Great teacher, kept it interesting.

She is a good teacher. In order to pass her class, you have to attend every day and do all her essays. She does give tests, but they are easy, you are allowed to use your notes and they are not really important to pass the class. I recommend you to take her.

Interactive type of class.No boring lectures, participation is inportant, engage in debates, She has a nice attitude, she reads and grade homework and essays and gives feed back. The homework and test are extremely easy.

No doubt this is the easiest class on campus. The debates are free points if you just show up and write an essay about what you know/learned; however, she likes sources so throwing tidbits you know require some kind of source. Not really a class just more of a political discussion hour. Participation is important so participate.

This professor is an inspiration. I only wish every professor was like her. She is the change we need to see in this world.

i love ms. Black, i would love to have her again, she explains everything at her best, it is not a teach yourself type of class because she does. oh plus she has a really pleasing voice, i can just sit there and hear listen o her all day.

She made Sociology interesting. I had her when she first taught the class and I was hooked every day. She really understands how to get students attention and challenge the class to participate. I recommend her over any soc 1 teacher.

Professor Black is awesome. She is very open minded and understanding of social issues affecting on the large scale as well as on interpersonal levels. She encourages REAL thinking, and if you like sociology like me, you will find her assignments to be worthwhile and push you to grow in connecting issues/causes & effects/inequality.

Professor Black is one of my favorite teachers! I took her Sociology 001 class and loved it. I actually enjoyed going to class. Her lectures are intriguing and interesting. She is very nice and understands her students. I will only take sociology classes with her.

Mrs. Black is one of those dedicated professors who take the time to enrich her students with knowledge. She assigns a reading reflection every week and the tests are cake. You will need the book (unfortunately, the text is a bit boring), but she does not require the newest edition. Good teacher to take for a basic intro class.

she is very clear to understand, you know what to expect, there is no surprises with her, and she makes class interesting. she has a nice personality and cares for her students.

2nd time taking this prof. She's so passionate about her work and listens to everones input. For the summer, we had to do 1 project//presentation. No tests, but homework is mostly writing about your opinion and expressing it. Easy and fun class, you wont regret it.

Amber is absolutely wonderful. She will have her occasional mood swings but who doesn't. She is very passionate and interested in everyones perspective in the course. Tests are open book which actually has helped me retain more information than any other tests. I quote her until this day! I feel like a mini Amber Black! love you Black ur amazeballs

GREAT TEACHER!! One of my favorite teachers! She is passionate about sociology and is a great teacher! She is an easy grader. She just wants you to learn and wants you to participate in group discussions, which are usually interesting!

Great professor! She's pretty laid back and very approachable. We did use the textbook a lot because we had to do chapter reviews often. 15 page research paper that was broken up into 3 parts. Highly recommend this prof!

She is amazing! Everything is set and clear on the first day! You know everything you will need to do. She basically tells you and teaches everything that is going to be on tests and exams, and she gives extra credit a lot. Absolutely wonderful professor, and I promise you will leave the class with such helpful tools and resources.

I loved her! She is really nice and funny, she takes the time to explain everything if you have problems with understanding. You'll get a good grade if you hand everything in in time and pay attention. The test are not too hard, either.

Fun class. Lectures are insightful and welcomes opinions and participation. A few small group discussions. Get ahead on the reading and stay ahead and the class will be a breeze. There are papers due for most of the reading, but she outlines how to write your paper clearly. Grading starts out of lower point totals, so best not be unprepared.

i took the winter intersession which still had the same assignments as in a semester and it flew by, she made it all the better when we did 6 essays in 14 days, although it was an accelerated course i would definitely recommend her an entire semester long. shes great! :)

great lectures and debates among classmates about very current issues among Americans and our culture. the teacher is passionate for what she is teaching.

Prof. Black was my favorite professor at COD. I love how organized she is, and how clear she made her expectations. SOC004 was not an easy class, there was a lot of writing assignments, but she gave us the opportunity to choose our own topics, which made the lengthy assignments bearable. Black clearly loves what she does, and is a wonderful prof.

RaceEthnicity easy A, show up ON TIME, do a few small 2 page essay homework, and a group presentation. Dont chicken out cause of the presentation (its easy and chill)!! Shes a great professor and is so awesome to walk in the morning and hear her rants. She's INSPIRATIONAL! She'll change your mind about society and race or just make you more aware

She actually teaches in a way that gets you into the material. I never fell asleep in there and it was and 8am class so that says something. She assigns reading reflections but only like 6 and they are basically like read the chapter and tell me what you think. There is only two test and they are so easy because she makes you get the material.

SOC 14 was overall a great experience. Gives a bigger understanding of the underlining issue of racism in the United States. class is out of 100 points. It sounds intimidating, but don't fret. gives extra credit. 15 min group presentation. This class was an outlet for a lot of students. Take advantage of it. Black cares about the students.

Took her during the summer. She only gave extra credit once and i missed t but i still got an A in the class. She is a very happy person, you wont mind going to class. My favorite class by far. Expect to write papers!!

As long as you do the assignments and take notes you will pass. If you put in the extra effort you will get an A. Super nice teacher who made class enjoyable and easy to sit through. Would definitely take her again.

Shes good teacher, I'm not into sociology so I didn't agree with everything she taught.

soc 2 class is largely group discussion and group discussions. lets you have a cheat sheet for the test. If you participate and show up to class, you will get a good grade

I loved Prof Black. Her lectures and glass discussions keep you awake and interested. She is passionate about what she does. Yes you get a lot of assignments but, this is college. Get over it. Only downfall was the amount of time she took to grade. I think waiting a week sometimes more for a grade is annoying and slightly disrespectful.

Amber Black is one of the best professors in COD I've ever taken. She is very inspirational and passionate to guide her students to succeed. Expect to do reading reflections, group work, essays and presentations. Midterm and final exams were simple. I highly recommend taking this class if you're into sociology.

This was my first year with Mrs. Black. She gives great notes and the homework is easy, which you do online. There is a lot of participation, but it is fun to hear others opinion on the topic. The test are easy if you study the study guide. I would take her again.

Black at first seemed like a tyrant but she ended up being very easy going and the class was not hard at all.

She's a really great teacher! Extremely easy assignments her grading scale is 100pts so you can easily know what grade you get. Plenty of opportunities for extra credit Miss 3 classes she'll dock points

Ive had professor Black for many classes and I enjoyed every single one! Her lectures on interesting never boring! Her tests are a piece of cake because she makes them easy for you to pass! She expects you to write, but everything she assigns is fairly easy! she gives great feedback! she only gives one big paper that she offers to help with!

Professor Black was the best teacher I've had so far. She is passionate about Sociology, and I learned so much about a subject I thought was going to be boring and hard to pass. She makes sure you GET IT with her teaching style. She gives you the testing criteria and what the test will include, and she does NOT have trick questions. Easy to pass!

I'm really glad I took critical thinking, we had weekly discussions that were easy, a few 2 page papers, and a research paper so the amount of work she gives is fair and worked well with my busy schedule. She's clear, helpful, and gives feedback. I would highly recommend taking her class!

This is the best professor! Super nice I am so happy to have taken her class. only homework was to read a chapter a week but Its super easy, we would do the "homework" in class with a group. Her test were also very fair I thought they were easy. Needed to present and write a five page research paper which is due towards end of semester.

reading the textbook is essential to understanding the concepts, bc she doesn't go over everything on her pwpt's. 3 exams. gives out study guides. sometimes made the tests open book/open notes. 10 labs. group work. 1 research paper. she is understanding and very approachable. take soc 3 in person! online is hard unless you're good at stats.

Great professor, covers the needed material required for the class but also keeps it relevant to current social issues. Great class discussions and respects everyone's opinion. Homework is simple and due dates are clear and ahead of time. Only 2 essays and they were simple and interactive. Overall, great class thanks to a great professor.

Stats is a tough subject, but Professor Black made it enjoyable and easy to understand. The labs can be tough if you don't read the chapters she assigns, so read, take notes, and show up. You're attendance is part of your grade in her class. Overall, great professor. She responds back to emails and gives help in class.

Professor Amber Black was probably the best professor I have taken all of my years at COD. She is so inspirational, she is so caring and helpful and she is so passionate about her course. She loves her students and the only thing she does not like is when you are late. Besides that, she is so fair and awesome and her work is incredibly easy && fun!

I thoroughly enjoyed her class. She is not a fan of standardized testing and would prefer that you write using concepts and terms in how they relate to you or your life experiences. She uses a very interesting technique for the writing assignments- SPUNKI. All professors need to implement this, it helped me a lot!

Professor Black is one of the best educators I have ever been a student under. Her syllabus, examples, and grading criteria is very clear. I believe it is because of this that her course allows the student to learn stress-free. ( because who is really able to learn well under stress). I completely recommend taking her course.

Professor Black has been one of the best Professors I have taken at College of the Desert. Critical thinking involved quite a few papers but her grading is clear from the beginning of the semester. If you give it your all there is no way you can fail, she is encouraging throughout the entire semester and is full knowledge.

Shes very informative and passionate about what she teaches. I thoroughly enjoyed this class because of how dynamic it was. The course work is pretty simple and straight forward. Quizes are also very easy. Be prepared to write a lot of papers though. I highly recommend this teacher!

Took her online course during the Winter. Class consisted of weekly discussion boards and a quiz, but the quizzes are available from the beginning to clear as you wish. Only other assignments were a chapter summary and a TED Talk summary.

This online class was easy. She did not give slides but did describe the chapters. This class consisted of short essays, discussions, quizzes and a paper. There was no midterm and final. There was also no extra credit. This is one of my favorite classes.

Weekly discussions. a few papers where you summarize the chapter you read and how they relate to your life. a few quizzes, 10 questions so fairly easy if you read. Not many assignments and they all add up 100 points so don't miss any because it's very easy to dig a hole you can't come back out from. never mentioned extra credit either

Prof Black is an amazing professor and person! Class is easy to pass if you put in the usual effort- discussions, quizzes, a couple reading responses, and a final paper. Some of the discussions are pretty deep/talk about personal views but she is always nice, respectful, and very helpful in her comments and announcements. Would highly recommend!

Professor Black has been my favorite professor so far and I cannot wait to take her next course after I finish the prerequisites. She gives you amazing feedback and provides her own personal views that allow you to relate to the topics you are covering in the class. I would recommend her class to anyone here looking.

This class was easy. I think there was 2 essays through out the course. Quizzes were easy. Discussions every week just about. I would of gotten a better grade if I actually tried but I will admit I slacked a lot. I was just trying to pass.

This is my second time around with having this amazing professor and let me tell you all she really cares and gives you wonderful feedback. Class comprised of a lot of group discussions and a few reflection essays but everything was pretty much accessible from the start. She has made my transition back into college life amazing.

I took Soc-004 over a 6-week summer term. She's crystal clear with grading & expectations and is quick to respond to msgs. Weekly discussions, in which you actually have to participate with meaningful thought. Good feedback. Three papers, including a final research paper, which you must cite the textbook. Professor Black genuinely cares is GREAT!

Amazing professor! I had her asynchronous class but even then she was great. She does require a book but you can find it on reddit for really cheap and the midterm/final are about the book. She gives one discussion post and one current event each week. I hate writing but didn't mind it. Easy grader, she reads and replies to our work which I loved.

This woman will make you want to switch your major! She is so into sociology that you can feel all that energy and enthusiasm during her lectures. A good amount of writing for homework which actually helps you to understand the material better. She's one of the coolest teachers on campus, very helpful and understanding!

Despite how much information must be covered, this professor is friendly, amazing at breaking down topics, and leaves time for class discussion. The two exams were incredibly easy, and she made finding the textbook simple. Make sure you know how to apply topics to the real world/your life, since assignments are about application, not memorization.

Professor Black is clear on what she is looking for! I took her winter intersession class and I would say the workload was sufficient. Three 3-page reflections per week along with a few discussions is doable. If you have a chance to take her class, do it!!!

I took this class as a 7-week class in Spring 2024. Professor Black is the best and the most passionate professor I could have taken at College of the Desert. She provides great feedback on your assignments and is generally flexible for all students. For this class, you will have an initial discussion, a mid-term, 5 current events, and a final.

Her class is super easy! I took her online and I passed the class with an easy A. Assignments are super easy, great discussion post questions that will make you reflect, weekly reaction papers like requires two pages, and only like 2 quizzes, and 6 page final. The final is very easy, just have time management and find an easy topic to research on.

I enjoyed having Professor Black this fall semester, I had her for Sociological Analysis/Critical Thinking. The class was easy, I wish I took the course sooner. Im earning a C because I didn't do the Research Paper nor the two Chapter Reading Reflections. I wish it was an exam for the final not a research paper but overall I really recommend her!

Professor Black is an excellent and caring professor. I recommend taking her class because it will expand your knowledge of critical thinking regarding assignments. She does have you complete a 15-page paper, but it is in three parts. You choose your topic, and she gives excellent feedback if needed. Get ready to talk.

Easy class and is very interesting. She is passionate and always willing to help. Textbook is required to complete the five reading reflections and doesn't require the latest edition. There is a mid-term and final but they are both manageable. Overall this class will not burn you out or stress you out. Easy A in my opinion.

Quizzes were timed & not repeatable, but enough time to consult notes. Requirements for all assignments were very clear. Assignments more time consuming than difficult. Read all directions, tips, & examples. Directions were clear. Deadlines were STRICT. Work ahead to give yourself plenty of time. She responded to questions the next school day.
