he does not speak english very well and is very fast passes

Amadou is very intellegent. He moves VERY fast. Use a dig camera to get notes off the board (no joke). He has high standards and is fair, but by no means a push over. Amadou is very generous with partial credit.
Does not know what he's doing, very unhelpful and instead of explaining when someone doesn't understand he will argue.
He is one of the best Math instructors there. His speed will catch you off gaurd the first couple of classes but he is always willing to stop, go back, and do it again slower if asked. He is also more than reasonable with homework and exams.
This teacher is a math teacher!!!! He knows his stuff! Take any class from him.
If you like challenge , you will like him
Amadou is one of the best Math instructors I have ever had. He is always willing to clarify topics if asked and is very reasonable when it comes to assignments. Attempt every problem he gives test or homework. You will always get some points if something is written.
worst class i have ever taken.
Excellent professor, one of the best math professors that i have had. Would take up any class again with him anytime.
Amadou is a great instructor who knows how to explain the material. He is not unreasonable when it comes to homework assignments or tests and always gives partial credit. It was a fairly easy A for me.
Amadou helps you if you need it; however, you will probably need it. If you work hard you can get an A or B. He is very fair but very fast.
Amadou is a wonderful professor. While extremely qualified he permits his students to engage in conversation that promotes clarity in his class. I thoroughly enjoyed learning the process of the Who, What, When, Where & How in this class. Dr. Gaye's explanation is wonderful and he is very intent on his student's comprehension of all aspects.
worst class ever. hes totally unhelpful, and spends as much time arguing about answers as he does teach. too dependant on calculators. he teaches way too fast, and will go over the problem a few times, but just as fast.

He is one of the best math professors at MCC. I would encourage anyone to take him. He answers your questions and is very fair at grading. His method of teaching is superby.
Best math teacher I have had
is it me or is he obsessed with las cruces?
He just presents the info. He doesn't teach it. He tries to clarify it for you, but doesn't do the best job at it.
Great teacher, one of the best at MCC. funny, laid back, and he makes sure you understand before he goes on. tests werent too difficult as long as you did the homework (make sure you do the recomended along with the required). he graded on homework, tests and projects.
THIS GUY SUCKS. HE GIVES 5 QUESTION TEST AND ONE OF THEM WILL BE ONE THAT YOU HAVE NOT REVIEWED YET. IT IS A JOKE AND I AM GOOD AT MATH. I HAVE NEVER DROPPED A CLASS BUT THIS GUY I DID HE IS NOT WORTH A BAD GRADE GET OUT
This man is smart! Has several degrees, but you get the feeling that he hasn't quite learned the ropes of how to teach yet. Maybe 10 years down the road he'll be the most favorite! He taught as if we all had several degrees also. Not too good.
Dr. Gaye is one of the nicest guy you'll ever met. His teaching method is a bit unorthodox; his homework and project are extremely hard; but he is very laid back and is willing to give a good portion of partial credit. Take his class if you want to learn something have have challange.
I know him about 3 days (Yes! I just had him!) but I can tell he is very easy-going and really loves to teach. As he said, the more you practice, the more you earn. Homework? Yes, a lot. But it has a minimum require. If you are a hard working student, please take his class. If you just want the math credit, skip him and find another easy one.
If you are studying for engineering take Dr. Gaye. He takes a very indepth analysis of the calculus and doesnt skip a thing. However if you are taking calc 1 and thats it i would steer vary clear of him he is TOUGH. His tests can be fairly ridiculous.
just a warning, this guy is a good teacher, but his class is super hard. known for being the guy that wants you to put in 2+ hours a night. tests and HW is crazy hard, takes as much time as a full time job to do hw and pass this class with a decent grade
MAT217 omg. its been 4 years since ive had calc with santilli, i fear no derivative but if you dont have your ducks in a row all semester long you will get burried and fail. I wish I would have been more ontop of this class so much useful math that you can actually use (sorta like calculus is useful i guess its relative). Excellent about his hours.
Expects a lot from his students. "Calc III is hard" he will say if you complain about the work. Gives fair tests; he'll give a practice exam beforehand that is always very close to the real exam. DO ALL THE REQUIRED BUT NOT GRADED PROBLEMS! The final is made up exclusively of these questions. Don't take him if you don't have 2 hours/night to spare.
Extremely intelligent however extremely difficult. never had to drop a class before especially math. textbook was useless because he writes his own problems. homework and tests outrageously tough. not very clear in his lectures presents material and expects class to know it by the end of the day.
Very nice guy. However, made the class much harder then it should be. If you are thinking about taking math at MCC because it is easier think again! He had us doing senior level fluid dynamics projects! Barely Anyone passed!!
This class is absolutely ridiculous! It made me hate math. Homework packets are given and are graded for correctness and he won't help you with questions. He even tells the tutoring center not to help you! Tests are better but no one learns anything so everyone does bad. If you have to take math at MCC take it at Red Mountain!
He is a very hard teacher. He has high expectations. I know I could have done better in his class, I just didn't apply myself (got a C). However, he doesn't speak English well. He is quite hard to understand and he goes extremely fast over the material. I wouldn't take a class from him again. Not worth the headache.
He is hard and really hard to understand. He explains everything so complicated. When you ask him questions, he just repeats what he already said instead of explaining it in a simpler way. You have to rely on the book and your smartest peers to understand the material. If you do that, the final is easy because it is 10 completely random questions.
If you hate to learn and want to be a dispensable employee and citizen in society. Then don't take his class. Don't be upset that the man is obviously capable and will expect you to learn and work. Take this class if you want to do well in upper divisions
His accent is hard to understand at times. He is not friendly, not helpful. When you ask for further explanation, he just restates what he already said. He has no patience and a bad attitude. He has a PhD is math and expects you to understand everything the first time. Take Barkdoll instead. He is much more patient.
i actually liked this class even though it was really difficult and that usually doesn't happen lol. the teacher is cool. only 1 hw assignment per test but the hw is INSANE! only part i didn't like was the difficulty of the assignments but tests are way wayyy easier so don't drop the class after you flip through the first assignment!
Half of the work was straightforward & understandable with practice, the other half [which cropped up at surprising times, like on a timed test] were new applications not previously covered in book/lecture which must be derived from the concepts. Gaye's teaching is a nice challenge for math majors, but uselessly frustrating for anyone else.
The Homework, which he makes himself, is not related to the course work. He admits the homework is his pet project, it is also over 20% of your grade. Unless you have taken calculus 1 & 2 do not take this class,
Relatively to some other teachers at MCC Gaye is awesome. The class is not easy and takes a lot of work, but he will help you every step of the way. He actually cares that you learn the concept and makes it easy to get help. Much better than my previous math teacher.
Great teacher! His class is very difficult, but he is always willing to help. His homework is an isanely amount of work, but the tests are much easier. He is the best teacher I've ever had. Do the book problems throughout the semester because he uses those for the final. I would've had gotten an A if I did those.
Excellent teacher! One of the best I've had so far. Definitely a very challenging class with him as an instructor and requires a lot of work. The most difficult homework and the easiest tests. I would highly recommend taking MAT218 with Amadou Gaye if you are willing to work diligently.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! I would not recommend this class to anyone. The only way you would have a chance at getting all the work done is if this is the only class you took. His homework was so hard, the tutoring centers could not even help you. Unless you plan on going to his office everyday, do not expect to get a good grade!
Tough class. 20 total quizzes (mathzone), 3-5 per test, 5 green packet homeworks (very hard). Can drop worst test. 2 projects which are grade boosters. Tests are easier than HW, gives practice exams, tests usually 4-6 questions. Final was fairly easy, 10 questions. Office is ALWAYS busy.
Honestly, he is a very good teacher. Very smart, and doesn't dumb down the material. If you want to be successful in business you need to master the content and he knows that. Some people said that they couldn't understand his accent, but I disagree. Take this class, but work hard! Its college!
A lot of people did not like his class because it was "hard". obviously, it's math. i liked his course, i got a C but that was my own fault because i never did the homework. the tests are easy and the final is a piece of cake. he's a very smart and helpful teacher and his accent is not even bad.
Amadou is a brilliant, funny and exciting professor. Very fair in grading, makes the class fun and interesting. The only prof. whose door is always open and welcomes any lil question. Not an easy A, but hes the only MAT218 prof worth taking. There are 2/3 projects req'd, each worth as much as 1 exam so do them. Also he drops your lowest Exam Score.
Excellent professor who will push you. Be wary of the word "spicy" because that means the problem will be hard as hell. Difficult class but incredible professor. He will push you and the ones that complain just couldnt hang and that is life. Highly recommend this professor.
Amadou is one the most helpful teachers I have ever had. No need to lie in saying that his class is easy because it's not. However, he will help you always if you ask him. His class was very challenging and required lots of time, but it made me a real critical thinker. Now that I transferred to ASU I'm very thankful for having taken this class!
Absolutely useless and unhelpful.
Amadou is one of the most helpful professors I've ever had. His MAT218 class is by far the hardest class I've ever taken (I already graduated from ASU with two business majors). Nonetheless, it was a class that really made develop great critical thinking skills as well as a strong work ethic that helped throughout college. Greatly recommend him!
Amadou is the best professor to take 218 at MCC. It's a very hard class, but he is very helpful and will meet you where you're at. He is very generous with grading and really shows diligence in making sure his students understand material. He is always in his office and willing to help. He made a very hard subject much more manageable.
He is a great teacher. If you pay attention in his class, it is not too hard for you to understand. He helps you think critically. The final test was easy for students to upgrade the score. He is a nice and talent teacher
Great teacher, goes at a really slow pace and won't move on until everyone understands it. Only has 5 mandatory homeworks in the semester, the rest are for practice. Does a great job!
Very difficult course, with an insane amount of course work. 30+ hours of work per week with 6 projects that are unclear and quite difficult. Be prepared to put in the hours and make office visits often to get clarification on assignments. Do not take unless you have a very light course load. I would not recommend taking from this instructor.
This course is absurdly difficult if you take it online and don't consistently dedicate a good portion of your week to it. Amadou is extremely helpful, but he definitely takes calculus very seriously. You will get destroyed by the slew of assignments and individual projects unless you start them early and work on them each day.
This class is hard, however, Gaye is willing to help you. Ask questions if you don't understand.
Professor Gaye was very good at explaining the material. All of the homework was online and you get multiple attempts at the problems. Don't leave anything blank on tests or quizzes, he gives alot of partial credit. His test reviews were very hit or miss. Do not miss homework assignments, easy pass if you do them all. And like he stresses, practice
Professor Gaye is the most fair teacher I've had at MCC. The coursework is difficult, but he is generous when grading. Reviews were a hit or miss most of the time with so much material that he could barely give reviews beforehand. Pay attention and always contact him when you need help, you can ALWAYS reach him during office hours or online.
Great teacher! He is very helpful and enthusiastic. Class is hard and a lot of homework but staying focus in class and doing all of the homework will help with your grade and understanding. He is always there for you and replies emails very quick.
There are projects and the guides for completing them are given to you. Online homework and written homework. There are quizzes once a week. He is always available for help during office hours. His motto is to "practice, practice, practice" so you can get the concepts and how to do it. He is a good professor.
Coming from somebody who's failed a math class or two in the past, I've always held a very strong C or low B in this class. He really tries to help his students succeed. Partial credit is given on tests and quizzes as long as you try. One quiz a week and online homework every week with an occasional assignment from the book. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
This calc 3 class was hard, very hard, but doable. If you've ever taken math online, then you know it's difficult. The teacher gave 5 on campus tests, 5 individual projects, and one final group project. If you can keep up with your homework, then he rewards you with generous grading and open office hours. Very impressive and many thanks.
Professor Gaye is extremely helpful and truly wants his students to succeed. Make sure you stay on top of homework AND the projects he hands out. However he does allow a lot of time for them.
Man, what a math class, Gaye is the man, however he makes you work for that A and then some. He is the most fair teacher/grader I will ever see, he is very objective, almost to the point to perfection. It is a math class so expect to work a ton, however he will help you (most times). Just make sure you "practice your dance moves"
So It's only the third week of school and holy guacamoli. Im already at serious risk of falling behind, and its all because of HOMEWORK. This is my second time taking calc3, last semester I took it at ASU and got a high D, it was hard, ASU covers more content but this class is rivaling ASU workload, but with less content, and i know it already :P
Absolutely the best math teacher I have ever had. Class can be hard but he will work with you outside of the classroom until you understand it. Communicate with him, listen to the lectures, stay on top of assignments, and you should do well. He has wonderful explanations and really knows what he is talking about.
Great teacher. Very clear on what will be on tests. Gives practice tests. Always will help if needed. He is very smart and helps you learn the best way to do something. He realizes that calculators are used in every day life in the career field, and allows calculators on all tests. HW is on web assign, and is a must if you want a good grade
Very clear and *extremely* thorough. Outstanding quality of education, but at the cost of having an insane amount of work. I literally spent more time on this class than on Calc I and II combined. I did well on the tests, but wasn't able to complete all the projects; hence the poor grade. Probably best class for learning; worst class for easy grade
Great professor. He cares about your success, but you need to take the initiative. Nothing will be handed to you, it will be earned. Good lectures which are both entertaining & informative. Replies to emails promptly and his office is open, providing he is not teaching a class. Fair with his grading. On the right track, you'll still earn points.
This was my third time taking, I finally passed and it's only because of Professor Gaye. The material is tough but he's so thorough and if you reach out, he will not let you fall behind. He makes the lessons interesting and relates every math concept to its real world business application. I've always hated math, but Im sad this class is over!
Tough grader, but if you do the work you will pass.
The course subject is hard, but the professors does a good job explaining it. The 1st weeks are the hardest... I was ready to drop the class, but Mr. Gaye told me to hang in there. I'm glad I did, I was able to pass the class.
Very amazing teacher, the homework is a lot, but test is wayyyy easier than the homework. He gives a lot of examples during the class time if you take all of his notes and dont miss a day, do all your homework assignments, you will pass the class with an A. also he gives projects during semester to help understand material better just easy points!
One of the best math teachers Ive ever had! I loved this class the most out of my course load this semester and hope I can take him again in the future. He is hilarious and extremely knowledgeable in his subject/willing to help you succeed. Grades on steps not final outcome so studying they right idea will get you far! Again, loved this class!
Professor Gaye is one of the best math professors I've had in college. He goes over everything that you will learn at the beginning of the semester and follows the syllabus to the T. Lectures take up most of the class and he writes very fast, so take pictures if you can. Homework tends to be harder than the tests. He is also a lenient grader.
The best math professor I ever have.
His overall grading policy on tests & quizzes are very fair, but the rest of the class is very difficult. His teaching style of long kind of useful lectures doesn't match well with the tough subject. The notes he hands could be useful, but out are often incomprehensible. The homework is also, at times, horribly difficult. It's not easy to pass.
Goes faster than any instructor I've ever known. For someone who really struggles to focus in general, I knew I was screwed within the first couple weeks. Never slows down. Cool guy for sure but I couldn't learn very well from him at all. If you fall behind at all, good luck getting back on your feet with this professor.
The class is difficult which includes calculus, permutation and combination, business optimization as well as brief statistics, but he will try his best to explain anything and he did it. Must do the homework, all quizzes and tests will be the same concept along to the homework, but the way much easier. Extra credit is also available.
I took this class 9 years ago before continuing on to earning my BS from ASU. In retrospect, Amadou Gaye stands out as one of the most influential and memorable from the entire academic career. Most importantly you are forced to discover your ability to tackle a challenge head-on when life doesn't offer shortcuts.
Amadou seems like a nice enough professor, but he is staunch in his belief that Calc 3 should be a behemoth of a class with never ending coursework. The class was split into five 3 week segments. Every segment had 8 homework assignments, 6 discussion posts, an individual project, and a test on the final Friday of each section. PLUS A FINAL PROJECT!
Worst professor I've ever taken. He is uninstructive and will give little feedback. Does not curve and tests on a small subset of assignment material, and weights the tests heavily. I got a 5 on the calculus AP test in 10th grade, and I was .5 points of the highest score of his first exam with a 63%. Class average was 45% Avoid at all costs.
This is a very tough and time consuming class. Make sure you work ahead and devote time to it everyday. Professor Gaye was incredibly inconsiderate about a personal emergency I had. Don't expect him to be flexible, he has very strict rules. If you ask him a question, he'll say "you should know the answer," and will not help. Please don't take.
The worst class setup I have ever had he displeasure of being a part of. Prepare to pay for the class and the 75 dollar software so that the professor can do nothing the entire semester. No lectures, just an absolutely terrible experience. Average on first 3 exams - 40%, 45%, and 47%refuses to curve grades and blames performance solely on students.
Course had absolutely no lectures by professor himself. Pretty much one is expected to read the book and learn on your own. It is a hard course already so to have no teaching from the professor was not helpful. I would not recommend this course unless it was the only one you were taking and you have plenty of time to devote to teaching yourself.
His class... there's nothing redeemable about it. The workload is the by far highest of any class I've ever taken. The homework is either autograded online HW or papers with incomprehensible instructions. There is barely any instruction. Overall, it's very unprofessional. Out of 20 or so students all but three dropped by the end. Avoid at all costs.
There is SO MUCH WORK you drown in it. I had time for little else but math homework. If you fall behind then good luck getting caught up again. The grading in his class is weird and doesn't make sense. He is not good at answering questions in a manner that makes sense but leaves you more confused.
Worst math class I've ever taken. The lectures are garbage, and the professor is largely unhelpful, too. The workload in this class is so absurd that I've spent more time on this class alone than every other class combined. If you're taking this class, be sure to bookmark Khan Academy. It's the only way to pass this class without having a stroke.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Work super hard and it will pay off, but this class messed up my GPA. Consider another professor as tests are hard, homework often has tough questions not gone over in class, and he moves super quickly, not that he has many choices though.
Professor Gaye made this class an amazing experience not just for math, but the topic as a whole. His lectures are the clearest and he takes the time to respond any questions and explain every step. Very responsive for online questions and feedback. Expect lots of homework and a specially hard time during the early part of the class. Work pays off.
Amazing teacher! He is very good at understanding questions that people have, and explaining it in a way that is easy to comprehend. I never got an answer to a question that wasn't the exact explanation I was asking for. He is brilliant, funny and very respectable. Don't take his class if you aren't good at math, coursework is incredibly hard.
I would strongly advise against taking this professor. I am taking his online course, the homework is not only long, but also hard. For the exams, he gives out previous years exams a week early so you can get an general idea, only for then the actual exam to be little if at all like the previous years, and the similar questions are much harder. GL
This professor doesn't teach. He provides material and expects you to self-teach. He doesn't put any effort in. I want my teachers to teach me!! Throwing content at someone and expecting them to figure it out, isn't ok.
Do not take this class. His lectures do not match the homework and he makes this course unnecessarily hard. All notes will be taken by hand and he goes over material very quickly. There are quizzes once a week and tests are the majority of your grade.
Expect a heavy workload in this class, but Unstuck ai can be a helpful study tool alongside the textbook. The lectures may not be the most engaging, so staying focused is key to passing this challenging course.
Eventhough the class was online, he was an excellent professor when I took diferential equations with him. He was always there when I had questions and he always had an answer for them.
