TAKE THIS CLASS!! Extremely nice, very helpful, and very knowledgable. Power points are very clear and are posted every week. One easy paper. 4 fairly easy exams, lowest one is dropped. Tests are multiple choice, T/F and 1-4 short answers. All questions from power points maybe 1-2 from text. so just skim through the book. study guide given.
I loved her!! She's young and it was her first class. Too bad she's not coming back next semester or I would try and take her again! She made the class fun and was very helpful!
To start, she is too hot to be a professor, she's beautiful. Awesome Professor! Took her for abnormal psychology and learned a lot. Great Professor, good lectures and powerpoints, fast grader, and cares about her students. Recommend Professor Perry
She's a very sweet and positive person, but she isn't a good teacher. She's an easy grader but her lectures are fast paced. She often goes off on tangents and some of the information she even provided was false. She has random in-class assignments for participation points. She talks way too fast but you can get an A if you read the textbook.
Overall the class was easy, 3 exams, 1 final (she didn't make it cumulative in the end), 1 writing assignment, and a few small assignments here & there. She talks really fast, and spent some class periods off topic, tests are overall easy, emphasizes things that will be on the exams.
New teacher so her teaching teaching technique was off! She talks suuuuuuuper fast and gets side tracked. Random attendance for class points. if you want to do well on your tests do your study guide!! she drops your lowest test which helps a lot. 1 "opinion" paper but if she doesnt like your opinion then you're screwed.
Only 5 people passed the midterm (everyone else got a D/F). Clearly she's not doing a good job teaching but when we would suggest doing something differently that might help, she cut you off & wouldn't let you finish. She then began to challenge other students to teach the class. Sooo unprofessional & immature for a teacher! Don't take her.
My first impression was that she was energetic and pleasant person. But after EVERYONE got less than a C on the midterm, she refused to admit the test was too hard and blamed our lack of effort. As a student who tries really hard and is diligent to keep up with homework and reading, I found it very insulting and discouraging. Would not recommend
You are graded harshly on your grammar(ironically her own grammar is terrible)not exactly on your effort. She is unprofessional and biased in her lectures(and grading).book is only mandatory b/c she will put 1-3 statistical questions on the tests that is never discussed in her lectures, but only in the book (book is pricey. At least she gave candy.
In summer, your grade is based on a midterm, final, 2 short papers, & class participation points. Tests are straight from the book & lecture, but contain a few questions with two correct answers & the answer that is MORE right in HER opinion is the only correct one (even if both were said to be correct in lecture). Same with the papers.
took her psych 110 class last semester and I felt that she was very helpful and definitely wants her students to succeed. It was her first time teaching 110 but she knows what she's talking about and is well prepared. Her exams are easy if you study and her lectures are interesting for the most part.
I took her Psychology 110 class this Fall 2014 semester. Her class is extremely easy. Lectures are clear and precise. The exams are easy if you study. Her assignments are four introspections and two essays and a critical paper. There were four exams including the final. Overall her class is enjoyable and an easy A!
I am giving her a bad rating because of the way she graded my final paper which brought me down to a B+. When I confronted her about the grade she couldn't tell me what she had taken points off for. Which was frustrating because then I couldn't challenge the grade she had given me. My format was correct and I had hardly any grammatical errors.
DO NOT TAKE AMANDA PERRY. Her exams are outrageous. They are extremely ambiguous. I have taken multiple psych and child development classes and still struggled because of her exams. She does not care for her students and if they pass or not. AWFUL.
Yes her exam questions are ridiculous. Have to memorize every sentence in the chapter to get an A. She cannot teach nor does she seem like she has a passion for teaching at all. She says in one place during class reading off a piece of paper varying her tone from time to time. Ends class 15 min. early bec we are "tired" more like she wants to leave
Very easy class and teacher. She's pretty clear about everything and lectures are straightforward. 3 tests, 2 short concept papers, some in class activities, and a movie review. She explains things well and gives good examples.
Her tests didn't reflect her teaching style at all. You will have a hard time getting an A because you don't get a lot of opportunities to do better. no extra credit or clear instructions for paper. She looked like she gave up on our class and teaching. I didn't learn anything from her directly, just from the textbook. Recommend someone else!
Don't take. Sheis outrageous when it comes to grading the two required papers. Her instructions for the papers were not substantial enough for her students to earn decent grades. In fact the only instructions were to write your name and course number in the top left corner. Got B's on all her tests, but papers brought my final grade down to a D.
She barely knows the material she lectures. All she did was read off her paper and power points. She didn't contribute anything else to the lecture. Her power points are confusing and her tests are too ambiguous for the subject. Her essays requirements are too broad to get good grades on. Don't take this class from her!!
I've taken her before for psych 120, so I was a little more prepared for her essay criteria -- she's strict. Her class isn't that hard otherwise(though her lectures go fast), and the tests are usually difficult but not impossible if you've payed attention. If you get a class that likes discussion it's fun because she gets off topic easy.
Honestly confused by the previous reviews and im a pretty tough critic. My guess is she has done some work on her teaching since then. She was passionate and knew her stuff. Also made class fun. Lectures are a little fast and she's pretty specific on essays but i'm grateful I took her class and will definitely be taking her again!
Not into teaching. Brings Powerpoint lectures and reads off the slides. Ends class early "for us", when it's obviously for her as she rushes us out 30-45 min before our class is over. Does not explain grading on essays. Spare yourself the confusion and go with another professor for this course.
Make sure you don't go off her study guides, they don't match her power points. Nice teacher but talks about herself a lot. Doesn't respond to emails and takes forever to grade papers. Class not mandatory but it kinda is because she offers "class points". You definitely need the book for clarity, she doesn't know anything. She just reads her notes
She was a wonderful professor, who helped bring the material to life. She grades papers harshly, but as long as you proof read you are fine. Gives out study guides and plays jeopardy before exams to help review the material. Tests aren't hard either, I studied directly from the study guide and did well on all the exams. Relateable and approachable
Her lectures aren't boring because she has a sense of humor. Her grading criteria is clear and she's easily approachable. For this class, I read the book and mostly studied off there.
She doesn't even give proper feedback for papers so you're still not sure how to write the second one. She is NOT approachable - maybe to some that she likes. She reads off the textbook so what is the point of having a professor? Not recommended.
Worst professor I've ever had. Her directions are so unclear and she marks you down for not including things she never asked for, word document auto formatting to slightly more than double space or if you put a title on your paper. exams all have right answers and you have to guess which one is right in her opinion. If used to getting A's you wont.
Honestly, I'm not sure what all the comments are about. She's great! She's caring, to the point where I told her I was having a hard time with my mental health and she gave me the resources I needed. Her lectures are straightforward, and everything you need for the test is learned in class. She has in-class assignments, but not very many. Chill.
An amazing professor who expects a lot out of her students (and rightfully so) READ/FOLLOW HER DIRECTIONS TO THE T. The exams are based off the lectures, so take good notes. Her papers require you to think critically and write at a college level. You're expected to know the material well enough to apply it. Don't take this class for an easy A.
Show up to class & take good notes. Tests are based on the lecture + she takes attendance through class exercises. Her tests are not impossible, you just need to study, which is obvi. She's a bit picky w/ the essays, she's not 100% clear in her directions, so getting 100% seems difficult. & her personality is awesome!!! Will take her again.
Overall a pretty good professor. The only thing I could complain about was that her grading criteria for hw wasn't always clear. She will take points off of criteria she creates after grading. Otherwise, she had a great personality especially for a morning class. The class is pretty straight forward, take good notes and study for a good grade.
Your grade is composed of Participation, 1 personality collage, 2 papers (each will be no more than 2 pages long) and about 4 exams. If you actually want to learn, take professor Perry. In order to receive an A, you'll have to take good notes, attend lecture, read the textbook and FOLLOW her instructions carefully when writing the papers.
She is funny, her lectures are interesting and she will make you get to know your peers. Participation and attendance matter, but you'll find yourself wanting to show up to her class. You will have to write a lot of papers, and she grades them like she invented grammar and syntax. If you are not a strong writer, this class is not for you.
Felt like a high school class. Other than that her teaching style was okay. There's 2 papers, 3 tests and 1 cumulative final, and pop quizzes that count as participation points. She was okay overall, but felt like she didnt take her class that seriously.
One of the best professors I had ever taken at CSUF. She talks really fast but really cares about her students. Show up, have fun, study lectures, and do homework and you will be fine. Wish I would have found her as a professor sooner!
Young, friendly teacher who listens and gives feedback to students. Open discussions in class. She cares more about understanding the concepts rather than pure memorization. Do the study guides, take notes, attend class and you will be fine. Excited to take her again in the fall.
Expectations are very high for a mediocre style of teaching. She provides power point slides that do not match hers which will confuse you. Also, the study guides are not very helpful. She reads off of the power points to lecture, which makes it seem like she is only familiar with the material by memorization.
NO. Just no. She doesn't post the power points online. She talks way to fast to keep up. The worst part is the study guide DOES NOT HELP you study. I haven't seen anything on the study guide be on the tests. The syllabus dates with assignments change so often they are irrelevant. She makes the class up as she goes. Seems sweet but she turns.
- Did not appear prepared - All the tests based on notes taken in class - Never posts lecture notes online - Did not teach material well - reading the notes is what it mostly comes down to
Study guides have nothing to do with the tests!, she is pretty fast and does not post lecture notes online. Perhaps the best way to prepare for exams is to read the text book! good luck with that.
Many slides she lectures from in class are not even included in the Power Point, which makes it difficult to follow along, especially because she goes too fast. I went to her office hours for help, she told me my paper was great and gave me a C. Exams are difficult and do not match study guide. She is discouraging, and acts superior to students.
Didn't prepare well enough for exams to the point that we were surprised one was coming up b/c so little material had been covered. Said she wouldn't test on material outside of powerpoints but then did. Would lecture for less than an hour. Never gave feedback on papers and didn't want to deal with questions about homework until weeks later.
Easy A, feels more like a high school class. I wish she would stick to subject material rather than rambling. Does not have PowerPoints online, so take notes. She can be pretty funny but has a tendency to interrupt students and can be rude in the name of being "sarcastic" without actually being sarcastic or funny, which is kind of annoying.
Hands down the best Psych professor I have ever had. Her lectures are very discussion-based to show how much the class relates to our lives. She is an extremely hard grader on papers, but her feedback is constructive and helpful. She is so passionate about psychology and emphasizes how important it is to be educated on the subject. Changed my life.
Really inconsiderate of students' time, allows tons of wasted time in class in the form of personal stories and then rushes through the actual material at warp speed because she spent the whole class talking about herself. Lecture is shockingly light, but then the tests are shockingly difficult. Take whatever notes she gives, read the book.
I thought this class would be easier. PowerPoint lectures are not posted so you have to take notes in class. Has 2 major written paper assignments. Extra credit if you are part of Psych research on campus. If you are looking for an elective or extra class that seems interesting then do not take this professor you'll have to really study material.
she talks super fast! there are no power points online so take notes. if you miss a class make sure you get notes from another student, her tests are based on notes/lectures. other than that, it is a passable class. she's really funny!
Professor Perry is a fair grader who takes her job seriously without being uptight. She cares about her students and the subjects he teaches. She wasn't my favorite professor but I definitely think she is worth taking at least once.
This class was definitely challenging. Professor Perry is very smart, and she knows what she is doing. However, she is extremely hard at grading papers. We had 3 tests and 1 paper and pop quizzes. The tests and pop quizzes are hard because they include information she did not teach. So, if you the whole book. You never know what she will test on.
Grading based on 4 exams (cumulative final), collage, theory paper, & class points. No posted powerpoints, you must pay close attention and take good notes. Tests are hard & you really need to know the concepts / theories and how to apply them. Attendance not mandatory but you'll miss a ton if you don't go to class. Funny professor & is relatable.
the person below is tripping, she is not a 4 she is a strong 1! She grades papers ridiculously, she tries to act quirky and cool but she is a lame duck, honestly she is not your friend, She has credible exp inthe field and is way too emotional in class. I saw a student tell her off during the final it was hilarious she was in the brink of tears.
Amazing teacher. Very interactive. Really connects with her students. With that said she is a very hard grader. There were two writing assignments in the class and both of them I got 35/50 on because I used too many contractions. She doesn't take attendance but down in class activities that you get participation points for. Be prepared to work!
I had her at MT SAC and she has 3 tests, 2 papers, thats it. If you do bad on one of these you have to hope you do amazing on the others. Her tests are very specific and the grading is unnessecarily hard on the papers.
The person who gave her a good score below got a C so that shoukd tell you what type of people apprive of her. This class is bs and she has an opinion abput everything and is ready to correct you for minor things you may say, she does try to act all quirky and young which is so annoying. Be prepared for bs papera which she grades with her eyes clos
I felt like I really learned nothing in her class. She really gives the most basic, obvious information about the subject that you could easily find online. She seemed stretched really thin, never starting or ending class at exactly the same time each week, seemed scatter brained during lecture and like she was just winging it. What a shame.
When in lecture it seems as if she doesn't really know what she's talking about. She regurgitates the same simple words she puts on the slides but just rewords them. This class is more of a teach yourself type of thing, don't depend on her because it might not be accurate info. Might as well have been an online class instead of lecture.
She is a tough grader on hw and the paper. Make sure you ask her to check your homework before you turn it in. She is really nitpicky about hw. It felt like she picked one or two subjects and made up like 30 questions about them on the first two exams. Go to the review session for a few exam questions. Very fast talker and spazzy. Gets off topic.
If you want to pass the class: read the chapters bcs lectures are very vague and she goes out of topic. Make sure to ask Qs about HW and ask to clarify anything that is not clear even if she get annoyed. Print out lectures before class to take notes. 2 midterms and 1 final cumulative. 1 paper. Attendance N-mandatory but necessary Read, read, read.
Took this class at FC. Basically, your whole grade is based on exams and one paper except if you ask for extra credit Exams are easy only if you read the book as well and take clear notes. Powerpoints are not posted online so keep that in mind. What screws you over is the paper, grades tough.
Class taken at FJC. She seems like a sweet person and was funny, but as another review mentioned, she always seemed stressed and unprepared. Lecture with PowerPoint slides (which are quickly gone through and NOT available anywhere but in class, so write fast!). Tests were easy with studying, grade relies almost entirely on tests and final paper.
She has no idea what she is saying and can not stay on topic. Everyone finds her stories funny but I came for the slides not hour long stories. I am teaching myself in this class and she just doesn't know how to teach. I dread going to this class every time. I always bring extra stuff to do.
Tough and unkind. She literally tells us she dont care if we pass or not. Seems miserable and unmotivated. Gives F grade for well written papers.
Aweful! Her materials are common sense; you can learn them all yourself. Do not take her class at all. She grades ridiculously and perhaps, grades your work with personal biases. Just aweful! She seriously has some psychological issues that she needs to resolve.
she is one of the best professors by far. She is not the easiest and she may go off on tangents and has a strict grading system which drove me crazy for most of the semester. If you're looking for an easy A then this is not for you, BUT if you work your ass off and show her that you truly care then you will get a good grade in the class.
Prof Perry is amazing. She's caring and has inspired me a lot. She has her flaws, but her classes are entertaining. I took her twice and studied a lot to be able to get A's. It's not easy, but if I can do it, so can you. She has an amazing personality and gives off good vibes. Take her if you're willing for a fun challenge.
Professor Perry is a good teacher. Her tests are not difficult, but I think a lot of students go into the exams thinking it's all common sense and so they do not study. Do the work and study well. There is no reason why you can't do well in her class as long as you make an effort.
There are 3 exams and 1 final. The final is cumulative. There are two papers and she grades strictly on them. It's hard to get an A for her papers!!! However, her lectures are structured/organized and interesting. You have to show up to class to view her PowerPoints and take notes because she doesn't post them online.
Honestly would not recommend unless you're up for a challenge. does not go by the syllabus and will ignore your emails. the student-teacher is more helpful, so make sure to utilize her. overall, Perry grades papers extremely hard and is not on top of things. SUPER lecture heavy, so do not skip class. does not care if students pass or fail.
350 Characters are not enough to describe this professor. I will tell you straight up that there is a reason why she has such a low rating. If you take her for credit just wait another semester to take a respected professor. There are no tags to describe her, I just never had a professor like her. You need to apply yourself if you take this class.
Amanda Perry is an amazing prof. I had her for critical thinking, and she is super witty. She is super specific on following APA format and using correct grammar, so just be aware. If you respect her, she will do the same for you. I would take her again, especially if you are a psych major! ultimately one of the best profs I have had.
The class is passable if you take thorough lecture notes & skim the book. Write down LITERALLY everything said in lecture. Take notes of the videos she shows in class, there will be questions on the exams referencing them. The paper is not difficult, answer all the prompt questions, & you should get a passing grade. Not an easy class but enjoyable
She is such a cool professor. She is test heavy, but I feel like she does a good job teaching the material. One of my favorite professors I have had in psych
Probably one of the worst professors I've ever had, she doesn't follow the syllabus, she'll add assignments last min with little notice, her study guides are pointless because the quiz is completely opposite! She's not engaging, I felt like the student aid taught more than the professor, and even then your teaching yourself!
I took her online class and basically taught myself all the material, she has one lecture at a random time and doesn't even post the zoom recording, and then she won't provide PowerPoint to study, the study guide doesn't correspond to quizzes, so you better off reading the chapter, the student aid was a better instructor!
Professor Perry was such a good choice during these times. She does give quizzes every week but those are based off lecture. You have go pat attention A LOT during lecture because everything is on the quiz but shes not hard at all. Shes willing to go over anything during office hours.
Professor Perry was very organized and had clear expectations for us in the class. Class mostly comprised of weekly quizzes and fairly easy homework assignments. Holds lecture and records it for later use to look back on. No Proctorio and only one actual exam (final). Hilarious personality and interesting class, take her!
I read the reviews for Professor Perry. I went in having expectations that she was a very difficult professor. That couldn't be further from the truth. She is one of the nicest and most helpful professors. She was incredibly understanding and caring especially during office hours. The class IS difficult due to the content, but Perry is GREAT!
Alright, so I'm not trying to complain too much because I got a B, but I really really disliked this class. Her weekly quizzes, which are basically your main source of points, are SO HARD. This was rude and made me feel dumb even though I knew the info. Get feedback on papers from the TA's this is a must
Organized and very interesting. She has difficult quizzes so make sure you use the study guide to take detailed notes. Her papers have clear grading criteria but still can be tricky to get a high score (use your TAs). You have to put in time and work to get a good grade but the material is so interesting that it's worth it. Gives extra credit.
Professor Perry talks super fast and her quizzes are entirely based off of what she says in her lectures so good luck with that. She seems extremely rude and not helpful at all. She doesn't seem to care whether you pass or fail, & SHE'S AN EXTREMELY HARD GRADER. Save yourself and take another professor. If you do decide to take her, brace yourself.
one of the best professors I've had. Taking her in the pandemic, it was all online. The lectures are live but get loaded, I watched on my own time (1.5 hours once a week). 98% of quiz answers come from lecture, just write down EVERYTHING she says. Weekly quiz and assignment. 2 papers, very easy, they are application papers off theorists
Clear on grading/expectations from the start. She does not try and trick you on quizzes or exams. Yes you MUST pay attention and take lecture notes but she actually teaches you the material in a relatable way plus the quizzes are made up mostly of lecture info. She is doesnt make it easy but she doesnt make it impossible, best Professor I have had.
She is very down to earth and keeps it real. Has clear grading criteria. Just pay attention and literally write everything down from lecture and you'll pass.
Weekly quizzes but if you write good notes on her weekly lectures its not bad at all. Was extremely interesting to hear lecture and would take her again! TAs were extremely helpful through the tough-ish grading. Not too easy nor not too hard of a class. Lots of info but super interesting!
I loved professor Perry! She is so knowledgable not only about the class but also for grad school. Her live lectures had a lot of content and taking good notes was important. The lectures get recorded and uploaded. There are weekly quizzes and a few assignments here and there. There's 2 very easy application papers. I'd take her again!!
I took her online psych class here at Fullerton College JC. Your grade is determined by mainly easy quizzes and discussions. Only two small short papers which I thought were easy, but then she gave me C's on both when I'm usually an A+ student, so she's trippin. No need to attend zoom, she posts the recordings. No textbook needed, waste of money.
Professor Perry is a great teacher and she's funny! I've taken her for several classes and I appreciate that her coursework is organized, accessible and clear. You definitely have to work for your grade and use critical thinking in her classes. Watch lectures, read the material and study for the exams and you'll be fine.
Professor Perry is an amazing psychology professor. She does an excellent job at explaining things and she is hilarious. I have learned so much from taking her class and if I was a psychology major, I would take more of her classes. Take good notes and write down everything she says. Her quizzes are based off her lectures
Prof is the best, such a fun class. I learned a lot about the disorders and was able to apply them to her assignments properly because the lectures have all the info you need. All the modules have a quiz which is based of the lecture and any outside material she posts. The discussions are easy points and papers follow the rubric and should get an A
her exams and quizzes are kinda hard ngl, thought did good but no. you have daily discussion boards, and a group project. but this class was online she did made us show up for zoom discussions for grade which was frustrating bc i took it to not attend any lectures bc of work but had to call off to attend her meetings. final exam is cumulative btw
Content was good, prof was eh. There are weekly quizzes that she gives 12 mins to complete for 10 Q's. 2-3 papers in which she does not give directions other than to keep it "concise" and I'm usually an A writer and I got B's-C's. She deletes her zoom lectures after 2 weeks despite the course being lecture heavy. Only 1 exam which was 45min.
She is CLEAR on expectations/grading, gives DETAILED lectures, CLEAR on procedures, & is VERY organized. She doesn't hand out grades & you are expected to do some work, DUH! Exams/quizzes are timed/structured so you cannot easily cheat online, content DIRECT from lectures. READ THE SYLLABUS & GUIDELINES! She makes everything SO STINKING CLEAR!
I took this professor for 3 different classes, I like her teaching style a lot. Pay attention to lectures and take lots of notes to do good on weekly quizzes. One cumulative final, not extremely difficult, discussion boards are about interesting topics and easy. Would take her again
Great lectures, covers material well. Makes learning material fun/relatable. Clear grading criteria, she often reminds us to read rubrics. I passed w/o reading. Attend lectures & take good notes. Talks fast but repeats IF ASKED. Lots of little assign. which gives you a better chance to do well. Weekly quizzes & discuss. posts, 2 papers, & 1 final.
Prof Perry is really chill, idk what these negative ratings are about. She makes material easy to digest. Yes theres weekly quizzes but ALL of the answers are in the lecture. If you just watch it on 2x speed and take minimal notes you'll be set for the quiz, only takes 30 mins. I took her class online though so maybe it's more difficult in person?
She was amazing, made her lectures FUN! Take her whenever you can, she cares about her students and is passionate about what she teaches!
I really liked my personality class, the lectures weren't too long and her quizzes were more applied than just knowing definitions. If you really take good notes on lectures and watch her supplemental videos you will do fine in her course!
Professor Perry is super entertaining and I enjoyed her lectures. The discussions in my human sexual behavior class were super fascinating too !
I had professor Perry for two classes in Fall 22 and I adored her. She was not only funny and caring but her lectures were always teaching me something. She is a big factor as in why I am a psychology major now. She is a very flexible professor and is very understanding. She does have weekly quizzes in this class but manageable if you go to class.
Take notes in class and I am sure you will pass the class. She 100% knows what she is teaching and I will for sure take her again. She is very flexible and approachable which is why I respect her. Exams can be tough but just make sure to go to class and you will be okay. Her lectures are great and very real. Take her class!
It is an interesting class. Her humor is one to get used to; it can seem rude but she doesn't truly mean it that way. The main book she uses is a bit hypocritical (preaching don't judge or generalize, then complains about Gen Z and believes stereotypes) but the lectures are entertaining. Overall, you'll enjoy the class, but I am happy being done.
Her testing technique is horrible bc gives minimal time to type essay answers. Doesn't let you navigate back & forth. Even if you understand material, her exam formats will likely drop your grade. She's not understanding and unwilling to budge despite her students struggling. Worst experience at CSUF. A's and B's in all of my classes BUT this one.
Don't take her. Not willing to listen to your opinions if it doesn't matches her. Randomly takes attendance worth 100 pts. Talks too much about her personal life. Her TA's grade your assignments, but she will randomly grade. Lectures/readings does not help for quizzes. Absolutely bias. Instead do yourself a favor and take Dr. Tara instead!!
Professor Perry is an overall nice professor, many of her online lectures are interesting. But warning if you are a slow reader and struggle with timed exams, you may want to reconsider taking her course. Even though I composed a ton of notes during the lectures, it's currently one of the hardest courses I've taken. Also has a cumulative final.
Do not let the reviews scare you. She really isn't that bad. Her grading criteria and deadlines are clear. Read the book, study hard, pay attention, come to class, take notes, and you will be fine. She knows her stuff and will help you if you reach out.
Her courses seemed rushed and neglected. She states multiple times in the course that she lectures other courses on the CSUF campus and at another local college. Classes are rushed, her notes are confusing to formulate, and she is frequently late to her own lectures. I love personality psychology but she made it seem like a shallow topic.
She is a very tough grader and when you ask for feedback it is very general. The tests have such a short time restriction that you really don't have time to think about your answer or sometimes even finish your exams. Definitely made the class tougher than it needed to be.
This was one of my favorite professors! She made my last semester worth while. It is important to go to the classes because the tests are based on what is discussed in the lectures. She made the class super interesting so it was not difficult to come to class.
She conducts the course like a graduate course but doesn't deliver graduate course service. Certain assignments are vague in explanation and her lectures are just ok. I learned on the course discord that another student received 30/30 on their paper, even after submitting it late. I received a lesser grade and submitted on time with little feedback
AVOID HER IF YOU CAN! shes super rude and randomly goes off on students. kicked us out of the class with NO explanation and when asked why she raised her voice and got more upset. she definitely suffers from sort of mood disorder clearly. if ur opinion disagrees with hers dont even bother taking this class. students didnt feel comfortable sharing.
Some people don't love her, which makes sense because she very much speaks her opinion and will be intense about it, which comes off wrong sometimes. But, she is never rude or offensive and those who didn't like her have likely been called out about their behavior. PSY312 is a fantastic and important class, definitely take it with her.
Love her! Would definitely take again! She is very straightforward with her expectations & accessible in office hours/ after class. Exams are written/ essay style. you must study & understand the theories well! she does not post lectures, you're responsible for taking your own notes, so come to class. If you put in the work you will do well!
Her lectures do NOT follow or help what is on her exams. She scares you to come in to class each time but never took attendance only just for major personality tests taken in class. Grading criteria is B+ for pre-grad credit and a C to just "pass." Basically told us to read the book and not rely solely on her ppt's and study guide for help. Awful.
AVOID!!! All assignments are done online before class. In class all you do is discuss the topics and if you are on your laptop or phone she will go off on you. Students did not feel comfortable speaking up in class bc the professor will verbally attack you if you say the wrong thing. The professor is passionate but scary and unwelcoming.
After the first exam, she said that we needed a reality check and that she did not know whether we needed a hug or if we needed her to yell at us to realize we needed to change. There is no rubric given, just her justification. I took another class that was a 400 where we were studying the same people and I passed that one but not her class.
Don't. Just Don't.
Good and interesting lectures/assignments, but exams were terrible. Need to be a VERY good test taker to pass. Never gave specific feedback for writing
This is 4 PSYC495! She was accessible outside of class ONLY on mon-fri. She docked me pts for something that was not under my control. She was an easy grader for assignments. lets students submit late but 1 pt deduct each day. she wants you to pass 495 so that you can graduate. She is a prof that is not on my top list of prof recommendations
NOT recommended.
Cumulative Final was not returned and a major portion of grade. I was at A level range and went down to a B due to lack of preparedness for final however I am unsure what I got wrong. She states clearly in syllabus that she would not be contacted after final and grade could not be negotiated. Get GOOD partners for a major group assignment!!
She's sweet and funny; however her lectures are heavy, and she talks about a lot of things. You genuinely have to know what she's teaching or the exams will drop your grade. Study guides aren't helpful & look nothing like the exam. 3 assessments (freebie points), 6 discussions & 5 hw assignments (all done during the first month of the semester)
Took for PSYC456–amazing professor. Lecture heavy, but easy material to go through. Tests offer partial credit for missed answers, and weekly assignments are short. Highly recommend; discusses important topics and is a fair grader.
The professor can be intense and dismissive of opposing views. However, the material is valuable. Engaging with the course structure and using study aids like unstuckstudy can help overcome the challenges. Be ready for a rigorous but potentially rewarding experience.
My experience with Perry has been less than ideal. While they're knowledgeable in their field, they seem unwilling to consider other perspectives/ideas that differ from their's. Interactions can feel overly critical yet they completely dismissed a certain group's experiences. Careful on partners w group proj. u're graded as a group not individually
Cool professor, very good at teaching. I learned lots However, she is a CRAZY harsh grader with very unclear grading criteria. I would follow directions and even went to office hours after gettin Cs, still no clear criteria. I'm on the deans list and have straight A's aside from her! No study guides. Just frustrating, so much work for nothing!
I hope this helps a future student, JUST DONT PLEASE DONT, test are all on paper, she is weird and talks about her gay lifestyle she e says "babies are born with no gender" I hope administration reads this she is the worst professor on campus and needs to be demoted limitedly!!!
A very easy and informative class when she actually stays objective and doesn't get into her own personal beliefs. Talks so much about her "gay lifestyle" and trauma dumps every class making it about her and not actually teaching. Her weird takes such as forcing her opinion that babies are nonbinary at birth distract from the actual good material.
Avoid avoid avoid. Tries too hard to show off what she knows. If she's the only one that offers the course you need, take a gap semester and take it later.
Graded off Canvas lectures, group project, reflections, and cumulative final. Lectures are interesting but they are opinion based so sometimes the same students talk every class. Overall not bad, just boring and wouldn't take again.
I wouldnt take again personally, she one of the lazier professors I've had (doesn't know own material, there were many questions she couldn't or wouldn't directly answer) I feel she also makes it hard for ppl to speak up, and is overall stubborn and shows biased material. even if I agree with most, I don't want a one sided education. kinda boring
Amanda Perry is genuinely one of the rudest professors I've had. When it came to discussing difference of opinion regarding topics presented in class, often times she would become defensive and dismissive of other stances that are different from her own. You will have a group assignment that you will receive a grade on based on the group alone.
DO NOT take this professor online. Her tests are difficult, and the time allowed is only an hour and 15 minutes, but on the day of the cumulative final, only an hour was permitted. If this were a real classroom, we would get the entire time for a final. She doesn't give feedback on tests.
ABSOLUTELY TAKE HER CLASS!!! She is incredible- she's very understanding and absolutely hilarious. Her class will challenge you in the best ways. Perry is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about her classes. It's evident she cares for her students and genuinely wants us to succeed. You'll have to work hard and show you care, but she's great!!
I never really give ratings, but this class literally gave me a headache. Her grading criteria are harsh and don't make sense. Her tests make you work under pressure for no reason because she only gives you an hour to read extremely long vignettes. I don't get her teaching style. As an A student, I struggled, and her tests gave me anxiety. Avoid.
Professor Perry does her best to make the class interesting. It is purely lecture based, however, all of her lectures are posted on canvas and you must watch them before class that week. Overall, her class is super easy. One thing to note is that she tries not to be political but definitely can be, and it is obviously one-sided.
Honestly I don't know, this class is so useless to take with her because she makes you learn all the material before you go to class which is pretty much things everyone knows already. After that you go to class and she's only asking us questions so if you really don't participate the class is useless and she's really biased with her views.
I took Professor Perry for PSYC 312 and PSYC 495 and I definitely prefer her for PSYC 495. Her instructions are very clear and there is not a lot of work but she gives you plenty of time to complete them. It's mostly reflections, journals, and other activities based on your internship. Very chill professor for PSYC 495 specifically.
It was literally just meh. You learned everything content-wise from lectures posted on canvas before class, and then class was just opinion based discussion about the lectures. She was definitely biased and the same few students spoke everytime. Overall boring but the content itself wasn't. Also her grading makes no sense.
It's mediocre at best. Lectures are fully online and easy to understand. "One page requirement," but you can write 4 pages on the topic and still be told it's not descriptive enough. Promotes open-mindedness but lacks in practice. Easy A if you show up, but don't try to change their mind
