She's a great teacher. But if you're not her favorite than it sucks. She always picks on students and lots of time you feel uncomfortable. Took online section of 302, really enjoyed it. She is very accesibly and explains things to a "T". I highly recommend her. She is part of the reason ARC has one of the best English departments in the area, definitely the best in the Los Rios District. Forget what you may have heard about online English classes, she breaks the mold.

Prof. Corcoran did a good job with this class. She made the online experience easy to handle. This class is not for those who want an easy A, this class is strictly for those who are ready to learn and ready for real work. I highly recommend this class!!

An easy class to pass if you know the language and do the work. We had class discussions on all readings, which often helped when considering topics or ideas for one of the 4 major papers. No easy "A" but great if you want to improve in use of critical thinking and the English language.

The most organized online class I've taken. She's very clear on what's required, so hunting/searching for info. I thought her assignments were reasonable and she graded very easy. I recommend her class if you can keep up w/homework due 3 times per week. I liked that there was no group work required, unlike other Eng classes.

She is nice but I suggest taking another teacher if you can. She is slow at responding to email and if you ask for help she doesn't respond at all. She requires you to use sources for common known facts. She assigns a lot of busy work every week, and if you take a full load it's hard to manage it all. I took her online class, and got a good grade.

This class takes a lot of work and effort, it was really stressful. Don't take if you're taking many units because you will spend the majority of your time doing work for this class. Shes helpful but gives a lot of assignments. SEVERAL students ended up dropping. Wouldn't recommend, but you will learn a lot.

Corcoran may come off strict, but as long as you do your work she is lenient. I loved her because she is very structured and organized. She makes English fun and challenging. It is true that you will have homework every class period, but as long as you do it, you will do fine. I loved her teaching style so much that I'll be taking her for 300.

This teacher was great. You have to show up for class and pay attention, but you'll learn a lot. She's willing to meet with students and go over their papers before they get turned in. There were three big papers and one portfolio. The portfolio is half of your grade. I highly recommend this teacher if you put effort into your work.

I liked this teacher. My friends said she's hard but fair, and they're right. Friendly, interested. I don't know why people are down on her. I found her rules clear. Dont expecct an EZ ride but do expect to learn stuff. Four assignments. Puts grades in D2L quickly. Keeps the class fair to everyone.

A good english teacher. Alot of writing but then again... She uses essays from very old writers which makes them hard to understand because of the language but once she goes over them in class, it becomes much clearer. The papers were interesting to write and she helps along the way. I would take her again for a writing class if I had to take one.

Most people go on here reading these and think well maybe there grade was bad, or bad student etc. I love English, but my god... She is very hard. Philosophy, anthropology, old old language, its so hard. I broke down many times writing essays for her class because I was upset that I was having such a hard time with a subject I've done so well with!

I learned a lot, but this was probably one of the hardest classes I have ever taken and I just finished ENGWR302. It's a lot of work so be prepared! She is very willing to help students with anything! Also do NOT miss any classes, I should have recieved an A, but she gave me a B+ because of my attendance.

I loved her. Her class is hard, and it's alot of writing and work. You dont want to miss classes, she'll lower your grade if you do, but she was amazing. She makes you read articles and write responses, almost every class, at least in the beginning of the semester. She makes you work, but if you show up and do the work, your fine.

Throughout all my years of schooling I was horrible at English because I did not have much interest for it. However, when I took this class, she helped me discover this inner writer I had within me. I used the office hours and she helped me so much. She may seem hard, but with her help, she made it so easy. You want a good teacher, here she is. =]

Great teacher. She taught me a lot of things i never knew about writing a college paper and fixed a lot of bad habits I'd gotten into. She really made what I thought would be a dreadful experience into something I looked forward to every week. She's very organized, sticks to her syllabus religiously, and is a joy to learn from.

She is super nice and I enjoyed her class a lot. Shes super strict on grammar but her essays are pretty easy and you dont do that many. Just turn everything in on time and show up. She gives you a lot of time to do an essay too.. overall shes great.

I am shocked to see how many people say she is hard. She is not hard at all. I got 100% on almost all of my papers and she was always open to help. Her class is extremely interesting and fun. She picked interesting prompts and we always had group discussions about the topic before actually starting our essays. I would absolutely recommend her.

Mrs. Corcoran is a great teacher. For Engwr 302 she had a class topic, which was the idea of just war! It was a sweet topic that was easy to write about. Wrote three essays all relating to that topic. She is a fair grader. I would take her, she softens the blow of advanced college composition and critical thinking, which could be a daunting class.

Amanda Corcoran is amazing! i have taken her for 102, 300, and 302! Yes homework every night but this homework leads up to your papers. She takes time to help every student in class understand the material because some of it can be difficult. Like hobbes! And she has a cool accent

The class wasn't easy. It's a real critical thinking class. If you think you can get an easy A, it's not that type of class. This class is very interesting, and the professor is AMAZING! she is supper helpful, always answers emails and will always help a student. However, it's a class that requires a lot of work when writing your papers.

Prof Corcoran was amazing! Absolutely take her if you can. One things that's kind of bad is the textbook is specific to ARC so you can't find anywhere else, but her style is relaxed and she is very helpful for your papers. She chooses topics that are interesting and easy to write about. I liked her style so much I took her twice, engwr 300 and 302

I love that she is English, her accent is super cute!! She also does not crack corny jokes like some professors, but also isn't stiff or boring. She is very sweet. She was my favorite professor last semester!

She is an amazing professor! Her class is a bit tough but it forces you to challenge yourself and build new skills. She is very helpful and often helps students one on one when she can. We hardly used the Faigely book but the Comp and Critical thinking book was used during the whole semester.

Most of the class was spent discussing ethics and philosophy rather than writing. To be fair, this was probably to help us build our ethos (because other viewpoints will strengthen yours). Don't expect to learn perfect grammar and usage in this class. We spent some time on grammar, but you might need to go to WAC for that.

Professor Corcoran is an amazing! This class had a lot of papers but she was good in allowing you to have you own way of thinking. Professor Corcoran gave me freedom to write my own opinion (which made it easy to write essays) and not be afraid that I'll get a lower grade if she doesn't agree. She is truly an amazing educator!

Professor Corcoran is AMAING! Although this is a tough course, she breaks everything down to a much more understandable level. Homework every night but these assignments make the actual writing of the essay super easy and less daunting. She is there for you every step of the way and makes sure her students understand what is required. 10/10 Love

This was one of the best classes I've ever taken at arc! It's not an easy A by any means, but if you take this class seriously and put in the effort I promise you it's well worth it. Its a lot of ethics and subjective opinions which I enjoyed but overall its one of those classes that completely alters your perspective in life and in your writing.

You can tell she really cares about her studens & this isnt just a paycheck to her. She sends helpful emails & wants us to do good. I have a visual disibility & some teachers dont believe or understand my situation so they make it tough for me to use my electronic assistance. Prof. Corcoran was very understanding & didn't deny me my rights.

She is the nicest teacher I've ever had. She is amazing, not only is she very mellow & chill but she's also super helpful. no tests or quizzes, no final. just the extra credit option due on the day of the final by email. she does workshops & peer reviews, only 3-4 papers due all semester. she's not strict on attendance if you're doing well in class

Professor Corcoran is a really wonderful lady. Shes very respectful of all people and students. There are 3 papers and the final is optional which is 50 points of extra credit which is really nice. She is an easy grader and makes her expectations clear. Would take her again in a heart beat! I recommend her to everyone.

Heavy work but no mid term and optional final exam if needed. I enjoyed this class very much. The work load may be a little on the heavy side but we take it step by step and she will always help you if you need it with no questions asked. Her process is very precise but just show up and pay attention and do the work and you will be just fine.

Amazing English teacher! She actually cares about each of her students succeeding. She encourages you to come to her with any questions or problems with essays and makes sure you have plenty of resources throughout the year. She goes out of her way to establish good writing skills.

Professor Corcoran is a good choice if you like to read, annotate, write papers, and think critically. She's very hand out heavy and makes you work for your grade.

There is homework that she looks at to make sure you are on track, but she doesn't usually grade it. 4 papers I believe which weren't too hard as long as you follow her expectations and make sure to talk to her personally about them , it really helps.

Connects with each student and provides plenty of opportunities to help your grade if you're struggling, with an optional extra credit essay and a redo on an essay. There is some homework but she never checks it. Grades essays fairly, imo.

If you're like me and you're lazy but are good at writing then this class is for you. I figured out which assignments I had to do and which ones I didn't and after that it was easy. Got and A and didn't even have to do the extra credit final. Couple of friends who took it with me didn't do as well though, so keep that in mind.

Fantastic class! The topic of the semester was Civil Disobedience, and all the essay topics were super interesting. Nothing is graded except for the essays (which was fantastic for me) and the entire class is very flexible. She's also a fantastic person, I enjoyed all the conversations I had with her. One late and one revision pass with no penalty.

Best ENGWR professor I've had. Tough grader, but is willing to help all her students pass. 5 essays overall. Civil disobedience is her theme, which isn't my best shot, but I passed. She provides her students with 1 late & 1 revision pass to use untill a week before finals. Communication is her key. You won't regret taking her class.

Ive never had a professor who truly cared about her students. I wanted to work harder because I knew that I was appreciated in class and so was my work. Her explanations of topics are easy to understand and the assignments arent too hard. Easy extra credit. Really good intro class to take as a first year or someone getting back into college.

Corcoran is such a kind and caring prof. I loved having her class, and she spent time teaching her students breathing exercises and other tools for mental health. I'm already pretty good at English, but she actually taught me a lot more than I was expecting to learn. Taking her online class next semester!

I remember being so nervous for this online class since I'm not the best in writing. However, every essay I put my effort in I received great scores. I love her teaching style and how she does not assign any extra crap. Super straight forward and willing to help always. I loved her topic for this semester which is Civil Disobedience. Prof Corcoran is an excellent choice. She provides plenty of extra credit opportunities in case you ever need them plus she gives you a late and revision pass that can be used anytime before finals week. There are 4 papers on civil disobedience + 1 extra credit essay so be prepared to invest some time into this, it isn't quite as easy as eng 300...

I took her online course and you have 4 essays + if you're not satisfied with your grade she offers a short extra credit paper which is super easy. Overall I am so thankful I took her. She was great and her topic was awesome!!!

Prof. Corcoran respects the opinions of her students and aims the class to be like an exchange of ideas between peers. She manages to guide students without making them feel as if they are less than. Her openness to allow a variety of writing prompts is unmatched. Anyone who has taken her class must admit that she works hard for her students.

She is the best English teacher on the campus. She cares about every students and takes in consideration our lives outside the school. A lot of paper though are requied during the semester, but you'll get them done easily if you follow her syllabus and assignment schedule. Good feedbacks.

Professor Corcoran is an awesome english 300 teacher! I took her just this semester (Fall/Winter 2020) during online classes because of CO-VID it was no problem and pretty straight forward. She really replies super quick on email (max 6 hours) which is what is awesome to any question you have! She's caring I would take her again no doubt!

One of the most caring professors out there! Truly cares about students. Very encouraging, makes it a goal to make you a better writer and willing to help in any way. During this difficult time, made this course manageable. A few readings, but does it in parts every weeks, so it doesn't even seem like you're writing a big essay. Well structured!

Great professor and person. They really understand the struggle of what's going on in student's lives. They ended up making the final essay optional, to lessen stress. They give great essay feedback and are available all the time for writing help. Definitely would recommend for any writing classes.

Dont let the difficulty rating scare you off, Professor Corcoran is a fantastic educator, just dont fall behind. Professor Corcoran was extremely accommodating during my last semester, and they did a lot to help everyone succeed while also offering constructive feedback and advice. Highly recommend

3 essays and 23 discussion boards for the entire semester. No A-F grading system, but rather her own which is easier. Final month of the semester was all revision work, which is optional if you're atleast passing (so you can basically finish a month early if you're happy with your grade). Prof. is 'woke', friendly, and understanding. Pretty easy.

I took this professor for ENGWR300 too. They are an amazing teacher. They are a fair grader. You definitely have to work for it but its not a lot work and they give you a lot of opportunities to improve. I only got a bad grade due to submitting everything late but in the previous class, I got an A. Professor even gave me an extension. <3 them

She was nice, easy to reach, and offered constructive feedback. Provided detailed lesson plans. Weekly discussions and 4 essays about a short story, poem, play, and novella. Odd grading system. Sadly, halfway through the semester she was placed on sick leave. The substitute professor was nice but really busy and too hard contact

She's very clear about what she expects in her class and I've learned a lot from her. Writing is a bit of a challenge for me already so it was intimidating when I started her class, but she gave amazing feedback on how to improve. The only thing that I didn't really like was her grading scheme, which graded you on a 'complete' or 'incomplete'.

GREAT PROF!! very understanding and lenient with due dates but don't take advantage of her, lets you do revisions on the 3 biggest assignments which are the essays so you can get a good final grade, no final, does complete/incomplete grading system 10/10 recommend she also responds to emails quickly even on weekends!!

Amazing professor! Helped me to grow my writing skills significantly in a matter of months. The whole course is focused on writing several essays. She gives feedback about your outline, about your rough draft, and about your final submission which really helps with improving your skills. If you want to learn, she will teach you.

Uses a pass/incomplete grading rubric, which is later converted to a traditional grading system. 3 big essays and 1 discussion board every week. Allows revisions on assignments and is lenient with due dates. Some of the essays professor was picky with, but if you follow the feedback, it should be an easy class. Also you can finish two weeks early!

As many people are saying about Professor Corcoran, they're very lenient with due dates as well as having a grading contract instead of the usual point system. They are very compassionate toward their students and is willing to help them with revising their essays. There were also no tests or quizzes for this course which was a relief.

professor Corcoran is a very caring teacher. There was 2 essay the whole year the first 8 weeks for for the first essay and was about 800 words. the second essay was 1,000 words and was also 8 weeks to write it. She helps a lot if you need it.
