Really boring, tests arent too hard, clicker questions is the only reason to go to class
She was a decent professor. Always answered emails asap and made herself available, wanted you to understand/pass and would repeat/explain herself if needed. Her lectures are really boring because she reads straight from the slides but if you miss a class she always posts everything online.
Worst professor I have had yet. all she does is read the slides during class and never shows you how to actually solve the problem.
Great STAT 206 teacher! Going to class isn't mandatory but you should definitely go since clicker questions help your grade A LOT (and there are about 3-7 every class). Usually, 3 individual projects that she plainly shows you how to complete in class. Very helpful if you need assistance with class and emails note outlines.
She was a great prof, there are class activity in class which is how participation is calculated and they're like pop quizzes so even though going to class isn't necessarily mandatory, that's how she knows if you did go to lecture. She's helpful and actually explains the material.
She was an amazing professor. She was easily accessible and the content was very clear as long as you paid attention. She answered all my questions, and grading was clear. Very good professor.
she may be different prior to virtual, but online shes average, her voice is monotoned & is a little rude when responding in emails, the class is dependent on labs & quizzes, from what I've heard she's better than some of the other stat profs due to her lecture vids being clearer, material for class's tough so you may have to work if ur bad at math
shes really cool and helpful, the class can definitely be easy if you do the notes and do the MSLs that she assigns. its not hard to delegate and get everything done in the week she assigns.
Easiest statistics class you could take. She is extremely knowledgable and explains concepts in an easy and understandable way. I'm normally terrible at math but got a 97 in this class. Best class I've taken during COVID - very well organized.
Ton of extra credit opportunities, but you definitely won't need if you just show up, listen, and follow notes. Super nice and very social, always there to help. Gives the test for the exam from the previous semester as a review. Did very well and learned a lot, possibly better math teacher than any I've had in high school.
lectures are kind of boring and she goes fast, but if you do all the homework the material isn't difficult. There are pop quizzes for every chapter but you can kind of figure out the pattern on when they will be. You also only have to take 5/10 of them. I recommend.
Amanda is great! Her lectures are based of of an outline that you can print out and fill in as you go. She does record her lectures so you can view them outside of class if you needed to, However, there are often lecture quizes so I would not recommend skipping class unless youre doing very well. Overall, I would recommend her!
Professor Murphy's class was honestly my favorite class this semester. She has lectures and you have fill in the blank notes. There is 4 exams including the cumulative final (all in person). There is 11 homework assignments and 10 quizzes you take in class. You can work with others and use your notes on the quizzes. Prof Murphy is a GREAT option!
SHE IS THE BEST! She cares on if you are doing good in the class or not. Going to class is super important to learn the material for assessments. Also she gives you so many things to help prepare for tests. She lets you do quizzes with a group.
Professor Murphy makes it very easy to do well in STAT206. Exams are very easy if you go to class, do the homework, and do the practice exam she gives to prepare for tests. As long as you put effort into the class you will do well. Classes can be mundane though as it is just her reading through a note outline.
This class is super easy if you take notes and pay attention, do the homework, and test reviews. It's impossible to do bad if you just try in this class. Her tests are super easy. You have to do 5 out of the 10 pop quizzes she gives out in class, but after you do 5 you pretty much don't have to show up anymore.
I took statistics in high school and could not understand it for the life of me. Taking Amanda's class actually made me understand stats and it was one of my easier classes this semester. Homework is minimal but prepares you well for exam content. Lots of opportunities to have lower grades dropped. Amanda takes lots of feedback from the class too!
High school stat was so confusing so I didn't know what to expect coming into this but she made this class a walk in the park. Best explainer I have seen in school so far, recommend 100%
She is super nice, creates all her own material and doesn't use a textbook. Goes through note packets but all lectures are recorded so you don't need to show up. Tests are exactly like the notes and she gives you lots of extra points on homework and quizzes so it's easy to get full credit.
Mrs. Murphy has been one of my favorite professors at this university. She teaches the content really well and it is a pretty easy class as long as you pay attention and do your homework. I definitely would take her class again because she does everything in her power to make it as simple as possible.
Mrs. Murphy makes this class as simple as it can possibly be. I liked her as a person and as a teacher. She was very helpful and did things just as a professor should. Always accessible outside of class. Exams were a breeze, and she gives great study material, including last semester's exams which were very similar to the ones you were studying for
My favorite professor my fall semester. She is very clear and puts HW on Blackboard instead of making you buy a website subscription. Exams + quizzes are very straightforward and she wants you to succeed- she made stat fun for me. Quizzes were at the end of class of each lecture part- be there that day. Also print the lecture notes out! Loved her
Best professor I've had. Can miss multiple pop quizzes + homework and get a 100 in each category, doesn't require textbook, clear grading criteria + note outlines, lots of study materials (including last semesters exams), answers emails fast, good feedback, approachable. Attendance isn't mandatory but go for notes and quizzes. Wants you to succeed.
She obviously wants us to succeed. She gives us so much extra credit and is available outside of class. For exams, she gives partial credit too! My favorite professor so far!
Lectures are guided notes, quizzes at the end of some classes but multiple-choice, open note, and you can work with as many people around you as you want. Put in the work to learn for tests and you'll get an A. I got a C in stat my senior year of highschool and a 103 in her class, she made the material so much easier to understand.
Prof Murphy is seriously so great!! Her class is so well structured and she tells you exactly what to study for exams. She replies to emails and questions so quickly and thoroughly. She has note outlines that make the class so much clearer. Almost everyones gets a good grade on the exams. Homework and quizzes are easy and not stressful.
One of the best classes ive ever taken so far. I finished with over a 100% without putting a crazy amount of effort in. Attendance isnt mandatory but you should go. She emails the exam grade statistics, and the majority scored at least an 80-85 on every exam. Very nice, but hard to bring yourself to at 8:30. She gives you every change to get an A
Genuinely the best professor I have had here. Her attendance is not required but she does notice who comes to class and puts the work in so it is so worth going. She is so helpful and gives you great study guides for the exams that help a lot. If you have to take stat take it with her.
No better teacher to teach an introductory course. She simplifies content in the best way possible. No surprises or quizzes, just a lot of easy homework, 3 big exams, and an optional final. She's clear, concise, and gives students all the resources they need to pass. Highly recommend!
Working with Murphy has really set my expectations high. She's kind, and her study guides are very useful and almost mirrored to the test. Because it was an intro class, there weren't any calculations during tests. It was mainly lectures, but even those are available online. The class was a breeze even for someone who didn't have STAT in highschool
SHE IS MY FAVORITE! Take this class and you will pass stats with flying colors. She answers all questions and teaches in a way that the content makes sense. She provides so many resources to help prepare for her exams and you can use notes on all quizzes.
She is a great professor and the class is pretty straight forward. Take her
Prof Murphy was an amazing Stats professor! Lectures can be boring, but that's just stats. She is super friendly and super accessible outside of class! I took AP Stats in HS and I went to class probably 5 times and finished with almost a 100%. Super easy class, but go to lectures if you haven't taken stats before.
I could not recommend her enough! This class was easy and I also feel like I learned something. The study guides prepared you very well for the exams. She also gave out small assignments after lecture that added points to your homework grade, so there were many opportunities for extra points. The final was even optional which was a big plus!
Very kind professor, it is valuable to go to her lectures but she does not grade off of if you come or not. All lectures are recorded so you can watch them whenever. Her tests are hard if you do not study for them but she gives you a lot of materials too and prepare you well. Lots of homework but you only have to do so many of them, easy on grades.
Prof Murphy is an amazing teacher for stats and made this class almost impossible to fail as long as you attend the lectures to get the notes (not posted on bb). Only one weekly homework and 3 test for the semester with an optional final. Very enjoyable lecture and almost always got out early. Would highly recommend!
She goes through the material in depth so you understand the concepts. If you go to class and try you will get an A. She is very helpful and understanding.
If you have to take stats I would take her. Her class was fairly easy and she gave all the material you need to pass the exams. She gives a ton of time to complete the homework assignments. She gives a review and previous exams for each exam. They are similar to the actual exam.
Best professor for this class. I hated stats in high school and didn't do well but she makes the material so easy to understand. The workload is extreamly managable and she gives you so many resources in preparation for exams. 10/10 would take again.
Professor Murphy is an outstanding professor. The class is based on her lectures, but she provides note outlines that make it very easy to follow along and understand the material. There are lecture quizzes after you finish a overall lecture part, but they're open note and you can work with those around you. Tests are a lot like study guides.
Really great she is the only STAT teacher that doesn't require the text book. The content is rough but she gives you everything you need to study for exams, including the past semesters test. Lectures are kinda boring but she makes it easier and gives guided notes. She does require attendance and is a stickler for no cheating.
If you need to take this class, then please take her. It's not really hard and you get to actually learn something that will help you. The exam is actually like what she teaches and she gives you a lot of resources to help you prepare for exams. I had this class in the early morning, but it was really worth going to class.
The lectures are optional and recorded, with fill in the blank notes online that are easy to print and follow. Tests are easily graded and she gives a lot of partial credit. No quizzes and the final can replace your lowest test grade. She's super nice even if it's just a lot of listening and writing it's not as terrible as far as math classes go.
Take Amanda for Stats! She is very straight forward with the class, and it is made clear exactly what will be on the tests. She prepares you with exam reviews and as long as you study before each exam you will get an A in her class. You do need to attend class in order to get points for the class activity.
Absolutely loved this class and this professor, I wish she taught every math class at USC. She goes out of her way to help students and makes note sheets, hw assignments, and tests by hand so she is never going to try and trick you. She is the only stats class where you don't need a textbook and she will answer any questions you have- super helpful
this is the best class i have ever taken and it is because of prof Murphy she's the best teacher i have ever had i would do stats everyday for fun because of her. i love her. take her class she is the best.
Amanda Murphy gives incredible lectures and is extremely forgiving with grades. She gives many opportunities with assignments to recover your grade. Tests are partial credit, with a formula sheet. She records every lecture to review and gives review material for each test!
take murphy if she is available. its worth it even if the class time sucks
Absolutely LOVED this professor! only stats professor who doesn't require the textbook because she writes all her own notes and exam. The exams are very straightforward, she gives great study tools to prepare. Attendance not mandatory because she records and posts all the lecture material, but def recommended. Overall, amazing professor love her!
I highly recommend taking Professor Murphy for stat 201. She gives out her own note outlines and does not require you to buy a textbook. You do need to do class activities and hw otherwise your grade will tank but if you put in the work you'll be completely fine
Lots of homework, watch lecture videos and then complete hw assignments. Professor is very good at organizing and teaching in an easy way. First time I ever understood statistics.
Very good at preparing you for tests. Make sure to not fall behind because there is a lot of material to remember. She gives extra credit and curves the grades when needed. Awesome professor.
Professor Murphy has been the best college professor that I've had, and I'm going to miss her and her class a lot. The lectures are very straightforward and clear on what is expected of you, and she is available for any questions or concerns that you may have. Exams are hard but she prepares well for them.
Professor Murphy is the best for STAT 206. She makes stats easy for non-majors with clear teaching and practical study materials. Attendance is required, homework is simple, and her grading is generous. Exams are straightforward, and the final has no math. If you prepare using her study guides, you'll do great. Highly recommend her class!
If you're taking STAT 206 take her. She is amazing, Lots of wiggle room for error and she gives lots of good stud guides. She is also a great person.
Take her. Great teacher, easy class, and she'll save you hundreds of dollars in textbooks.
SHE WAS SO AWESOME!!! She is the reason I actually kind of enjoy statistics now. I loved her class so much, and she made it super easy to do well. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. She is so easy to reach out to outside of class if you need help with anything. Her content is easy to understand, and she knows her stuff!
SO EASY!! you barely have to pay attention in class to get the notes down (fill in the blank) and she records her lectures. Homework is infrequent and easy. I studied the night befoe for each exam and got A+'s on them all without ever taking statistis. tests are SO easy and plently of opportunities to drop bad grades if needed. She's great!!!
Great professor. She makes it super clear what she expects and sticks to it. If you pay attention in class and do the moderate amount of homework she assigns, this class is an easy A. She also does not require you to buy a textbook which is not usual for this course. She gives you a cheat sheet with formulas for all tests too.
She's an amazing stat professor, she really helps you to understand the material. You don't have to go to class, but I'd recommend it.
Great teacher. Class can get boring at times. Fairly easy material.
Amazing professor. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she gives random extra credit that really boosts your grade. The final is optional as well. If you pay attention, do the lectures, and show up, you get an A.
Last semester I dropped STAT 206 because my professor couldn't dumb the information down to my level. Amanda has been teaching this material for a while, and she has this class down to an art. She provides incredibly helpful study material, and her exams aren't insanely hard. She's accessible outside of class. Overall, she knows what she's doing.
Would highly recommend! Came into college nervous about taking stat but she explains everything really well and genuinely wants her students to succeed. Every exam she gives you a study guide that basically has the answers. You have to put in work but she makes it easy to do well in the class!
No textbook, she uses fill in the blank notes which are clear and very helpful for test review. She gives lots of room for missed quizzes, class activities, etc. She provided a lot of study materials for the exams, so the class is easy if you put in the effort. Great teacher and overall great class.
Take her! While it is a math class, it is bearable and shes the best. Class participation points (don't have to go everyday but u need some many points). Doable HW (one per lecture/chapter) and exams are very straightforward. No math needed. She couldn't of made it any easier. Very fair 10/10!!!!!!!
If you are looking for a stats class to take make sure it's with he. She is so down-to-earth and explains everything super well for you to get an easy A in this class
She does such an amazing job preparing you for exams. The study guide has an example of anything you might see on an exam. Short homework assignments that are helpful to learn the information. One of the best professors!! highly recommend!
Murphy is a great teacher. She cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. The material can be difficult but she is very clear at explaining things and about what she expects from her students. her review materials are very helpful.
She was super knowledgable and had great lectures! Gives you 40 possible participation points, and you only need 20 to get a 100 in participation. Gives note outlines to print, and the tests were easy if you attend the lectures. The only thing is that only accepts doctor's notes for exams, not homework grades. Drops 2 HW grades at end of year.
She is an incredible teacher, the lessons are always fill-in-the-blank, and the content is really easy. You do need to come to class regularly, because she does have extra assignments which can only be done in class.
She's awesome! Lectures are so easy to understand and all the notes are fill in the blank. Exams are super easy because she gives you so many resources to use to study. Have to go to class for in class activities that are graded but she only takes the top 10 highest graded. Films and posts all the lectures, she is great.
As long as you pay attention, you won't need to study excessively outside of class. The homework is unlimited attempts, so if you put in the work, you can get a 100. The final exam is optional, it will replace your worst exam grade if you need it. She records all of her lectures, so if you miss class you can stay caught up.
She is one of the best professors I have had. The lectures are fill-in-the-blank notes and are so easy to follow along. She gives you 3 attempts on all hw's, making it easy to get a 100 on all of them. All of her quizzes are done in class, and are open notes, and you can work with whoever. Exams were very easy, she is an easy grader. Just study!
Took her class for Business STAT 206, it was okay. think it was only because it was online that's why there was so much work. The online exams are monitor with 2 proctors using MonitorEDU. (the monitor thing was stressful). Overall, class was not hard but not easy either.
Murphy comes off as harsh but honestly shes amazing she gives more then enough chances to get extra credit her exams are all multiple choices and pretty easy and if you look at the study guide.
As long as you do the homework and pay attention to her studying tools, it would be difficult not to do good. She makes the grading criteria very clear. Optional Final. Gives extra credit. Respectful and always offers to help!
straightforward class set up well with lots of extra credit
Great professor and teaching style. Decent amount of assignments and grades to balance each other out. Final exam grade can replace your lowest regular exam. I recommend going to SI and also her personal review sessions.
I took this class online so I think the layout is slightly different. The exams have this weird proctoring where you use two devices and also you pay ~$40 for it. She gives great prep for the exams, do all the practice she gives you and you'll get an A. Overall, easy class but there is more homework for the online section so just beware of that.
She is one of the best teachers I've ever had. She provides many study materials and an in-depth study guide to help you succeed. She posts all her lectures online, so if you miss class, you can catch up. You only have to attend half of the classes, and if you attend more, you can get up to 20 points of extra credit. definitely take her!
Professor Murphy is a great professor. She is caring and makes the class easy to understand. Attendance isn't mandatory but show up to get the class participation points. The homework are unlimited attempts. Overall, she tries her best to explain things with an optional final.
Great instructor you do have to go to a certain amount of lecture in order to get your in class points but once you receive them all then you can just watch the videos that are in bb.
She clearly cares about her student's succeeding in her class, as she gives plenty of opportunities to do well. She also explains the material in a straightforward way. You are graded on attendance, but only until a certain point. Once you reach that, you can just watch the videos on BB. Follow her lectures and study materials, and you'll do well.
The class is not very difficult, and she gives ample study resources and a formula sheet on all exams besides the final. She teaches certain things slightly different than AP Statistics so still review, but if you've taken statistics in high school, it shouldn't be too challenging to get an A.
I have a learning disability in math and have always had a hard time to follow along with material when it came to math. However, this instructor has been one of the only teachers that has made me understand math. She wanted everyone to succeed and HW is unlimited attempts. No calculator was needed on any tests in this class as well!
She used a proctor called monitorEDU and I didn't like it because I would ready to take my exam but I would have to wait 20-30 for the person to join the google meet. I thought she was alright but videos were long. If I had to do again I would take her in person.
She records all her lectures and posts them on BB which I found helpful when refreshing material for exams. Lots of extra credit if you participate enough.
This class is pretty straightforward and easy. Professor Murphy assigns homework for each module we cover. There are three exams in total, not including the optional final. None of the exams require you to do any math. You should do fine in this class if you attend regularly (attendance is taken), complete the homework, and do well on exams.
Best math teacher ever. Attendance is not mandatory, and she records all lectures. You will have to come to class sometimes because she gives out pop quizzes that are open note. Tests are simple and she gives great study guides and will let you look at old exams. Take her for stats and you will not be disappointed.
I took 206 online because a 4 on AP Stats wasn't enough to get out of 206. The class content was super simple, and I watched all the recorded lectures on 2x speed. The workload was maybe an hour and a half every week. MonitorEDU was super annoying for exams, but it was okay. I always got super quick answers to questions or emails which was awesome!
Good professor- communicates well. Just be ready to put in lots of work if you take it online over the summer. Very easy to fall behind but not difficult content, especially if you have any background knowledge in statistics
Every class is a lecture with participation at the end and attendance is mandatory. Slightly harsh grading because tests are majority of grade.
She is a nice and understanding proffessor. She is a pretty tough grader but provides plenty of materials. Extremely test heavy, doing homeworks and attending lectures does assist with grading but not quite as much.. However she is very accomadating. Would take her again, very good at teaching stats.
She does everything she can to help her students understand and succeed. Attendance is tracked but not mandatory, you can miss a bunch of classes and still be fine, not all of them though. I highly recommend. She is a very clear teacher and genuinely wants her students to succeed, so she gives all the help she can.
She is awesome! I'm horrible at math, but this class was extremely manageable and the exams were not hard at all. She's a great teacher who genuinely wants everyone to succeed, can't recommend her enough.
Really great! Uses fill in the blank notes so you can listen instead of worrying about writing everything on the board.12 homework assignments that are really easy. 3 tests, all multiple choice. She makes a study guide for each test which is really helpful. Don't have to take the final if you like your grade. Really recommend!
Explains like you're 5 which is kinda nice. Study guides make it impossible to fail
Amazing prof for people who don't love math. You get unlimited HW attempts and final grade is made up of all you highest scores. Final is optional if you pass the first 3 exams (which isn't hard to do). Super manageable class - Prof. Murphy is awesome DEF TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. I haven't heard a single complaint about her from anyone in my class.
TAKE HER CLASS!!! I have genuinely never been good at math and passed her class with an A. She is extremely clear with what she wants on the exams. She assigns homework after every chapter, but you get a week to do it and unlimited attempts. She offers a ton of extra credit as well. I can't recommend her enough
Ms. Amanda is literally one of the best instructors you could ever take at USC. Her lectures are thorough, her grading criteria is easy to understand, and she truly cares about the success of every single one of her students. If you can take a class with her, please do. You will not regret it.
I'm not a math person, but Amanda made the material super understandable. Her lectures may not be the most interesting; however, she cracks a few jokes and breaks everything down to make it easy.
I'm not very good at math, and it showed through my exam grades, but overall I think this class was easy to follow. I do wish we were able to use our notes on exams, it seems a bit archaic to not use notes, you can still make mistakes even using notes. That being said, formula sheets were provided so you didn't have to memorize them.
Prof Murphy takes time explaining the material and making sure every single student understands. The study guides are amazing, almost exactly what is on the exam provided with an answer key, if you do them its almost impossible to do bad on the exams.
Definitely take her class, Professor Murphy is amazing! I have to take 201 next, and I am definitely taking her again. Most of your grade is based on 3 exams, but there is homework with each chapter, with unlimited attempts. She does take attendance, but as long as you show up sometimes, you'll be fine. She also offers (a lot of) extra credit too!
Amanda Murphy is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. There's definitely a lot of work but it really helps you to prepare for the exams. She gives you a ton of test prep and makes the homework and exam review harder than the actual exam so you're over prepared. She is also amazing with people with accommodations and super organized.
She is extremely knowledgeable about the material and explains everything in a way that's easy to understand. The exams are very manageable, and the outlines and study guides she provides are incredibly helpful (they're very similar to what appears on the tests, so you feel well prepared). Overall, a great professor. Highly recommend!
Overall, this class was very simple and great professor. Class participation at the end of most classes, provides extra credit, don't need a calculator for exams and are multiple choice. Homework is tricky, but you get unlimited attempts. Study guides are very useful to study for exams, but are time consuming.
Amanda Is great.People who do bad in this class either don't pay attention or don't go to class.Even if you dont go she posts full lecture videos on black board(GOAT activities). The best way to study for these test are to watch all of them before and I promise you'll be ready. she also gives study guides which is pretty much the exam but dif words.
Took the Hybrid class with the lab in person. Everything was set up very clear, and lecture videos were easy to follow. She gives you everything you need to know for exams, as long as you can do the practice problems on the study guides, you'll be fine for exams. Final was cumulative/mandatory, but it was all multiple choice. Exams are in person.
