very very sweet and helpful. always has a big smile on her face.very clear and methodical abt the course. gives regular homework that makes the course and tests easy.gets the class involved by asking the students to work with her in solving questions. highly recommended!
SHE ROX!!
She was by far the best math teacher ever.If i hadn't taken 17 units,i wouldv'e done much better. I would highly recommend her because shes very clear, easy quizes ( for those that do the h/w).Shes also very willing to help.Plus she drives a mini so she must be cool!

Extremely helpful and step by step about math. Smiles a lot and isn't too homework heavy. One of my more cheerful classes.
hey i just think the class is boring
I had her as a sub in Math 35 and she was amazing. She broke everything down and worked with you and the class until you got it. She was very clear and extremelly nice.
It's layed out very well, what's on the homework is on the tests, only it's even easier on the tests. She helps the class out with any problems they have with the assignments and is just a very sweet teacher over all.
I had her for statistics class in the summer, i walked in thinking i would fail and i should drop.. She is a great teacher, and helps each person with problems as well as the class. She encouraged me not to drop and i passed her class and i was sooo happy. I reccomend ger for all, she will make math fun and easy to learn
She wasn't very good at explaining problems and often dismissed student questions. Very young, it doesn't seem like she knows what she's doing, most dropped the class.
She really knows her stuff and explains the material well.
I found out that I didnt need this class a few weeks into it, but instead of dropping it, I kept going, just because it was such an interesting class, and more so because Mrs. Brown is such an good teacher! ;-) I voted hot too, she has a young third-grade-teacher thing going on, its crazy.
she's not good at explaining problems. CLASS is VERY boring! She assigns 2 much hw, you pretty much learn on your own.
BEST STATS TEACHER ON CAMPUS! Highly recommend to all math haters and lovers alike.
Brown is an okay teacher. There is a lot of homework that takes a long time. She does not allow enough time in class to go over questions. She is confusing at times. Some tests were hard others were easy. I got 100% on the midterm and an A in the class overall. So it is possible to pass her class. I recommend her if you are willing to study a lot.
She is a classy professor. Sure, their were some teaching method that I did not like; however, I think she is an good professor overall. Furthermore, this is college so expect a lot of work.
Midterms are VERY hard because they cover like 3 chapter per midterm at a time. Also, she rarely EVER makes sense and it is hard to follow at some times because she doesnt explain WHY this has to happen, or why that does. You pretty much learn on your own and the book is just as bad. For most of the problems, it doesnt even have any answers!
she is really nice but pretty hard. you def need to come to class everyday because she gives pop quizzes and that means that you have to study the material as soon as you get it. i figured that out too late and that hurt my grade a lot
Any math class has homework demands so hers is no exception. Go to class, study the material and you will pass. Great teacher!
above average.
She is GREAT, she is always willing to answer any question even though she already stated the answer, she is always smiling regardless of the lack of participation of the class. Students who cannot stand doing homework KEEP OFF!!! Statitics isn't hard but ones must think, here it is the problem . Some students don;t want to think. She is AWESOME.
She was an excellent teacher...i really didnt put ANY effort into this class and i still passed w/ a B...i was actually aiming for a C in this class, and came out w/ a B, just make sure u go to lab and attend class in the beginning and then frm the half way mark down, go to @ least one class a week! LOL, very easy
AMANDA BROWN IS A GREAT TEACHER AND SHE IS VERY EXPLANATORY. SHE GOES OVER THE CLASS WORK AND HOME WORK WITH EASE AND IS WILLING TO SHOW YOU STEP BY STEP WHAT TO DO. SHE ALSO SEES THE BOOK IS HARD AND SHE MAKES HER OWN VERSION OF CHAPTERS IF NECESSARY; ALWAYS WITH A SMILE!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Appears to be easy and helpful, but actually she's super strict on details and sucks at helping u in her office. Seriously, go to the tutor's instead if you want help.
At first everything seems to be easy, but then once things start to pick up, we always run out of time to go over things fully. She actually isn't THAT helpful. And the way she grades homework SUCKS! It's almost unfair...
she is very clear and will hapily go the extra mile to make sure u understand. I am generally barely a C student (in Math) but I got a B in her class and i understood the material. I truly recomend her.
Condescending and tricky. Extremely harsh grader, will deduct points for any reason, you must be perfect to get all points. Assigns massive amounts of homework, makes each homework 3 points, and deducts 1 point for missing 1 problem out of 15-25 problems. Likes to be sucked-up to, so if you are perfect and like sucking-up, then take her.
she is a pretty good teacher. she tries hard at teaching and tries her best to help you out. the only problem she has is staying on track, like we barely covered the last section and we took to long on the very beginning of the course. but i did take a short semester though.
She explains concepts very well. The class is not easy, but she makes it a lot less painful than it could be.
I really like this professor. She is very nice and helpful. Take her, I recommend her highly.
Condescending and tricky, do not trust, Harsh grading. Do not trust her. I do not recommend, no one, to take, this class.
Ms Brown is not a very good teacher. I thought everything was fine because I was doing so well on the homework. But then came her tests. The majority of the grade is based on tests, yet she makes the tests very hard and uses a lot of "trick the student" type of questions. She seems so nice but I think she is determined to trick you for some reason.
prof. brown is an excellent teacher.
I don't understand previous comments. Tests were very reasonable. A little excessive in homework, however. Very fair professor. She wants her students to succeed and is willing to meet during office hours, or arrange office hours for you. Tests are a huge portion of the grade. You have to study to succeed in this class. Ask questions if confused!
Professor Brown is extremely nice and loves to teach. However, her class is very challenging and her tests are a majority of your grade. With that being said, she's always willing to help her students out.
Professor Brown is very helpful, and very nice. I only have one complaint. In the beginning of the semester she said that she was just checking the hw to see if we did it. Now in the middle of the semester she is grading so hard on the homework it's ridiculous. Condescending.
ok. do not take her if you get bored easily and if your not going to go to class. she is sooo slow i couldnt handle it. i was so bored in that class i either left at brakes or didnt go. i meazn math 35 is simple but those tests she gave were extremely difficult? it pissed me off how hard they were. no one in my class passede final or the class. yea
All the comments before say that she is really nice and always has a smile. It's true but nice doesn't make you a good teacher. In the beginning, she was fine but once you get further into the term, she's hard. She said that the hw is just for your benefit but later she starts grading really hard on the hw. She always gives pop quizzes! Expect once
She grades really hard on the hw, but is really helpful when asking for help one on one. test are fair and most of the time similar to the reveiw ?s. she gives alot of quizes in lab and lec. nice and approachable though
The honors style class works well for discussion based classes, but not math. Take her honors statistics class only if you are comfortable teaching yourself. We sat in a circle and discussed statistics, which is not how most people learn math. She is a nice person but not very helpful.
I second the previous rater. This class is not designed for those who can't pick stats up by themselves. Her assignments & tests are pretty fair. The real surprise was the 20 page written project. You have to pick a topic, collect data, and test a statistical claim. She wasn't really clear on what she expected so it ended up being no fun at all. :(
I agree with the 2 previous comments. BE WARNED! Class is self-taught: little or no lecture and an inadequate textbook. Only suitable for math-brains who can teach themselves. Lack of direction made the class very time consuming and frustrating. Mere discussion isn't helpful for math. Class not recommended for most people, but teacher's nice.
Horrendous teacher. Too OCD about formatting, and not enough on quality of work. Gives way too many even problems on the homework, so you don't even know if you're doing the work right. Only take this teacher if you hate yourself.
never had a teacher who loved her subject more. She is a great teacher and is will to put in any extra time with her students!! I would know; trust me!
Professor Brown is a great teacher. There is always a smile on her face! She is approachable and helpful. The only bad thing I can say is that she is the HARSHEST grader I've ever had. Would take her again.
Amanda is a very helpful teacher. I don't particularly like math, nor am I very good at it, but she gave me many resources and uses her office hours. She is good at explaining things and will work with you.
Prof. Brown was extremely helpful, and for the most part very clear teaching the subject. She gave good examples in lecture and the homework load was fair for a Calculus class. I would really recommend Prof. Brown if you're interested in learning and understanding Calculus the right way.
You know what I love most about Prof. Brown (besides the fact that she has a good attitude)? She teaches you the concepts and shows you why things are the way they are. She doesn't like you to memorize things so instead, she shows you how to derive what you need so you know how to get it in case you forget. That's how a math class should be taught.
She is kind of nice in a phony way. Statistics was a little difficult, but Brown was somewhat helpful in class and in office hours. The coursework is clearly listed on the syllabus. The tests were easy; just read the questions clearly and you'll do fine.
Seems very nice, but one may not want to take her. If homework isn't folded right or in the right format, automatic 25% of homework grade is lost. Though seeming very nice, she has no give--it's either black or white. Had a very hard time following her in her teaching. She has a very nice smile, but I wouldn't take again. My best to all who takeher
Professor Brown is a WONDERFUL instructor! She is probably the best instructor I've ever had in college. She makes sure her students understand the material, if not she answers all the students' questions and she is very helpful. Math isn't for everyone, but I highly recommend her for a tough course. She makes the course interesting! :)
LOVED HER! I started out failing the class, but worked hard with her after class and in the math lab to end with a B. She will help you if you are willing to make the effort. Sometimes it just takes sitting down with her one on one to fully understand.
She's a great teacher !
Don't let her smile fool you. I've had her for lower division math and she explains it so well. But calculus is not her strong point when it comes to teaching. I was more stressed out during the quizzes and labs than the actual test. Nice teacher and she tries to help, but it's your time and grade.
Easy questions but she grades on format. You might know the concept very well but if you dont do her way then 1/2 cred. Not very helpful in the physics portion. She hardly has any material of her own.Goes straight from the book.To be honest, i learned more from online lectures than her classroom.Nice person, but doesnt belong in the math department.
I took her Math 1A class and I loved it, so I thought her Math 1B class would be great. Unfortunately that class ended up with me having to try and teach myself math. She rarely finishes in class examples and each test is worth 20% of your grade. I was not the only person who had trouble- average test scores were around 55%, but she doesn't curve.
To teach 1B takes a skill she does not have. From a class of 50 students less than 40% made it to the end. Many of those 40% did not even pass the class with C or higher. The tests, final exam, and grade are not curved. With her lectures, you are not going to pass the class. Spend the time learning the book and online lectures. Much more useful.
She does not teach that class usually and I do not think is her strength. I passed the class but far from what I usually do in math classes. I do not recommend her, at least not for 1B. Her grading is strange, and harsh, picky for small mistake not on the logic or the material but on syntax. And yes..no grade curving.
I regret to say I did not finish this class at the CC level since she taught so well. I just hated having to have a test every week. She is a very harsh grader though incredibly knowledgeable and informative. The lab sucks because we have to write an essay about derivatives (I know a paper in Calculus). Tough, but worth your money!
Great teacher. The technique she uses to teach can be a bit hard, but if you work hard study do your homework, participate you will do great. She has a quiz like everyday -_- but she is a partial credit grader :)
This professor made me want to end my life, I had such a hard time with her, she's super confusing and not helpful at all, you have to teach everything to yourself. If you want to be misrable take her class.
Must attend lecture;she takes attendance and gives out surprise quizzes. She usually has 10 quizzes, some are take home. Read before class because she expects you to know the material before she teaches. She gives confusing answers to questions, but is very willing to work with you during office hours. Class gets hard after CH4. HW is optional.
I'll say this plain and simple...if your not a math person, then this is not the class for you. Even if you get the answer right your points get taken off if you don't use her methods.
If you're not a Math person this is not the class for you. Made the mistake of taking her twice and got a D. Nice lady, but harsh grader.
She tends to teach in a different way. Never heard a math teacher explain an equation as, "Blah + blee= bloo" before. I found it a bit odd and a little condescending. I found that she wants to teach things in a way that is more complicated than it has to be. Would recommend looking up the lecture topic on YouTube for a different view on the chptr
I took her twice. Her class is easy. And she is clear and willing to help. Every week or two, there will be a quiz based on what you've learnt. But as long as you do your homework in a regular basis, the quiz and the test will be VERY EASY. For Final Exam, here's a tip. STUDY THE TESTS!!!!
I think that if math is really, and I mean REALLY your thing, you will love this class. Her explanations can sometimes be condescending and after some time it is very easy to totally zone out. Her quizzes and tests aren't too tough but she grades them pretty hard.
Would be better as a preschool teacher. For two hour's I would sit through her class listing to term's such as Blee and blah leaving me confused. Prepare to listen to endless examples(which sometimes can help) but it also becomes quickly boring. She is willing to help but you have to ask and attendance is mandatory. Prepare for daily quizzes.
Professor brown said that she teaches "intuitively", So, if you learn "intuitively" you should have no problem with this class. Of the 45 or so people that started this class 16 remained at the final drop time. A fellow student (an A student) that I spoke with who stayed until the end was hoping for a C at the time of the final. BAD TEACHER!
The most difficult thing about this professor is not her tests but rather her grading. She expects your answers to be perfect and if there is even a small mistake (that has nothing to do with what she taught) she will penalize you greatly. Don't be fooled when she says and I quote"I am more interested in your reasoning than I am in correct answers"
Prof. Brown is among one of the worst teachers for math, unless you're already good at math. She expects you to spend 8+ hours a week for one class alone, which is unreasonable to expect at a community college. She assigns far too much homework and isn't helpful answering questions. Wouldn't recommend to take if you're bad at math.
Prof. Brown is pretentious. She marks down homework for the most trivial of things, like not boxing answers. If you're not already good at math, don't take this class. If you're stumped on a basic concept, she'll basically just tell you to go back and study material from earlier classes rather than actually helping you. Would not recommend, EVER.
She is a nice, cheesy lady. Very clear lectures if you don't mess around with your friends. The homework is good practice. My first A in a math class since 7th grade. Quizzes every other day. Start doing homework early, half the class failed the first test. Go to the SI sessions! I don't see why half the class dropped.
Stats is a tough subject. But prof Brown's teaching & notes were very helpful. Weekly pop quizzes, but some were take home! Not going to lie it's tough, but if you study & really do your best you should be okay. Ask for help, visit her office, & make study groups! Maintained my average all the way though, but studied hard & passed with a B!
Professor Brown is approachable, accessible, and super friendly. She prints study guides before the exam and hands out formula sheets during the exam. So long as you know what to do with the formulas you should have no problem passing. The only downside is she docks points for simple mistakes even if you demonstrated you understood the material.
Two weeks in of winter quarter, the class went from 24 students to 10. this class is not easy. she skips math steps all the time so if you dont know math youre doomed. take literally any other professor or dont take the course at all. i dont know what goes through her brain.
You must be extremely accurate when answering questions. She marks points off for rounding. The class is bland, dry, and boring. Homework is not mandatory, however you should do it if you want to learn the material. The only things she grades are tests, quizzes, and around 3 or 4 take home assignments. She's nice, but look for a different professor
Be prepared to work very hard. No homework credit but you still need to do it because there will probably be a quiz once a week. Two exams and a final so it's very easy to fail if you mess one up. There will be at least one proof on each test.
Okay, She isn't the worst. I will admit my part in failing the course as it is very difficult. BUT she didn't do much to help! She graded so very meticulous on scores and gave weekly quizzes. She does explain the math fairly simple but she moves so fast just so she can give the weekly quiz out in time. She just isn't worth it.
I enjoyed taking this class, I liked how Brown was passionate about what she taught, she was excellent and offered her help whenever needed. Yes, she gave pop quizzes once a week , but they were not horrible. You can do great on the quizzes by working on the homework. You won't regret taking the class!
Very picky with little details in the exam and will be as automatic 1 point taken away
Professor Amanda Brown is so sweet & actually cares for you in regards to passing her class. Even in the middle of a pandemic she is still very helpful by responding to emails. She usually drops 1 quiz but for the sake of the world rn she dropped 2 of them. This class is hard and you HAVE to work for your grade and do the hw readings or fail.
Brown does not let up on her schedule even w/ pandemic. She made her student dl free trial of minitab to complete scheduled labs. Her lectures turned into 5 min videos on one prob and zoom meetings were only 1hr where she expected you to be ahead and only ask hw questions. Lecture stopped existing. Waste of money. Tutor taught me more.
Got accused of cheating, didn't even want to show up after that. I was graded so harshly for every quiz/ test after that. Staying up all night studying got me nowhere with this class and I did not feel like I got clear answers to my questions. Very discouraging and brought me to tears several times. Not fun, but a mandatory class for me...
Ive taken professor brown twice now and Although she is very sweet she is a terrible teacher. She doesnt explain her work and her tests are completely different than the homework she assigns. I took her during the pandemic and she doesnt even teach! She makes us watch videos that someone else made. Dont take her! Take someone else if you can!!
Her grading is specific to her taste and in my experience not always based on your knowledge of the material. There are true or false but even that sometimes does not reflect what we learned. Test averages are always Fs and she does not seem to care about that or do anything to change or bring that up. Im not sure what else she expects from us. sad
Although she is a nice professor and does know her stuff. She fails terribly with her grading because she marks you down over the most specific details that you couldn't even expect. She expects you to be amazing at proofs and she gives quizzes each week. I've studied and im struggling to keep my B eventho the material itself is easy.
Unpleasant teaching. She under prepares you for her exams! You must read the entire textbook/do all the hwk problems or else the test will look different from what she taught. Which is absurd, we are paying teachers so we DONT have to teach ourselves the textbook. shes sweet as an individual but as teacher could care less about students struggling.
As a person, she is very sweet. But as a teacher, I wouldn't recommend her class. Although she has good order and does good material on the whiteboard, she explains very simple exercises compared to what you see in homework. You'll have to look for resources outside of that USELESS BOOK.
We were graded exclusively on quizzes and tests. She would only spent around an hour or so on each unit, with us going through 2-3 units per class. Due to the fast pace of the class, we would have a quiz or test every week, and if you did poorly on it, then you wouldn't have time to review before you had to get ready for the next one.
This was the hardest class I ever took mostly because of the teacher. She did not prepare us for exams. If you wanted to pass you would have to spend hours on your own watching youtube to learn how to do her tests. She would teach as if we already know the material. I reccomend picking a different teacher for stats.
She is very tough. Homework is not graded. Quizzes are easy, but tests are your whole grade. Lots of material is pushed into 20 questions. The highest avg score is 40% that I have seen. A's are unreachable if you don't put in more than 12 hours of study time a week just for this class a week you will not pass. I do not recommend. Very bland lecture
She rushes through lectures and tries to cover a lot each class meeting. There is a decent amount of homework but it is never collected and doesn't count for any points. Your whole grade is quizzes and tests! A 50% is a C. I was constantly frustrated because I feel like she didn't allow us to grasp the concept before moving on to the next unit.
Great professor, her lectures are easy to follow as long as you read the section beforehand like she asks. Once she teaches it back to you it makes a lot more sense. Loved the class- she is a tough grader and quizzes/tests are most of your grade.
Depending on the person, this professor may be great or not. This professor expects a lot from the student. The syllabus is set up in a simple but grueling way. Homework is not graded, so you won't know if you're learning correctly. Quizzes sometimes are graded too late, so you won't get the feedback you need for the test. Advice: go to office hour
I gave this professor a chance but now I regret it. I paid for this class for the professor to teach me and not have to teach myself all the material. For me, her explanations are shallow as I expect great detail in mathematics. Typically, when going over questions, she will only give you the 'overview' of the solution.
Moderately challenging subject made pointlessly difficult by the worst kind of "tough" grader. Had this been a driver's ed class, Brown is the type of instructor who drops a full letter grade for, eg, failing to start the engine with a hand-crank, or using green wiper fluid instead of blue, or not checking glove box lid is secure before each trip.
Class itself is really hard so you have to study outside of class. The teacher is a nice person but a tough grader. Takes a lot of points off for the simplest mistake. Most tests are really easy but the exams are not. Always felt unprepared for exams. Did not teach proofs well enough. Only felt good about final because I knew what to expect.
Although I did pretty well in the class, it was not easy at all. You will have to teach yourself everything. She never taught how to do proofs, only does examples and doesn't explain concepts. She will mark off points for the SMALLEST mistakes. No extra credit; your grade is only based on quizzes, 3 exams, and final. She is extremely nice though…
Just took her class for MAT12H and she's nice overall but is just a harsh grader. I never did so bad in any course ever in my previous years until this class. She doesn't curve and takes off full points for small round off errors. I'll never take her ever again.
Professor Brown's class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the work. Lectures can be tough, but reading the textbook and using resources like unstuck AI help a lot. Exams are demanding, but the material is valuable.
Strongly do not recommend. Rushes through lectures & falls behind, docks points over smallest things, no extra credit/corrections. Few things graded & they seriously impact grade. Proofs not sufficiently taught & difficult to feel prepared for exams. Office hours but not enough in-class support or understanding. Overall incredibly frustrating class
Unless you can devote all of your time and energy to her class, I really do not recommend this professor. There are quizzes almost weekly but look out for the tests because they will really impact your grade since they're heavily weighted and you need to REALLY remember stuff without using any notecards.
I do NOT recommend taking this instructor. She was not an effective teacher. I consistently walked into the hallway and heard other students in the class complaining about they way she teaches. I also wish she had a personality. Bummer. Look for another instructor.
