The professor is very intelligent and knows her stuff. She is firm but fair. All her work is designed to make sure you remember the content she teaches. Homework, Mid-Term, and Final are fun and educational. I will leave this class with information that I can actually use in life. I recommend her to anyone needing to take this class.
Daily discussions on current, relevant topics. Very concrete in what is required. Very open to feedback.
She's a good professor but I think she tries to be TOO professional. Every lecture was structured the same, which kind of got old.. open note midterm, take home final paper, easy assignments - but you HAVE to do them ALL if you want an A.
One of the best classes I've ever taken!
This class is very easy if you have done all the homework(Weekly Wiki writeup) and act like discussion in each class. The teacher is nice and perfect and easy understand English speaking for international student .
Excellent Professor, easy to understand lectures and presentation but strict on HW and weekly write-ups, interesting HW questions. Informative, useful for real life. Also, she is young, cute and professional. Highly recommend to take class with her if you wanna learn something new.
Professor Potasznik's class is very informational and her requirements are straightforward. She has a particular system that she goes by and pretty much the whole class continues with the same paradigm. Short papers every week (until the latter part of the semester where she gives a lot of leniency), daily discussions and lectures. Good class.
Ms. Potasznik knows her material, and is very systematic in her approach. The amount of assignments may look a bit tough, but trust me it isn't as bad as it seems. As long as you can follow simple directions you'll be fine. Turn it in on time, and you'll be fine. Oh, and she is really beautiful to boot. So, paying attention to lectures is easy!
I began this class thinking, "this is going to be a very dull class" but it turned out to be quite interesting. Professor Potasznik was a fantastic lecturer. She's very nice and very fair. The class is quite easy but time-consuming. Do all of the assignments, go to all of the classes, write a study guide for the mid-term and you'll get an A.
285, was a great class. amanda is a really nice, undestanding, intellectual, and helpful. She was a great proffesor to have.
Her lectures are very very interesting and useful in real life if you know how to apply it, and she knows how to engages students. Her syllabus looks scary, but it is not that bad, trust me! Useful class and you will learn possibly every ethnic issues in technology, highly recommended to take her. Wonderful and smart professor.
Great professor. Easy to pay attention for obvious reasons. Easy grade.
I enjoyed Amanda's class. Her presentations were clear and interesting to listen to and the discussions were engaging. The class is easy but helpful. Doing the assignments on time and correctly is a must.
Amanda does an excellent job lecturing, and she is very inquisitive on the subject matter. Her class is effort-based: there are a lot of assignments including papers, discussion-preps, and an oral presentation; but she doesn't put much pressure on you as she's a forgiving grader. I would have preferred more feedback on papers but she grades many.
she is a great professor, she makes a boring subject as ethics become fun and interesting, and is no way to leave her class without take some of her lecture with you. she gives HW every class, and is a class discussion about the HW every class. she assigns an page of writing every week, and her final paper is hard but not too bad.
She is cute, and she gives great lectures. Easy class, although lots of discussions, almost every class. That is really the only downside to the class when you aren't in the mood to talk to classmates. She is very engaged in her lectures and material and shes pretty funny too. Midterm was open note, basically an easy A as long as you participate.
Potasznik is an amazing lecturer. She is always well prepared and on time. One of the most amazing professors at Umass Boston. I wish she taught more subjects because her organization and clarity could really help in both the math and science departments. Makes ethics fun! Would recommend her to everyone! But to get an A you must participate.
Professor Potasznik is very knowledgeable about her field, and it is easy to see from her lectures as they are casual, but informative. As long as you show up and do the work that is required, absolutely manageable work, you will be able to get the grade that you think you deserve. One test, weekly homework, presentation, and final paper.
Shes pretty young (and very cute). Her classes are pretty clear cut with lecture slides and she tells you exactly which notes to take to be ready for the exam/papers/homework. as long as you show up and participate youre bound to do good.
She's young, I thought she was a student at first, and beautiful. Class was interesting and she knows her material really well. Beginning of class was always a discussion and even if you didn't do the work you could still get participation points. Had to do a group project. Also she's beautiful
Fun and easy class with an amazing Professor.
The class itself was very easy and she sets up her course so that students could get easy A's. However, she has a very condescending tone of voice and isn't very approachable. As a previous rater here has stated, Potasznik treats her students like grade school students: You are required to provide evidence for ALL your absences, but we're adults..
Very knowledgeable about the subject. Very simple homework assignments. Tough grader on essays. Must do an essay every 2 weeks, a group project, a midterm and a take home final paper. Lots of vocabulary. Class was interesting. Professor was approachable.
Class is easy, professor is inflexible and unapproachable.
Very fair and easy to talk to. She knows her stuff and can explain it in multiple different ways. Classes are similar to the professional world, you have to show up but the tests are open notes.
Other than the daily homework and short papers (1 page) every two weeks, this class takes almost no effort to pass. You learn a lot about laws you need to know if you work as a programmer.
Wow, this lady can lecture. I was never bored in class and the rest of the assignments were fine. Totally manageable unless you don't speak English at all or don't expect to spend time on anything outside of class.
It was so nice to have an organized, clear, and informative class every single time.
Very organized. Will tell you day 1 exactly how you're being graded, exactly when everything is due, and then she follows through with that. Very prepared for each lecture and knows the material well. The best professor I've had at UMB so far. I understand the "not approachable" opinions to a degree but she really wasn't that bad.
She is well organized and her instructions are very clear.
Had her in the Spring. She was professional and clear in what she expected. There were no surprises. You have daily homework and bi weekly writeups (if I recall on the frequency) that relate to the class discussions. She's a good Professor overall and presents the material effectively. I found the class interesting and the topics relevant.
Her lectures is clear.
Her lectures is clear .
Class is easy, professor is unapproachable
Extremely smart and helpful. The comments about being unapproachable must be the students who swarm her after lecture. Go to office hours and she has plenty of time for you.
Fair, punctual, smart, awesome. But she doesn't do extra credit so read the syllabus carefully.
I had crazy issues last semester and she worked with me to help me pass. perfect balance between professional and caring.
Crazy smart and a great lecturer. Her level of organization would be appreciated in my other classes.
smart + pretty + doesn't ingratiate herself awkward cs guys are afraid to approach her "unapproachable" she was always happy to talk with me after class or during office hours. she is very friendly and helpful.
I thought this class would be very boring, but I feel like she does everything she can to make it interesting. Lots of references to current events. Definitely go to office hours unless you want to stand in a group at the front of the room when she's packing up.
She is very easy. And extremely helpful outside of class. Theres barley any homework. Just one final project thats graded pretty lightly. Which she gives you the entire semester to finish. Would definitely take her class again!
She is an unfair grader. You would do all of your work and meet the requirements and she wont give you the grade you deserved.
Extremely easy grader. Comes down hard on cheating but otherwise it would be really hard to get a bad grade in my opinion.
She's really good at what she does. Makes complicated laws easy to understand.
she is the best young professor I have ever taken, full of knowledge and energy and very well driven. way to teach and very well organized. easy to pass the tests and weekly homework. I like her energy and soul of teaching.
Very helpful, nice, and organized. She's passionate and knows what she's talking about. Yes you have to come to class but you know that when you sign up, so I don't see the problem there.
Excellent lecturer - inspiring and informative on current events. Very organized and clear in her expectations. Willing to help and answer questions about assignments but pretty much everything you need is on the class website. Give a consistent effort, participate, and do all the assignments and you will do well. Great class overall so far.
She is really mean with grades. dont be unlucky.
I don't understand why would she has such a high rating. She treats the IT/ CS students like they are English majors, such a tough, unfair grader, and NO extra credits at all. She should be an English major lecturer instead.
I learned everything I needed to know because her teaching is really clear. I also finally passed the wpe because of this professor. I wouldn't say it was always fun but I would say she did the job of at least 2 professors. Also very organized during coronavirus shutdown, everything was very smooth.
she is so organized. everything was explained and ready to go, it was nice not having to figure out what she wanted, and class was always entertaining.
The course is very organized and pretty rigid. She states what's expected of you clearly, and you need to meet that to get the grade you want. Both lecture and participation heavy. None of the assignments were that hard. Individual grades for group project. Friendly in office hrs. It's a writing heavy class for IT majors- alot of complaints.
Does she understand that she is teaching a CS class and not an english class. She good at teaching but horrible at grading. Cut CS students some slack. Our other courses are hard enough but no this course has to make it that much tougher. I dont know if she has a CS background or not but she clearly doesnt understand what the students go through.
Ive had convos with students who hate this prof bc she requires you to write understandable papers. I think it's a plus especially in our field. I'm no perfect writer but my mistakes were pointed out and not heavily punished. Not everything can be a multiple choice test. College graduates need to be able to write. I think she was fair + nice.
I do not understand why she has such high rating. Many people who have taken this class complain about how she writes people up and dismissal from the course. This is pretty much an English class in cs track by someone who studied world languages. She is a tough grader, the papers she assigns are scrutinized. you will not get the grade you want.
She has terrible grading criteria. 20+ homework papers during the semester and if you do good, it's still not a guarantee, that you'll get a good grade. Though, the class is organized, and she clearly explains the material.
I was impressed. People in my discussion groups were salty that you had to be able to communicate in the class, I guess they just wanted to code silently like every. other. class. we have. She gives good reasons why programmers should have ethical judgment AND communication skills. Btw in college you have to write papers (shocked pikachu).
Dr. A.P. is a great professor. She is a very good role model for other professors and checks off all the boxes that you would want in a professor. This class is very writing heavy. If you are not a strong writer, then you might have a difficult time. She is willing to help if you have any problems. There is a lot of work but it isn't that difficult
lool, this the type of professors that would say they never cheated in school but I'm pretty 99.999% that she did. If you're not good at writing, please do not take this class with her, she'll remove points from your paper just because you didn't cite it correctly. Her writings are 25% of the grade, plus a stupid group presentation that is 25%.
I have Prof Potasznik for 3 semesters now, and I really enjoy the class time with her. She's brilliant and taking care of her students.
Professor Potasznik is simply not qualified to teach an IT or CS course. She has no IT or CS experience and it shows. During class we only learned about two schools of ethics when this was supposed to be an ethics class. She used the rest of class as a means to go over many different laws. She never mentioned any code of ethics we abie by in IT
Shes organized and I learned a lot.
Great professor, cares about the students. Pay attention, read, do your work, and you will get an easy A.
Weekly Blackboard discussion posts and responses totally reasonable 5 biweekly 1pg minimum writeups (I hate writing and most of my submissions were 1-3 pages graded an A) Midterm exam Group Presentation 9-12 mins super doable Final Exam is a 3-10 page paper in which she gives you scenarios to choose from I genuinely liked her!
If you think basis on her rating on rate my professor then forget about it if you take this class get ready for hardwork and also get ready for suffering.
It's said that she went to talk to the CS department, and then made this course compulsory. If you major in CS BA, you're lucky because you can skip it. She talked lot of laws which confused me, because it's hard to memorize. She's really strict on writing. The teacher at the writing center commented that after reading my write-ups. So picky...
So much work and the professor is very critique. For a computer science student this class is a nightmare. Its almost impossible to get A on this class as she and her graders are so tight on grading. Its more like law class than CS class and get ready to write a lot. This class is like taking 2 English classes at the same time.
I honestly don't understand how she has so many good reviews. It's definitely an easy class, so take her if you need the credits, but everything she talks about is super controversial and makes me (and probably several others) want to walk out mid-class. Tough grader but easy to pass due to weighting. Also talks in a super stuck-up manner.
Really great professor, I wish I could take more classes with her. A lot of the material is common sense stuff but a lot of it is really interesting. There is homework due every class but it takes 10-20 minutes each time to complete. The class is essay-heavy but the page requirements are very minimal and it's always on the topic of your choosing.
I really loved this class! Yes it was a lot of writing, but the papers themselves were pretty short (about 1.5 - 2 pages) that are assigned biweekly. The topics themselves were quite interesting and she really gives a good overview of everything without getting too much into the specifics of laws and regulations.
This teacher is the most horrible and worst teacher I have ever had in my life. If you can avoid this class, please do. This teacher should teach English classes and not IT classes.
Do not enroll in this class, man.I repeat, DO NOT. She is the worst professor ever. Why is she even teaching this class by herself? I wish there were more professors to take it.
The class isnt that hard, but the teacher makes it difficult. She treats us like we are English majors. This class is supposed to be more like an IT class and not too much writing.
This is class is okay, but the professor is just too much.
One of the worst professor. She thinks that she has never done any mistake. She never give you any chance.
No matter how good you write she will give you below 60 even you follow every instructions. Please don't take care . I had tutor in class still she will give hard time in your weekly assignment .
Not that bad. The work Pot. gives is reasonable, and the lecture slides get the point across. For homework, she grades on simply doing it, meaning she either gives 100 or 0, but can tell if you put in effort. She also tends to speed through lessons, and often uses slides unlike what she posts on her website. She is a really tough grader on papers.
Worst professor ever. She is so unfair and treat her student so bad.
I will say, professor, is good. English is my second language, and I'm not good at it. But content matters even if you lose some points on writing. Weekly writing is not that hard. Project is a good way to bump up the grade. Final writing is something more serious since we have to carefully implement everything which we learned in class.
Great class but awful Professor that teaches it.
Treats her student really really bad. Not a good professor at all. One the worst Professor I ever had in my 3years at Umass. The Worst.
she was the worst professor i had ever. dont go with her. i think umass boston dont have other professor who teachs this course, she was the worst, even the TA of her was the same with her. Im so sad for this professor being such kind of rude to student. i think umass have to bring other professor. she will report and delete this message soon.
Do not take her class!!!!
awful and condescending. demonstrates selective "kindness".
She does not grade any of the papers you write, instead, she has 6-8 undergrad students do it. This, of course, creates inconsistencies since they all grade differently. Amanda is almost always late to class, but if you show up late to her class she will take 20% of your class participation for that day.
Please avoid this class if at all possible. She is the most difficult teacher I've ever had and the worst professor I've ever had. She is rude and makes things difficult for students. Umass should hire other professors because it is unfair for students to have to cope with her.
The worst professor ever......!
Her grading style is awful. She will find any excuse to deduct points and the feed back she provides is unhelpful; the same is true with her teaching style. She is the only person currently teaching CS/IT 285 and because she is aware that is a mandatory class she makes the class difficult.
Very clear expectations, great lectures, good feedback. I learned a lot.
Rude!!!!
She is an awful instructor who does not help her students at all. All she does is berate you and says that everything we should know is in the syllabus. She leaves unprofessional and mean comments on your graded work. Don't bother emailing her your complaints regarding the class, because I did, and she began to be stricter on my graded work.
Avoid this class like the plague, her attitude is terrible.
She is rude and does not care about her students. She will never help you, and if you complain, she will give you a hard time.
It's just impossible to pass the class. She
she is not the best teacher to take it.
I don't recommend her.
Every paper you write, no matter how good it is, will receive a grade of below 60. She gets mad when you ask her questions. This is the hardest class I've ever taken in my life. I wish Umass would bring new professors for the class..
I don't understand why she became a teacher if she doesn't like doing the job. A teacher is supposed to help students no? She works with the one size fits all approach. If you reach out to her about something she gets mad and just sends you a link. If the link was useful would I be reaching out to you?
The class is boring. I only show up because she makes attendance 20% of the grade. The lecture is always the same format. Currently she is the only person teaching CS/IT285. They should consider looking for other intructors, so that students aren't forced to take her class.
Worst professor ever.
I took Prof Potaznik's course in FA 2017 and have been working in IT industry now for 4 years as a NOC/Sysadmin, and now in a Devops role. This is one of the most important classes to take that will directly relate to your career and she is the best professor to teach the ethics within IT. PAY ATTENTION to this course, it is not a difficult either!
Probably the worst professor ive ever taken. This is a law and english class combined. if you think you can take a full semester with this professor you will most likely fail or withdrawal.
I had to withdraw her class three times, and I'm just going to wait for Umass to bring in a new professor. She is a rude and unkind professor and a harsh grader. She does not care about her students and will do anything to hurt them. Avoid her class if you can.
She is way too harsh on papers and homework.
The class lectures are actually really interesting and the majority of her content is up to date. I don't like the writtings (because ESL), but I acknowledge it's a skill I need. Most importantly, you can tell she enjoys teaching and it isn't only about a paycheck to her. UMB needs more proffesors like her who actually care and want to be here.
The worst professor from Umass Boston, she fails two times one of my classmates, and one of my classmates said he withdrew 3 times from her class. Please avoid 100% this professor and report this professor because she is racist.
Do not be misled by her rating because she most likely reports negative comments to take them down. She does not care about her students and will fail you the entire course for one mistake. I know someone who took her course four times and failed it twice, even though they had dropped it twice before.
thank you for the solid experience professor Potasznik.
she is the worst professor ever from UMass Boston. Don't take with her.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken. When taking this class, make sure you are not taking any other class because it will stress you out. Most students drop it the class, like more than half dropped it. Umass needs to bring in new professors for this class. I know few students that changed their major because of this class.
Mrs. Potasznik teaches CS285 well and makes it clear what is expected. The workload is average. She does a good job at making each lecture interesting and relevant and I find her engaging, and sharp.
Bad professor
Professor Potasznik was clear about what to expect from her course. There are a lot of writings for her class. The graders are tough on your writing. I was able to complete this class because I made sure to start each writing as soon as the class was over just so that I had something to turn in. Do your work early and you should be fine.
The worst professor!!
She is a very good professor with her lectures being very clear and her midterms being very easy. Also, it is easy to get an A in participation. Just show up in class, participate, and you will get an easy 100. As for the weekly writeups, they are easy, but since English is my 2nd language, I keep on getting B/C grades on it + the final paper.
You'll get an easy A if you follow the instructions. I scored 58 and 77 on my first and second write-ups because I did not read the instructions. Regardless of what you read here, she is not a bad person. Some students are angry because they want an easy grade. I hope she gets tenured, she is very intelligent and dedicated.
Boring and useless class; you can learn more by reading a couple of tech articles in 3 days than 3 months of this. Btw, it's mandatory attendance where you're gonna be checked out because she talks to us like we're robots who just discovered talking to people. I've learned more staring at paint drying than anything in this class. Sucks its grad req
She was the worst professor ever from umass boston. Skip this class.
Very nice Professor that surprisingly enforces strong essay writing rules. The weekly writeups and homeworks are pretty easy if you do them the day of the class. Just actually try, have an open mind, take notes, and I think you'll find something interesting in her course.
For a 3 credit class, the workload is crazy. Homework every single class. She grades on length of response. Weekly Write up grades are analytical, grammar, syntax, and format matters. I got marked down for having an extra line in my references page. She makes learning computer ethics and laws so dreadful with the heavy penalizing in writing.
She doesn't care for her student; she thinks everyone hates her; she was rude and unkind. If she needs you to send her the homework and asks you to meet ASAP, don't do that; just withdraw the class or your'e going to get an F.
Worst and rude professor ever.
she is such rude professor , I don't think she gonna get good attitude to ward her students
The school should think about recruiting new teachers for the class. Students will suffer in her class. Do not take her.
Her class is pretty easy; you must attend every class. The only thing that's hard is the weekly writely write-up's which were hell on earth. Other than that, her teaching is very informational and beneficial. honestly speaking I started her class with an F but worked my way up to a B-. All the RMP reviews are exaggerated tbh. Toughness is needed.
It's just impossible to pass her class. I just dropped the class and will wait till new professor arrives.
Gives a lot of work but is pretty straightforward. The most organized professor I've had. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Her negative, demeaning attitude really appears some days. She's always smiling, but is the opposite of pleasant. Depends on if she likes you as a person. Class content's fine. Little lecture heavy, whatever. I dread this class. The attitude ruins my mood. If there were an alternative (there should be!), a higher rank would be okay..but no!
I don't care for the weekly write ups and their rubrics. I appreciated learning about ethical practices and ethical issues in computing. I didn't need to be taught how to write like a researcher. I've had enough APA writing for one lifetime. Students would be better served with tests instead of writeups to confirm their mastery of the material.
Any remaining self-confidence I had has been methodically destroyed by this class. I gave it everything I had to try to make the professor happy. Sadly, nothing you do will ever get her to treat you respectfully. She seems to be intentionally going after students, and I have no idea why she behaves this way.
The professor is a tough but fair grader. The course is not hard if you just do the work and take the notes. The midterm is straightforward if you did the notes on class terms and the group project is not as difficult as it seems. She tells you exactly what she's looking for. She's accommodates anything personal in your life if you let her know.
I'm not the best writer and I personally hate writing, but this class was not nearly as difficult as other ratings indicate. She may be a strict grader, but if you put in the slightest bit of effort to make note of all the grading criteria it's not hard at all to get a good grade. Also, the lectures are pretty informative and she is very engaging.
Just read the rubric and you'll be fine. Class isn't hard
Potasznik is not NEARLY as bad as some of the ratings are saying. Open-Notes Midterm, Group Presentation Project, and 3/4 Weekly Writeups that are graded in a way in which you can clearly see what you need to do to improve. (Final is OPTIONAL if term grade is above 80) There are even a couple of course tutors who will help if you reach out. Easy A.
Seems like a skill issue when people fail this class, easy mid term, straightforward hw's, etc. Be better.
Professor Potasznik is engaging and clear in her lectures, letting you know what exactly you should be taking away from them. Will work with you if you follow directions well. Course website will answer basically every question you have in great detail. Take full advantage of this to do exceptionally well in the class; it will help you aplenty.
Professor P was awesome! Homework isn't hard, WWs aren't weekly, and the midterm was easy! Take handwritten notes on the terms she puts out in class, you can use 30 pages of notes on your midterm I used 5. If you fail this class you didn't do a thing. I did horribly on weekly writeups and still passed. Side note, she is a very attractive Professor!
Good Professor, you learn a lot if you pay attention. She is a bit passive-aggressive when you're not paying attention, but understandable. My only critique for her is to change the grading scale, a 94 shouldn't be an A-? and homework every day on top of a project presentation and the write-ups is a lot of work for an elective.
Always had a smile on her face and was professional. A lot of note-taking for this class but you can use handwritten notes on the midterm exam (~30 T or F Q's). HW is given every class but is not hard (~30min per HW). If you do well enough she exempts you from the final paper (which is great), & there are 3-4 writing assignments (1-page minimum).
Good professor. She is very strict about rubrics. I have no clue why people are calling her racist, she is a VERY nice person and a good professor. Just listen to what she says and follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Midterm is a free 100/100. She was lenient on the presentation grades, I think everyone got a 90+ on the final presentation.
Prof. Potasznik was an amazing teacher. She had a very clear understanding about the material that she was teaching and would always provide the necessary space to ask questions and learn more outside of class. As long as you follow the clear directions she gives you, then there should be no worry about the course and your grade.
Umass Boston should fire this professor. I'm really sorry for the next generation. If she calls you ASAP, bro, just withdraw....
This class is easy as long as you do the work. the content isn't super interesting, but some CS majors really need it.
Lacks care for students and their individual needs. dismissive at times.
I came into this class with low expectations after seeing many negative reviews but was pleasantly surprised. The professor gives very engaging and interesting lectures. There's homework for every class, sure, but as long as you do it, show up, and discuss it with your peers, you'll get a 100 every time. Midterm and project were very easy as well.
This class is easy as long as you do the homework and show up to every class.
The class itself is easy and structured properly. This felt like an English class more than it did a IT or CS course. I am not very good at writing but all my papers had mistakes like any other college student, she has graders do her grading for her. Pretty much trained them to deduct heavy on minor errors, never got anything about a 60.
Tbh, the class is easy. Just be on time and do the homework, and while annoying that there is always homework, it's something to set some time aside for and not much of a hassle. Midterm is stupid easy and project is manageable as well. My main issue is that the prof is ruthlessly strict and nitpick when it comes to writing assignments. Mid prof
Super chill as long you did your homework, presentation was easy, and the papers were the hardest part since she is letting US choose the article, and formatting, but if you score above an 80 as your overall grade, you are given the choice to be exempted from the finals.
This professor does not embody any of the ethics she teaches, she continuously supports and lectures questionable causes that undermine minorities groups. She claims to be a DEI advocate but she is not and has been heard supporting the seizure of disadvantaged people from the country.
She tries to fail every student and overanalyze everything you do to get you to admit that you cheated, even though you were not cheating.
horrible, she is a tough grader and she does a crazy set of instructions for write ups. I'll be honest if you are good at writing then this class should not be hard. She too strict and merciless
Easy class if you do the work. Attendance mandatory but homework and midterm aren't too bad. Helpful professor, just don't slack off. Unstuck study was a game-changer for exam prep.
Extremely strict, if it's in the syllabus, then it is final, no questions asked. No mercy or exceptions are given, though this is compensated for fairly simple assignments. The exams are easy, she explains concepts very clearly and is always available to answer questions from students. Very nice and likable, but can be frustrating due to strictness
Amanda is by far the worst ethics professor at the University. She has her TA's grade all her assignments for you so it's luck of the draw whether you get a harsh one or not. Later in the semester she changed the grades of students' essays for no reason and brought them down 10+ points. She is super strict on homework requirements for no reason.
In my experience, she has interesting lectures but don't expect any sympathy or leniency whatsoever. I was having technical difficulties submitting my final paper, and she ignored my emails containing proof I did the assignment on time and failed me. Follow example papers for writeups to a T and you will get a decent grade.
If you like showing up for class and putting in the work she's great. She teaches you about real life situations for CS/ IT majors. Her slides are upto date and she gives you materials to work on your write-ups too. 10/10 would take her again. She's organized and has boundaries.
Incredibly easy to get an A in this class. Her guidelines are very clear; don't use AI, quizzes/tests with notes, read and discuss articles. 1 group project. Her website is kept up to date with everything you need. I took this class to check a box but this was probably one of the most interesting classes I've taken at UMB.
wosrt prof in umb shes a
If you're willing to do the (not heavy amount of) work, it's a really interesting and pretty easy class. She's strict but is forgiving if you don't try to BS her. She rocks.
She is really patient, kind-hearted, sweet, gentle, soft, and SMART, teaching with a unique teaching method. She talks too much, but every word is liable for us to memorize.
Umass should have think for their student….. she must fired….. she is the worst pro ever …please if you have option don't take with her …. If you registered with 45 students only 12-15 student will pass… she laughs but it's phony
Failed me for a messed up presentation!
this is the worst professor at umb. i genuinely believe she dislikes poc, along with a few other students. i was accused of plagiarism, or AI usage, when that wasn't the case, and when i tried proving otherwise, she did not let me show proof. she is very hard-headed and pushes you into admitting you were cheating, even if you weren't.
Her lectures were highly engaging, interesting, and easy to follow. The class was very structured, and expectations of students are clearly defined. Light workload. Ability to hand-write notes quickly is ideal for success. The class segment was often rushed though, and the quick pace may make it challenging for non-native English speakers.
i'm convinced only good-for-nothing students would hate her. class for spring25 was AMAZING. very interactive and interesting lectures. all tests are open book. shes vry clear w her expectations. no AI. at. all. and make sure to handwrite all ur notes every week and youll ace the class PARTICIPATION MATTERS. very collaborative and group work heavy.
I ended up changing schools due to this professor. She has TA's that grade your papers not her. This class is supposed to be an easy CS elective but it's not. She grades assignments extremely to a detail that deducts points heavily from assignments. She cannot take criticism on this website because most of the positive reviews are fabricated by her.
Midterm: lined up “military-style” for note checks. Interrupts presentations (“I'm just gonna clap”) & rushes lectures to get to her next class. Controlling, punitive, rigid. An ethics teacher with superficial warmth—fail her vague standards or don't “fit” and the real, unkind, selective personality appears. Unacceptable she's the sole teacher.
This class/lecture material is amazing. The professor? She is a 7/10. She's not quite as bad as some of the 1s make her out to be. (Though whats up with the perfect 5s insulting people criticizing her...hmmmmm). Good lecturer, fair grading criteria for the most part. Biggest criticism is getting frustrated with student comments/questions.
Nurse Ratched
Taking her class I'm praying for y'all
She is extremely impolite and vindictive.
WORST PROFESSOR IN HISTORY, NEVER TAKE HER CLASS!!!!! This class was incredibly stressful. She fixates on tiny mistakes and blows them out of proportion. She even threatened to remove me from the course over something minor, leaving me anxious and confused. I ended up taking a zero just to avoid further conflict. I WARN YOU, DON'T TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Avoid her class unless you're okay with being graded on minutiae or penalized for circumstances outside of your control. She will very condescendingly remind you of how inflexible her grading standards are. If anything, I can appreciate the irony of an ethics course being taught by a lecturer clearly devoid of any.

She's a very nice professor and I believe that if you pay attention to the lecture and study for the quizzes then you will be fine. She gives out hints on the quiz to help you. She is a tuff grader and doesn't take any late assignments. The discussion assignments are easy for in class. For the mid term she lets you use hand written notes.
One quiz/week (make quizlet flashcards!!). 1 discussion memo/week which was basically free points. Midterm was also free points because of handwritten notes. 1 group project. Final is optional if grade is 80 > by day 23. Attend & study an hour a day. Want to take an actual bad professor? Take "Professor" Banjo, lol. Other than that, Dr. P was good.
classical requires no critical thinking, lectures are incredibly boring and everything we did felt very pointless and busy work
Just take this class, you have no homework to worry about at all. There is a 4-8 question quiz every week based off the lecture slides that are EASY. Just look at the terms on the slides 10-20 mins before class and get a 100 on the quiz. There is one mid term, one group project (invidiually graded). 80% or better you don't need to take the final.
She's very professional and anyone would probably agree that she deserves her PhD. She's passionate about the material and you can immediately tell that she knows exactly what she's talking about. You can expect some pretty easy quizzes & test throughout the course (as long as you follow along with her slides). There's one group project at the end.
Ths class is sad. An ethics course should be important for CS/IT but this is the most bog-standard "memorize, quiz, forget" loop since middle school. At least her lectures are interesting but she's ready to penalize you for anything. Big group presentation 25% of grade and she doesn't go over it in class. My advice: lock in, don't ai.
She just wasn't super nice idk why. The content was easy but it definitely felt like I was in high school again. Pretty snippy and condescending at times but I wouldn't avoid taking the class because of it. Just don't be caught not paying attention during lectures, show up to class, and memorize and forget a few vocab words a week.
I feel sorry for the next student. I don't believe she is a good teacher. I feel she uses her position to attack students, particularly male students, black, Spanish, asian, and I do not think she is qualified to teach. Most people reported her, and UMASS didn't take any action. I know she gave two students an F last time. But he passed on the 3rd.
Word to the wise for her those who want respect give respect.
