Avoid if possible. Short classes. Unclear explanation of material. Very difficult exams. Easy assignments. Very long final exam (50 multible choice & 5 long qestions with 3 or 4 parts each). This class is almost self-learning.
Amarjit really cares about his students. He is extremely energetic, and has a good sense of humor.
The Edwards School of Business is very lucky to have Amarjit as a member of their team. He shares his diverse knowledge and in-depth experience of the field of finance to the class and makes the subject interesting to learn. He is very approachable and always willing to help students become successful. I would take another class with him again
Amarjit is a really great guy who truly cares about his students. The material he teaches is tough, but he goes above and beyond to help his students succeed if you are willing to put in the effort. If you don't understand something, go to his office hours! He is really helpful. I really enjoyed learning from Amarjit.
Cares about his students, always approachable and super nice guy! Definitely would take another class from him again.
Rambles for hours and does one chapter a day
Does not get points across very well and gets mixed up often when doing examples on the board. Slides are packed with formulas and words all in different colors that makes it very hard to follow along. Marks fair though and genuinely cares about the students. Overall I would not take another class with him.
A great professor who is very nice and care for his student.
Great professor, great class.
A great professor.
Professor Gill cares a lot about his students. The course is tough BUT he goes a VERY long way and makes sure his students understand the material. He is approachable and always ready to help. If you put in the work (DON'T SKIP CLASS), then you will end up with a great mark! I enjoyed his class very much.
I actually enjoyed the course!
Really nice guy. Helps you in all possible ways. Gives assignments which are easy and similar to midterm. Final was hard. But overall a good prof. I would definitely take his class again.
Amarjit is a happy guy and seems to want his students to succeed. Besides that, he is an incredibly mistake prone and unknowledgeable professor. There are at least 3-4 typos in assignments, handouts, and quizzes. Keep in mind that this is a calculation heavy class and a typo in the numbers of a question has a tremendous impact.
Amarjit has to be one of the most caring professors at Edwards. He will do whatever it takes to get his students to pass including giving out many bonus marks. However, Amarjit struggles to clearly teach the course material and speeds through like he has somewhere urgent to go.
Seems very caring about his students. Trying to help his students out the best he can. Will try and find more classes to take with him.
Dr. Gill is a great professor. He is a very friendly guy and is always willing to help you before and after class along with his office hours. I appreciated the practice quizzes that were handed out regularly. Strongly suggest to take this class with him
Dr. Gill is an awesome professor! Genuinely cares about his students and wants all to succeed. Very helpful both in and outside of classroom time. Gives out lots of practices questions/quizzes in class that are extremely beneficial. Will be looking to take as many classes with him as possible.
Jeeter stands out among Professors at the U of S for his approachability and his passion for helping all his students. He will go out of his way to ensure all students are understanding the concepts and gives good in class quiz's to provide students with confidence heading into exams. Great proff, would recomend.
Any lucky fellow? 10/10 would take his class again.
Very interactive with his students. His dedication and enthusiasm towards impacting knowledge on his students is truly inspiring. Definitely one of the best professors Edwards has to offer.
Amarjit Gill is a very enthusiastic Professor who is always looking to take care of his students. Professor Gill takes pride in his students doing well and by doing so creates a very comfortable friendly environment with the people around him. I would without a doubt have Amarjit Gill teach me again.
Great guy, cares about his students. Gives you lots of practice for the midterm and final. Also finishes teaching his classes early to give time to work on assignments or ask him questions.
A lot of practice questions and questions + Assignments. 1st midterm is can be easy. 2nd midterm can be very challenging However, if you do all practice regularly and attend lectures, your marks is granted to pass the class. the prof is fair, easy going and sometimes humorous. He is one of amazing profs in Edwards.
Skip the lectures when he teaches annuity unless you want to pee your pants laughing at how he pronounced annuity and annuity due. Eventually he started laughing with me but I dont think he knew what I was laughing at
One of the best professors I have ever had! He really goes above and beyond to do his best to help you understand the material and succeed. I highly recommend taking him if you need this course. Especially if you're seeking a degree where you need an understanding of the material.
Great prof. Very respectful to everyone and considers students' concerns when giving assignments. In class, he explains the topics pretty well and has clear slides that match the textbook, but you still need to read and practice with the textbook to do OK. Class average must be in the 70s, so expect a hard Midterm or Final with easy assignments.
Very caring about his students. wants to make sure they have everything they need to succeed in his classes. Really enjoyed listening to him and his lectures.
PRO'S is that he gives a tonne of questions to practice CON's is you need to read the textbook for the theory part He's a really nice professor and really wants his students to do well.
Honestly a terrible professor all around. You don't learn ANYTHING from him. He rushes as fast as he possibly could through the slides and gives a quiz on these slides every class. His slides look like they are from 8th grade social studies. Also, the way that he chose to handle the grading distribution during this pandemic is awful. AVOID him!!
Overall a kind guy with good intentions, but not a good prof. Lectures were rushed and mostly just read through. His slides were disorganized and difficult to understand, and most of my knowledge came from reading the textbook and looking at examples online. Quizzes and homework assigned every class with students providing answers in class
He's a good professor in the sense that Finance requires alot of math, so he gives you the practice you need but because of that he rushes through his slides. If you read the textbook and practice with the questions and homework he provides, you will do fine. He just teaches a very difficult course and it's all about practicing.
He is a really nice prof and very kind. Available whenever you need help and wants each student to succeed.
Gill is a great prof, hes very helpful . He makes sure everyone understand Finance concepts . If you wanna pass 203 with good marks, take this prof.
Dr. Gill devotes so much time to his students. He teaches not because he has to, but because he believes his students will benefit from the knowledge. This is why he works so hard to make sure every student understands the content. If you are willing to learn, he is the greatest professor.
HE NEVER REPLIES TO MY EMAILS!! How am I suppose to get in touch with him if he never replies to my emails?! If it was a regular class it would not be such a big deal for me but this is an online course. So frustrating!
barley speaks the language and is impossible to understand. along with that he also crafts tests that have nothing to do with what he teaches in class. being online does not help for sure, but the fact that I can study his slides and notes he gives us and still be clueless. my friends all back this. avoid this prof at all costs
I struggle to understand him in lectures. I find this reflects into my assignments and tests where I struggle. All other student I know in his class are currently struggling or having issues. The tests are not timed long enough to actually calculate the answers needed to answer. It may be due to online learning, but it feels like a lost cause.
DR. Gill genuinely wants his students to succeed! He expects you to put the work required but if he sees that you are struggling he is always there to lend out a hand. grading was fair and we were given many opportunities to earn extra credits. would definitely take again.
Good Prof, Better Friend
Honestly, my favourite professor at Usask. Not only are his lectures clear but he also gives lots of guidance and prep material for exams. The best part is that he is so funny, loved attending his classes!
Professor Gill is not a good professor. His powerpoints are horrible and during the live lectures, he doesn't even understand his own examples. During the lecture, he only talks about how he has gone above and beyond for us and we shouldn't expect that from any other prof when really he is the worst prof I have had. Also does not reply to emails.
He is a great prof, very dedicated and knowledgable. If you do homework and attend class, you will pass the class.
Professor Amarjit Gill is a great guy. He likes everyone to pass his courses. If you follow his instructions, do homework and attend classes, you will be able to pass. The materials may be heavy, so be ready from day 1. Make sure you have a good formula sheet for exams as there will be many calculations in this course.
This guy is kind of a meat head. Super caring guy and wants everyone to succeed. His class is easy enough so if you're just looking to pass then definitely take it with him. His online delivery method was not great at all. His midterm was pretty tough too but he curves up when he can. He's super nice, just not great at actually teaching.
Amarjit is a one of a kind prof who DEFINITELY makes lectures interesting. He has a charismatic and fun personality that makes your day. During the lectures, he will drop hints as to what will be on the tests, or he will specifically tell you questions to study. He really wants his students to succeed and helps them out a lot just have to ask!
Finance is... finance. Very fair professor with clear expectations. Tests are easy (M/C with short answers) but you NEED to read the course material and attend lectures to do well. If you don't keep up with material, you'll regret it so make sure you stay on track. Other than that, solid prof choice. Super nice guy.
assignments are easy, lectures are brutal
The most friendly professor I have seen. Always offering helps if you needed. It is not a difficult class if you put your actual effort in it.
It's a nice professor. Although the slides do not cover all the test questions, if you pay attention in the lecture and read the textbook. You could safely pass the exam.
Do not skip the class since every class is counted for attendance. Do not hesitate to ask questions because this professor will always answer you in a patient way.
Amarjit is always great. Worksheets can be annoying, but they do help and sometimes are repeated on exams.
Not an easy class but amarjit is great. assignments are a good indication of what will be on tests
lots of theory and a group project. class was tough, but marked fairly and amarjit is always helpful if you need it
heavy theory, textbook is required. Exams and group project werent bad. Amarjit is awesome and knows the content well
Half theory, half calculation. One group project. Course is not easy, but don't worry, Amarjit is very friendly and helpful. Handouts and homework are really useful.
Handouts and quizzes are really useful for exams.
Prof. Gill always cares about all the students. During this hard online class time, he replies to emails quickly and friendly and helpful to answer your questions. Did enjoy this class.
Dr. Gill does an excellent job at explaining the course material. He encourages students to ask questions and is always willing to help. He is a very respectful professor that genuinely cares about the students.
About as good as you can get in a class like this (I don't like finance). Exams were weirdly worded and confusing at times but he was pretty easy on the gradings. He also seemed confused on how the Canvas exams worked as he thought it could access our webcams but it did not. Assignments weren't bad and helped keep my marks up
Amarjit is good. He's available at all hours of the day to answer any questions you have, albeit, you may have to ask multiple times before he actually addresses your question adequately. This class was curved nearly 8% overall, and Amarjit told students 10 marks of the 35 marks on the final, and yet the average pre-curve was 55%. Bus Students LOL
I have learned so much from the professor honestly. He has an amazing way of breaking things down so that they are understandable, and always keeping it light and fun and his lessons were engaging and useful.I would highly recommend you take with him. HHe is always there to answer your questions. One of the best professor. youdo the effort to pass!
Amarjit is the most approachable professor you can find at the University of Saskatchewan, He truly care about his students and willing to support them through out leaning and even job hunting. He is the guy you want to add to your reference list. His exam is fair and no need to worry about passing.
One of the best Professors at the University. His lectures are amazing and engaging. He responds to emails very quickly and he is very very helpful during class time and outside of class. Exams and quizzes are fair if you pay attention in class!
Prof Amarjit Gill was anazing. I truly enjoyed his lectures and he is very helpful and provides excellent support and communication to students. I highly recommend taking his class.
Amarjit is a mixed bag. He is a fair grader and will work personally with struggling students outside class. But he gives the impression that he expects students to already fully understand content coming into class. He is very "show, don't tell," because he will push through practice problems without allowing students to attempt the question.
I am not a finance major. Amarjit is a very fair finance prof and his homework/assignments are very helpful for understanding the course content. He sometimes tries to make the course sound scarier then it is. I thoroughly enjoyed the class/assignments. Not to mention he is a funny and goofy guy which makes it even better
Amarjit is just not a good prof. His lectures are horrible but you have to go because he marks attendance. The average for the two midterms pre curve was a 54. I mean the class content is kind of hard, but not that hard. After bad experiences with other profs and amarjit I am now seriously considering leaving the college.
professor Amarjit Gill was amazing. I truly enjoyed his lectures and very detail to the questions. Very enjoy the assessments have more practice. When I asked questions after the class he was so patiently. If I have chance to take his class again will definitely to it.
Amarjit is one of the kindest Professors you'll meet at USask. He calls his students his family members. The lectures are difficult, but if you pay attention and make sure to do the Homework and Quizzes, you'll be good. He gives everyone extra points to help. Class averages for the 3 sections were from 70-74. Show up and do the work!
Super kind and understanding, fair marker. Having said that this class is very content heavy and he is not good at explaining things, so you had better read the text also. His accent might take you a class or two to figure out, but it's good after that. He isn't the worst prof you could get but he isn't the best either.
Very nice and helpful professor.
His teaching style could be better. His lecture slides are really heavy, difficult to understand and hard to catch up. He writes things on the board that nobody can see because his font is so small, uses incorrect formulas and methods that are plainly bizarre. He expects students to participate in class when nobody knows what he is currently doing.
Nice guy. Friendly. Completing homework was helpful for tests.
The lectures are hard to understand with all of his highlights on the slides and his accent. He tries to write formulas on the whiteboard but his font is so small that you cannot read it. Gives high marks on assignments which are super helpful. Overall, he is a below-average prof and the wording of test questions is very difficult to understand.
Prof Amarjit is very kind. He calls all of his students his friends and family which always puts a smile on my face. Write down what he puts on the white board. Do the homework and quizzes and you can manage an A.
Amazing guy who really cares about his students. He wants everyone to succeed and he does everything to make sure that happens
He sets the course up very well and cares about his students, so if you show up to lectures and do the work u will get a good grade
I had the honour to have a class with Amarjit. He has an amazing memory and remembers students names. He is caring, knowledgeable, and good at making a balance between lecture and practice parts. He works so hard to prepare the material. Tip - Please attend the classes and follow the material. Looking forward to take some more class with him.
This is my 2nd class with him and will surely take more classes with Amarjit if I get the chance. The quizzes and the handouts are very helpful and he genuinely wants the best for his students. Overall his lectures and teaching style is amazing.
Showing up to all the classes, you will know a good chunk of the final exam. In his classes, you will do lots of exam preparation, which truly does help. As many are aware, his slides are very dense, however if you enjoy the facts and want to read further his slides are an excellent choice. Professor Gill really does want to see you succeed.
Prof Gill is one of the best and kindest professor in the university, he is very patience with students and I enjoyed his lectures as he explain concepts and ideas very clearly. His classes are highly recommended!
Amarjit is always very kind and has a good sense of humor. The exams can sometimes be challenging, but if you study the quizzes and examples he gives and make a good cheat sheet you will easily succeed in his courses.
Professor Gill is not only one of the kindest profs/people I have ever met. He cares a lot for his students he treats everyone like a part of his family. He is very clear on what to do when calculating values in class. His lectures are also very well structured he comes in before class to prepare the boards. I would recommend taking his classes.
HIs lectures can be hard to get through and he talks about himself a lot, however it is easy to get a good grade in his class and he is very generous with his grading.
Energetic and friendly, Professor Gill delivers a fairly easy and engaging class in Comm 368.
When you take any finance course, Amarjit should be the first option you choose. He truly treats every student as family. Although the course, can be heavy and difficult Amarjit teaches in such a way that goes over many examples and drives home the central points. One of my favourite professors at the university.
Amarjit Gill is honestly one of the best profs out there. I would say Gill was very similar to Carolyn Augusta! Both very effective professors! COMM 203 is not easy, but Gill provides so many recourses and really good lectures. When I pick my classes next term, I will be looking to take classes with him!
I think it is fair to say his class is HARD. To say otherwise would be a lie. A-lot of his questions on the exam were ambiguous so unless your good at that, its hard to do super well (some I would say are plain dumb). That said, he provides a good amount of prep material so if you spend the time and so all prep, you can crack out a 90+.
Honestly this course isn't hard but there's just so much material to cover that doesn't flow together nicely. However, Amarjit gives lots of practice and it easy to receive an 80 or more on any graded assignment or test. I find the tests are hard theory wise but Amarjit makes it easy to get practice in and get a good grade.
I highly recommend Professor Amarjit for his exceptional support and genuine care for his students. He listens to concerns, both in and out of class, and goes the extra mile to help. He even provided me with a reference after university. Truly outstanding! I am truly grateful for the positive impact Professor Amarjit has had on my academic journey.
I really enjoyed Amarjit's class. He keeps things interesting and is very funny. I would recommend going to class. If you do the quizzes and study them you will do fine.
Professor Gill is the worst professor I have had in my university career thus far. He is extremely hard to understand (does not speak english), rushes through lectures and slides, and provides many practice resources...except does not explain any of the answers. Do not take this course if you don't know how to teach yourself content.
Took his class because of good ratings but it wasn't accurate at all. It's so hard to understand his lectures because of his thick accent. The midterm was one of the hardest exams I've ever taken, the practise questions didn't help at all. Everyone struggled with the midterm. The cheat sheet didn't help, his questions are extremely hard.
The best prof you could ever ask for! He is super caring and always enthusiastic! Taking his class makes finance a lot easier!!!
Amarjit goes above and beyond to ensure that every student has a deep understanding of the subject matter. They take the time to explain complex concepts in a way that is easy to grasp and are always willing to provide additional support when needed. What sets Amarjit apart from other profs is his connection with students on a personal level.
Excellent teacher
Gud teacher Have in-depth knowledge of subject
Very supportive teacher Having Gud command over subject
Effective teacher and very caring
All the reviews below (Dec 18th/23) are from Gill himself - easy to tell. Stay away from this class if you want higher than a ~73-75%. Otherwise, enjoy riding the curve and tight grade spread. You'll get a 80% on the group project no matter what. Easy to moderate midterm & blowout hard final - no amount studying can help you on the multiple choice.
Bit tough class, but the professor really cares about helping students. Provides good enough material and examples to practice.
A great professor who cares about his students. Dr. Amarjit Gill is available to answer questions and provides lots of practice questions. The grading criteria is clear. Tests are difficult and require critical thinking, but it is possible to get a high mark if you put the work in. You can learn a lot from this class.
Professor Gill is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about personal finance. The course material was organized, and Professor Gill always took the time to explain complex topics in an understandable manner. Highly recommend for anyone looking to gain a solid foundation in personal finance!
It is clear that Professor Gill really wants his students to succeed. Come to class, study the practice quizzes and you will do well in this course. Highly recommend!
Professor Gill was an amazing prof as he really cares about his students and wants them to succeed in this course. He's definitely been one of the best professors I've had here at Edwards and make sure to attend his lectures and you should do well in this course.
Amarjit Gill is a caring professor who goes above and beyond in helping students. There are lots of opportunities to practice through assignments, homework questions, and quizzes. The course is well-organized, and the grading criteria is clear. Would recommend taking a course with Amarjit.
He's the kind of prof who cares about his students and he just have the best heart.
I would 100% recommend Professor Gill for Comm 203..Very accommodating and respectful to all students..He also does give some meaningful advice to all students. Take notes and attend all the lectures and you would do great!
I would 100% recommend Professor Gill for Comm 368..Very accommodating and respectful to all students..He also does give some meaningful advice to all students. Take notes and attend all the lectures and you would do great!
Honestly he is a good professor, just read the textbook chapters before class then do the practice questions after class and you will honestly understands whats happening in the class. I have taken multiple classes with him and I would take another class with him again!
He is such a nice prof,if you catch up all of the homework and quizzes you will get a good mark.
"Any lucky fellow" He's my goat
Professor Gill was a really good professor and created a great environment to work in, he made it easy to want to come to class!
Amarjit really cares about his students, if you show up to class and put in the effort to learn then the class is easy. Students are not required to attend class but the experience is much better if you do. I would 100% recommend Amarjit for any class.
A great professor who truly cares about his students. Show up to class, and you will do very well in his course.
I did find that Comm 203 was challenging for myself. However, Professor Gill gives lots of optional homework, quizzes, and practice exams that will prepare you very well for exams if you choose to use them. He is incredibly knowledgeable, deeply cares about students, and will answer any questions you may have. He marks everything very quickly.
Professor Gill is one of the best Prof out there at Usask. Really care's about his students and genuinely wants everyone to do well in the course. His exams are slightly theory heavy but he makes sures everyone practices the questions through his quiz so that the exams turn out easy.
Amarjit is an amazing professor who really cares about his students. It is impossible to fail the course unless you are trying to. He is a super fast grader and is very fair when grading. He is incredibly knowledgeable and can answer any finance question without needing to look at the textbook. Take a class with him if you can!!!
Professor Amarjit Gill has been one of my favourite professors. His humour and energy makes the class a lot more intellectually stimulating, and he really cares for his students. He shows this through little life lessons beyond the scope of the class and provides you with multiple resources to succeed.
Amarjit's class is challenging but rewarding. Attend lectures, use the textbook, and try unstuck study - it really helped with exam prep. Grading is fair, and Amarjit is eager to help students succeed.
He had to take over our COMM 203 class 1 month into the term, and made the switch very easy. He worked slow with every student in our class making sure he didn't confuse anyone. Always keep the class in a light mood with jokes and reassurance.
amazing prof, quick in grading assignments and tests
Good professor, he is always laughing and explaining through personal experiences. Homework was graded easily, so many students got good marks on the 2 assignments. The midterm and final were difficult, but Professor Gill wants everyone to pass, so he does what he can on those exams through curving. Putting in average effort will get you a 60%-65%.
He is very patient to answer all the questions you have. The quiz and tests are not difficult, and lecture quality is good. The home practice questions and quiz are helpful for the preparation of tests.
Amarjit is a great teacher. This class is utterly brutal. Put in the most effort, and it was still my worst class. Utterly hard, and the tests feel like they are covering concepts you've never heard of. The hardest part of this class is the multiple-choice questions, while the written is easy. The textbook is truly needed to do good.
The tests in this class are brutal. The average on both the midterms was both low 60s, which ended up having to be curved to get their. Amarjit does provide a large amount of practice problems, but the theory-based questions are just brutal. Amarjit is kind and caring and wants to help you do well in this class. The class is just insanely hard.
Final was a blood bath. Theory was brutal, concepts we've never hear of. Amarjit is genuinely a nice guy and grades extremely fast but he doesn't explain a lot of things, Chatgtp basically taught me finance. Studied my butt off for the final and guessed on over half of the multiple choice.
Amarjit Gill is a good prof, he may seem hard at the start but if you put in the work he provides lots of material to be prepared for every test. If you take his class you may be one lucky fello.
He is such a nice guy. However, his lectures and his slides are hard to follow along. I get lost during his lectures and would have to teach myself the material. I appreciated the amount of practice problems he gave us and how quickly he graded things.
Overall Amarjit was pretty fair and was pretty honest about what he wanted to see and what he expected. I will say sometimes his stories or explanations could be glossed over. The best part was he is very generous with grades and more willing to offer many opportunities for extra points. I will say the PowerPoints are a nightmare to navigate.
Madame Morrible, Flip it around, Wicked Witch. The professor wants you to succeed and is nice but the class is brutal. The slides are a litte hard to navigate and he doesn't explain it deeply. You have to answer questions with calculations in class. There are a lot of practice questions but the tests are very brutal. Be prepared.
How come no one mentioned you have to do calculations in class and he asks for the answer, not a bad guy the class is just hard. I don't think he's a good explainer, but he's a good guy. Very hard, prepare to do a lot of work but he provides a lot of practice questions. The midterms and finals... just pray and grind
Good prof, very approachable. easy assignment. Attend all classes and understand content. overall good prof
