I am taking Professor Gilleland for Biological Science Lab right now and she is absolutely amazing! Probably one of my favorite professors I've had at SPC. I am horrible at any type of science but I have a strong A in her class right now. She grades very easily and is extremely helpful. I would definitely recommend taking her for bio lab.
I had her for lab and she's a great professor. She's very laid back and very helpful. Her class is very easy.
An absolute sweet heart, very kind, helpful and laid back. I have her so lecture and lab which i enjoy her. Test are based off her powerpoints so all you need to do is just study that, also she'll give little hints on what is going to be on the test during lecture so be on the look on for that. Her lab is fun and a very laid back environment.
i have to honest about Dr.Gilleland she a sweetheart and a good professor, but just be very aware if you have her for lecture the wording on her tests are very tricky and it will get you. For myself i put a lot of time into studying for lecture and i still end up getting a bad grade. For her lab she is also tricky, shes good but its not an easy A.
Very sweet, funny professor! I bombed the first test because the wording was much different than her power points. However, I got high scores on the remaining tests. Class consists of 3 tests and a final. NO EXTRA CREDIT. She WILL help you if you go to her. She emailed me direct pages to look at that would be on the test. Study mainly vocab
She's pretty straight forward. No surprises.Gives power points so no need to purchase a textbook. The 1st test is the hardest but after that your good. Hope she teaches biology 2 in the future.
Enthusiastic, fun class, a little unorganized. takes forever to post our grades, but fair. rec for future classes, lab is easier than lec, obviously, but study for quizzes in lab, very helpful prof. go to class if you want your participation 5%.
Awesome teacher. Highly recommended. She took awhile to post grades but other than that she is very pleasant and her lectures and tests are easy to understand.
I took her for both lecture and lab for Bio 1 and 2. She is extremely easy, the study guide covers everything on her test. No homework and extra credit is so easy. Highly recommend if u want A in Bio
This teacher is extremely unorganized. Takes forever to post your grade on angel. The study guide is useful but takes her forever to post it on angel, for example test is on THURS and the study guide did not get posted until TUES afternoon. Her lab is a bit easier. If you like to study ahead, this is not your teacher. Nice but she's not helpful :(
This teacher is extremely unorganized and takes forever to post your grade on angel. Does not respond to emails or phone calls. Sets test dates online for one day only. Posts assignments late.
This has my worst experience with an online class ever. I have three emails that I have printed for documentation that were never replied to. My grades for assignments I did in week 1 are still not in Angel, extremely unorganized and very sporatic assignments. Tests are very difficult even with study guides and hours studying. Would not recommend.
This by far has been the WORST online class and professor that I have experienced. It is now the end of the semester and I have NO grades inputted. I have printed out at least 3 emails I have sent her with absolutely NO response. No organization. No effort. Test are ridiculously hard. Absolutely disappointed in taking this class.
Ms. Gilleland is heartless! I missed the proctored mid-term due to work (Which I emailed her about) when I tried to reschedule and she wouldn't return any of my e-mails! It's not a matter of the work being hard, it's a matter of her being the worst teacher at SPC! DO NOT TAKE HER IF YOU KNOW WHATS GOOD FOR YOU!
Dr. G is an angel. I feel blessed she was my professor. I had her for Bio II & while bio a tough subject, she is very fair. She is a little slow on grading, but that didn't bother me, or change the outcome. I read the book, but everyone used the PP's just fine! For lab, I brought my camera and stayed to make sure I knew all important structures. A!
I took this course on-line. She pretty much uses her power points but unfortunately she sometimes uses questions on her tests that are from chapters you have not been assigned yet. VERY SLOW on posting grades - and don't ask her about them or your scores will be lower. Interesting course though
Took face-to-face and found it easy. She explains everything. You have to study to grasp the logic of envirn sci. She gives you 5% bonus to your grade for participating. She will give you a makeup test with valid reason. Some questions on exams require thought. Earned A+(recieved A). Highly rec.
Do not take on-line. Offers very little direction, rude, and responds sporadically to emails. She failed to give all students access to the test (technical snafu?), then offered 50% credit to take the test later. I withdrew because I refuse to take a F when I earned an A.
Terrible teacher, one day to take a test that the material was not released untill after the test. does not follow the sylabus. do not email her because you wont't get anything back. forever to grade. If you have A&P BIO and chem book you will be fine. By far the worst class I have ever taken.
Easy Class. The Poor posts are bogus, they just didn't study and then blame teacher. She is extremely fair and helpful to anyone. Inaccurate comments demean point of this site.
I think the poor comments are from the same person trying to bash excellent professor.
A great professor - genuinely cares about her students and loves biology.
A great Professor - very helpful and she loves biology and environmental science
She is very slow in grading, I just got a grade a month later on a posting. She is slow in emails as well. Her tests are hard and I will see what midterm is like tomorrow. I do not recommend her !!
Horrible. Class is miserable with this professor. My lab professor explains everything more clearly than she does in lecture. Her tests are not hard, but the wording makes everything seem more complex than necessary. Almost always late, slow at grading tests, and participation points are a way for her to grade you based on her biased views.
She's not a bad teacher. She is a very enjoyable person, but sometimes gets carried away and off subject. Her wording on her tests is a lot different from how she teaches which results in some low test scores. Wouldn't take her for lecture again, but would recommend her for lab definitely.
She is so nice and if you ask her for help she is very willing to give it to you, however you must study HARD to pass her exam because her lecture and exams are totally different.
Tests were warm when handed out. Which explains why she doesn't answer emails. She does everything last minute. Lecture was great if you already learned what you need to know in anatomy. Tests dont match up with pp slides bc they are someone elses slides. How long does is it take to grade a scantron? I wont be taking her again do w/e u want gl
Dr. Gilleland is a star and I could not imagine taking the course with any other professor. She provides ample opportunity for students to ask for help and lectures are rarely if ever dry; light textbook use as she provides lecture note presentations online which covers pretty much everything she tests on. Overall she's awesome!
I took this class online. It was too hard but it wasn't easy either. The teacher though had horrible communication. I could write her and not get a response for 3-4 days which to me is unacceptable if I am paying to take this class whether online or in person I expect communication and respect in return. I wouldn't suggest her as a professor.
Worst online teacher ever!!!!! Disorganized, rude, post tests late and only gives access for a day or so,doesn't grade until much later, gives NO feedback for grading, very little instruction, hides assignments in powerpoints. If you miss a test for sickness, she will tell you her opinion about what you should do against dr. advice. Liability SPC!
ONLINE -Do not take her, she doesn't know how to teach this class. Test have nothing to do with all the book reading required. Many questions no where to be found. Very frustrating class, won't post info in advance to work ahead, just not a good teacher. No real assignment guides, they just pop up and she expects you to do within notice.
Not a good online teacher & she doesn't know this course. She doesn't test from the book or PP, not sure where she gets the questions. Save time & get another teacher.
Class was easy and well organized I just did the work when I was suppose to took the exams and scored an A very little effort and professor was crystal clear she always helped and provided answers If you fall behind that's your fault any science class is like that lots of information and terms to learn and memorize that's science
Excellent class professor is perfect she always tells you what to study she is extremely fair no one should ever earn less than a C online classes require constant work if you don't like always reading and surfing take it face-face stop easy class nice instructor very fair
Easiest class I ever had excellent professor super nice fair does not overload you exams are super easy she's available at Seminole if you need to talk to her always happy and friendly best professor at SPC wish she taught more science classes highly rec :-)
This is THE worst teacher I've yet to encounter. She hasn't responded to a single e-mail or entered any grades, aside from the first test and the midterm (on which she entered a lower grade than was displayed when I finished). Convenient lack of rubric.Be sure not to miss the INTEGRAL first assignment: reading a PPT about her+generic About Me quiz.
This instructor is not helpful, and is even disrespectful in her replies. Good luck setting up a meeting with her, she isn't available during her published office hours. Which is OK if you never have an issue or question that requires her cooperation to resolve.
One of the easiest professors I have had! Took the wrong professor the first time, retook the class with her and got an A. If you can't pass the class with her then you should rethink your major.
She is an okay teacher, except she is extremely slow in her grading process. Expect your exams to be graded weeks later. No grades other than 4 tests and a final. The exams are very difficult and very tricky, don't waste your time with the study guide. They are COMPLETELY irrelevant to the exam itself. Do not suggest taking her. Save yourselves.
Good teacher and very helpful. She always answered my email questions though sometimes it took a day or so.
classes are very interactive - questions, class discussions, video clips
Awesome teacher. Lectures aren't boring, tries to keep it interesting. Do the study guides she gives, show up to class and you should not get anything lower than a B.
Awesome professor. Makes it fun!
Someone who took this class rated her a lot falsely, to bring down her grade. Don't believe them. Her class is always closed early. Why do you think that happens? Think! Enjoy biology with her now because one day she will be Dean and might not have time for bio 1 & 2 and only teach advanced bio. Think people, think. Enjoy !
Best Biology professor EVER. She is awesome and so are her lectures.
She is an amazing teacher and changed my view of the medical field. She made biology fascinating and I'm glad I took her. Biology isn't an easy class so you do have to put effort in it. Her study guides doesn't match the tests so make sure to take really good notes during her lectures. She's laid back & always trying to help you succeed.
The lectures were provided with not only PowerPoint slides, but also with videos. Her grading method was very clear; however, it did take a while for the assignments to be graded. Overall, she was a very helpful instructor and would answer any questions asked.
Class is not easy by any means. A LOT of information especially if taken during the summer semester. You really have to read the book and go over all the extra materials she provides (which is a lot) in order to really grasp all the concepts. As long as you aren't lazy, you will pass with flying colors. Test review sheets are amazing. Great prof.
Not the very best professor. Gives good lectures and you have access to all power points. Shows videos and pictures for a better understanding of the material. Exams can throw you off though. Creates her own questions which can be confusing at times. Do not memorize definitions, as test questions are not about definition.
Easy class. Dont need textbook just follow her power points. However, not a good person. Claims she wants you to come to office hours, even says "I have candy!" But its all talk. When you actually go to office hours she pays very little attention and shows no interest. Two faced, and very mean. I have never met such an insincere prof.
Had her for Bio 1. Did not like her whatsoever, she was always late to class and she read right off the slides of her power point which made the class boring. Would not take her again nor recommend for Bio 1 just all around did not learn a single thing from her.
Worst professor I have ever taken she claims that if you study you'll do well however that's not the case because her test questions are always so difficult and sometimes it's not even on that chapter. Make sure you take the optional online quizzes cause they really aren't optional she just says that!! If you decide to take her good luck :)
Dr Gilleland was a solid choice, I actually really learned a lot about sustainability & the environment through this class. She's a decent grader and even let me turn in a lab a day late. I took her online but would've totally taken in class too. the proctored midterm & final are NOT like the study guide.. Study the quizzes and you'll do fine.
She's a great professor. She cares about whether or not you learn and is available in her office almost every day.
I took her for an online class. Her quizzes seemed easy most of the time but once in a while, I would get a question that seemed to come out of no-where. I couldnt find the answer after looking through notes, the book, or her presentations. Her study guides worked great for the mid-term and final. Would take again.
Dr. Gilleland is the best! Took her class for Bio 1 and 2. Would definitely recommend her
Shes very good at explaining stuff and shes around campus every day.
The online class was interesting. Some really good videos. Tests are that hard but you have to study - use the study guides she gives you.
Don't expect any feed back on the work you turn in, even if you request it. Fair grader overall. There is work to do but it is not that hard. Do the work and get a good grade.
Very sweet person. Slow grader. Test questions worded to make you think. Not easy. Shes available to help though which was nice.
I took her for Bio 1 and 2. I never studied for either and never did any of the quizzes before a test and I get B's. If you just show up and listen to the lecture you are guaranteed to pass. She gives extra credit before each test and has 1 or 2 quizzes do between each test and its on;y 3 or 4 test the whole semester. She thoroughly explains stuff
I loved her, I live a little far from the campus she teaches at so I wasn't able to go to all the lectures. Nonetheless, I still got an A, she gives 4 tests and a final, all multiple choice, and online quizzes. Her Study guides are super helpful as long as you study of the powerpoints, no need for the book all you need is to read the powerpoints!!
Professor Gilleland was amazing! Her lectures were always interesting & included good videos. She explained things in a way that was easy to understand & was always available to answer questions. The online quizzes were simple. The tests were straight forward as well, but studying definitely helped. She provides study guides & extra credit.
There's a lot of resources in this class such as videos and power points. She is also available after class. There's a study guide for the test, but the wording on the exam makes the question very difficult to understand that's the only down fall for this class. There's also four tests and they're mutiple choice and some short answers.
Professor Gilleland is a really good professor. If you don't understand something, she'll take the time to help you understand it. She is very video in class heavy. She teaches from PP. There are quizzes on my courses every couple weeks. You don't have to go to class to pass. The tests are straight forward from the study guide. Highly recommend.
Dr. Gilleland is very good at explaining bio stuff. She gives study guides and a little bit of extra credit. She is nice and friendly.
No textbook was required, all reading material was provided via power point slides and links to articles. A study guide is provided at the end of each module which helps for quizzes/exams. The final wasn't proctored/was open note due to COVID-19, so that was nice of her. Overall seems okay but if online, don't expect to hear from her in any aspect.
Took Prof. Gilleland for BSC 2010 & BSC 2011 honestly everything is already laid out for you, really hard to FAIL the class as long as you put in the time to study the notes on the PP's and take notes on a couple vids you'll do fine. Gives out many chances for extra credit and the study guides prior to exams are helpful. 10/10 would recommend!
This class is relatively easy with a quiz and lab on every module. As long as you read the textbook and take notes on every single slide given, you will pass the class. The topic itself was very engaging and the few videos that were recommended were both interesting and thought-provoking. The exams are difficult and focus on very minute details.
The class itself is an easy A, but don't expect her to answer your emails in a timely manner or even at all. She also opens the course material as you go, so if you like to work ahead, that's not an option. She also will not show you what questions you get wrong on the quizzes, so it makes it hard to study for her PROCTORED exams.
Professor Gilleland's online course was very independent. She had everything laid out in 2 week increments and it was very organized. If you are an independent learner, she is a great professor to have. The labs are simple and fun and she gives study guides for everything!
The teacher does not teach out of the book, does not grade with feed back, and you get one chance on every assignment. The hardest part is trying to get a good grade and improve with out feedback on what questions you got wrong and with no way to get extra credit.
The class itself wasn't too difficult if you read the material. All the quizzes were based on the handouts. Unfortunately, you did not know which answers you got wrong on the quizzes or open-book exams. The 2 big exams were proctored and were based on the quizzes and practice exams. No textbook is needed for this class. would take professor again.
Is you are a self sabotaged then this class is for you. Professor Gilleland has showed nothing but unprofessionalism and is non responsive. Get ready to hate the semester
Answers emails pretty fast
No book required or needed for the class so you save money. Professor answers emails and is helpful.
She gave study guides for every test and you can use notes for some of the tests. Easy homework!
The in person part of the class was good. She is good at explaining hard stuff like photosynthesis and enzymes. She gives a little extra credit for every exam and a bunch of practice quizzes.
Do not take her, she is extremely touch and does not care about her students. Her attitude is very bad and does not explain any thing related to Biology. She will make you hate Biology. She never responds to emails. She uses other professors PowerPoints in her class and goes very fast over them.
Great Prof Very good at explaining things
I took her class online. Very understanding if something comes up and will work with you, just communicate. Weekly quizzes, discussions and homework with labs. None of it is to hard, just do your work and you will pass. Definitely a good teacher!
She did not take her time to go over material and said it's "self-explanatory". We would get through 3 full PowerPoints in one class because she wouldn't taker her time to teach. The stuff she did decide to explain was common knowledge. Tests were worth 75% of our grade while quizzes and assignments made up the other 25%. I do not recommend her.
Good professor that cares about her students. A lot of course material, but her lectures are fun and thorough. Available for additional help and answers all questions kindly. Tests are a big part of the grade, but they are multiple-choice. Additional quizzes and smaller assignments are given throughout the semester. 10 outta 10 would recommend.
Power point presentations are not organized, have several grammatical errors, and don't make sense. Assignments are intense and do not make sense. Professor will give you a zero if you don't complete an assignment to her liking but gives no constructive feedback. Test instructions are not accurate. Professor is slow to respond to emails.
Professor Gilleland is really understanding. Super easy to reach and fixes any issues fast. Labs were easy to complete and tests are open book. Prepare to read a lot and watch long videos. There are 8 labs & mini-quizzes and 4 Exams throughout the semester. New modules released every few weeks. Pay attention to due dates and you'll be just fine!
Absolutely one of my favorite professors. Professor Gilleland makes sure her students understand the assignments that are being given. The class itself is very well organized. However, if you don't like environmental science I would not take it. Hands down, my favorite class this semester because of how she structured her class. DEFINITLEY AMAZING.
I enjoyed having Dr. Gilleland for bio 1. Her lectures were always interesting to learn from, and she engages well with questions. It was a hybrid class, which makes making up notes easier since she does go through the power point slides quick.
