One of the best math teacher you will encounter. Easy to understand and clearly there for the student best interest. I would highly recommend, especially if math is not your forte.

I dropped math 212 two times before finally gaining the courage to try again. I am so glad that I signed up for Professor Lien's class. She really cares and is passionate about what she teaches. I was really intimidated by maths but now i think i am doing great. she makes lecture notes for you to print which is SO helpful. be sure to go to class

Professor lien is one of the best math teachers I have ever encountered. Her teaching style is different than others and I wasn't sure how I would like it on the first day but stick with it!!! The organization of her lecture notes really helped me pass the exams because I could always find everything. She's young and really caring of her students

I took a break from math classes for 3 years and was anxious and nervous about taking it again to get my degree. professor lien took away my fear of math and presented the material in a way that i could actually grasp it. she really cares about her students and you can see it in the way she teaches. dont doubt her knowledge just cuz shes young!!!

This professor made new algebraic principles very clear. I could tell she used to teach young children right off the bat, and her teaching style really works. She does all lecture problems with the class, using the projector. She makes it super easy to learn, is willing and ready to answer questions, and wants you to succeed.

Hands down the best math instructor I've ever had. The way she runs her class and the way she gives assignments is fantastic (had to spend $90 on MyMathLab but still worth it). Great teacher, makes math seem really easy, offers extra credit, helps solve problems, and even lets you bring note cards on the exams. Would recommend.

Love professor lien! Lectures are fun and she's always very organized and prepared. The final was hard for me but the average score of the class was not bad. I didn't understand induction proofs and that messed me up. Make sure you study everything in lecture notes and ask her questions. She's really friendly and willing to help if you need it.

This is the only math teacher that made math easy to understand for me. if you are taking her class for the first time you'll be pleasantly surprised to see how young she is. she really knows the material inside and out and wants to make sure you do too. just try not to get too distracted in class because shes not bad to look at ;)

Her preprinted note taking method is brilliant. Her lectures make it very easy to understand. Hwk and practice are helpfulessential. There are older professors at DA that really should take a page from Lien's book. Effective teacher that cares about her students. My confidence in math has doubled bcz of this class.

Would take her again in a heartbeat if I could. Prof Lien is the utmost nicest professor I've ever had. Need help on a hw problem? Email her, and she'll guide you to the answer. We have 3 easy midterms, WebAssign hw (she drops the lowest 10%), and a few weekly written hw. I respect her so much because she cares and listens to students' feedback!

The class structure is set up so that you succeed. She really does care about how well you're doing. There's three exams and a final. There's weekly online homework and also written homework that's due every now and then. She drops 10% of the total points of the online homework at the end of the quarter. You don't need the textbook from Math 4142.

She not require you buy the book. She is really help. just need to follow her work and step. You can learn from class and do the homework. Her exam is all from class note and practice exam. The only one reason I don't like is she use webassign.(webassign answers sometime are really ugly, and picky). I will take her other class again if I can!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I didn't mind going to class at all. Amanda is so sweet and young and truly wants you to succeed. Her work is incredibly straightforward and easy. Sure, there are 1 or 2 unexpected problems on the midterm but overall it is very easy. I love how she helps you on hw through EMAIL! Oh, and textbook not necessary!

Just a heads up, she is unexpectedly very young and pretty. My previous professor was so hard that I failed, so when I retook it with her, she made math seem SO EASY! No textbook needed because she sends you lecture notes that you print and take notes on. I really miss having her!!! One of the easiest A's I've had at De Anza.

I loved coming to class because one, she is nice to look at and two, her lectures are always on point. She doesn't go off topic or waste time with anything. It's my second time taking stats. I'm not sure why my last teacher didn't just explain things the way prof lien does. She makes everything clear ans is willing to help if you ask. We just had a midterm today. Multiple choice is tricky but if you do the homework, the free response is straight forward.

Ms. Lien is the best teacher I have had so far at De Anza. She made stats extremely easy. If you attend class and take all the notes, this class will be very straight forward and easy. You will need a graphing calculator and WebAssign is like $30. The homework is easy if you have all the notes and tests are easy with cheat sheet.

seriously, do not miss any class! she takes paper attendance (which i think are fun because she asks a random question on each day) but i think it is to help us because lectures are essential to passing exams. She is the absolute best! Very friendly, knowledgeable, and young! Never really have to use the textbook because her notes are very clear (you have to print them out and bring them to class). Explains everything clearly and is always willing to help during class and in office hours. Tests are based off of the notes.

I had to drop from the class towards the end due to health problems but I really learned alot from prof Lien. She finds a way to make an intimidating subject like math into something attainable for all of the students which i found to be inspiring. her lecture style is incredible and organized so if u go to all class and listen u will be good.

I don't mind that it's an 830am class everyday. She comes in with a good attitude and teaches very clear. This is the first time I feel comfortable asking questions in class without being afraid. I really respect her and how she respects all of us by making sure we get our voice heard

I cant't even express how glad I am that I took math 43 with her. She's so so sweet and is even willing to help with homework through email. I wish I can take her for the rest of my math career. Seriously, take this class! Super clear lectures, her quizzes and tests make sense with what she's teaching. Homework is on WebAssign so you get 5 tries for each problem! Math 10 was quite complicated for me at first, but she made it simple and easy to follow. Very organized notes. Plus, she's always there to help whenever you ask. Highly recommended. You will not regret taking this class.

Amanda is fantastic. The lecture notes are clear. The exams are an easy A if you make a cheatsheet. She tells us exactly what we need to know. She is so nice and helpful. She cares about if we understand the material and also brightens our day by writing cute questions on the roll sheet. She is NOT arrogant at all. I ended up with a 98%.

I'm sure those who gave bad rates did not try hard enough to deserve a good grade. I sucked at math, but I tried to study hard and went to the tutoring center several times a weeks. organized notes, just need to fill in and reviews. Not too much HW, but most of your grade depends on three midterms and the final.

Amanda is super organized, helpful and clear in her lectures. I was able to learn the reason behind the formulas with her; great way to learn and not just memorize and apply formulas like a robot. I took Math 10 last quarter and thought Professor Lien was amazing. She makes the notes for you, and you just have to print them from online. The quizzes are open notes and her midterms are based from the notes. Also, she responds to emails whenever you have questions regarding homework. Trust me on this, take her and you won't regret it.

Ms. Lien is one of the most organized, kind and intelligent teachers I've ever had at De Anza. As long as you are on top of printing out notes, WebAssign, practice tests and use the notecard you get for midterms to the fullest extent- you're set up for success. She will accommodate requests for meetings if you give advanced notice.

Grading is clear and generous, she doesn't take all point off if she knows that you understand the material, but just make a little mistake. I have taken Amanda for math 114, Math 41, and I am now in her Math 42 class. She is an AMAZING teacher. Her notes are extremely clear and she is always willing to answer any questions. Her exams are hard and showing up to class is mandatory but if you put a lot of effort you will do well. I recommend taking her if you actually want to learn!

Amanda Lien is an amazing professor! People who give her bad reviews probably expect to get an A in her class without trying. You have to be on top of the work but as long as you do the HW, attend class and take notes you will do fine. Open note quizzes, note card for midterms and page of notes for the final. TAKE HER CLASS SHE IS AMAZING!

Prof Lien makes it so that you will pass (notes on quizzes, notecard on midterms, full page cheat sheet on the final, extra credit, drops your lowest quiz score, drops lowest homework score, replace lowest score w/ highest, etc). She makes it very easy for you to pass, but not without some obstacles. Although her tests are hard, she's very caring

She cares a lot about her students success. She goes over the material in such a elaborate way it is hard to not understand. Before every quiz, hw assignment, midterm and final she goes over the material until the entire class gets it. She has office hours for students who need extra help. She allows cheat sheets during tests which are helpful.

Took Lien despite her low rating and I have not one regret. She has such an organized and clear teaching method that it's hard to NOT understand it. Her lectures are clear, she has you print out lecture notes which she goes over step by step. Her exams aren't hard if you understand the material. I wish I had her for 43, I would 10/10 recommend her!

I took her class in my Fall quarter of 2016 and I am not the best when it comes to math. But once I took her class I understood almost everything in the class. She is so helpful all the time. As long as you pay attention in class, you will pass the class. If you try, its literally impossible not to get an A or a B in the class.

Amanda is a very organized and caring professor who understands her students, and makes sure that you have all the resources needed to get an A in her class. She makes students print out daily lecture notes to fill in which is a plus for me but she will also allow you to take her notes home to copy. Her class helped me to become more organized.

Wow! Amanda Lien is a great teacher! I am a visual learner and the way she teaches is clear and makes you really understand the material. I loved her teaching style which might not be for everyone. She uses printed lecture notes that have all of the important stuff on there and she spends class time going over the problems in full details on there. it really helped me to have structure and organization. also lets you use these notes on quizzes which helped me stay focused.

But keep in mind that math isnt a really easy course so you need to put some effort into it. Take her with no doubt if you would like to learn math. I would definitely recommend Amanda. She makes sure that you understand the material by offering tons of notes and extra credit. Ask questions in class and she will be happy to answer them. She is the best teacher I have had! Her lectures are perfectly clear and she doesn't do trick questions on tests and quizzes. As long as you do the homework you should be fine in that class. Her final is a little harder then the rest of the tests, but she allows you to have a full 8 by 11 cheat sheet

Amanda is a great teacher! She is so helpful and is very clear at explaining things. You have a quiz at the end of every week (open notes) and you can also use a cheat sheet for midterms/final. Homework is done online. If you have a chance to take her, do so! You wont regret it.

Amanda offered lecture notes to print out and bring to class. They were very helpful and easy to follow along. Quiz given each Friday and were open notes. For exams, we were allowed an index card. The problems were similar to the online homework and in-class examples. However, the final was very difficult and not similar to exams/class work.

No idea what the negative reviews were about but I enjoyed Amanda's class. Straight forward lecture and a decent amount of homework. She is extremely caring towards students struggling to learn the material. Midterms were moderate difficulty, Final was a bit easier. If you're not going to work for a good grade, don't bother taking her.

Nothing negative to say. I took Amanda for 5 quarters. Lectures were organized, hw is online due 3-5 days after assigned & there is a quiz once a week. Lets you use notes during quiz. Allows students to have note cards during midterms & final with math formulas which is so helpful! Extra credit at the end of quarter. She's amazing, 100% recommend.

She is AMAZING. She has 3 midterms and 1 final. She'll drop the lowest midterm if u do well in your final.

Overall, she's a good teacher. You still have to study even though many people said that she's easy. Study from her homework and her lecture notes, but be careful with the final midterm because it is quite difficult because it contain all of the chapters.

Hands down best professor ever. Super caring. Her lectures are easy to follow. The quizes reflect hw problems and the exams reflects the study guide she gives. There are no surprises. She emails daily to let you know if hw is due or if you need to print something out. This is a must take professor. Do yourself a HUGE favor and add her class.

Professor Amanda is definitely one of the better professors when it comes to math. Her in-class lectures could be a bit boring but if you pay attention, everything that you learn in class is on the quiz/test. She requires you to complete homework on WebAssign. There are 7quizzes, 3 midterms, and she also does a binder check, and a final.

She is a good teacher just my personal downside is I have to print out 150 pages for mandatory notes, but I pay 15 cents per print at DeAnza. So hidden costs came out to about 25 bucks and 150 for the graphing calculator. Need 94% for an A while some teachers only need 90%. Easier class but like you see , very VERY hard final. So 8.2/10 difficulty

I really enjoyed taking her class. Her lectures are easy to understand and her notes are nice and clear. Quizzes and exams should be easy if you review your notes and do the study guide. Took her for Math 42, Math 43, and Math 1A. That should tell you enough. Good math professors at De Anza are rare. Her tests and quizzes are extremely reasonable. Professor Lien's lectures were very clear. She replies emails and WebAssign questions very fast too. The only thing is she requires you to print out her worksheets which is A LOT (if you own an iPad it's perfect) and she requires you to buy WebAssign(I got it free due to covid-19). other than that, she is amazing!

I love Amanda! She made calculus seem easy to master! Her lectures are straight to the point, and as long as you pay attention, do the homework, you'll be able to take her quizzes/tests and pass. She is extremely clear in what she expects, class was ASYNCHRONOUS. Every week there are 2 lectures posted, about 1.5hrs in total, and they directly correspond to your HW/quizzes on WEB ASSIGN. TAKE HER IF POSSIBLE!

She is one of the best professors at De Anza! She gives you weekly and mid-weekly emails to remind you of upcoming assignments. Her class is also completely asynchronous and 100% online. Her homework is tougher than her quizzes, but her video lectures are super informative and she's very thorough. I'll definitely take her again.

This class was fully online and she makes learning calculus really easy and efficient. She provides notes that are very clear, quizzes and webassign homework every week. If you watch her videos, take the notes and prepare for midterms/quizzes, you could easily pass this class. And she's a very nice person who is very clear with her grading policy.

Professor Lien's lectures were always very detailed and clear. Each week, there were around 10-20 questions of homework due and one quiz based on the week's lecture. There were 3 tests and one final. The test and quizzes weren't bad at all as long as you did the homework, and were often easier than the homework.

THE BEST MATH TEACHER in DA ever. If you have a chance to take her, do your best to get her class. Her lectures are amazing and pretty informative. There are 8 quizzes (lowest one will be dropped,) 3 midterms, and a final (your lowest midterm will be replaced by your final scores if higher.) ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS "TAKE HER CLASS!!!"

Professor Lien is amazing! Great pre-recorded lectures that break down the material super well, holds plenty of office hours and is accessible and ready to help out when you need it. On exams, even if you get the problem wrong, you can get points for correct work/thought process. Trust me, she makes calculus fun and so much easier!

Amanda's lectures are very good and she makes things very easy to understand. She explains all of the math problems very well and gives instructions on which calculator functions to use for the different chapters. She is always available via email as well and has office hours on certain days.

I took her for CALC1A and MATH10, both classes I had a great experience. Her lectures are excellent and understandable. Trust me, she is one of the best choices you will have in any math class.

Amanda is such a great and nice teacher. Her lecture is clear and concise to understand. You don't need a textbook because she will give you all the detailed and necessary documents. She also gives extra credits to improve your grade if it is low. You will not regret if take her class.

Super sweet STEM professor! She attaches completed notes, but I recommend watching the lectures because sometimes she verbally explains things that don't get written down and there'll be a disconnect if you use the notes without watching the videos. Quizzes and midterms are super similar to the problems she has in her lectures, so it's not hard.

LOVE HER! lectures are sometimes long but the examples are soo good. uses real life examples + gives and explains all formulas. homework is sometimes tricky but test and quizzes are exactly the same as lectures. so sweet and kind teacher. provides lots of help when u ask. overall 11/10 would take again omg. tip: learn the formulas.

She cares for her students' success. Amazing lectures with color coded lecture notes, relates the course with real life examples (makes the course intriguing), and gives and explains all the formulas (i.e., to know when to use which formula). Easy HW; quizzes, midterms, final based off of the HW, and funny at times. One of best professors ever!

The professor really cares about the students. You will feel no pressure to learn from her even you are not good at maths. The lectures are very detailed, and the in-person meetings are also effective to help understand those concepts. It lays a solid foundation for further learning calculus. This course is so rewarding that I highly recommend.

My time with Ms. Lien was a roller coaster for sure. She is rather test heavy with 3 midterms and one final to go in with weekly quizzes and about 2 sets of weekly homeworks. If one doesn't pay attention in her class, it is tough to go through so lots of attention and focus required. So, more academic centred than most and not the easiest grader.

Amanda was great! The class was completely asynchronous so it's pretty lecture heavy, but as long as you follow the lectures and take notes it's super easy. All quizzes and finals were multiple choice! I would take her again If I could, it was an easy class overall.

i'm new to statistics and learning it was very tricky to figure out but overall the class wasn't that bad just a quiz and just 1 or 2 homework assignments depends on the week and she also has discussions each week like homework help in case if your stuck on a problem or can't figure the questions on the homework.

super easy class, everything was online. im super bad at math but this class was a breeze. if you dont get an A it's your fault. 13 homework assignments on a website you have to pay for, quizzes each week and 3 midterms. 25 question final. SO EASY pls take this class!!!!!!

Prof. Lien is one of the best math instructors at De Anza. Her lectures are clear and engaging, and she provides great support through weekly quizzes, detailed feedback, and accessible office hours. I found Unstuck AI really helpful for exam prep alongside the course materials.

I already transferred to UCB but I keep thinking about how this was my favorite class in cc because of prof lien. I'm taking another stat class now and wish I could learn from her instead because she made learning so simple and fun. Even though I took her class async, I always looked forward to watching her lectures.

I am awful at math and professor Lien really dumbs it down for people like me. She is amazing. Really nice and super helpful. If you have learning disabilities and are scared to take math, TAKE HER CLASS!!

Im not too sure why her rating is 4.2 it should be way higher. She is an amazing teacher and makes lessons soooo straight forward.

She is an amazing professor, she has maybe 1-3 lecture videos to help a week. Completely asynchronous, she cares a lot for you if you reach out. Her class is not difficult at all, and very easy to get an A in. All her tests and midterms are multiple choice, and on homework she gives 5 retakes per answer. Easy statistics class for STEM major.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Her lectures are super detailed and she includes so much optional practice that really helped with exams. Has discussions available for questions and her office hours are incredibly useful. Highly highly recommend her if you need to take math 10! Also just very likeable and cares about her students.

~3 lectures a week with 1-2 hw assignments and weekly 10pt quiz or a midterm. Lowest hw and quiz get dropped and final can replace a low midterm + up to 5pts extra credit. Overall she's super nice and easy to talk to, lectures can be long but she does her best to keep it engaging, highly recommend taking her class.

Amanda Lien is a very kind and caring professor. Even from an online standpoint, it's clear that she cares about her students. Always active on discussion pages, and is easy to understand. But these lectures are 3 a week, 40 minutes each. And the homework only allows you three tries, which is annoying when you don't understand the concepts yet.

SWEETEST PROF EVER. I love her so much and would definitely recommend taking her class. Online lectures are clear, and she provides notes to take along with her (very helpful imo).

She is amazing

Someone protect her at all costs because she is so so sweet. She is very organized with her modules and she tries her best to help her students. Homework was assigned consistently including quizzes every 1-2 weeks. You get one entire hour to answer 10 questions for the quizzes. Time limit for exams are so manageable. Tests are all MCQ.

Wow I am so lucky I got a seat in this class. I always look forward to coming to math class everyday because her lectures are amazing. Prof Lien is the best math prof at De Anza no doubt and I can see why the students respect her so much. She actually cares about your success and explains so well. Be good to her!!!! I hated math.. but Professor Lien made it super easy to understand all the concepts. She is the sweetest professor and just wants everyone to succeed!! If you are planning to take CALC 1A, I highly recommend taking her because you won't regret it.
