Amanda was a really great lady. She won't be teaching at Foothill next quarter (winter '05) but if she ever comes back, take her class! 6 easy quizzes, very helpful in Lab, gave a lot of credit just for trying in the class. Was very speedy in lecturing, but helpful just the same!
She's a sweet lady but isn't very helpful or incredibly clear.
nice lady, but unclear and not very helpful. I wouldn't reccomend her unless you've taken chem before and understand the concepts well.
she was a disaster...very unhelpful and rude...I don't recommend her...I was extremlly dissapointed! :(
If you read your book and take good lecture notes then it is definatly possible to get a good grade. Some of her lectures didn't come out clear, but if you go in and talk to her during office hours she is very good at helping you understand what she was trying to say. Overall, I liked her.
She's "sweet" but not helpful-- she has this false empathy that's a bit frusturating because it feels like she's not hearing your questions or really caring to help you understand things... A lot of times I felt like I was talking to a smiling wall....Anyways, lecture's ok-- a bit unclear but not horrible, although I wouldn't reccomend this class.
Oh No Never AGAin! i wish i had seen this site before registering for her class. Amanda is like a robot on autopilot. She has poor teaching skills. She breezes through everything, and most annoying: every five minutes she repeats herself by saying, are you getting it? Good Good I see some nods and then speeds on to the next topic.
Again...as everyone has said, she is nice. However nice is not going to help you pass this class. She flies through her lectures and if you have a question or need help, her only response is come to office hours. My response to that is "If your lectures were clear and slower, the whole class would not need office hours. I do not recommend her.
I am a good student and I do not recommend this instructor. I got an "A" in Amanda's class and I helped other classmates because they were not getting the help and/or explanation on the material during class. Help was only available during office hours. Get real, not everyone can make it to office hours. Search for another instructor.
I also am a good student. A instructor should not have to constantly refer students to her office hours if she is clear during lecture. There are so many frustrated students at her office waiting for help. This is an elementary Class; Stop basing the speed of your lectures on the few students that should be in a higher level class. She is BAD!!!
She is a nice person but unfortunately in teaching she is very unorganized, confusing, and inexperienced. I do not recommend her at all.
WARNING!!! DO NOT take this lady; VERY terrible. She flies through lecture; as long as 1 student understands, she says, "yea, i see some good nods", then keeps going. if you have questions, she tells you to go to her office hr. If you are not there first, be prepared to wait 30-60 min- she basically repeats her whole lecture to ea student. BAD BAD
I agree with everyone else. Nice person but not a good instructor. The prerequisite for this class is algebra, but she teaches the class as if everyone has had chemistry before. I do not recommend this class to anyone who has never taken chemistry before.
She explains things really well. She pretty clear on what you need to know and also she is always willing to help you if you don't understand something.
Amanda is a very nice and sweet lady. as an instructor, she is helpful, clear in her notes and very straight forward. I learned a lot about chemistry.
She is the absoulute worst teacher I've ever had! Her answers to all of the in class questions were "come to my office hrs". She's a robot on crack! It's very difficult to understand the concepts when she teaches them so fast and she can only explain them in one way. She will make the simpliest basic things as complex and confusing as can be.
Very kind, patient, and helpful.
I DO NOT recommend this instructor. She is not helpful in class. Can't get help unless you go to her office hours which is hard to do if you have to go to work. Group exercises are lame, part of your grade is her evaluation about you, STUPID!! It's a shame this school doesn't have another instructor during the day. Take Chem 30A at another school.
Hard class, but overall good teacher.
Amanda is a very helpful professor. Not everyone can make office hours, but not every professor makes herself as available as Amanda does either. I am an A student, and I found class difficult, but I ended up with As in both 30A and B - I just had to work harder than in any other class. I hear Kendig is easier, but you will learn a lot from Aman
she's not as bad as i thought she was going to be. she's clear on explaining things and makes her self available (office and email). she also grades quite fairly. the only thing i didn 't like was that she crams SO much info in such a short time. she is "okay"
Amanda's a great teacher, she has very good and organized structure in her lectures. I will have to warn that she is quick but if you take good notes, then you will find everything you need in her study guides to get a decent grade in her class. I got A's in both 30A and 30B. She's really nice and helpful too.
Amanda is an excellent teacher. She is very clear in her lectures but just to warn you, her lectures are very fast. All her exams are pretty easy (if you study). She gives you an outline of what will be on the exams and pretty much you just need to study for it. So there are 3 exams, 2 assignments, and a final for the lecture class.
She is so excited about the material, I wanted to learn. She provides a lot of information, but is very clearly organized. Her notes are available. She helps me at the PSME center.
Amanda is a great instructor. I highly recommend her. She is very orgenised that u can never see any instructor like that orgenized. she also very excited about the material that she teaches , she always put time in math center for her student, two days a week other than her office hours. Eventhoug i still don't know my grade just want to tell ever
Great teacher
Very helpful, would spend as much time as necessary on a subject to make sure everyone understood it or could ask questions on it.
Goes way to fast for a course that is supposed to be for students who have never taken Chem before. A lot of work required, don't expect to be able to take a full load and this class as well. Lot's of drops.
She's highly organized, very clear, all notes are on-line. She follows her schedule well and tests what she teaches. I worked hard, esp in 30B, and learned alot. She wants the students to succeed and will provide help. I am an A+ student and at times I wanted her to move more quickly, esp in 30A. Overall, she's great and I'd highly recommend her.
She is very organized in her lectures. Do attend ALL her lectures, and they will HELP! Of course, chemistry is hard for most of us, and that is why I had to study a LOT to get that A! I have had other chemistry classes before, and she is the only chemistry teacher that I learn the most from, since she makes it interesting!
Very energetic. Her love of teaching makes the class interesting.
She is the best chemistry teacher. She makes chemistry so easy to understand and interesting. She is very organized, pleasant, and exteamly helpful. Her grading system provivides a chance to recover grade if you didn't do well on some tests during the course. Her grading is very generous. Do the homeworks properly, then getting A will be easier.
Awesome instructor! Very clear and precise about key points and what was expected to succeed. Always made sure that everyone understood before moving on. Very approachable in class and during office hours.
she was the worst proffesour ever. she thinks everyone took chemistry before whrn this is a class for befinners
Awful, this was probably the worst class ever and the worst teacher ever. She is rude, and they class sucked!! AVVVOOOIIIIDDD
To all you babies: Chem is not easy for anyone the first time . Stop complaining, read your book, do the homework, & go to tutoring. I've taken lots of science classes; trust me, she's a good teacher. Big class + hard material + limited time = beinging proactive in your own learning. Grow up & stop expecting to be pampered. You're in college now.
Professor Norick is super helpful! She tries her best to help the students whom want to succeed. She's very approachable for help during her office hours and encourages you to go to her office hours to help you succeed! Although i admit that CHEMISTRY is very hard for me, she was fun and would teach us various ways to be able to memorize the materi
WASTE of TIME attending this class.Spends TOO MUCH TIME explaining repetitive things like we are still in High School.Would NOT recommend her if Science/Math is your weak subject.TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!Obviously does NOT care about her students!
Her lectures are not always interesting and sometimes spends to much time on some things and not enough on others. But as far as the way she teaches she's one of the better ones. Easy to approach and ask ?'s. Labs are quick and easy. Only 2 assignments that are easy to do and 3 test/quizzes. I will be taking her classes again.
I never took chemistry in high school This is equivalent but in one quarter. I need this course for my allied health program. Professor Norick was GREAT in making it clear, but I needed to do the homework and get help in the PSME Center. The students that had it in HS already said it was easy (duh)! Others did not study and complained. Grow up...
Fantastic teacher! She explains things very thoroughly and is available for additional help during office hours. She makes it clear from the beginning that chemistry is difficult, but if you are willing to study, do the homework and show up, she will do everything she can can to help you. I expected to hate chemistry, now I LOVE it!
She is a great...GREAT teacher. She is so good at delivering information that everyone at all levels can understand. I actually walked away from the class thinking I liked chemistry. She is a hard grader, but fair. She is always willing to help, and the work pays off. I really wish i had her for 30B!
Got an A- from a great teacher. always struggled with math but Norick made the material understandable. If you need Chem take it from her. And everyone who dissed her on this page... Chemistry is hard, you have to do the work to understand it, and she made every opportunity avsailable to you.
The best Chemistry professor. She is very helpful and very clear. Exams aren't hard as long as you study. You put in your work and you will get an A. Only downside is that everybody likes her and her classes fill up FAST!!!!
Norick is so good at explaining chemistry, I didn't feel the need to study for the test or do the homework. Err I didn't get an A. Warning, she gives + and - on grades and the final is comprehensive. Recommended
precise, clear spoken, well prepared, utilized class time efficiently, always available for questions, always gave feedback and multiple examples. it's a hard class but she makes learning very possible and teaches each lesson in a way that appeals to all learning methods. slacking is not an option with this professor. very professional. great!
worst teacher i had in my carrer pllus she did not let my friend and i speak in our own language, horrible, terrible please avoid her
she sucks she is rude i hate her, i failed with her twice
This is a truly gifted teacher who is extremely organized, clear and, on top of all that, very accessible. Emails to her are returned very quickly. Tests are relatively easy IF you do the homework and really study the concepts. She keeps the class in control at all times. Fantastic experience.
worst teacher i had in 5 years rude and unthoughtful avoidddd!!!!
To all the negative comments: you guys can't be more unfair n ridiculous. I know that her exams are little hard for some ppl. But she's the most charismatic, passionate & nicest teacher I've ever had. She gave the joy in science back to me. Her teaching style is spectacular. Nobody gets out n says like Amanda rude!Pity those ppl doing so.
i took chem in high school and when i did my undergrad. failed both times and had to retake it both times...hated the subject so much. i took norick for 30a and now for 30b and she actually made me interested in the subject!! she's passionate, detailed and completely helpful. she knows every single one of her students, and knows each one of our str
This was one of the worst classes I've ever taken. She is so unorganized and overlaps everything! She would go over the second second midterm 2 weeks before we would even take the first midterm. She overlapped labs, midterms, and gives you piles of homework. She would go in your work and mark off points, even if your final answer is correct. AVOID!
I love her notes and her teaching style. She if very organized and helpful. Always willing to help during office hours. Xtremely nice n always smile =). As long as u follow the notes and lecture u will pass the class with an A. Midterms r well prepared by her. All u need to do is follow instruction n do the work. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
Incredibly cute professor. I haven't taken her class, but I've seriously considered dropping out of Organic Chemistry to do so.
LOVED THIS CLASS! and I did not like chem at all before. Tests are pretty basic. Extra credit is offered on all exams and the final and can easily be answered if you read the text. Other than that, lecture is clear about what is on the exams. She does TONS of examples so you should feel well prepared for anything. GO TO CLASS and you'll get an A!
I've taken chemistry multiple times at Foothill, once was with Norick. She literally counts down the seconds during tests, harsh grading, will keep you until the very end of classes and labs. She will lock you out of lab if you are not there on the dot when it starts. The textbook is awful and there is no time to learn the material before tests!!
I have taken both 30A and 30 B with Amanda, got A's in both. To all the negative comments on here, she is an amazing teacher. You need to ask for help if your struggling and she is more than willing to give it to you. Don't be so unfair to her, she is a tremendous asset to Foothill. I would recommend this class to everyone!
I did ask for help on many occasions, never missed a class. Chemistry is a hard subject and for most it's even more challenging on the quarter system. I even had testing accommodations and frequently went to the tutorial center. I did all that I could to pass but still couldn't. Not recommended if you have test anxiety, Norick will make it worse.
I LOVE AMANDA! If you don't get at least a B in her class then you're not paying enough attention. It is very clear what is going to be on the exams. Beware, however, that even though she's cute and sweet, she will not budge to help you pick up your slack! Do your own work and don't miss a class!
I was fortunate enough to have her for 30A and was even more lucky when i got to take her for 30B. Shes super passionate, organized and gives great study sheets. Do your mastering chem, read and take GOOD notes and you'll ACE the class. She may seem a bit strict, but we all need a little bit of discipline. She is caring, nice and considerate. EC!
She teaches EXTREMELY well. easy grader. always available to students.
I love Amanda ! best chem prof. ever .. i actually understood every chapter she teaches. as long as you pay attention in class, i assure u're going to do great in her class :D
She is an excellent teacher. We always know what is expected of us. The homework is harder than the tests. She is strict and sometimes has tricky questions on the test, but she's also very fair and often offers extra credit on the tests and homework.
She is a great teacher! She has high expectations, believes in your success and tells you exactly how to get there. If you are willing to do your work she'll always help you. She'll even often stay there after class if you can't come to office hours, too. She is a stickler for punctuality but that is probably needed for lab safety.
Amanda was an incredible professor. I've never had a more clear instructor in my life. She went over concepts multiple times and was extremely approachable if you had any questions or concerns. She kept to the point in her lectures and did not go off on tangents. One thing though, do NOT come late to lab! If you are even 10 seconds late for lab, she will not let you in, and you will lose credit for that lab. Amanda was very conservative, and you can tell respect is key with her--no texting!
Professor Amanda is really a great professor. She also very helpful. If you study hard, you will get a good grade on her exam. I absolutely want to take her again! Very recommended!!
Very organized and she makes it very clear what is expected of the students. Topic is hard, but she does a good job explaining stuff. I'm bummed she doesn't teach Chem 1B too, because I would definitely take her again.
Hands down the best chemistry teacher at Foothill. I had her for Chem 25 and 1A. You will enjoy her class very much if you take the class seriously and get to lab on time and not one minute late! Study hard and you will definitely get an A in her class. Also, she helps a lot during office hours and answers all your questions! Thanks Amanda
She is one of the best teacher's I have ever had! If you are serious about any healthcare field (especially nursing) then she is the teacher to take. It's chemistry! The grade is not going to be handed to you! It's college what did you expect!? She provides all the resources to succeed. Study and put in the effort and you will get an A!
She is the most amazing teacher I have ever had. with her I learned Chemistry. she is very clear and always willing to help you. exams are fair but final exam was hard. I wish she was teaching 1B. STRONGLY recommend her. love her
Great teacher for a difficult subject! Always around for office hours, structures her classes well while leaving time for questions. While lecture is not mandatory, it is highly recommended, and she does take attendance. Labs are mandatory, and one cannot be late to lab/prelab sessions. Amanda is extremely helpful to those who apply the
Amanda explains everything crystal clear with a smile on her face. She will explain your question until you get it. She goes through the lab before hand so you do not get lost in lab. She will answer any questions from the lab, hw, and the test. She wants to help you in order for you to pass the class and understand chemistry.
I have never taken a Chemistry class before and I have fallen in love! I found the subject matter very interesting and Amanda was a huge reason why I love chem so much now. She is clear helpful and fun! Amanda is big on respect (coming to class on time) so don't be late to lab...take this class u wont regret it.
Very clear and thorough. I would highly recommend taking her. It will take some work on your part though.
Very nice teacher. She gives study guides for test 1 and 2. Lab very easy. Online homework make sure to get A!!
Just study from her lecture notes, homeworks, and the sample exams. She is helpful and nice.
She was Not helpful and showed to me that she would not help. Plus, she refuse to make a correction on my exam even though she said it was correct. Don't take her, she changed.
I think that it is best to have other options of professors teaching this class. I did not like her kindergarten style of teaching. Sometimes she forgets to pass out articles to every student. Real problem. Go figure.
Good teacher but sometimes I feel like I'm in elementary school again with the way she teaches which, I guess, is good for some people. This class was ridiculously easy but I took this class just as a review. Recommended for those who have no background in Chem.
best teacher. she is very organized and everything is very purposeful. you can tell she puts a lot of effort into her teaching. tests arent easy but she gives you a old exam she used last quarter so its really straight forward no tricks. if you want to learn take it with her she is a great teacher. i took chem 30 b with her.
This was one of the best teachers I have had so far in my adult life. She was very organized. The class was not easy but if you listened and attended class you recieved all the material you needed to do well. I would take her again in a minute..
Here is the scoop with this professor. She will check only your partners lab, she will skip to pass you an article, and will not correct a problem that you got correct on an exam. Crystal clear lecture at the beginning but tend to be a little confusing in the mid quarter of the lecture. Best to choose another professor.
Best teacher I have ever had in my life. A must take. She is so organized and you can tell her job is important and she likes it. She is not easy but a great teacher if you show up and listen.
