Dr. LaCrosse was my first professor at NMU, the first face I saw. She made me feel like she personally cared about me, and made sure to check up on me. She didn't give up on me, complimented me when I did well, and encouraged me when I didn't. She clearly loves what she does, and even though my grade wasn't good, I loved this class :)
Dr. LaCrosse is an amazing lady. She genuinely cares for her student's performance as well as their well being. She gives great feedback and talks passionately about her interests which makes the class more fun. This class was a lot of work but rewarding. The information is interesting, however, it's best taken with a biology/anatomy background.
She is a really great person. I think I would enjoy doing research with her a lot. BUT. Her class was pretty labor-intensive and you definitely have to work for your grade. When she goes over things she likes, she will tell you. If she doesn't really care for the material and looked it up the night before, she will also tell you. Content heavy.
Always helpful.
Dr. LaCrosse is a good professor but incredibly intelligent and I think she forgets that we are college students and still learning. The class itself was tough- if you do not study or know the material you are basically SOL. Plus side- there is plenty of extra credit.
Dr. LaCrosse is one of the best professors out there. If you're taking PSY 100 online, she records lectures twice a week, tells you what's important, and highlights in red what will be on the educat quizzes. The educat quizzes are easy as long as you do the work. You have to put in time and effort for this class but it will pay off in the long run
Best professor ever! Dr. LaCrosse is always willing and able to help if you have questions. You do have to work for your grade but the hard work pays off. Online quizzes for this class are easy and there is a lot of extra credit. If you go do the work and study, you'll pass with flying colors. Dr. LaCrosse loves her job and shows. 10/10
Dr. Lacrosse was awesome, I really liked her. I took her class online, she posts two lectures a week and there is a 20 question quiz due every Friday. That was the only homework I ever had, it was awesome. Her TA, Sydney, for the lab that went along with the class was super nice too. The labs were always interesting and I learned a lot!
I had her my freshmen year and she is one professor I hope to have again. She is very understanding and helpful. Also she has a sense of humor and is great to have a conversation with. Her tests are hard so study study study. If you do great on tests youll have no problem. Also make sure you study and get a good grade on the sheep brain dissection
Amber is the best. She's highly intelligent, but able to communicate the material in a way that is easy to understand. She goes over the hard stuff multiple times so you understand it and she lets you know when she enjoys what she talks about. Make sure you attend all lectures, practice the sheep brain, and do the study guides, they really help!
She's a bit egotistical and has some strict classroom rules but she knows what she's talking about and you can tell that she is very interested in the topic
The book for the course was extremely expensive, especially for a Gen Ed. You also need to take good notes/read the book thoroughly to do well. The semester I took her class, it switched to virtual, which definitely helped me. Ultimately, she was helpful with concerns and honest with students.
Dr. LaCrosse's class is by no means easy unless you already have a good background with biology. The more you show up to class, the better you'll do. Dr. LaCrosse and her TAs will tell you every written question that will be on the exams, along with other crucial info. The class is pretty hard, but Dr. LaCrosse tries to make it the easiest she can.
Dr. LaCrosse is AWESOME! She explains things clearly, gives great real-life examples that help you understand the material. She is available, and cares about her students in and outside of class. She offers extra study sessions at exam time. It is definitely worth it to show up in class, although attendance is not mandatory. Highly highly recommend
She was a good professor and she made the class interesting! I love PSY250 with her!
Sets up her class great, funny, easy to ask questions, gives study guides, make sure to read the textbooks though.
Dr. LaCrosse is an amazing professor! I would definitely recommend having taking this class or any class with her. She cares for her students and is there to help you if you need the help. This course is very material heavy, so definitely show up to class and STUDY!! You also have many extra credit opportunities.
This is the most unprofessional, rude, and annoying professor I've ever had. She's constantly talking about her self and swearing. She is discouraging, judgmental and inflexible. If you have health or life issues, good luck because she's not accommodating whatsoever for some reason. If I could never take a class from her again I would.
I would recommend Dr. LaCrosse for any course she teaches. She cares about her students and takes their concerns seriously. She has clear grading criteria and is willing to work around schedules or illness when necessary.
Dr. Lacrosse is my favorite professor I have had so far in college. She is very passionate about psychology and her energy is very contagious, even at 8am 5 days a week! She is very caring and is willing to accommodate to the needs of her students. Her expertise is of tremendous value and will benefit a variety of students of different interests.
Dr. LaCrosse is by far my favorite professor! She makes the class a nice balance when it comes to the difficulty. If you are stuggling she is more than willing to meet. She offers plenty of extra credit and often has TA's to help tutor students. Attendence is important as she gives lots of hits to her exams. She is very enthusiastic.10/10
I have been Dr. Lacrosse's student for almost three years. In this time frame, she has worked diligently, patiently, and selflessly to safeguard and help build my future as a psychologist. Because of her, my time as an undergraduate has been one of the most rewarding and enriching experiences of my life. One of the best people you will ever meet.
Best prof I have ever had. So personable and understanding and works with you to succeed and genuinely cares how you do. Her lectures are amazing and very clear straight to the point while also very interesting. Don't be afraid of her, she is a golden retriever puppy and wants you do get the material and do well in her class. Very real.
Love this woman. She knows what she is talking about and is passionate about the topics. Will do everything she can to make sure you are as successful as possible in her class.
Worst professor I've ever had. It was her first year teaching and she had an arrogant attitude like she knew everything. I listened to her spew misinformation and when I emailed her about it she got mad and said "peer reviewed journals disagree" So I sent her some peer reviewed journals backing up my statements. She refused to acknowledge them.
She will literally tell you everything that is on the exam so as long as you go to class you will get an easy A. There are TA's in the class that hold study sessions for every exam. She also offers many extra credit opportunities. Pretty easy to get an A if you put in just a little effort.
Dr. LaCrosse is caring and understanding. Pretty easy going professor with an easy class.
This prof lays out precisely what needs to be studied for each test and gives multiple study opportunities both inside and outside of class. The class goes very quickly through material & may be challenging without a biology/anatomy background
Always pointed out what is important to know for upcoming exams. Gives multiple resources for help outside of lecture.
I loved Amber so much. The very first test we took I was having an awful day and left crying. Amber and her TA Lilly came to find me, and they comforted me which made me feel so validated and seen. I was able to retake the test as well as get help from both her and her TA's. It is important that you go to class and ask for help if needed.
I absolutely loved this class. Amber is an amazing professor and very down-to-earth and understanding. The lectures were clear and she wants the best for you. 1 quiz a week that you take outside of class, a few tests, and that was mostly it. Attendance mandatory but she is understanding & gives a few days w/o affecting attendance grade
My favorite professor yet! Amber really wants you to succeed in the course, as well as understand the material. As long as you put in the work to study you have a good chance at getting an A.
She is without a doubt the best teacher and advisor I have had at Northern Michigan. Although she is extremely busy with her classes, studies, and advisees, she undoubtedly will find time to make sure you get whatever help you may need. I credit my success to this individual! Not only with my success in her classes but thriving here at NMU as well!
Dr. LaCrosse is impressively ambiguous to inspire students for the field. Her contagious energy while teaching is often misinterpreted as unprofessional or inappropriate but in fact it is her passion for psychology/neuroscience. Her real life research examples are helpful and interesting resources and the level of the course, perfectly challenging!
She is one of the more engaging professors ive had. I genuinely enjoyed classes, and she has quite the insight on each topic. Her lectures and slides provide useful information for the exams, which I find helpful. She is straight-forward and passionate. I gotta say the department has a good one here.
Dr. LaCrosse made this class very engaging and gave a clear understanding regarding the expectations of the class. You can tell that she cares about her students and wants them to do well. The class is largely discussion based, but she makes the class feel like a safe space, which helps students open-up and discuss the curriculum.
You can tell Dr. LaCrosse really cares about her students and sets them up for success in this class. While the material can be difficult, she goes out of her way to help her students when they ask. I've never learned better from a professor, and she really helped me develop my passion for neuroscience through this course!
Most unprofessional, rude, and disrespectful professor ever. She makes NMU's psychology department a joke. Never takes accountability for student questions, swears too often, and acts immature for her age. She did not provide clear guidance on any assignments and would not support her rationale.
Very disrespectful, rude, immature professor. Provided minimal guidance to questions outside of class, reads verbatim slides and doesn't expand on information. The amount of swearing she does in front of her students to act “relatable” was unsettling. Had to reach out to the professor head for guidance and only then did I understand the material.
Hard to understand material as outside guidance during her office hours did not provide support. Utilized outside resources and TA for support. Professor displayed herself as unprofessional, rude, and dismissive to me wanting to learn the material. Only pro was that exams were easy as she provided explicit examples for test.
The material itself wasn't the challenge. It was working with the professor outside of class for any additional questions. I left feeling discouraged and incompetent with how she responded to my questions. She continued to display this behavior of acting like she had better things to do. I was able to gain more support with her TA and pass.
Professor enjoys this field. However, the ways she teaches it is of concern. Read slides verbatim and didn't delve much past that. Her office hours were not productive as she acted too busy to respond to my questions to better understand the material. Her TA and other professors were what helped me pass.
Professor read off her slides, not providing additional information to fully learn the material. She swore frequently during her lectures and outside of class, making herself look unprofessional and disengaged me from learning. Her TA and other outside resources were what aided me in passing.
Professor's lectures were unhelpful; she only read off her slides. Echoing what others have said, she swore frequently and tried to relate too hard to students. She acted unprofessional and did not engage me. Each time I asked her questions, she'd redirect me to the book or her slides, dismissing me. Utilize TA and other resources to pass. Avoid.
NMU needs to look into finding a different professor for this course. This professor wiped my passion for neuroscience. She swore frequently in her lectures, read off her slides verbatim, and dismissed questions for office hours. Wasted time spent in class. Had to teach myself and utilize her TA. She does not show professionalism within this field.
The material can be grasped with studying and good notes. Extra credit helps. The struggle is collaboratively working with the professor. I engage in class and for any questions, she points me to her slides or book, even after I've told her they've been used. Does not appear to want to help students. She needs to stop swearing during lectures.
You will need to work hard for a decent grade. The material can be understood if you take the time and effort to learn it. Her extra credit aids and is added study material. Her lectures aren't helpful as she reads verbatim her slides. Questions in and outside of lecture, she sends you to the book or her slides. You'll end up teaching yourself.
The lectures were a waste of time as the professor read off each slide. She provided minimal detail outside of what was “taught.” I did not engage with her teaching style as she relayed the material by occasionally swearing and make off-handed comments not related to the lecture. Office hours were a joke as she referenced me back to her slides.
Professor seems to forget not everyone has a neuroscience background. She does not relay course material in a way that can be understood for those with no prior exposure. Her speaking style comes across as egotistical. When asking questions to her, she speaks down to you. Unless you have a solid background in neuroscience, avoid her.
She offers 1:1 tutoring during her office hours and outside of them, she does not read her slides. always offers more information than necessary, and that can be overwhelming. Yeah, she swears sometimes, but a lot of male biology professors swear and they are never called out for it. She's a nice lady, just ask for help and you'll get it.
Egotistical behavior and acts immature during her lectures. The swearing needs to stop. It is a huge distraction. Extra credit helped and she provided information once asked.
Study hard and utilize extra credit. If you put in the work, you'll get an A. Caveat is this professor is not easy to work with. Comes across egotistical and rude when speaking to you. Needs to realize that not all students understand neuroscience. Would benefit from a more basic approach and building up.
Avoid at all costs. Burned my desired for neuroscience with her poor way of teaching the material. Reading off of slides and swearing isn't how to teach. I learned more from the book and professor head than her.
Lectures were a combo of questions, slide reading, and swearing. Yeah, my other professors do it too, and I'll call them for it. It's unprofessional and ruins my train of thought when learning this material. Like any class, study and use her extra credit. She presents as egotistical and not approachable.
Show up, study hard, and you'll get an A. Course material wasn't hard to grasp, just need to be on top of notes. I will agree with others, she does come across as a know-it-all. Didn't find it easy to approach her.
Attendance will bite you and your grade; show up and complete the work. I do not find her easy to get along with or approach. She portrays this ego that she is better than everyone. Stay in your lane and you'll be fine.
Whilst I would not wish to take another class under her, the material was self-explanatory following due diligence and studying. Honestly, just read the book and form study groups. That's all you need
Honestly, I think she's great. A lot of my classmates just really can't handle themselves or tough classes.
This is by far the best professor I have ever had. She is professional and is very passionate about her work. If you work hard you're going to get a good grade. I would totally take her again. Best presentations.

Love this professor. Her lectures are amazing and makes me love neuroscience that much more. When she talks about the Brain she is so passionate. She wants her students to succeed. If you work hard you will succeed and she wants you too! She gives us plenty of time to study for the test.
She is one of the best professors. She cares about the success of her students and has extra office time for questions. She give plenty of time to study for the tests and holds extra study sessions. She works hard to make sure that her information is as up to date as it gets. I would take another class from her! Highly recommend!

She makes learning fun one of the best instructors I've had at engaging her students gives you plenty of time to study in advance for exams and has hours outside the classroom. She's passionate about her job and she's very approachable. Highly recommend.
This class was fantastic. The professor was very knowledgeable in her area of expertise. She's very willing to help out and answer any questions you might have. She gives you all the tools needed to succeed in this class. If you put forth the effort you will have no problem.
She's entertaining and engages her students through her PowerPoint presentations. She's passionate about her job and she cares about her students success. I had no problem approaching her outside the classroom for extra help and I ended up with a pretty decent grade.
Her passion for neuroscience made this class very enjoyable. I would definitely take another class by her. I was able to approach her for extra help when I didn't understand something. PowerPoint presentations wearing engaging she gives you all the tools to succeed.
Loved this class, the professor clearly knew what she was doing, was very entertaining and highly knowledgeable. Easy to approach for questions and went over exam materials in detail. I would take another one of her classes again.
Honestly, I thought she was a great professor. A lot of my classmates are not mature enough to handle a course on this level. Her lectures were amazing informative and you can see the passion she has for neuroscience I would take her class again.
She's one of the better professors that I've had. She cares about her students and their success. She gives plenty of time to study for exams and goes over the material in depth. If you don't get a good grade it's because you didn't try. I would take her class again.
She has a great personality and cares about her student success. I would definitely take her class again. If you work hard, you're gonna get a good grade. Her feedback is amazing and she has lots of time outside the class to help you out if you have questions. Just an amazing person.
She's a hard teacher, but she's good at what she does and you can tell she cares. She's very knowledgeable and willing to help outside the classroom. She gives you all the study tools you need to succeed. I would take her again.
She is not easy but she cares about your success. Her lectures are amazing and her passion for the subject shines in her lecture. She's helped me outside the classroom and she holds extra study sessions for exams. Highly recommend.
She's a good teacher. I could've done better if I had put forth more effort, but she does give you all the tools you need to succeed and goes over the exams in detail. I would take her again.
Amazing instructor who cares about her work and her students. I loved the class and I would take her again. She is always happy and her bubbly personality is very approachable. Always willing to help out outside the classroom. Highly recommend.
Amazing teacher who cares about her students and her work. I learned so much taking the class from her this year I would take another one of her classes in a heartbeat.
Not an easy instructor, but she's very knowledgeable in her material. Her lectures are good and entertaining. If you put forth the effort, she gives you all the tools you need to succeed and goes over the exams in detail. If you don't get a good grade it's because you're lazy and not putting forth the effort you need at such a high level.
An amazing professor highly recommend I would take her again. She cares about her students and her lectures are far from boring. Her passion for neuroscience is evident and she cares about her student success as long as you work hard you'll do good.
Not an easy class, but an awesome professor who takes the time outside of the classroom to help students. I would take another class from this instructor. I liked her teaching style with the PowerPoint presentations. You didn't necessarily need the textbook.
She's a very entertaining teacher and you can tell she knows a lot about what she teaches. I enjoy taking her class and learning from her. I would take another one. She's very approachable and willing to help in any way she can.
She gives you everything you need to be successful. I highly recommend this instructor. I love how her PowerPoint presentations cover everything and you don't need the textbook to study. I would definitely take her again.
Honestly, she's a great instructor passionate about her work and her students I would take her again. I enjoyed this class.
Not an easy instructor, but her lectures were amazing. If you put forth effort, you will succeed, she gives you all the tools you need. She is very approachable. She goes above and beyond the average professor.
I'm not gonna lie. This class was hard, but the professor was great. Her lectures were entertaining and she is very approachable. You'll get out of it what you put into it I highly recommend.
She's a great professor I should've put forth more effort. I still did decent, but I could've done better. Her lectures are entertaining and you get all your information from the PowerPoint. She's very approachable and has hours outside the classroom. I would take her again.
By far, one of my favorite teachers, she makes learning fun. Her PowerPoints are entertaining, and if you put forth the effort, you'll succeed. She will do whatever she can to help you understand and answer your questions without making you feel dumb like some instructors do.
Extremely disorganized professor. Doesn't seem like she knows the material beyond what is on her slides. Does not respond to emails and frequently isn't in her office during office hours. Swears constantly to try to be relatable to students, but comes off as immature and unprofessional.
Dr.LaCrosse was a PHENOMENAL professor. She's totally understanding of any situation and is typically willing to work with you on any issues you may have. She has her TA's hold study sessions prior to exams which literally give you the answers verbatim from the exam. If you can't pass this class, you might be better off welding... Seriously
She is extremely understanding and is able to work with you regardless of the circumstances.
Painfully boring lectures and it seemed like she hardly knows the material outside of regurgitating the information on her slides. I emailed her to correct her on some serious misinformation she gave and I provided multiple journal articles to back me up. She responded that I was wrong and she provided no evidence. Her ego is a huge problem.
She's very arrogant. Acts like she's better than everyone because of her degrees. It's extremely disappointing when professors are like this. We are all here to learn, and no matter what someone's credentials are, they aren't beyond continuing to learn more. This type of elitist attitude needs to be rooted out of academia.
Her ego is made of glass, if you question anything she says she gets confrontational. Often gives incorrect information if asked anything that is not on the powerpoint in front of her. Also just generally unprofessional: swears constantly and puts minimal effort into lecture materials. Lectures are grating to listen to
I felt like she expected a lot but gave the bare minimum. Sort of disorganized/chaotic vibe like she had better things to do. Also gave off a superiority complex that seemed very unnecessary. Glad to be done w this class and her as a prof.
Amazing prof. She's a genuinely good person, extremely passionate about the subject, and makes her expectations very clear. Plus she's super funny and her lectures are actually entertaining. Lots of profs in 200 levels seem bored with their own material ime, but not LaCrosse. 11/10, couldn't recommend more highly.
Genuinely the best professor I have had for my undergraduate college career. She may not be for everyone, but as long as you put forth effort in her courses she will fight tooth and nail to get you through that course. If she can't meet with you, her TA's definitely can and want to. You know exactly what you are going to be asked of you.
Very disorganized prof. She is nice but basically just reads off of powerpoint slides and not much else.
Probably the worst prof I've ever had, where does NMU find these people? Her TA does a better job of teaching and acts more professionally
She's a great professor overall. She understands students schedules and has lots of extra credit opportunities. LaCrosse is a tough grader I would say on the last exam but other than that pretty light on how much work is given throughout the semester.
