Amanda is an amazing prof, very passionate about marketing! For quizes, midterms and final you get to take a sheet of paper with ur notes on it however u want as long as its written by u, she also gives marks on quizes if u really beleive an answer is right. She's a fun prof who loves what she does TAKE HER!
She's friendly, outgoing, and very helpful. She really knows her stuff. But she's definitely not a pushover so you still gotta work hard to get a good mark from her. Fair marker.
She is responsible and very very extremely strict. She marks extremely hard especially for the marketing project. No exceptions for lateness. 25% off if late. =/
GPA killer for sure
quizzes are hard but you get to use a cheat sheet for every quiz. the course isn't that difficult, you only have one major project to do.
Well she starts off nice, for the five minute intro, turns in to a monster in regards to group work, attendance, phones etc. Then is all nice again. She's one of those profs whose nice to your face... but will stab you in the back where marks are concerned. Group project is the backbone of her class, she teaches nothing because of it.
--> The class sucks <--, reason? She doesn't teach you the book does, tests everywhere, super strict on a project thats due in the end of the term, and her final has 18 chapers in it. FML
she is extremely helpful and gives a lot of time to work on the final project in class. the course isn't hard, you get a cheat sheet for every test, quiz and final.
she is a fair marker and a nice teacher
GPA KILLER! Doesn't teach you anything that will help you understand how to do the group project. Expects a lot from the project without teaching anything usefull. Quiz's every week prior to learning that weeks material. You get to bring a cheat sheet, but still the quizes are retarted. Prepare to teach yourself the course
A fair, but hard marker. I received a good mark this class, but it certainly came with A LOT of effort. Aside from that, Amanda has a great sense of humour and knows her material inside and out. She does her best to present the material in a unique way, with visuals and discussions that often challenge the textbook. Work hard and ye shall succeed
Great prof. She is there to pass on her experience. And if you don't ask questions she assumes you understand what's going on. I had issues with my group project so I went to her office hours and se was super helpful and understanding. Plus she is nice to look at
Amanda is really good, take her class you won't regret. I really enjoyed this course with her, she is very fair and kind and helpful. 4 quizzes, very fair, 2 assignments also fair, and 2 exams, exams are a bit long but if you've studied you're good. I would take more classes with her.
I have no idea what marketing is about after taking this class but still passed which is good. I just needed the credit to grad. She presents concepts in class that are on the exams, therefore attendance and attention is crucial. The highlight of the semester was when she jumped up and down to clarify an example. Wow.
This teacher is amazing!! She will go out of her way to help you get a good grade as long as you actually care about it too!! Lets you use notes for exams and quizzes, super leniant as long as you know what you are doing. As long as you're putting in an effort she is there to help you! GPA Booster!!!
Amanda, is extremely unclear and is a very hard marker. I would not recommend taking her. She totally picks favorites before hand and marks accordingly.
Came into this class interested in marketing, now have no interest what so ever. Very difficult marker. Doesnt really teach you you pretty much have the read the textbook and teach yourself. Huge project assigned worth 30%, a lot of material for the project is not in the textbook or covered in class. 18 chapters covered in class. Managed to get a B
Good attitude but an unfair marker, if you don't suck up to her you'll receive a low mark even if you try really hard. She picks favourite students and if you're not one, you'll receive a low mark in this class. I suggest taking a teacher with better ethics regarding marking.
I tried very hard in the class and from day one she did not like me for some reason. Gave me low marks where others got high marks for minimum effort.
We're half way through the semester. This is the first time this class is being offered and not only me, but everyone I talked to in the class has learned nothing. She's taking forever to mark our assignments. We have no feedback from her. No clarity. She has not set any expectations whatsoever. Has favourites.
I had a free elective so I decided to take an online class with her. Bad choice! She gives you NOTHING. Basically, you teach yourself and then if you have any questions, post them in the forum. How can you ask questions when you don't know what you're expected to do? And plus, I didn't pay $$$ to teach myself! That's not MY job, it's the teacher's!
Assignments and the class overall was very unclear. What was expected was a mystery. Her teaching style is very one way, and if students are lost I'd recommend to slow down, ask students to do examples etc. A lot of people struggled with what doesn't need to be such a difficult course to pass or do well in.
BY FAR THE WORST PROF I'VE HAD. UNFAIR MARKER, HAS FAVORITES AND IF YOU DONT SUCK UP, YOU'LL GET A LOW MARK REGARDLESS OF YOUR EFFORT. DO NOT TAKE HER, BETTER OFF EVEN MISSING A SEMESTER OVER TAKING HER.
Very strict and assigns questions that are extremely hard to decipher. If you want to pass her class, you MUST have an A+ in accounting and have a HEAVY background of Marketing. Find a better prof next time. Cheat sheets don't do so well. Teaches well. Gives Difficu;t tests and exams. She gave me D's on almmost all of them.:'(
A good mark is possible if you study the textbook! High standards, but generally fair. Ability to use cheatsheets for everything is a godsend.
This class requires you to work in group so by the time midterm is done. you will eventually find your group members dissappear. Dont ever think she will let you merge group. she will tell you will do better without the group, challenge people alone, do the major project alone (25%). sound so easy when she say it but you need to have a strong group
Good teacher but make sure you get in a good group for group projects!
Thought she was great... took her class this summer... You do have to work hard, but she is very helpful... I'd like to have her as a prof again for sure
She is very clear about how to succeed in this course. Yes it is challenging and you'll probably get poor marks to start with. But its part of the learning process and you will end up a far more talented student if you make it through.
High expectations, but great prof! Class was never boring & definitely learned a lot. Read text before class and you are guaranteed an A (this is university now). Projects are fun and great learning experience for people interested in Marketing! Would take another class again with her.
Very clear on how to get an A+. Read before class (it's university), participate in class, get a good group for the project and you got yourself an A or A+. If you need help, go to Amanda immediately and she helps you to the best of her abilities.
She is very hard... There is no way I could have ever passed without ENTR3140 .com... I mean she is a nice lady but her expectations are way too high
The class wasn't difficult, however there was a lot of work required. There is a group project.
I got a rather low mark on my first major assignment, but it wasn't worth very much. The average on the midterm exam was 63%, but I somehow was able to get 99%. You are allowed to bring a hand-written, double sided cheat sheet for quizzes and exams. She's very engaging and keeps my 3 hour class interesting.
Considering this is one of those classes where you have to do a big project, I thought it was godsend that it was individual effort not group because you do not have to rely on others especially last minute.
Hardest class I've seen, but she is more than willing to try and help and meet you at any time. Need to put in 15+ hours of work per case.
Amanda is very strict in marking group projects. We worked so hard on the project and she failed us !! I don't recommend her at all.
At first she seemed like an awesome teacher, but she is very difficult to please. There's a lot of material in the course, including 3 group project assignments,a quiz every class (or every other), and home assignments. The end of the semester was crammed and disorganized. Would not recommend her. Her marking is inconsistent. So frustrating.
Nice teacher, explains things well but has VERY high expectations, midterm and final are really tough need lots and lots of studying to just pass, other than that interesting class keeps you entertained.
Hoping this was an 'off' semester for her like people have said. So many people failed the final. Everyone perceived her long answer questions differently - it was written very poorly. Otherwise she is a nice teacher and knows what she's talking about.
Way too high expectations. deducted marks on group project for nothing. only about 13 people left after midterm, and probably only 3 people got a reasonably good mark (above C) wastes class time. spends 1.5 hours marking a 20 question multi choice quiz. this was not an off semester for her. she really is a demon. thrives off of failing students.
Fairly easy class; just read her material and you're good to go. If you bother to open the text you're pretty much guaranteed an A.
Great Proff. Read the book, show up to class, and you'll do fine. She read through our group assignment before it was due, and told us what to fix. Very helpful.
High mark achievable with litter effort. Makes a harder class easy. She has hands on experience which is great. If you ever need help she provides it, but you should be fine on your own. I'd take her again if I could. Easy A
Fair course, she let's us have cheat sheets to her exams which make them a breeze. Group projects are easy. Attendance isn't exactly mandatory. Easy to do well in her class.
Yes, this course is unbelievably time consuming. However, Amanda is amazing and will help you anytime you need it just ask. She goes out of her way to help you. She is the best prof I've ever had at KPU, you learn a lot!!
GPA killer. nice lady, however, do not be deceived as she will rip you apart when it comes to marking
pop quizzes x5. case analysis per week, be sure to ace the midterm and excel through participation. one final project. and above all else, have a group chosen before the first day of class.
Don't take Amanda Bickell if you want to pass this course. She is so mean and never give your chance to take participation marks. Also, if your group members drop the class, she will let your do the final presentation alone. I will never ever take her class again.
Found this class to be very useful for understanding how to work better in groups. Amanda teaches the class with passion, is funny, and makes classes entertaining. Attend classes, and participate. Not a difficult class, but there is opportunities here to actually learn valuable information to use in the future work place.
Be sure to work hard and comeparticipate for every class and hand in every assignment. Don't be discourage if you fail the midterm and the first individual case, there are still more marks for you to catch up until the end of semester. If you have any worries talk to Amanda. She is smart, helpful and always available to help you out.
Never take this class with her unless your prepared to do 1 paper per week,.Most work you'll ever have to do for a class. Seriously a full report is necessary just for participation. In addition, she marks amazingly hard and literally grills you in class
Amanda is definitely not an easy prof. At the same time this is someone who you will actually learn something from. She is always available to speak to and answer questions. She is a hard prof in comparison to others, but if you put in the time and effort you can get through it and end up learning a lot at the same time. MAKE SURE YOU PARTICIPATE!
This is by no means an easy class or an easy professor, but you get out exactly what you put into this course. There is a big time commitment required, especially within groups, so choose a good group and hold everyone accountable. Prepare for classes well in advance and participate! Lots of valuable learning in this course.
Thank you for the great term!!!
I really liked Amanda. She explains the course material thoroughly and class discussions are interesting. She is EXTREMELY slow at marking which made the class more difficult as feedback is 100% necessary to improve. In all, I would take a class w/ her again. Shes a knowledgeable, caring professor. PS, don't expect an A - you're lucky if you pass
Fantastic prof but insanely difficult marker. She does a great job of keeping things interesting and relates things to the real world. She is very clear on what she wants, and it is a fun class. The downside though, is she marks ridiculously hard. It's impossible to get an A. Great prof, but you'll probably get a C. VERY HARD, but learned a lot.
I will never take another class with Amanda again. She is an insanely hard marker. Do not expect to take her class and get through it in a breeze. More than half of my class was gone at the end of the term. The way the course is structured, 80% of the marks is due at the end of the term so you don't even know if you are going to pass. BEWARE!!
An extremely hard marker and have high standards. Very picky and requires more from your case analysis than other profs. She'll grill you during participation but the whole point of the course is defending your analysis and ideas, so just try. Never expect a high mark, just be happy if you pass.
Amanda is one of the best profs I have ever had. She genuinely cares about her students and she wants you to succeed. She structures this course a lot different than most people are used to but it honestly improves your writing skills. If you show up for class, participate and pay attention to her requirements you will do well in this course.
she gives us group projects and asks us to write about the conflicts and other issues that we went through during our project and if we dint go through conflict and cant write about it, she fails you. she thinks her classes are going to change perceptions or something. the worst grader i've ever taken please avoid her
People confuse a hard course with a hard teacher. ENTR 3100 is a really hard course that involves lots of time to find all the problems and implement a good business decision. Amanda is one of the best profs who teach this course as she knows what she is doing and describes everything in a brilliant way.
ENTR 3100 is a tough course regardless of the prof you take. Amanda is very caring about her student's success, but she expects you to put the effort in as well. To succeed in this course, use her office hours frequently and the first 4 weeks are crucial in understanding case concepts, so study them. Get ready to use analytical tools to defend answers
Shes a great prof who cares about your learning outcome. This course is MEANT to have a steep learning curve that many students whine and cry about because its not the typical classroom learning they're used to. If ur not ready for real-life business challenges and prefer to continue with hypothetical classroom examples, then this class is not for u
The course itself is a hard course but Amanda helps you understand the requirements and reasonings on as to why they're crucial to your success. Make sure to understand and know how to use the analysis tools on the assignments. Like previously mentioned, its the course not the prof. Tough marker but fair. Weeds out the ones not prepared for nxt lvl
Amanda is an amazing, no BS kind of the prof; straight forward and to the point. This is a super heavy load class in the beginning but tapers off after the mid-term. The participation and debate were fun and the online quiz was free mark for your grade bottomline. This is a kind of class that you can't study for it, you must hone your skills!
Amanda failed my first attempt - my group got a 30% for our final report and she gave me a 50% on my learning journals. It wasn't bc I wasn't doing the work and that I had a bad group - it was simply bc she was a very detailed and tough grader. I passed with a B the 2nd time around. Despite the difficulty, I highly recommend her if u want to learn.
ENTR3100 is a hard course. Amanda has a higher expectation for students, so don't skip the class, especially the first class. Make sure you understand her requirement of case at the first 2 weeks - read the grade rubic!. If you don't understand, go ask her. MBTN, quizzes and debate are the things which help you to boost your mark.
Amanda is a great prof who really challenges you and pushes you outside your comfort zone. She has high expectations and is a tough marker but because she wants you to be able to apply the course skills to real life. This a really hard course though and I ended up failing; so, although Amanda was great, I wouldn't take her again.
Took Fall 2017 Still the hardest class I've ever taken- its "subsequent" course ENTR 4200 was massively easier because of the conditioning I received from Amanda. Whatever you do, don't get discouraged when you get 30-50% on everything up to the midterm- just stick with it and things will (probably) get better. Do not skip any homework either.
The reason why less students fail her class as opposed to others is because of her hard marking. After writing the midterm exam I learned that students with other professors such as Neil and Ho yee are allowed to bring typed up footnotes with them to their midterm and final exam. This would have saved students so much time during the exam.
Its not Amanda thats a hard marker. Its the grading rubric she uses to mark cases. Study that rubric and write your cases according to it. Do the online quizzes/hwk, it really counts at the end. Even though some cases are not for marks, do them. Go to her office hours and put in effort. NOT AN EASY CLASS. Come to class prepared.
Although Amanda is a tough marking teacher, taking her class would learn lots of knowledge and method how to write a professional business report. Also, she is the boss of ENTR 3100.
WHOA what a super awkward prof, like forget about the content, whoever you take it with, it is hard but man she really loves grilling her students. Try to get something wrong in her class, she will put you on blast. Don't avoid eye contact but don't look straight at her, she loves picking on students. But spares no chance at seeing you fail. Avoid
She gives you a mark that you actually deserve. Do not try and cheat your way in this course or else she'll know and will just fail you. Do your SWOT analysis first and meet her during her office hours to review if what you have is right or wrong. If it's wrong, she'll tell you exactly what you need to fix. JUST DO EVERYTHING SHE SAYS!
If you want a professor that will challenge you, the look no further. She will destroy you in the beginning but she will build you back up better than before. Take her class if you want to be prepared for ENTR. Take someone else if you are lazy and useless. ENTR for life!!!!
Amanda is a tough marker, however she is a fair marker. She tells you exactly what she expects of you and gives you the grading criteria. The difficult part is mastering how to apply the criteria to every case. Once you do you will realize she is a fair professor who only has your best interest at heart by challenging you.
Worst professors, do not take her class, this course is useless
Useless course and useless prof who does not know how to follow simple instructions and students preferences.
As an ENTR instructor, she could have done a better job on being open ended. Instead, she chooses to be a bit biased in her decision making such as saying all the positives on one option and all the negatives on another option. Horrid human being. In business, there is no right or wrong answer. It seems she does not understand that.
She is the best. I am taking her class and I can assure you, if you work hard/smart, you should be just fine. It is an interesting course, so useful when you are working. She is slick, fast in her response, and her comments/instructions are crisp clear. The course itself is not easy and the clear grading rubric make it predictable.
This class is damn hard but Amanda really makes you feel like it is possible for you to succeed. She is willing to help you and there is class time given to help with reports. Hard work and attending all classes will pay off. Definitely would recommend taking this class with her.
Bickell I know you read these comments. This one is tailored just for you. Honestly you are just atrocious. Like sure the course itself is hard but you teaching it with that pathetic attitude of yours is not hellping. Seriously is an early retirement in your near future? Now, that would be the second best thing that happened to kpu, after it opened
Amanda is an incredible person and prof. The class itself is difficult but she provides you with the necessary tools and feedback to get through it. She's very helpful and always there to answer questions! 3100 is hard but Amanda helps you understand the material so you can use it in the future. Nothing but good things to say about her.
She is nice and passionate about ENTR 3110. Applying concepts learned throughout the course will earn you a high mark on everything! The group project was a bit vague, she doesn't help much either. I feel as if she made this course harder than it actually is... I would recommend her I guess.
Amanda has a lot of mixed reviews because she is a prof that will challenge you. If you don't really see the bigger picture of LEARNING then don't take her class. Once you get to know her, you get to find that she is seriously smart, witty and will help you. Has a tough love type of vibe but will help u become a better student if u put the work in.
I've done 3100 & 3110 with her. 3110 Amazing, engaging fun lectures, & well-structured learning; I highly recommend her; this class is her forte. 3100 Difficult class period, shes transformative leadership style, she really believes in you & pushes you to excel (Tough Love). This class is about working hard & continual improvement. I recommend her.
Amanda is a good prof!, the course load is very intensive and the marking rubric is very difficult but she makes the lectures engaging and does the most that she can to help you succeed if you show initiative to improve your understanding
Worst prof ever, try to avoid
Not clear on proving homework/report instructions, never provide proper feedbacks for students work. Avoid her classes no matter what.
Amanda explains concepts very well, she will give you feedback on assignments and make sure you follow the feedback for your next ones. She is a bit of a tough marker but follow the instructions EXACTLY as they are and the rubric and you'll do good.
Amanda is very helpful, caring and knowledgeable in business. If you put the work in and have the mindset of learning life long business lessons, Amanda can teach you important business analytic thought processing skills. Follow the rubric to a T and always doing your assignments early. Assignments I did poorly on were due to time constraint issues
As long as you follow her grading rubrics, dedicate hours of work to the class, and put thought into your assignments, it is not difficult to get a good mark! Also, check the course outline for due dates frequently because there are lots of assignments and due dates can pop up unexpectedly.
There are professors that want you to succeed and then there's Amanda. Highly advise against taking any courses with her. There are many other great profs at KPU who actually care to see you succeed and want to help you. Amanda doesn't care, not sure how she's still able to teach this course.
If you are one of those students that are always going for the A, then you might do well in this course. If not then avoid this prof. There is like 4-6 hours of homework the first week. Lectures go full 3 hours and you need to look for external sources for your answers. If you only do as the sources she shows you, you won't get more than 50%.
4-6 hours just to complete the homework on weekly basis. She uses external sources as her lecture which is hilarious, why would us pay tuition for something we can easily find online. A very tough grader. She is the type of prof who wants to see students fail.
Im gonna be honest, if you fail her class or get a poor grade university is not for you. If you made it to third year and struggle in ENRT3000 with amanda you seriously should drop out of university.
Amanda is a personable teacher and has a very unique but pleasant teaching style. She as a professor provides students the opportunity to work and develop skills that should be useful in one's professional career, aswell as personal life. This class requires dedication, and is a time commitment, but overall great class.
As someone who likes writing I thought this would be a breeze - I was wrong. 4-6 hrs of homework every week (readings and multiple challenging reflections per wk requiring citations). Requires a lot of introspection even for highly self-aware people. Group project is really involved but super valuable. Great prof but plan your schedule accordingly.
Super organized - huge plus when taking online courses. The presentation of the online course was well laid out. It's clear as to what information she is looking to get out of you when doing your discussion questions. Helps that she takes your requests for team members. Not guaranteed, but helpful to get a good group. She is super engaging.
Get ready to work on a lot of group projects and individual projects. This course is time consuming, and participation is 10% which doesn't come easy. I was present for all the classes, participated a lot still got 6% only. However, you can do well if you follow instructor's instructions and do spend time on projects. No tests or quizess.
I took ENTR 3110 with Amanda online, if you put in the effort and show that actually go through all the videos she suggested and read the material, you will be awarded for your effort. It is a third-year class, so you can't expect to just get the mark without working for it.
Take it if you would like to challenge yourself.
This class was very challenging in the beginning. The grading is based on a rubric used by all ENTR3100 profs, one error and you could risk getting a bad grade. I put in extra hours for this class and always started my assignments as soon as it was assigned. You wont get a good grade if you don't attend class or start your assignments on time.
She is a good professor. The lessons are organized. The lectures are engaging. But the workload is too much. This course should be divided into 2.
I understand this course is suppose to challenge you. However, I have received 50% only and all my group members ended up dropping out. Her feedback makes no sense because I have applied it. Yet, it has not boosted my grade. Literally distraught on how this course is going and I have a few friends who are getting a better grade with a differ prof.
I dropped the course because I learned nothing from her. Take it with someone else.
A tough course, ENTR3100, pushes students to think differently. ENTR3100 has extensive grading requirements for assignments; failing to meet even one of them results in an unsatisfactory grade. Amanda recognizes students' struggles but shows no true concern for them. Her constant criticisms discourage students who cannot seem to grasp the concepts.
Worst professor I have ever had.
I feel bad about writing this review because I believe Amanda is a genuinely kind person. However, the truth is that she is too hard on her students. This class is difficult and her feedback isn't very helpful. Unfortunately, I had to drop the class. I checked the number of students left near the end and more than half ended up dropping it.
Time-consuming and all I learned was "be a team player." I went with a different professor for ENTR 3100, only to discover that Amanda made all the lessons. So no matter who you choose for ENTR 3110, and ENTR3100, you will deal with Amanda's chaotic lessons. Can't Amanda understand that not everyone like her teaching style?
The content of this course is not difficult at all but Amanda makes it 100x harder than it needs to be. Modules are not user friendly, they are difficult to navigate and take 4-6 hours a week and are extremely repetitive. Unfortunately you probably won't learn anything in this course, not sure why it's even required.
AVOID HER, she is an extremely tough grader, she will let you revise until she is satisfied. A ton of tools and theories need to be familiar with. Half of my classmates dropped this course. I don't know who can pass her course. Only grade your assignment once a week, miss the time? Then you waste a week of time 'til next week.
Amanda goes above and beyond in making her students well prepared for their futures and you will not find a professor that works harder than she does in that respect. I failed her course yet I learned more than I have in any other. Won't be an easy pass with any professor, so I would suggest taking it with Amanda to get the most out of it.
If you wish to pass this course in 1 try, DO NOT take it online. Yes take it online means you do not need to do the pitch and challenge presentation offline and the 'steps' method seems to be easier. However, no highest criteria reach means a REDO!! Offline means you can at least have a chance to finish all the assignments and get a grade.
It's disappointing how many honest reviews get taken down. Amanda was, in my experience, one of the least supportive instructors I've had. The course content itself isn't especially difficult, but it can feel overwhelming if you're not prepared, which is where good instruction really matters. Unfortunately, she tends to play favorites.
