Very good teacher. She takes quiz every class, lot of homeworks. 3 tests and a cumilative final. If you are looking for an easy teacher she is not the one. To get a good grade you must go to the class.she curves the final grade
Her teaching effect is good. If you want to get a good grade you have to do the homework and take the quiz in class. Go to class everyday especially when she goes over the test. If you stay for review she will help you a lot. Have study for this subject. She is the best teacher I have heard of.
She's a bit high school and her voice is really shrill, but you will learn the finance basics. If you do the homework, you'll be fine on tests and quizzes. Very passionate about the subject.
3.5 gpa student. Absolutely horrible teacher. Does everything in powerpoint, moves to fast. 50% of her students fail her class..annoying voice..not helpful at all. does not even show us how to work out a problem...just the answers..
i have a 3.6 gpa. Horrible teacher. People who studies everyday are the only once call her good. She shows how to solve problem in class but goes to fast and will not provide solutions for anything..I read somebody wrote that they heard she is the best...no way take anybody else and you will do better..i never got a c in any class except this one
not helpful at all. sanderson is lots better
this professor has no respect and consideration for the students. Her high pitched voice will most certainly drive you crazy. grading policy are absolutely not fair and the test difficulty is not in porportion to the lecture or the book content. Watch out !
Everything she does and say is all lies. Her grading policy, she does stick to it and she does not even help. She does not curve and says she will curve. She plays favoritism, which is sick! She does not like for you to asked too many questions. She is the worst teacher I ever had at UTD! BEWARE-DO NOT TAKE HER!
She has a very good experience in teaching finance and it shows in her teaching. Well organized and little bit strict. But do you think you can learn Finance without discipline. Quiz, Discussion assignments makes her class interesting. If you would like to make a good base in Finance then you should attend her class. Tough but a great teacher.
She is a horrible professor and is way too hard. She teaches her students like children and rushes through everything. Does not prepare you for tests
AVOID!!!
I had heard complaints about this professor, but she must have undergone a drastic change. I did not experience any of the problems described. She was very pleasant in class, covered the material well, prepared fair tests, and made herself available for help. I would definitely take her again for another class.
I don't think she is as bad as most people may think. She seemed nice enough, however, her high pitched voiced made it extremely difficult to sit through her class early in the morning. Tests are fairly difficult. Lots of online assignments.
This is a very HARD class and it takes a lot of time outside of class to do the homework problems. But the homework helps the exams to be a little easier. She doesn't believe in curves. Numerous students in class got a D and one of the students got a 79.99, and she still gave it a C+
This class was very challenging. Professor was difficult to understand. She moved too quickly for students to keep up in Excel labs. Quizzes at the beginning of every class. Exams were a mixture of multiple choice from the lectures and several difficult problems to compute in Excel.
The textbook is easy enough when you read.Once you start doing her labs, they become the hardest thing because there isn't enough time assigned and you are mostly hurrying to keep up with the entries, but with zero understanding.Beats me why UTD charges a stinking fortune but only has one terrible,GPA-killing instructor for this course.
Zips through labs and expects you to do homeworks assignments that count towards your final grade based on the same labs you barely understand.Tests are too long for the time allocated. The class will probably kill your GPA,but her class is required for finance majors, and frustratingly, she's all UTD has to offer for the course.
DO NOT TAKE HER. Her grading format is worse. You will not know what you missed on the exam because she doesn't give the exam back.she cut off points on things which is not even part of grading.eg.( if your all your answer a,b,c & d suppose to be in % and you write as .01 . then she will penalize more points than the worth point. STAY AWAY.
All the people complaining are people who don't try. I study for her exams a day before, studying what she went over in lab, the quizzes, and practice problems and made a 100 on 2 of my tests. There were 33 100's in the last exam. If you pay attention in class, do the assignment, and quizzes, there's no way you won't make an A.
She was very help and knowledgable, how exams required a lot of studying but were very easy if you worked all practice problems.
Her exams were easy if you worked you homework, lab assignments and practice problems. Following that roadmap allowed me to get a 99 on the final
Her class is very interesting, lots of practical examples. You will do well if you work homework assignments, labs and all practice problesm several times. This is the roadmap to get a good grade in this class plus she responds to all emails promptly
Taking this class will prepare you for the working world. Her assignments will challenge you to get best out of you. You should read the chapters ahead of class or you will not do well. You should work all assignments and rework them and you will do well in her exams. Reading the slides will help you pass her quizes. I passed this class.
Class taken online - excellent class! The textbook was clear and easy to understand and follow. Professor is attentive and is great at answering questions. Her lectures are clear and relevant to the course material. This class turned out to be much easier than I thought it would, and I learned a lot.
The best class I had in finance in UTD. She simply makes you an investment analyst from scratch. Then she helps you to perform all financial analysis on Excel again.
Best Finance professor ever
Great professor. The class is difficult but she gives you alot of examples, she is also available to help outside of class. She does go a little fast in the excel lab, but she does provide the answers and how to do it. You must go to class if you want to do well. If you do the quizzes, rework them, do the reviews you will do great.Highly Recommend!
Amal was my favorite professor at UTD. Come to class on time, take notes, and study. The practice exams will help you with the tests. Outstanding Finance Professor.
Stay away! You will be limited for time to do the quiz, Lab excel quiz, and her excel lecture walk through in the lab. Does anyone else teach this class beside her?
She has so many rules and is super strict. She locks the doors during an exam, takes note if your phone is out or goes off to dock your grade, and same with side conversations. Quiz everyday. She brags about how 1/3 of her class had to retake it. I wish there was someone else teaching this course. do your best because she teaches all the sections.
She is am amazing professor. If you do the practice problems and pay attention in class it is very realistic you will do well. She makes herself available and cares about her students. It is obvious she puts a lot of effort into her class and examples. I now look for the classes she teaches in order to take them. She will prepare you well.
This professor is great. Lectures are clear and expectations for the class are reasonable. Reading the assigned chapters was not neccesary, I only referred to the book when I needed clarification on a concept. Listen to the lectures and work the practice problems. The end of the semester assignment was very straight forward.
Avoid if possible. She is a professional which means she treats her students like adults (many will find this hard to cope with, hence her strictness). She's fanatical about quizzes, which you have almost every class. We all have other classes and a life to live, can't she understand a quiz every class is really unneeded ? Pace of teaching is FAST.
She'a a GREAT professor! Many people complain about her but the reality is - she doesn't treat her students like children. Come to class prepared and act like an adult (don't be on your phone & having side conversations). If you actually study, like you should for your classes at a university, you will pass!
Financial modeling should be on a bases of understanding and using models to make financial decisions. What you will learn How to use excel and working out equations that are not relevant in the real world. She has no study guide for her exams and they are hard. I have made failing grades and I study a lot.
The material was not difficult to understand, but in our term, we have 24 quiz in one semester, it was hard to complete all of them with good grade. The exam was not difficult if you pay attraction in class. Professor Amal will answer your question if you ask.
Probably the worst professor I've had at UTD. Everything about this class is unclear, expectations, test material, schedule. The professor is very disorganized and will not give you a straight answer to anything. Be prepared to do a lot of research at home because lectures are useless. That being said the class is easy if you know what you're doing
She is a great professor and wants all of her students to succeed. Many students don't pass her class simply because they don't study and put any effort into it. If you attend class, do all of the assignments and go over all assignments in excel for the tests you will pass just fine. Get on her good side, she's very nice if you do!
Awesome professor! Whoever took her class and didn't get a B or higher should not be doing finance. She is very clear and goes over problems step by step. Bonus on every assignment and exam. She explains topics in a way that every person will understand. If you are a slacker, don't blame her. She expects respects and she deserves it.
If she teaches fast. Here is an Idea, how about practice at home, or visit her during her office hours and ask for additional help. I got an A in this class and that was by coming to class and paying attention, doing the homework, and practicing all the review problems. And Yes I didn't always get it in class but id go home and review.
She's a great teacher. If you understand business finance and calculations you'll do fine. The practice problems before exams are a lot harder than the exams. Homework and exams on par. She's strict but good. Just know the basics of finance and you'll do great.
There are extra credit points that you can earn from each homework. Homework is similar to class notes. If you pay attention, you'll be fine. Quizzes are concept questions and she does have practice problems before the tests.
This is a hard class because there is very little slides, and lectures are guided through Excel. She knows so much that she goes way to fast, but to her it is normal speed. With that being said this class is completely up to you on how you perform, you have to definitely work in here! quizzes are pretty hard
She's a good professor, but this is a hard class. You can do well on the exams if you pay attention in class, review the material at home, and get the bonus questions on the assignments right. The quizzes are quite hard because they cover theoretical concepts, so you need to put in that extra effort. Overall, a very good way to get better at Excel!
Attend/particip not a part of your grade but you will not understand what's going on if you don't go to class. She doesn't post the homework assignments online until the day they are due so if you miss the class where she gives the assignment out you're SOL. This is basically an Excel course that expands on your acct/fin knowledge. Tough course.
She is rude. She goes way too fast and nothing makes sense. Her notes are all over the place which makes her assignments hard to do. Worst professor I've ever had at UTD.
I highly recommend taking this course the semester after you finish FIN3320. Basically you take the concepts you learned in FIN320 and use Excel to solve them. She is a very tough teacher but provides 2 pt bonuses on HW and exams. 3 Excel exams (72 pts), 3 material quiz/exams (15 pts), 13ish HW assignments (13 pts) of 100 pts total.
Basically an excel course. She does a great job at taking you step by step, but she does go way too fast, but don't be afraid to ask for clarification. Tough accent to understand at times, but she's straightforward. She WILL call you out if you're on your phone or talking.
The key to this class is to just show up and practice. She is hard to follow when you're working through excel, but she is more than willing to slow down if you ask her to. Tests are pretty easy if you practice the problems she gives you. Again, you'll be fine if you show up and practice. This is coming from someone who rarely gets A's in JSOM.
I took this class online and thought it would be a bad decision, but it was the best! She is super nice and provides clear, thorough lectures for every topic on Elearning. She will break it down until you can easily understand. She provides plenty of examples. The core grading consists of quizzes and several exams. Take Dr. A for FIN 6301!!
Great professor. Some people complain that she is rude, but she just wants you to pay attention and not walk out in the middle of the class. Just make sure you work the problems and study her first lecture for the quiz.
This was one of the worst classes I have had at UTD. This was mainly due to the professor. The professor was consistently rude to student. She would get annoyed at students asking questions and when asked to slow down. Her quizzes are extremely hard but the exams and assignments are okay.
The class is really beneficial in the future in whatever field you decide to go in. BUT she goes VERY FAST during lecture. Talk to a friend or look at your phone for a second you are already behind. Show up to class, because everything is done on excel and also she like to see people who are trying. TALK TO HER WHEN YOUR DONE WITH EXAMS. Good luck
An okay teacher when it comes to material, pretty boring though. The assessment quizzes are what will kill most people as they are conceptual and she does a horrible job of explaining/preparing students for them. As far as tests go you need to do the practice problems posted and you should be fine.
Prof. Amal is very passionate about the topic and does her best to teach you the conceptual part of the material and how to apply it in excel. Best to go to every class so you don't miss the in-class excel work. Tests are excel-based and pretty easy, but quizzes are conceptual and very hard, so be ware of those. Overall, great professor.
If you ask her a question she will not answer you and be rude enough to say "If you didn't understand it in class I can't help you". She is the worst teacher I have ever had because she truly doesn't care to have you learn the material, even when you seek to from her. She goes fast in class. AVOID HER or register another time.
There are three exams and quizzes that determine the final grade. Attendance is not mandatory however I highly recommend attending. Exams based on the class exercises and homework. The quizzes are based on the lecture slides. She is very kind and genuine. I always asked her to clarify examples and as long as you pay attention she answers.
She does a great job of going through examples with you in class that are similar to the homework and exams. I never found a way to prepare for the quizzes since they were conceptual which she didn't touch much on in class. She posts all solutions to the homework and in class exercises. Overall, the course was very easy and I would recommend.
She goes through everything very simply and you will understand what she teaches. It is not hard to make a 105 on her tests.
Straightforward course - the professor shows all the different ways you can calculate the information. The material is heavy, but no need for a book unless you do not understand the concepts. The information you need is in the lectures. I came into this class thinking it was going to bring down my GPA, but the material was clear and to the point.
Literally one of the sweetest professors I've ever had. She really takes her time explaining and makes sure everyone understands the material. The class is straight forward, 5 hw assignments and one midterm (she only teaches half of the class for the semester). Really such a great professor and an even kinder person! :)
All of the negative reviews of Dr. El-Ashmawi are for very specific reasons!!! Dr. El-Ashmawi is truly a wonderful professor. She answers any of your questions, goes through the material very slowly, and gives extra credit on homework assignments. Tests are extremely easy and are covered from test reviews. Take Dr. El-Ashmawi if you want to get A+
Idk how she has the rating she does, she is great at what she does & makes sure you are understanding the material well. There were 11 hw assignments 3 tests & quizzes. Bonus on each hw & test so its easy to get a good grade! She has transferred to online so well! I recommend you print out her exercises & take notes like that, then go back in excel
Dr. Amal is one of the best professors I have ever had. Sure she goes a little fast, but if you have questions then she is more than happy to go back and help you out. If you do the excel practices with her and do all the practice problems, you are basically guaranteed an A. The key to this class is to take advantage of the reviews and to practice!
I thought this course would be extremely hard but with professor El-Ashmawi teaching it was a breeze! She is very nice and caring and willing to go through any questions and steps from the very beginning. There are plenty of opportunities to get the grade you want. The start of the course is easy but gets a bit harder but there's extra credit!
Easy course. Got an A+ with very minimal effort. Lots of homework but they are easy to complete and offer bonus points. The exams are basically the same as homework and also has bonus points. This class should NOT be stressful. One thing I did not like is the speed of which grades are released, shouldnt matter too much if youre getting 100s.
Easiest class I have ever taken. I thought this class would be extremely hard but nope its really easy. The first exam covers the basics from Fin 3320 which is a joke if you have some sort of brain. I initially though the course would get harder after this first exam but the difficulty stayed the same and I ended up with an A+ with minimal effort.
Easiest Graduate class I have ever taken. All the assignments and quizzes are on connect which allow you to actually learn the material. 12 Discussion Board Posts throughout the semester, which isn't bad because she gives multiple threads a week to which you can reply to. and one assignment on paper which wasn't bad either. I def recommend!
Easy A. There's no exams, just 4 quizzes, which I liked. The quizzes are done through Connect and are open note/book. I put together excel files while doing the HW (which is graded), so come quiz time I just had to update numbers. I do wish the HW had more questions about concepts rather than just calculations, because concepts are on the exam too.
She changed the exams from virtual to in person for the final, even though it said in the syllabus all exams would be virtual. Her reasoning for this was that not enough people showed up to class. Keep in mind when people werent showing up, there was a COVID outbreak on this campus. Trash trash trash
Excellent professor! She explains the concepts so clearly and guides you through the functions/tools in Excel. A very structured class. She spends lectures explaining the concepts and doing example problems. HW is directly based on lectures. 3 Excel exams, 3 concept quizzes. She takes her time and answers questions. Pay attention and you're good.
This professor was great! Her lectures were easy to understand and exams were pretty easy and just like the homework. She gives extra cred if you participate in class, but make sure you read the rules on her hw properly because she will take off points for small things like not highlighting ur answer. Just do the hw and sample probs and you'll pass
To avoid panicking on Excel part, know that Q's are in jumbled order so you might get tough ones first,so solve the easy ones first and avoid panick/brain shut down. Also use the hw and change values in similar Qs to get answer instead of doing everything from start to avoid losing time, unless doing from scratch is preferred.
The professor is not strict and the subject is easy to adapt
would mark the whole question wrong if u didn't move the decimal place over or write what unit the value was
She okay professor I took her class in the summer and the excel part is easy but the quiz part is very hard
She is extremely difficult to learn from, she takes 2-3 attendances per class, she will ask you to do a practice problem and will not go over it after unless you ask. She does not give us any formula/cheat sheet on these diffficult exams and barely curves each exam. She will close class notes and connect assignments the day before the exam. SOS
One of the worst professors I have ever had. The lecture slides were absolutely awful and difficult to read. I would've appreciated having access to the actual textbook slides and not a poorly made copy. Very difficult to understand what she's saying. She doesn't go over the examples unless someone asks. As a finance major, I'm very disappointed.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She gives extremely difficult exams, and then barely curves them even when the whole class fails. Very inaccesible outside of class, does not even respond to emails. Her lectures are also very unhelpful, and she does not go over any practice problems. No formula sheet on exam and never enough time to finish the exam.
NO formula sheet (other classes got), little/NO curve (other profs curve), attendance 3 per class. Overwhelming slides & no step-by-step work shown for practice problems. NO EXCEPTIONS for exam if sick, scarf down meds & struggle through it (speaking from exp). No restroom during exams (even testing center lets us go). Absolutely unempathetic.
Lectures are boring, tests are hard and barely curved, prof does not want her class to succeed and it seems like she wants people to fail.
Had a great semester with Professor Ashmawi. She explains concepts clearly on the board, not just slides. You'll definitely need to put in some time outside to learn the concepts clearly, and you'll be fine if you know how to use the financial calculator inside and out. Curves are solid, she shares exactly what's on her version of the final exam.
She took attendance 2 times in class, and participation is 4 questions on the lecture taught that day. Exams were bad, concepts weren't taught correctly and she removes exam practice the night before. I did good on the 1st exam so I ended with an A, but the last two exams was bad. We're given less time for the exam and u gotta self-teach everything.
i straight up just feel like she HATES us. She is SO hard to reach outside of class-- she does not answer emails... ever. If you need help outside of class... girl just ask google or a friend. She does not care if you're sick or you have a real emergency pop up. You do not get to make up your exam and you do not get an excused absence.
Professor Ashmawi is an amazing instructor who cares about her students. Her lectures are easy to follow and is always willing to re-explain a concept if needed. While her exam was a little challenging, if you study the in-class examples, notes, and homework, you should be able to pass. She does curve at the end.
