She's a fast teacher but she's very easy and she always makes time to be available for her students to help them when her students need them. Very sweet and patient with students!
Mrs Matthews treats her 105 students like they are 5 years old. Yeah, we are in the worst math class available but that's because we suck at math, don't talk to us like kids just because we are bad at math. I do not suggest anyone take her unless they don't mind being degraded.
Ms.Matthews is a sweet and helpful professor. I don't care what others students say, but she is willing to help her student. And yes she talks to us let we're in elementary only because she works with them after she teaches her morning classes.
She easy - and helpful - but she teached REALLY SLOW And she goes over things over and over - which is good in a sense but it put me to sleep...but i passed math!
Professor Matthews is a wonderful teacher. I took her for both 105 and 106. She is very clear and if you do not understand she is willing to go over it without getting angry. She does throw quizzes in every now and then. She goes over the test review sheets. The math lab sucks, not her. Awesome teacher! She loves what she does/ door alwaysopen
She was an awesome professor! She is so helpful and doesn't keep going unless everyone understands the topic. She is willing at anytime to help her students. I took her for 105 and 106 and did very well in both. I highly recommend her.
Be prepared to write fast and listen at the same time. She always keeps you for a few minutes after the class is over.
I found this professor very confusing. I could hardly keep up with what she wrote, let alone comprehend what she said. And she is serious about no late work. Even if you have the swine flu.
Avoid her! She is very confusing in her teaching. She claims she is there to help you but when I went for help she just confused me even more. Doesnt care about absenses, even for emergency surgery..tests are HARD and no real extra credit given.
She is nice, but can be confusing at times. Just do the my math lab assignments and be prepared for hard tests.Although she drops the lowest test which is really cool. The tests are half multiple choice, half free response.Beware, free response are work 10-15 points a piece. And there are around 5-6 per test. I say take her.
Hardest exam i have ever taken in my entire life.Pass on this one if you can.
For anyone who struggles with math, I would highly suggest you take a class with this professor. She teaches the class like she is speaking to 2nd graders and simplifies everything. only requires 1-2 homework problems each night and is very lenient on grading. Offers study sessions before each test, and is always willing to help. TAKE HER CLASS!
pretty good teacher. nice lady, very helpful. although does go through the material tooo fast!
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Very clear with the notes and is willing to help with anything you don't understand, but make sure you do the homework-- she gives you the week to complete it. I'm a terrible Math student and did just fine in this class.
I would definitely suggest this professor. She goes over everything a lot in class, and the homework she assigns lends itself to do overs and trying again. Her tests are not easy, but she puts more emphasis on process than having the right answer, so you can get points just for trying really hard and setting up the steps. Definitely take!
Professor Matthews is helpful, consistent, and easy to understand. She works fast to allow students as much exposure to problems as possible. She gives 7-10 days for homework and her tests while challenging are not as hard as some would have you believe. Study and doing the reading along with working problems on your own will allow you to do well.
Not a good teacher, i am bad at math and having her did not help at all. She would never answer questions in class because we didn't have enough time and then held us over anyways. Tests were very hard had to study for hours just to pass the final. Dont take!
She is okay. She is nice and wants to help but can be very confusing. Moves to fast for me during class and almost always holds you over. Before tests i basically just have to go through the book and teach myself. The tests can be very HARD. It's not the end of the world if you get her but I would try to get someone else
Mrs Matthews means well, she is a nice person, but will talk to you like you are a young child. Her tests are difficult because the problems she goes over in class are much easier than the ones she puts on the tests. She goes very fast and expects you to learn a large amount in a short time. I lived in the math lab to even pass her.Not recommended.
Let's face it, Calculus is a hard class despite who's teaching it. I recommend Mathews because she breaks things down kindergarten style, but she's fast paced. She uses every second of class, allows students to stay after to finish tests, and she awards major partial credit. However, you're going to have to seriously EARN an A in this class.
Calc Lab is not going to be fun with any teacher, but Matthews makes it a little more enjoyable. She grades tough, but if you pay attention and try on the labs, you will do fine because she is great at explaining what is expected and how to do it. Double checking your work is critical because details are extremely important, but overall not bad.
I took Dr. Matthews for my Calc 1 lab, and she made if very clear and easy to understand. Definitely take your lab from her if you can.
Good teacher. Give outlines for notes. Teaches all 50 minutes though. Be prepared for that. 4 tests, a few quizzes and a final. Drops lowest test grade. Really good teacher.
Gives you all of the equations you need at the beginning of chapters. Goes very fast so be alert. She'll teach all 50 minutes and complain if you get up a minute early. She doesn't provide much help with what will be on the tests so you'll have to prepare yourself with mymathlab.
She teaches like you are a fourth grade class. But oh well. Do the practice tests online and the tests will be a piece of cake. Go to the Math plaza for 2 hours a week.. she takes off your grade if you dont. Moves very fast, beware!
She goes through all the material very thoroughly and give several examples. Gives you notes to print off and bring to class, and tell you whats going to be on quizzes. Very nice lady! Does move a little fast, but TA's and your homework (which is super easy) helps you understand it all.
This class was exceptionally easy. Mrs. Matthews thoroughly teaches all of the materials. The book is not needed, but the code for MyMathLab is required. We did alot of our homework through MyMathLab. Go to class and take notes, you'll do fine! I also love how you can see how much Mrs. Matthews loves teaching. Sweet lady.
Matthews is a great algebra teacher! She explains the lessons very well & is always willing to help. Gives a new set of notes every day and teaches until the absolute last min in class but she makes understanding really easy. Tests are fairly easy if you do all of the homework & exam reviews. Do all the work & go to class & an A is not hard to get.
This class was odd because it was in an auditorium with 100 other students. It is difficult taking a math class this way. Overall with the circumstances she did well relaying the material and always made us aware of when test and quizzes were as long as when HW was due. All the HW is online and there is a 2hr requirement for the math lab every week
Did not enjoy this professor at all. There were too many people in the class, which made it hard to ask questions or receive individual help. She moves quickly and you have to keep up. She's VERY picky with grading. Doesn't give a lot of partial credit (if any), but she is clear when tests, quizzes, and homework's are due. Only B i've ever had
Teacher tried to help when asked for help. I thought class as difficult as she was hard to understand. Teaches the entire class. Be prepared it is fast an furious. Ended up taking class again which was partly my fault because I quit caring. Go to class you will miss a lot.
No. Just NO. She isn't understanding at all, treats you like 4 year olds, rude, and just NO. I like Algebra, but she ruins it.
She is helpful if you ask on her time, otherwise you're out of luck. She often goes over lecture time and if you try to pack up one minute before class is over she will go combat-mode. Participation and attendance both are extremely important as well as lab attendance. She teaches way too fast to keep up with and makes tests harder than lectures.
Fast-paced class, she expects your attention and silence during class. She may or may not have time during class to answer questions; go to her office. Participation and attendance are mandatory as is homework. Go to class. Do homework (I use it to study) and if there's an optional practice test, do it (About 2-3x's). You will do well.
Have to go to class and answer in-cass questions on a remote "clicker". Weekly homework online. Have to spend an extra 1 hour sitting in a computer lab a week for credit. Also have a 50 minute "recitation" or smaller class each week. Will never use the textbook. She occasionally gets pissed off at us for leaving early, but not a bad teacher.
REally good with explaining thikngs.
Be prepared to stay the entire class if you go. She freaks out if you try to leave early or even pack up your things 1-2 min. early. There is a lot of homework in this class so you'll have to keep up or you'll get behind. She drops one test grade, some hw & quizzes. Overall, I probably wouldn't take her again for future math courses I need.
Do NOT take her, she teaches extremely to fast. class is mandatory takes off points after three absences as if you don't have call four times a week. shes a tough grader. Good luck, DO NOT take her! you must buy the online code also
You can't leave a minute early. Lectures are mandatory and so is Recitation plus a 1 hour lab requirement each week. 4 exams and a mandatory final. Quizzes are taken in your recitation class. Overall not a hard class, just a hard teacher.
I personally hated this class. Her teaching is fine, as were the tests. What really bothered me was her. I felt that she talked down on us and treated the class as if i was in middle school still. Attendance is absolutely mandatory as is the hour in the math plaza and recitation. The points taken off for missing those can REALLY hurt you. Good luck
Fast-paced class, she will help you ask for it. She may or may not have time during class to answer questions; go to her office. I took her for another math class and had to take the class again. Don't miss a class you will be lost. SHOW all your work she will give you points if you do even if you get the wrong answer. Ok teacher.
With a basic understanding of calculus, Mathews is super easy. If you are new to calc, do the homework (its all on WebAssign), pay attention in class, and work. If you put in some effort- you'll get an A no problem. Devote 3 hours a week to this class.
SHES PERFECT!!! I SUCK AT MATH AND THIS IS MY SECOND TIME IN CAL.1 AND SHE'S A GOD SENT. She's always willing to help and she's super approachable. she also gives you handouts for lecture which really help. Honestly one of the best UTC math teachers I've had.
Professor Matthews is the best math teacher I have ever had. She pushes you, but will help you if you ask for it. You must work for your grade, but you will learn. She is extremely clear and organized. I definitely would take her for any math class.
I had a really, really hard time with her teaching style. It was VERY fast. However, her door was always open and I bugged her constantly. She even allowed me to screen shot homework problems over the weekend and send to her when I needed more direction on what to do. I hated this class, but she was merciful and kind I believe at the end.
She makes herself readily accessible to her students, making learning the material easy. It's easy to get lost in a class of a hundred or so, but if you take the time to make your presence known, she'll take the time to make sure you learn your stuff. It's not hard to pass her class, provided you aren't lazy.
Need to show up to class to actually understand. The class itself can be very boring but if you pay the slightest bit of attention you will pass. There is only 4 test but there is quite a bit of homework but it is all due online. Overall good class.
She's not a bad professor, she's just really slow and drags things on when they don't need to be. I passed her class with an A easily, but was bored throughout the whole semester. ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED! She checks it at the beginning and end of class to make sure you stay the whole time.
I took college algebra with professor Matthews and it was not difficult at all if you show up to class and do the online homework you will be fine. Shes really good about explaining problems and her test are never as hard as the online homework.
She was a good professor, but she moved way too fast. Our class was large and there was a lot of content to be covered, but she never stopped. I still don't really understand what I learned.. She kind of talks to the students like we're children which didn't help. I didn't really like the class, but she was okay.
Professor Matthews is a great choice if you are an auditory learner. Make sure to do all the homework and attend your recitation because Attendance is a huge part of your grade. She really does work hard to make sure everyone understands the material.
Missed first test, managed to still get a B in her class. Great at explaining thoroughly. Cannot miss more than 5 classes or F. Large class, so the only time for individual help is office hours. Plenty of homework.
She's not very good at explaining material and she is EXTREMELY condescending. She constantly changes the dates of homework and piles it on thick. Take at own risk.
She is a great teacher, if you pay attention in class there is no reason you wouldn't pass. All the lecture notes are provided and she walks through all of it with you. The tests are not very similar to the homework though and attendance counts.
She is super condescending. If you are unable to go to EVERY class or don't live on campus DO NOT take her. I wish I hadn't and now have to repeat the class with a different teacher. She teaches like you are in HS but tests like a college prof. She has unrealistic expectations. DO NOT TAKE.
Easily one of my favorite math classes. I am terrible at math and Amanda Matthews makes it easy to understand. One of the most structured classes I've taken so you know when to expect homework, tests, quizzes. Gives clear notes and instructions. As long as you do the homework and stay awake in class, the exams aren't bad. Don't miss class!!!
She gives a lot of help in lecture with her lecture notes. There's a lot of homework but she's also pretty lenient with the online stuff.
I highly recommend taking Matthews for Math 1130. She explained everything with great detail and always asked questions to make sure we understood even though it was a large lecture hall. She can get very boring sometimes, but there is no reason not to pass this class. Math is my worst subject. We do not use the book at all just the student notes.
For me, this class was difficult, and the lectures did not help me much. She would blow through things SO fast, that I couldn't even comprehend what she was saying because I was trying to take notes. The tests were hard, but she drops your lowest. The quizzes were awful. Recitation helps. If you're good at math, you shouldn't have an issue.
She is easy to understand and the lectures aren't bad but is not very willing to help students. She doesn't reconsider grades even if she's wrong and can be rude.
Class is not too difficult if you go. There is additional help offered in the Math Plaza if you are not good at math and recitation also helps. She comes off a little rude during lectures and can be a little confusing but the doing the homework always helps. Homework examples are always in notes. Definitely take her.
She is very good at teaching math. You can tell she is very passionate about it, but she tends to be very serious all the time. Very thorough in lectures, gives very good notes. If you pay attention in this course, you'll pass.
Good teacher she can be a little extra when it comes to the material we learn but shell eventually get to the point. Try to see if you can get out of buying the textbook because all you actually use in her class are the student notes. Try to pay attention in class she has clicker questions every lecture. Tests arent too hard.
I am horrible at math and Dr. Matthews explains everything very specific. I actually understand the way she teaches. She emails the lecture notes for every chapter and is very very organized (if you learn better with organization take her!). Overall, she is a great professor and I would recommend her to anyone that struggles with math.
Professor Matthews is a very helpful teacher. attendance is taken every day and she goes through the chapters pretty quickly so I don't recommend skipping. she gives excellent review guides for tests and FREE tutoring sessions twice a week, so you have no reason to fail tests. she responds to emails quickly and is always ready to answer questions.
Professor Matthews breaks math down into very simple terms anyone can understand if they try. She gives really detailed and helpful study guides with all her notes. Attendance is mandatory, but as long as you copy her notes and pay attention I promise you you will make an A.
she made me not want to get up in the mornings. super rude and doesn't give af if you have the best excuse in the world if u miss class or a test. meanie x100
Explains the material and goes deep into the details, there's almost no way that you will not understand it unless you put in 0 effort. She does a lot of practice examples, which help a lot with the tests. Tests are hard but you should be fine if you study. Multiple online hw assignments each week, stay on top of them b/c it's easy to get behind.
Dr. Matthews was clear, concise and professional. I hate math, but I had no trouble passing her class. She is really kind and helpful, and has no difficulty admitting if she's made a mistake. She's really great and she made math seem not so awful.
Not gonna lie, I was literally on my phone the whole class and the last two exams I made 100s on. It's about your effort-if you practice the study powerpoints provided and do your homework, you're golden.
Professor Matthews is an amazing teacher. She dumbs the material down for you so it's easy to understand. I was worried about this class coming in to college, but it's been one of my easiest classes. Study the printed Exam reviews and show up to class, you only get 3 passes. TAKE HER!
Professor Matthews is obviously devoted to her job. Attendance is a must, but she is always thoughtful if you miss a class. She responds to emails almost immediately, she uses the textbook everday in class (except for quizzes and test days), and she is happy to help anyone that is confused.
Solid teacher, explains things well to students. Never paid attention in class or took notes but easy A. Class isn't hard, she's nice. Attendance is counted with Clickers but doesn't have a huge impact on your grade, you get 3 free absences. One of the better math professors. Responds to emails and regularly sends out email reminders to help you.
Professor Matthews lectures the entire class period, although she does provide print-out notes for you to fill in during the lecture which is helpful. She also posts test reviews and holds study sessions and is willing to answer questions and work out problems with you. There are a lot of homework assignments, 6 quizzes, 4 tests, and a final exam.
You really get out what you put in. Super nice lady and cares about you learning the material. lots of homework, 4 tests, and a final, but very manageable work. Gives you lecture notes to print that you fill out in class. Test reviews don't always completely reflect the test so it's best to be well rounded and really study your notes
Professor Matthews is a good and no nonsense teacher. Even though she treated us like children most of the time, she is very efficient with time and getting through the material. If you need extra help don't be afraid to ask.
Easily the best math teacher Ive ever had. She makes sure to explain everything she does clearly and loves to answer questions and be interactive with the students through the lectures. Be prepared for a lot of homework in this class, but she drops 3 homework grades and a quiz. 10/10 recommend.
Literally the rudest teacher I have ever had. I was literally in the hospital and she wouldn't let me take my test at a later date. She doesn't answer questions just simply responds with "go ask the tutors for help". DO NOT listen to these other people avoid her at all costs.
She did not adjust to online classes well. Posts videos of notes to fill out that don't apply to the homework. Takes points off of tests and quizzes quickly. You can get a perfect answer and have half the score taken off.
Doesn't explain a single thing
Her absentee policy doesnt allow for makeup work even in extreme cases. My main issue with her is how much studying is needed to stay with her lessons. The way she teaches is very hard to follow along, she never stops to explain it better, you always have to meet with her after class for that, and she never tries to get the students engaged.
99% of the class is copying down notes if you learn that way that's fine but most of the people in my class is struggling.
We are expected to memorize three weeks' worth of pre-cal material then we are given a test. There is also a portion on the tests where we are not allowed to use calculators. The amount of studying that we have to do to keep up in her class is very unreasonable.
She never gets the students involved in the teaching making for a dull learning experience and she is so strict about her attendance policy that my grade dropped 17 points because she did not let me make up a test I missed due to a funeral.
The professor herself is good but the curriculum is brutal. If you do poorly on a test it will tank your grade because they are worth 90% of the final grade. Because of this half of my class dropped the class after the first test and another half of what remained dropped the class after the second test.
If you come to class, fill in her printout notes, and do the homework, this class is not as bad as it otherwise could be. Calc 2 is going to be hard. She made it as easy as it reasonably could be. Lectures are easy to follow, and she always lets you know far enough in advance of the next test or quiz.
She is great!!! also I took calc 2 with her not 1950 but it wasn't a option.
She's one of the best math teachers I've ever had. The fill in lecture notes help immensely and she explains everything in a clear manner. Lots of homework but it's manageable. Quizzes and tests are an appropriate difficulty. I absolutely intend to have her as an instructor again in the future.
A great math professor, she does fill-in notes in class, and makes everything very clear. She spends a lot of time reviewing and practicing before the test. A decent amount of homework but not overloading at all, especially for a math class. Gives a few free skip days for attendance, but in general to pass you need to be in class.
Open to questions durring class, gives SO many reminders for upcoming homework, tests, assignments. Explains this very well. Made this class SUPER easy. If you need to take math 1010, absolutely take her class.
I took her class as a dual enrollment student and hugely benefited from the class. She gave us guided notes and dropped the lowest quiz, test, and 3 homework grades. Final exam was worth 25% of the grade but was by far the easiest test of the year. If you do all the homework on time and come to class with the guided notes, then you will succeed.
She is a pretty good teacher. She gives annoying homework online, but it is manageable. She is sweet and I would take again.
You have to go to class to pass. She grades quizzes and tests really easy and lets you drop worst grades.
I love Prof. Matthews! I am not a math major, and she made this class engaging and easy. She takes her time explaining concepts and is gracious when you get an answer wrong. If you get above a 70 on a test you don't have to attend the math plaza, and if you have above a 70 in the class you are exempt from the final! I highly recommend!
Professor Matthews is very sweet! She tends to overexplain some things, so class can be boring, but she is always helpful if you have questions. If you can show up and pay attention, her teaching is effective and you'll do good in her class.
Super easy to follow and wants every student to pass. Attendance is mandatory but she really does a great job of explaining the material.
I have had Professor Matthews for Math1950 and 1960. While both classes have been challenging, Professor Matthews has been fair in grading and has set reasonable expectations. If you put in the work you will do just fine, Calculus is not an easy subject so do not expect a cake walk.
She's the best math teacher I've ever had. She is very organized and makes her expectations clear. She is so good at explaining things in lecture and her office hours. The only issue is the amount of homework leaves so little time for studying if you actually do it yourself and a lot of the problems are way harder than the ones on the tests.
Professor Matthews is truly a great math teacher. Her ability to teach the material is impressive. While I have already taken pre-calculus in high school, even if I hadn't this would have been an easy class. She does a great job of explaining things and will help you in depth when you need it. Highly recommend!
Professor Matthews is a very genuine and kind person. Her lectures can get a little boring, but honestly if you just show up try a little bit you will do good. Math 1010 is relatively easy, but if you don't understand the material she is more than willing to help!
Prof. Matthews is great! She walks you through the notes and they are very clear. Her tests are pretty easy as long as you attend class and follow along with the material. I took pre-calc in high school which helped me a lot prior to this course; however, I still highly recommend!
Professor Matthews is very organized and clear in her teaching. The guided notes and homework help a lot, though the work can be time-consuming. unstuck AI is a great tool for preparing for exams.
Professor Matthews is a great person and I have much respect for her. However, her class was certainly difficult, especially being a freshman, which most of her students are. She does lectures every day the same way and there is lots and lots of homework and tests. It can be rough at times, so please don't be afraid to ask for help/tutoring.
I would choose her for this course again. Her teaching is very clear and helpful when needed for clarifications. Course includes guided notes, practice exams, and lots of homework. The course is difficult but not impossible. If you attend all lectures, actually do the homework, STUDY THE PRACTICE TESTS, and ask for clarifications you'll be fine.
For a difficult class like calculus 2, Professor Matthews is as good of an instructor as you can ask for. Her instructions are very clear and lectures are as interesting as they can be for calculus. She also provides you with guided notes to follow along with in class. Shes very approachable and youll be fine if you study the material she assigns
BOOOOOOOOOO dude, she literally blows, she is the definition of an evil AI that took over teaching, crawled into a human bod,y and started teaching math class. If you want to save yourself from drinking an entire bottle of Everclear on a Tuesday night, don't take this class for the love of god. Go Mocs.
Mrs. Matthew's is a very very kind person. But…if you are a freshmen and bad at math DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. Save yourself from the crippling anxiety because every test/quiz is 48% of your grade, even if you fail a test the homework won't even boost your grade. Studying won't save you either. “The easiest math course on campus!” Is a lie.
Dude this class was hard most of our grades was 50 or below. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I hoped id get ran over so I wouldn't have to attend the long class. She also gives a shit ton of homework to the point were you have to time crunch. The instructions for her projects also made no sense. She repeats herself alot too which made it harder
If you are a freshmen do not take this class. It is not 'the easy math class on campus". While she will help you if you have questions and is very nice about it, there is a lot of work and a lot you have to on your own. There are a lot of assignments every week and not enough time to actually do them to understand them.
Hey so if you are not already good at math, this class is SO HARD. There's so much work all the time, the tests are so difficult, and in my experience, she's lowkey unhelpful when you don't understand something. My tutor and I sat on two questions on one of the homeworks for our entire session, and she ended up using AI and still got them wrong...
She is definitely super nice and will help if you need it, but sitting in her class is torture. Her lectures are so overcomplicated and she over explains things to where it makes it so confusing. The key to this class is to go, not to pay too much attention, and learn on your own. AI and practice examples helped me way more than she did.
A test, test review + Project each chapter. HW(green sheet),Quiz, Notes, MyMathlab HW each WK ai helps too. 1hr Math Plaza if grade low 70. Sign in attendence. Lecture easy to follow, but lots of work for a gen ed class. Pick someone else if you can. 2 chapter are difficult, rest are fine if u pay attention. not for the bare minimum students.
I thought she was great, very helpful
