I absolutely loved this class. There was a lot of reading, but not nearly as much as I've had in other history classes. She has 3 main assignments and provides examples to base your work on. She is a bit disorganized, but when I would email she returned my emails quickly and clarified what she meant. I am taking another class from her next sem.

Prof Snyder was always available. She even has online chat times and offers to Skype with you if you are confused about expectations. She gives you examples of all assignments and a detailed writing guide to follow. She's not an easy grader, but she read drafts for me before the due date

Professor Snyder isn't easy but she always set up webchats or Skype to help me with my final paper. There is a lot of reading.

There is a good bit of reading, but I found the sources really interesting. Professor is always adding notes and music and movies that go along with the history. Their are a lot of different options for discussions.

Prof Snyder was always available to help and answer questions in discussion boards, email, and personal conferences. She gives your options for papers and always answers questions within a day. She read drafts of every one of my papers and was super helpful and nice. Just read the guidelines and ask questions and you'll do fine.

I took class for the summer of 2016 and it's a great class. You do have readings and discussion on a weekly basis, but if use good time management it's not difficult, interesting reads too. Professor Snyder is caring and willing to help her students in anyway she can. She always answered questions and clarified directions. Highly, highly recommend!

She only assigned a 10page research paper. She read mine three times before I submitted it. Dr. Snyder was always available for questions and help. More than most of my other online profs. That's why I'm taking her again in the fall.

Pre-Med here, Dr. Snyder deserves only the best ratings. She is everything a professor should be! Tough, yet fair, but also very helpful and knowledgable. Instead of going into this class looking for an A, how about you read & learn a little bit b/c she asks really good questions & will make you a better student at the end of the course. Fun GenEd!

Dr. Snyder told us exactly which sources to use. She read my paper twice and even met with me in person to make sure I got an A. As long as you follow instructions, you'll do just fine in this class. Dr. Snyder was always super helpful and nice.

Professor Snyder is extremely kind and understanding. Very quick at responding to emails. Grading feedback varies but is, for the most part, speedy and helpful. She gives ample opportunity to get a good grade in the class. Her course load is steady throughout the semester and there's no exams, just quizzes. 93% is needed for an A+.

Dr. Snyder is seriously the best professor I've ever taken!! This class was so easy. 1 discussion and a quiz per week. 3 papers total. If you need ANY help, email her through webcourses. She'll always reply back that day. She gives an extra credit quiz at the end just incase you missed a quiz and drops 3 lowest discussions. TAKE HER! She's awesome!

This is my third course with Dr. Snyder. She is not easy, but I have learned so much about writing and history as a career from her. She is always available for chats, gives examples of assignments, reads multiple drafts. The primary source assignment is a little tricky at first, but she answers questions 24/7 to make sure you understand it.

If you put the effort forward, this class is an easy A. Weekly discussions, a few easy quizzes, and only three pages all semester. Professor Snyder comes off very tough at first, but she's really pleasant and truly cares about her students. Gives helpful feedback, responds to emails fairly quick, and is a fair grader.

I've taken four classes with Dr. Snyder now. Like other students mention, there is a lot of reading, but that's the same in all of my history classes. She gives you questions to think about and is always available to chat, answer questions, and read drafts of papers. She gives you a clear rubric for discussions which are pretty easy to ace.

Had no problems with Dr. Snyder. She outlined everything expected in the syllabus and stuck to it. Great paper feedback, which I appreciate. Since this is a senior level history class you should definitely expect to read, but I found the readings to be enjoyable or at least tolerable. Not a whole lot of assignments, so make sure to do them all.

Being that the class is senior level, you are going to read your life away. I'm talking two entire books. There are weekly discussions, 4 papers, and no tests. Since I'm taking this class for Summer, I have other 6 week classes that are very demanding with papers as well, so I'd suggest taking this class when you have the time & dedication to.

I've taken two classes with Dr Snyder and really enjoy the different types of reading and sources she chooses. She isn't super easy, but she would webchat and even meet with me in person to read over my papers before I submitted. She always responds to emails and comments and usually within a day.

This class takes some great effort, but it's worth it! Dr. Snyder is very helpful with practically any questions you have and gives substantial feedback on your papers to help you improve. That level of dedication was appreciated. The class was interesting, too. Nice sources & the discussions were engaging. I'm no history major, either. Fun class!

Veteran of Dr. Snyder's classes here (I've taken four) and just have to say she would never give out zeros like that. She is always very accommodating and understanding with glitches on the part of the student, and even herself. She doesn't even teach LAH 3306 like that student said. She is tough, but always fair.

Research heavy and tough history major class. Although the syllabus was outdated, and the assignment instructions relatively vague (no excuse for it) she is a fantastic and well respected professor. Simply reaching out to her for more feedback/clarification cleared up any issues. Very kind, wants to see you succeed. Holds you to a high standard.

Professor Snyder is great! I have taken her for 4 classes, 3 this semester alone. I find her feedback incredibly helpful, and her advice has helped me improve exponentially in my writing and in analyzing different historical pieces/sources. She assigns a ton of reading but it is to prepare us for grad school, and for being a historian in general.

Professor Snyder is one of those rare professors in college. Are her classes easy, no you need to work for them. Yes, there is a lot of reading and papers- guess what it is an upper-level class, but she will ALWAYS review your papers if you send them to her in advance. I ended up changing my minor to history because of her. She is amazing!

Dr. Snyder's classes are no cakewalk, and she tells you that from the start. If you want to go grad school, she will make you ready. The final paper topic is super flexible to make sure you can write about something you like, and she gives you so many different questions and instructions to think about history in different ways.

This is my 2nd class with Dr. Snyder, by far better than my 1st experience. Once you know her style and how she grades its a breeze. She likes clear, condensed answers. Replies quickly to emails and is reassuring if you're struggling. Like other classes, she has a few book reviews, primary source papers and 1 ten page research paper. You must read.

Professor Snyder is easily accessible and will respond quickly and with relevant information. Class is reading intensive, though this is expected in a history class, and is based on weekly discussions, 2 book reviews, and a final paper. Discussions can get repetitive and assignment directions can be vague but she will clarify them.

Dr. Snyder really challenged me in my writing. She asked interesting questions, and gave us a lot of flexibility with out final paper to do a topic we were most interested in. I always found Dr. Snyder really kind and available to chat whenever I had a question. She would walk me through it. She also responded quickly to emails

I've taken three classes with Dr. Snyder now and some of the comments here are unfair. Discussions are just a paragraph or two (150 words) and she always reads drafts of papers. I conference with her before every paper. She is tough but she will really help you become a strong writer. She doesn't give busy work quizzes.

Taken in Summer 2020. An A is a 93+ in this class. Two 2-page papers based on historical movies, one 5-page final paper where you need to use primary sources. No exams at all, but 5 quizzes based on textbook readings. I was a terrible writer but she offered great feedback for me and was caring. 11 discussion posts requiring 100+ words.

I've taken four classes with Dr Snyder now and some people don't seem to understand what online or upper level classes should be. Historians read and they write. A lot. Dr Snyder makes us think about bigger arguments not just memorize dates. She has helped me really improve my writing and the way I think about arguments.

I'm also in 4150 this summer and got a B+ on the first paper. She has links in every instruction page to give you even more information and examples of the assignments and there is a whole Lab that I go back to every week to make sure I understand everything. I should have taken 3600 like she recommended but she has been very helpful.

Amanda Snyder is a really great Professor! She was consistent and diligent about her lessons. She does have papers that really make you do your research and compile an in-depth argument. But she is willing to help with all questions and you have and even critique your rough drafts to bring out your best work possible and make you a better writer.

I have a B+ in her class right now and have improved on every paper thanks to her comments and conferencing. She is always available to answer questions and read drafts. I've taken three of her classes now and am a much stronger writer. (also she doesn't teach 4412 because I take every class she offers!)

Dr. Snyder takes so much time responding to students. She reads every paper, and will read it multiple times, before you submit--even on a Saturday! You only have to buy one book for this class. Everything is available online and for free except that one book. She always has the most interesting topics.

I've taken three classes with Dr Snyder and I have to agree that she is the most accessible professor I've had. She responds to emails within a day and will conference with you at 6am if you work like I do. Every course I've taken with her has so much accessibility and everything is available online and linked in her modules.

Recent grad, first semester in MA. I cannot thank Dr. Snyder enough for preparing me for graduate school. Her classes were interesting but hard. I thought I was a good writer but she made me so much better. I've breezed through my first papers thanks to her feedback and help when I was her student. She even still answers my emails now!

People complain about Dr. Snyder teaching them how to write but I learned so much from her. When I read my first papers to now, it's really amazing. My grades have gone up across all of my History classes thanks to her feedback. And discussions are fun and easy. Once you follow the guidelines for citation, you easily get an A.

I appreciate how much Dr. Snyder always looks for online materials to assign instead of having to buy physical books. This is my second course with her and she's always bringing in new types of assignments and new timelines and things to show us and have us work on. She's always on top of things and fixes any problems right away.

Dr. Snyder offered so much advice and feedback on papers. She read drafts, she offered to conference, she made so many comments and questions on my papers. History is a LOT of reading and writing and I feel so much more prepared after this class. I wish there had been a few quizzes for some of the dates and people but I liked the timeline

Took this as a Pre-Law req and wow, it really was about the technical language and court stuff. Dr Snyder was always available and it absolutely helps to send her papers early. She has a lot of different types of writing assignments which was cool and I liked the class timeline we worked on. She really makes you think!

If you don't want to read, don't become a History major. Yeah, Dr. Snyder assigns a lot of reading (like 60 pages a week) but I thought it was all really interesting and different stuff than I've been assigned before. It wasn't that much more than any other History class I've taken. And you get to pick your own paper topic!

This was the easiest class I've taken. You have 7 weeks to write a 10page research paper and you get points for every part of it. Professor will read drafts of every paper due and give you tons of feedback and advice. Some fun reading too.

I definitely wouldn't call this class easy but Dr Snyder was always available and gave more feedback than any other professor I've had. She answered emails right away, she fixed link problems right away. She was always available to answer questions and she gives you so much information. It's a lot but I learned so much.

This was the hardest course I've ever taken. Take it during the summer if you can. I would have gone insane if I had taken it during a full-load semester. It's so much. She will go line-by-line critiquing your work. If you are not a proficient writer or you write below college level, you will struggle. Listen to her feedback and give it your all.

I second that Dr. Snyder will mark your paper line by line. She gave so much feedback and was always available to meet to go over that feedback so I understood. She has so many recommendations and is so encouraging. If you just reach out to her, she will make sure that everything is crystal clear and will read multiple drafts for practice.

A great professor. Nice woman. Very sweet. It's an easy class if you read and do the work. She did deduct me, a little, for one slight error in the way I did the sources (it's Chicago for history), but she drops the three lowest grades, so you're good. Just ask for that. Otherwise, you're good in her class. Nice lady. Some issues w/ classmates.

I've never had a professor give as much feedback as Dr. Snyder. You can even send her your papers before you submit and she goes through every line. She asks questions and really made me think differently about history. Definitely a lot of reading still!

If you're an undergrad history major, this will be the hardest class you will ever take. Promise. I took it in the summer and I felt like I was at war in the trenches. Now any other class is peanuts in comparison. Accept her criticism (don't take it personally), apply the feedback, and show you're improving. She knows what she's talking about.

She clearly states instructions on the homework. She drops the lowest score, which helps and she works with you. She understands that life happens and if you reach out to her, she will find ways to help you. Class is not meant to be easy though Dr. Snyder does make it really fair and entertaining for us to learn about her course.

I took this class in the fall but all this semester I keep going back to Dr. Snyder's comments. For my other classes now I realize how much Dr Snyder helped my writing. She is a tough grader but she also gives so much helpful feedback and was always willing to answer questions and talk through the process.I think about history differently now

I liked all the different readings she assigned. It wasn't just memorizing timelines for a test and you could talk about stuff you didn't learn in regular American history classes. She gave me tons of feedback on papers and it was a lot of work but she really does make time to help and answer questions

Dr Snyder is always available to help. She is even helping me with independent studies. She is easy to talk to, supportive, and she really pushes you. I thought I was a good writer but she has helped really improve my writing and supported me for fellowships even! I really like all the different types of reading we did.

Dr. Snyder is an extremely demanding professor but you will come out of this class so much more prepared for your career as a historian. Beware though, you must do well on the 5 major writing assignments or you will not do well in this course. She is always happy to provide help and feedback - so ask her well ahead of the due date and she will.

I have never worked so hard. I thought I was a good writer but Prof Snyder really pushed me. I didn't do well on the first paper, but she reads any drafts you send her ahead of time and she go over every comment and question. My assignments grades went up in every one of my classes after her feedback. Worth it!

This is my third class with Prof Snyder. She always gives so much feedback and she has what she calls buffer grades--like rewrites, and extra discussions to help your grade. She is tough on papers but she knows what she's talking about and will answer all your questions and even read it before you submit

There is a lot reading just between the textbooks and presentation maps she makes but I really like all the sources from the time that we get to read. The movie analysis was actually pretty fun and she gives a lot of feedback to help with your writing. I don't think history is for me but this has had some interesting stuff

I loved all the readings in the class. It's all about food and clothes and you get the option to cook for your final project! Super fun. She's a tough grader but my grades have gotten better in all of my history classes because of her feedback. She pushes you.

I've taken three classes with Dr Snyder. She is a tough grader because she really pushes you. She reads drafts and conferenced with you on a Saturday because of my work schedule. She always has interesting readings and gives you a lot of leeway on your research topics.

Prof. Snyder was great! She graded everything very fairly and would really just give you a C for turning the work in. She was very kind and did not have a crazy workload, I was required to turn in one discussion a week that just had to be over 100 words, occasionally there would be a paper too but they were not very hard (2-3 pages).

Dr. Snyder is a demanding yet insightful professor. The course workload is heavy, but her detailed feedback helps improve writing skills. unstuck study is a great study tool to complement her teaching.

The semester isn't even over yet but I have to say that I have never been pushed so hard to improve my writing and change my thinking--in the best way. The questions that Dr Snyder asks, and how much time she is willing to take to meet and chat with students is more than any professor I've had. I'm already looking to take more classes with her.

Dr Snyder's classes are tough but fun. She gives you so many different perspectives and is always available to answer questions and help. I've taken every class she has offered.

Dr. Snyder did not teach AMH 2010 in Spring 2025. I wish I had taken that course with her so I feel for the student who had a bad experience. Frontier America is a fun course/ I learned so much more about American history. Thinking about the definitions of "frontier" is something I'd never thought about before and I enjoyed the different readings

Dr. Snyder was one of the harder classes that I have taken in my entire college experience, but keep in mind this was the final history class for history majors. She's tough but always willing to help and go the extra mile. If you take her, don't be afraid to email her, she's extremely nice. Her grading is a little tough but I think it's beneficial

I'm pretty sure she told you that "endnotes or works cited are not the same as in-text references and footnotes." And she always answers any questions you have. I learned that in my first semester with her. She means it when she says she expects standard format as well. She has a whole course with instructions and examples.

Dr Snyder has been super helpful and available answering questions and giving detailed feedback. Apparently half the class doesn't know what a syllabus is so she had to email us a bunch but she's always on top of everything. The class has some fun readings and lots of extra material.

Class is straight forward and not too demanding. The professor answers emails right away, addresses any problems, and you get to watch movies for assignments. It changed the way I looked at some movies which was cool.

Wow. I took this course in the spring as my last required major course and I learned so much. I thought I was a good writer, but this class really pushed me. Dr. Snyder made me even better and she was always willing to chat and conference and answer questions right away. It's a tough class, you won't get 100s on papers, but I learned so much.

This class had a lot of information. As a biology major, I appreciated all the resources to explain terms and assignments. Quizzes and first draft are easy grade bumps and she was in constant communication with the class all summer. Seriously the most involved and present online prof I've ever had

Get ready to learn to write like you've never done before. I'd never done a critical book review and my first grade was rough but she was available any time to answer questions, give lots of feedback, talk about the books, read drafts, and bounce ideas off of. She is a stickler for footnotes but they're not as scary as they seemed at first

This was my first upper level History class. I really appreciated getting to dive into topics instead of just memorize maps or take basic quizzes. Those things are easy but I found myself getting really excited about the new and different readings we had and doing discussion each week.
