the work, you will be rewarded. Sometimes hard to understand, but overall he is a good teacher. He's funny too!
Once you get past his dry jokes, you will be fine. He gives the impression that he is linient when he is anything but. The final had stuff that I have never seen. But he gave some extra credit so that was good. I would not rate him the best by any means, he is okay, lukewarm.
Took the course last summer amid rumors he was a bad, hard teacher. He is not difficult. He explains topics well and gives you sample exams, these samples are often found on actual exams. What else can he do? He has vastly improved from when he first came to CSUF. If you go to class, pay attention, do homework, you will do fine.
Dasilva is a good professor. He is passionate about the subject and his tests are straightforward.
Easy prof. He gives sample tests/exam. Some similar/same qxns in actual test/exam. Just study the sample tests and you'll do well. Final's more difficult than regular tests. Very nice and helpful during office hours. If he knows you are trying, you'll most likely pass. Get into a good group for project. Project's quite a killer.
Funny guy. Exam1= F Exam2= C+ Final = C Project A Curved Final Grade C+. Not that bad.
I took Econ 515 during last summer. I think the professor was good to explain the topics very clearly. we had 2 midterms and 1 final and no project. 2 midterms were pretty easy and similar to problem sets, however final was really really difficult.(average was sixty something..)i recommend him, it's not that hard class.
Its pretty much Fin 320 but he makes it harder than it actually is. dont need the book. at 1st i was worried about the class bcuz i didnt do so well on the 1st exam but he gives you a bunch of extra credit and the sample exams help a lot!
has a clear understanding of the topic. is able to answer questions clearly. helps with the exams by giving sample exams with the answers. ppt teaching method at times. helpful wit extra credit. will pass u if u go to class and do the extra credit.
I think he is cool and considerate. Although attendance is not mandatory but I do recommend you to go to class and take notes. Exams are straight forward mixed with 2 or 3 tricky questions. Final was moderate. Project is easy if you follow his guide.
Lectures....boring. You're better off just reading the powerpoints yourself and sit in the back. DON'T speak/interrupt while he is teaching - "In you're land, it's very rude". Book not needed at all. Exam 1 = B, Exam 2 = A, Project = B Final = C: Final Curved Grade = A-; Make sure you do the extra credit; it made a big difference on my grade.
Good instructor. Has a thick accent, but you get used to it. Takes the time to teach and make sure you understand. Not much homework, just go to class, take notes and study a little and you should do fine. Nice guy, good stories.
DONT TAKE HIM! He definately makes the class harder than it is. He does not really want you to learn it.
he's very good in explaining the concepts but the test seems harder than it should be...he does give sample exams and prob sets to help you understand the material...do the extra credit...the project was pretty simple if you followed his directions exactly...sometimes a bit hard to understand due to the accent but overall a decent teacher
Lecture is dry and it can get pretty hard to follow at times. However, the professor is helpful if you go to his office hours. In class explanation is never really clear as it seems like he always move on even if the student still haven't got a clue. Not the easiest class but it's do able if you work hard. The group project isn't that hard.
great teacher, good stories, knows his stuff, will help you just ask anything, easy exams, nuff said
I got an A in Professor Kung?s class. I think I got an A because I took her class over the summer and this was the only class I had to focus on. I highly recommend summer school for difficult courses. I also highly recommend this teacher. You get to use notes on exams.
DaSilava is Da-Bomb and I highly recommend him. He can simplify even the most difficult problems. This is probably the hardest class in the Finance concentration. Take this class over the summer if you can.
Great Teacher. Provides organized power points, sample tests, practice problems, and extra credit. Highly recommended
Great professor, but my gripe is that I should've gotten an A not an A-. Grade based on 2 Midterms, Final and Group Project. Make SURE you have a good group!! Or plan on doing all the work and rating your group members down. Exams based off lectures; no book required. If you did well in FIN 320, you'll do well here.
One of the best professors I've ever taken, extremely helpful, gives real world examples. I'm ACC major and wanted to switch to Fin just because he made it very interesting and clear. His exams are exactly like the take homes, so study those and you shouldn't have an excuse to fail
Prof Amadeau DaSilva is an impressive professor. I took the course in Summer and he completed a huge amount of material with ease. I was extremely impressed with how everyone did in class 'coz thats a clear indication of hoe the Prof teaches. we were averaging an A-. two thumbs up. He makes Finance extremely interesting and easy to understand.
the class was basically a rehash of 320. I found his accent hard to understand at times and if we didn't understand something he'd stop trying to explain. the worst part was the group project. he doesn't explain what he wants, grades really hard, and gives an example project that received a poor grade.
This class is a joke to begin with. If you're a business major, you should know the material already. DaSilva is cool. He gets pissed at the class often and sweats like a beast but class was easy and I got an A with minimal effort. Never opened my book in the class. His practice exams are exactly the same as the tests.
Very easy class if you read the chapter and go to class. Do all homework assignments and you should do well in the course.
Good teacher. Funny guy. 2 midterm exams, Fincoach exam, and final. Plus online HW. I study nothing but the sample exams he gives and I get an A on every test. Make it easy on yourself and study the samples before you study anything else.
he is very knowledgable. explains materil clearly. very good examples. He writes everything on the board.PP for reading and preparing for class. only few slides each chapter so print them and write notes during class. you'll get an A easily. highly recommand. exams are silimar to samples.
Da Silva is a really cool professor. It takes a few classes to get his accent, but after that he is pretty funny. The negative to the class is he is very theoretical and doesn't really tie in much to real life. If you want to learn your finance basics, Da Silva is your guy. P.S. Fincoach is overrated. Don't worry about it.
Very difficult to understand, isn't very helpful and doesn't seem to really care about his job.
Application problems are easier but the conceptual side is much harder. Difficult to get an A but guaranteed to get a C if you try...and I mean try not coast through. Helpful before the tests only. Cheat sheets allowed on exams. Attendance required, although didn't announce it and thus I lost points.
Awesome professor! I really enjoyed this class, he is honest, to the point, and organized. sometimes he tells stories, but class is very productive. You have online hw and quizzes, 2 in class exams, fincoach, and a final. Finance is not an easy subject for everyone, but he was very helpful! highly recommended!
Prof.Da Silva makes the class very easy. He goes over lots of examples in the class and makes sure students understand the concepts. He breaks down subjects specifically so it was very easy to understand things not familiar. I don't know why these two ppl below rated him so low. He's willing to help you whenever you need some help.Take him!!!
I should have gotten at least a C or B in this class, now I have to retake it because he gave me a C-. I showed up to class but I was not credited for my attendance, I got Bs on all the exams, but I got a bad grade on the final and I was right on the border for getting a C and this teacher decided not to pass me. Also crazy Np cell phone policy!
Retook it with Dasilva, took Bhootra and got a D. Dasilva is great, HW is worth 12.5 % of your grade. Your grade will improve 5-9% if you do well on it. You get 20 extra credit points IF YOU STAY TILL THE VERY END TO SIGN IN. You get 1 extra credit point for each test if you do the assigned problem, so 5 additional extra credit points for that.
I did not find this teacher to be very helpful. He seems to get frustrated when you ask a lot of questions and just moves on. I would not take this teacher again; I prefer teachers who want to help students make it through school not hinder them.
his accent is really hard to understand. he gives 5-6 extra credit but it only worth 1 point each.very confused professor.I have to use my friend's power point to study because his stuff is very confusing. specially if you are not native american you barely understand what he says. not recommended.
SO BEAUTIFUL! His class is difficult but he writes very detailed notes on the board with plenty of examples. Review exams are similar to the actual exams but the final is ridiculously hard. No homework, just quizzes once a week. Hes really the best and sexiest finance professor.
Online hw and quizzes with every chapter, 2 in-class exams, 1 online exam, and a final. He allows 1 pg (front & back) of notes for each exam (2 pgs for final). I suggest reading every chapter-exams correlate with reading, hw, and quizzes. He gives points for attendance and a few extra credit ops. Lectures are entertaining. Definitely recommend him!
Class is really hard. But Dasilva teaches the class really well and his accent is not hard to understand. He makes everything clear and understandable. However, his tests are really hard. But you will learn a lot, which is the whole point of taking a class.
He is awesome! After taking his class, I felt lost with other finance professors. Sometime I thought "wish it was Dasilva" lol! The accent, completely not hard to understand. Class material is well written and explained by him. The exam came out exactly as what he taught in class. If you did not get the points, it just means you might have missed.
In my opinion one of the worst teachers at CSUF! He had a pompous attitude from the beginning and was rude to students who needed extra help. I would not recommend this teacher to my worst enemy.
Worst Professor ever to teach this class, do not take him! I only missed class twice due to illness & I still didn't understand his class. His accent is not hard to understand but the way he teaches is! He was arrogant & did not like to help. His examples did not match the exams or sample exams. Made learning from him very difficult!
My advice is getting A from the first 2 exams. Do all extra credit. Attendance is mandatory. I got A during his class until I hit the final exam with a D. I still cant believe it now. He gave some questions that we did not cover in the class. I am still pissed off.
The class was very easy if you have had a good knowledge of Cost Accounting. Midterms are not too difficult; However, you need to practice a lot in order to finish on time. Final exam is a killer. However, if you keep practicing problems, you will get A+ like I did
Horrible professor! Didn't have a set class structure; book was useless; he seemed annoyed to help students and was always complaining; exams are difficult not to mention final exam was beyond ridiculously hard and his study/sample exams were not related to actual exam. Attendance is mandatory. Just spare yourself and avoid taking this class period
GO TO CLASS , he give points for attendance ,his lectures are amazing, not boring at all. His exams are not most difficult but you need to study. Do the HW and Quizzes online and study them before exam. Strongly recommend him
Not the best prof, but really does try with his lecture style of writing on the board. Def have buddies in this class bc the material is hard.Gives EC and a curve at the end.ALL exams are similar to the sample ones EXCEPT the final.Study all sample exams at least 2 times before exam;I did this and got an A. He's so funny and HANDSOME.I'd recommend!
I got an A. This class is feasible.Study all myfinancelab quizzes and his sample exams a couple times before the actual exams and you will do fine.He can be confusing at times, but I really enjoyed his funny personality. The book was almost useless but helped during quizzes.Be sure to have study buddies.Highly recommend esp cause hes so handsome!
As long as you are willing to study, he will teach you and help you. Just put extra efforts and really study well. He's the best finance teacher ever!!!!
He likes to make jokes and tell funny stories. The class is pretty easy if you show up and take notes. I will say his accent can be hard to understand and he writes extremely small on the board. He kicked some people out throughout the semester when he caught them on their cell. Sometimes he wasted the rest of the class ranting about it too.
Charming guy. Pretty good professor. Lectures were clear & understandable despite the accent, but sometimes boring. Sit near the front or you'll never be able to read his tiny writing on the board. Does a lot of practice problems, which was helpful. Gives extra credit. Always sets aside a day of class to review before exam. Would take him again.
I recommend he does lectures very well he doesnt read off powerpoints. His text are very similar to sample test. Love his personality make class interesting.
Good class. Take good notes, do the homework. Does a lot of practice problems. If you pay attention it is pretty easy.
The class is not hard, but he makes it harder with many group projects and exams. Only him teach this level, so you should not be victim for his prejudice. If don't like him, take other class as soon as posible
its not an easy class but he teaches well, and his classes are fun.
DaSilva is awesome!!! He made such a hard class seem very easy. It was a summer course so it was hard to cover all the material in one month but he still did a great job at teaching everything we were going to be tested on. I very much recommend him. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get a good grade in the class. Do no text during class!
He's definitely one of the better professors at Csuf. Text book is used mostly for quizzes and exams. Read the chapters.. do that and you'll pass. I enjoyed his class so much, I hated that it was over.
really hard professor, do not reccommend. very heavy accent. not clear at teaching whatsoever. does not curve grade and makes test extremely difficult. boring at lecturing
Good professor. Make sure to take a lot of notes. His writing is small so it is better to sit in the front. He does have an accent but it''s not that thick. It''s a hard class but he makes sure you are prepare for the tests.
The best professor I've ever had in my life. Truly an inspiring person, plus he's good looking and very intelligent - great combination for learning ;)
Awesome professor. He taught the material very well. You have to do your part to get an A or B+. You must study for the exams. And the final is cumulative.
If you're a visual learner then don't take him. He writes everything on the white board, however its only the numbers needed for the problems that he plugs into the solutions. Then when you get to the test there is an entire word problem you've never seen anything like. I would never take him again or recommend him to anyone.
Good knowledge of the subject he teaches. Hard exams. Knows almost everything about the topic.
PSA - PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY FOR THE ENTIRE CLASS. HE WILL KICK YOU OUT AS SOON AS HE SEES YOUR PHONE OUT (AND HE WILL SEE IT EVEN IF YOU'RE SITTING ON THE BACK). HE KICKED OUT 2 OR 3 PEOPLE IN MY CLASS. He is a nice Prof, the only thing that bothered me was that his tests are NOTHING like the sample tests, they are way more difficult. Take Jolley!
He applies his cost concept in everything he does, even his syllabus to the choice of his words are concise and to the point. He doesn't waste time in class and his lectures starts promptly. Btw he can be facing the board doing tedious math and simultaneously, spot students who are on their phone. Its like his has extra brain and pairs of eyes.
Don't bother buying textbook. Fast talker, accent ok to get through. Copy everything written on white board quickly, he moves on at a fast pace. Sample exams are NOT helpful. NO NOTES ALLOWED on exams. Must memorize how to do everything. Must know everything backwards and forwards. Group projects easy. Do all extra credit. Small curve possible.
Solid professor. Very smart and knowledgeable about the material. Does everything by hand though so if you hate that then look for a professor that lets you use excel in the course. Easy to get a B if you do the work, getting an A is hard. one of my few Bs. Still a great class.
Hands down one of the best professors at CSUF! His lectures are to the point and gives clear examples. Works through each example problem in class along with students to ensure everyone understands. Goes over practice exams & practically tells you whats on the exam. Love that he doesn't use standard PowerPoint presentations for lecture.
One of the best professors in CSUF. he is very caring and explains everything clearly even if he has accent, but that doesnt affect his clarity at all. Compared to some native professors, he is very mindful of how to address things clearly. If you pay attention and study, you will get A
Beware of this professor, the problems are weighted in a way where if you miss more than two, its almost impossible for you to get an A in the course. The class is very tough and he is the reason why. The textbook can be vague and if you miss any lectures, you'll suffer. He will always try to trick you on exams and time is an issue. Nice guy tho.
This professor is great. I feel like I did the bare minimum and still managed to get a C+(no Reading, just HW) . To get an A, study. The tests are very similar to the practice tests. Make sure you keep up with the concepts so that you do well in the final! Definitely doable! Attendance is not mandatory, but its for extra credit.
One of the best teacher at CSUF. Review quiz before exam. I noticed similar questions on exam. Review lecture notes like 5 times before exam. Yow are allowed to bring one cheat sheet.
Had a few complications at the beginning of the semester and I missed a few class meetings. So it was tough for me. Tests seemed like they were more toward the very difficult level. So just expect the class material he teaches you as a stepping stone. The rest of the way is all on you if the grade matters. You will like what you will learn.
Hands down one of the best professors I've had at CSUF! (Had me considering switching majors) This is a difficult course, so don't expect to slide through it. Exams are heavy computational, but he explains the material well.(Cheat sheets are allowed on exams) He moves extremely quickly, so missing class is not recommended. Lots of extra credit opps
Amazing professor! But, the course was extremely difficult even with a sheet cheat. Make sure you understand the concepts. His study guides are super helpful. Homework/quiz due online every single Sunday. He offers extra credit. Dont just google the hw answers, understand them. Lots of concept questions from quizes/hw show up on exams.
PROFESSOR DA SILVA IS HILARIOUS AND A VERY GOOD TEACHER. THE COURSE ITSELF IS NOT DIFFICULT HOWEVER THE DEPARTMENT EXAMS ARESO WHILE YOU CAN SKIP LECTURES, I RECOMMEND YOU SHOW UP. HES THOROUGH AND EASY BUT MAKE SURE TO STUDY THE EXAMPLES AND QUIZZES. SOME EXTRA CREDIT BUT GETTING A GOOD SCORE ON THE EXAMS WILL MAKE YOU SOLID. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Im a senior and i have never switched out a class until this. His lectures notes are so unorganized and confusing. He talks about a topic but with out explaining the basics of it. He moves super quick through his lectures. 2bad no other professors were offered for this course. Save yourself the trouble and find some1 else. worst csuf prof ive had
One of the best professors ive ever had. Hes willing to help and will spend time to explain things to you if you do not understand them. He draws diagrams in his lectures which really helped me learn and is very articulate. Tests shouldnt be hard if you study because theyre very similar to the study guide and notes. Also hes really funny :)
Took it as a collateral course, finance isn't my major. This rating is for people looking for those courses. I regretted taking this class after the first test. Even though he does curve the grades, don't take it. I never missed class & completed all the extra credit & it was still wasn't enough. Not worth it. Avoid if possible.
Took his night class. 2 tests and one final. Final is cumulative. Gives in depth reviews before tests making them pretty simple. HW helps and you'll see test questions from the homework. A lot of people in class would fail the tests, making the average in the 60s, have no idea how that was possible with his reviews and cheat sheet. Would take again
Math is not my strong suit, so this class was difficult for me. His lectures are very fast. I didn't do well on the first few exams, but I attended each class, completed extra credit, and did all HW. The only reason I passed was bc I did well on the cumulative final. Take advantage of ANY extra credit and easy assignments!
This was the hardest class I've ever taken, considering it is my last semester at CSUF. 3 exams, 5 group projects that you turn in with peer evaluations, 3 points extra credit available. The first two exams weren't bad, but the final was really hard, considering no formula sheet was allowed for any exam, especially when the final was cumulative.
He's a nice guy who's willing to help students out. His exams are pretty similar to the practice exams and quiz questions. Hw and quizzes every week. Lectures are mostly examples. He does an outstanding job of explaining things. He does move fast, but he's always willing to re-explain.
doesn't teach concepts just rushes through problems, exams are 100x harder than in class examples or practice tests. AVOID
One midterm, one final, 5 group projects, and a few extra credit assignments. Attendance is taken at the end of class and is used to determine if you will get extra credit. Skip class? You won't pass. He's old school. Class lectures are hand written info + examples. He's nice but the exams are on the difficult side.
Dasilva is underrated. FIN320 is a very fair class: formula sheet in addition to a 1 page cheatsheet for every exam. Plus all the problems are done on financial calculators and he gives practice exams that are 80% identical to the actual exam. This class could have been twice as difficult if none of those things were true. He's also pretty funny.
Professor DaSilva was a great professor! Online HW, 2 Mid Terms, 1 Online Department exam (2 tries), and a cumulative final. He gives 3% extra credit based on your overall attendance & several extra credit assignments. He also gives you everything you need to succeed, you just need to take the time to really study the material. Also no book needed
He is a nice person and is helpful. But, if you don't understand he doesn't alter the explanation just reiterates it again. No formula sheet even though most students would greatly benefit from it. This class is a lot like Acct 302, so if you struggled in there AVOID this class. Many high reviews but several students did not pass or got a low grade
Don't play on your device during class! Take good notes, and get acquainted with your finance calculator, or you'll have an extremely hard time. You only get two attempts on each of the quizzes, but there's some extra credit. He gives you a formula sheet, and you can make your own cheat sheet to use on the tests: two exams and one cumulative final.
Good with lectures and explaining the basics of the material. I don't know where everyone is getting the idea that his test reviews are identical to his tests because they are nowhere even close. Tests were so completely blown out of proportion and over complicated. Class avg was 63% for tests. He offers extra credit, but this is still disgraceful.
Exams are open book open note and does not use proctorio, but he gave too little time for the exams! Three exams plus department exam. Exams, hw, and quizzes are on Pearson and are HARD! Attendance is extra credit and does not require camera on. Zoom classes pretty much every other week but hw/ quizzes are due every week. Gives two extra credits.
He is a very nice man and knows his stuff, I can't stress it enough, watch the lectures, zoom meetings are not mandatory, but I strongly recommend reviewing the lectures, they are crucial to doing well in the class. The concepts aren't difficult, but if you're not watching the lectures, then you're not going to pass the class.
His stories are so funny! He is nice until you pull out your phone, so just leave it in your bag or you will be kicked out lol. He cares about his students and is always willing to help with office hours or after class. The dept. exam is horrible so study hard! The other two exams are his own making so easier for sure. Do the homework and study!
The online class meets once a week for a bit over an hour not mandatory, but he does give you a few extra credit points at the end if you attended all the meetings. Watching the videos is a must in order to understand and pass the class. Four extra credit assignments, weekly homework is on Pearson and it's NOT a lot. Grading is curved.
I took this class ONL, he post videos on Titianum and they are often long but they are helpful for the exam--if u do the Pearson hw, valuation exam & all the extra credit you will do fine. He does curve the exam grades i had a C and ended with a C+ but u do have to show some effort. U dont have to go to class but he does give you points if u do
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO LEARN. He forces you to memorize the formulas and the course is graded by few things. You don't get a good grade on the first exam? it's over. He writes on the board by the way and if you think can listen to him, learn the concept, and take notes all at the same time then you might like his class.
Professor DaSilva was amazing! Gave lots of extra credit opportunities, lectures are clear and specific to what you need to know for the exams. Gave practice exams that are almost identical to the actual exams. If you put in a little effort, easy class and highly recommend!
Good guy, tough course. He doesn't allow technology in class. He writes on the board the whole time and we copied everything exact. 3 exams, final is weighted the heaviest. You pick a group and work with them throughout the semester on 5 assignments. He gives extra credit throughout the semester. Attendance is also extra credit. Dont buy the book.
3 exams that are similar to the sample exam but nothing like the lectures. offers some extra credit and the curve is higher the lower you score. only hw is group assignments which are fairly simple and grades easy but tests are really difficult
Counts attendance and does not allow cheat sheet. Write down everything he does. He will test you with conceptual questions about things he mentioned for 60 secs. Class avg was a 61 for the first exam. Other section had an F average. This was the pattern during semester. He curves the class to have an overall 80%. Do not take this class with him.
Extremely boring and does not allow students to use laptops or phones in class because he "wants respect and doesn't know what students are actually doing." All his lectures are him doing review problems and talking to the whiteboard. Would not recommend anyone to take him unless you like being bored to death. Also material was boring and irelavant
Outdated teaching style, lectures are on the white board in class and nowhere else, if you miss class or are a slow not taker you will be in trouble. No formulas given on exams whic is needed and would make sense to have considering the content. this is a finance elective class, do your self a favor and choose a different elective.
Professor DaSilva is very knowledgable about what he teaches. He does not hesitate to answer questions. Attendance is mandatory because he goes into detail about the main topics. He allows a one page, double sided, to be used as a cheat sheet for all 3 exams. He gives EC opportunities and there's one major project due at the end of the semester.
I really don't know why there is so much hate towards this man/his teaching style. The material is pretty straightforward if you show up to class, write down all his notes, and ask questions. Literally ALL his exams were VERY similar to the sample exams he gives. All I did was study the sample exams a few times over and got an A on every exam lol.
Professor DaSilva has a great personality, and he means well. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy his class. I thought it was an Intro to Finance class (advertised that way), but there was a lot of math and calculating. He does not accept being on your phone or computer, and exams are in person w/ 1 double sided cheat-sheet. Highly unrecommended.
Avoid taking this Professor! Outdated teaching style, meaningless lectures and assignments, final is worth almost 40% of grade. Does not offer much help, even when you go in for office hours.
I thought I wouldn't like his teaching style because there is absolutely no technology allowed, ended up being one of the most informative classes I took. Not all professors can engage a 3 hour class just lecturing and using a white board but he does a great job. Highly recommend taking him, you just need to be willing to pay attention and work.
He's a sweet and funny guy with lots of stories to tell and accommodating to an extent yet, I wouldn't take his class again. He doesn't allow technology for any reason, it's difficult to follow when he goes over "problems" because it's like how he'd take his own personal notes and when someone asks a question in class he doesn't really answer.
Really nice professor and means well for his students. Teaching style is a bit dated i.e. no technology. Lectures are a bit heavy, but he does answer questions if asked. Attendance is not mandatory but highly recommended to keep up. Double sided cheat sheet for all exams. No HW. Weekly quizzes. Overall, a great guy and a decent professor.
3 exams worth 28.5% of your grade. 5 group projects worth 14.5% each worth 20 points. Exams were 50% similar to the sample and worth studying. In most classes we worked on problems for each chapter.
Professor's teaching style is old-school - no tech allowed, just lectures and whiteboard. Gotta be diligent and take extensive notes to do well. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for exam prep alongside the sample tests.
He is an okay professor. His online course consisted of watching lecture videos. Make sure to watch because he checks if you do and gives you a grade. Three test in total. Work out problems were similar to the sample test. For multiple choice felt like you had to read the text. Not very lenient.
Class consisted of three test done in person. One cheat sheet. Multiple choice and fill in the blank. Fill in the blank are similar to the sample exams (write on cheat sheet). Must watch lecture videos. Weekly homework and quiz on finance lab due every Sunday.
Great proefssor, pretty straight forward on what you have to do. Mock exams are like actual exams and lets u know what math questions will be asked. Great prof overall, would take again.
A great professor who wants you to learn. Only allowed to handwrite notes, but it helps with comprehension of the material incredibly. Group projects are homework assignments in a group format, very doable. Exams are hard, but all 400-level exams are. Pay attention, put in the time to study, and be present during class, and you will do great!
Do not take him in a summer or online class unless you're confident in your finance skills. He he uses zoom in an unorthodox way to check on you while you're taking your exam. If he suspects cheating, it's an automatic fail.
