She was alright. Her lectures are horrible, but she grades easy on speeches. 3 main speeches, and a few little ones. Weren't too bad but she doens't help at all with nerves, doesn't give advice for that.I have a HUGE fear of public speaking, but it wasn't terrible. I got an A. Extra credit given, easy online quizzes, open book,ALL answers on google
SUPER EASY! AWESOME TEACHER! take this teacher if you can!
I was really nervous for this class, but Mrs. P helped me a lot. She is willing to stay after class to talk over things like nerves or assignments. Make sure you turn stuff in on time cuz she doesn't take late work. The class seems really easy cuz she tells you exactly what to do not like some teachers who give bad grades for no reason. TAKE HER!
She is good teacher but at times not very clear with some of the assignments. She is wishy washy(moody at times)I would recommend her.
Shes nice and helpful. Very easy A class. Speeches are easy and she is an easy grader too
Easy teacher, grades easy on speeches but horrible with her lectures. I would have to say she is the best speech teacher to take.
She is very helpful and understanding. All you have to do is come to class and pay attention. She tells you all you need to know to pass the class. I passed her class with an A. I highly recommend her.
She is an amazing teacher. She makes you very interested in the class. I recommend her to anyone taking Com103, interested in writing or not!
She's lenient with grading speeches, but if you don't do the online quizzes, you're screwed.
Easy grader when it comes to speeches. The lectures that she gives are really boring, but otherwise that I she's a easy person to have as a teacher. You do online quizzes to know the material, which are easy points. You also have a lot of time to prepare your speeches. Overall, she's a good teacher to have
Great Teacher! Assignments are super easy. Makes class enjoyable. If you think public speaking is hard, TAKE HER!!
She made public speaking so easy. I never thought I'd do as well as I did talking to people like that. She is really good at what she does and honestly, if your shy and nervous to take this class, don't be as long as she's your professor.
Awesome and sweet teacher. She was so nice and made speech in a way too easy. She taught the subject knowingly and well.
I had a set of online questions I had to do for each chapter you have to do. We had three major speeches and a hand fill of small, easy speeches. She is a stickler for time so me being a talker didn't always do so good on the speeches. She is friendly. You really have to stay on top of yourself if you want to pass with a A. You only get 2 absents.
Professor Pettigrew is a really nice person always there to help if you need it, made speech class simple .
Mrs. Pettigrew was really clear in what she expected and not a hard grader at all. You definitely need to attend class to know what is going on. Her lectures are kind of boring, but make sure to pay attention because you will need all that information for the final. I would definitely recommend taking her class.
Shes very specific in what she wants for your speeches and lets you know that. She stayed 30 minutes after class to help me with one of my speeches. definitely do the online quizzes, they're sooo easy just time consuming.
Mrs. Pettigrew is amazing, she is very informative, she is a great teacher. I wish that she taught different classes. You will learn a lot in this class. I sad that it is over.
I love Ms. Pettigrew!! She is such a great teacher and she will make you feel welcomed in her class. If you're nervous about public speaking (most people are so don't feel like you're the only one), she will make you feel confident!! Take her, you won't regret it!!
She isn't a bad teacher but she is very bad at replying to emails. I've had a lot of questions since I am taking this class online that she hasn't gotten back to about and then I get points off because of the question I had could of been resolved and given me those points.
3 mini speeches, 3 major speeches. She makes you feel so comfortable presenting and she is such an easy grader. She connects with the class so well, she makes you feel like your best friends. Take her! she's the best, lots of extra credit so there is no way you can not have an A
GREAT teacher! I was very nervious about having to take a speech class but she made it so easy. her class is very chill and she makes you feel very comfortable. she is very funny and class is never boring. she really cares about her students. pluse she is a easy grader highly recommend talking her class.
Toke this class online, and it was a real pleasure having Professor Pettigrew as my teacher.
she is really nice! cares a lot for her students and will do her best to make you feel comfortable speaking! easy class, take her, you won't regret it
Ms. Pettigrew was an amazing teacher. She's clear on what she expects out of you and really tries to prepare you for public speaking. She's on stickler on turning things in when their due, but who isn't? I would definitely recommend taking her class.
I took Com 103, speech with her. Honestly the most nice professor you'll ever have. The work load isn't bad at all. Most of the work is explained thoroughly in class. Made public speaking very comfortable! This is the best Com 103 professor you could ever have!
Public speaking is scary sometimes, but Ms. Pettigrew made it fun & easy! She's so nice & she's very clear on what she looks for in the speeches and really helps you prepare for them. I like how she doesn't expect you to be perfect in your speech but still wants you to grow and expand your public speaking skills. I totally recommend her for com 103
While many people may not like public speaking, Ms. Pettigrew makes it really fun. She just wants her students to succeed and helps as much as she can. If you're nervous about speaking in public or just want a really fun, relatable professor, take her! 3 major speeches, 3 mini speeches and that's it.
- Teacher is AMAZING! -The most organized online class I have ever taken. -Everything is detailed to perfection. -There are many assignments but these help bump up your grade. - She responds quickly to messages and emails. - I always look on here when choosing classs/teachers and I am SO glad I chose this class.
Ms. Pettigrew is very nice and outgoing! She makes her class fun and interesting. If you're nervous about speaking in front of a crowd, she will make you enjoy it! You will not regret taking her class
I took her speech class online and it was pretty easy. The homework assignments through the online book were incredibly easy, it doesn't allow you to finish the assignment unless you've answered the questions right and they are all multiple choice, so... Speeches were easy and the requirements are clear.
I am not a public speaker and I hate to speak in public but with Ms. Amanda, I feel it was an easy class. She is so kind and at the same time she cares for her students, therefore, cares about canvas a lot, updated on the grades, helpful and gives chances in speech. Understanding in all cases. And an easy A with her, just do the work asked.
Good teacher but dont bother emailing her because she will not respond. Overall good and easy class
I don't think you can take a better speech teacher than her. I took her three week class over the summer and she made it bearable. She's caring and is an easy grader. I'm horrible at speeches and I've gotten an A on every one. Just make sure to do the online assignments and to have your speech fit within the required timeframe. Take her!
oh my gosh i was so scary to take this 3 week course, but she was so positive and gives my a positive vibes always. she is great and i recommend her for this course. i wish i can take this course for ever.
Make sure to have a live audience in your videos if you're doing this class online. You need to have at LEAST 5 people or else you get 40pts deducted from your grade, so it doesn't even matter if you did well or not if you don't have other people in your speech.
Instructions are not clear on all assignments
Easy A, take speech online if you have social anxiety or fear of public speaking. You record all the speeches online, and theres only 4. If you do all the work youll get an A for sure, just remeber to follow the criteria for speeches.
Does not reply to emails, does not allow make up work, she was late to our class everyday and brought her kid to class which was distracting, and she is not very clear with instructions. Also it does not matter if you get A's on all your speeches if you don't do all the homework you wont be happy with your grade.
I had to take this class for my major and honestly this class was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. The speeches are easy to create, yes you had to have five people in the speech, but the grade I got in the end was worth it and I would definitely take her again if I had to. Very good professor and answered all of my questions when asked.
Taking Professor Pettigrew for a 3-week summer course was a great decision. I have the worst anxiety when it comes to public speaking but she makes it easier and more comfortable. Super supportive when giving speeches.
The worst teacher I have ever seen.
If you like wasting your money on a class this is the one to take. Amanda Pettigrew does not show up to class (and when she does , she is often late), her lectures are completely irrelevant, and she takes forever to post grades.
Honestly I never liked this teacher. She was always late or would cancel class very last min. She was nice but also at times she was very rude. She would never remind us of alot of our main big homework assignment that were online that would be a big part of the class work.
I had a regain of confidence in everyday conversation and in presentation. The fist day of class I did not look forward to, but that changed to the point that I was very willing to share my own passions with other people through a presentation. If you needed help she was always there, whether on or offline. Just make sure to do the online homework.
Speeches were very clear and not difficult but she does not communicate very well.
Took this class online. She doesn't curve at all. Terrible with communication over emails. Otherwise, pretty easy class, just do the homework(lots of it) and follow simple instructions.
absolutely does not accept late work, very tough grader, gives too many assignments. do not recommend
Most Homework is for a completion grade. There are lots of assignments but they don't demand a lot of your time and she allows you to work ahead. We performed 5 speeches for class and you get to choose the topic you want to talk about which makes it a lot easier. Ignore the bad reviews, as long as you do the work, you will pass 100%
probably the worst teacher i have ever had here. acts like speach is the most important class youre taking right now and if youre not an einstein on public speaking dont bother. super extra when it comes to grading. take any other teacher
I really liked this professor, I wanted to like her as much as I could; but, she uses this software called McGraw Hill. This software has lessons that are tedious and definitely migraine inducing. You dont know how many questions are left which is a HUGE annoyance. But she did give extra credit which I do appreciate!
She assigns a lot of homework assignments that count to your grade. Oftentimes she'll assign 5 assignments a week.... for a Speech class. She is also a tough grader on speeches, to her there is no such thing as a perfect speech, so you will never get a perfect score. Even if you hit all the requirements.
She is amazing and smart!
I have so much anxiety about speeches but this class was great! I got to pick my topics, the instructions were clear and its all on the calendar. Do your work ON TIME and you will get an A - she is an easy grader - just read her rubrics. She always answered messages sent through Canvas - which she makes you use, but I got the APP so it was easy.
As long as you do your speeches well and on the day assigned youll pass. Textbook is online :) I enjoyed having her.
Assignments are well explained and you know what you have to do to get an A. Practice and completing assignments is all it really is
At the beginning of the semester I was excited to have her cause I heard good things as things went on she wouldnt respond to my emails, when she responded she gave vague answers and gave attitude in responses, overall I didnt like the disrespect I got when asking a question.
My final grade was a 100.1%, and in my opinion it was easy to get. There is a calendar that shows all the assignments, and when they are due. There are no surprise assignments, and there is sometimes extra credit. I took this in person, which helped me improve my public speaking. Late assignments not graded, but calendar shows everything.
Professor P, Is great everything is laid out step by step and she gives extra credit, do all the homework and speechs and its an easy A, also she gives great critical criticism on class speeches. Highly recommend taking her class.
Take her online speech class. You won't regret it. The best decision I ever made. So easy. Shes awesome.
TAKE THIS CLASS! Mrs. P is an amazing teacher and you will for sure get an A in her class. Shes a really easy grader and gives no homework. No tests or quizzes! She cares and is great!
Mrs. P is the best teacher ever!!!!! The class was sooooo easy, even in person. She is the easiest grader and never gives homework! She really cares about us! Tons of extra credit!
I loved going to her class, because of the people but her as well. She was very easy to talk to, I wouldn't say she's a super tough grader but the rubric is very straightforward. Honestly, if you show up and do what you're supposed to and put in the work, it's an easy A.
she is a lovely prof but she did not respond to your email.
Nice professor at times, and ultimately a good class to take, but there are way better professors. She cancels class VERY frequently, over the course of the semester, me and my classmates have counted approx. 11 class cancellations, most WITHOUT notice. She can have a real attitude even if you just ask a question, and can be hard with grading.
Great professor. Goes easy on grading, and makes what she expects of you clearly. Teaches you what she wants to see during speeches, and makes it an enjoyable class. She cancelled a couple of times, but that isnt a big deal.
The assignments for this class were average in difficulty and there was enough time to prepare for speeches. However, I did find a lack of communication with emails. She cancelled many classes within the course which was upsetting. Most with late or little notice. It made going to her class less exciting.
Pettigrew is a eh.Would give good feedback on speeches but she was horrible when it came to responding to emails for students who are in need of her assistance(part of her job).Gave some students a pass for submitting speeches the morning after the due date due to technical difficulties but gave zeros to other students who missed small requirement
Great professor. Took her over the summer and finished with a high A. If you keep up with the work and turn in all your speeches on time (following the rubric) the class will go smoothly. This was a 4-week course.
Professor Pettigrew is a great speech teacher. She explained things very well and was very straightforward and simple. She made me feel comfortable during my speeches and overall made me feel confident as a public speaker.
Took the four week course last summer. Definitely recommend doing it then. Used McGraw hill and those assignments were ok. Speeches are not bad at all, just follow rubric and make sure to hit minimum time. Four speeches total (one per week).
She gave easy and good instructions for homework/ speeches. I took this as an online course. She is a good teacher but is bad with answering emails for students who need questions answered, but when she does, it's as if she responds to them with attitude. Overall I would take again, but plan to email her 3 days in advance if you have a question.
I took this class online and it was a total of 4 EASY speeches. Her syllabus will seem intimidating but her class isn't bad at all. A minimum of 6 people for your speech must be shown and if you would like you can put 2 people on facetime/video call. Final is an online proctoring on Mcgraw Hill.
Taking Amanda is like youre on an episode of Impractical Jokers and she is one of them. I was waiting half of the semester for Sal to pop out and say it was a bit. I learned nothing. She canceled all the time with no warning. She was a little funny. We had one lecture the entire semester.
Honestly I think taking her is a joke. She grades harshly. When you reach out to her about questions she's very rude and unhelpful. I wouldn't take her again just for the type of person she is.
A great professor and a really awesome person. I highly recommend her. She makes it clear what you have to do to get an A or pass the class. Gives great feedback and is not too judgmental. I am not good at public speaking so it really helps to have a professor that can empathize with students.
Great class, very easy. Consisted of 4 speeches and many assignments. Final was lowkey complicated questions each choice can be the answer. Syllabus looks hard the class isn't. Does not respond to emails often and if she does it's not helpful. Failed the final and still have an A. Do well on the assignments and presentations and you're chilling.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. she is the one professor at moraine that I don't recommend. She's a tough grader and she doesn't care about her students she isnt help. she will literally see the smallest mistake in your speech and you receive a whole 0 which is the same if you don't even show up. She doesn't even let you know before she cancels.
She was so mean. Her attitude in emails was very unprofessional. Don't even bother taking her she was one of the rudest professors I ever encountered. She assigns so much work it's never ending. She has so many speeches that she will be the toughest grader on. She never tells you on what to improve and lets you fail the class purposefully.
I never write any reviews but this professor is extremely rude and doesn't help at all she cancel so much and I live far and everytime I would think she would write in email she didn't and I would show up and she's not there as the rest of the class waits for her.
I began this class online then withdrew and took it in person, which was honestly the best decision I made. I had terrible anxiety with public speaking but I feel I got better with it. Pettigrew makes you so comfortable and I feel her expectations were not as high/strict as other professors I've heard about. She gives lots of extra credit too!
i was really annoyed that i took this class just to fail it at the end just because being a minute under speech time you must have a minimum of 5 mins for each speech or you will receive a 0 regardless if u have done the other work&If u fail one speech you fail the entire class.homework is rlly long and she doesn't take any late work what so ever.
As long as you complete every speech with 5 minutes and have 6 people in your speech ( two can be on facetime ) you will get at least a B. The class had no essays but small assignments that go towards the speech that were very easy.
She never answers her emails ever. As long as you complete the assignments that go towards the speech you will get at least a B. There were 4 speeches and you need 6 people in your speech but two can be on facetime but the speeches were super easy and only two of the speeches needed to be research based. The class had no essays.
I don't understand what is wrong with these bad reviews. The class was really easy and workload is manageable. For those people who got zeros are really deserved since they didn't read the instructions carefully and didn't practice with the timer.
I took this class online! homework was on McGraw grades are mostly based on speeches, loads of extra credit, and not a tough grader as long as you do what is on the rubric. She is very nice and understanding. There are 4 speeches and 3 require 6 people to be in the video
DO NOT TAKE HER!! All of her required speech topics are VERY hard to make a speech out of. I don't recommend her at ALL. I have many friends who took Com103 and none of them ever struggled with coming up with ideas the way I do with this professor. Just the dumbest topics in the world, and are not simple at all. Save yourself a headache.
The class is not difficult, nor is she the worst, but the class is pretty self-taught, and she tends to cancel class a lot, which is nice, but at the same time, we're paying over $400 to be self-taught and stuck with a teacher who can't commit to getting to work… Time is money.
Professor would not communicate via email, would contradict the syllabus saying absolutely no late assignments were accepted, then emailed several days later saying the speeches could be turned in late penalty of 10% a day. Only form of communication from the professor was an email saying to drop the course. class was easy, horrible communication.
Honestly I liked her. So much extra credit was given. If you actually try on your speech she will honestly give you an A. She was a super chill grader. She also canceled a lot which was nice because we only really needed class if there was speeches. I failed the final and passed with an A. Take her.
Not much to say. Took this class online, and it was overall an okay class. The teacher, however, was just rude. Not very good with communicating. I tried to reach out to her regarding issues I was having that would affect my grade, and instead of offering guidance, she flat out insulted me for not knowing. A better answer would've been no response.
I took speech on the weekends with Professor Pettigrew and she was great! You do have to put in the work, but she is fair and helpful and offered extra credit to the entire class. She is a tough grader, but she literally tells you everything you would need to do get a good grade, you just have to listen and do it. Take her.
Horrible on grading nothing was ever graded which made it impossible to do some assignments, as we had to respond to her feedback to our work.Tried emailing a couple times and didn't get one response, not even the slightest bit of acknowledgement. She does not communicate to any of her students and literally just ghosts them. Avoid her at all cost
Does not email students back and is selfish with grading
She's ok. I wouldn't take her again. Especially online. Failed a speech for not have 6 people present! I LIVE ALONE!!!! Horrible at communicating! Doesn't answer emails! She never grades!
She doesn't respond to emails. She grades super late. Tough grader. She doesn't seem to care about her online students.
She abuses her power of grading. Im sure she is well aware that nobody GENUINELY wants to take this class so she makes it harder. If it wasn't in the curriculum for degrees, no one would take it. Choose any other professor.
Would take her again! super chill, very easy work, barely gives out any hw..
Unfortunately I registered for my classes too late and ended up having her for my class. I have never gotten any good feedback from her and don't get me started on getting into contact with her. I have sent multiple emails to her and have gotten 0 responses to all of those emails. Also a lot of her assignments center around McGraw Hill which sucks.
I guess she's alright for an in person Com 103
If you keep up with the work you will get an A! Makes the material easy to understand! Doesn't respond to emails which is very annoying. I like her as a person, but not as a teacher. She sometimes came across as annoyed when you ask her a question. She was just alright.
DO NOT TAKE HER!! Unrealistic & unfair expectations for speech requirements. Confusing assignment directions. Takes at least a week and a half to respond to emails sent through Canvas. Very harsh grading. Made up her own rule that was not stated in the syllabus as a response to my extension request on a speech project.
She was consistently late to class. I feel compared to the other professors I have/had her Canvas set up is confusing and not easy to navigate. She uses McGraw-Hill and that was confusing at first but ultimately the assignments were easy. She doesn't respond to e-mails but on the flip side made up for that for being flexible with due dates.
