Great lectures. Super caring and describes everything well and super easy to understand. Tests arent too bad if you study good, study guides have all the answers to the tests.
Charismatic. Easygoing. Simply amazing. Her lectures and top hat quizzes are exactly what are to appear on the exams, so as long as you participate and come to class, you'll have a blast and pass.
We use Top Hat in the lectures! We have the book but we only use the connect code for online homework for each section! Her lectures are straight forward! We have 4 midterms, the 1st test is online and the rest are in the class, 35 questions each section. Her final are off the questions of the other test! She is an amazing teacher!
Professor Reece is very specific on what she wants, we used TopHat on most lectures for participation points in the class and had online homework assignments. The midterms were fairly easy if you studied, and the final is based on questions from past exams! Super great teacher.
Amber is a great professor and she definitely knows her stuff. Her lectures are great and I recommend her. She is funny at times too. Make sure you go to lecture because you will lose participation points if you don't.
Dr. Reece is a great professor! She is so good at teaching and super clear. I didn't ever leave class with something I didn't fully understand. We used Top Hat almost everyday, and got our participation points through there. 3 Exams, 35 questions each, and final. Keep up with McGraw hill and you will be fine. Do the Study Guides extremely helpful.
She is a great teacher you have to pay attention to do well on her tests! The tests are very hard if you do not pay attention. Her study guides are hard to follow. You can know everything on the study guide but may not understand questions on the test!
Great teacher. Clear about what she expects and what you need to do to get a good grade. Cares about her students success. Class is hard in general but, with Dr. Reece she helps make it easier to pass & get a good grade
super easy course! i recommend taking snapshots of all tophat questions because they will most likely be on the test. I don't like bio but i enjoyed her class. offers a lot of extra credit as well. also an SI course! only thing i didnt like was the book which did not help at all but do the homework because it's easy points.
She was really cool. The lectures were not the bad, we used top hat a lot! thats where you get your participation points. There is connect homework every other week, make sure you complete it! Her grading is off points system, really easy class and gives helpful study guides!
Reece's class was pretty easy to pass. If you show up and pay attention you'll be good. Just do the connect homework and top hat in class stuff and you'll get a C or better. Didn't put a lot of effort in and still got an A which is an 85% for the class.
If you're looking for a class where you don't physically need to be in class, this is it. She uses TopHat so just log in and participate from there. Attendance is required on days w/ in class activities. Extra-credit opportunities for each module and make sure you do the online homework
Easy class. Lectures were cool. I wish someone would've told me to not bother getting the textbook because the tests are based off of her Power Points from lecture. I suggest purchasing the Connect subscription for the online homework separately instead of the bundle from the bookstore. It will save you money and unnecessary clutter.
Classes are not mandatory, but her classes are very helpful. There is homework every week and sometimes time consuming. There is extra credit offered every unit and plenty of time is given to complete it.
Super easy class. You don't even have to go to lectures because she uses TopHat; just log in and answer the questions during the time of lecture. Weekly homework that isn't hard but can be time consuming. Tests are straight from the powerpoints, so you don't have to buy the book. Gives study guides that are straight from the test
Great professor. Shes really nice and cares about her students. She makes her lectures easy and understandable. This class taught me a lot!
Very good teacher, just go to the lectures and you'll understand what she is teaching which will help you on the tests. You get homework every weekend but you have 3 days to complete it. You use top hat during lectures for points there very easy points to earn. She offers A LOT of extra credit. You will pass this class as long as you do everything.
Very direct teacher, she uses tophat this app for lectures, you don't need the book its online, every week you will have something to do either a homework assignment or a unit test. She gives you a week for homework assignments and 3 days for test. Everything is online and she gives clear instructions. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities
She's such a good professor. I only received a C because I didn't really try and I did none of the extra credit assignments but if you put the effort in you can EASILY get an A. She makes the class super easy and gives a lot of points throughout the semester and a lot of extra credit .
Her class was very easy. Her assignments aren't too difficult, and the tests are like the study guides she gives out. Just stay on task and do the extra credit and you will pass with a B or an A.
The homework and quizzes were all online when I took it, and you had two tries - highest grade was kept. Overall she asked very specific questions on everything so it was very time consuming. Labs were easy though. Overall, her lectures are clear and to the point, you would enjoy her class.
Great lectures if you show up and pay attention !
very direct. anything she says will be related to the subject and the slides are a good way to study for the test. very nice and funny. 10/10 very good prof.
Great teaching, great lecturer, overall a good teacher.
Professor Reece is a good professor. The only thing that you need to worry about is the test. She words the test very hard kind of like tricking you. SI sessions would highly be recommended. She uses top hat for questions inside class. She will not tolerant any talking during class time.
She offers a lot of extra credit. You should be fine as long as you do the TopHat questions in class and do your weekly quizzes on time. As for tests, just take notes during lecture and review them.
no textbook needed for this class. this class was super easy as long as you show up to class or go to si sessions. she was a great lecturer overall. also make sure to do extra credit, as they help a lot in the end
She uses top hat so you have to be in class in order to do well. She puts slides on blackboard but its helpful if you are in class and answering questions on top hat.
It was a very easy class for me. She uses tophat which helps review the material you are going over in class. If you have the discovere course you take tests and quizzes online which is a plus. I really recommend this class because of how easy and straightforward it is.
Dr. Reece is such a great professor and makes her lectures enjoyable. You have the weekly quizzes and rarely assigned HW through tophat. The Unit tests can be tricky at times but Dr. Reece explains her lectures really well which made understanding easy. She also gives a decent amount of extra credit. Highly recommend this professor for Bio 10.
Dr. Reece is an amazing professor! If you have the chance to take her class you definitely should. The class is straight forward and pretty easy. As long as you do the work and study you should have no problem passing. Dr. Reece also gives so many extra credit opportunities and it is important to take advantage of those!!
There are 4 exams on blackboard and a cumulative final. The exams are not too difficult but I always received a 30/40 out of 50 so my grade would go down. However, she offers up to 50 points extra credit and if you do good in lab, top hat and homework you should be fine. I was surprised to receive an A after missing a few points on homeworks.
pretty easy class. weekly homeworkeasy. tests can be a bit tricky because they're mainly application questions, but if you make a study guide from her learning goals it's not that bad. interesting lectures, I learned a lot. can earn up to 50 points of extra credit, which definitely helps your grade! SI is offered, they helped understand bio better
Very good professor. She is extremely fair on her tests, as long as you pay attention in class you will pass. There are lots of opportunities for extra credit and the tests are online. She makes biology interesting.
I absolutely hate science, yet I did not hate this class bc she lectures very well. There's no excuse not to pass this class bc there's a lot of extra credit and the tests are nothing too hard, plus you take them online! Same goes for quizzes! Tophat is also very important so make sure you attend class bc sometimes she'll do random attendance
Good overall
Dr. Reece is a great biology professor and her class was easy. Just show up to class, remember to do your homework on time, study for exams, and do good in lab then you should be fine. Attendance matters because your given participant points for being there and learning so make sure to not miss class a lot. There are up to 50 extra credits points.
Easy class. You will need to show up in order to answer top hat questions and complete activities. The entire class including tests are online. Tests aren't too hard but aren't easy either.
Her class is very simple. You follow along with her lectures on Tophat and answer questions for credit. You have one easy assignment per week. Her tests won't break your grade as long as you do the homework. And she offers many extra credit opportunities. She also regularly holds online class. Overall she is a good professor.
Professor Reece is a great professor to choose for BIO10! For someone who is not fond of science, I enjoyed being in her class. Tophat and quizzes during the weekend are mostly what you do in this course. You have a few tests that are a solid pass if you take good notes. Overall a great professor!
Dr. Reece is an amazing Bio professor she is straight forward in lectures, she makes sure that people understand the topic before moving on. She uses Top Hat every lecture, it's how she keeps track of students participation. So make sure to attend most if not all lectures throughout the semester.
Attending class matters because that is how participation points are gained unless you have a buddy who can log into your top hat account and answer the participation questions for you. The lectures made the subject more interesting and she can be funny at times. All the exams are online at home, would highly recommend.
Dr Reece is really easy. Just make sure to do your notes and pass every weekly test and youll pass the class with an A. Lab is worth a lot so make sure to pass LAB with a B and youll end up getting a A/B for the lecture if you do good on the tests. She also offers 50 points worth of extra credit.
Would take her again. Test are online so make friends in class and do them together. You have to buy Top hat to participate in class and if not you miss a ton of points. Offers tons of EC.
Offers 50 points of extra credit. A lot of Top Hat Points. Test are online. Hw is due @ the end of the week and it's easy.
It's like taking Biology in high school again, but more in depth actually. All you needed was a laptop in class (DISCOVERe). Heh, I got a B on the 1st exam, D on the second exam, C on the 3rd exam, C on the 4th exam, and F on the final, I still passed the class with an 85% (B). Make sure to come to class for participation points; very important! XD
Lectures are helpful, in fact, as long as you do well in lectures even if you get a C in lab, you can still pass with an A in the class. There's also a lot of extra credit opportunities. Whole class is basically online- tests, homework, participation.
Very impatient with students any time they express difficulty, teaches with a very condescending attitude. This class was "bio for non-science majors", and she repeatedly said things like "you aren't science majors, so you don't have to know this" or "I go more in depth with my real bio students." Easy class, but she's very harsh on absences.
She aight. I failed the final and still passed lol. If I can do it, you can do it.
Out of all my years in College. She is the professor that does not read off her slides. Reece talks as if she knows her stuff very very well. Always gives examples to understand the topic. Is reasonable towards grading. Lectures consist of videos, games, and podcasts. Trust me. Take this professor! You'll learn soo much! Best professor I ever had.
Top Hat is used and you can't make it up without a Dr's note, so go to class. Everything is online, including tests, so you can use notes from lecture, powerpoints online - going to lecture helps a lot. Tests & participation are easy. Tons of easy extra credit. Class has SI though I never went. Weekly homework quizzes. Makes it fun and interesting.
Very nice professor, she is funny and will be open to students. She is very easy to talk to and gives very good advice.
There was a lot of homework for this class, just so many online quizzes to stay on top of. The TopHat software you use for this class can be buggy at times with its grading of assignments, so beware. The professor herself knows her material, and gets it across well. She came off a bit overly annoyed however with questions she deemed unrelated.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!! Super easy class, just pay attention and turn in your work on time. She's super chill, hilarious and down to earth. Cracks jokes all the time and is really friendly. Her grading is very specific and helps you with all of your assignments. Her assignments are very easy and her ISA's are helpful too.
Dr Reece is an amazing biology professor! This professor knows exactly what she is talking about. She lectures heavy every class session. There is no book, but you do have to purchase TOPHAT, which is like a class interaction app. There is a quiz every week and theres 3 tests (1 test /2 units). Tons of extra credit!
Dr. Reece made Bio 10 interesting and fun when I had her for Fall 2019 in lecture. She's very friendly person. Overall her class was super easy and explained well her concepts. The class consists of doing TopHat in a application by doing some questions for participation points, exams, homework and 50 extra credit points to bring up your grade.
I took her GE biology class. It was a lecture class, but not boring. She gives extra credit opportunities. You do have to go to class to get top hat participation points, but she doesn't make it difficult.
Don't take her unless you're extremely good at understanding science. Her tests are ridiculously hard and a majority of the answers are not on quizlet. She makes you listen to ridiculous podcasts that are usually an 45 mins to an hour long for like a 10-15 question assignment. One of the worst professors I've had
Reading all the good comments about her is so confusing to me!! I had her online when the covid thing started happening and she got 10x worse than what she already was! Doesn't not teach one thing (didn't even lecture on zoom), created pointless powerpoints that didn't even help on tests, and expects us to pass? Pathetic
She assigns weekly quizzes with either reading, podcasts, or Youtube videos that tie into it. Her class was not so difficult, but her exams are complexed as the concepts from the material of lectures are applied. She offers a lot of extra credit, has flexible assignment due dates, was not much of a difficult class. STUDY FOR EXAMS!
10/10 professor! I had her for CSM 10 and 15 and I really enjoyed her class. Tough grader but if you ask her questions outside of class she is very willing to help you out and you'll definitely get the grade you want. She's super kind and very considerate of your own schedule if you just let her know. Stay on top of the work cause there is a lot.
Dr. Reece is the rudest professor I have had. She is very stubborn and arrogant. The ISAs were also rude sometimes. This class was much more difficult than it should've been due to the amount of assignments and their harsh grading. When transitioning to online, they did a horrible job, and were not clear on assignments. I ended with a very low A.
She explains things thoroughly and is lenient on assignments.
I took her class asynchronously. If you ever needed any help, she would guide you to get your answer. She communicated well, even if we never met on Zoom. Overall, a great teacher!
CSM 15 was the most useless class I've ever taken in my life. It does not help you prepare for college but rather gives you extra work and wastes your time.
Recommend taking during the Intersessions. Had clear instructions, material was easy to read, responds to emails fast, and answers any questions you have. Labs were online simulations with unlimited attempts. Had about 12 assignments due per week, but you will get them all done on time if you do not procrastinate. Can get up to 40 extra credit pts.
Good professor overall. There are two quizzes due every two weeks. The lectures have all the info you need for the exam. The exams are easy as long as you make sure to go over your notes as much as you can. I would say attendance is important because you get participation points if you attend and answer the questions on TopHat during the lectures.
Professor Reece gives great lectures and the content will be posted on Tophat afterward if you miss anything (HW is on there too). Not a lot of homework. Generally, if you take good notes, you'll do fine. LOTS of extra credit, too. Tests are a good portion of your grade but they are online on your own time. Very easy class.
Not terrible but her teaching is really boring, she also goes through the content fast and expects you to remember it all/stuff from high school. 2/3 assignments weekly not bad BUT exams are hard if you don't study. Do the extra credit it helps a lot. Only way I passed was because of the extra credit.
Class is mandatory but all work can be done online. Professional development is an unnecessary add-on to students' plates.
Very easy and flexible class. The class has a total of 1000 points. These points come from quizzes, tophat points, lab points, and test. She also offers extra credit, I got almost 90 extra credit points that definitely helped me out.
I liked her lectures. She posts slides on Top Hat so the students can review them before midterms and the final. Part of the grade comes from quizzes that are complementary readings, podcasts or videos that definitely help to understand better the concepts and how they are related to the world which I found that very interesting.
This course is a lot of information, and Dr. Reece will tell you everything she expects you to know. Everything in the lectures is fair game for the exam, so make sure to dedicate a good chunk of time to study. This course takes time dedication to get a good grade, so study before the day prior to the exam, and you will do fine.
Great and easy-to-understand professor. Very easy lectures and slides on tophat. Good professor overall.
Dr. Reece provided several extra credit opportunities for us to help boost our grade. Be ready to study because there were 6 midterm exams (lowest score dropped) and one cumulative final. The class is not difficult if you study effectively. The content is 90% memorization so taking time outside of class to review the material is essential.
She would tell you one thing to study for on a test and then it would end up being the complete opposite
6 tests total, lowest is dropped. Grade is heavily based on memorization and sometimes her lecture slides are not very in-depth so I recommend going to class. Will if extra credit but only if the whole class is doing terrible (like mine was).
Horrible
I don't even know how to pass this class: what do I do
This class was difficult because of the amount of memorization, not so much the content itself. People complained but did not put in the time to study properly for exams. If you want to do well, you have to put in the time (~4 hr/week). The exams were based directly from the slides which were lengthy but doable. 6 exams, lowest score dropped.
There were 6 tests plus a final, and the class average for all tests was below 70%, except for the last module test which was fairly easy. Why is life oddly peaceful after bombing tests? To pass this class your dopamine receptors must be sensitive to where you can raw dog the day without touching your phone once. Its alot of info to consume. Pray.
study guide for every exam is very vague and not specific to the test. the tests ask a lot of questions about the things she barely mentions. make sure to do every extra credit assignment and study for every practice test as it all adds up to 3% if you get 70/80 points offered. wasnt able to get past 75 on any test regardless of how much i studied.
She's not that bad, sometimes her lectures are entertaining, but she would go through the topic very fast. The tests have a lot of questions and participation matters since she is using Top Hat to see if they answered the questions while she goes through the lectures. She gives out extra credit, but 50 points is the max you can get.
6 tests + final = you will be preparing for tests the whole semester The content itself is not hard but it is the quantity that makes it difficult. Some questions on the test were vague but there is always extra credit on the test. Use the study guide to make flashcards and dont study last minute to pass the course.
Dr. Reece is a great and fair professor. Bio 1B is a difficult course with a lot to learn but she everything she can to teach all of it to the class in a short period of time. Not much homework but studying is important. Lectures contain a lot of information. Most of the grade was exams and quizzes.
This class was really difficult, and it felt like the professor didn't want to help. The average grades on tests were mostly Ds and Fs, which says a lot about how hard they were. When students asked questions, she often responded rudely or brushed them off, which made it hard to stay motivated. I wouldn't recommend this class
Just please avoid if you want to have a life. Worst class ever.
If you can avoid taking her and they hopefully hire a second professor for bio 1B, do it. She is not approachable at all and gives rude responses. She does not try to help you or your grade at all.
Loved taking her BIOL10 class. Took it to cover a gen ed credit. Barely had to worry about assignments. Extremely light course load. Take notes in the lectures because all tests are open note! Mostly based on middle to high school science. Would recommend!!! Only cost was the Tophat subcription ($20) and the lab handbook (abt $30).
Biggest cuck ever she legit does not round a 79.99 for anyone and is very passive agresive. She tries to act all tough and act like she knows everything and is not nice at all, trust me avoid this teacher. Not a single person I know likes her at all and is legit a reason to make your mental health go down the drain lmao. Lab is super hard as well.
The class itself Is passable, but you have to put in a lot of time to study. Reece herself isn't bad at teaching, but she can be extremely rude. The average on the tests is really bad, and she doesn't round up grades even if they're at an 89.9. She does offer up to 2 percent of extra credit though.
So much content to memorize, I barely learned anything even though it was interesting. Labs didn't help at all, just looking at microscopes. Reece can be rude and get angry, and WILL yell at you in front of the class, especially if she suspects you're cheating/looking at notes. Also denied my request to drop due to horrible anxiety from the class
She is not adequate enough to be a professor, her attitude is horribly unprofessional. Her demeanor is always negative and rude, no matter how you approach her with a simple question. Although her study guide can provide some help, you are still better off praying to pass the class. Her character ruins the class, TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
she treated a person with a disability HORRIBLY. like so bad, will call them out in class and make snarky remarks and does not even try to understand them. treats them with less respect than anyone in the classroom. its very disturbing to see from a professor
She is very nice and does a good job challenging us.
She teaches well. Her lectures are simple to follow along and her exams focus on lecture content, so don't miss class. Lab however is a very disorganized class to study for and I don't learn much. You just look at microscopes and teach yourself the rest with the lab manual and lecture material. Uses pictures from all over the place on lab exams.
Even though I didn't do well in this class, this professor is awesome. She gives extra credit, lectures were pretty straightforward. The one thing that scares people is the amount of tests. Yup, six tests in total, one every 2 weeks. It's a stressful class, but with enough studying and patience, you'll do fine.
i drove to school without a seatbelt whenever i had class. literally avoid.
no points for attendance but mad when people dont go. she yelled at a student for taking photos of slides said "students annoy her and this is why she stopped doing this" aka she doesn't do her job because she gets annoyed?? childish faces and throws fits when technology doesnt work. its insulting and EMBARRASSING to let her teach here
there is a girl in class who is eager to learn and always doing well in the course. Reece yelled at her just for taking a photo of a slide simply because she wanted to use it to study and Reece called her annoying. that was such an embarrassing thing to see because it shows professors dont even appreciate the ones who try. shouldnt be teaching.
She def has a personality, but she's an amazing teacher. For lecture and lab, make sure to complete the study guides! She makes the exams using these. the lab is more difficult than the lecture. For lab, make sure to take pictures of the cards she has around the counters, those questions will have info for lab exams. Lots of EC available
someone needs to humble this girl.
She's not the most approachable person but she teaches very well. I only studied the audio recordings I'd take in class and her slides, and got A's and one B on all exams. Lowest is dropped. Her study guides actually reflect her exams in both lab and lecture. The content isn't hard, it's just a lot. Give yourself time to study and you'll do fine.
Good luck is all I can say. Hardest class I've ever taken. 6 tests... 1 every 2 weeks, basically. She thinks this is the only class we take in college and that we have unlimited time to study for this class. She is nice if you are an A student, but if you do one thing wrong or do not go to class, YOU ARE COOKED.
I've taken harder classes, but this is by far the source of all my stress this semester. Not trying to shady here, but if they hire another BIOL 1B professor, take them while you can. Otherwise, I pray that you cook in this class
She is extremely rude, and her class is very stressful. It's been the most stressful class I've taken, and there are six tests in total, which are every two weeks. If another professor is offered, take them. There's extra credit, but it doesn't do much for your grade.
I have zero complaints about this course. I think the material was taught very well and she keeps her lectures interesting. Exams are a lot, but she offers extra credit and is very clear about what will be on them. Offers up to 2% extra credit for the whole semester, which I feel was well worth it. Overall, I feel I learned a lot and it paid off.
A test every 2 weeks with tons of information on them that barely relates to the study guide. She's incredibly rude and unprofessional, attendance isn't mandatory but then when people didn't go she would crash out. I basically taught myself the material and did pretty decent in her class she didn't help at all. Made me want to change my major.
Do NOT take this professor unless you want to stress constantly. You are far better off taking another professor if possible, if not, good luck. The only reason I did so well is because of the goat, Ashley (iykyk). Get ready to dedicate your life to this class.
She is not as bad as people make her seem. She can be intimidating and hard to approach sometimes, but she obviously has to be strict to some extent in a difficult class. Exam material always aligns with what's on the lecture study guides. Study those and watch any relevant YouTube videos that aren't oversimplified to get any background info.
Very solid professor. She can come off as mean sometimes but it's not bad natured. Lectures are information dense, and exam questions rely heavily on lecture. Five exams and a final. Studied about a week out for all of them. Go to office hours for help. Go to SI! Not an easy A but definitely not impossible.
This professor makes vague and confusing test questions that do not match up with the HUGE amount of quizzes and assignments that you have to wade through to prepare for them. Awful professor, avoid at all costs.
Dr. Reece is intimidating but fair. Her lectures are interesting but this class is so content heavy. Be prepared to make flashcards for every word on the slides and more. There's tests roughly every 3 weeks and a cumulative final. The tests are clear from the slides & there's no surprises but jeez there's a lot of slides! Lab is the same way, heavy
TAKE ANY OTHER PROFESSOR! Att. optional, but she decided to post the lecture slides half finished on the canvas - other half taught in class. Long homework assignments. Exams are beefy. You get a notecard to take to exam. Lab is useless, learn nothing & get tested on everything. Overall a very unapproachable teacher. Good Luck.
Many opportunities for extra credit, but they literally don't affect your grade unless you're teetering. "Lab" was a joke. Every "lab" was looking at preprepared microscope slides. Homework was brainless online textbook questions. Like 5 weekly quizzes, and a prelab quiz which even the lab instructors didn't like. Interesting lecture though.
First class I have ever failed. She was horrendous. Tests are extremely hard. The averages were around the 40s-50s. You get a note card on test but doesn't help bc tests are 75-100 questions with only 90 minutes. Ridiculous. I have to retake at community college bc I REFUSE to take her again and she is the only 1B professor. GOOD LUCK!!!
Evil lady. Exams are torture. Why do we have only 1 Bio1B professor
