She's super nice and helpful and she breaks down the material into what you really need to know to do well. Take her!
Her class was not the best! She was always late on test/quiz days and to top it off her lectures were not all that great. If you take her be prepared to do a lot of your own learning + mymathlab is a pain!
She is very smart and wants her students to succeed. She is always willing to take calls after hours from students when exams are coming up. You just have to make the effort and she will reciprocate. I wish I could take her in more math classes but she gets overlooked for assignments. She doesn't play games.
Best teacher I had by far. Knows students by their names. Very helpful. Lectures are understandable. Awesome teacher. HIGHLY recommend her. She wants you to pass. If you don't understand something she will do it 100 times till you understand. I loved the class! TAKE HER!
I would not take this teacher if you are bad at math. She didn't like to go over the basics and since i'm horrible at math I always felt lost. She is willing to work with you during office hours but I never walked out of her office feeling like i got it.
if you know math don't take this class... she will confuse you. Hard to understand and may not know what she is talking about. Makes easy look hard.
Don't take math125 with her! She is a horrible teacher. Most of the students in my class did not pass with a C or better.
Do not take her if you are not good at math. She is very nice, but half of the time students were correcting her. The explanations she gave were not the best either.
I don't know what some of these reviewers are talking about! I love this prof! She clearly simplified and explained concepts that I would have otherwise never understood. All I had to do was ask! Math doesn’t come easy for me so I had to put in some extra time, but it was worth it! Great professor. Highly recommend.
A really kind and understanding professor. She creates a great learning environment and helps students step by step when they need clarification. Professor Syed enjoys what she does, which is always a great indication of a wonderful professor.
Do not take this teacher if you have a desire of a future in math, cause she will ruin it for you. Lectures are very monotonous and fail to teach you the material at hand. I had to teach myself most of the material on hand so it was a shame I even bothered to attend the class. Strongly Advise to take another professor!!!!
Everything is well organized. Her lectures get to the point, and the notes and homework are online. I recommend this professor ONLY if you are already good at math and self-teaching. I will be repeating this course . But, just because her teaching style did not work for me, it doesn't mean that it won't work for others.
Professor Syed is a very understanding teacher who cares about her students. However, with her lectures, it's rather difficult to gain a clear grasp upon the material. You practically need to teach yourself in order to learn the material and whenever she gives lectures, she sometimes skips steps when performing math problems.
Her office hours are very helpful if you don't understand the material. This class takes a decent amount of studying, and you so have to teach yourself a lot of the material, but that's what all math is like. Practice, practice, practice. If you're not good with math, I would highly recommend a different professor. I barely got by, but SI helped.
If you are looking for an actual math class, do not take this course or teacher. My counselor told me it would be easy and it was the exact opposite. A ton of homework, the textbook is way too expensive $108 bucks, all the homework is online but the tests are impossible. She lets you out early most days but you have to learn everything yourself.
Favorite teacher of the year! She was so nice and was always encouraging students to do their best. Lectures are a little boring but very easy if you have taken Calc before. She give some extra credit on every test and quiz. Homework is harder then tests and takes a while to do but it does help and are easy points to receive. Love her!
She's a great prof. Knows her stuff and is good at giving lots of examples. 3 midterms and a final but lots oh HW. If you spend time on the online HW, you can get a 100%.
I found it difficult and confusing because the lecture examples were really different from the homework and the exam. She rarely gave extra credit. Her teaching method was structured yet confusing. I do not recommend her.
Ms. Syed is a great professor! Math is overall a difficult subject and requires a lot of understanding but Ms. Syed does her job and explains everything super well. There are two in-class midterms, one software exam, and a final. There are also bi-weekly software projects and online HW but fairly easy to do. She gives extra credit one in a while.
2 exams in class , 1 online class, and 1 final she lets you have one side of a piece of paper for a cheat sheet but that doesnt help if you dont understand most of the material. as long if you pay attention in class and ask questions or go to office hours you should be fine
I loved her!! Math is hard for me, but she made STATS easy! Visited her office hours alot and she was always willing to help me! She explains everything very well, but her tests were kinda hard for me. However, ask for help during exams and she helps! aplia hw did not help, and there will be projects! overall, she's a great teacher, but work hard!
Barely dedicates time to office hours (hers are only 50 minutes), doesn't really take homework questions in class bc it "takes up lecture time," gives easy examples & then the hw is completely different, and she can't always solve the homework herself. "I don't know, I'm sorry" is often her response. If you haven't taken calc before her, good luck.
It seems like Professor Syed does not enjoy life. She shows up with the same poor attitude every class. She makes it seem like we will not understand the info she teaches while she's teaching it. If you find a better teacher, take the other one. If you're good at business calculus you should be fine.
She was a nice person and a decent prof. Shes pretty picky when grading, but at least she offered extra credit. Youre gonna use the book a lot and dont forget about the online homework like I did lol.
She was the most nicest math professors ever. She goes through all the lectures clearly and offers a lot of extra credit. I suggest you do the extra credit!! She responded to emails fast and always pushed back a few due dates.
She's really nice and sweet. Very good teacher, always made sure all students understood material before moving on.
Ms. Syed is the best prof. Shes very kind and helpful. Lectures can be unclear and rushed at times, but she is always available in her office hours. Shes very helpful in office hours and will answer any question you have. As long as you stay on top of the course work and study passing is almost guaranteed.
She is so sweet and nice!
To get a good grade in this class you really need to take advantage of her office hours as lectures are really unclear. Unnecessary amounts of hw week, gives extra credit, you have to buy online code. Weekly write ups, 3 unit tests, project, final. Gives study guides but not for credit, really boring lectures.
I loved math, until I took this class and understood nothing. Her lectures seem easy along with the worksheets but the exams are nothing like we studied. She's also very unclear when I ask for help on a question, I asked her for help on a question on the study guide, she did not give out clear feedback and did not answer the question. 0/10
I had her Math 110. She can be unclear or unnecessarily unreasonable for some things. Very frustrating. Class was stressful for me because of this. There is online homework and 4 tests in total including the final along with a project to do. She's a sweet person but her teaching style was difficult to follow.
Most classes will just be lectures that are self explanatory and reflected on the online homework. Purchasing the online homework is a little tough on $$ but it's how she grades. Always willing to help and very lenient on grading, and has interactive activities to help us learn!
Shes a very sweet professor and super kind! Lectures were easy to understand but I found that the notes we took in class were not very helpful for the exams. If you ask a question regarding a test she can be unclear in her answers as well. You have to make your own study guide :( & basically everything she did was not like the test. It was hard
She is a tough grader. A friend of mine was so close to passing, she didn't even round off the grade. And mind you, both of us aren't even Math majors, this is a GE class. My friend who had to retake this class got a teacher that rounded off students who were super close to passing. Do not take her if you want a tough time.
she is honestly horrible. I have her right now during the covid pandemic which already makes school hard enough and it doesn't help that she has a horrible attitude and doesn't care about her students. I try to ask questions and she is sarcastic and rude. she doesn't teach well, or much at all since she makes us watch vids before classes. horrible.
she is so rude and doesn't like answering questions (aka a huge part of her job). she really doesn't teach well and a lot of times the students helped more than she did. she grades harshly and in lectures we just do examples that she doesn't even go in depth with. I literally get nervous to ask her a question bc of the attitude she gives when I do.
Her lectures are very short and self explanatory, shes very nice and usually takes the time to explain something till we get it. Definitely do the extra credits.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Tests are ridiculously hard and don't correlate to the homework at all! Homework takes hours and hours and you don't even get unlimited tries to get full credit on homework. Exams are worth 60% of your grade and homework is worth 10%. I even had a paid tutor and still failed the class! Do not take!!!!
She's very sweet and nice. She spent as much time needed on a problem before moving on. Class was about 3 hours and 50 minutes long which could be draining but was great before exams because it allowed us two hours to ask any questions before testing. Also, worst quiz grade is dropped. Overall, she was very kind and I would retake her class.
This class is hard, and its not due to the prof. 4 exams total and pretty hard. You need to put ur all into this class to get an a/b including going to office hrs & SI. Shes nice, attendance isnt worth anything but she doesnt post what she goes over so go.
This class is hard and she doesn't make it any easier. She is very sweet at the beginning, but once you start getting further into the semester, she expects you to pick up on everything immediately. Overall, 4 exams and 1 final throughout the semester with homework weekly. The HW is not bad, go to class, her recorded lectures on canvas barely help.
Do not take. Hardest class I've experienced in my 21 years of life. VERY HARD GRADER
I have taken a bit of Pre-Calc back in HS so I would say that helped me understand some topics. Studying will help you pass the quizzes and exams. DO NOT SKIP CLASS! She goes over a lot of important details for both homework and tests. I actually liked her teaching style and how she organized the semester.
Ms. Amena is a solid teacher. Going to her lectures helps you SO much and she has in class assignments in groups. Her tests are harder than the homework and in class practices because she combines all the problems together. Overall, she's a decent choice, she's increcibly nice tho!
i actually took her MATH 110 class! like any math class, there are pros and cons. the professor isn't bad, she's actually pretty sweet. you do have to put in the work of attending classes and really grasp the concept to do well on tests if you are not naturally good at math. weekly write ups, hw, vids for cred, and classwork (counted for pts)
I had Professor Syed's MATH 110 this past semester. She was never helpful and would claim to be open to questions but hardly ever responded to emails or responded after the assignment is due. Not everyone understands math and math professors of all should know that. Asking questions about material in class will get you an attitude + vague answer.
Extremely difficult even when putting in hours of work each week. With a paid tutor for months, I didn't make ANY progress. Confusing homework and even worse exams, and the expectation of learning the content immediately and moving on to the next topic directly after without time for questions or clarification. Unhelpful and impatient! (Math 110).
This was my hardest class last semester. A bunch of homework each week and sometimes its hard to understand. Test are a huge part of your grade and dont rely on the study guide because not a lot of the problems on it are on the test. I would not recommend this class.
The most difficult course and teacher combination I've ever experienced in all my years of schooling.
The worst math professor I've ever had; nitpicky grader and barely engages with the class. You'll learn how to fall asleep with your eyes open. Her lectures barely prepare you for the tests; she makes you prepare your study guide for a grade that you can't even use for the test and she makes write a reflection after seeing your grade. Don't enroll.
I wouldn't take the class again and its not the professor its just that I'm not a fan of math but overall the class was okay. She is accessible after class and she helps a lot. You just need to ask for it. The work load is also mid so not too bad. Just study more on tests LIKE STUDY EVERYTHING!! She is also very nice and chill so I would recommend.
As someone who has a tough time learning math, I was able to learn the concepts and actually do the homework without searching everything up. The way she taught was easy to understand if you put in the effort, and she's very approachable if you need help. There are homework and quizzes every week.
SHE IS THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER! she is so open to any questions and replies to emails really quickly. she also gives generous grades on tests and is so flexible! take her class!
Took her for fall 110 and she was the worst teacher I've ever had.She never responded to emails and online textbooks for homework and would lock the assignments.makes you feel dumb if you ask a question and give attitude. Her tests were super long and would test you on everything. skip the class you won't pass. Everyone in my class is retaking 110
Very unreasonable teacher doesn't give you time to make up work that you weren't even in the class to complete. Nice teacher but horrible teaching style. If I could give a 0 out of 5 I would. Never take this professor you will end up hating math and makes school stressful. I wish I had read rate my professor before taking course.
Not a very understanding teacher, doesn't help if you miss a class for a valid reason. she makes life more difficult than it already is.
I took her MATH 115 class that was taught through a flipped technique. She is a decent teacher that is easy to ask questions but gives a lot of homework, quiz every week, TID before class, and 3 exams plus final exam. Overall, the class has a lot of work but if you put in effort, you can pass the class easy. Recommend if your ready to do the work.
I personally did not like the way she graded she was very strict on little things for example i put a=35 when the answer was x=35 and i got marked incorrect for that. She doesn't really teach too much she just expects you to watch the videos at home and come to class do a few examples then leave.
First and foremost, she really is a sweet person and kind, but given the chance to drop out or choose another Professor I would in a heartbeat. From the way she lectured, stern grading style, and overall expects us to just understand values with minimal coverage. The class itself might be good for those who need it and go beyond, but save the time.
Lots of quizzes, 4 exams, plus final so stay on top of that. Homework on XYZ. I found homework to be harder than the tests & was a pain sometimes. But prof is very nice, understanding, and helpful! She pays attention to class energy and explains concepts in diff ways. My advice is ask her to go over hw problems in class. Thank you professor
I took 115, this class' grade was solely based on 3 assignments, so if you get test anxiety, you're screwed. You have to buy a textbook to access the homework (that has a minuscule impact on your overall grade). She seems annoyed if you have any questions and tells you to go to tutoring. Only take her class if you're good at math or a math major.
requires textbook and hw on webassign due every monday. flipped classroom and then does practice problems in class. she explains very clearly but she does go a little fast. there are no quizzes but tests pretty often. she offers a lot of easy extra credit and it gets applied to your next test score. attendance is not mando but rec going to class
Professor Syed is very fast-paced, I took math135 and every single time we meet we learn a new section of the chapter, not really letting the last one sink in lol. She is straightforward, not very lenient, and is stingy with extra credit. Don't take her class unless you already know some calculus and are good at it.
overall bad experience
Horrible experience.
Not very tech-savvy. She forgot to weigh the assignments and misled the class into thinking we had a higher grade on Canvas. She realized her mistake and fixed it two weeks before finals and our grades dropped 10% - 30% or even more. However, she is very kind and willing to help out if you are confused.
Save your time, pick another prof !! On our last exam before the final, she shifted the way she weighed grades and most of our grades went down drastically. With not enough time to bring it back up.
Hw due every Monday via webassign. All hw is tied to a required textbook that was $80. Kind and understanding when it comes to hw extensions. Made understanding lectured easy. The main issue was a sudden change in the grading scale which dropped a lot of student's grades 2 weeks before finals and didn't allow for enough time to bring them up.
CHOOSE ANOTHER PROFESSOR, anyone is better. She is not very tech-savvy. Lots of homework on Webassign and has a FLIPPED classroom, where at times we would do like 1-2 problems and call it a day. Some opportunities for extra credit but not as generous as other professors. I don't think this is the right professor for math 135.
Midterms were difficult and lectures were quit heavy. Attend class and ask questions when you need help. She is very open for helping her students and drops one bad exam. Overall, good professor!
run before you get trapped. this was the only teacher available and had no choice. after looking at the bad reviews it turns out to be true. I'm so cooked and be prepared to lock in for this class. good luck.
Not everybody who's good at math is good at teaching
She gives about 10 minutes for quizzes and about one hour for tests with NO CALCULATOR. The way she teaches is hard to understand. She gives 1–3 lessons a day. Her tests and quizzes are sometimes nothing we learned in class. She always made us feel rushed during tests/exams. I wouldn't retake her. Save yourself and choose another professor!
Goes way too fast during lessons. I literally learned the final lesson and then gave one day to "master" it, then took an exam. There is not enough time to soak in the lessons, and the study guide isn't really useful. She is nice and all, but a lot of people are struggling. If you're good at math, go for it, but if not, I would stay away. GOODLUCK
If you want to retake business calculus go ahead and take her because all her tests are all hard and the class moves so fast you wont have the chance to catch up on a hard lesson.
Barely surviving by earning partial credit for exams. she's nice but her lectures goes too fast and we move onto the next topics within the next class. this class felt like a lot more of independent learning. overall nice but i rather have a mean teacher that can teach than a nice one that can't teach.
She does partner quizzes and is sweet. However, by the middle of the semester, her class became so difficult that half the people in my class ended up dropping out or giving up. The class is basically all exams, and the final is worth 30% of final grade. The exams are all FRQs and takes points if work isn't shown (even if answer is correct)
not worth it
was trapped into this class, signed up for the class and the professor was not listed until it was too late to find another professor. teaches way too fast, & expects you to catch up & know what is going on. you need to teach yourself the material on your own time because she will not teach it well.
Easily one of the worst instructors I've had. Not helpful when it comes to explaining problems and tests have questions that come out of left field. Insane.
L teacher that's all I gotta say
I was honestly very worried about taking this class with Professor Syed because of the reviews. However, she was amazing! The people who give her poor ratings are people who clearly hate math or struggle with the concepts learned in the class. All her review assignments are similar to exams. She is always there to help if you need it!
pretty similar to an asynchronous class, you teach yourself all the material. homework and review questions by her have no relevance to what is actually on the test / final.
AVOID, pacing is terrible, extra credit is pathetic only 1 point..., goes through 3-5 sections a day and expects u to master it for the quiz the next day. If you suck at math avoid this class, she complicates everything that yt can teach in 10 minutes she does in 1 hr and 30 min. Tests/quizes are NOTHING like HW problems.
