Very clear lectures and not boring at all. Tests are fair, gotta study. I did not use the book (she provides her own slides). It is clear that she enjoys being in class and teaching econ. Learned a lot in this class and would definitely recommend her. Thumbs-up.
Great teacher. Don't leave class early. Attendance is less mandatory than usual. Pay attention when she teaches. She even put a few memes in the powerpoints. Homework is all digital. I really did learn a lot. Would totally take her class again. Highly recommended.
SMC is really lucky to have her! Great Professor! Clearly knows the subject and can effectively teach it. Cares about her students as well, always available for help. Makes Econ interesting and relatable. Homework, lecture quizzes, three exams, 1 project. Do the reading, attend class, and you'll be more than fine. Easy.
Good teacher, hard class. Tests were v information heavy. The online hw was helpful, but time consuming. She's v clear about her expectations, but majority of the grade comes from tests. If you can't pick up on complicated information quickly, you won't pass. Go to class, pay attention, take good notes, and you should be fine. She was super sweet.
She is definitely a dope teacher. DO NOT MISS CLASS, Micro economics itself is no joke and the book can only help you so much, her lectures definitely refine things for you so missing class will definitely cost you. Really sweet and cannot stress enough how much she tries to make a difficult subject a lot easier to handle for her students.
I'm currently taking this class and I can't stress enough how much I love her and her teaching style! She cares for students, is always available during office hours, she makes difficult subjects easy to understand! Love her, would definitely take it again!
Dr. Urrutia is by far one of the best professors I've had. Am not an econ major but she definitely gets you interested in the subject, she's so knowledgeable and passionate about the subject that she makes a hard subject easy. Study her slides and pay attention to her lecture, you won't even need the book. And do the EC, you never know itmightsaveu
Amazing lectures and makes econ look easy. Class is fairly easy if you pay attention..
I really enjoyed her class. You definitely need to invest time and effort into the course but it will pay off! She is very passionate and I appreciated her energy. I would take her class again.
She is a great lecturer, but a very tough grader and does not give you a easy time. You need to study a lot because this is a very hard class and her tests are long and hard. You need to know some math stuff to get this. If you learn by listening to heavy lectures, then take her. If you want an easy A, DO NOT TAKE HER!
Would not recommend this class to anyone! She's an nice person but the program she uses for homework (Knewton) is the reason I dropped the class. Homework can take anywhere from 30 mins. to 5 hours. You have to read the chapter and do the homework before she teaches the subject. Econ is a hard subject, and you need a helpful prof. to understand it.
I honestly don't know how others gave her a positive rating. Sure she's a nice person but I definitely would not recommend her class, SAVE YOUR MONEY! Econ is a hard subject so take it with someone that can make it a little more tolerable. Her homework can take anywhere from 20 mins. to 4 hours. The program she uses knewton is awful!!
I would not recommend to take this class if you are not already filled with Econ knowledge. She moves very fast and does not appreciate when students interrupt her lecture for questions. The online book system she uses for homework and studying is very difficult, and does not match up to the material being taught in class.
Professor Urrutia is an excellent professor who made economics an enjoyable class. She is an interesting lecturer, and she is generous with extra credit often using it as an incentive to get students to invest themselves in this class. Top two students with highest percentage in class are exempt from final.
She makes econ so easy. Grading is super clear with tons of extra credit opportunities. Very organized and accessible. She lets you use a cheat sheet on each test and replaces your first exam grade if you do better on the next one. I found her super relatable, she has a quirky sense of humor and is really sweet. :)
Take good notes. If you skim over the assigned chapters, it makes the homework easier to complete. Microeconomics is not an easy subject to understand and professor Urrutia makes it very clear and straightforward. If you don't understand something GO TO OFFICE HOURS! She is very helpful. There is no reason not to do well in this class.
I am definitely not an econ person but she made the subject a lot easier to tackle and the class was interesting. Her lectures are straightforward and the online HW makes things easier as well. The tests can be tough but just make sure to study well beforehand. She's very nice and approachable too.
Her lectures are amazing, online hw is very unrelated to what we learn in class. I did all hw and had an A in class through out semester, so telling you she doesnt round up an 89.82 to an A. Two midterms both so hard you get to have a cheat sheet to take them.
Dr. Urrutia is an awesome professor. Although she can be overly sarcastic for my taste. I will 100% recommend her for econ1. She is very fair. If you don't get an A in the Class you did not do your work.
Prof. Urrutia is an awesome professor for sure! She is very fair in grades. A lot of homework but it helps you understand better though. You need to work a little harder to get A especially in winter/ summer semester. She answers questions very clear, gives a lot of extra credits if you participate of course, and she's funny!
I enjoyed Dr. Uruttia's class. She clearly explains the material through her PowerPoint lectures. There was a lot of group work and some fun in-class projects. Lots of extra credit opportunities. You get Mid-term study guides, a full day of mid-term review, PLUS a front and back cheat sheet. What more can you ask for?
She's a nice lady but I did not like the class that much except that I met some cool people. What she teaches is just so different than what is on the test. I like how she gives alot of extra credit. I don't think I would have been able to have passed the class without it. I almost dropped the class but I decided that I will push through.
amazing professor! i loved her! everything that is on the exams are on the study guides she hands out, she uploads all her powerpoints as well.. lots of easy homework before lectures but nothing too hard
I took professor Urrutia during winter. A solid choice for economics! Tons of possibilities to push your grade up (extra credit, exemption from final for top 2 students, if you take at least 10% more in midterm 2 than midterm 1, she will substitute the score in midterm 1), and I learned microeconomics very well. Go to her office hours if you need
I would not take this professor. She is very inpatient with her students. She does not like to be asked to explain things. Econ is a difficult subject and she get really annoyed when you ask her to explain things in more detail. She has no compassion for those that work and travel in L.A. traffic and get mad if you come in to class 1 or 2 mins late
I loved Professor U's class. Her lectures are well structured and she really cares about feedback. She always made sure to spread positivity in class. If you do the work and check out the resources she posts you'll be fine. She also gives lots of opportunities for extra credit. Amazing Professor!
Professor Urrutia makes you work for your grade!! This is not an easy class, but she has an incredible way of making a difficult concept into a relatable one. Homework assignments are through the Knewton online program which is synced with your textbook and is pretty straightforward. Show up to class, do the homework , you'll pass! She's amazing!
Professor is absolutely amazing, she makes herself available for all questions. I was intimidated to take the class and I ended up being one of the top students in the class. Great learning environment! I would take her class 10 times over. She is both smart and funny.
One of the best professors at this school. Professor Urrutia is a fair grader, is friendly and teaches you what you need to know. There are no surprises on the tests and there are lots of easy points through homework and online quizzes. If you like economics I would strongly recommend her.
i took her 8 week class. Actually, she is a great professor and makes microeconomic looks easy because she can explain the material very clear. She also gives a lot of extra credits to help your grade, but the thing is Her EXAM IS HARD, so you have to work for it. However, A is possible. I will take her again.
Homework is a little challenging but you get full credit as long as you finish it. She uses clickers during class so attendance matters. I took her 8 week class and she gives 1 paper (3-5 pages) 2 midterms and a final. Plus she allows a cheat sheet during the exams so there is no reason as to why you shouldnt pass.
Fair, all around teacher. Aim for the highest grade in the class as you will not have to take the final.
One of the best professors at SMC. Her lectures were in-depth, informative and she has a great sense of humor. HW and clicker grades are easy points. The two essays are graded easily as well. Pay attention, take notes and study and you will get an A.
Prof. Urrutia is an amazing professor and explains economics in interesting and creative ways. I took her 8 week class and I got over 100. The homework is based on completion and the textbook online is free. There are two midterms and a few extra credit opportunities. She also gives study guides. Being top 2 in the class exempts you from the final.
Professor Amber Urrutia is so nice. She made the lecture easier to understand and very patient during office hour. Even though she required assignment and quiz every week, it is still worthy to take. sometimes, no textbook! but need knewton.
GOOD.
That teacher is amazing ! I took her for econ1, which is not an easy class but she makes us want to be interested and does a lot to make her lectures interesting. She knows perfectly. I really improved with her and I highly recommend her. I would take her again without any doubt if I had the opportunity. Great teacher, great lectures, great topic.
Professor Urrutia is one of the best professor I have taken so far. She values improvement over anything takes 2 midterms one paper and a final. If you get 10 points higher on the second Midterm she replaces your first midterm as the same grade you get for your midterm 2. It gi great lectures very easy to understand. Ask for help she is really nice
Prof. Urruttia's class is very interactive so its never boring. She does activities to help students understand concepts. Her lectures are clear and her office hours are helpful if you ever need help. Homework is easy and exams are a bit difficult but fair. As long as you attend class and study you should be fine. I thoroughly enjoyed her class.
She is a great professor, she makes Eco easier to understand and interesting. she is patient during office hours. a little bit more assignment but not hard. the midterm is super easy she will give you a mock exam to practice the question before the test. online quizzes, not really easy but it's not a big portion.
Professor Urrutia is amazing. I have never taken an econ class before, but she made everything understandable and clear. Cheatsheet allowed on midterm. Top students in the class don't have to take the final.
She is truly an amazing professor. She is easy to understand and wants her students to pass. I never write reviews for teachers but I had to write one for her because of how incredible she is. Her class is easy and the two students with the highest grades get exempt from the final exam. I suck at math yet her class was a breeze! Really kind too.
I literally dont understand why anyone would write a bad review for such a wonderful teacher. Her class was a pleasure! She gives extra credit, extremely little homework, and as long as you listen in class, you will get an EASY A. Just make sure to pay attention and you will do great. She wants all her students to excel and will make time for them.
My favorite professor at SMC! Wants all her students to do well. I was scared to take ECON since I am not good at math and have heard it is a hard class but with her, it was such an EASY class. And I understood the material thanks to her amazing teaching styles. I even got exempt from the final cause of my high grade in the class. TAKE HER!!!!!
Gives extra credit. Explains the concepts. Wants everyone to succeed. Great during office hours. Super kind and understanding. Have 2 attempts to take each of her quizzes (and yes the questions stay the same each time!). Midterm/Final are easy as long as you understand the material (Which you will). Almost no homework. What more could you want??
Take my advice and take her. Easy class to pass- trust me.
terrible professor. Tests are not multiple choice, the teacher makes unique questions and you have to write answers essay style with not enough time. there is plenty of homework to do, you will hate life. the other reviews do not accurately describe this class. Bad professor who definitely wants her students to fail her tests. whole class is a mess
Professor Urrutia's 8 weeks Econ 1 class is extremely fast-paced. We went through 2 or 3 modules each week with numerous assignments. Although she is very understanding and caring for her students as she accepts late homework. Additionally, lectures and tutoring are great resources to succeed in the class. Don't fall behind, and you'll be fine!
Let's be honest, she exactly wants you to pass! Weekly homework and discussions assign for an online class (she accepts late homework). You don't have to show up each session, for 16 weeks class period she wants us to attend at least 7 weeks, and that's all. Tests are consisting of unique questions, so work hard for those. And do the extra credits.
Professor U cares about her students a lot! I like to attend every class even though it's not mandatory. Midterms and Final are not easy fyi -not multiple choice- but she is a fair grader, and really respect your opinions. There are many extra credit opportunities throughout the semester, so make sure to use them. You'll learn a lot from her!
Loved the class. No due dates. A discussion, Hw and quiz once a week. Geared towards understanding and learning. Hw and quiz are super easy, quiz has 2 attempts, hw has infinite. 1 essay and 3 exams. You're given all sem to do essay. Exams aren't proctored and you can use notes. Prof really kind and helpful. Have to attend class for credit.
Her lectures are great and very interactive and easy to understand. The only thing is she does not take the disability center's request for no scantrons and accommodations seriously. If you have dyslexia skip her. She is also very rude at times
She is an intelligent professor for sure, she understands canvas and zoom very well. This Winter course had a lot of work but it was never unfair. It was about an hour or 2 a few days a week. Textbook was $20 and midterms were all questions from book or review. She also exempted me from the final due to all my work being finished and done well.
Took her 8-week class and it was fast paced w/ lots of homework. As someone who didn't know much about economics, I was able to understand the material well thanks to all the resources given. I recommend attending as many zoom sessions as possible & keeping up w/ deadlines. Urrutia is a very kind and caring professor that really wants you to pass!
Wonderful professor. Three assignments and one quiz per week. Somewhat heavier work load but she provides plenty of learning opportunities which are beneficial for the two midterms and accumulative final. Lecture participation is counted towards final grade. Offers extra credit.
Prof Urrutia was one of my favorite profs ever. Very caring, very clear and responsive. Her lectures are very good, and very clear. I recommend this teacher.
Prof U is the BEST Econ professor ever. Her lectures are easy to understand by applying to current events. Her handouts and powerpoint presentations are the best. She always responsive and available to help with questions. Take notes, study the presentations, and you will for sure pass exams/quizzes.
My overall grade I worked for in the class (all exams, homework, participation, midterms) totaled out to be an 86%. However, the final dropped me 12% to a 74%. I was dealing with a personal issue and instead of being understanding, she chose to not round my grade. I am now dropping from college because this grade ended me. Thank you professor!
Dr. Urrutia is an excellent Econ teacher. I feel like she really understands where students are coming from and she allowed us to turn in late work for full credit. Do all of the work, go to the optional zoom meetings and ask ?s, do all of the practice problems. You will pass AND learn Econ. Definitely ask her questions, she is there to help!
I liked this course but it's a little heavy for 8-10 weeks. Put time into discussions (get extra credit). The lectures are nice. Don't slack on this one. Prof. Urrutia was accessible online. If you do really well you won't need to do finals.
Professor Urrutia is a really sweet and caring professor, however her workload is a lot. I had to drop it because of how much work was being assigned. She is a great professor though, students just need to focus on her class extra hard.
The hardest class I have ever taken. The professor is a nice lady, but the course is too hard compared to the other classes. I won't take any of her classes in the future.
I thoroughly enjoyed taking this course. One of the greatest and most organized professors I've ever had. Tons of practice materials make taking quizzes/exams much easier. You are truly given everything you need to succeed in the class. Anyone who says otherwise did not try remotely hard enough.
She is amazing! If Econ scares you, take her! Took this class for the 8 week option and it did have a lot of work, but it is necessary to understand the material. Her lectures are amazing (focus lectures for the midterms and final) and complete reading from book to pass on the quizzes (two attempts). Tons of extra credit and one research paper.
Took the 8 week course and this class gave so much work. Literally had to call out of work one day because she assigned 10 hours of homework over one weekend. If you put in the work, you will receive an A, but that was unbearable! Top 2 students dont have to take the final, and I was one of them just because I did hw on time.
Dont If u have a full time job do not take this class it was consume you. Does not know how to write directions clearly. GIVES too much work and teaching nothing. Its all about yourself and the material. She was by far the worst teacher ive ever had. Does not go in depth with directions and is not clear. Wont EVER take her again nor reccomend her
I took an 8 week version of this class and it was extremely time consuming. There is SO much homework and tests are very hard to study for. The teacher is really nice, but the class is a very difficult one, but I felt that I learned a lot.
Prof Urrutia's courses are very well-organized. There are two midterms and a final, so be sure to keep on pace and study. There are some harder to find assignments (ie. video quizzes), so keep up with each module. The textbook is easy to read and Prof Urrutia is eager to help out during office hours.
NOT A D-... Currently a D- but I think I'll get a B or an A. Professor Urrutia helped me get through a tough Spring. I expect with full confidence to earn an A or B on the Final. As a result, I expect at least to pass the class. Most professors would have dropped me. This professor believed in me. Take that how you want.
very nice prof + easy A class. there's a lot of assignments per week BUT the assignments are easy to do. if you actually want to learn econ material, maybe take another prof. doesn't grade harshly for assignments but slightly so on midterms. nothing was too hard in this class. if you put a decent amount of effort you'll get an A.
I took the 8 week session of this course and professor Urrutia communicates the goals for the class in a clear effective manner! Definitely worth taking although it is a lot of work
I have issues with this prof's system: Hidden assignments in "Grades" section, missed deadlines due to inaccurate due date displays, & disorganized order by deadlines. You can do the work after the date but it's annoying how far your grade goes down, & I spend most of my time looking for work that's due soon. Also too much work.
She is very nice improvement is key 2 midterm and final if your Midterm 2 is an improvement of 10 points from Midterm 1 your score gets replace with the higher one. If you have an improvement on final as well she will round up 1% instead of .5. Lots discussion and hw don't be lazy. Have to get an online app for $11 a month and a book for a project.
8-week course, with easy material to learn, but A LOT of work to do. Weekly quizzes, and homework every day that can take a while to finish. Study a lot for the exams, but bcc this class fulfilled the math requirement it was DEFINATELY worth it, and a research paper. be ready to do a lot of work that isn't tough but tedious at times
Took her 6 week course, lots of work to do but you can complete it all in one day. Uses an outside website to complete her work, $10 a month. Two midterms, one cumulative final - top two students do not have to take it. Discussion boards every week but they are not hard to complete. Honestly as long as you do your hw, you'll do fine in the class.
Professor Urrutia is the most wonderful professor at SMC. You have posted video in modules if you would like to review the content later. But her courses are very interesting and you really want to attend. So much related games and illustrating lecture will make you so achieved in the Econ class. Higher recommendation!
This is my second class I have taken with Prof.Urrutia and she is the best! Lectures explain everything if you don't have a background in Econ. Homework can take a while but it is doable. A couple of papers but she is generous with grading. Midterm is not difficult! Final exam exemption for highest grade students (I got it twice so it is possible)!
I was terrified in Economics. It seemed like a class/subject for "smart people." Determined, I went in with the mind-set of "high intention, low attachment." Soon I realized it would be one of the hardest but most Interesting classes I'd ever taken. I wanted to change my major to Econ. Prof Urritia is a gem and you'll be lucky to have her!
I took her for Econ 1 and 2. It is a lot of work, but she is a fair grader. I don't feel like I learned a lot of information. She is very nice, and her lecture videos are good. It is mostly reading from the textbook, quizzes and assignments. Would recommend her to a friend. If you work hard you will do well. Top 2 don't have to take the final.
Prof U is amazing and I learned A LOT during my semester with her. Homework load is heavy, so be prepared. However, she's truly great and keeps herself open to questions, super caring and knowledgeable.
Love her! If you need to take this class, do it with her. There is a lot of hw but it's super easy and not very time consuming. She's responsive, takes late work, and actually cares about her students. I learned a lot from her and I would definitely take this class again.
Great professor that is clearly passionate about her subject and teaching. Does a great subject of incorporating real-world situations into the subject, making the class interesting. Tracks participation and attendance through iClicker. Allows replacement of 1st test score with 2nd, and so on. Definitely would take if given opportunity.
Professor Urrutia is the best professor I've had at SMC. She genuinely cares about the subject and she's great at applying economic theories to the real world. I've taken her for Econ 1 and Econ 2 and she's been great every time. Her class is well organized and if you have one of the highest grades in the class, you won't have to take the final.
I just wanted to write that I really appreciate Mrs. Urrutia because I actually feel like I learned a lot this semester. She assigns a lot of reading and homework, but especially for econ, I don't think any could be considered busy work. Also, she accepts late assignments with no penalty but I'd do my best to stay on track or you can fall behind.
Professor Urrutia is the best professor I have met at SMC. Professor Urrutia's is unbelievably kind, understanding, she cares for you to succeed, and her class is really fun. She responds to emails and concerns. As long as you do your homework in this class you will pass. I recommend her Econ 2 class it was amazing, I just joined her for Econ 1 !
She is super caring and even though she has a lot of work, there are so many opportunities to get an A. She dropped the first midterm with the second one if you got a better grade and she has open notes for the final. Overall, amazing teacher and you actually learn a lot.
Easy to get an A in this class but too much work in my opinion. Uses a website with $11 a month subscription & has assignments throughout the week. Material is taught through recorded videos and slides and is pretty easy to comprehend.
she really wants you to understand economics. her bird and her energy makes this class enjoyable. just pace yourself in test since it's timed but she drops the lowest score.
Mrs. Urrutia was an amazing professor :) I really enjoyed her lectures, and they really made me excited to learn about economics. Although there were a lot of assignments to do, I think they were all pretty straightforward and prepared me thoroughly for the exams. The two students with the highest grade in the class get exempt from the final!
Amazing Professor!! She's genuinely the sweetest, so kind and understanding! I took her in the winter which is already a short semester along with taking other classes she taught an amazing class especially for it being online. We were able to engage with other students while learning. Truly an amazing professor! Will also allow late work!
Exams were of decent difficulty, made easier with cheat sheets. Lectures are engaging and interesting, with clicker questions for participation. If you regularly do the work and make a good study guide, there is no reason not to get an A in this class.
Profesor Urrutia is a great professor her class is great and she teaches well. My only problem with her is that she leaves a LOT of HW. I am talking about 20 assignment per week. And yeah some are small and "easy" but when you're taking other classes they can all become overwhelming.
WGS/econ 8, online course, no zoom meetings (office hours optional). Professor Urrutia is one of the best professors i've had at smc. She cares for her students and genuinely just wants you to succeed. Final exam was exempted! I cant recommend her enough, TAKE HER!!!!
Best professor I've had at SMC. So much experience and knowledge and teaches so well. Provides learning resources and extra cred. Took her in person for Scholars Econ 2, takes attendance and participation through iclicker, cheat sheet and review for exams (2 midterms 1 final) and exempts the top students from final. Taking her again this sem!!!
Professor Urrutia is one of the best professors I've had at SMC. She genuinely wants students to succeed. I would definitely take her class again.
