Math is really hard but I go to class because I cant stop staring at my teachers ass. She is just so beautiful,smart, and amazing.

This class was hard to begin with and sometimes she had a hard time explaining things so that they would make sense to the students. She was very approachable and nice, but hard to understand at times.

I usually hate math, but I really enjoy Amber's class. It may have been the topic, but I found her class really easy. She gives "pop" quizzes once a week, but the only trouble I had was with my luck, on the days i happened to not come to class, were the days she gave a quiz. Homework every day, but it's not that bad.

Amber is a really good professor, she explains everything very clearly and makes sure everyone understands the material. Tests are tough and she is a stickler with grading but fair-you just have to know the material.

Good professor, she makes everything really clear and makes sure that everyone understands. Really helpful out of class as well. Really knows what she's talking about, and enjoys teaching Calc. Tests and quizzes are tough, and she is a tough grader so you better study hard and do the HW. I recommend her to anyone who wants to learn/understand Calc.

I dont see what all the fuss is about, Amber is a great teacher and she loves math! If you loose points on her tests or quizzes, it's because you did the problem wrong!! just go to her office hours and she'll explain everything to you if you dont understand.

She is a good teacher, but a very tough teacher. Her t.a.'s mark you down for wrong answers on homework and the test are kind of difficult

Amber is a great teacher. I had her for both 124 and 125 and I learned everything really well. She explains everthing well and uses examples to demonstrate her point. Assignments and tests/quizes are not hard if you go to lecture and take notes.

I realize that everybody learns differently and that to judge a proffessor by this website is tuff. What I can say about Amber is that she does an excelent job at explaining the concepts but it is up to you to put the time in to study the material. It is not easy but if you study you will pass.

I think Hixson is a great prof, she explains everything really well and makes it easy. Sometimes she can't answer all your questions, but there is only so much time in the day. Take her math 112 over Mazack's!

I really enjoyed taking this class with Amber. She is nice and funny. But she doesnt like cell phones, dont be distracting! she likes when people ask questions. she will clarify if questions are asked. Math 112 is just a really hard class so ask questions if you are confused she is very helpful. She was a good teacher.

Amber is a very organized and straight forward professor. If you go to class every day, and do the homework, you WILL do well. She goes over all questions on homework in class. After quizzes and exams, she covers questions that were the most challenging (re: grade), and any other questions that students have (time allowing). I highly recommend! :)

I loved Hixson as professor! She goes very slow and almost treats you like you are in 2nd grade but that is so helpful in math. She grades great giving generous partial credit on problems. She is very fair about tests and dropping lowest exams. You definitely want her for math 112.

Extremely nice woman, but teaches too fast. She doesn't really explain things in class very well, but she's very approachable outside of class and will do what it takes to help you. Just go to her office during office hours and the lessons will become crystal clear!

Amber is a super nice and enthusiastic teacher. She may go a little fast at times in class but she's very helpful if you have any questions. I don't really see what people have to complain about. Overall I really liked her. Good prof.

Hixon is easily one of the best math teachers I have ever had. I'm not a math person, but I could always follow her lectures, and I could usually finish the homework just from using my notes. She is extremely accommodating during her office hours.

I love Amber! By far one of the best math teachers I've ever had. She is very helpful in office hours, and her lectures make homework easy most nights. I made sure to sign up for her 115 class as my first choice when registering!

Amber is a great person, she's very upbeat which transfers over in to her teaching, she has a very fast paced lecture style but if you pay attention, meaning you go to class and actively take notes you should be able to make your way through the homework. Her tests are fairly graded and she gets them back to you fairly fast.

Amber is very friendly and approachable, but pretty much the same kind of generic 100's level math teacher. Don't expect any personal help in class and stay on board or you will get left behind. Otherwise, Amber is a really nice lady and a decent teacher

Amber is my favorite math teacher so far. She is extremely energetic, her examples are helpful and clear, which makes it easy to attend class daily and pay attention. Tests are reasonable, and graded fairly. There is essentially daily homework but it rarely takes over an hour or so and really prepares you for tests and quizes. Highly recommended.

Not the best math teacher I've ever had, but it could have been a lot worse! She's fairly energetic and engaging, but she moves fast! She's super helpful in office hours though, so once you go to those she usually clears up any questions.

Amber was such a great teacher. She made concepts extremely clear and if you knew the homework material really well you are bound to do well on the quizzes and exams (even though they are more challenging). She's always enthusiastic and happy to answer questions. Class isn't mandatory but in order to receive a good grade you definitely need to go.

I love Amber's teaching, she moves fast yes but a lot of material to cover in 50 mins. Homework is fair and a grade booster, go to her office hours if you need help and she's great and wants you to do well. Exams are tough but study study study. I enjoy her a lot! :) took her for 115 and 157

Amber is a great professor. She may grade harshly, but she wants you to succeed. Her tests are fair. She is very helpful if you go see her during office hours. I would definitely recommend her for anyone who needs to take Math 157.

Everyone who is complaining about her as a bad teacher is completely wrong. Very upbeat and if you actually like math, which you should if you are taking math 125 or higher, then the class is a breeze. If you are inherently bad at math then don't leave negative comments about a teacher because of your incapacity to learn.she is a great teacher

Amber was super sweet and definitely loves math. I thought she was definitely a decent math professor. She's probably not the very best and clear you could find here at western, but overall she was a great, fun teacher.

I really liked Amber. I am NOT a math person but by going to class everyday and making sure to stay on top of the homeworks I did well. She was super helpful in office hours and cleared up all questions I had. Many people said they didn't like her, but those were the people that didn't go to class. It's no surprise you'll do poorly if you never go!

Amber is a really sweet and fun professor!! Sometimes she is not aware when the class does not understand a topic, but she is a fair grader. I had her for both 124 and 125 and really liked both quarters.

I like her a lot as a person. As a teacher she's terrible. She goes over really easy example problems but on the tests and quizzes she pulls out really complicated problems. She goes really fast, a new topic each day. If Math is your thing then you should be fine but if not consider taking someone else.

I have loved having Professor Hixson for Math 112! She has been more than helpful, and a great motivator. She really enjoys when students take advantage of her office hours, and trust me it helped me SO much! I highly recommend taking her for this class. Work hard and she will notice!

Loved having Amber as a teacher. We only have a limited amount of class time and she has to cover so much information so sometimes she can go fast but office hours and the math center helped me if i was ever unsure. She is so enthusiastic about math and she explains things very clearly. I had a great experience taking her class!

I really like Amber as a person. She is super enthusiastic and gives off very positive vibes. She is an alright math teacher. She obviously knows her stuff, but isn't always 100% clear. Her tests and quizzes tended to be harder than the material on the homework.

Amber was fun and enthusiastic about the subject but i'm not sure she did a good job on preparing us for the tests. Quizzes were easy but exams and ESPECIALLY THE FINAL were much harder than what we went over in class and in homework assignments. If you do take her class I HIGHLY recommend going over extra problems.

Hixson is a great professor. Her class was extremely organized which I appreciated a lot. Her grading was very fair and I always felt well prepared for the tests and quizzes. She did a great job at keeping the class enjoyable with her sense of humor. One of the best math professors I've had.

Lol. She loves math and you can tell! Really nice and explains things good, but she does over explain like, everything. She has office hours, but theres always like 5 people there so you have to wait. Her tests are hard, as in one test question 3 HW questions put together but if you redo each assignment in preperation for the tests you'll do ok.

I took 3 classes with Amber. Go to class everyday, if you miss a day get the notes from someone else. I studied my notes, homework and quiz's to study for the exam. I went to her office 1-3 times a week, any questions I had she would help me understand. Go to her office. She loves math and it shows, she is extremely nice and wants to help you.

Amber is a very fast lecturer, and sometimes we didn't spend enough time on a topic to really understand it. There is a quiz or exam every Friday and homework every day takes 30 to 60 minutes on average. I used the tutoring center and office hours regularly, and I still struggled with this material. Amber is very sweet and easy to talk to though.

Amber is great and very cheerful which makes class more bearable. She goes through topics very quickly; maybe 2 days max. and they will show up on the quizzes and exams worth a lot of points. She goes through the basics in class and the homework is usually tougher than what we learned that day. Expect homework every night. Textbook is required.

I don't know why Hixson is rated so poorly. I absolutely loved her this quarter, she's a really nice lady. People probably just don't her well because she teaches math, which isn't a very well liked subject. She's great at what she does.

Amber is the best! Very sweet. Absolutely adorable, always cheery. I took calc in high school so this was a lot of review for me but any questions I had I just took to office hours. She writes all the notes on the board you just copy them real quick. Often the examples in class are exactly like the hw questions. Assignments are not even that big.

She is a very good teacher. All her lectures are easy to understand but make sure to not miss class. If you study your notes and tests you should do fine. There is a quiz every other Friday and an exam the other Fridays.

I loved taking Calc with Hinson this quarter. She always comes into class cheery and upbeat, and is incredibly passionate about Calc, which isn't easy. While the class is definitely tough and requires a lot of studying and homework time, if you have to take Calc you might as well take it with a prof who really cares and enjoys teaching the subject.

Great teacher to have an 8am class with, especially math. You can tell she likes to teach math and be there for her students. Tests aren't that difficult if you pay attention in class. She explains things in different ways and is helpful during office hours. She also hold a Q&A day before a test, which is really helpful!

I took Math 114 with her also. She has a love fr math that really come through in her teaching. She'll answer any question and it's extremely helpful in her office hours. One of the best professors I've had at Western. If I could take all of my math classes with her I would.

She definitely has a passion for math and has a teaching style that, in my opinion, works really well with the course material. A lot of her methods and examples have less to do with memorizing formulas as opposed to remembering tricks drawing visuals. I will say that there's often stuff she doesn't go over that ends up on hw.

She is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She really loves math, and it shows in lectures. She very funny and caring. The material is tough (although I suck a math) but she creates examples that are really easy to follow along. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

One of the best math professors I've ever had. She goes through each step of a problem thoroughly, and makes it really easy to follow. You can tell she really cares about her students and what she does. Always available for extra help. I'd recommend her to anyone, even if math isn't your cup of tea.

I adore Amber! I had her for Math 114 and decided to take her again for Math 115. She actually became our 114 prof halfway through the quarter due to the other professor having a family emergency. She did a great job taking over the class and is very calm, cool and collected. She explains course material excellently and wants you to succeed

I absolutely loved her! She is honestly the only teacher that has had math make sense to me. You always have homework but make sure to do it because everyday you get 15 minutes of questions about it. She also is pretty easy going and don't be afraid to ask questions. Also STUDYYYYY the material

Fantastic teacher! Amber makes math really fun and interesting. She cares about her students and gives a lot of feedback after tests and quizzes. She also has lots of office hours for students who need or want extra help.

Amber is a great math professor. This class was a lot of work, but what college math class isnt. She is a solid choice and grades the same throughout the course. She really took care of the students who needed office hours. While class times are quick she is useful with the time she is given. Also she is enthusiastic about the subject.

I honestly don't know what the negative comments are talking about. Amber is super accessible and explains everything super clear. If you have questions she does her best to help and goes over homework everyday before you turn it in. She also goes over exams and quizzes. She is the best math prof I've had yet. It's an easy class if you work for it.

I was lucky to randomly pick Amber for my math 112 class. From that point I've enrolled in her 114, 115, 124, and currently 125 class. She doesn't hand you an A by any means, no note cards on tests, and homework is nightly avg 1 hour. With that being said she expects you to actually learn the content. Her teaching style is intuitive and clear.

Clear about what she expects. Makes good use of class time and is obviously passionate about what she teaches. I'm not very excited about math but I enjoyed going to her class most days. There's homework every night, took me 1-2 hours usually and I went to tutoring center daily.

Daily homework is unfortunate, but I thought she was worth it. She is really accessible and helpful, and her homework though daily is usually very short and easy. Very understanding and caring.

From 5 different professors I had for math, Amber is by far the best one, her lectures are clear and she uses good examples, she is really good when explaining out of class, attendance isn't mandatory besides from getting 1 point taken off from daily hw, the class is fast paced so do the hw or you'll fall behind, she also cares about her students

Amber does a great job setting up the base for her students to finish the homework during her lectures. My issue is the daily homework that is graded on correctness and not completion. Attendance matters, there is a question before each lecture that counts towards your homework grade. I like that she sets class and assignment expectations early on.

The class isn't too hard as long as you show up to lectures, do your homework, and ask questions and seek out help when needed. The course was very fast paced, but her office hours are super helpful. The exams and quizes lined up well with the course material and homework. If you are a kinesthetic leaner you may have a harder time during lectures.

Amber is incredibly good at giving lectures. She writes everything out by hand and walks you through problems and gives you ways to solve future ones. She's always excitable and loves math. My notes for her class were the best. She's willing to stay after class to help you out and she's ready to help you during office hours. She's like a math mom

Take into consideration that this is Calculus, it's not meant to be easy. She did an excellent job teaching the material and being supportive during these trying times. She has clear expectations and wants you to be successful. When I bombed the first exam, I thought I was done for, but stick through it, ask for help, and you will do fine!

I had Amber for Math 125 and she was amazing. She was willing to help and explained problems in ways that were easily understood. Definitely would recommend her to anyone who struggles with Math.

Professor Hixson was extremely organized with pre-recorded lectures and Zoom sessions to go over the homework thoroughly. The homework load was not excessive but appropriate to grasp the concepts, and the exams were fair. Despite remote instruction on short notice, Prof Hixson did a great job explaining the material.

Hixson was one of the best math teachers I've ever had. You can tell she cares for her students and is always excited to teach us. While her class is neither easy nor hard, her class makes sense because calculus is already difficult, take her for math if you learn via lectures, you won't regret it.

Instructor Hixson is a nice guy; Hixson makes you to feel safe passing her class. I would highly recommend her! She automatically makes you entering into a math world.

It's true that Amber explains things easier, but I see that as a good thing. She's very smart. If you want an easy math class where you'll actually learn stuff, take Amber's class, you won't be disappointed.

THE best professor I've ever had. She explains things extremely well and if you don't understand she goes far to explain in a way that you will. She doesn't give many partial credits on exams as other professors do, but she is also fair on the difficulty of the exams. She's well respected at universities.

She understands that not everyone learns at the same rate and she won't make you feel stupid for asking questions and getting help.

Amber's probably the best or second best math professor I've had. If you ask the real-world application for ANYTHING in the class, she'll show you with enthusiasm and will blow your mind. She made integral calculus incredibly simple and applicable. Can't get much better in my opinion. Solid 10/10.

Hixson is very caring. She wants the most for her students and tries her best to help students as long as you say something. There was three exams that had the biggest hit on my grades and she takes attendance for all her lectures. But overall, she's a great professor and wants the best for students.

Amber was an amazing math professor; she clearly wants students to understand and feel confident in concepts. Be ready to take your time on the homework but if you do the homework, you'll understand the tests just fine. Communicates what will be on tests and what to expect very well. Will definitely be taking another math course from her.

I do not like calculus, but Amber made it not entirely awful. You get homework every night, but most points are for just doing it. She also goes over 1-2 homework questions each class, which is a huge help. Quizzes and exams are hard, but she has a form of test corrections to help buffer your grade too. Always nice too and made instructions clear.

Amber Hixson is a nice person who will go out of her way to help you, especially if you have DAC accommodations. Homework is tough and can sometimes take a while. Her exams are incredibly hard, some of the hardest I've ever taken, and you'll have an exam or a quiz once a week. Corrections are available for exams but are weighted separately.

I took calculus previously so take my difficulty rating with a grain of salt. Good lectures, didn't even need to use the textbook. Exam corrections are separate from exam scores. Homework sometimes more advanced than in-class material but you go over it in-class.

Professor Hixson is a brilliant and kind professor, and it's clear that she wants to be teaching every student in the class. I had her 9am timeslot, and she was always full of energy despite the early morning and the class being completely exhausted. There's generally two homework assignments per night, and an in-class assignment. 10/10 class

The online textbook is free, but I never used it; her lectures were really good. There's homework every day, but it's almost entirely graded on participation. She was really helpful in office hours and had a variety of times available. Lots of example problems in class, partial credit given. I did take AP Calc before this, so that made it easier.

She will help you wherever you are in the learning process, even if you are at a second grade level. Very nonjudgmental, and gives great lectures. It is very important to her that you understand what you are learning.

Amber is such a fun and amazing professor. Never once has she made me feel dumb when I asked her dumb questions. She encourages you to see her during office hrs when you have questions or are struggling on a topic.

Overall this was a pretty easy math class, Amber gives high school English teacher vibes and her lectures make sense. We took four exams and I think four quizzes, and they all had the same problems from the homework. You won't pass if you don't go to the lectures.

Amber Hixon is a silly-goofy, and nice Professor. I took Pre Calc in 2022, took Calc124 winter 2025, with basically 0 background, and got a C. The homework is daily, and can be difficult, however, the problems on the tests are usually easier. She has lots of videos and resources for help on concepts. If you want to pass you will, just do the work.

Daily homework that can be tough, but will prep you for exams/quizzes. Very good at teaching imo, detailed step-by-step explanations and examples. There's also additional videos on Canvas & free online textbook (not mandatory reading). Most important thing is to show up and take good notes. She's also very kind and silly, always full of energy :D

Intimidating syllabus but an amazing professor. Very organized, great at teaching, cares a lot about her students, and provides lots of resources to learn. She's silly and nice and I almost wish I had more math classes to take just so I could be in her class again
