Dr. chau is a great techer, dhe is always ready to give fun and easy to rember ideas, also she is available during class times and wants to help her students. she teaches a tough course but is fair and funny. She also gives a LOT of extra credit points, very helpful. finally she is realistic.
I took her for Botany because I needed another natural science credit. The class started at 7:45AM but Dr. Chau is lively and woke me up. She loves her job and is a very good teacher. I'd recomend her to anyone in a heartbeat. She reviews everything she's going to test over before the test, and offers lots of extra credit. Great class. :)
DON'T take her if you're not good in Biology. She's a great professor but jumps around & the notes you fill out don't pertain to the test much. TONS of extra credit, it will move you a letter grade & she's always available for help. Beware, you have to work your butt off to get an A & the bonus questions require alot of info. But she's lively!
STAY AWAY!If ur not good in Bio. take someone else. She is lively but tests are so difficult and she rearranges the question to make you really think. Give ALOT of bonus, you WILL need it to pass. She gave 2 finals & was the only Prof. to do so with short answer questions included. Always available outside of class.
She is a great teacher. Very willing to help you if you have any questions. Loves giving bonus points. I didn't read the book, just paid attention in class and made an A+. Best teacher I have ever had.
i have never met a prof more enthusiastic about teaching, great teacher always willing to help, but you have to put the time into the class to do well, especially for myself taken no bio prior to this. it was not an easy class for me, although dr chau made it better.
very enthusiastic and keeps you awake if you have an early class. offers enough extra credit to jump an entire letter grade. she gets to know her students and will do anything to help. love her!
Love this class! Very enthusiastic teacher, she explains everything extremely well. Not easy but if you take time outside of class you will easily be able to make an A!
Gives way too many bonus points. I felt like I was in high school again. I was interested in botany until I took this class. Biology is supposed to be difficult but this class was a joke. I hated everything about this class. She has an accent and she never stops talking. Easy A for anyone.
Relatively easy class as long as you study. Attendance is mandatory. Dr. Chau gives a very good set of notes that are very helpful for reviewing before the test. I found it easier to fill them out from the book than her lectures.
If you do the work in this class you can get a good grade. Lots of opportunities for bonus points. Would recommend for motivated students. Lectures are usually interesting and she actually cares about her students!
Highly recommend. Best professor ive had in a long time.
One of the best professors I have had! She has a slight accent but she is always enthusiastic, she works really hard to make sure everyone understands her lectures and she gives a ton of bonus points. If you are willing to put in effort it is an easy A!
Dr. Chau is a very enthusiastic professor. She gives plenty of extra credit and is always willing to help. As long as you do your work and study, you will get a good grade. I highly recommend taking Dr. Chau.
This class is a lot of work. BUT, she gives enough extra credit to jump you an entire letter grade. She really does want to see the class succeed, and she is loud and enthusiastic. Definitely woke me up in the morning. You could get by without the textbook, so it's not exactly that important.
She was very enthusiastic as you can see. Really woke you up during class. As mentioned, gives tons of bonus points to help bring your grade up. MAKE SURE YOU DO THE BONUS POINTS, could be the difference between a B or an A, depending on what you are striving for. Definitely not a class to cram exams for, especially the final. FAST lectures.
Dr. Chau was an awesome teacher! She is really passionate about Biology. To succeed you HAVE to fill in the course notes and follow along with lecture. This isn't a class to fall behind on. This class definitely requires studying for tests. She offers extra credit which brought my grade up from a B to an A. Make sure to do the extra credit!!
If you fail this class then you are just flat out LAZY. She does EVERYTHING she possibly can to help you succeed–including enough bonus points to bump you up a letter grade. TAKE HER. You don't HAVE to have your textbook. Just buy the notes packet and fill in during lecture.
Dr. Chau is an amazing professor, probably one of the best professors I've had. Botany is a difficult course to take, but Dr. Chau will do anything she can to help you. The tests can be tough, but if you study, you WILL pass. An as for extra credit... Well, lets just say your grade will move up a letter if you do all of it. HIGHLY recommend her!
I can honestly say that Professor Chau is one of the best teachers I've had in my academic career. Although the class is very challenging, she gives her students any and every opportunity to better their grades. Her lectures effectively go over the materials that we need to know for tests and quizzes and she also highlights the most important infor
Professor Chau always gives bonus point so you'll leave at the end of the year happy. IF YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT STUDYING this would not be the best class for you to start off with, I do suggest after you learn to study take this class.
Okay bottom line, I hated this class! it is the hardest course you could ever take trust me!! don't sign up for it! I put 110% into this class and I still did not pass!! GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! Unless you are an absolute genius with a photographic memory. She doesn't tell you what to study and NO REVIEWS, even for the final! You better like daily in class quizzes and really hard tests. If you got most of a short answer wrong on tests, she'll count you wrong... she expects you to know everything 100%
DO NOT TAKE IT!!!! If you want to transfer into A&M with a good GPA do yourself a favor and NEVER take this class!! Hardest class I have ever taking!
This class was painful! I paid for a tutor, dropped another class to focus on this one, joined study groups, did every single extra credit and still did not pass!!! Now I am behind on my college credits
NOOO! this is the hardest class I have ever taken! I honestly do not know how anyone could ever get an A! You are expected to know every single thing in the book, and even if you do read the entire book it doesn't matter because none of the questions on the test are from the book anyways! Still have no clue where she pulls her test questions from
If you think this is going to be an easy class think again! She is very rude towards her students, I am always scared to ask questions during class because she yells at you for not understanding!
Do not take it this class! She is such a harsh grader, if you get just one thing wrong on the free response answers for the test she marks the entire question wrong! She puts question marks all over your paper as if you don't understand it at all, it made me feel so dumb!
The test are the worst, she yells at her students, and the classes are so long! She is going to tell you the lab practical's are easy, but don't you dare believe that, it is hard!!!!
No, just no! If you were in upper level classes in high school, be prepared to receive your lowest grade ever! This class brought me to tears
Yes, there are a lot of assignments. Yes, there was a lot of work we probably didn't need to do. The class wasn't that hard overall, and the amount of extra credit is just staggering. I ended up with a 100 in the class simply because all of the extra points. I would recommend because she really cares about her students learning.
Professor Chau was awesome! She really cares about her students grades in the class, and she is always willing to further explain confusing material. There are daily quizzes, but as long as you study the course notes you will do fine. Utilize the textbook website and with extra credit, this class is not hard to pass!
Time intensive but with extra credit an A is easily attainable. She makes it clear on the first day that you have to work for your grade but she is more than helpful! I put in lots of time but ended the year with a 100! People who complained about her being unfair did not put in enough time reading and studying. must study for every class
Great teacher! She gives a lot of quizzes but don't freak out if you do bad on them because they don't count for too much. She gives you a lot of good extra credit opportunities and take all of them!! Very helpful teacher but you gotta do the work. Not a class to take if you're not prepared to work for it. Great with helping during office hours.
Dr. Chau is a really enthusiastic teacher who wants you to succeed. There is a lot of information so you have to study, do your work, and be there for class every to get those points. She offers enough extra credit points to bump you up a letter grade, but you need to work for it. ALWAYS complete the notes packet and know them for the tests!
I really loved Professor Chau and the class environment she created. She is serious about you doing the work but gives you tons and tons of extra credit. She wants you to succeed. I personally thought she was hilarious and I had a lot of fun in class.
No, just no. you will not pass
I just want to kindly warn anyone reading this to rethink taking this class. I ended up failing and it was the hardest thing I have every done.
Tests are tough, Lectures are long and its hard to sit still the entire time she's talking, hard grader and labs are no walk in the park either
Prof. Chau is an amazing teacher and REALLY knows what she's talking about (i mean she wrote the textbook-sheesh). She gets a bad rap because the class is not easy, she really makes you work for it, however she is helpful and compensates with extra credit. You will learn a lot and she is more than happy to help. She really cares about her students.
Professor Chau really cares about her students, but the way her teaching style is makes lectures EXTREMELY hard to follow and the test aren't a walk in the park either. I am a science major and I found her class very difficult. Be prepared to put a lot of time and extra office hour visits to pass this class.
She is so sweet and if she had enough time to go over everything in class and make sure we all understand she would! You basically need to teach yourself the chapter the best you can before you come to class then she will answer questions and clarify important things! DO ALL OF THE EXTRA CREDIT! Test are hard but very doable if you retain the info!
The class is already tough itself, yes Dr. Chau gives extra credit, however she grades it so tough that the points are so low. So even if you do it, it wont help at all. Her homework is excessive, and although she gives notes to fill as you're reading the chapter its no where near to what the test is going to be over.
Do all the work that is expected & you should pass, but there's a ton of it. She expects you to retain every bit of info you read. Exams are hard to study for b/c there's no review & her tests are over a wide range. If you don't read the book and take notes over it you're screwed b/c the lecture doesn't help much. A lot of bonus that helps a ton.
Professor Chau is a wonderful but challenging prof. She wants her students to achieve and she will help you in every way possible to reach your goal for the class, but she also wants to make sure you work for it. As long as you are organized and can devote a decent amount of time to studying for this class, you should achieve your goal.
I was worried about getting a C and had a D before the final exam. Luckily she drops a big handful of grades and i even believe she gave me a little extra help to achieve that C. My class started with like 31 and ended with about 11 so the class is very difficult but she is one of those teachers who actually wants her students to pass and will help
I think a bit more lecturing would be helpful and I really liked the labs.
This woman is an open book, pay attention to her details and youll easily make an A. Shes very dedicated to her work and never leaves you hanging. Tons of extra credit and drops lots of grades, her grading system boggles my mind but i somehow managed to make an A. makes you work for your grade but shes funny, relatable and inspirational.
Do not let the class difficulty scare you away. Although there are easier professors to take, Chau is passionate about teaching the material. Be prepared for a ton of homework if you want an A or B. You will have to take notes and study them very seriously throughout the semester. She gives 50 points of extra credit worth half of a letter grade.
Dr. Chau is a great professor and cares about all of her students. She is a tough grader but provides you with everything you need to succeed. Throughout the semester she drops TONS of grades and offers a ton of extra credit so take advantage of it! As long as you're willing to put a decent amount of time into the class, you'll get an A.
Dr. Chau is one of the best professors you can have at Blinn. She is extremely knowledgeable about plants and is always available to answer questions. Her class was both fun and very challenging. DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT! Also, make sure that you use the the course guide to study for TBL's. If you put in the work, you can get alot out of this class.
Professor Chau is undoubtedly one of the best professors I have ever had. She offers a lot of extra credit that doesn't take up a lot of time but also is a great study tool for tests and TBL quizzes. She also drops a lot of grades so if you follow her Course Guidelines and take notes on what she says to take notes on you will do well in the class.
Dr. Chau was an amazing professor. She wasn't an "easy" teacher, but she made this class as straightforward as possible. All the guidelines were very clear, there was TONS of extra cred., if you work hard and do what she says you WILL make an A. If you skip class you will miss a lot. She goes over what is most important and is so helpful if you ask
She was honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. She's crazy in a good way. She cares about her students and wants you to achieve your goal. So much extra credit it's hard to fail. It will jump your grade up a lot. I had 70 bonus points.
DrChau is great! Here's how to ace the class: 1)Do extra credit quizzes. 2)Use PDF she gives you to study key points. 3)Practice given short answers before tests. 4)Study how the concepts and vocab terms fit together instead of memorizing definitions. 5)Read the book before you go to lecture. 6)Be hands on in lab, do everything yourself! 7)Have fun
Professor Chua is very knowledgeable and is there for your benefit however I would view lecture periods as a supplement to the required reading.
do your notes and youll pass
She has an accent so in the beginning she was a little hard to understand, but it isn't that bad. She really wants you to succeed so she gives tons of extra credit opportunities. She drops tons of assignments so if you don't do well in the class it's probably because you aren't trying. She gives short essay questions in advance
She gives lots of assignments and team based learning (TBL) quizzes, however she drops 40-50% of them. She provides a course guide that runs in line with her syllabus. I wrote my notes the night before following it and the tegrity, allowing me to focus on her lecture. I used the Webcom (interactive exercise and quiz)before the bonus quiz, worth it!
Biology is a hard course!!That's a fact! So, whoever you get for a teacher-it will be tough. However, Mrs. Chau cares about you & offers TONS of bonus points. If you show her you care & work hard, she has your back. I made an A in her class pretty easy because I worked hard. If you don't work hard though, you will not do well. TAKE HER!!
She does not lecture at all, so it's pretty much your responsibility to read and take good notes. She does provide a study guide for reading the textbook, but you pretty much have to understand it yourself. She doesn't curve tests, even though the average is always failing... She's kind of crazy but if you study a lot you can do it.
For a biology course, this class wasn't too bad. You need to do all the required reading using the study guide- that's the main method of learning in the class because she does not lecture much. Tests are difficult, but she has so many assignments and quizzes that it's still easy to get a decent grade. Do the extra credit assignments! Labs are easy
I knew Biology was going to be difficult but Dr. Chau made her class so fun. She wants each & every one of her students to "kick ass" in the class IF you're willing to put in the necessary work to achieve a good grade. She lectures briefly on each chapter so taking notes is crucial. Please, study w/ ur teammates! She puts u in those for a reason!!!
Dr. Chau wants all of her students to succeed but, she will make you work for it! Like shell probably tell you, its not easy but it is certainly doable. There is a lot of quizes and labs but she only keeps your highest few and gives so much extra credit! WATCH HER TEGRITIES!!! Thats the only way I did so good! Also, do the learning curves!
Professor Chau was amazing! She is so enthusiastic about the subject, and she really wants her students to succeed in her class, but you do have to put in the work. Really, if you read the textbook and follow the study guide then you have everything you need to be successful!
My class was very challenging, but Dr. Chau made it doable. She's always willing to help and is usually available to do so. She even came to my study group on the Saturday before the final! She's really into team work, though, which I'd never really done. She also gives group quizzes a lot and pop quizzes for attendance credit, so be in class!
This class was a lot of work, but if you put in the effort it is not hard to do well. Dr. Chau gives you all of the tools needed to make a good grade you just have to use them. I stopped using the textbook in the middle of the semester and started only using the online resources because that worked best for me. You may need the book though.
Great professor! She has a clear outline of what needs to be done in the class in order to succeed. Has four test plus a final but will replace final grade will lowest test grade. There is a lot of quizzes but she has a study guide of what to expect, for both the test and the quizzes. Make sure to read the book and do the study guide.
Dr. Chau is such an amazing professor, she is very enthusiastic and she loves what she does and that is very evident from the day you walk into her class. She gives you an outline for her course, if you follow the study guide you will succeed but make sure that you stay on top of it as it can be overwhelming if you fall behind.
Dr. Chau is one of the most enthusiastic, and committed professors I have been able to take. The course is very taxing, and there is a lot of work to do for it. Do not get behind, and do not think you can just walk through with minimal effort. However Dr. Chau is always around to help, and is very fair. No curve, but her bonus points act as one!
Hardest class out of all my first semester classes. During lecture she hardly made sense or went over any of the material. Expected us to learn on our own. In class consisted of quizzes that majorly effected our grades and were 10 questions ONLY. Tests were extremely hard with short answers with extreme detail. Only thing that saved me was the lab
Dr. Chau is someone who is very respected but it felt like a self taught class. She cares but it is done in a way more of reminding us through email what we had due or only wanting to explain fully during office hours. The textbook is the main key to success in this class so you are basically only going to class to ask questions about what you read
Unless you want to take a biology class thats way harder and more complicated than it needs to be then take this class. Yeah shes respected but its just overly complicated than the other professors and biology is already hard enough
You have to work in a group the entire semester! I didn't know this before going into it and I don't think I would've taken it if I had. BUT if you're okay with group work, she is super great! She drops SO MANY things, bonus quizzes due every Sunday, and the exams are straightforward (applied knowledge, not just memorization). Lab exams are easy.
You must read chapters before class and take your own notes. The reason for that is, in class it is not necessarily lecture style however you ask questions about the material you read that is unclear and she will answer questions. Her policIes are very strict pertaining to syllabus. If this not your learning style i would not recommend this prof.
Worst class I have ever taken. She makes biology way harder than it has to be. You HAVE to read the textbook and take notes before you go to class. She doesn't really teach, just answers questions. 4 tests plus final, 3 lab tests, quizzes every week, labs every day. I would not recommend unless you have a lot of extra time to always be studying.
She is an amazing prof! Bio is a hard class and she knows it. But she does everything she can to try and help you do well! Tons of extra credit, 4 lecture exams, 3 lab exams and the final. There are quizzes about every week but they really help you see what the questions on the exam might look like and are a great study tool.
Dr. Chau is an AMAZING professor. She definitely makes you work for your grade but she wants you to succeed. You will need to use the book. Gives lots of extra credit. She's energetic and super funny and makes the class enjoyable.
Professor Chau was a great professor. She is very enthusiastic about her job and biology. She gives a lot of bonus opportunities and does whatever she can to help you pass her class. The only thing I did not like was she did not really lecture. You have to use her study guide to make your own notes and she just answers questions in class.
Dr. Chau really cares about her students and having them not just learn the material but NEVER forget it. She is super theatrical but makes class enjoyable. Biology isnt easy but she is understanding and gives a TON of extra credit. If you study and do what she says it CAN be an easy A. Dont expect her to give you the answers, she makes you work.
Great teacher, is very heavy with group work which helped me learn. Gives lots and lots of bonus points and assignments to help your grade, if you do her notes, watch her online videos, and study... youll do good. She gives you everything you need to get an A and is very passionate about teaching, wants you to pass just as much.
There is a LOT of work, but if you put in the time and the effort, you can earn an "A". She does care that you do well, but expects you to do the work. There is so much information and work, that it seems that you are teaching yourself.
Dr. Chau is one of the best professors I have ever encountered. Makes it very easy to learn and to acheive in her class. You do have to put in time and effort, but Dr. Chau isn't out to make a curve or build herself up, she truly wants each and every student to succeed, and by succeed I mean make the A! She's stellar, and hilarious to boot.
Use her study guides! Dr. Chau makes it amazingly clear exactly what she wants from you in class. Sometimes confusing but if you take the time she will always clear up and problems you have. Truly cares about her students. The class takes effort and time but so do all science classes. I really enjoyed her class.
My group and I called her our goal because she is that great. She makes you work for your grade but she encourages you to get there. She always helps you in every way possible. I was actually sick one day and when I returned to class, she checked with me to make sure I was okay. You have to put in the work to get the grade, but it's worth it.
Professor Chau is fantastic! The lecture time is mostly spent going over concepts that are harder to learn outside of class, so be sure to read the textbook and materials she gives you outside of class so that you will know what you need more help with during the lectures. You'll need to know how to find success with your team to do well.
You have to teach yourself EVERYTHING. Lectures are pointless as they are just going over everything you were supposed to read in an extremely fast manner. She does give a lot of extra credit which is really the only reason I got the grade I did. Read the book and write extensive notes and study every single day if you want to pass.
She is very enthusiastic and dedicated, BUT is deceptive with her tests and final. If you don't have much experience with biology and you are looking for an A, be prepared to cry and work your butt off and then be disappointed in your grade.
Safe yourself the time and energy and do not take this professor. For every chapter you take notes on your own outside of class and in class only goes over the things you ask about. I was never clear on what i needed to know for the tests unless i went to her office hours. The tests are impossible and i only passed because of the extra credit.
All the averages for our tests were in the 50's and 60's. She asks you to go into more detail compared to the other classes. I studied as much as I possibly could but she would always expect more when there just wasn't enough time because there's always other classes to focus on too. SHE DOES NOT LECTURE, NO POWERPOINTS OR ANYTHING!!!!!
Any biology course you take will be difficult and as a student you have to be ready for the work you will need to put in order to do well. In order to do well and get an A, you have to take notes following her extensive study guide, you cant fall behind, complete the bonus and you have to meet with her in office hours when you dont understand.
although dr. chau is very caring and an eccentric person, she is not good at actually teaching the material, you need to learn biology outside of class on your own and will need to study every single day to get a good grade. she goes into much more detail for the tests and i never knew what to expect from them so do all the extra credit she gives!
Dr. Chau really does care about all of her students however she expects them to do pretty much everything on their own outside of class. She doesn't really lecture well for tests, she just kind've expects you to know it from reading and doing the extra credit homework. Doesn't give reviews, tests are extremely hard.
She is very enthusiastic and tells you everything you need to do to get an A. She asks you to read every single chapter and take your own notes, but she goes over it in class to explain it way better, with simple meanings. Her quizzes are a great example of the questions on her test. If you study and watch her videos, her tests are a breeze.
Dr. Amanda Chau is very passionate about biology and loves teaching the subject however, her teaching strategies are not good. She expects everyone to learn on their own and if you have questions she will answer them in class, THAT'S IT!
Professor Chau is the best out there for students who need that extra push! Her classes do require lots of work which may seem daunting, but she truly cares for her students and it shows! Hands down would recommend her to anyone taking BIOL1406. Love her personality, teaching style, charisma, and passion she has for her job!
DO NOT TAKE! This is by far the worst professor I have ever had. Can not understand her. Yells when she talks. Not helpful. Tests are made for you to fail, no reviews. I had to teach myself everything because she does not lecture in class she just talks for 45 min and does not answer questions. ALOT of homework. Warning do not take her.
Do not take her, her tests are completely different from her lectures and online study tools. She basically expects you to learn the material yourself, her lectures are confusing and do not go in depth like her quizzes and tests. Lots of homework hard to delegate with other classes. Do not recommend.
Bro I've never done this, but I had to take the time to do this. Professor Chau is one of the most energetic professors ever. So if you are trying to take biology for fun, and don't care about your grade this is the class for you. Trust me on this one if you care about your grade this isn't your best option. I will say she gives 5% extra credit.
yes, enthusiastic. no, not helpful. her tests are nothing like her lectures. she does not teach in class, rather, she answers questions in class. heavy on the homework. she changed nothing whenever we went online, instead she made it more difficult. everyone in the class struggled. shes a good person, not a good professor.
It's true that you have to teach yourself the material but I retained it better that way, and she clarifies material in class. She gives extra credit too, and additional material for improving studying habits. Getting the grade you want takes time and effort, but that doesn't make her methods flawed.
A great professor! She is very enthusiastic about her class and gives lots of extra credit to boost your score. There is a lot of textbook reading outside of class but if you take notes well you will do well in the class.
Dr. Chau is a good professor teaching a challenging course. Yes, she doesnt use class time to lecture, however, she is extremely accessible outside of class. While I still wish Dr. chau used more conventional teaching methods, she is there for you and will certainly help you get your desired grade if you remain diligent and put in the work.
Dr. Chau is the sweetest professor I've ever had. She hands out a course packet at the beginning of the semester that contains an outline of the information we need to know, meaning you need to follow it and write your own notes from out of the textbook. Lectures are only to discuss questions over the notes you wrote. There is LOTS of extra credit!
Professor Chau really cares about each and every student. The layout of her class isn't for everyone (notes at home and questions in person), but I ended up preferring it. I spent countless hours in her office for extra help and she was always welcoming and excited to help. Yes, the class is hard, but she is the best Biology professor there is!
Dr. Chau is way too smart to be an intro to biology professor. She is very sweet and passionate about this subject. The only problems are that her tests are ridiculously hard! I took a test where I genuinely think it was the wrong test because it was so hard. If you have a photographic memory, you'll do fine, but if you don't, good luck.
I know that Dr. Chau has a lot of bad ratings but I do not think she's a bad professor at all. You definitely cannot just show up to class and expect to get an A but if youre willing to put in some effort it's an easy A. A good portion of your grade is simply just extra credit work and the tests don't weigh too heavily on your grade. I loved her!
Dr. Chau is a great person. She is easy to get in touch with via email. She does genuinely want you to succeed. However; her teaching style was not my favorite. Learning counted on you understanding the metrical and brining questions to class. There is no lecturing in her classes. The test are also very difficult, with no notes or open book.
If you have the chance to NOT take prof Chau, DO NOT TAKE HER! If you care about your grade, take from literally anyone else. If she doesn't like you, she won't grade you fairly. I wish I would have taken a different professor because she may have screwed up my chances of transferring to TAMU next fall.
Professor Chau is an amazing professor who really knows the material. She is always available for questioning and even created a study guide that tells you exactly what you need to know for the test. She really takes the time to get to know her students and is always very happy even early in the mornings. If you take BIOL 1406 take her!!
Professor Chau is enthusiastic about her class which makes it enjoyable. She gives you a study guide that cuts out unnecessary reading, however if you dont complete it before going to class you will be lost. She gives a lot of extra credit. If you put in the time and effort it takes to get an A, that's the grade you will receive.
100% would not recommend ever taking her. She did not tell us 1/2 the things we would need to pass the class. When we asked a question, AS AN ENTIRE CLASS, she refused to answer for 5 min and told us to look it up. She gives entire chapters to read, videos to watch, homework, etc, for 1 lesson. I had to drop the class because I got so far behind.
Dr. Chau has been an amazing professor. Many students do not like her because of the effort they are required to put into the class but if you put in the effort, listen in class, and do what she tells you, you will get an A. She truly cares about each students and wants everyone to succeed in her class but does not just hand out good grades.
Professor Chau is the worst professor I have ever had. She lectures the whole class and nothing makes sense. you can barley understand her and what she lectures is not on the Tests. You have to teach you self. Tests are VERY HARD!! If you ask questions she wont answer or will get mad. If you can pick any other professor DO IT. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
The main thing I have to say about this prof is that she cares. She wants every student to get good grades. She definitely makes you work for it, but she offers so many office hours and will answer any questions. If you do all of the work, you will be fine in class, but the tests are very difficult. Thankfully, they didn't count for that much.
The BEST, GOES ABOVE and BEYOND to help you succeed! Start with her for a firm foundation in science. USE active learning guides to guide your reading. Do ALL the work(a lot of extra credit), make your own notes. Watch videos and use the resources she gives you(they will prepare you for the tests), don't reinvent the wheel. Gives GREAT study tips
Dr Chau lives and breaths biology and botany and it shows. She's a bit goofy which I can appreciate and you're not going to pass with just listening to lectures, but every resource you could need is going to be there for you. Follow the active learning guide she gives for each unit to a T and you will pass every test. Plenty of extra credit.
Dr. Chau is the best professor I have had by far! I had her for Biology 1406 and coming from an education major who does not like science and failed 3 out of 5 tests, there is so much extra credit opportunity that I had an A most of the semester. She is easily accessible and communicates well. Follow her academic learning guides, and you're golden.
Dr. Chau is a very caring prof. She genuinely wants you to succeed and is always available to help. However if you can't teach yourself do not take her. Most of the learning is done through videos you watch outside of class. When she lectures in class it is mostly all based on the videos she posted.
Doctor Chau is a spontaneous and caring person. She wants what is best for her students and she gives plenty of opportunities to do better in her class.
Dr Chau cares about your success and does everything possible for you to get the grade you deserve. I know science isn't for everybody, but this was an easy A. She gives so many bonus points that you can get a B on every test and get an A in the class (I would know). Some study tips: watch Dr D explains stuff on yt. dont be on your phone in class,
Dr. Chau is AWESOME! She is passionate about Biology and it shows in her teaching. Likes to joke around. Make sure and keep up with your reading and "extra credit", those points could be the deciding factor of a higher letter grade. She sets up her unit concept study guide to cover all of the materials that will be on the "show offs" (test)
Professor Chau is a very competent, organized, and knowledgeable professor. The only reason I am giving her 4/5 stars is because all of the material had to be learned outside of class, and her in-class discussions were abrasive at times (come prepared!). She is very passionate about the material. Lots of extra credit opportunities! Achievable A!
Professor Chau was very difficult to understand. I like to think I'm smart, but her class was the only D I've ever received in college. Her exams are very hard/long and her lectures don't add up to the exams. She grades very hard and is nitpicky. Her extra credit didn't help and she expected you to know everything. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!
Not a huge fan of her teaching. we were expected to do everything outside of class and come questions. When we didnt have questions she would get mad and move on to prove a point and when we did ask questions she told us to look them up. I had a 79.67 and she refused to round. I never missed a class or assignment and she screwed my 4.0
If you put in the work, Dr. Chau's class is awesome. She is very energetic. I had her class at 7:45 am, and her lecture style is like a slap in the face that early in the morning, which isn't a bad thing. She is very clear on what she expects from you, and provides a ton of resources in order for you to succeed. She provides snacks before exams!
Drops some stuff, tests + final are hard. Lab exams + skills check off are easier. Tough grader on lab report. Makes you learn the material before class and come with notes completed, class is a review over notes. Lots of group work and switches ur group twice. Can come off rude at times but is caring. No curves, even when majority of class failed.
Dr. Chau is a straight-forward, energetic, and funny professor who cares about her student's wellbeing. Although, your grade will NOT be given, you must work for it. To make an A in the class, study MULTIPLE days prior to the test, do all your assignments early, and show up to class!! Grades will matter from the first week, so do NOT slack off.
Dr. Chau is an amazing professor. I had her for BIOL 1406 and 1407 and I managed to get As in both. If you show up to class regularly and take notes based off of her active learning guide, you should be able to get an easy A. There is a lot of homework, but most of it is extra credit and sometimes test questions match the questions in the homework.
Professor Chau was amazing! She really cares about her students and has passion in her teaching. She's one of the best professors i've had at Blinn. She gives tons of extra credit but there are a lot of test. You have 5 lecture exams and 3 lab exams.
Professor Chau is a caring and engaging lecturer who wants you to succeed. The class requires consistent effort, but using resources like Unstuck ai can help nail the challenging exams. Put in the work and you'll earn a solid grade.
I will never suggest anyone to take this class. She is very passionate about biology but she could care less about how you do in the class. Extra credit is offered with study sessions but if you go twice a week like I did, it only counts three times and then you have used all of your extra credit opportunities. Tutors taught more than she did.
There are a total of 10 TESTS!!! You always have to have notes done before class which is a lot and I was ALWAYS studying for this class because of how many tests there were. The lecture tests are very difficult as she makes questions so wordy and difficult to understand. Super quick at teaching so it's hard to keep up.
This professor definitely sets you up for success! If you rely on her Active Learning Guide and do all the assignments (some are extra credit and some questions show up on the test) before class like she suggests, you will do well. The only thing is she is definitely “passionate” and would yell at 7:45 in the morning and I was just not receptive.
Although the class was challenging, Dr. Chau went above and beyond to provide study material and ways of gaining extra credit without sacrificing her commitment to teaching you about biology. To succeed in her classes, you must be willing to work and utilize the resources she provides to the fullest. It was really hard, but she made it possible.
You have to come to class with your notes complete and have questions ready to ask. I felt like there was a test every week. My entire life was dedicated to this class and I still didn't get the grade I wanted. Her lectures don't always add up to the exams. I do not like her teaching style at all. She is passionate about Biology but not teaching.
Dr. Chau has been one of my favorite professors! She is very enthusiastic, sweet, and outgoing. There is so much extra credit... even if your exams scores are Bs & Cs, you can still have a high A average by doing the homework and bonus points! Also use your active reading guide (very helpful for exams), and take advantage of ETC tutoring
I thoroughly enjoyed attending class; Dr. Chau is very energetic and convivial and creates a fun learning environment, despite the difficult material. I found her active learning guides to be tremendously helpful in preparing for exams and in recalling information previously learned. Nonetheless, be prepared for a relatively heavy workload.
Dr Chau is a great professor! she explains things in a way that makes sense, and makes it very clear she cares about us a student
Please do not take this professor because you would literally make you hate your whole life, she said she's very helpful but she's not , she's doesn't teach she just talks a lot , her exams are super hard , she would only tell you to go to the ETC session but those are also not helpful, try to take this class somewhere else, the rating lied to me
i only have a small word count but let me tell you, if you need a teacher who TEACHES instead of making you learn it mostly on your own do not take her, she is rude and makes you feel dumb for asking any questions. she also does not tell the touters that she wants you to go to anything about tests as stated by them.
If you have a job or a life DONT take this class, she is a terrible teacher and expects you to already understand literally everything about biology, even though this is an intro to Bio. She yells at you for asking questions and is an extremely hard grader who gives no feedback on how to improve. She expects the tutors to teach you what she cant.
This class is terrible. Took Dr. Chau for intro to biology, HUGE MISTAKE. Do not take this class if you have a job or family, this class is very time consuming and she expects you to teach yourself. She will make you feel dumb if you ask questions or don't understand the material. She expects you to dedicate your life to her class.
