Fun Teacher. Good Personality. Willing to help when problem arises. Understanding. She shows fun movies! Take her if you can.
easy class. ok, nothing special.
Sweet teacher with a genuine interest in both the course material and the students' learning. I would love to take additional courses with Amanda in the future.
terrible teacher. all she did for sex gender and culture was have slides and we had to copy them verbatem as she read them to us. the class could have been so much fun. she gets info from wikipedia. she's also cutting the semester short to go to egypt. avoid her unless you want a mind numbing A.
Wow, I'm shocked by the previous comment. Amanda Groff is a great teacher. Yes, there is alot of notes but the tests are straight from the notes, she doesn't try to trick you. She is very organized and has many interesting stories. She even gives points for attendance. You would have to be really lazy to not get an A.
Awesome professor!!!! She is very nice and got me interested in anthropology. Btw, whoever said she uses wikipedia is wrong. I asked if I could borrow the book where she got all the info on the Trobriand islanders and she happily let me borrow it! Definitely take the class! Not too hard either! Love the class project!
I'm surprised someone gave her a bad review. She was awesome. Class was very interesting and tests were straight from the notes. She is very clear in what she wants and the class project is fun. Far from "mind numbing." She takes attendance, but it's easy extra points. Weekly discussions are easy. Take her if you can!!
She's a really great teacher! Make sure you go to every class session though. You will need the notes to do good on her tests. Other than that, she's really easy!
Prof. Groff is the best-she really knows her stuff. Also, for exams, she tells you exactly what to study, which is great for you to ace the tests. Go to class and you'll get extra credit!!!
The class was okay, but being an online course made it difficult to complete the assignments correctly. The information was not in the book or on the lecture notes and use of the internet resulted in incorrect responses. Some assignments did not provide clear instructions which also resulted in incorrect responses.
Took summer course. The material was fairly easy to understand and def reading the textbook helps. Some of her assignments are difficult and the answers cannot be found online, in the text, or in the notes. So be prepared.
She makes me want to be an anthropologist. This is a pretty easy class; a lot of room for creativity which keeps it interesting. As a professor she is so interesting and has such a great personality!
The course itself is difficult. You must read your textbook.Professor Groff is great.
i took human species online and it was a pretty easy class. shes really nice! some assignments are a little hard but she is very fair! i would recommend her!
I took this class online and other than 2 really difficult assignments (and the quizzes for those chapters) I got A's on everything! Pay close attention when she says that the hard assignments are coming up and read those chapters two or three times and you will be alright!
I really underestimated this course. from what I know, I don't think it was very difficult. It was my 1st time taking an online course, and I was struggling w/ another course, Calc 3, and put more time into that. i waited to do the first HW assignments until the last day or 2, big mistake. never finished, had to withdrawal. DON'T PROCRASTINATE!
This is the way an online course should be done. Yes you have to do some work but if you just sit down and do it, its not bad. Prof. Groff has excellent communication with her students and will help you out. Assignments due every few weeks- questions and quizzes for the chapters. no exams. Plus she offers extra credit. Take Her!!!
This was a great/easy class. She makes it so you have to go over the material, but not study so hard that it takes up all your time. Highly recommended and you can finish the class in one month if you really wanted.
(Online) Yes she's great, but her questions suck. She switches up True/False ordering in quizzes, includes answers that shouldn't be correct. Her quizzes are definitely tricky, not to the point of failing, but to the point of losing points for no reason at all. She won't give you credit, either.
Took class online during 6-week summer A term. Assignments were not heavy, lots of reading. Class was fairly easy, but learned quite a bit. Grading was fair and feedback was given for all assignments. Response time for emails and postings were very good. Would definitely recommend for online course. One warning, tests and text didn't always seem
Had her for summer, learned somethings even though I only did minimum amount of work. Got a B so can't complain.
Sex & Culture Summer Term. Made class very interesting. a lot of discussion. Tests and assignments fair. Cared about students and wants you to succeed. Would definatly take more classes with her!
Professor Groff is absolutely amazing. A few assignments and tests in certain classes can be tough, but I think I have learned more from her than any other professor. She is extremely helpful and makes herself available to the students a lot. I am a very hard worker, and struggled with a few assignments, but got an A in the classes I have taken.
I took Sex, Gender and Culture and I thought the class was really interesting and Professor Groff really tries to make it not so much of a shock. You have to keep up with the postings weekly and go to class. As long as you look at the notes before you take your tests and make sure you study! But she's a really great helpful teacher!
I loved this teacher. She's passionate about her subject, and that comes through. I learned a lot. Show up, take notes, do the homework, study a little before the test--get an A. No problem. She gives extra credit opportunities too. She genuinely cares about the students and wants to help you succeed.
Great professor! Everything is straight forward. you have to attend class because she does take attendance but it's worth it just come to class. She posts the lecture notes and all you have to do is come to class and fill in blanks. Everything is easy I got an A.
Magic, Ritual & Belief online. Read a chapter a week, take an online quiz and do a fun assignment. She mixes up the assignments to keep it interesting. Great teacher. Had her for another class last semester. Would definitely take again. Makes learning fun. Book is enjoyable to read. Exams are reasonable and fair. I got an A.
Very helpful. Recommend for anyone
Professor Groff is extremely sweet and caring. She is very helpful and makes class super interesting. She responds quickly to emails and is very fair. Every professor should be as awesome as her!
Prof Groff is really nice and helpful...i think she's a really cool professor. Summer B it's alot of information to take in and there are only 2 tests (each over around 8 chapters) but if you go over the notes and definitions (important) you can do good on the exam. I didn't try as hard as I should have, but I ended with an 89.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! I have taken Professor Groff online twice now, once for ANT 2000 and once for ANT 2511, she is the best teacher at UCF, grades fairly, gives pleanty of opportunity to ask questions, and never has a problem helping you out if you are confused.
Great teacher. Showed lots of interesting and funny videos. Go to class so you dont miss the lectures. Her powerpoints have extra pictures to help you understand the concepts more. Only 2 tests, so study hard and dont slack. Also read the book, she takes a couple things from there for the test.
She was a great professor. Her lectures were somewhat boring, but she tried to make them interesting. As long as you attend class and follow the power points that she posts online you can easily get an A.
Prof Amanda is a wonderful teacher, she will respond to emails or questions immediately. Read the book and take notes her quzzes are based on the book. the exams are detailed based from the chapters. The university should have more professors like her.
This class was online. It was an extremely interesting course and the Professor was amazing. She makes you do some work but if you copy all the notes from the Power Points and SAVE them. You will have an A in the class no doubt. Groff always responded to emails and discussions really quickly and wanted you to succeed in the course. Take her!
She's AMAZING. She's so sweet and helpful, definitely knows her stuff. I took her for an online course and it was honestly my favorite experience with a virtual class to date. The layout of assignments and readings is so simple and easy to follow, she even made video lectures! Take notes, read a bit, and easily walk away with an A. Take her!
She is has awesome lectures which she makes interesting by cracking jokes & encouraging questions. She's very helpful & available. I have taken every one of her classes & LOVED ALL of them. Take her!
Fabulous teacher! She has a very clear schedule to follow and makes everything understandable!
i seriously wonder when i see the things people wrote below. Unless you want to rip your hair out, lose points because the way she words the questions to trick you, and stress the whole semester, sure, take her.
I read the chapters through two times each, made my own outlines, read the powerpoints and supplmental material, and still you can barely pull off a C without struggling. The questions are tricky. Might as well not read the book because she asks questions that no one in a 2000 level course would know or be able to find. Dont do it
By far the easiest class I've ever taken. Plus, she's super sweet and funny. =]
Have to work hard for your grade. dont take online though
Really great class. Go to class, she has random, easy pop quizzes and her lectures are very helpful and interesting. DO VOCAB AND YOU SUCCEED! Really easy B...work for A
Great professor! took it online and got an A. No final, just homework with a quiz for each chapter. Need the book, but it is a nice GPA booster. SHe is very responsive and offers extra credit as well.
This professor is great! She was very organized and responds quickly. Her lectures are very interesting and the work load is easy. The exams are multiple choice and very straightforward. no papers, just short answer assignments that are fun. I learned a lot in this class and I will be taking any other class that she teaches. Take her!!!
Great online class. Self paced, as you complete one module the next one opens. I was able to complete the entire course in a week. She always responds to emails and discussion questions. Excellent class if you read the material.
Very nice teacher. Gives tests but if you take good notes from her videos, everything from that is on her tests. Gives papers and assignments but not hard either, just follow instructions and not hard to do. She works with you and a very nice teacher to deal with. Need book but not the typical book, but do need for tests.
Great professor!! I took the class in summer B 6 weeks. It was easy! She didnt curve, but she gave extra credit for an easy assignment (15 points)!! Read one chapter and do one quiz per chapter. Couple of assignments that were hard but we had 2 hrs to do it, so it was ok! I really enjoyed her class. I recommend her!!!
Great teacher. Took the class online and even though there was some challenging assignments, she was always helpful and responded almost immediately.
Bad teacher. Nice person but this isnt a website about them as a person. I struggled, the material is dry and she does word questions tricky. Not an easy A, nor B. Try someone else for a more pleasant experience.
She's a real sweetheart, not that it's relevant. Lectures are interesting, although she does kind of spoonfeed them to you by giving them to you printed with fill in the blank lines. But I guess that can be helpful to a lot of people. But the material is informative, quizzes and tests are good, and overall it is a great class.
Directions on what to study and then what the actual assignment is comprised of are two different things. I actually cried - I studied so hard; flashcards, chart, the chapter and her questions (if they are in the Chpt) I can't find them.
I took this class online. She responds to her emails quickly and grades fair. You do need to double check your quizzes because they are graded electronically and if you miss spell the word,it will be incorrect..also, read the rules of each assignment..she stands by them, over all it was an easy interesting course..
I took this class online and liked that it was self-paced. Some assignments were hard and some were easy. You must have the book to help you through assignments. She was an okay professor and responded fast, which is appreciated in an online class. She will not baby you. Overall, I would say take her to fulfill your General Education requirement.
I've had professor Groff for 3 or 4 classes. Her courses are easy to the point of not even being a challenge. She's nice and easy-going but it's incredibly difficult to take her seriously. Her busywork assignments are frustrating when you have other real classes.
For all who say she gives to much work must be lazy. I really enjoyed her class. He work and test were easy. I took the class online. All the test and assignment answers are in the book and notes. I learned a lot from her. There was a decent amount of work but nothing that the regular college student couldn't handle. I got a B+ TAKE HER CLASS
Really nice teacher. She gives you the powerpoint notes in advance and in class you fill in the blank as she goes through each slide. I rarely used the book. Seriously...I don't even remember opening a page. She doesn't take attendance but she gives pop quizzes a lot that counts for 5 points. I recommend her.
If you are actually interested in the material you will be learning about, don't take her class. If your aim is to learn something and challenge yourself, don't take the class. But if you're just looking for an easy A from an obviously bored professor, go for it.
Do not take this class. The work amount was way too much, the tests were ridiculous, the powerpoints were useless, and the notes were not helpful. I took this class online and I did not enjoy one bit of it. Avoid this class!!!!
Challenging class. Book is a must. You can finish it in one month if you wanted, but dont procrastinate because if you miss one assignment, it locks you out of everything else...epic fail. Taken ONLINE ANT 2511
Prof. Groff was amazing. This course is interesting and very thought provoking. Probably my fave class ever. Modules are biweekly, tests cover the article readings and video lectures from the modules. extra credit is offered. Very attainable A
Maya Archaeology. This was in class, not online. She is so helpful and nice. She gives you the powerpoints ahead of time and you fill in the blanks, and she'll hand you a study guide. Don't even BOTHER with the study guide. Just study the notes, because the guide is a literal list of EVERYTHING in your notes. If you don't study, don't bother.
If you need a science credit, take this class online. No final and small number of assignments. Mostly quizzes which are on the readings which you have right in front of you. Easy class. Actually interesting reading. each module released after completing. at your own pace.
This class requires that you actually study to get a good grade, so if you want someone to hand you an "A" then don't take the class. P. Groff was so nice and helpful. There are quizzes & assignments that are put into module. You must be careful not to let the module close or you will not be able to continue. This was an online class & very doable.
I took this class online, a lot of people complained about the tricky questions, although I found an A in the class to be very obtainable. Loads of extra credit, no final, work at your own pace. Order the e-book from the publisher, it makes searching for key terms in the questions so much easier. ;) Highly recommended for last science course.
I took this class online and was completely finished with all of the work, including the final, halfway through the semester. You work at your own pace, it's VERY interesting, and it's an easy A. I definitely recommend this class if you are in need of a Liberal Arts credit
Prof Groff is really nice and every clear on what she expects from you. Usually has fill in the blank notes to go along with her lecture and the occasional pop quiz after a lecture that you are allowed to use notes on. She's interested in the topic so it makes learning from her much more enjoyable, definitely recommend.
this woman was the best anthropology teacher i've ever had. she has real world experience and lectures very well. she always keeps my interest and it doesnt take much to get an A in her class. she has easy pop quizes she uses for attendence but all you need to do is show up.
This is my second class with Groff and it was even easier than the first one. I loved learning about the material and how she did the video lectures. Like her other online class, it was self paced and I was finished with the entire course by Spring Break. She responds fast, to emails. Few questions from the book on the exams but would still rent it
took online class, super easy. very helpful...everything is crystal clear...hw and quiz for each chapter...extra credit...if you put effort there should be no reason u dont get a good great...gives u outlines, vocab cards, powerpoints, and crossword puzzles for each chapter. great teacher!
I took her for Maya Archaeology and Ancient Incas, she's a great professor. She's fun and nice and very organized. Didn't really have much use for the books other than for projects, her test are straightforward and attendance is a must!
This is the second class I have taken with Prof. Groff, and I enjoyed this course even more than the first (ANT2511). She is very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful. She grades fairly and gives good, useful feedback! I wish I could take all of my ANT course with her!
Online course, crystal clear expectations. Bi-weekly modules with mini-quizzes (5Q's), assignments and video lectures. She reminds you when everything is due, and has offered extra credit for the course. If you don't pass, it's your fault! Highly recommend!
Took General Anthropology online, very doable A. No midterm or final, just an assignment and a quiz every week. As long as you read the book and the powerpoint slides you're golden. I finished the class weeks early because you can work at your own pace. I definitely recommend Professor Groff & good luck!!!
Prof Groff is amazing! She is super nice and is willing to help you every step. The course is semi-easy, you really need to read the book, get it on chegg. She has it set up that you work at your own pace. But you have to finish 3 modules every 3 weeks. N she gives extra credit at the end of the course to help bump you up. Definitely an easy class.
Very nice, took course online, she answered questions quickly, and clearly. Quizzes and assignments are straight-forward.
I took this class online and it was easy but interesting. The professor was helpful but grading was slow due to a lot of people in the class. I finished the class within 3 weeks since it's at your own pace and got an A, and I was only taking it for gen ed. Highly recommended :)
I effing love this lady! she is amazing. I would take any class she teaches. she is really young and her class is so easy a monkey could pass it. Do yourself and your GPA a favor and take her classes!
Easy class, just do your work and you'll be fine. It's at your own pace. The only thing is that spelling counts, so if you're one letter off, you just missed an entire question for a quiz, and she doesn't change grades. She is very nice, however. Easy A.
I really liked her online class. Its an easy A if you do the reading and you can just look up most of the answers online. She was VERY helpful and cared alot. Plus shes hot as hell.
Incredibly clear expectations. Some professors are so vague about assignment requirements but Groff's modules are outlined clearly, which is very refreshing. The req'd book is composed of interesting articles, instead of your typical dull, linear textbook. Has engaging video lectures so the course isn't so focused on reading, reading, reading.
Easy class, didn't read the chapters - though, I was able to find a copy of the book online, so during the quizzes I would search through the document for the answers as well as use google. Really seems nice and like she cares. 8 modules, each has 2 quizzes and an assignment. Easy. Take online though.
She makes things so easy! If you're taking the online class, buy the book and just use the the notes that she gives when you're taking the tests!
Easy but tedious, a waste of time. She doesn't enable the PowerPoints to be printed so you have to go through ALL 30 minute PowerPoints where she just reads them to you, it's pointless. I'm sure she's nice but this class is so awful especially if you're not an Anthropology major. Take this as a warning don't take her online class.
Got an A in this class but it was NOT easy. You must read every chapter from beg to end in order to answer the quizzes. She gives you 60 minutes to do the quiz and honestly I dont think its enough because her questions are so detailed. Assignments are weighted more than quizzes and her Rubric on grading is picky. No one ever got a 100 on an assign
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. HER ASSIGNMENTS WEIGHT MORE THAN QUIZZES, AND SHE IS EXTREMELY PICKY WHEN IT COMES TO ANSWERS LACKING SMALL DETAILS SUCH AS EXCLAMATION MARKS, PERIODS, COMMAS, REALLY STUPID THINGS.
Difficult class. If you are trying to work a full time job and go to school, this is not an easy-peasy online class that you want to take.
Best online class I've taken. It was very interesting. She helped me when I needed it and the class was easy to keep up with. Not a super easy A, but if you care about your grades you'll do fine. I really enjoyed this class.
She was terrible when it came to grading assignments. They are all graded by her TA's and they are unhelpful and extremely picky about things irrelevant to the subject. If you want an easy online class when it comes to quizzes then this is it. With the ebook you can search all the questions from the quizzes. Google also helps too.
I would NOT take another class with "Prof Groff", as she refers to herself. All grading and communication is through her TA's, I don't think I communicated with her once all semester. The TA's answer all emails and their answers rarely clarify anything. Their grading is crazy-picky. Info on PowerPoints is rarely what you are quizzed on.
I took this class as an elective thinking it was going to be easy but WOW. The prof is a very nice lady but her assistants are something else. I know this is college but they were extremely picky about what they wanted to see and the quizzes were definitely a challenge.
Definitely not an easy class. If you like a challenge, by all means go for it! Although "Prof Groff" is very detailed as to what she wants, it is almost impossible to get an A on her assignments. Her TA's are VERY nitpicky and scrutinize every aspect of your work. Assignments weight more than quizzes, and the time allotted for them is not enough!
I took her online and you need the book! It is very hard to find the answers on google. This teacher is not helpful at all, she was also very hard to understand and contradicting at times too! Very irrational
I took her class in the summer as a freshman which was much more difficult than other terms as warned. It wasn't the easiest class but was doable-I had an A most of the semester. My grade dropped bc 6modules were due the week my grandmother passed away so I lost focus. Quick to reply & is understanding. You need the book. Take her for your GenEd!
I would take her again because I enjoyed her use of video for lecture versus reading; however, you have to write down every single word she says because it may show up on the Exam (not weekly quiz). I recommned screenshots of the PowerPoint. I despise (+/-) grading. I had straight A's if not for her A-. Sad part, is I did my best. Not an easy A.
I loved her class! She posts PowerPoint lectures with audio, and learning the information is so much easier than reading on your own. Definitely cares about her students and their success. Always sends reminders about deadlines and quickly responds to emails. One of the most interesting classes I've taken!
I LOVE this class and teacher.I will take every other ANT course I can w/her.Quick response to emails and grading.Great interaction, and even helped me towards setting up a field research experience.Modules are progressive,so when 1 completes you move to next which I love.PPT lectures easy to follow and take notes from;book readings very interesting
You have a good chunk of time to get your assignments finished. She does them in modules, you usually have a quiz plus an assignment for each module. She grades fairly. The textbook is important, take notes. The class is a lot more scientifically oriented than I expected. There is a lot of biology involved. Good class.
This class was super interesting. I learned a lot from it, but there was a lot of work and you had to put in the effort. I don't regret taking it at all though, because the information I used has been valuable. She is super into geographical locations which was a drag, but I suppose necessary. I am taking another class of hers and would take more!
Professor Groff is completely checked out from this course. It's all "do-it-yourself" work. Eleven modules aligned w the eleven chapters in the textbook. Assignment & quiz in each. She gives very little time for the quizzes and tests. Multiple articles to read outside of textbook reading. Multiple video assignments. 3 exams including the final.
Professor Groff is a great professor! I really enjoyed her online class, it is set up to move at a fast pace if desired. She gives ample time to submit your assignments and replies to emails in a decent time frame. I encountered several instances where I needed further explanation and the professor provided me with a clear detailed response .
This wasn't a difficult class, but there was a lot of work. The work isn't difficult and is very interesting though- so it's not hard to get through. She supplements her modules with lots of extra stuff which is fun. Would definitely recommend.
Professor Groff is a wonderful teacher. I have taken several of her classes and she is a very good instructor. All the assignments are clear cut as are her instructions. Her online class is set up to move at one's own pace for the most part. You can work ahead which is a great perk!
Prof Groff is amazing. She's not difficult, but she does make you work for your grade. If you want an easy A she's not your professor. She's so helpful, too. She even helped me to look at grad schools when I talked to her after class one day. She cares about you and your progress.
This is the second semester I have taken a class from Professor Groff and for good reason, she's awesome! A much appreciated quality of hers is that she's organized, which is a must for an online class. The work is straight forward and she doesn't ask you anything that wasn't clearly in the notes.
First class I've ever taken online and it wasn't that bad. It's set up for you to work at your own pace as long as its finished before the deadlines, she sends email reminders on the Monday prior to the Friday deadline. Her testsquizzes can be hard If you only rely on skimming through the book but quizlets have a good majority of the questions
Professor Groff organized this online class seamlessly. She provides a variety of resources to instruct and they are easy to read and follow along. Videos provided were also a plus. Tests are due every other week and she is even nice enough to send reminders when modules close! You also have access to move ahead of pace. Read the required articles!
I love Prof Groff. She's amazing in class and very helpful, especially on difficult topics. She even gave us fill-in-the-blank notes for our face-to-face class, and her tests were not very difficult. However, her online classes are generally way more work, much more reading, and harder tests. I recommend her, but for face-to-face over online.
Professor Groff is such a sweet lady. Her passion for anthropology exudes throughout the class, which helps make the topics very interesting and fun to learn about. I took her online class and it was a breeze. Tests come straight out of the lectures, so if you take notes and study them then you'll pass easily. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot.
I finished this course in a week tops. Tbh, in the beginning I read the book and relied on it (for the first two day). Soon I realized something. 90% of all exam questions can be found on a quizlet if you copy and paste the question in the google search bar. If it's not found on a quizlet, I just had to look up a keyword in the index. EASY A!
A lot of the grading was pretty nuanced, which was a bit annoying, but it's not too terrible. Took online, so there was a decent bit of busy work. You need the book, certain assignments are literally right from it, just make sure you have the right edition.
This class was not terrible. Dr. Amanda Groff is quick to respond to your emails and post. In hindsight, I think if i studied more I might have been able to pull out an A instead of a B+. It is self paced so I did the whole class in roughly two weeks. I had a full load this semester and wanted to eliminate what I could. It's good elective to take!
Assigns too much reading. Multiple assignments due every week. Tests are very specific. Expects you to remember every little detail in the huge amount of reading assigned. Lighter note: class is interesting, but very time consuming and filled with busy work. Nice teacher. Lectures are vague and not helpful. Study reading.
An A is a 94.5% Think about how high of an A that is for a second. That means you have to acquire a 95% or above average on her test, quizzes, and assignments. The test and quizzes are conflicting with the book btw. Put it this way, I have an A in Biochemistry, A in Anatomy, and A in Statistics, but an A- in this class. Would not retake this class.
I took her class online and I loved it! You will do best if you read the book, which was fun because the class topics were so interesting. But if you really don't want to read you should still be able to pass by skimming or googling the questions. The class isn't demanding at all and I enjoyed learning the material .
I took this class online during the spring semester, and it was such a great decision. Prof. Groff is AMAZING. She is crystal clear in her expectations for assignments, quizzes & tests. All of her deadlines are completely fair for the work required. 4 tests (final is non-cumulative), 14 quizzes (1 per chapter), and about 14 assignments. TAKE HER!!
Make sure you turn in all of your work on time. Don't leave it for last minute! Yes, it is an online class but get things done with time to spare. Also, remember to SUBMIT your assignments as soon as you do them!
So far I've taken five classes with Groff. She's a wonderful teacher and the material is both interesting and easy (at least for me). For her online classes, as long as you read, you are pretty safe to get an A. Honestly, as long as you don't fail your exams and do well on your weekly modules, you should easily pull off a B. If not, that's on you.
The class is pretty easy and Very interesting. The lectures are online and really easy to follow and understand. There is alot of work in this class from quizes to tests to assignments to papers etc. As long as you stay on top of deadlines and do the work you will pass. Easy C or B class just time consuming
She knows a lot about her field and her personal connection to Australia makes learning about the subject matter even more fascinating. Also, she's gorgeous! However, if you are planning on taking this class as an elective outside of your major, be warned, it will probably be more work than your classes you absolutely need.
Dr. Groff is such a wonderful professor. I only received a C because I just straight up didn't do the best I could. She replies fast to email and really wants her students to pass. She's so smart and really knows her stuff! For online you have to do 2 quizzes and 2 assignments usually every 2 weeks. TAKE NOTES & you'll pass the exams. I love her!!!
I do not recommend taking this class with her, she does not give accurate feedback, you can work extremely hard for a good grade, but you will not get what you really work hard for, she is a unbelievable! I recommend taking this class with another professor who really cares about ANT. Please take interest in Anthropology, it's an amazing course!
Dr. Groff is my favorite teacher. It is clear that she knows the material well and she presents it in a dynamic, enthralling, and accessible way that kept my attention at all times during the semester, even when I'd gotten only 2 hours of sleep the night before.
I took her class online and I literally finished the course in the first week of school. Once you finish a module and the quiz/module assignment the next one opens up. You really don't have to watch the videos because the quiz questions are easy as are the module assignments. If you do the work there's no reason you shouldn't end up with an A.
You can finish the class early, which is nice. Each assigned module requires you to read 1-2 chapters in the book, read supplementary articles, watch multiple videos ranging from 5 to 50 minutes in length, and either take a quiz or do a written assignment. You need a 94 to get an A. Exams are timed. Not too difficult. I recommend.
Easy class that only takes 2 or so hours a week max. Some movies you have to watch, but all the assignments were pretty easy. Exams were notably more difficult than the "mini quizzes" so be prepared. 94 is an A, so it's kinda tight to get all the way up there. Overall, easy, low-effort class that fulfills CS foreign language elective (somehow..?).
USE YOUR TEXTBOOK. I never fully knew how to study for this class until just about the end of the semester. Every question will come from your textbook for the class as well as the mini-lectures + PDFs. Focus on the textbook, as only parts of the mini lecture are needed. Great professor, very informative, would definitely take again.
WebCourses ONLY. All grading and communication is through her teaching assistant. The ta's answer all emails and their answers rarely clarify anything. She is extremely picky when it comes to answers lacking small details such as punctuation. Capitalization for unfamiliar words. Don't even think of plagiarizing or paraphrasing. Use your own words!
Do not take this class if you don't have a photographic memory. Tests are based on the chapters in the textbook however, the test answers often do not match the textbook. If you are good at memorizing insignificant minut detail then you will be fine. Quizzes and home work do nothing for your grade and do nothing to prepare you for the tests.
I really wanted to enjoy this class going into it. But, tests were ridiculously difficult and often quoted small details from the textbook. TA graded all the papers, and I feel like I always tried my best with every paper, but consistently scored below a 90 due to small grammar mistakes. Read and reread 40+ pages a week just to get a B. Very hard
Dr. Groff is an amazing professor who is really passionate about this course. Every two weeks you have two modules due. The modules include readings, quizzes, a lecture, and an assignment. You don't have a textbook for this class, but take good notes on the lectures. They will be crucial for doing well on her exams. I recommend taking this class.
No textbook as she provides readings; 5 question quizzes and assignments due every 2 weeks after watching 2 lectures. Must take notes and at least skim readings to do well on tests. Quizzes are right out of the notes/readings and usually pretty easy. Pretty time consuming but not too difficult. Got a B+ only because I missed one assignment deadline
This is the most organized online course I've taken. The syllabus lays it all out in clear terms so there are no surprises. Once you finish an assignment the next one opens up so it's possible to get them all done at the beginning of the semester. Lots of reading and it's not super easy but the grading seems fair. More online courses like this one!
The teaching assistants are tough graders. Even if you don't plagiarize, they deduct points for writing the same material. Some of the assignments are ridiculously hard. They tell you to match the physical traits of monkeys like their teeth. Assignments are vague, and not clear.
Assignment instructions are vague, and not clear. One of the assignments asks you for the physical features of monkeys like their dentition. They ask you whether you are sure the species is bipedal. Mystery site assignment is hard too.
I currently have an A- its a pretty easy class, the answer to exam problems and quizzes are online. i'm 2 months ahead rn, its not time consuming at all. You need the book for assignments, but barely. She grades the assignments the pretty tough, but i should finish with no less then a b-
I actually have taken her online classes three times and she is amazing! Highly recommend! She gets back super quick, is very clear on what you need to do for her class, and tells you exactly what is going to be on the test. Her class never stresses me out because I know exactly what to do. Just read the book and listen to her video lectures!
I loved Professor Groff's African Archaeology and Prehistory course. Two Modules are due biweekly. Her course consists of mini lectures, chapter readings, a mini chapter quiz (5 Qs), and a module assignment. Tests directly correlate from the readings, and are not too difficult if you've read thoroughly. She is the best; a must take!
Course graded heavily on grammar & formatting, not class material. Grading is done by TAs. Questions and instructions are inconsistent with the syllabus. Majority of points lost are for minor grammatical or formatting errors. On assignments, you can answer every question correctly, cite your sources, submit on time and still receive a poor grade.
Even though my final grade was an A, I hated this class. She takes off points for grammar and I felt like my assignments were graded unfairly. I do not recommend this teacher because her method of grading is undesirable.
Took her 6-week online course, really resourceful professor, with chapter summaries of her own, flashcards, helpful links, videos, like she actually wants you to pass and its amazing. Tough grader on worded assignments with grammar but there are only a few in the whole class. Heavy on the textbook, must get it. Overall, solid professor, good class.
Easy class, textbook is only needed for the homework assignments. She offers a quiz at the end of the semester for a few extra credit points. All answers can be found on quizlet for the tests.
Online class. Super interesting, be ready to read. Shes smart/interesting. Each week is a module with lecture notes, a chapter to read, assigned reading or two, or three, quiz or test, sometimes an essay to write, and sometimes a video. All is very interesting but all Info is on tests. Tests are tough and wording can throw you off
This class isn't a hard one! I took it over the summer so it was a bit fast paced, but easy to manage. Her assignments aren't the usual quiz and essay. She makes her assignments creative and interesting. Read the textbook!!! You will use it often!!
I took this class because I have been to Mexico twice (Guanajuato and Guadalajara) and wanted to know more about its history. This was the hardest class Ive ever taken (not kidding) and Ive taken calculus and finance. The tests are near impossible to pass as they are VERY detailed even if you read the book over and over. The TAs are tough graders
Easy A! Unless you have a love for anthropology, you won't really need to study. Everything but the assignments can be found on quizlet and course hero. She also gives a lot of time to submit assignments. Def take her if you need this credit.
Dr. Groff is an amazing professor. Her online classes are very organized and the subject matter is very in depth. She cares very much about her students and is very responsive to emails. I definitely recommend taking any class she teaches, you will learn a lot!
This woman's course is disorganized many of the assignments she gives are ambiguous when she tried to be creative, and dry and boring if it was not a self-concocted mess. Her drop boxes close before they are noted too. She has no sense of humor. The only positive is that she is active in web courses for the most part
Dr. Groff knows her stuff and expects us to dedicate time and effort into her class. I should have dedicated more time to studying, but gosh, this was the hardest online class I have taken. Overall, Dr. Groff is an excellent professor but do not take her classes if you are a slacker because you will not pass her tests if you don't study.
Dr. Groff really cares for her students and has a very clear grading scale. For the written assignments the grading can be tough, but you still can get a good grade. There's one assignment that is very difficult and I got an F, but still received an A in the course, thanks to a little extra credit she gives at the end of the class.
Online class. Dr. Groff makes liberal use of eye-straining colors, ENORMOUS ALL CAPS, poor grammar, and ambiguous grading criteria. Assignments include answering questions like "why is anthropology awesome?" and being graded on both realism and originality of your imaginary mammals. I don't think I'll learn anything in this class.
If I can tell you one thing, I'd say DON'T TAKE HER CLASS! She makes her assignments hard for no reason and her TA's take points off for literally everything! I took this class as an elective but this ended up being the hardest of all my classes. No matter how well you do, you will never receive full grade on any assignment. Dropped my 4.0 GPA !!!
Her class is extremely difficult for no reason. She takes points off in her assignments all the time. She does not offer extra credit and thinks everyone is an Anthropologist. My hardest class !! Dropped my GPA... and took time off from other important classes.
She grades extremely unfairly. So many assignments each one more difficult than the other. No extra credit, You will learn a lot if you want to study something in the field but it is so so so so hard for someone whose first contact with the topics is this class. Too much for a Gen Ed
Dr. Groff's online course is very interesting. I took her course for the science credit and learned so much! She has 13 modules with different examples, definitions, (sometimes) assignments, and mini-quizzes. After three modules she has an exam. Very simple writing assignments and she provides the rubric to get as many points possible. Great class!
Professor Groff did a fantastic job laying out this course and an even better job ensuring all of the students succeeded. Textbook is a HUGE part of the course. There's a lot of assignments, but most are extremely easy and all information can be found in the book. She clearly enjoys her profession, which makes the course so much easier to endure.
I wouldn't recommend this class if you just want an easy elective or aren't interested in the subject. It is hard to find the motivation to do all of her assignments (some of which are pretty time-consuming!) when you are using it as more of an elective that you don't care about. She makes you work for the grade for the written assignments!
Most assignments super easy but a few difficult ones thrown in. Use the textbook and quizzes will be peice of cake.
This class is way too hard as an elective course. The assignments are time consuming, toughly graded, and really difficult. Some of the answer options were too close and confusing. If you are taking it because you want to be in anthropology, then take her. If you are like me, who is not good at science and just needs an elective, DO NOT TAKE IT.
I Took this online without the book. I managed to miss one assignment and get a 78%.
Extremely time consuming assignments, although she gives you 2+ weeks to complete the group of assignments due. Kind professor but unnecessarily difficult tasks!
During the pandemic this teacher barely helped. She wouldnt even open the assignments up so you had a chance. Every email has Do not email asking for help with points or grades. Ive seen so many other teachers help students out but this teacher failed me (an essential worker) by 1 point. The course was fine the professor couldve done better.
Grading criteria is more like an English professors' than an Anthropology one. If English isn't your strong suit, you'll be frustrated. Strict grader, but generally kind in her emails (along with an extra credit opportunity at the end of the course). Textbook is necessary to pass. Modules are mildly interesting with flashcards and videos attached.
Prepare to do a bit of reading! She's very nice, emails back, and she's pretty understanding. Maybe one or two assignments are difficult because they're VERY specific and a bit confusing. Exam questions can throw you off at times because answer choices are close. You might get tired of reading about monkeys and apes, but push through it!
Dr. Groff is truly wonderful, just be aware of what you are getting when you take her. Her tests are (VERY) hard and assignment grading can be tough. If you struggle with those things you may not enjoy her class. However, if you push yourself you will gain a lot of knowledge. Dr. Groff is very fair and accessible and does want to help you succeed.
Some assignments & exams are difficult but quizzes are very easy. Currently sitting at a C so if you fail one of the assignments that are worth more points it does throw you down a lot. Honestly, if you're taking this course because you think its an easier science choice, not happening. You will get bored from reading about monkeys..
It's not necessarily hard, it's just the assignments feel so... weird? It's probably more of me not liking the class than the professor herself. She is funny, and interesting. I wouldn't recommend the class if you're not in the major, or you're not particularly interested in monkeys. I'm very tired of hearing about monkeys.
No complaints about this professor. Only kinda-issue with the course is that you need to have a 94% to get an A (90-93 is an A-), which is high compared to my other courses.
She has the modules set up to unlock as you progress through the class, so you're pretty much able to work at your own pace and finish the class as quickly as you'd like. There is a LOT of reading, tests are hard and assignments are super time consuming and/or hard and confusing.
It's hard for a GEP class. The tests cannot be found online, but everything is in the book, so read the book very carefully. Assignments are harder than tests and heavy graded, too. 4 exams are worth 50%, and assignments are 35% of a whole course. Also, an A is at least 94%. Get an ebook, read it carefully, and with ctrl+F you'll be fine.
This Professor has no idea how to teach or how to listen. She is a RULE FOLLOWER and SPELLING COUNTS, one letter off from hat to hats IT'S WRONG. Exams are worth a lot! Assignments are often as challenging as tests, quizzes are simple, tests are impossible. The saving grace is the final is not comprehensive and is worth as much as every other test.
You have to read the book in order to do well in the tests and assignments. They are weighted heavily. Lots of hw. You could easily get an A if you try though, she was also a very kind teacher and responds fast to emails!
Professor is super super nice, but that's where the positives end. I'm a psych major taking this class for a Math/Science elective. Super long assignments that require looking up exact locations of fossils with exact spelling required. Pretty hard for a GE requirement. Made me also decided to switch my minor to Political Science from Anthropology.
As an online only student, options usually are limited to courses offered by Dr. Groff who teaches online every semester. While the course content is well-thought out and challenging, her demeanor is unimpressive. She is militant in her unwillingness to work with students, in spite of UCF policy. Stay away if you have any other responsibilities.
I enjoyed this class and would take this professor again. She cares about her students and makes the assignments/ learning fun. This class consisted of 4 exams, weekly quizzes, few discussions, and few additional assignments. She does not overload you with work! Also lets you work ahead, which is great since I also work fulltime.
Only good thing about this one is extra credit opportunity. She makes everything harder than it has to be all the time. Almost every assignment is timed. You have to go in the exact order she wants you to go in. Should be an easy A, but its not. Out of 7 other ANT courses through 6 professors this is my least favorite one. Will skip on her now.
She is a nice person, but her reading load was absolutely impossible. Her tests in this class are from her LECTURES, TEXTBOOK, and an ARTICLE. You HAVE to read/take DETAILED notes because she finds the most obscure/specific questions from the reading for exams. Took me a week to take detailed notes in ONE article for ONE module. Still failed.
I spent the most time doing work for this class compared to my other 3.. Her tests were kinda hard and you had to answer 5 response questions but only would get credit for 2 random ones. Her assignments were so specific and annoying I ended up getting confused and not doing that great. She's too picky, I'd suggest finding a different professor.
Yes, the class is a bit heavy, but that's Anthropology. Don't take this class with anyone if you aren't prepared for the work. But with Amanda, it was a breeze. She explains everything in detail, but relies on the textbook a bunch. It isn't just about her job to her, she genuinely wants her students to learn and succeed.
Love Dr. G! This course had quite a bit of reading but the course and content were well organized making it easy to follow along. New module each week that usually requires 50ish pages of reading, some articles, a quiz, and/or assignment. Gives great feedback and TAs were very helpful. Learned something new just a few pages into the first reading!
In a world of professors who keep their online students trapped in glacially unlocking modules for some godawful mysterious reason, Dr. Amanda Groff is a saint who opened the entire class from the start and allowed us to finish the course at our own individual paces. This is unspeakably rare and refreshing. Atop that, you learn a lot with her.
There's chapter quizzes (only 5 questions) and activities every other week. Two chapters are due at a time. So, every other Friday 4 assignments are due. If you use your resources, they're easy and you have 2 weeks to do them. There's an exam like once a month, 4 total, unproctored and online. Textbook found online for free. Overall, pretty easy.
I enjoyed the material in the class however it's somewhat of a heavy load. LOTS of reading and test are VERY technical so you will need to take very detailed notes. She gives a few options for extra credit but don't expect that to raise your grade substantially. You will need to put in the work to get an A or B. Use the study guides & modules
I have to say, this was my only option to fulfill my GEP requirement and I read these reviews and thought it would be alright. This class is a LOT of work with questions that are made with the intent to be deceitful. Out of all my classes, 90% of my time is spent doing work for this one. Do not recommend it if you don't have to take it.
GEP class. Dr. Groff's class was clearly organized. She responds quickly to email, is helpful. She gives 2 weeks to work on modules & you can move ahead (I just finished the class!).Some content was difficult, but she provides lots of study aids (videos). Study before exams! I'm not an anthropology major, but would take a class with her again.
I wont be taking her again. Her instructions are not that straightforward and her questions on the exam are all over the place and everything has a time limit even her 5 question quizzes. No matter how much you study or take notes her questions will be on something that has no importance. Unless you have photographic memory good luck.
I honestly dont enjoy anthropology, but as far as the teacher goes, she's not bad she gives all the textbook readings to you, but if you want to pass the course you have to watch all the videos (some can be pretty long) and read the textbook PDFs. overall class wasn't hard just time consuming if you work full time.
There was a new textbook used this semester and it was a better option! It was free and all of the answers to the exams can be found in the chapters. Most of the assignments are timed, but doable. I had 4 classes while working 40 hours and still managed an A-. The course is also work at your own pace, which is a plus.
Dr. Amanda is a great professor, she interacts with the class and clearly loves her TA's and helping students. Sometimes her assignments can be difficult, i feel as if the online textbook did not match up or was worded differently than the assignment question/exam/quizzes. The exams a decent, SOMETIMES she curves the grade. But still great class!
This course is an information overload. The weekly chapter readings were exhaustive, containing varying degrees of anthro concentrations. At least one assignment and one quiz due each week, besides the chapter reading, videos, etc. Nearly killed myself for that A- but she cares and is a fair grader. Most exams were curved with minimal points added
I love this professor, she is so nice and caring. This class was a lot of work for a summer class, but the information is very engaging and fun. I would recommend taking this class a normal semester. It consisted of 3 exams, quizzes, assignments, and no extra credit. I really enjoyed this class!
Dr. G. is an amazing professor, and will definitely take her again. The subject matter was rather foreign to me as I have never had a class on genetics or evolution before, but she made it engaging, interesting and FUN. She is definitely a credit to her department and UCF as a whole.
As a professor, she is the Bee's knees! Caring, fair and knowledgeable, she is by far one of the best professors I have had in my academic career. Will definitely take her again.
This professor is unpleasant and rude towards us for no reason. I assume she had a less than ideal time in college herself so she decides to take it out on her students. She sends us multiple emails about how simply just being in a Groupme could lead to you getting reported & suffering consequences. Sorry that some of us like to talk to our peers.
Prof G is nice, honestly even her warning about groupme was nice but a lot of the quizzes and assignments are 5 questions or less so if you get even one wrong you're getting a low B. Quiz questions are intense for being closed-notes and monitored on canvas for any movement off the page. She does curve sometimes but be prepared to do a lot for an A
Dr. Groff is one of UCF's best professors. Her video lectures are super fun to watch. There is a quiz and assignment for each module. You can do the course entirely at your own pace as long as you complete the modules by their deadlines. She answers questions really quickly for such a big class. I also took her HP class and I loved it.
She is extremely nice. We got hit with 2 hurricanes and she pushed due dates back more than she had to. She also move due dates based on holidays whether the university was closed or not. The assignments are annoying because I don't really like anthropology and I think her TA's are picky but they don't count for much so I just BS through them
GEP course was harder than Upper-Level courses. I worked hard for my A! So much information to take in and it's too hard to know what info may be on the exams. Not crazy hard, but it's a lot! The professor on the other hand is amazing. She is helpful, kind, supportive, cares about her students, and responds quickly. Be ready to read and study.
i had her for ant3017 and she was so kind! her class was organized well, she was responsive to canvas messages, and her criteria for assignments were clear! i would 100% would take her again!
Professor Groff made her course really straight forward. Hw and quizzes fast, easy, and sparse so very manageable. The book is the only thing you need to study, all answers are in there.
Not sure why she has such high reviews. Sure she's witty but who cares. No lectures, read the book and hope you retained the two random terms per chapter and useless information she wants you to know. Quizzes designed to confuse you. No leniency despite two hurricanes this semester. Multiple emails threatening anyone who participated in GroupMe's.
I have taken Prof Groff 3 times. All three times were amazing! Recently it was for the Anthropology of Harry Potter- Take that if you can!! She provides great lectures and as long as you listen and take notes, you will do great! I would pause and write down everything on her slides and then add my own notes as she went along. It really helped!
The textbook was wordy and could put you to sleep. The professor did not make any efforts to make the content easier to understand or to help prepare us for quizzes. Never knew what to expect on quizzes. I tried taking notes from the reading but that would end up in pages and pages of notes and it would take hours longer than just reading.
Prof. Groff is an exceptional teacher. Her online classes are well organized and her expectations of you are made super clear. Definitely recommend taking her for Human Species, especially if you plan on taking Human Biological Diversity with Lana Williams. It will prepare you well for the difficulty increase going from 2000 to a 4000 level course.
Dr. Groff is very organized with her class, if you want to succeed in this class, I recommend you literally read every single chapter and you won't have problems with the mini quizzes she gives. Read and highlight all you consider is important that helped me pass. You'll be fine if you read and take notes on the videos of the chapters she gives you
Like last semester, Dr. Groff's course was spectacular! Her lectures were informative and entertaining. The assignments, while tedious, weren't too difficult. The exams and quizzes were pretty easy. Best of all, the readings were completely free!
Work at your own pace type of class, with module due dates every 2 weeks. No discussion boards or papers, textbook chapters are in each module so you don't need to purchase one. She also provides PowerPoint and lecture videos, and plenty of additional resources to help you understand the material. Assignments and quizzes were generally easy
class is super simple and organized. You have 2 weeks to complete two of the modules which are very simple and quick. All answers for the assignments are in the book and she provides powerpoint lectures that cover the reading material as well, which is super helpful.
I love Dr. Groff! She has amazing lectures and is very caring. I would definitely take her again and highly recommend
Professor Groff cares about her students and is always available if any assistance is needed. The class allowed students to work at their own pace. All the information and study material you'll need is located in the modules. There are a lot of quizzes and each quiz consists of 5 questions so make sure to know your material!
don't take her unless anthropology is your thing!! the textbook is VERY difficult and boring to follow. the assignments and grading are weird. she is a tough grader and flagged hundreds of people for plagiarism this last semester over a very easy mistake because of the difficult nature of the text. avoiding her like the plague
This is the second time I've taken Dr. Groff. I took her in 2023 for ANT 2511. She responded quickly to all my emails and questions. It was a interesting class and I plan to take her again in the Fall and in Spring for her Harry Potter class. Her online class structure is awesome, even if I am not 100% interested in the subject, I will take her..
She's super nice and encouraging. You have to watch every lecture and write down every single thing she says and there's a lot of reading. I feel like there were a lot of trick questions on exams honestly and super specific things you don't think will be important from the textbook. Interesting material though.
Professor Groff's class is organized, but the textbook can be a slog. Quizzes can catch you off guard, so make sure to read thoroughly and take good notes. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for quick study prep. Overall, it's a straightforward class if you're diligent.
Class was fully online, the video lectures were short but packed full of great information. Tests and assignments due every other week basically, however the assignments took a couple hours to do each time so I would recommend working on them in advance. She was basically always available to answer questions or emails regardless of day or time.
Took this class just cause I need more credits but it was pretty interesting. Professor is pretty nice and responds fairly quickly to emails. Provides extra credit, and a few assignments were due every other week. Tests aren't proctored but overall good professor and would take another class with her!
Professor Groff is one that truly enjoys what she teaches and that is conveyed even through her online material. She challenges you and her class did require some devoted time to actually learn the chapters. I really enjoyed her class and I would recommend taking her courses if you ever have the chance!
she literally erased all the lectures so that you only study for the final exam in just 24 hours!! even though the exam is due on Sunday, you had to study the lectures only on Tuesday. Took this class because it was supposed to be fun and it turned into a nightmare, avoid this class at all costs! dont be fooled by the funn harry potter theme
Dr. Groff is a great professor with lots of knowledge and care about what she does. I thoroughly enjoyed her class. She does expect students to watch the lectures and pay attention to the content because her quizzes are based on what she says in those lectures. She responds very quickly and answers any questions.
I've taken her in the past & somehow that class was way better than this one. She's super nice but I don't like her teaching style. Lectures are
I've taken her in the past & somehow that class was way better than this one. She's super nice but I don't like her teaching style. Lectures are ~8 mins and abt a super niche part of 1 culture so most info comes from a boring textbook. If u like pottery take this, but if not u might find it to be a drag. Sadly I don't think I learned much
This professor was the least caring that i've ever met. She wouldn't fix errors that her own system made, effecting my grade and making me have a lower grade than i actually deserved. Run away from this professor, if you want fair grading, this isn't for you.
AMAZING CLASS if you like harry potter. Lecutures are short and highly interesting. Assignments have a very strict rule about complete sentences but follow that and you'll be fine. Quizzes are mostly based on reading but again, they are intersting. 3 tests throughout with a non cumulative exam. Highly recommend taking her in this class.
