She is really nice teacher. Very Helpful and easy. Go to her class everytime you definitely get an 'A'. She gives easy extra credits too.
Easy easy teacher. you will probably get a A if you are in class all the time. I missed at least 20 class dates and still pulled off a B!! ITS GREAT!!
Boring lectures! She doesn't take role so you can miss classes and still get a fair grade by studying on your own. Overall it's an ok class!
Shes a hella tite teacher, if u wanna an A take her, u get to go to the zoo for extra credit.
very good teacher..you got read all chapters assigned and do the work...you will get an A...a B is easy to get if you miss your chances.
Her lectures are boring. She just reads off her powerpoint slides, which we have infront of us. Seems very educated on her subject but the lectures are dry.As for the exams, not so bad. She grades on a curve, that ends up being high all the time.
Have not a clue what she is talking about in class. She has been gone more than twice. Very educated and will try to help you. Always up for a disruption.
she is just about the worse teacher I have ever had at DeAnza. She has the worse accent and talks really low. I'd advise everyone to sit up front so you could hear her and she tends to favor the people in the front.
VERY BAD ACCENT!!!!! CLASS IS PRETTY EASY, JUST GOT TO READ THE CHAPTERS THAT ARE ASSIGNED. QUIZZES AND MID TERMS ARE ALL MULTIPLE CHOICE. IF YOU TAKE HER CLASS BE PREPARED TO NOT ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND NOT SIT IN THE BACK AND YOU WILL CUT HER CLASS OFTEN
She basically passes out her notes and reads it over during class with a VERY VERY low voice, so you end up sitting in class understanding nothing. Overall, the exams are pretty easy, just make sure you read the chapters and do the study guide.
first exams was easy, second exam was alright, third exam was a killer. does grade on a curve. no point in coming to class since she just passes out notes and read over. just borrow the notes from your friend. make sure you come on group work days. C+
Excellent teacher. You need to read the book but do the extra credits! It really helps.
I didn't enjoy the class at all because she's super boring and lectures don't help. Tests aren't that difficult, just prepare for it the night before. I didn't do any of the extra credits and pulled off with an A.
This class was boring and she only let you do a 2% extra credit...Her test are ok and it's not hard but you should still study at least the night before

this teacher sucks! i could'nt stand how boring she was...takes me 20 min. to get to school....i would actually go to class in the begining of the qtr but i realized she was not worth the drive...
Difficult to understand due to language barriers and quite a boring class. I won't say that she sucks by any means, but you ARE better off reading the book instead or finding another teacher. Not the worst teacher that I've had, but not the best.
I thought she was a great teacher, really nice lady, is a bit on the quiet side so shes tough to hear from the back, but a really nice lady and a really interesting subject matter, almost no HW!! definitely recommend
This class was very, very boring. I slept at least 5 hours, and I sat in the front row. It was so bad that no one even noticed. Regardless, take this class if you want an easy A.
very interesting sbjuect, great insights on evolution and such, she is very nice and a great teacher always offering help. barley any homework and multiple choice and t/f tests.
She was great! I wasn't interested in the class at all before taking it. There was a field study project which was a great learning experience. It is a class you can brag about having.
Nice teacher, tries to make it interesting although the group work slows down the learning. Group Quizes are great because everyone got serious and the tests seemed difficult but for some reason I knew the answers. Maybe shes a good teacher just a bit quiet thats all.
not good, my worst nightmare...
not the most exiting class but tiwana GIVES U PRINTOUTS AND STUDYGUIDES FOR EVERY EXAM. you know exactly what's expected and who cares if its boring?! no homework except for "article responses" small blue book paragraphs thats it! take her! shes REALLY easy but will put u to sleep if u don't sit in the front.
Very clear and helpful, fair, lenient. Has an obvious passion for the subject. Brings in interesting videos/articles. Always willing to help, and kind. I enjoyed Tiwana.
I love her! She turned me to Anthropology =] Besides, you don't have to go to class all the time to pass. =]
I don't get what is so hard about deciphering a slight accent. Just open up your ears and pay attention. Good teaher overall, easy A (if you have good cognative skills).
good class. lots of good video and audio clips. i didn't really care about the subject before i started the class, but i really ended up learning alot and became more and more interested in the topic and her lectures. she's understanding and nice too.
I'm not bored in her class. She's right on too.
I thought it was going to be boring but its not. She has helpful powerpoint notes that we can use on exams and none of them are tricky. Just show up, take notes, study and do the exams and you're be fine. She makes the class fun and I recommend her.
Her test are so hard. Quizes are in groups. You have do so many journal entries. Group project is way to hard and not enought time to do it. I did the extra credit and I still got a B in her class. You have to watch boring videos all the time. Don't take her. You will just fall asleep in her class and get a bad grade in her class. Take another teac
Has the passion to teach but not the personality. She is too quiet and too meek to control our class. Her powerpoints are BORING. A good thing though, is that she only tests on what is presented in class, so DO NOT buy the expensive book, it is pointless.
class is not structed. not engaging unless you are interested or you are majoring in this field. overall, easy class, with a few sparatic assignments and quizes and 3 tests. incredibly hard to hear her or understand what she is saying. very boring and dull voice. takes roll first week or so then stops. attend everyday, participate = easy A
uhmmm...she is easy. its kinda hard to hear/understand her, but ull get use to it. tests are straight from the powerpoints (which are boring) but wutever its an easy A. i went to class everyday but rarely did i pay attention. stfu i still got an A
overall easy class; easy concept.... but BORING AS HELL.. holy COW.. teacher will make you SLEEP!! ****hhhhhhhhh
Amazing passion for teaching, she inspired me to become more interested in the subject. Very very smart, know's what she's talking about.
Great teacehr. She has a thick accent, but her understanding and very good teaching, help you overcome that. The best thing about this class was her notes systems. YOU NEVER HAVE TO TAKE NOTES OR EVEN READ THE BOOK. She does notes, exactly from the book, and then prints them for you. Also the tests were very easy, and she never assigned homework!
class was ok. she was always excited to be teaching you can tell she tries hard to teach stuff. but i kinda felt tired all the time. i passed with a C not that easy. you pretty much just sit there and listen so it got kinda boring. but shes a nice person.
Bad teacher! She has a thick accent, so its hard to understand her. Only thing good about this class is that she givs you notes. Test were very hard! Journal Homework takes forever and you have do it all right to get all the points. Take another teacher. If you want to get C then take her.
She is an excellent teacher. Comes very prepared to class and has great group discussions. I learnt a lot in her course. Great powerpoint handouts. It is not the easiest class but you will come out having gained a lot at the end of the course. I would definitely recommend her if your goal is to learn
Great teacher!! Lots of passion for the subject. Uses all kinds of teaching tools to make the matter being taught clear.
The best teacher at De Anza. She is so much into anthropology . Explains everything in simple form.Very approachable teacher. Quizzes and exams are easy . Just do all the readings and attend her lectures.
I liked this class. its prety easy to follow and she makes it pretty clear for you. boring at sometimes but easy for the most part. you can rwally tell she loves her topics and enjoys talking about them. She is a very smart woman! you can just tell.
ahahahah all i gotta say is shes cOOl...she likes what she teaches and does a good job of doing it...her lectures are cool...all slide show and tests are easy..tries her hardest to make the class fun and entertaining... take her..
shes a hella legit teacher. she likes what she teaches and does a good job teaching.the lectures can get dry at times, but thats ok.i still enjoyed her class.the tests are straight out of the notes she gives us.she has really good review sheets for the exams.our research project was easy too.she wants you to do good and will help u do good.take her
lectures can get boring but she makes the class pretty intresting. of course you got to show up and do the work but its not impossible. she's a fair grader. i enjoyed the class!
She has a thick accent but is easily understood. Knows what she is talking about but doesn't make lectures interesting. Don't take this class early, you will dose off then. Grades on a curve, easy multiple choice tests. Overall interesting class.
Great professor, she's extremely nice, but sometimes her lectures can get a little boring. The tests are graded on a curve, so it's easy to pass the class. If you just study and try to memorize the power point handouts ahead of time, you'll pass with an A. But her lectures are very interesting too. I didn't even read the book and got an A.
Enjoys her work, but class is a snooze. Her powerpoints and videos are boring. Group work fails to liven class, I fight with my closing eyelids every class. That said, she is simple, kind and easy. She grades her multiple choice/true false exams on a curve and wants students to do well.
group quizzes and discussions. the discussions arent hard, but the quizes are mostly based on reading material, so if no one reads, your screwed. exams are pretty hard, and doesnt curve much and asks a lot of trick questions. a lot of things on the study guide dont apply. but she doesnt have the powerpoints for you online.
she's a nice teacher, but the class is boring. the exams are easy tho, bcoz it's multiple choice, and all u have to do is memorizing her hand outs. if u wanna do well in quizes also, read the articles. well, some of them are interesting.
Pretty Easy Class but it is interesting if you pay attention. You dont have to come to class but if you do, you will be in good shape. Follow along with the student booklet. Everything is straight forward. No suprise test questions. Very nice and friendly teacher.
If you are the type of students that goes to school just to say that you go to school then please take delage because all he does is give out answers to the testes and doesnt teach. If you are a true student who goes to school to learn and in the process get an easy A then take Tiwana. Study the quizes, read and you should do fine
pretty easy class if you read the material and show up to class a little. quizzes are just groups discussions and exams are okay.
She's starting to take role now so it would be beneficial to you if you show up to the class. I got a B but if I was there everyday I probably would of gotten an A. Very nice teacher that wants everyone to succeed. A little boring on the lectures but overall good class.
the best professor ever
Come to class, pay attention, and you will pass. I showed up almost every day, didn't do much reading, and I got an A. She gives you the powerpoints of her lectures on her website, and it seems like most of the test questions came from things said in class. Group quizzes. Tests are pretty reasonable and there are extra credit opportunities.
great teacher, she is very passionate about anthropology. ton of extra credit on the tests. quizes are done is a group, but are actually harder than the tests. RECOMMENDED!!
I love her! TAKE HER. She gives you extra credit all the time, she's nice, and it's a pretty easy class. I actually had fun learning and doing activities. Totally worth it, made me want to rethink my old major :)
She is such a great teacher and her class is so easy. Basically as long as you show up and do the work you'll pass. Her lectures were always interesting and kept me from falling asleep in class. If your interested in anthropology I recommend taking her class, you wont regret it
i took her in the winter of 07 she is real cool, the class is pretty easy mostly group assignments and one group presentation the tests are ok and we have 1 final overall its a good class and you can learn alot because shes really educated in anthropology.
bad professor....very demanding
Powerpoint presentations are on her website. Gives study guides before tests. Quiz's are always group and does help prepare for test. Study the quiz, study guide and powerpts should give you a decent grade. Quiet voice, Article summaries due every week. Indian accent, but its completely understandable.
Group quizes before exam. Powerpts are online and gives you a study guide, the group quiz to study. Exams aren't too bad. Extra credit opportunities. Recommend her.
She is a sweet lady that knows her stuff (she has a PhD). It really ticked me off that half the class talked when she was. Have some respect!! I didn't pay my fees for you to waste my time. Just because she is nice doesn't mean you can walk all over her: GROW UP! The quizzes are tough but are done in a group, and they prepare you well for the exams
i don't think she is good. Group quizzes are tough and we did not get sufficient time to finish that. Those quizzes did not help your exam much. Many homeworks and they are time consuming. Btw, I don't think she respects her students.
I think she's very helpful and a very great teacher - even though I got one low C on one of my midter, I still got an A in class. She's willing to answer your questions if you have any. Quizzes help your midterms. Come to class to get points for attendance (which goes to your overall grade).
she's such a sweet lady! it took me a few weeks to understand her with the accent. she has a few group quizzes and the usual midterms. some of the reading is interesting.. it wouldn't be the end of the world to take her! make friends and the class will be much easier
Her class is a waste of time. She simply reads from her powerpoint and more than half the class aren't even listening. She always tries to keep us in after class and her lectures are dry. she tries to spark an interest and discussion among the class, but no one seems to care. Not an interesting course or prof. take someone else.
I had a hard time focusing in her class. She knows what she's teaching, but her lectures were pretty boring because she's just talking during most of the class time. Watched videos time to time. Group quizes and exams are pretty easy if you study.
nice teacher, kind of a bland class but it was interesting
Pretty easy class. She does have an accent but all the notes are online. group quiz will prepare you for the test. as long as u study your notes you sould be ok.
genuinely care about her students input and very helpful. class is easy if you pay attention! also quite humorous at times :D
she is great!! she has passion for what she does and you can feel it. She is extremely nice so people tend to talk over her and she is not very good at projecting her voice, but it is still a great class! definitely take her!
great teacher very helpful! if you take your time to talk to her she will work with you and help you a lot for the up coming tests for the class. take her! she is great!
Immerse yourself in this great class, group work and get to know people
From my honest opinion. I didn't learn much from her and she wasn't too helpful with questions most students asked. well, see for yourself but if you want to take it from someone from experience, I do not recommend. Take Mr. Delage.. he is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is a great teacher. She is genuine and sweet. A lot of group work and speaking out loud. Class is very easy to get grade, friend got an C and B on two exams and ended up getting an A as final grade. Come on!!
She is very nice and very helpful. I feel bad sometimes though because it seems like she isn't in control of the classroom; students leave early and get off topic. She is more than willing to help you out. Pay attention and you'll do good!
Interesting class and great teacher.Do take it to broaden your understanding of "the other".
Nice lady, but BORING BORING BORING. Dont take her if you actually care to listen in classes!
WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. She has no control of the class! You can hardly hear her when she gives a lecture. The only thing that was interesting about the class were the videos she showed. BUT THATS IT! You have to read the book. The book was pretty much your teacher. I LEARNED NOTHING FROM THIS CLASS!
I really liked the class especially human evolution section where we handled several fossil casts and the primate films. Her explanations are clear, and she is truly passionate about the class. Great class.
She's nice and it's pretty easy. Read the book and attend class to understand it more in depth. She can be a little boring but appreciate her and she'll give you a good grade. :)
This class is fairly easy if you read the articles and study from your notes because the midterms are all on the notes and articles. She's a really easy grader when it comes to projects/essays and offers a lot of extra credit.
One of the nicest teachers I ever had, she is the sweetest lady you'll ever meet. She made everything easy to comprehend and is genuinely passionate about this subject. It's not a very difficult class, nigh impossible to fail. I highly recommend her, she is a wonderful professor who will inspire you to see the world through different eyes
SUCH a nice teacher. just go to class, get the slides and study off of those for the tests. i reccomend doing the EC as well. she has real passion for the subject.
She's a really great teacher. Real funny too. You'll learn alot from this class. She keeps it interesting!
She doesn't like it when students come late to class. She makes her announcements at the beginning so don't be late. Her Anthro 1 class is harder than her Anthro 2 class. She talks in a very low voice so if you want to understand anything you should sit close to the front. 3 tests, 3 group quizzes, max 3% EC, & wks due every week based on articles
Not as easy as people say she is. Unclear about assignments. Creates a class schedule each quarter, but doesn't follow it. Class is kindof bland. Just reads off of powerpoints. Group work is the best part of the class because it's easy points. A lot of reading/memorizing.
She's very humorous. Really nice too. Her assignments are easy. She gives ALOT of extra credit options. She also appeals to the visual learners with her many videos.
Terrible! Has no control over class room. Micromanages behavior instead of lecturing. Reads straight off of power point. Quiet. Does not emphasize main ideas of lectures. Trick question quiz and tests. Group quizes. - Will trick you into only studying enough to get a C. Try to type up or write up summaries of each chapter for yourself and read.
Wonderful professor! take her! fun and easy class!
Her powerpoints are overloaded with information that are not useful for the tests or discussions. She also reads directly from them which makes the class very boring. She is passionate about the subject but speaks so quietly that the only way you can hear her is if you're sitting in the very front. You really just need to read the book...
This professor was very kind. She presented the class with plenty of opportunities to participate and receive credit. We did short group assignments, that were fairly easy to complete. She is really good about answering questions and if you attend her classes, the information is easier to understand. I highly recommend taking her classes.
While her passion for Anthropology is visible, I found her teaching style to be very unclear. She would basically throw things at you and say "go" without much formality or explanation. Tests are easy, 65 multiple choice, true/false, and matching. Just study a little and leave the rest to the curve. Did not read the textbook at all and got an A.
She is a GREAT teacher who is super passionate about the subject. Assignments and tests are straightforward. If you go to class and study your notes, you will do great. I really recommend taking this class with her!
I don't like the subject so for me it was boring. And I hated how she treated us like we were still in High School with group activities and such. I don't like groups because then you have a bunch of leeches who don't do anything but still get points. Other than that, it was ok, just boring. Not hard at all given you do your part.
I really liked the class and learned a great deal. Evolution, monkeys and apes were the best part of the class. She is clear and very supportive.
Took anthro 1 with her, she is such a sweet lady & truly passionate about her job. She really cares about her students and tries to get the class involved. Be sweet back to her and participate & it well get you very far! Tests are straightforward. Pay attention & you'll do well.
The class is very interesting, but the teacher uses way too many big words, for an intro class, students got a little confused, but the tests aren't that bad at all, she goes over them right away which helps studying after class
Really cool teacher, Informative, fun and easy. Makes material easy to comprehend and do well on the exam.
Nice lady, the material is fairly easy, but her teaching style is very disorganized. Class often gets loud/out of control, and her power point notes were so disorganized I couldn't manage to study from them. I didn't even bother copying them down. I read the textbook on my own and made my own notes. Easy but I wouldn't really recommend.
The class is an eye opener. Interesting topics, readings and an opportunity to do fieldwork. I highly recommend taking Cultural anthropology.
She is pretty unclear on a lot. My classmates were often confused on due dates and the specifics on certain assignments. Class would often get loud as well. she's nice but the way she delivers totally kills the topic. Group projects suck because she emphasizes it and people leech and don't do their work. overall just a messy class.
She is a really chill teacher, it is okay if you don't understand what she is lecturing about because her quizzes and test will not be as specific as her lectures are so don't be scared. Study guides and group review quizzes are vital as they prepare you for exam, questions are practically the same.
She is an awesome teacher, enthusiastic and accommodating. I learned a lot and am taking her for Anth 1 next quarter.
Superb class, great learning and fascinating stuff. Supports you to do well
I really enjoyed her class. Everything on the test will be on the studyguide she gives you. She goes through the powerpoint really fast and its hard to take notes. Overall, I had a really great experience with her. Definitely take her class!
Awesome class, interesting material. One of the best GE I have taken.
i thought that the class would be hard at first but it really wasn't. the homework was easy and interesting, you don't really need the book if you pay attention in class, and the study guides makes preparing for the tests easy. i really recommend this teacher and id take her again if i take cultural anthro next quarter
Interested and extremely knowledgable
Very nice and easy going Instructor. Because she's nice, I find that the students who are loud tend to take advantage of that which in result, she really has no control over her class which can be annoying. She gives out a study guide and there is a group presentation at the end. She is helpful, but her instructions are sometimes not clear.
She is nice, and she allows you to bring notes to test. But she is not clear, you should study a lot by yourself if you want to get an A.
GREAT PROFESSOR! She is encouraging, helpful, extremely nice, passionate, and takes the time to help students succeed! Her class was very interesting, her notes were clear, her tests were straightforward, and the homework was very interesting. Highly recommend this professor!
Honestly, this professor is really nice and everything but the class itself is super boring...I hardly went to class and still passed ( just make sure you do the assignments and study for the test). Use her slides for the test and read the articles.
1 midterm, 1 final, 1 group presentation, 3 quizzes. Fairly easy class, just remember to take in the details if u want to get a good grade. HW was often answering questions on certain articles she picked out. Very softspoken professor that genuinely wants her students to do well. Just put in the effort and u will get your A.
She is quiet & sometimes doesn't even have control of the class. It's obvious she's passionate about what she teaches, but it's hard to pay attention in her class when she can't be heard and her powerpoints are tedious. Some chapters she won't teach so must read at home. Hw isn't hard, she forgets to collect Tests: straightfoward EC: available
Hard to hear her 50% of the time. Her test questions were slightly unclear. Lecture was boring. She was really easy but she treated us like we were highschool children. Never read the book, passed with an A.
Her class was very fascinating , she made it easy to comprehend and learn. I would strongly recommend her
Great class, readings are interesting, worksheets are straightforward, group quizzes prepare you for the exam. Fair grader and thought provoking topics.
You must attend to get the best from the class. Group quizzes are useful, one group presentation on a topic of your choice. Exams are straight forward. I learned a lot about monkeys apes and human evolution. Fascinating to handle casts of early humans.
Do the reading before class and Take good notes in class. Do all the assignments on time and it's an easy A. The test are difficult, and she does group quizzes before te test to prepare you. Gives extra credit.
Lectures are a little boring but she is the sweetest woman to grace this planet, so it's worth it. Listen in class and she will present everything in her powerpoints. For tests and quizzes, memorize all the blue bolded words in the book and you're good.
She is one the easiest professors at De Anza. All three quizzes are group quizzes and allows you to use a flashcard on all three tests. Only one group presentation where almost everyone gets an A. Take this class to fulfill GE. She gives 50 points worth of easy extra credit.
Her lectures are very interesting, but sometimes she is not as clear. Try not to be late as that really distracts her and she might call you out on it. There are group quizzes, you get to use a note card on all of the exams and a group presentation towards the end of the quarter. Show up to class, pay attention and you will pass.
Miss Tiwana Loves to teach Anthropology. She will give you a good grade if you are willing to learn. It is her passion to teach the students. she gets frustrated if you goof off, or she wont pass you if you don't do any assignments. The assignments are not that difficult. Just show some interest in her class and don't sit in the back.
It's pretty annoying reading these low reviews of Tiwana. Her class is ridiculously easy. She gives GROUP quizzes. Her powerpoint lectures are available online. The book is on reservation at the library. An easy A class but can get boring so people stop showing up or trying then complain after. If you cant understand her: ASK. She does not get mad.
PhD professor with great knowledge on the anthropology subject. Lectures are fun She shows a lot of videos in class which helps. Group quiz helps you prepare for the 3 non cumulative exams. Exams are much easier than quiz if you prep. She is really nice and helpful if you ask questions. 1 Group presentation is easy A. Lots of reading tho to get A
Miss Tiwana is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches. Cell phones aren't allowed in here and she doesn't like it if you don't show up on time. She is one of the nicest ladies ever! She shows a lot of interesting videos, makes sure you understand her PowerPoints before moving on, and she always engages and wants us to too.
She is so nice! She is always willing to help her students. As long as you show her you're trying, she will help you. Very clear on what she wants you to know for exams.
Tiwana is not very clear during lecture but she uploads all her powerpoint to course studio. Textbook/weekly article readings/powerpoint slides were essential to passing. She is very nice and easy to talk to. She offers plenty of extra credit if you're willing to work for it.
The subject itself is pretty interesting and we watch many cool videos. There are group quizzes (mostly true false questions) and she lets you use a 3x5 for the exams, which are multiple choice. She gives extra credit and curves all grades in the end. She is really nice and passionate about the subject and loves when people participate.
i didnt care about school and still got an A. fun class w/ group work so you can meet cool people. good ge to take first quarter at DA since it is not too different from a high school class so you can adjust. shes nice.
Ms. Tiwana is a very sweet woman! I had no interest in anthropology coming into spring quarter, but as I am on my way out, I feel as though I will miss her interesting lectures. Clear grader, offers extra credit, few quizzes, lots of group collaboration. Overall, the best option at De Anza College if you're looking for an anthropology professor.
Took her for ANTH1 Lab only but I should've taken her for the lecture too. Thought I was going to get a B+ but she hooked it up with an A lol. She's pretty chill and reasonable. You still have to put in some work but it's easy. Felt like a high school class almost.
She was good, funny sometimes. She help those who were needing points to pass the class.
Professor Tiwana is really really caring and mother-like. Show up to class and take the notes. Tiwana tells you what to expect on exams and even allows lecture notes for the exams! Do take her!
She's SUPER SWEET. I love her to death. She has a quiet voice so sit closer to the front. If you try, she will help you to get a good grade. Shes geniunely cares about her students. Not much homework either. I got an A.
Dr. Tiwana is a good professor who allowed an open notes exam but people were abusing the system and copy pasting from powerpoints and not handwriting their own notes
Nice professor.
She gives long lectures, so students tend to space out. The group you meet with in the beginning of the quarter is most likely going to be your group for the rest of it. I could be biased, but she tends to let things slide with the students that sit in the front of the class, and picks on the students in the back. She also likes to call people out.
Very easy if you are keeping up weekly with what she assigns. Her assignments were easy and there was a lot of group work.
It can be difficult initially to adjust to her lectures, as she does speak quietly and has a difficult accent. Although, she truly cares about her class and if you want an A, you will earn it. Simple grading criteria, treat it like a freshman elective.
Group work made this class easy and bearable. Simple reading assignment and a few questions assigned for every week. Tests are a bit difficult even with a study guide and note card but bearable if you do all the reading. Definitely should do the reading. laid-back atmosphere, work with people you like, Prf Tiwana is there to help if you need her!
DO NOT take if you have classes directly after, you will be late. She CONSISTENTLY keeps lecturing after class time has ended which is RUDE. Lectures are boring, and group activities just carry the people who don't do the reading.
Great instructor, enthusiastic and really cares about you succeeding. Class is easy, study guides and quizzes helpful, articles assigned are interesting. I really enjoyed the material. Fun class
One of the worst professors I've ever had at De Anza! Refuses to admit when she is wrong and likes to shame people.
Quizes and discussions in groups and open note exams! Textbook wasn't necessary for me, but might help. Great, caring teacher that is passionate about anthropology. She was great. I would definitely take her class again and am planning to!
Group discussions + quizzes (choose wisely because you're stuck with them the whole quarter) + 3 open note exams (no final exam). Offers tons of extra credit so start early and take advantage of it! Dr. Tiwana is knowledgable, easily approachable and truly cares about her students success. Easy A if you participate and put in the effort.
Very nice professor. Come to class and take good notes from her powerpoints as tests are all open note. Quizzes are done in groups of 5 so make sure you have a good group. Theres a fieldwork group (of 3) project that takes the entire quarter which seems overwhelming at first, but its not too bad. Chill class, quite interesting, would retake!
Great teacher, very humble and polite.
All I can say is "meh". What's funny is that this lab is harder than my actual physical anthropology course. Pretty ridiculous for a 1 unit lab. You have to memorize a lot of bones and the material is pretty boring. She doesn't really teach, she has you teach yourself with your group and is just in the room. The lab is mostly table group work.
This lab was surprisingly difficult. I had Patel as my actual Anthropology instructor and her class was much easier and taught completely different content. This lab focused mainly on cell division and human anatomy. Felt more like a biology class at times than an anthropology lab. I managed to ace it because of all the extra credit she offered.
I took Anth 1, Anth 2 and the Anth 1Lab with Tiwana. The classes were informative, and inspiring. She genuinely supports student success and is passionate about the discipline.
Don't read the book, just know everything on the study guide and write notes when she explains things. If she repeats the same things over and over, it's going to be on the test. 4% extra credit. Group tests before solo tests help a lot, no cumulative final. She is also very open to feedback, she's humble and generous.
Knows her stuff. Class based on lecture, videos, and group work/projects. Documentaries watched were interesting, lectures were boring at times, and group work/projects ,depending on your group members, was bearable. Chill, soft spoken professor. Exam/quizzes were straightforward based on reading and her lecture.
Easy A for cultural anthro. You can use a page of notes front and back on tests, little to no homework and when you do have hw, its very simple and straight forward. she mostly grades on completion. Not completely boring bc its interesting and she engages the class. had one group project that we did last minute and got a 98 on. Solid choice easy A
Great professor, very understanding and kind. You get a page of notes for the exams and there are group quizzes throughout the quarter. Overall, great class and learned a lot from her. Curves grades at the end
The class is probs an easy B ore more if you do your studying and etc. But the way things are graded is by the printed hw she hands out based on what you learn that week, but as long as you do it you get credits. And also there is group quizzes, and that helps with preparing for exams, but also boost your grade. Exam easy if you used group quiz.
Professor Tiwana was amazing full of humor and super sweet. She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed she is not hard as long as you come to class you get a good grade. I definitely reccomend her.
Pro. Tiwana is passionate about her work and she cares about her students. Be ready for alot of reading. Homework is fairly easy if you make time to read. Lots of group work so be ready to be social. make sure you purchase the textbook bc youll be using it alot. Taking notes helps a ton with the exams.
she does give extra credits, but they're extremely difficult and time-consuming. Online class, so no requirement for attendance. Homework is not that hard. Easy B but you have to work for the A. She does curve the grade, but you have to keep it up with the class, do not neglect, one week of no studying can pull you back to the B or C.
She's nice. Not the greatest teacher, but her tests are pretty easy. Just learn the terms you're given in the study guide and you'll be set to get an A.
She was great. She did good lectures that were all based on what we needed to know. did group quizzes and then two independent tests with notes. Super nice and could talk to her. She did let class out late sometimes but was good about starting on time. Highly recommend her.
I enjoyed all of the three times i was in her class. She's very polite and humble and also informative in her lectures. You'll be able to use notes for your exams and do well in her class!
Dr. Tiwana's a really friendly professor. I took both her class and lab simultaneously. Attendance is not mandatory, but it's very useful to attend. The workload isn't too heavy, and most quizzes and exams are based on the readings and powerpoints. Guarantee 100% you would pass with an A.
This class is legit free, you can basically google all the questions and get a 100% on the quiz/exams. It is legit too easy, this class has zero homework other than some discussion every 2 weeks or so, but they take like 20 minutes to do. Guaranteed A if you have an average iq.
Easy class... provided you pay attention to the multitude of trick questions.
Extremely sweet and knowledgeable professor. I learned so much in the course, even though it was delivered through Zoom. Study the slides, attend the lectures for a guarantee A. There's no way you can get anything less than an A if you listen to the lectures and read her slides. 3 exams, 6 discussion assignments and 4% EC.
Prof. Tiwana is the sweetest. She truly cares about her students and is passionate about her work. There is a mini quiz every week but they are very easy, T/F questions. Exams are a bit harder but still relatively easy. Tons of extra credit opportunities. Take her if you want an easy A and learn something interesting!
The class was enjoyable with interesting information and a manageable workload. There were optional weekly lectures that went over the material for the week, weekly textbook chapters to read, and videos. We were also provided with a study guide for exams which was very helpful. As long as you read/watch all the material, you will excel in the class
You can really tell she is very passionate about this subject, which makes the lectures so much more enjoyable. Work load is very light and easy.
Very nice professors. Her class structure is incredibly simple. A weekly knowledge review(10 true or false questions). Occasional discussions, and 2 exams. She has optional weekly lectures, but if you just read the book and look at the presentations she posted on Canvas. You'll pass with flying colours.
very knowledgable about the subject, explains concepts clearly. Exams are not cumulative, which is a huge help. Offers plenty of extra credit opportunities, even accepts late work. All quizzes are T/F, assignments are easy and straightforward
weekly quizzes, 5 discussion posts, and 3 exams, no final. She is nice and caring. Highly recommend her to anyone who wanna take Anth 1.
Very kind professor. Weekly quizzes (10 points), three big quizzes each fourth week (50 points), 5 discussion posts (20 points). There's a lot of material to learn but she provides everything you need to know in the zoom lectures/ppt notes/textbook.
Ameeta is super nice, you do group work often, some reading on articles, and small presentations. I had a B, asked if I could do anything to bump it, let me do extra credit last minute, had 87%, but 88% in her class is an A, and she still gave me an A.
The main problem with her class is if you get a lower grade in even one of the discussion/ assignments there is no way for you to increase your grade. The extra credit adds 3% if you do multiple projects and visit zoos and museums which still doesn't add a lot. If possible find a better professor.
Good class for self-paced study. There are pre-recorded lectures, outside resources and videos to read/ watch, weekly quizzes, 3 tests, and a couple of discussion topics. She is a very slow grader, and quizzes have several trick questions. Average teacher, but the course is more time-consuming than what one would expect from an average GE course.
Prof. Tiwana seems very interested in her material for sure but as someone who took this class asynchronous she grades very very slow... could be a problem for some. weekly chapter check ins true or false ?'s and 3 exams, overall not to bad if you just need to get this class out of the way.
A few discussion posts or writing assignments, weekly quizzes (10 T/F questions), 3 exams. The class was fairly easy. The only annoying thing is that her quizzes would have trick questions and the assignments would take forever to do. Also, the amount of time that she would give you to take a quiz or exam was so short. (50 questions in 60 mins.)
I read the textbook every week but it was probably unnecessary. Most weeks there's only a short quiz about a chapter or 2. Sometimes there's other assignments. 2 midterms and the final. All quizzes and tests were true/false questions or multiple choice and open book.
The class is great GE, interesting content and well organized. Recorded lectures are easy to follow, Powerpoints highlight the important stuff and useful in weekly reviews. Exams are straightforward. I would highly recommend the class and the instructor
She is very sweet and the few assignments she assigns are straight-forward. Most answers are provided in power-points and the exams are as easy as the weekly knowledge reviews, just longer. Allows a lot time for the reviews and exams and provides a lot of extra credit opportunities.
cool teacher, even though I didn't interact with her at all lol. Two quizzes every week which usually are around 12 questions each with some really short written responses every now and then. Two test for whole quarter only multiple choice questions. Quizlets your best friend ;)
Weekly reading with 2 quizzes after (mostly MC, some short answer) and 2 exams. Very nice and easy professor. She grades on a curve so 89 is an A! Also, if you got a question wrong but have proof that it's right, tell her and she may give you the points.
The time limits for the Canvas exams are way too short and I felt very rushed and stressed out whenever I had to take a test/exam. The classroom is always VERY HOT and I'm not sure why. She has an accent so it was hard to understand her at times. This class was hard for me because science stuff isn't my forte but that's on me lol.
If you're looking for an easy class to fulfill a GE do not take this one because it is so much work for a GE class. Textbook readings, 2+ hour long films every week with quizzes and discussions. She grades discussions super harsh as well I was always 1-2 points off for every discussion
3% extra credit 20%discussion and assignments 20%weekly quiz(10 t or f question) 20% for 3 mid terms. Chat gpt your best friend
She is enthusiastic about teaching and anthropology. She cares about student success and is supportive. Powerpoints and lectures are clear, readings are interesting, exams straightforward and grades on a curve. An interesting GE
the class was interesting and understanding to learn about primates and many other species in the world from million years ago. Just a few disscusions and majority is quizzes/tests to review what you read about for the week.
just like two or one quiz/test each week. quizlet and chegg will come clutch for you on the tricky questions
She is caring, knowledgeable and fair. Not a difficult class. I recommend her
The class is an easy GE, informative and fascinating material. Weekly quizzes, 3 midterms and every couple of weeks there is a discussion response.
Great class with a great professor. Lectures could be somewhat boring at times, but she would spice them up with funny jokes. Exams and weekly quizzes were on Canvas over the weekend, and they were open-note and open-book (get a pdf of the textbook to CTRL + F). Honors project was fairly easy and highly interesting. Would recommend.
interesting topics, great in class discussions and exercises. Not a difficult class. Honors project was one of your choice - research and presentation
Engaging material, fair grading, and a caring professor. Quizzes, discussions, and tests are manageable. Definitely use unstuck AI and the provided resources to ace this GE.
best professor
First of all,Prof Tiwana is very caring toward her students, I don't understand all of the bad ratings for Anthro 1 because she gives plenty of time on weekly(10 q's 30min) quizzes and 3 exams(50q's 1hr). Her lectures are not that bad just participate and you should be good, her "required readings" are just stuff that she goes over on the lectures
Her class was simple and to the point. Weekly quizzes, many are 10-12 questions. Three exams. Overall, a simple and good teacher.
super easy class!
One of the kindest, most supportive professors I've had at De Anza. Her class was clear, low-stress, and actually enjoyable. She explains everything so well and genuinely wants students to succeed. Super sweet energy. I'm taking her again for lab next quarter and honestly can't wait. Highly recommend!
